Mike Hill? Back on The Rich Eyes' show, where I belong, on a Friday, a fun Friday, as always, in the house once again, rocking the next three hours for The Great Rich Eyes and happy to be here once again. Hey, man, the energy's got to be hype because it's Friday. We got jobs and we got things to do. We got things to do. What's up, fellas? My boys, in fact, TJ, what's happening over there, brother?

Oh, Mike Hill, if I was any better, they'd have to clone me and make me a twin right now. I see, man. I see you doing big things in the podcast world, man. You got your own wrestling podcast and I love that, man.

Just got it kicked off, you know, the CM Punks or Strickland coming up, you know, just trying to make some stuff happen, you know. That's what's up. Yeah, but it's about the Mets right now, TJ. Come on, man.

And then I was going to get to that. Is that one of his 12 teams? There's only one in baseball. There's only one in football. Hold on.

One in four. Do we cut it down since I was there? College is a lot of college teams. So, OK, so you got one baseball team. That's the Mets.

That's it. And you were with the Mets back in May, too. You were with the Mets back in 1983. Oh, OK. All right.

So hold back with Darryl Strawberry back in the day. Way, way back then. Yeah. Well, good. Good.

And all the guys. I mean, I think I can't. I just remember that that was kind of the year that I can kind of remember a little bit of baseball.

Eighty six Mets man won the World Series back then. OK, all right. I see that we're at the crib. We're chilling.

You know, I'm saying just doing some light work, trying to keep shut out the grimace over there, man, doing things as well. I see Jason Feller over there. Hey, what's up, Mike? The millionaire. I got his money.

That was last week. Oh, yeah. You must got a girlfriend now. She's taking your money. A friend wouldn't get a wife.

That's where his money's going. I know about my Jason. We can talk after this. We could have consulted Mike.

We could have consulted him. Oh, he's still married. Your first one. Yeah, your first. Three months ago.

Oh, it's new. OK, so you're still in love right now. OK, that's all good, man. Jason Feller, huge, greatest fan, got quarterback issues over there. But speaking of quarterbacks, Dre, let's go, right.

OK, right. Chris, what's up, baby? I'm just living, baby.

Just living. Are you excited, man, for your New England Patriots? This is the first time I think Pats fans have been excited in like five years. Really? Yeah. Like I said the other day, five years we had we had the one cam game week two in Seattle where he threw for like three hundred and had a bunch of rushing yards.

We lost in the goal line. Remember that? Then he got covid and then that season was kind of over. Right. Haven't been excited since then. Man, it's been five years since the Patriots were relevant. Yeah. Tom Tom Brady has been gone that long. Yeah.

Twenty nineteen was his last year. Wow. Such a shame. Tom Brady's my teammate. Now, I love Tom Brady, man. Love Tom Brady. Hey, Drake Mays is going to be good.

I don't know about star. Maybe not this week. He may not look good on Sunday.

I don't know why you want to mess with the man. Self-esteem is going to be good. He's going to be good. I mean, he can at least run behind that horrible offensive line. He can run.

He's got a big arm. I think Jalen Polk season is about to happen. So just get ready. Buckle up.

Jalen Polk. OK, I don't watch them making things happen. Let's make you see what happens. I might kill me for the next three hours.

You have a lot of fun. We're going to be talking about. Hey, I got to talk about my Yankees. I got to talk a little bit about my Giants because I'm a New York fan through and through. I might even talk about the Liberty because as a New York basketball fan, I'm never going to win a championship.

It seems 18 point lead at WNBA. We'll definitely talk about week six in the NFL. We got a great show in store for you. Jason Stark coming in, talking about baseball. Mike Goldie Jr. talking college football. Rich Eisen is going to make an appearance on his show because this is the show.

He's over in England covering the Chicago Bears, calling the Chicago Bears in the Jacksonville Jaguars game. And Mike Jones talking about the NFL as we get into week six. But speaking of week six, kicked off last night, San Francisco 49ers got a win last night against the Seattle Seahawks. They needed that win because they were already 0 and 2 in the vision games. They had a 20 point lead in this game. And when they came back, when Seattle came back, did y'all start thinking same thing? I was thinking they about to blow another league. Kind of San Francisco's done that this year. They haven't been able to hold on.

So people forget, man. And two of their three losses, they had double digit leads going into the fourth quarter. And I'm like, uh oh, here we go. In Seattle, Geno starting to bring these boys back, but they got the job done 36 to 24 over the Seattle Seahawks. And Mike Shanahan even talked about, man, the importance of winning this division game. You know that we're sick about those two losses that we had.

And we know, you know, I talk about some hard losses are harder than others. And when you feel like you had those one, especially division games, that's made us sick about it. And, you know, we've gone on a stretch here the last two years where we won a lot of games in a row. And a lot of the fourth quarters and some of those winstrings these last two years haven't been that tight. Guys have been able to relax a little bit on stuff. And we've been talking about how these two losses are a reminder of how the NFL works. And I think we got a little spoiled in that way of just human nature of sometimes feeling too relaxed. And you can never feel too relaxed. I thought we played real well in the second half, but that doesn't mean it's easy to win.

And it's some kind of, I mean, that's how it works. We played well, they played well. They came back and made some plays, which made it tighter. And I was glad that our guys could fight through that. Realize that games are really never over where you can just sit and chill in the fourth quarter.

