Sunday night football analyst, Chris Collinsworth. 49ers tackle Trent Williams. And now, it's Rich Eisen. Our number two of the Rich Eisen Show on the air. Chris Long, our number one. Chris Collinsworth, our number three. But just to prove that you don't need to be named Chris to appear on today's program, Trent Williams will be on the program.
And our number three future hall of fame left tackle of the San Francisco 49ers. And joining us to kick off our number two back on the program, an NBA champion and a podcaster, an entrepreneur, and now an author. The new book, All the Smoke, All the Stars, All the Stories, No Apologies, available on October 8th, wherever you get your books. Available now for pre-order.
None other than Matt Barnes here on the program. Yes, indeed. Thank you. We have half the smoke here today? Yeah, half the smoke is here. The other half is in Atlanta. Is that where he is?
Yeah, that's where he lives. Yeah, but yeah, I mean, tremendous honor to be partnering with Simon & Schuster to do a coffee table book. You know, first podcast to do a coffee table book. So, that's awesome. We're really excited, you know, making it. It's been about a year and a half in the making and it's finally here. So, we hope you guys go out and get it.
That's absolutely right. And now you're celebrating your five-year anniversary next month. Five years. This month. It's October. It's like next week. What date is your anniversary?
It actually might be end of this week. I don't even know. We got to check on that.
October 6th is our 10-year anniversary. Is it? Yeah. We're five in, man. I mean, we were talking off camera, obviously, about the business of it now. You know, we've left, you know, Paramount came in and kind of dismantled Showtime and we saw it coming. So, we made a jump and, you know, we've been up since JN1, all the Smoke Productions. It's been a fun learning experience. We know the feeling.
Yes, yes, yes. We know the feeling with the reorganization and the business and streaming and all that stuff, man. So, you and...
I'm in the mix. You are a CEO. I'm the CEO. You're the CEO of all the Smoke Productions. We're able to bring, you know, Brian Daly over from Showtime who was second in charge of sports over there and, you know, Jelani McCoy, UCLA Bruin and we've kind of just built out a close team of just, you know, creatives and it's been fun.
You know, we've had such amazing projects come across our plate already and it's been learning, but I've had a blast doing it. What's Steven Jackson's title? What is his title? Where's he on the flow chart?
Do we know? He's a co-founder. You know, obviously, you know, he helped start this, but he's not a ton on the business side. He's more on let me know when I need to be there and I'm gonna do my thing.
The minister of spirit. Right, there you go. So, yeah, I'm in the weeds daily. You know, obviously, getting this off the ground and growing it. Literally in the weeds. No pun intended, but yeah. The smoke's got to come from somewhere. It'll come from me.
Well, I mean, and your latest episode, sir, that dropped on Monday. Yeah. Your guest is Kamala Harris, the sitting vice president of the United States and democratic nominee for the next president of the United States. Where did we shoot this one? Her house in DC.
You went to DC. We went to the vice president, yeah, the home and got a chance to see her put her touch. I questioned it because obviously there's never been a woman in there, but particularly a black woman. So I figured it was probably a little stuffy in there. So I asked if she got to put her touch on it.
She's like, I'm glad you asked and showed us some, some amazing art pieces and sculptures that she had brought in and really, really homely welcome, you know, welcomed us and hospitable. And it was a great opportunity. Yeah. I saw you had cards, you know, all your questions on cards.
So you kind of tighten it up a little bit. It was fun. I mean, you know, a lot of people ask why and, and, you know, the way I look at it is, is why not, you know, I think we didn't do it to be a political interview.
We know that's not our core. Although I enjoy policy and politics but we did it to get a chance to know her as a person. We touched on some policy we felt as important to our community, but overall we just want to know more about her. You know, I mean, we talked about mental health. We talked about her growing up biracial, similar to me, you know, step-parent similar to me.
