either right punts are better than turnovers so on and so forth obviously extra points are the best field goals aren't bad right so Baker uh second in the NFL and pass yards right now dude I mean and then of course it's him against Mahomes you you've given me the uh he leads the NFL touchdown passes you've given me the box score have you looked at this thing recently the other day when Bruce Feldman was here we were talking about it I went to the box score and looked it up this thing is unbelievable well we're we just had the eight-year anniversary of this game yep October 22nd 2016 at Texas Tech Oklahoma 66 Texas Tech 59 unbelievably unbelievably the game was 13 to 10 after the first quarter that's all uh Mayfield 27 to 36 545 yards seven touchdowns no interceptions Patrick Mahomes 52 for 88 tj he attempted 88 throws in this game and he ran it 12 times for 85 yards for two touchdowns he was their leading rusher in the game down throws yeah he was 12 of 85 for two touchdowns in the game on the ground 52 of 88 in the air for 734 yards he did throw an interception what was wrong with him yeah um he accounted for seven touchdowns the uh Oklahoma had a pretty stout running game as well they had a guy who had 31 carries for 263 yards you know his name is Joe Mixon Mixon yeah he also had four catches for 114 yards that's right Joe Mixon but not the leading receiver that was touchdown that was DD Westbrook nine catches 202 yards uh no just okay straight up and actually that's the the pronunciation okay got you um yeah are you here um Mark Andrews had two catches for 24 yards in that game he's given some other names that you might recognize kiki qt remember he got 172 catches for 10 to 172 yards over 10 catches i mean good lord well who scored last you got the you got the uh the play-by-play yeah 66 59 so we'll talk about all this with the baker um they were up two touchdowns and then texas mom's a bit closer a garbage touchdown at a 66 59 game why not the do do do we know is that are these things uh written about like when did the over hit mid midway second quarter oh wait i can tell you that you can really tell me that yeah hold on i can tell you it's crazy it was 30 24 at halftime so i'd have to imagine give me a minute i'll find this total 54 at half that probably wasn't the over i'm guessing the over in this game is probably 70 really yeah unbelievable well um in the world of college football this weekend boy is there a big game in happy valley yes sir in pennsylvania this might be the game number four ohio state the ohio state visits number three penn state um you know it's crazy all my buckeye friends are like ryan day better win this one he's he's five and oh against penn state yeah james franklin has a history of not beating anyone in the top 10 well if this game goes the way it has gone in the past it'll be penn state struggling to score points ohio state also struggling to score points because penn state's defense is all over the place and it's a frustrating day for the quarterback and penn state will have a chance to win it at the end but it'll be some crazy ass fourth down call that everyone wonders what the hell was james franklin thinking like did i describe every penn state loss to ohio state it'll be like it'll be like they'll go forward on fourth down at some point one time it'll be like why did they do that instead of taking the points or another time it'll be they have to at the end and it'll be like what the hell play call was that what was that yeah or is this the time penn state finally does break through and if they do they don't face oregon this year like i said they get past this matchup it's smooth sailing you know no disrespect oh win here locks up the playoff for sure well i mean it it definitely one would think because you you look at their i've got the schedule right here for next up it's it's home for washington at purdue at minnesota which you know might get you i mean they got ucla i mean you got usc this year there was an on-side kick that i do believe the uh governor of minnesota came on this call in this show and complained about that uh got wiped out due to a phantom penalty uh and then home for maryland so yeah they would pretty much get into one would think the big 10 championship game in indianapolis or ohio state takes care of business puts james franklin on the hot seat doesn't put ryan day on it and then um ohio state plays purdue northwestern indiana at home don't sleep on that one and that's the week before they welcome the wolverines into the horseshoe and you know they want to put 60 on michigan so you know uh penn state has a much easier path to the lucas oil basket i mean that's what's on the line here can't wait for that one as oregon visits the big house that one i can wait for yeah yeah it's been a rough week okay i get it you know i mean i get it five unearned runs when you got your your uh your aces your ace on the mound dealing dealing doesn't cover first at any rate no it's fine it's just one so uh that's what's up in the world of college football finishing that penn state do we know if drew aller i mean i'm looking i guess he's a game time decision yeah i mean that's what that's what bruce was talking about yeah so um let's uh let's uh let's do this before baker mayfield joins us what's more likely everybody hit question is the rams so i would go with the cardinals the cardinals are the one at home okay right against the bears team that just played a bruising contest um and um and even if the rams do win that doesn't guarantee them that they that although if the rams win they're not in first automatically they would need the cardinals to lose correct right so if the