You got to go beginning to the end. And we got that experience today. Shout out to Kyle Shanahan. I'm showing my age a little bit. I'm pretty sure Mike was talking about it too.

Cause this is his daddy, but getting into it. But Kyle Shanahan talking about blowing those leads in the fourth quarter, man. But this was an important game for the San Francisco 49ers, obviously coming off the Super Bowl loss last year.

Every team seems to have that Super Bowl hangover when they lose the Super Bowl. And that's no exception for the San Francisco 49ers this year, having some issues, especially with injuries early on. Deebo missed some time. Obviously they had the whole Brandon Iyuk situation early on in the season. Brock Purdy has been consistently good all season long, obviously.

Deebo missed the game once again. But once again, the big issue for this football team, defensive injuries, which they still have a lot of defensive injuries right now. And Christian McCaffrey. Christian McCaffrey is the key of this football team, bro. I'm gonna tell you, y'all remember when they got Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers a couple years ago? For a song?

So they said for a song. San Francisco was a good team at that time, but he comes over and he puts them over the top. He makes them better. Christian McCaffrey on this football team makes the San Francisco 49ers look almost unbeatable, especially in the red zone. He is the ultimate weapon on the football field. I know he finished, what, second in the MVP race last year to Lamar Jackson or whatever? He should have won.

Hold on a second. We can debate that all he wants. And Lamar Jackson is just as exceptional. But yeah, Christian McCaffrey, when it comes to the importance, like you said, of his football team, despite all the weapons that they have around them with the George Kittles of the world, with the Deebo Samuels, even Brock Purdy still continue to play well. They got one of the best, if not the best left tackle in all the football, Brandon Iyuk out there or whatnot. Christian McCaffrey is what makes this football team run, in the red zone especially.

He is that weapon. When he's on the football field, the Niners are just a different football team. And with McCaffrey not being there, I'm wondering if the window is closed, at least for this year.

They're three and three. Yeah, the good thing is they've lost two divisional games. They've lost three games this year. The good thing for them is with that win last night, they are now tied in a division with the Seattle Seahawks. And actually, they own the tiebreaker because they beat the Seahawks last night.

And the good thing for the Niners is in those three losses, they've lost those three games by a total of 10 points. So they've been close, but you can't tell me that if Christian McCaffrey isn't there, that they're winning those games. Is Christian McCaffrey good to make up those 10 points? Absolutely.

Absolutely. Now, is he going to be able to help some of the things that they might have issues on their defensive side, blowing leads late? No, he's not going to be there. But with Christian McCaffrey there, they're going to be able to push the lead so far out that it doesn't matter what the defense does, right? So they got Kansas City next. And what I'm going to tell you right now is that's a critical game for them. We're going to actually see what the San Francisco 49ers have in store for them to see. You look at that schedule there.

Kansas City, Denny Dallas, Tampa. They got some big pivotal games coming up at Tampa, Seattle once again, Green Bay. That is a tough schedule. Tough schedule.

That is a really tough schedule. You can throw the Bears in there too. The Bears start to go to 4-2 this week. Suddenly the Bears look like a playoff team. Their next six games are potentially playoff teams? Kansas City, Dallas critical. Dallas is in desperation mode. Then they got to buy Tampa at Tampa.

That's always tough as well. I wonder if that's going to be an early game, you know, West Coast team going to Tampa. I don't know if that's going to be a one o'clock start, one Eastern time start. Seattle's always tough divisional game. Green Bay, if they stop turning the football over, Jordan will stop turning the football over. Always hard to win at Lambeau Field. At Buffalo, Chicago like you mentioned. Rams once again a divisional game. Miami, depending on what happens with Tua or whatnot, they're not the same. Really tough schedule.

Detroit, oh my gosh. Really tough schedule. Anyway, the Christian McCaffrey, we've been talking about him.

Albert Bier said on the pregame show last night, week 10, looking at post-buy week. Not going to have him for another three plus weeks. Let me tell you something right now, after looking at their schedule, if Christian McCaffrey doesn't come back this season and when he starts going to see specialists overseas for your Achilles and your legs and your ankles and whatnot, when that starts to happen, you know, the San Francisco 49ers are going to make, they're not going to make the playoffs this year. They're not going to make the playoffs this year. I mean, and look, I'm not going to say the window is completely closed for them to come back, depending on what happens with Christian McCaffrey, but he is that much of a difference maker on this football team.

Now they got tremendous talent. When is Brandon IU going to step up to deserving the contract that he wanted, that he got? You know, when are we going to start seeing that?

We haven't seen it yet. Fantasy football players bad at Brandon IU right now. You know what I'm saying? You got your money. Now it's time for you to step up. Now it's time for you to show up on Sundays when your team needs it. And you're not doing that right now. Brock Purdy's plan consistent, but once again, man, this thing goes around Christian McCaffrey once again and looking at their schedule.

Tough. If Christian McCaffrey doesn't come back and he's not coming back, if he doesn't come back healthy and effective, the San Francisco 49ers as great as they are not going to make the playoffs this year. They're definitely not going to the Super Bowl this year. They're not going to the NFC championship game this year. The Detroit Lions are the best team in the NFC and the Minnesota Vikings are no fluke.