You know, mental health. Her first date with Doug and did she ever think, you know, a blind date in 2013 would land her, you know, knocking on the door to possibly being, you know, the, the next president. So we just got a chance to laugh and smile and crack some jokes and, and, and learn more about her. Well, I mean, I know Steven in particular and you as well were very outspoken in the aftermath of George Floyd, which occurred in her vice presidential nominees home state.
Did you touch upon that? We touched, we, uh, we touched on it and, and obviously understanding, you know, why that bill died and where it died and how they were able to still add some pieces to that, to, to what they're doing now. But, um, you know, obviously, you know, learning about this process of politics has been fascinating for me. And, and, and I think there's a misunderstanding if you do know politics of the actual power of the president and the vice president, you know, it's, it's, it's the house, the Congress, the Senate is really where, you know, where everything really lives that. So just kind of beginning to learn that piece by piece and understanding, you know, obviously November 5th is important, but following up, you know, the agenda comes after that and, and, and, and all these seats that are up for grabs come after that.
So we have to stay attentive if, if we want change. So did you alert, uh, the secret service in advance? It would be a smokeless podcast. I smoked before I went, I didn't want to, I didn't want to, you know, take any chances. I have a newborn, so I had to make it back home. So, you know, I wasn't taking any chances. So I kept the cannabis at the hotel and, you know, did my, my, my, my pregame film study and smoke session before I went and knocked out the interview.
Just want to make sure I had to get right. You know, no fingerprints, no evidence. They wanted my social security numbers. I knew that I couldn't bring no weed there. Background check.
Oh yes. What kind of, what kind of check do you have to go through to get that type of Social security, like sixth grade burst or a report card. That's what they mean by this going on your permanent record.
I mean, you know, and, and, and, you know, I think they just do a brief check to make sure that, you know, they may know, but really know what they're getting into. You got through it. I made it through in and out unscathed. Congratulations on, on all of that.
Thank you. The story going in the NBA season is what do you think Matt Barnes? I mean, obviously in LA, did the Lakers, the Lakers really didn't make any moves. But I just love seeing like nearly brought a tear to my eye yesterday, just maybe cause I'm getting older and I have kids of my own just to see Bronnie and, and, and, and Braun out there to share, to share the media day.
Love that. You know, Wes is tough, you know, are these, these, these new young teams, are they ready to really take the throne and, and run with it? I'm out East, you know, you hear him be dropped 20 pounds.
So is, is he serious? And what kind of, you know, addition does Paul George add to that team? Boston got a lot of chips on their shoulder. What did you think of the Carl Anthony towns trade? That's about to become official. I think that first of all, I love Julius Randle.
I'm I was a dog. He's a super dog and obviously even Chen zone, what they brought to that team, but I'm not mad at this trade if I'm a Knicks fan or if, if I'm the Knicks from a standpoint of currently towns is extremely talented. I think sometimes for his skillset, he settles a little too much. I feel like what do you mean?
What do you mean by settling? Just shooting too many threes, you know, although he is probably one of the best three point shooting bigs in the game, I think a little bit better balance, um, would serve him right. Because I feel like he's unguardable out there. He's a three level score, brings energy, gets downhill, can dunk on you, can make plays, can obviously shoot three. So I think the Knicks did a good job of, you know, kind of giving themselves what they feel is the best chance to win.
I mean, it's yet to see. I mean, you look at him and Julius and their numbers are similar. You know, Carl maybe has a few more all-star appearances, but I'm happy for him to get a fresh start, you know, cut with Tibbs again. And he, you know, he, he, I think I want to say he averaged 23, 24 points a game under Tibbs when he was with Minnesota.
So this is interesting. I mean, the Knicks, you know, being able to get bridges and, and, you know, sign OG and get this team coming back. I mean, they're looking tough. Well, I mean, I guess if you're, and as I was talking about it here yesterday, I know so many Knicks fans, they fell in love with Julius Randall and for good reason. This is when he showed up as a free agent when nobody wanted to come, wanted to go. And he made it, he began to make it a spot where you could show off your skillset.
