The Rich Eisen Show. Rush in trouble. Strip sack! Touchdown! Scoop!
Score! Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. We just aren't playing very well.
It happens we're doing that at home. Earlier on the show, host of the Glory Days podcast, Johnny Manziel. Chargers head coach, Jim Harbaugh. Army head coach, Jeff Moncken. Coming up, actor Alexander Ludwig.
Plus, latest news and more. And now, it's Rich Eisen. And our number three of the Rich Eisen Show is on the air to coach you. It was just a coaching alley. We had Jim Harbaugh, seven and three head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. Getting set for a week twelve finisher just up the road in SoFi where they just beat the Bengals on a Sunday night. Getting set to take on his bro, John Harbaugh. Then we had the head coach of undefeated Army football, Jeff Moncken, whose cousin is the offensive coordinator for John Harbaugh. It was just one thing after another.
And then with two highly successful coaches, we just ended the hour talking about coaches getting fired. It's a very disrespectful end of that hour. Not that I'm thinking about it. That's a little funny, man.
You can't laugh at that. Very disrespectful. The irony is funny.
We did not plan that, obviously, but it just worked out that way. Yeah, you know what I mean? The disrespect is real.
The disrespect is real. I know a feller is going to be on that one, but good job. You know what? Let's just do this before we get to overreaction Monday on a Tuesday. I forgot about that.
That drop, you'd play it one more time. It's a Tyreek Hill, right? The disrespect is real. His quarterback, since coming back from that concussion that caused many people, including, I think, consensus here in the studio that he should not play football anymore. Yes.
It was scary. Didn't we say that after two old times? At least for this year. Concussed again, like, hey, let's take the year off, right?
Just chill. Whale. Whale, Jim. He is your current leader in completion percentage in the National Football League to Otunga, 73.4%. For the season or since he's been back? For the season. He's completing almost three quarters of his passes. He would be the third Dolphins quarterback to finish the season as leader of such.
The previous two led Miami to the playoffs that season. You want to guess who the two people are? Greasy? No, Chad Pennington. You are correct. All right. And you are correct.
What? How did we get that? Bob Greasy led the NFL 63% in 1978 and Chad Pennington led the NFL 67.4% in 2008.
Look at you guys. The fact that neither of us said Marino is really insanity. That wasn't his game, though. His game was just going fast and beating you up.
Or completing passes that he initially acts like he's about to spike. That was one time. Excuse me. It was still a great moment.
I'm scarred for life. How dare you? That one time will go down in history, though.
I remember watching that, too. Disrespect is real. How dare you say that to a jet like that? Get out of here. Richard, you and I just get new teams next year? Yes. We should. We should. Let me see if I do have the numbers since coming back.
I don't have them here in front of me. It's very high. It's got to be almost 78%. He has been spectacular since returning. His last game, 28 of 36, 288 pass yards, three passing touchdowns, and a passer rating just shy of 128. He's got seven tuddies and only one pick since coming back. Tyreek Hill had back-to-back games with a touchdown for the first time all year. Jalen Waddle.
Devin Achan. Hey, you know, do we have the Dolphins schedule, if you don't mind? Let's just pop that up and then we'll do overreaction Monday. Remember, they lost the Buffalo and Arizona game on last-second field goals. They could have won all four. Since two has returned, right? Yeah. Well, again, keeping in mind the Denver Broncos are your current seven seed. It's six and five, and the Dolphins are four and six, welcoming in New England this weekend. Let's pop them a win there, right?
Yeah, I would think so. Five and six. Man, Lambeau Field on Thanksgiving night is going to be a tough haul, buddy. Tough one there. Yeah, it's going to be tough.
Yeah. But then you've got the Jets, who are on interim coaches and general managers now, twice. Starting week 14 at Houston. I think they can win that football game, man. Again, Houston last night didn't just...
I don't know, C.J. Stroud has definitely regressed from last year. There's no two ways about it. And maybe he can start putting together games and stringing it together in a way that we haven't seen this year. Nico Collins is back.
I understand that. Joe Mixon's terrific. Joe Mixon is beast. No Steph Diggs. Home for San Francisco is winnable at Cleveland. They've got winnable football games. They can make the playoffs. Yeah, they got to go five and two down the stretch, right? And again, they have a better conference record than Denver has now.
Right now. And that's a tie break. Nine and eight get some help. I think they can make it. Correct.
Seven seed. It's possible right now. The Miami Dolphins. Here we go. You know, is it possible that the Miami Dolphins make the playoffs as the seven seed wind up in Buffalo for the wild card game and it's minus 20 degrees up there and it happens to them again?
What do you think? Yes, that is. Or, wait a minute, or wait a minute, the Bills actually are the one seed. They got to go to Kansas City and it's minus 20 degrees there again. What about that?
That would be a cruel fate, but yes, also possible. All right. But let's be more, let's keep glass half full. The two is back. He's healthy and he's ripping it.
Absolutely ripping it. He stays healthy. Nate in Denver, Colorado. Let's take his call. What's up Nate? Nate Dobe? Hey, how's it going?