They're five and 0. People looking at the Minnesota Vikings, you look at what's going on there with their quarterback situation with Sam Darnell and thinking, okay, well, Sam Darnell's in the right offense. Kevin O'Connell's doing a great job with that team. I mean, he got Kirk Cousins couple of years before Kirk Cousins got hurt last year. And y'all remember when I came on this show early in the season, the NFL, what did I say about Kirk Cousins before he got hurt? I said he was going to be an MVP candidate.

Yeah, you were on it. Because he was in that, he was in Kevin O'Connell's system. And I thought he had something to prove because of something what happened the year before with the NFL honors.

And I thought he was just going to be so focused and laser then. And he was before he hurt his Achilles. So Sam Darnell doing what he does in that offense with the greatest wide receiver in any NFL right now, that is no fluke. So Minnesota is the second best team right now, I believe in the NFL. I mean, in the NFC behind the Detroit Lions, that pivotal in that, that very physical Detroit Lions defense that they have in that offense that they have that running game. So the San Francisco 49ers look, even if they do slip into the playoffs, because maybe, maybe they win the division because Seattle started to come back down to earth, Arizona. I still don't think they're that team yet. The Rams up and down, maybe maybe they slip in because they got so much talent, but looking at that schedule, I don't see how they do it.

I don't see how they do it. Yeah. And you look at Jordan Mason, who's done an awesome job filling in for Christian McCaffrey. He goes down last night, shoulder injury, Kyle Shannon, Adam Schefter reporting, you know, AC joint, not going to expect it to be serious further tests coming up this week, but he had a chance to go back in the game, lasted one play and came out.

And came back out. So that's, you know, that could be pain tolerance is going to get shot up. So now you're looking at a team that's already been banged up all year. Brock Purdy is absolutely balling, but you're now on your third and fourth running back. I mean, we saw, I can't pronounce his name, but we saw him go for a hundred yards last night, the backup. So, you know, it seems like maybe they're okay, but really need Christian McCaffrey back out there. You're talking about Garendo.

Yeah. Christian McCaffrey, regardless of what they have around Brock Purdy, regardless of what they put on the football field. Once again, Christian McCaffrey is that different. We talk about MVP candidates. What makes you an MVP candidate? You're that valuable to your team.

And for the San Francisco 49ers, Christian McCaffrey is that valuable to his team. Once again, go back a couple of years ago before he gets there. They're still a good team, but when he gets there, once again, do they look almost, I think they, they went on a run. If I, if I remember a couple of years ago, when he got there, when he, when they made the trade, I think they went on a winning streak. They went on a bit of a run.

They looked almost unbeatable. He's an incredible, talented, pretty much like a once in a generation type back. Yeah. Can make plays out of the backfield, can run the, I mean, he could, he does it. Oh, he's an ultimate weapon. That is just another guy, a great guy. That's the guy you want to stop.

That's the guy you have to stop. If you're the San Francisco, if you're a defensive coordinator, when you're playing the San Francisco 49ers, Deebo is a weapon, don't get me wrong. Purdy, you're game playing a little bit for Purdy and Purdy stepped up last night. Of course, he faced the Mike McDonald defense.

And once again, remember last year when he was with the Baltimore, when Mike McDonald's with the Baltimore Ravens and, and Purdy through those four interceptions, he actually talked about that last night. Just try to keep it simple and obviously check the ball down when I needed to and, and hit my number one or number two in my progression as efficiently as I could. And, and I just kept it simple. You know, last year in that game, I feel like I just got out of rhythm and I was trying to force stuff and, and it just, I just wasn't playing in the right mindset of being aggressive, being smart and taking what the defense gave me. So I learned my lesson in that game and then coming into this game, obviously new personnel, it's the Seahawks, not the Ravens. And, and so for me, it was all right, similar scheme, yes, but this is what we're trying to attack and how can I be efficient as best as I can. So that was my mindset. So I give credit to right there.

I'm gonna give, I'm gonna give him some props because over the years I've been, I've been, I haven't hated on them, but I haven't given him the love I believe that other people have given him. I've always looked at Brock Purdy and said, well, you know what? Look, you got all those weapons around you.

You got Deebo, you got Kettle. You got Christian McCaffrey around you. You just don't have to make mistakes, but he's a quarterback.

Quarterbacks deserve the credit when they win. They deserve the blame when they lose and in games last year, especially against the Baltimore Ravens, I say, see, that's the Brock Purdy. That's Brock Purdy right there.

That's what you're going to get. He's not that kind of guy that's going to elevate his scene. Brock Purdy has been consistent this year and I give it to him.

I give him a lot of credit, give him a lot of love. But once again, without Christian McCaffrey, this scene's not going to make the playoffs. I said it right here. I'm going to continue to hold on with that schedule that the San Francisco 49ers have this scene without Christian McCaffrey is not going to make the playoffs. We are in playoff mode though when it comes to the postseason in baseball. We are in playoff mode, postseason baseball, Red Sox not in it, which is always good.

Come on, man. I know you was clapping over there. I was clapping for my Yankees, baby. So happy Yankees win. I mean, here's the thing.