You could be a star and you could win some games and he got traded for it. He, well, I know that. I know that. But because when, when push comes to shove and you've got Giannis, you've got Embiid and you've got a championship team that hardly lost a playoff game in their championship run featuring Porzingis and you, you, I mean, you've got to be able to get somebody like Karl-Anthony Towns with all due respect to Randall and obviously the big rago here. I mean, by adding bridges and Kat, I think that's a better team. I do too.
You know, I do too. And again, huge fan of Devan Chenzo and what he did and the energy he brought. I mean, that three he made against TJ's Philadelphia 76ers. He was, he was unconscious. He got you, huh, TJ? I mean, we had some old stuff, man.
We don't need to bring up old stuff. But Embiid was killing him. Yeah. When he was healthy. Yeah.
When he was able to get out and killing him. And that's, and Rich, you know, that's, that's the tough part of the business. You know, obviously, you know, there was a stigma on New York and, and, and no, you know, you hear, you heard rumors of KD was close to going there with maybe Kyrie and you hear the dudes and, but no one really wanted to take that jump. And he did, you know, obviously management's changed a little bit and then the owners kind of stepped back a little bit and allowed guys to do their thing. So I think the stigma's, you know, kind of being lifted, making New York possibly a destination again. But I think, again, as much as I love Julius and Dante, I think this is a good pickup and I think it's going to work for them. Man. I love that sphere in Vegas for two reasons.
I love seeing shows there. And it took the owner out of the equation. Cause he's locked in on that sphere in Vegas. Again, I don't know the, uh, nuts and bolts of the Dolan operation, but it just gave him something else to play with that play with that sphere. So the other sphere in New York can be passed around to a better squad. I think if that had something to do with it, then God bless that sphere, man.
God bless it. TJ, you wanted to jump in here for a second? Yeah. I just want to ask Matt, cause Matt, all the times you've been here, I don't think we've touched on this yet. A few months ago, you know, Austin, uh, rivers, rivers said the, the quote that, you know, NBA players being able to play in the NFL and vice versa.
Now you, like I said, something I don't think we've talked about on any of your, your appearances here. You were one of the top wide receivers in high school. I believe you led the state and touchdown nation nation.
My bad. You led the nation and receptions as a six, seven wide out. So I feel you're uniquely qualified more so than most to, to kind of answer that question about crossover NFL players playing in the NBA and vice versa. I think it's a great conversation.
I think the energy and the arrogance he, he delivered it with was probably wrong. But if I were to say who can cross over and, and, and make a career out of it, I would definitely have to say basketball players crossing over into football. Cause you've seen it. You've seen the Jimmy Grahams. You've seen the, um, Tony Gonzalez, you've seen Antonio Gates. You've seen guys kind of make that transition, um, Julius peppers. Um, but football is a different beast. And you know, you see all the football guys that you go across them and growing across the middle is no joke.
You know what I mean? So I definitely think that you're a one percenter being in both of those categories and, and, and, you know, you worked your tail off to get there, but I would definitely say that the crossover is easier for basketball than it is football. But I wouldn't say there's a whole bunch of guys that can do it because although they may have the athleticism, the size, the speed, the skill, they haven't been hit going across that middle yet.
And that, that, that changes that can change your life, uh, and, and, and really wake you up. Although they're not really hitting like they used to hit, but still, I mean, unless you have that football mentality, football is a tough sport to play. How come you stopped playing? I just, at the time I didn't really see the crossover, you know, Harold Carmichael six, seven Eagle receiver back in the day. But when I was coming out, you know, Tony Gonzalez was doing it, but he's only six, four, you know, I'm thinking I'm six, eight.
And I was thinking what, just what I said across that middle, they probably tear me up. You know, I'm only two 15 at the time. So although I felt like, and I'd say this with all due respect, I felt like I could have made the NFL and made a splash. I don't think I would have had the longevity and probably the, the free movement and no pain that I have at 44. Um, when I decided to play in the NBA, no college opportunity. Yeah, no, I was recruited to play college.