You're on. That's how it's going. Doesn't it kind of seem like the stars are aligning really well for Aaron Rodgers to follow Brett Favre 3.0 and just go to the Vikings now? I mean, I'm just saying like McCarthy is going to need another year. Sam Darnold is playing Jets football again, right? Like it's just going to keep, he's just going to keep going in that direction.
Hopefully he doesn't break any laws after he retires, but he just stops here. Does that make sense? Nate in Denver. I'm asking you this question with full respect. Trust me. Did you visit a dispensary this morning? Well, not this morning. Nate in Denver, everybody, thank you for the call and the laugh.
I'm waiting. J.J. McCarthy is going to be the next starting quarterback, not named Sam Darnold in Minnesota. There is no chance. There's no chance. I don't even know.
Like that's the question. If Rodgers wants to play and the Jets have a new coach and general manager, that's like, you know what? We're starting clean here.
Woody, you want me coming here and you, you want me here? We're cleaning house. It is done. We're going to start from scratch and we are going to, you're going to give us the time. I'm going to, we're going to use a draft choice that, that you're, unfortunately, your 20, 24 team earned for us to use on a young quarterback. And we're going to go to work and I'm an offensive guru. And that's what I'm going to do.
And that's what you've hired me to do. Where would Rodgers wind up? If he wants to keep playing? Yeah, I don't know. I was, I saw somebody say today, like if he got released today, who would sign him? I don't know.
I don't have an answer for you. Who wants to, the Jets were in a position where our, our highly drafted rookie is become unusable around here. So who can we grab that can win with a roster that suddenly, thanks to our now bounce general manager has a championship quality to it on defense and some pieces on offense that could use the veteran hand. The Jets were a perfect spot for, for Rodgers.
I don't know who that is right now. So wild, but thank you, Nate and Denver. That was a, that was a, that was a good one. That was funny. All right, let's do an overreaction Monday on a Tuesday presented by BMW, overreaction Mondays, Monday on a Tuesday, two things are exciting about this one presented by BMW. Two of that. I did not step on the, on a Tuesday part. Like I frequently do start too soon.
I overreact go figure. Hey, what do you have over there? Chris? Happy Tuesday. Good to see you guys are very good. Hey, yeah, the bill should be number one in everyone's power rankings this week. Oh, come on, man. Is this, is this your way of, of front?
Are you telling me what to do when, when, when, when I, when I do it tomorrow, even though I'm not here? Well, they beat the number one team. I got it. The lions are the best team in football because they destroyed a high school team.
I mean, come on. They have one loss. The bills have two. The lions have won every game since week two. The bills have not. The lions are destroying everybody that's in front of them. The bills are performing very well. They're performing better than anybody thought that they could outside of that building.
They are deserving of being mentioned among some of the best in national football league, but come on, man. Oh, you have, you have, you have a set of eyes and you can't just sit here and say, Oh, who are they really beating up? They're not letting a team hang around. They're destroying them.
And then they're leaving them in a fetal position, crying for their parents. The Jaguars are trying to get their coach fired. No, they're not. No team. Well, you can't convince me otherwise. Over reaction.
Over reaction. The lions are the best team in football period. And you got to give it up to them. The bills have the advantage of the most important position. Man, there was damn near a great depression the last time the lions were this good. So what else? We get a Bill's lion Superbowl, like, come on, everyone says the NFL is rigged. Can we rig it for that? It would be terrific. It would be terrific. All right.
Let's see if that happens. Not that if the NFL was rigged. How dare you? Everyone says it is. That's what everyone says. Everyone says it is.
I'm everyone. That's what they say. Does he know if he takes you down that takes all of us down? It's all right. I'll say this.
Then we can move on. Cooper, the other day, when the time when the Chiefs lost, he comes into the room and he says, he goes, the only people who are happy when the Chiefs win are Chiefs fans, Taylor Swift fans, the referees and Roger Goodell. And I said to him, where are you getting that from?
Because you're certainly not getting that from in here. That's what he said. It was a shock they called a holding on the Chiefs on a big play. This is what he says.
The referees and Roger Goodell. I'm like, what the hell? I said to him, I'm like, you see that roof?
You better take Coop's phone away from him. You see that roof? Good. Good. Look at it. Come on, man. What else?
I don't know. I'm just teaching him that stuff. What Brockman's doing here is putting you in these positions.
Hold on. I got to text Coop another conspiracy real quick. Are you talking to him? Is that what's happening? Hey, we just talked to Jim Harbaugh. That was awesome.
The Chargers are going to the AFC Championship game. Oh boy, Christopher Brockman. Come on, man. Go ahead, pick against your coach, I dare you. I already did. I already did on game day morning. I went with the Bengals one last time to use a Hamilton phrase, one last time.
As the Bengals taught me how to say goodbye. Hey, Chris, I'm a big... I put the Chargers- They're right there, they're 10, I saw it. I'm going to give my power rankings on Wednesday's show.