cart one team has just a win and you're in first place okay the other one needs help so i'll go with the one that's at home and doesn't need the help ram's favorite in seattle well we'll find out what's up with puka right did pelicero make matchup agnostic doesn't matter who's on him um but i i i i'll just take bijan in this game well i'm running down matchup agnostic as a uh fantasy name as a fantasy name we've really added some good ones this week fantasy matchup agnostic he's always only had 100 yard rushing game this year but i guess that could change i think matchup agnostic once once uh opened up for tangerine dream can you look that up uh jay fella it did uh no matchup agnostic was definitely on tour with mega death okay yeah that's where you go with that one 80s hair metal all right uh guys i know it's november 1st but saw a stat that however long it's been it 30 something games right it tied the the mark of uh consecutive starts without 300 yards that were broken of trent edwards of the bills back in the day he's got 2100 yards in passing that's fourth best in the nfl right now obviously he's got another game in as opposed to everyone else you know yeah he's higher up on the yardage list than you'd think given that stat yeah because he almost got it a couple weeks ago right wasn't he at like 290 or something dude you know again i know i mentioned how you know one of the storylines of this year are our free agent running backs uh running backs can be free agent you know um big time free agents too derek henry's almost got a thousand yards rushing 946 sequans got 766 obviously you know if if if the bucks didn't have three really good running backs they might have one just aggregating in that yeah derek henry's still on a pace for 2 000 yards dude it's just and you know and we're about to be joined by baker his former college teammate joe mixon's got 609 yards he's top five joe mixon's what are the bangles thinking um didn't want to pay him 10 million dollars a year i don't get it i i will never get it because you again when you need to win a football game in the last few moments of a game you hand it to some guy who could take the time off the clock and take your will away on the front seven on the other side of the ball and but when it comes to it let's not pay that guy there's only three guys averaging over 100 yards rushing it's it's derek henry sequan and joe mixon joe mixon that's it you gotta love that as a competitor see you know now you're a veteran you're a father you'd never do that now you'd never just picks up any food stuff thrown out of the stands and just eat it you never do that right baker no i can't can't do it now you can't you mean come on you're a face of a franchise and but on that day i mean mixin had 263 yards rushing dd westbrook had 202 yards passing i mean what is it like on a day where you're you're just throwing it around 500 yards and the other guy has 700 what that is like baker unreal i think i mean pat i think he had like 800 all-purpose yards yes ncaa record i mean unreal we i mean we had to score a touchdown every single drive in the second half just to win um not not no no field goals had to score touchdowns just to win that game so unreal obviously yeah seeing firsthand what pat's able to do and obviously he carried that success over directly in the nfl and you're seeing it nowadays as well and um what did you say did you see him at midfield afterwards uh and what what did you say to him if you did after a game like that i can't remember if we talked or not but um i remember seeing cliff after the game just that was one of the crazier games i'd been a part of and um really not much else you can say about that one yeah obviously cliff being the uh the hc of texas tech at the time uh what is your relationship with mahomes do you have one baker yeah i mean yeah we're close um pat's a great guy you know i it goes back to when i was still at texas tech hosting him on his official visit um just getting to know the guy as a person and um then when i left you know watching from afar what he's able to do and um everybody knew him coming out of high school the the athlete he was you know obviously a great baseball and basketball player as well there was a there was a high level of respect there for him from the very beginning and then um you know you see these guys you see these guys that scramble around and make plays like he does and you think that it can't transfer the NFL but then i mean he does he does some unbelievable stuff he makes some crazy throws um and it's it's fun to see him uh having the success he does uh you know obviously not when we're playing each other but uh but yeah it's fun to watch him well listen i know i'm supposed to act like i know everything from this chair but i don't care screw it it's just us talking here but you you hosted him on his official visit to texas tech i did not i did not know that yeah way back in the day yeah a young baker and a young pat how old were you like 20 i was 18 18 so you're in 18 so did you what like welcoming him from the airport when you're standing on the campus like what was that no i mean you know how official visits go into college when you're trying to make sure a guy has a good time you take him to the library and you study for the test um yeah you sing kumbaya i do have to tell this story to you real quick and then we'll get to the business at hand here a little bit is rod woodson told me once you know he's mr indiana he went to purdue and he he thought he was going to go to a big tent team the one out of state school he thought maybe i'll give it a whirl was arizona state and his person who was showing him around