The Yankees are in the ALCS for the fourth time in eight seasons. I'm going to tell you why after the break, why I'm not so excited about it. I'm not so excited about a superstar player right now. And it's time that he starts to receive some of the criticism that he deserves. We're going to talk to Jason's talk about that and other things, baseball, postseason coming up right after the break.

Last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed. What was it like shooting that scene though with Ray Kinsella and his father? What I did was I went back to when I first read it. And so I become the audience when I read it.

And I, when I read it, I went, I couldn't believe that it had orchestrated itself to that thing. And I had that feeling on the couch. And so I knew if I played that straight, I didn't wink at anybody that these players did come, you know, that's my corn. You know, they kept coming after me. I wasn't going to be able to do that movie. I was going to do Revenge.

And I got into a, finally Revenge kept getting pushed, kept getting pushed. And finally I had to put my foot down and say, look if you don't get this movie together, I'm going to go to do this movie in the corn. I asked the director, why did you hold out for me so long?

Why? And he said, well, and this is one of the greatest actors we've ever seen. He goes, they wanted me to do Robin Williams. And I said, I said, Robin Williams is perfect. He said, yeah, but when I think of Robin, I think he does hear voices in the corn. And I don't want that. People don't believe you hear voices. That was a, that's a director that makes a save.

That's a Mariano Rivera, you know, it's a save. He saved his movie because of his belief in an idea, you know, not the quality of actor because Robin Williams will never, of course, this is, this is a guy so special, but I, but I was curious. I said, he's actually a bigger star than me, you know, you know, whatever. And he goes, I need somebody that you don't think hears voices. And that would be you.

I've never heard Robin Williams was considered for that role. That's unbelievable. And then you did it. And obviously we're, we're talking about it today. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It had gold dust on it when I read it, because I did that little intake of breath.

Do you want to have a catch? And of course I, I wept myself. All right, welcome back to the Rich Eyes and Show radio network. I'm sitting at the Rich Eyes and Show desk furnished by Grainger with supplies and solutions for every industry. Grainger has the right product for you.

Call click Grainger.com or just stop by. I'm excited. Baseball season. This is the only time that really matters in baseball, the post-season, especially if you're a New York fan, especially if you're a New York Yankee fan, which I am. Grew up 158th street to Rod Avenue, right across the street from the old Yankee stadium. Saw the great Yankee teams, the dynasties win. I got seven world series championships in my lifetime. I should be straight, but as you know, Yankee fans are never satisfied. It's been 15 years.

That's a shame. 15 years since we've gone to the world series. That's a long drought. It's the longest drought I believe in since the Bay roof days, 81 to 96. That was a long time.

Well, let me get you some. It's been a long time, but they're back in the ALCS for the fourth time in eight seasons, man. And I'm excited about it.

As a matter of fact, both, you know, TJC, the Mets in the NLCS suit for the first time in 2015. They're doing great. They're doing awesome. Yeah. They're they're good. Yeah.

For right now. That sounds a little disrespectful to me. I don't know how it sounds to American. I don't think it's disrespect. It's a great story. What they're doing is outstanding. As a matter of fact, let's talk about that, man. Let's talk about that.

And the other teams out there trying to get into the LCS series, Jason start one of the best in the business. Of course, MLB senior writer for the athletic hanging out with us, my old pal, haven't talked to him in a long time. Good to see you, Jason. You too, Mike. How are you, man?

I am good. Let's can we start with the Yankees, please? Let's just because they won last night. It got into the ALCS. They knocked off the Kansas city Royals in four games last this series. Gary Cole, the reason why they brought him to the scene was to be an ace. Of course, he won Cy Young last year, started the season off a little injured. And but last night, last night proves the reason why they want him on their team being the ace in these critical situations to lock it down. Seven strong innings last night.

What'd you see out of them? Yeah, Garrett Cole is one of the last of the old school aces. Mike, you know what I mean? He lives for these moments and it's one of the things that that makes him special.

It's why it's why the paychecks come at the size they count every two weeks. You know, he's he's got one hundred and fifty career wins. There's no current healthy pitcher under 30 who's even got 60. That tells you why, you know, he's a little different than everybody else out there. And I had no doubt that he would show up in a game like that. And you just see it on his face, don't you?

You are not beating me tonight. And he he just has that aura and he delivers. He delivers.

He was critical last night. Once again, seven strong and he's got the job done, survived a little bit of a scare in the seventh inning there that could have tied the game. The bullpen masterful this postseason. Fourteen, two thirds scoreless innings there. They've been outstanding. Giancarlo Stanton was outstanding in this series.

Glabor Torres getting on base. But, you know, as Yankee fans, we're never satisfied. We got a guy on our team is going to be maybe the unanimous MVP in Aaron Judge. Phenomenal guy.

I love him to death. Don't get me wrong. Regular season matters. But in the postseason, you know as well as I do as a Yankee fan, if you don't show up in the postseason, no matter what you did in the regular season, people are going to start hating on you. Now, is it fair because we did the same thing with Barry Bonds. We did the same thing with Alex Rodriguez early on when they weren't showing up in the postseason, despite their success in the regular season. Is it fair to be critical of Aaron Judge if he doesn't come through in the postseason, especially in the LCS?