Come on, Rich. They're going to be in it. I'm just saying, just as a preview, you're seeing Justin Herbert's 10 on the screen there. Hey, now. They're not...
I can't sit here and say definitively they're in the AFC Championship game. That is an overreaction. That's exactly what this segment is for. Wouldn't shock you if they made it, though, would it? No, it would not.
It would not. What did you say? Jim was going to plus him up how much?
What did you say before the year? Seven. He pluses him up seven. Right now, he's plussed him up two, and it's week 12.
All right. They're seven and three. They got seven more to go, pal. All they got to do is win five of their final seven, and he pluses them up seven. That's what he does. He goes to places and pluses you up seven.
He does. What else, Chris? I really hope that Sarah's not listening to this. I'm kind of worried about the Falcons watching the game on... I am, too. Sarah's not? The Bucs are going to win the NFC South. Oh, boy.
Kirk suddenly looked pretty old on Sunday. You know what? That's not an overreaction. I think it's possible.
I think it's entirely possible. They've got a pretty favorable schedule. Well, again, remember when the schedule came out? I keep leaving the schedule over on our podcast desk. Oh, I got it. Hold on.
I got it right here. Remember when the schedule came out? I'm like, Tampa's got a very favorable final third of their schedule.
They do. And you take a look at it now, they're at the Giants, they're at Tommy Cutlets, they're at Bryce Young, they're home for the Raiders, they're out here for the Chargers. That's a tough one. They're at the Cowboys, home for the Panthers, home for the Saints. Six and one. Again, their last four games, their last four games are either indoors or at home. So it'll be chilly, potentially, against the chilly and kind of windy for the Giants. And then Carolina's not really, you know, it could be potentially chilly. But then home for the Raiders, inside two domes, and then home. Twice. They don't have to get on a plane after flying back from Dallas.
This is entirely possible. Man, if they'd only won that game in Atlanta, it'd be a different ballgame. Ten and seven, though, that might do it. What else, Chris? This hurts me to say this because we like this guy, but I think Ravens fans have to admit it. You're a little worried about Justin Tucker costing you a playoff game. I don't think that's an overreaction right now. Still a little worried.
Yeah. John Harbaugh's taking questions about it. I mean, he's he's missing so many kicks. Larry David was thinking about not getting rid of kickers and bringing out frogs, right?
And you say that once upon a time, get rid of the kickers and you might as well have a frog come out and perform. What's going on with him? I don't know.
First time ever he's missed two kicks in the same in his same quarter. I don't know. But I think down of the list of concerns, worries, that's deep.
That slowed down the list. Like you're drilling down. You're drilling down deep.
But I don't think a Ravens fan is is just like, oh, yeah, we're we're cool. You're really a little nervous now. It's like watching Mariano blow the save of the 2001 World Series. It happens.
It happens. What else, Chris? Joe Mixon was the best free agent signing this offseason.
You were out of your mind. Saquon Barkley. Saquon Barkley. You forget about him?
Eagles were already good. No, come on. Joe Mixon. Joe Mixon. With the injuries that have gone on. Without a doubt. He is carrying them right now. He is the MVP of the Texans.
Yes, that that I that I agree with. I got both those guys on my fantasy team. I know I'm going to be facing them this week against you. Let's go. So but sprinkle a little, Ursa has gone from 0-3 to 7-4.
But I digress. He'd be 7-5. He just went to a Super Bowl. Dude, he's the MVP of the Texans. Come on. Saquon Barkley is the offensive player of the year and also should be one of the five MVP finalists. Hmm.
You got one more over there? Yeah. I want to talk about Saquon Barkley. Both Derrick Henry and Saquon are going to rush for 2,000 yards this year. That's an overreaction as well. That's an overreaction as well. They're on a pace for like 1,900. I like it.
That's not 2,000. That would be great. I know. But they're going to like have one or two big games and that's going to offset. Could you imagine? You get 4K. It's a 4K NFL season from two guys. That would be unbelievable. They're the only guys over 1,000 so far.
They're over 1,100. I got it. That's an overreaction. I would love for you to be right, but that's an overreaction. All right.
Do you think we need one more? Well, look at that. All right. I'm so surprised. I wrote it out. I wrote it out. What else?
Guys, Jay Falley was right. Oh, boy. Juan Soto's going to pull a KD and sign with the Dodgers. How stupid are you? He's meeting with them right now. Like literally right now? Like right now.
Like literally right now? He's here. Oh, is he really? He's here and he's meeting with them. He's there. Where are they? Newport Beach. I'm going to go. I'm going to go grab my boombox like John Cusack and stand outside that place. It's going to happen.
It's pretty obvious. If that happens- We all thought we were getting Ohtani. If that happens- Last year. If that happens, then break up the sport. Then break it up.
Then break it up. Just stop playing baseball. Well, this is what you guys used to do. It's not what we used to do. What do you mean?
Not what we used to do. Sign and throw money at all the best players? Who? When? When did that happen? Jason Giambi.