campus you're laughing already right he said the guy picked him up from the airport and took him to the movies to see gandhi which is a three and a half hour movie that had a a an intermission and as soon as the movie was over he told his his you know sponsor there take me back to the airport and he left that happened yes that's a tough look um yeah i i i would say that the host probably played the same position as rod and didn't want him to take his job um that's about all you can explain for that one business decision i love it uh baker mayfield here in advance of taking on the chiefs on on monday night football what would you say is your state of mind right now going into this game baker you know i feel good about where we're at it's you know when you look at the tape obviously we're sitting at four and four um and we've lost some close ball games but when you when you look at it we've we haven't helped ourselves out we've shot ourselves in the foot a bunch of times um you know it starts with me turning the ball over in the red zone giving away points and you know some of these teams that we're playing are going to capitalize on it and so for me taking care of the ball but then just not not making dumb mistakes on simple fundamental plays that you know we've done a bunch so um i feel good about where we're at and this is you know i related to last year we we had a big mid-season lull um and wound up having to come out of it and the thing we did was just do all the little things right and so that's this veteran group that we have here obviously got a lot of young guys playing right now but the guys that were here understand that if we just do our job and lead by example and just pick the intensity up a little bit we'll be just fine those mistakes is what you're referring to is the kick mentality that you need to have there in tampa yeah the cliche and every drive and a kick um but it's it's true though you know especially when you're playing against a team like this um they capitalize on mistakes and that's that's what they don't do they don't beat themselves and so we have to play smart football uh for four quarters i did notice that you wore chris godwin's uh popsicle creamsicle uniform to work uh baker how is he what's your what's your not to turn you into an information man but how's he doing right now um chris is in he's in great spirits you know extremely unfortunate nothing you ever want to see happen to anybody especially one of your teammates and and for chris having a career year on a contract year as well um it just sucks but chris handles it like a pro like he does every single day he leads by example i mean just a couple days later after surgery he had his foundation event and still hosted it and still did everything he's supposed to do to give back to community so it just to me that shows what type of guy he is for the people that don't know him um we're just lucky to have him around here you know he's still still coming around being influential with our younger guys being a mentor for them um but yeah unfortunately we don't have him so so okay he see he had surgery and so he's out there it is at his charity event on crutches is that what you're saying that's what happened no i mean it's rich it's 2024 you know we have the the scooters where they can put the leg scoot around a little bit my bad okay so he's on he's on wheels yeah he's on wheels yeah he's on wheels he uh yeah and he upgraded it you know they gave them they gave him a scooter that didn't really have the uh off-road tires he upgraded uh looks like a nice ride and uh and how's evans coming along because obviously he he didn't suffer a he didn't suffer a season ender but um how's he coming along baker what do you think mike's is well in good spirits you know i think it was just frustrating for him um you know he tweaked his hamstring against the saints and kind of played a little bit you know he was kind of on a pitch counter to say and then really he pushed himself uh for that ravens game and wound up you know just straining it more but he's in good spirits as well and and mike understands that uh you know that it's a long season obviously this is his 11th year so he understands you know when we really need him uh but he's pushing himself to get back as early as possible and again you've been around some really good backs in your day uh we already established about joe mixon and your time in cleveland as well these these kids you have around you um are really talented what's your opinion of your running back room baker yeah i mean they bucky and rashad are more similar in the aspect of being able to catch out of the backfield um they i mean they're they're really athletic they catch the ball naturally like receivers do and so that they bring a different dynamic to that and not to compare sean tucker to nick chubb but the way they're built and the way they run um they're kind of tough physical runners that break tackles and one guy doesn't really bring them down often but they're sneaky fast once they get in the open field so yeah we we feel really good about all three of them and what they're able to do um and it's it's obviously exciting when you get to put multiple in it at the same time and see how defenses defend us baker may feel a couple minutes left with the bucks quarterback in advance of monday night against the chiefs listen i know this isn't your table but i i want your opinion on it nonetheless you handle it however you wish here we've got two quarterbacks drafted last year number one overall and fourth overall who have been benched by their teams they've been benched by their teams due to ineffectual play now the one in indianapolis