I actually, you know, funny story. I went out, I think the end of my sophomore year going into my junior year, I went out for spring ball. Um, when Bob Toledo was still there, Kate McDown was there, Freddie Mitchell, Deshaun Foster, Dixon, all those guys and went out and did spring ball and, and, and was going to play and then went back and talked to, you know, my, my, my college coach at the time, lav and, and was, we're going to make the switch and all kinds of things started changing for me on the basketball court because I wanted to play football. So I just said, all right, I'll just stick with basketball. You got more Steve Lavin. I won't be a captain. Probably won't be starting. I'm going to change dorms.
You know, I have to do a bunch of just little stuff that I'll just like that really matters right now, but it just kind of deterred me from continuing the process. So you could have been in the same receiver room as the Sultan of the slot. Freddie Mitchell, my guy, man. Love that guy. Saw him at the Rose Bowl just a few months ago. And it just, he, he looks the same. He's one of my favorites. That's my dog.
Lord. Matt, Matt Barnes here on the rich eyes and show, uh, Laker fans, um, were in particular looking at the Carl Anthony towns trade with a little bit of envy. I think, uh, what do you think of, of the JJ Redick Lakers? I love JJ. Uh, you know, it was one of the guys when I came in the league, like I'm not, I'm going to hate that guy and ended up being one of my closest basketball friends, uh, played together in Orlando, played together with the Clippers. Uh, and I think he's a great basketball mind. And I think even more than being a basketball mind now, you have to have the respect and you have to be able to relate to these guys. And I think that's something JJ can do.
Um, but you know, we were talking about it back in your green room. Like they didn't really add any pieces, you know, to a team that was a player playing team last year. Um, although LeBron played great, arguably the best player in the Olympics, he'll be 40 this year. Um, can he still do this for a whole entire season? Um, you know, Anthony Davis played more last year, played better. Um, but it's just, you know, the, the others are, will, will the other guys step up in, in a tough, much younger Western conference?
No, I don't think there's any doubt LeBron will look like the guy from the Olympics. Incredible. I really, I don't know. It's amazing. I really, I really don't have doubts there. And, um, Anthony Davis, he and Anthony Davis are spectacular obviously to have, no, I'm not going out on a limb. It is the others. Right.
And it is going to be on JJ Reddick. The question is, is how will he navigate things in a, in a better way than Darwin Ham did? And I look to you for insight on that. What do you think, man? I don't know.
Like, like I said, I don't really know what, if there was a disconnect, I'm guessing there was a disconnect with, with, with Darwin and some of the guys, but I don't really know that again. I think it's key to be in there and, and, and, and, and build those relationships and earn that trust. You know, that's not a, it's an older team, you know what I mean? Outside of a few, you know, players that are, that are a little bit younger.
So how do you as a former player go in there and, and earn that trust and respect? Obviously I think, you know, Bron pretty much stamping him without saying so is, is going to help, but at the same time, JJ is going to have to carry his weight. So I don't doubt that he can do that. Uh, again, I think he's a bright mind. I think he's a people person.
I think he's someone that is very creative and will think outside the box. Um, but at the end of the day, that and just making things work, you know, he's been in locker rooms where, you know, stars haven't got along. He's been in locker rooms where guys have got along. Um, he's been on teams like our lob city team that had all the potential in the world, but couldn't get each other out of each other's way. So I just think his journey has led him to this and, and, you know, him to be able to apply and, and, and diffuse and, and, and move forward is, is, is going to be the key to this team. And who's your pick for MVP this year?
Oh man, you're throwing it out there early. I'm going to go on a wild one and say, if he can stay healthy because he has so much pent up, I miss playing basketball in him, John Moran. I think people forget, you know, how, what kind of level and how we are talking about him before he, you know, ran into his trouble. Then obviously last year getting hurt. Um, still one of the, it's still very young, still very talented. And I think he has, you know, I think he's coming back with a chip on his shoulder. No kidding.
So I'm gonna go down the limb. I haven't heard that. No, no one said that. So that means, you know, for MVP, you've got to be on a team that's highly successful as well. So you're top four. Could they be top four, top five? I mean, the West really. Yeah.