Jason Giambi. Okay. How'd that work out? Well, it unfortunately didn't work out, but that's- You know what the Yankees did? The idea was still the same.
The Yankees did is they got smart and they got Bernie Williams and Derek Jeter and Andy Pettit and Jorge Posada. This is after that. That's the core four. This is after that. I just mentioned that's Bernie plus the core four.
Then after that, buying players and whatever. Jacoby Ellsbury, Kevin Brown. Okay, great. Stop it. Juan Soto understands what he needs to do. And what is that? He needs to be like, what is that exactly? Get your Red Sox, get your Dodgers to get the number up and get the Yankees sweating. And then have uncle Stevie come and surpass all those by 50 million? Sweating like the Jordan Peel Jiff. And then, yeah.
Juan Soto needs to turn into Prince Akeem, go to Queens, find his queen, sign with the Mets, bring me a championship. Ladies and gentlemen, that's what we call an overreaction Monday on a Tuesday presented by BMW. And you could watch it right here on the Roku Channel, Roku Portal, one of the stars of that television show that's available for streaming very shortly as an expert on Vikings, not the Minnesota kind, Alexander Lodewig right here on The Rich Eisen Show. Good to see you, sir. Yeah, man.
Great to see you too. You bet. So when they're making a show about something that I guess deals with the human race and how you're going to handle it and something dystopian may happen, get somebody from The Hunger Games or Lone Survivor and hire that actor. Is that basically it? I think that's how I got the job. You're an expert on this sort of thing?
Who's used to this? Well, so what attracted you to this show, Alexander? Well, our mutual friend, Michael Wright. He's one of the best.
The best. Such an incredible executive who runs MGM Plus. He gave me a call and my manager, Stephanie Simon, called me and said, there's a chance that this is coming our way.
And he called me and said, you have to do this. This is a book written in 1949. It's never been more topical and it's about people. What I loved about this show is it's a totally different take on the post-apocalyptic kind of world. You know, there's no zombies. There's none of that. This is about people. Oh, damn it, man. I know. I'm sorry.
And I love a monster show as much as the next guy. But to me, this is about people and it's about the tribes that we become and what happens when you run into another tribe that doesn't want the same things that you want. What happens when you have to figure out how to use solar panels for energy? What happens when disease strikes?
What happens when you're attacked by a wild animal and you have no doctors around? I mean, these are the things that we explore in the show. And what I love about it so much is it is actually very hopeful. As you go through these six episodes, you follow Isherwood Williams, my character, from the ages of 25 all the way to the ages of 70 as he rebuilds civilization. It was the gift of gifts for an actor.
That's pretty cool, man. Yeah. So, you know, obviously hopefulness. That's what we're looking for. It kind of sounds like, what would you do if, type moments, kind of like Breaking Bad, like what happens if something happens in your life that is completely, you know, life changing?
How would you act? And it sounds like what? Like Earth is broken bad and what happens now to the human race within it, you know? And there's a scene where Ish decides whether or not to sell meth to the rest of the community, but he decides against it. Are you messing with me now? Wait a minute.
There's an RV in this? No, totally. I didn't mean like literally, like, like you suddenly become Ish and Bert? No. What I'm saying is just like, what would you do if you're placed in a certain situation and how would you react as a human race member? It's the ones that makes you go, you know, what would I do? And I think after having lived through the horrible circumstances of COVID, I think we've all asked ourselves a version of this question, you know, what would I have done if, if this got worse?
Yes. You know, and, and it's, it's amazing, you know, as an actor, you get to live many lives and this was one that I, I certainly don't take for granted. It was just a profound, brutal at times, but just the most rewarding experience. And it's on MGM Plus, Earth Abides starts streaming six episodes, MGM Plus starting the very first of December.
Everyone should check that out. How Alexander Ludwig here on The Rich Eisen Show, how old were you when you got hooked up with Hunger Games? How old were you? I was 19. 19. Yeah. All right.
Yeah. And what was that experience like for you? It was crazy. I mean, it's like, you know, my, my perception of, of young fame has changed a lot as I've, as I've gotten older. I think I've, looking back now, you know, hindsight's 20, 20. I think I got very, very lucky with my whole experience in that I had just enough success that I could start a career, which was my dream, and got to work and, and then through shows like Vikings and Heels, which is on Netflix right now, I continued to be able to grow as an actor and learned what it really took, but not too much exposure that I felt like it was going to, you know, remove me from my, my childhood or, or things like that. So I'm, I'm so lucky with the way that that happened. And I'm so grateful for that film because I really wouldn't be sitting here if it wasn't for that and, and everything I've done subsequent to this moment. I can't imagine, again, people will say, it's like, oh, it's a kid's book, you know, Hunger Games in a way, or, oh, okay.
You know, like I, I, I guess it's in the way Lord of the Flies was a kid's book too, you know what I mean? Like, so were you, but that wasn't your first gig either. Like you had already what? I had a little bit of success like earlier on. I did like The Seeker, The Dark is Rising was like my first real shot. How were you, how old were you on that? I was 13.