Come on, man. It's at some point, Aaron Judge is going to have to have a Mr. October moment. It's one of the crazy aspects to baseball is David Frye can be Mr. October. And Aaron Judge takes all the heat. Coach Swarber actually made this point the other night I was at the Mets Phillies that, you know, if you look at an NBA game, Steph Curry has the ball a hundred times a night. And Aaron Judge, Kyle Swarber, the stars of our sport, what do they get? Eight swings a night.

And so I think one of the things we do best is overreact to a given night or a given week in October. I do think he's been better the last two games. You're really not seeing him chasing. He hit a couple of balls in Kansas City that were, what, 114, 115 miles an hour. You can see it's in there, but if your question is, is it fair to demand that Aaron Judge eventually do that thing that they're paying to do in these games? I think that is fair. The Yankees are going to win the World Series. I don't think Aaron Judge hitting 154 in every round is going to fly. Yeah. And I agree with you.

Like, it's not going to fly. Not, not in New York City, in any other city that he would probably be able to get away with it. But once again, like you said, we, we criticize Barry Bonds for this, even in the NFL, they used to criticize Peyton Manning because, hey, you can win all the MVPs you want to, but if you don't show up in the postseason against the New England Patriots when it matters the most and not get your team to the Super Bowl, you're going to be criticized. I don't, I think Aaron Judge is a great guy, a wonderful guy, a media-friendly guy, and people love him. But once again, if you don't show up when it really matters the most, I think it's fair that you can put the onus on him for his team not getting to the world. Look, once again, it's been 15 years since Yankees got to the World Series.

He's gone to the LCS four times. Since 2000, since 2021, he hasn't done jack for the New York Yankees in the postseason. And once again, you're talking about David Fry having a Mr. October moment.

Aaron Judge has not had a Mr. October moment, period, in the Yankee uniform. Okay. That's true. But could I remind you something?

They just won that series. If I, if I had to say to you a week ago, if Aaron Judge is going to hit 154 in the division series and drive in no runs, do you think the, would you have told me that you think the Yankees are playing right now? Not at all. Not at all. John Carlos Stanton is carrying this scene right now.

Glaibor Torres is carrying this scene. And also I need people like Jash Chisholm to shut up when it, when it comes to, you know, talking smack. Don't talk smack and say, people are lucky and you don't come through yourself. So I'm not going to just, I'm going to spread the criticism around. This is just me being a Yankees fan. So forgive me. Let me go back to being a professional here, Jason Stark, and talk about it. Can I just say something though? I want to, I don't want to zip past what their bullpen has done.

Yes. We really mentioned that because a couple of weeks ago, I was sitting around a ballpark talking to some scouts who were advancing for their teams ahead of the post-season. And we started talking about the Yankees. And here's the question that came up after Luke Weaver. Who's their second most reliable reliever. And we had a hard time agreeing on one.

Okay. It seemed like an excellent question to ask. And then that bullpen goes out and gives up no earned runs in the whole series. And they did that at a time when it feels like everywhere else, the best relievers on earth had been giving it up into a bunch of crushing defeats.

I think about it, a manual class say, and Kate Smith in Cleveland and Josh Hader in Houston and Devin Williams in Milwaukee. And I, Jeff Hoffman had a fantastic year for the Phillies. And while all that's going on, the Yankees bullpen turns unhittable. And just a reminder that baseball this time of year is just amazing. And Clay Holmes has been stepping up in this role, his new role with the Yankees as well. So shout out to all of them and Conley and all those guys with the Yankees right now.

Let's move on to the Guardians series with the Tigers. Once again, David Fry has his Mr. October moments saving their season last night, but now they got to face school in game five. If you're a Detroit Tigers fan, how are you liking these odds?

Even on the road? Yeah, it's really hard to bet against Tarek Scubel in game five. He hasn't given up a run in the whole post season. Hitters are hitting one 59 against him.

And I'll be honest, when I looked it up, I was surprised it was that high. The last time he gave up a run was September 18th. The last time he gave up a run was September 18th. And the last time he gave up more than one run was more than five weeks ago. Guardians haven't beaten them since 2021.

So he, he looks like Justin Verlander 2.0. And that, you know, I know the Guardians have home field for this game and I know that's worth something, but doesn't the Scubel advantage top any other advantage right now? Yep.

Yeah. Well you just hope that you're starting pitching just kind of matches him and you get them late in the innings and you can get to that bullpen. Like you said, the bullpens have been kind of shaky for everybody else except the Yankees so far this post season. I got to get to the Dodgers and the Padres series, a critical game five tonight and critical more so for the LA Dodgers.

I'm out here in Los Angeles. I know Dodgers fans always panicking. They're like not another year where we have a great regular season and once again post season. So it's not just Yankee fans. It's also Dodger fans out here too. How critical is tonight's game for the Dodgers? I know they use what eight or nine pitchers in game four to get them there. They got Yamamoto on the mound tonight. How critical is tonight's do or die game five for the Dodgers, not only for advancing or ending their season, but I'm talking about for the future of the scene. You know, they're another team that it's world series or bust.

And you know, the, the bust always has repercussions. I do want to say, I can't wait for this game tonight. This series has been so good. We have star power and bad blood and just a million twists and turns. Each team's one in the other park. It's been, it's just been so good.

And I think pretty sure tonight I'll have a big rating in Tokyo, you Darvish versus Otani and Yamamoto. I mean, bring that on. Yeah. Look, what happens if they lose?