involving anthony richardson the question is is when is he going to get some reps how's it going to get good how do you evaluate do you have an opinion on this about how long it takes how much patience should be had for young quarterbacks certainly those drafted at the very top of the draft baker yeah um for you know from my perspective being thrown in it pretty early it's quarterbacks extremely hard it's an extremely hard position to play and the game is just different mental wise when you transfer from college the nfl there's a lot more reads the verbiage i mean everybody's pretty much doing no huddle offense in college so you can't really train yourself in that aspect until you get there and get the reps and that takes time it takes time to get all that stuff down and to truly get the grasp of it to where you get your routines and so unless you're in a win right now mentality it's for quarterbacks it's it's probably easier to wait and watch and learn and sit back and see how guys operate day to day behind a good veteran and i was fortunate enough to do that for uh the off season and a few games into the year when i was in cleveland i had drew stand and tarod taylor in front of me the guys that are both vets and had played and they just helped me out once i was thrown in there they just helped me out along the way so for me it's yeah it's probably better to wait on some of these guys but if you're in a win right now mentality and you throw them in you got to have patience with it expecting these guys to be able to transfer everything they've done in college to the game immediately uh it's asking a lot and yeah you need a little bit more patience well in terms of what you can learn by watching um as opposed to by playing uh what's your philosophy on on that baker you have to have the mental makeup if you're if you're sitting as the backup and trying to learn you have to be able to soak everything up listen to every conversation that guy has whoever's starting and really pay attention to how he operates within the day operates within the details of the system um and you just gotta if you have questions you gotta ask you just have to and so you you have to be a little bit outgoing in that aspect but then also know your place as a rookie backup or a young player as a backup but when there's you know there's time to ask questions do it because um if you don't ask it might might come back to haunt you so how are you a better quarterback now than when you were maybe trying to figure stuff out and didn't have the patience that was required baker i look back at you know when i see some old clips or anything like that going back to try and find some schemes and stuff that i look at it and uh a naive quarterback just playing football and not really having a grasp of the whole system or what's going on in the defense and uh the game just moves really fast you know things now they slows down so it's to me it's night and day different um and it's fun to see that you know process through throughout the years of okay you you take some of these reps you learn from them good and bad you can you can put those in the mental bank and learn from them down the road and you can also use it to help other guys out and you know give it back send again i know this isn't your gig it's not your team but what advice would you give anthony richardson if he needs it right now baker you know i stay patient media is going to write whatever story they want right now um just i just off the headlines of did he know about it did their teammates find out from social media all that stuff it's just be the same guy for these guys in the building do your job um and support joe now that he's in there and that's that's that's the most important thing is support the team support the guy that's playing provide everything you possibly can to possibly win but then um while he's doing that he's got to stay ready because you never know this is it's a long season um it's a grind it's a physical game so you never know when your time's going to be called and again i know your your baby girl was born in april is it still too soon to have a first halloween did you do it what do you what happened what do you what do you got bigger my lovely wife emily um decided to dress our daughter up as snow white and therefore emily myself and our dog were uh the dwarves so um which one were you which one were you sleepy i was dopey and i don't i i guess our dog took the rest so i i don't know it's i just cool man wow and all and uh and toilets did i mention toilets um you know there's one you didn't mention here uh kawaii he had he was a factor last night it was a factor so what are you looking at right so on the board they had this game they played with candy corn which i had i thought of us instantaneously so because we talked candy corn yesterday so all the players they did a game where they reached one hand into the bowl and pulled out as many candy corn as they could and then they counted them and of course the claw kawaii he had the most with 154 pieces of candy corn wow at least he participated in that which i was happy with yeah he's active huh i mean look at the size of the mix on this dude well so 154 pieces of candy corn just in one scoop wow by the way that's not it's not very uh public health uh safe when you're taking somebody's hand and so nobody ate the rest of the candy corn i can't confirm or deny what happened to these candy corn i had nothing to do i guess it's a good thing when bunyama wasn't there oh man dude i can't tell you it would have been like 275 by the way when you walk into the facility dressed like when bunyama was last night i saw this this is