Okay. And that was like, you know, it was a bit of a disaster, but it was one of the greatest experiences a kid could ever have. The film didn't turn out great, but I'm so, so proud to have been a part of it. And then I, from that, I got Race to Witch Mountain with Dwayne Johnson, who I noticed you guys have a, have a picture of him there and that was an incredible experience. What were you, it wasn't like working with Dwayne Johnson? The best.
He was the best. Like, just like, you know, it was my first time working with like a huge star and I was just, you know, completely starstruck and he actually gave me, we loved playing guitar together. So he gave me his favorite guitar.
When I was like, when I turned 16 on that set, even though I looked like I was eight and I still have it. So he gave you a 16th birthday present of a guitar. Yeah. From his guitar. Yeah. What do you mean you would, you would just sit there like in between scenes?
Yeah, like in between scenes, like when I was skipping school because I hated doing school on set. I would like walk up to his trailer and we would play, play music together because I love music. And no, he's just, he's one of the good ones. You know, every once in a while you, you know, they say, don't meet your heroes. Like he's somebody I would absolutely suggest meeting. He's just a humble, very kind, incredibly hardworking human being. And I'm grateful.
I mean, I haven't spoken to him for a couple of years. I remember when I started shooting Bad Boys, he sent me a really, really great email and a workout plan and a workout plan. Yeah. They wanted me to follow that a hundred percent. Yeah. He, he, you know, they wanted me to get a lot bigger for that, for that film, especially the third one. So for that character. So I, I followed that plan to a T. Yeah. I mean, if, if, if the rock is going to send you what he's cooking, you better follow the entire recipe. Right?
Like you can't just have a cheat day when Dwayne Johnson sends you a here, this is what I would do. No. I mean, there's a lot of eating and a lot of, a lot of heavy lifting. Oh, great. I really don't miss that.
I don't want to get that big. No kidding. Oh, it was, it's just like, you just feel like sluggish and just like, it's just a lot of weight to carry around. It sounds like a great day to me though.
Maybe that's why Dwayne isn't sending me, this is what you should do for your 40 yard dash type stuff. But were you freaked out with stuff that was happening in the Hunger Games though? I mean, did some of that stuff freak you out?
I mean, no, I was excited. People, people always say like, are you, you know, if I, everyone, I'll never, like if I'm walking in an airport and somebody, you know, is a Vikings fan or a Hunger Games fan, they come up and they go, oh, you must get this all the time. You must hate this. First off, it doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, I don't, I love it.
I love it. I mean, people are usually really respectful and it means the world to me that, I mean, we make this stuff for people to see it. You know, it's like, I want everybody to watch Earth Abides, you know, and be moved by it.
So when somebody comes up to me in person and tells me how much it moved them, it, it's like, it's just, it's everything to me. Yeah. But I mean, being a 19 year old in something about hunting children for sport, that doesn't freak you out? I think I was probably a little bit of a sick kid. It didn't bother me that much. Now we're getting somewhere in this conversation. Yeah.
You know what I mean? I just, I mean, that beat the squid game to the punch, man. Yeah, it really did. I mean, I think I remember the, the author talking about how she was watching, I mean, this is a little dark, but she was basically watching clips of the, the war in Afghanistan at the time.
And then she switched the channel and it was a reality show. And she said, you know, what if we, what if we paired this together? And it, it was, I mean, it's a really crazy idea and I loved the first book. I was completely fascinated by it, but yeah, of course it's a dark, it's a dark idea, but I think that these kind of stories are also really important to warn us, I guess, or just kind of foreshadow, you know, this is where we could go if we're not careful, you know, I mean, that's obviously a very extreme reality, but yeah, I mean, I like, at the end of the day, it was just the dream of dreams.
And I just, this business is just so much persistence and so much luck and you just stay in the ring and you, and you, or you just, I always say, you just keep casting that line until you get a bite, you know, and, and that was one of my first big ones and I'm eternally grateful for it. So who is like, who, who'd you pick stuff up from there? Stanley Tucci. What do you, what do you, who else, Elizabeth Banks, Liz Banks was on that set. Yeah. Stanley was, was somebody who I, I, I got, you know, these kind of huge films.
You don't get as much time with people. I mean, Jen and I probably had 10 days together and you know, you're kind of in and out in ships in the night and a lot of scenes, but like Stanley was somebody I was watching very carefully and later, years later I ended up working with Tony Hopkins and I remembered going to him just saying, you know, take me to your trailer, show me what you do. You know, I'm fascinated by it because every actor has what works for them. You know, they have their own process and I just, I've, I'm of the mindset that we can always get better and always grow. So for me, I'm just trying to be better every single day. So that's the greatest thing about this business.
You work with your heroes and you get to learn from them. All right. You're, you're not allowed now to just move on. So you go up to Sir Anthony Hopkins. Excuse me.
Not everybody should call him Tony. Like he's a tiger on a cereal box, you know? So what do you say to you when you said, take me to your trailer and let's talk about the craft.