Is that kind of what you're asking me? It always feels like David, Dave Robert's job is hanging in the balance. Every time they don't get to the world series, they don't win the world series. I just have to ask you though, could Tommy Lasorda have won with his pitching staff? No. And that's the thing to remember. Here's a, here's a story that Otani gained in Miami a couple of weeks ago.

Okay. They scored 20 runs in that game. And the next day I was talking to an executive from another contender. And he said to me, the Dodgers just scored 20 runs. I watched that happen. And all I could think about was okay, but who's pitching tomorrow road to 27 ounces.

So hard, so hard. And I mean, I don't know if, I don't know what's going to happen, but it doesn't feel like this is a manager thing. It feels to me like it's about roster construction and trying to figure out why all their pitchers keep getting hurt more than it is about the manager, but it's, it's LA anything is possible. So Freeman constructed his team. You bring in a pitcher in Yamamoto, you give them $300 million, whatnot.

He's, he's injury played this year, glass now, who's always been injury played. You give him a ton of money and he's can't even finish the season. So who's your starting pitcher tonight.

You got Yamamoto. And once again, they had a bullpen game to save their season in game four. So it can't just be on the manager, Dave Roberts, once again, who is a pretty solid manager.

If you don't have the tools out there that are necessary, man. So we'll see. And then once again, they got to deal with Freddie Freeman. He's got an injury. See if he's able to play the good news for the Dodgers though, is that Mookie best seems like he's kind of getting out of his slump, especially over the last two games. So it should be a really good game against the Padres, a really solid squag, delicious team, man. And Fernando has been so good, Jason.

Yeah, he, there's a guy who loves the stage, right? I mean, you know, there's a funny dynamic to this series. The Dodgers are the behemoth theoretically. They spent a billion dollars on free agents over the winter.

They're the number one seed. They won more games than anybody in the sport. And yet I haven't talked to anybody in baseball this week who doesn't feel like the Padres have the better team and the better roster right now. They won the season series and played great in Dodger stadium. And now you've got a winner take all game in Dodger stadium.

And have they shown any fear of the moment? I know in the other night, but like if, if you're asking me to pick somebody, I would, I would make the pick that it feels like everybody in baseball would, would make the Padres are the team right now. They're the team.

Nobody wants to play. And I think that includes the Dodgers tonight. Yeah, I think they're, they're walking in with more swagger, more confidence in the stars with Manny Machado.

I mean, I love his swagger, his confidence. And once again, Satis is doing his thing. They got the rookie of the year, possibly in the NL and they're even though they're on the road, I'm giving the Padres the favorite to, to win and move on to the NLCS where they could be facing the Mets. I know you just covered the Mets in the Philadelphia Philly series. How amazing. I mean, I know it's amazing mess, but how amazing is this season? And I was just talking to you before we start a segment, this, this scene sort of reminds me without the payroll, obviously 2003 of the, what the Marlins did that year when they made that run to win it all.

Yeah. It's almost hilarious to think of the Mets as underdogs. They'd be the first $346 million underdogs in history, but they, they do have that vibe to them.

And, you know, the Marlins payroll in 2003, the team that up ended the Yankees, it was slightly less than 346 million slightly slightly. But I was around both of these teams through the, through this run. And there is a common theme and we do see it this time of year, no matter what happens, no matter what the score is, no matter how late the game it is, no matter what pitchers coming in the game, they just think they're going to find a way. And it's been just an amazing ride because it's not just how the Mets have won. It's not just that the Mets have won. It's the way they've won. They've had one win in this whole post-season where they haven't had to come from behind every other game. And even if you go back to that, the classic regular season clincher in Atlanta has involved some kind of late inning comeback, a historic comeback against some reliever who never ever gives up a run or a hit against anyone else. You know, they just done one of these magic carpet rides and it, I think it makes them really dangerous no matter who they play.

I mean, how, how good would it be? You're talking about the swagger and the confidence that teams are playing with right now, the Padres and the Mets in the NLCS. Nobody really saw that coming at the beginning of the season. Right. So, I mean, I know the Padres aren't there yet, but yeah, if the Padres get there, obviously, you know, these have been the two best teams in the league in the second half though. Yeah. And the second half in baseball is the equivalent of a whole NBA season.

So it's not a small sample. We probably shouldn't be surprised, but you're right. Nobody would have seen this coming when spring training started because both of these teams in the winter were dumping stars.

Yeah. You know, Soto, Verlander, Scherzer, all gone. And this was not supposed to be the year. And yet they really have looked like the two best teams on that side of the draw. Regardless of who the Mets play in the NLCS, it should be a lot of fun, whether it's the Dodgers or the Padres. And the NLCS is going to be a lot of fun as well.

See who the Yankees get to face, either the Detroit Tigers or the Cleveland Guardians. Always a pleasure to talk to my man, Jason Stark. I miss you, kid. You're looking good, man. You're looking preserved, bro. They say crack, but you're looking great, my brother. Keep doing your thing, whatever you're doing, happiness and hydration. I tell people happiness and hydration that really matters. And I told you something else off the air. So continue to do that as well.

I'm living the dream just like you. Always great to talk to you. All right. Jason Stark hanging out with us here on the Rich Eyes show. Oh, man.