It was actually fascinating. His approach to, to acting and, and I, and I've absolutely taken this to my work is he, how do I say, he's, he's almost OCD about his lines. So he will write numbers beside his lines saying how, how many times he's recited that specific line.
And I mean, these numbers were like 300, like 100, 250 on his script, on his script. Okay. So his whole ideology behind that is just the more I know it, like the back of my hand, the more free I am in the moment.
And I so believe that to be true. I mean with our business, but I'd also, I equate this to, to being an athlete, to sports, to anything. It's not the game. You play freer. Yeah.
A hundred percent. It's about the preparation. And it did take me a long time to realize that as a kid, you know, you're 19 years old, you booked the hunger games.
You think you figured it out. You got so much to learn. You know, I tell kids now who have, who've had these experiences, you know, these, these lightning in a bottle moments, I'm just like, just, you know, just remember, it's about the work.
You know, it's, it's, you know, it, it's amazing when it happens, but what are the chances you get two hunger games back to back? You know, it's, it's, it's about growing as an actor and preparation frees you up completely for that. Brian Cranston wrote an amazing book called a life in parts and he talks a lot about this. He talks a lot about this in the auditioning room too. He's like, I whenever I audition, I'm not there to get a job. I'm there to give a performance.
And the more I prepared for that the more free you can be. So my two follow up questions, what's the largest number you saw on Anthony Hopkins is script. Do you remember? I, I can't, I do. Was it a four figure number? No, no. I saw like a, like, like 300.
Okay. I can't remember. It was a couple of years. It was now it's Jesus probably like a decade ago. Well, I mean, and he could have really messed with you because the other one is like, so when you walk in the trailer, does he have fava beans and a nice Chianti?
Not this time, I haven't having a friend for dinner that is, that's, that's, that's phenomenal. That's that's so cool, man. And we had James Harrison in that chair just a month ago, barely, barely fit in it, you know? And yeah, it was him. Michael Malley came with him as well. He's a runner and writer and creator and writer of, of, of heels. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway, because this is a sports show. I do know that, that Gronk was circling heels as well for, for, for a beat. When I, when I had signed on Mike told me that they had had a meeting with him and I'm not sure why it didn't end up working out.
Well, I mean, Michael Malley's as big of a Patriot fan as there is. So I'm sure he's just like, let me, let me, let me mix two things together right here. But so how many scenes did you do? A lot of scenes with James Harrison.
We had lots of scenes in heels with James. And he is, I mean, just a beast, a beast. And I mean, just such a Savage and also, and also like a sweetheart. And every time you get those moments, like you cherish them because more often than not, you know, he's the one I mean, he'll, he'll, he'll push you. He's hilarious though. Like I love James. He's just so real. Like he just does not care.
Yeah. He said, he was telling us that when he was doing interviews and things, when he was a player of that nature, um, that he was shy and he didn't want to talk. And I basically, I'm like, well, you know, I've been the, the cue of that Q and a, and you didn't look shy to me.
You looked angry and scary, like scary. And he goes, that was the shyness. And I'm like, man, I wish I'd known, you know, I wish I'd known. That's really nice for me to know too.
Like all the, all the days that he was screaming at me, he's really just a shy little baby. I love that. TJ, you want to chime in?
Yeah. So you played ace, a spade on this show. What did you learn about professional wrestling process, man? I, I was never like a huge wrestling fan growing up. Like I, if I did turn on the channel and wrestling was on like as a kid, like I'd watch like the edge and I, and I, funny enough, Adam is now a friend of mine, um, cause he shot Vikings with me, but, um, or I'd see like the rock and I'd see these people and I'd watch it for a little bit and I loved it, but I was never like hooked like some of these people. And the more you talk about doing a wrestling show, the more, I almost feel like these wrestling fans come out of the closet, like places you just wouldn't expect, like, Oh, like I'm obsessed with wrestling, you know?
And, um, um, I learned that it's, it is, there's, there's nothing fake about this. Like it, the, the idea that we were even talking like it is, is, is insane because it's, it's a full on stunt performance. Um, the winners and losers, that part might be scripted, but even then, what we explore in that show is what happens when you don't want to follow the script. You know, the hero makes the most money, you know, what happens if you're in the ring and suddenly you go, no, I'm not losing this match.
It becomes a shoot and a shoot is a fight, you know, and this is when it gets serious. And I remember talking to Dwayne about this when I was 16 as part of the reason why I did this show. He told me about experiences that he had where they didn't pull that chair hit. You know, that was, that was for real. And I, I grew up, uh, not some big professional, but I did, I competed, uh, freestyle skiing when I was a kid.
Um, so I was very comfortable in the air. Um, so one thing that was so much fun to learn was, was doing like the aerials, you know, back flipping off the top turnbuckle and doing all that stuff. Pardon? A moonsault. A moonsault. There you go.
Um, stuff like that was, was just amazing. Um, but there you go. There you go.
Another wrestling fan out of the closet. Right. No, no, no, no. No, no.
Jackson Jr. do a podcast every Wednesday. Oh, yeah. Right here. No, I'll pretend not to be offended by not being, uh, it's all new. It's all new.
It's all new. You're, I know you're people, so you might get a call. That's right. She might be somewhere in the studio for sure. For absolutely for sure. And uh, the final boss has turned heel.
Has he not? Oh yeah. The rock. Yeah.
He is. I don't want to talk heels. It's, I don't, I don't like it. Uh, I don't know how, how, how, what are you laughing about?
I've said before, I don't like watching, I don't like watching Dwayne Johnson, you know, but he was a heel at the beginning. I get it. I understand. I know, but now he's, you know, he's, he's, you know, what can I say, except you're one of them. Like Moana two is coming out.
I've got an 11 year old daughter at home. I don't need her flipping on the TV and saying, what the hell happened to Dwayne Johnson, dad? You know, I don't need that. We need that in the wrestling world because unlike mr McMahon who had all the power, right? He couldn't really do anything to you.
Now the final boss has all the power and he can actually kick your butt, which makes him a little bit more dangerous than mr McMahon. So you have his guitar, man. You've got his guitar.
You still have it, right? Obviously. Damn straight. You too. All right. Are you sure you have it out?
She was like, I have it until my kids need to start going to college. And then, I mean, I should say this, make sure Alexander doesn't sell the rocks guitar and watch earth abides and watch it in copious amounts, um, streaming on MGM plus starting December 1st. And you can watch it right here on the Roku portal. Pleasure meeting you, sir. Come back anytime. You're awesome.
Appreciate you met you at Alexander Ludwig on Instagram and, uh, and the other, uh, hellscape known as X. Okay. So, uh, to finish up this show in a moment, let's talk LinkedIn people and small business owning. I'm a small business owner.

Shopify.com slash Westwood one. Kevin Hart. Why didn't security let you onto the Philadelphia Eagles podium after they won the Super Bowl? Listen, listen, listen, listen, rich.
First of all, the haters, rich, that's the thing, the haters and they couldn't see me if they would have saw me, then they would have known who I was and I would have been right up there with the Philadelphia Eagles bringing in the good times and year because you know, it's celebrate celebration time. And I say the next time I need you all to know who I am because I'm the biggest star on the freaking planet. Like it's me and the rock. That's it. It's me and the rock, rich. That's it.
Nobody else. Incredible. I'm about to sell out the solar system. Bam.
That's what I'm gonna do. And the rock says, I'm just playing good. The rock says, you see rich, rich eyes in the rock, the Brahma bull sitting here. You're talking about Kevin Hart. Why did he get, why did he get escorted away from the Philadelphia Eagles? That's because he was drunk. Rich. He was drunk.
Rich. The rock. Doesn't drink the rock. You know what the rock does? The rock has a juice. The rock has a cleanse because every day at 2 PM I said 2 PM the rock drops a deuce. That's what he does.
Another good one for you. Uh, I'd like to ask Jason Statham, what do you think about the NFL's new targeting rules to make the game safer? Let's see here. In the game of football, you have to be really, really rough and if you're rough, that's when you get a good show. Now, if you're not rough, then it's going to be a little pansy. So I think they shouldn't do it because I don't like pansies. I hate pansies. You know, pansies. The people I beat up in my films, I beat them up all the time and you know what I do after I'm finished with them? I sit on top of their bodies and I have sex with my girl. That took a turn. Oh my gosh.
Pansies. Fun stuff. Right here on the Rich Eisen Show, sitting at the Rich Eisen Show desk on the Rich Eisen Show radio network. The desk is furnished by Grainger with supplies and solutions for every industry.
Grainger has the right product for you. Call clickrainger.com or just stop by. Jeff in Pasadena, California has been hanging since jump. What's going on, Jeff? Hey, Richard, I got a question for you and the guy having covered the league for a decade. What the hell's going on with the kicking right now? Field goals, just an extra point. I have a working hypothesis that I want to run by you guys.
These fellows are practicing 65 yarders and I think it might be messing with their natural kicking motion for a normal kick. I want to kick it around there and see what you guys think. All right. Figuratively kick it around. Thank you. Thank you, Jeff. I don't know.
I can think about this. Think when a guy goes, a baseball player goes to the home run derby. He's changing his swing just to hit these home runs and inevitably when the season starts again, they come back. A lot of these guys, it takes them a few weeks to get their swing backs. Maybe he's... Like a long driver in golf, they're not the best actual golfer. They just hit it really far.
I don't know. How about they're just inconsistent? It's funny. Early in the year, we're like, oh, narrow the goal post. Kicking's too easy. And now suddenly it's pretty brutal. Yeah.
I don't know. But you may be right about the home run derby thing. You go to the home run derby and let's say you win it. The only way that you can get back to your team and start your winning ways is to have a McDonald's character or a Hawk 2 or throw out a first pitch. Right?
Look, that will not take away the season that we had. Is that the pitch to Juan Soto? Hey, Juan, wherever you are right now, let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. Oh, man. Let me tell you something. You joined the Dodgers? I mean... What bad can you say about that? Then I got to turn my back on you.