I love talking to Jason, man. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Mets. I really like him. I like him. I get because I'm a Yankees fan. TJ is hard to give me to give them the credit they deserve. You know, I can't go all in, but deep down inside, I'm still in New York.

All right. I was born in New York. All my teams are in New York. So the Yankees don't make it. I go with the Mets.

Oh, because we had a caller yesterday. Ask that he was a Yankee fan and he was wondering, like, if we don't make it, is it okay if I root for the Mets? And so the Yankees, I'll tell you this, because I used to go, me and Linda Cone, you know, Linda Cone from Sports Center ESPN.

Legend. Huge Mets fan. Love the Mets. She hates the Yankees.

I'm like, but you're a New Yorker, Linda. She's like, no, I just can't root for them. She rooted in 2009. I was at ESPN. She rooted for the Philadelphia Phillies. Wow.

To knock off the man. I'm like, the Phillies are your rivals, right? The Phillies are your division. They're your rivals. And you're going to go against New York. She just hates the Yankees.

And that's, I think that's a big brother, little brother kind of complex. You know what I mean? So as a Yankee fan, when you've won 27 World Series championships, when you've, when I've won seven in my lifetime, you know, I can understand, Hey, Mets, you know, 86. I was rooting for you guys back then. Darryl Strawberry, you know, Gooden and all those guys, the doc, you know, Gary Carter. I was, I was rooting for you guys, even in 2015.

Yeah. I was rooting the Daniel Murphy era. I was rooting for the Mets. So I, as a New Yorker, still through and through, I can still give you the props and love, but Mets fans can't root for the Yankees because you just don't want to see.

And it's just like, and that's like the rest of Major League Baseball. It's like a Laker clipper thing, except the Lakers definitely would never root for the clipper. Yeah. Laker fans wouldn't root for Lakers either. I think Laker fans may root for the listen to me.

No. If you're an LA fan, no. If you're, if you're in the city of Los Angeles, don't you, you don't want to see your city when, because your city, there's very few people like for me, I know the cats that I'm, I'm cool with in New York. Like some of these cats is New York to the bone, right?

So yeah, no rock with the Mets. If the Yankees is out just because it's a New York thing, I don't think you have that same sense here in LA when it comes to like Lakers, Clippers, Lakers fans. And I know a lot of them just hate the Clippers and then they never root from it. So that, that situation, that's the Hatfields and McCoys right there. I think that just kind of recently started happening when the Clippers started dominating the Lakers and the Clippers started talking mess, but the Clippers hadn't won anything yet.

So Laker fans like y'all ain't won nothing. That was the thing that matters. Oh, okay. All right. Well, I get it.

All right. Now I'll root for the Mets on our side. You know what I mean?

As long as Grimace is with us, who can be against us? That's a Bible verse. Go ahead. Drop them bars right there.

Verse eight. Get you some happy meals out there, man. What is a Grimace by the way?

I ran into the Coen brothers a couple of years before that, I guess. Had a party and they said, we're writing something for you. I say, Oh, great.

Cause I was a big fan of Blood Simple and some other early. And then I got the script and I said, what? This is not like anything I've done. Were you spying? Did you crash some of my high school parties and you're going to let me, where did this guy come from? Was it a character based on anybody that you know? Yeah, it was based on a guy named Jeff Boud for them. They used him quite a bit. I met him, he came on the script.

I didn't use him too much. I really referenced myself and the script. When did you realize that this film would become in many ways, you can't even call it a cult. It's a classic. It's just a flat out classic now.

Yeah. I was surprised cause we had a great time making it and we were all, you know, laughing and, you know, figuring out, you know, this was a fun movie. We didn't think it was going to be anything like it was today, but I was surprised when it first came out and did nothing. It was like, you know, kind of a bomb. And then it played in Europe and they got it.

And then it splashed back over on our shores. And then, you know, he grew to become more, as one of our colleagues on this show has a friend who went to a Lebowski bar in Iceland. Oh yeah. We got these, we have a Lebowski Fest. I've been to it. I played with my band at a Lebowski Fest. That was my Beatle moment. Can you imagine playing to a sea of dudes and bowling pins? It's totally surreal.

Oh my God. Mike Hill back on the Rich Eisen Show filling in for Rich Eisen today on this Friday. This fun Friday, man, I love going to football games.

I love going to see the New York John's whenever they play in any stadium that they are in or whatever. Going as a fan and not just using my media credentials, you know, I wish I had, you know, back in the day, I wish I had an app like Game Times and get those tickets, man, because it takes the guesswork out of buying concert tickets, games with Game Time. You can download the Game Time app. You can create an account. Use the code Rich for $20 off your first purchase. Terms apply. Visit GameTime.com for restrictions.

Again, you create an account and redeem code, spell out Rich and you get $20 off. Download Game Time today. What time is it? Game Time?

Game Time? Love that, man. Love that. Love that. We've been talking about football.

We've been talking about baseball. Now it's time to hear from you April 4th, 12th for Rich and I hear this is an oldie and a goodie and a long time listener. Rich in Motown.

What up though, Rich? Jeff. Jeff. Jeff. Jeff in Detroit. Jeff in Detroit. Jeff in Detroit.