Then I got to turn my back on you. Juan Soto joined... How do they have any money left? He wants one of these, man. How do they have any money left? They paid Shohei Ohtani $2 million this year.
That's how. But they gave all the money that they're saving on all of that to Yamamoto. He didn't come cheap. Well, Tioscar Hernandez, he just opted out. He's a free agent. Oh, great. So, you know, they got some dollars there.
Oh, okay. And like I said, they don't have to pay Ohtani a little $20.80. I imagine if he's going to go to the highest bidder, it's not going to be, pay me when you pay Ohtani. That's not going to happen. You pay me now. Right?
I got me. I have no idea. He's not going to be like Ohtani, where it's just like, I'll take $1 million now and $59 later. Can I ask you a question?
I'm here for that question. What if that happens? What if they're able to spin another deal? Is that even legal?
Prepare yourselves. Is that fair? Like, what if they get him to do that?
Remember when the Warriors got Kevin Durant? Yeah. That is what this is. No, it's not.
Well, if they get Solow, that is what this is going to be. No, no, no. It would have been the year after they got Durant if they got LeBron too. That's the difference. Okay?
Okay. Ohtani joined a team that hadn't won a championship yet, and I understand the Warriors had already won a championship. I'm talking about Durant joined. When Durant joined, I understand that analogy. This one, this one would be as if the Warriors took Steph Curry from the Celtics, right? And they took Draymond Green from the Hawks. You see where I'm going with this?
With Mookie and Freeman. They're just pulling guys. Right? Yeah.
I see what you're saying. And left. They went ahead and got the next two best NBA players in back-to-back seasons.
There is no comparison to any other sport if Juan Soto signs with the Los Angeles Dodgers after they win the World Series. Going away. Yeah.
Going away. So, so hold on a minute, just so I can compute this. Ohtani bets Freeman Soto, is that where it would go, top four? Uh, sure.
Okay. Will Smith? Maybe Freeman bats fourth. Freeman bats fourth? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Because Soto needs some protection.
Soto bets third. Yeah. Right. Uh-huh.
Like Aaron Judge wasn't enough protection for him if he goes to the Dodgers. Okay. That's not okay. As a matter of fact, that's just a phrase. That's just a phrase. I am not okay with that.
That's just a phrase. If Juan Soto goes to the Dodgers on the same day the Jets fire their general manager in a bye week, it's weeks after firing their coach, I don't know. Then I would want to bubble wrap Jalen Brunson and Kat on the spot.
Kat's balling. Well, they're not coming to the Lakers, so you don't have to worry about that. Okay.
Yeah, that's true. Dude, shut up. You're not even saying a word.
You're just smiling at me. Smuggling with your Dodger hat, right? I'm surprised he hasn't taken this Dodger belt and sat it by him over there.
Just waiting. Newport Beach, huh? That's where they are?
That was what I had read, yeah. Man, if I didn't have a flight out of LAX in three hours, I'd be going south right now. Can you imagine just Rich kicking in the door and barging into me? Boris knows me. I know Boris. I was going to say, yeah, Scott's there. Boris knows Suzy longer than he's known me. Yeah, he's there.
Suzy and I, she's coming down to do what the football, and we'll go down together and say, Scott, what are you doing? Yeah. He's trying to get his client the most money. But it's what he's doing.
Yeah, that's right. He's making the Steinbrenner's sweat, and he's making... Steve's going probably doesn't have a sweat gland in his body. He had it surgically removed. He's got it in his Velcro wallet. That wallet's not Velcro.
Is that Velcro? No, that also represents Alex Bregman. He's a free agent, too. Oh, great. Bregman's coming to New York, too.
Let's go. By the way, you know why he wears number two, Alex Bregman, right? Why he wears two? Yes. Jeter guy. Jeter guy.
Yep, yep, yep. And his dad's a Yankee fan. He's established that on this show. Alex Bregman signed one of the bats behind Brockman that's on our wall, on our studio wall.
Yeah, that's true. Yeah, one of those bats you're looking at right now, Mr. Soto. The Nick Offerman.
The Nick Offerman bat. Yeah. So, Alex Bregman is a Yankee fan? Maybe so. No Soto. Let's go get Alonso. No. Bregman. No. They need first and second baseman.
And stick to Oscar Hernandez in left field. There you go. Oh, that's great.
That sounds awesome. I'd do that. Okay. I'm already moving on. I'm already moving on. This is called coping. Back off. I'm coping.
Wow. Hey, it's Rich Eisen here. Join me and my compadre, Chris Brockman, every Monday on the Overreaction Monday podcast. Rich, Jameis has taken the browse to the playoffs. Dude, why can't they win seven, eight games to finish the year? Why not? I'm not saying it's no why not, but this is a definitive statement that's clearly an overreaction and it's perfect fodder for a show like this one.
I appreciate you coming out of the gate hot. Come react or overreact with us. Overreaction Monday, wherever you listen. It's game over. It's game over, man.