Jeff. Okay. Don't, don't, don't worry, Mike. We'll get you together, baby.

Oh, my cousin's holding it down. Listen, man. What up, man? You're on fire, baby. What's happening?

It's a mess, man. Listen, I want some of that magic for my Tigers. One more game. It's kind of like the casino gives you $25. You go in and hit for 10,000 and you keep just, keep just hitting it. You know what I'm saying? You're not cashing in.

You just keep letting it ride. So hopefully Saturday, we'll be doing some things. Now Sunday, I'm calling about a bet possibly with you. So I'm just simple and goofy.

Oh yeah, that's right. I saw your tweet. If I lose, I'll just get on camera with a cowboy shirt and say, how about them cowboys with a cowboy shirt?

Jeff, why would you want to do that? You get on the camera with a Detroit lion shirt and roar. How about those Detroit lions or something like that?

Oh, TJ. Come on. I won't wear a lion's paraphernalia, but I will give up something that is priceless and that is time and appearances on the Roku channel. So I'll doctor the sign to say something nice about the lions. I think because it's Halloween, it's easy to go find an outfit where you dress as a lion. Yeah, go get a lion costume.

Like the cowardly lion on the Wizard of Oz or something like that. Oh yes. I don't like to give up that space.

So I'm giving you the whiteboard. That's all I'm willing to do anyway. So it's either that or really nothing Mike. I really, I don't think he believes in his boys.

That's what it sounds like. Hey Jeff, I think your team is the best team in the NFC, bro. I think your team is destined to go to the Superbowl and actually win it all this year.

I really appreciate that. I'm not just saying that because you're from Detroit. We have a quarterback and the one thing that Detroit Lions fans have really been able to say only one other time with Max Stafford is a career quarterback that we couldn't rely on. Franchise quarterback. Lions fans don't get to say franchise quarterback often. Man, Jeff, golf went what, 18-18 last week?

Yes sir. 18-18 last week. Hey man, the Lions are that team this year, man. Good luck to everything. Good luck on Saturday with Schoobel, man, going on the mound. It will be a fascinating great week for the city of Detroit.

I love Motown, man. What up though, Jeff? Appreciate you, my brother. What up, Joe?

What up, Joe? Let's go Cowboys. I don't think you believe in your Cowboys, bro.

I definitely believe in them. I mean, because you take the bet then. Then you know if you believe that your team is going to win, you don't have to worry about you.

It's a home game. But if they lose, I'm not dressed up like, even though I'm okay with the line. I'm a Leo. I'm just, you know, like I said, the whiteboard's my thing. That's how I pay off my bets traditionally on this show. So who would you put on the whiteboard? You know, like I lost a bet to a 49er fan, actually, Jordan, who works with us.

I had to put something about bang bang Niner gang. That's the thing that means the most to me here. So I, you know, I will change up the whiteboard.

That's how I do it. I'm gonna take your word for it, man. Cowboys can't lose another home game though, bro. We're in despair.

It's like three and two. There's no despair. How so this team is not good. That's fine. But this is not good. Look, you got two wins against the Giants and the Steelers who can't run the football.

Okay. But we beat the Steelers. They were Superbowl contenders.

Yes. Ain't nobody seen nobody steals big Superbowl. People were riding high on the Steelers in the defense. Everybody watching show was two weeks.

Yes. Nobody was saying anything about Pittsburgh being super bowl contenders. Nobody, nobody, nobody. It's like, okay. It's surprising that they're on the undefeated. I guess some people were riding high on the Steelers in that defense. True or false.

They were riding high on the defense. Okay. All right. We'll see a huge weekend in college football coming up. We're going to talk to Mike Goley Jr. About that and much, much more on the Rich Eisen show. Stick around on the radio side, but we still here on TV side. Well, you can see me and I'm telling you right now.

You can see me. Cowboys fans. Your defense is horrible.

Know the Marcus Lawrence. You still ain't got, you still ain't got your superstar player. Is he coming back this week? You know how many yards rushing the Cowboys gave up last week against the giant scene that can't run the football. You know how much they gave up against the Steelers team who against the Steelers team that ain't been running the football this year outside of the quarterback uses. I mean, I'm just saying, and then you know what the Detroit Lions does. They run random football. We're going to see golf with 18 for 18 because they only threw 18 times.

That means they run the football. David Montgomery is going to run all down y'all throws this week. But then again, he might not know. Then again, he might not.

He will. All right, well, so listen, let us make a bet. I ain't about that. I can't control it. There will not be one tackle made by me.

There will not be one complete. Okay. I mean, the training, even my team, I just believe in them that much. And I just don't like the Cowboys.

That's right. So you're talking from a place of hate. I'm going to tell you right now is not really speaking facts.

Just speaking about your distance. Facts. It is facts. They can't stop the run. They really can't against a good running team. They can't stop the run. And I don't really believe in that offense all that well with that being the quarterback.

Look, got his money just a little bit wrong. We'll see what happens down a little bit. All right. Settle down. Talk more about the Yankees. Talk about everything else that's going on.

Might go to junior college football big weekend in college football coming up. Bingo. All right, Bill, we're recording now. And please put your phone on silent. Oh, where is my phone? Let's go, man. Get it together over there, player. Go ahead. Pick on me the way that you want to. I would say that to my son. Just go.