I know that's my question. Kenny, you know, like I said, I like the player now that the, now can the team do its job and, and, and we'll, we'll have to see, but you know, it's just a tremendous, you know, Lucas do, you know, Jokic is going to be in the mix, uh, and Beatle be in the mix. Yeah. I mean, it's, it's, it's tough out there. And listen, uh, I, I can't wait to see what Brunson does with this.
Yes. It's going to be special. I mean, I think to think all the heat he got for that check, uh, you giving him too much to, to think, I think he's underpaid. Uh, he's been outperforming his, his, his, his salary and, you know, now he's got a new two new running mates and I think it's going to be some good basketball in New York. One also has to think Oklahoma city's going to be vastly improved. Nobody knows what year or two of one bun yama could look like scary with CP back there.
I kind of that that's, that's rumbling underneath Minnesota, Minnesota for sure. Well, I mean, we'll see what, what, what has, how does that fit? You know, to me, I love, I love the idea of, of, of, and getting another dog, two new dogs, you know what I mean?
Cause the aunt is, is a dog, a high level motor monster. And you're getting two guys, obviously Julius, who's an all star caliber player, but then, you know, D. Vincenzo, who's a role player, which are just as important at times, you know, to plug in and, and, and run alongside. So I'll be interested to see what that combination can do as well. Okay. All the smoke is in coffee table book form. That's available right now for pre-order. It comes out on October 8th, perfect holiday book in honor of your celebration of five years. You're having a two city live fan experiential tour. You're stopping in New York city on Monday, October 7th, Philly on the ninth, go to all the smoke productions.com slash tour for that.

PG 13. How's he going to do in Philly? I'm excited to see. Is he ready?
Is he ready? We got a chance to play some golf this summer. He's a different animal. I've been there. I know. I mean, seriously. You know how you're one minute, you're this and next minute, everybody's thinking you're the problem. They booed Santa Claus.
Yeah. They got, well, they have a problem when you bring that up. They do. Cause it's like, they feel like you're, you're painting the entire city with that large board.
No, I mean, I, you know, I played them in AI and as much as they loved AI, you know, on off nights, they weren't having it. You would still hear boos. So I mean, that's one place you can't go and hide. You kind of go out there and show your thing. And I think he'll be ready to do that. Yeah.
The Eastern conference is going to be just great. And, and as always, you know, you last time you were on, you invited me on your, your pod. I'm happy to do that. If you're ever, you know, up for it. Yes. You know, we got to, I mean, I got my man here right now that helps me remember everything.
So let's make sure we get rich in the mix. So I will tell your human memory stick. Yes. Okay. Yes.
But you don't require a social security number, right? In advance? Okay. Security's a little bit less.
A little less. We only require one thing. So we'll talk about that off camera.
All that smoke, huh? Everyone does it. Okay. Well, I didn't see the vice president didn't. I mean, some people are just exempt. Is that what you're saying?
I'm not saying that either. You got to watch the episode, right? You got to see breaking news. Fantastic. Again, all the smoke productions.com slash tour to see this man and Steven Jackson on tour and get the book, all the smoke right now.

Hey, that's my line finance smarter y'all nerd wallet compare Inc. NMLS 1617539. I cannot believe you watched Charles Oakley get dragged out of Madison Square Garden with your own two eyes. I mean, I could not like Lee was there. You can believe it.
Everyone just like it. That's that next thing you're gonna tell me Jack Nicholson was at the Lakers. See, McEnroe McEnroe was there. I know he was right there. He was like practically in Oakley's lap. Was Woody Allen there? He was not.
I don't know why that's funny. John Lithgow was John there. Steve Earl was there. So Steve Earl.
This is the new Madison Square Garden. Leon was there. Yeah. Oh, sure. Yeah. What about Bob Costas?
Costas now. Oh, yeah. Can you tell this story? You got to tell the story. When I was like 21 years old, I went to the I went to the what was it? The Heisman Trophy at the downtown athletic.
Yeah, I managed to get invited. Like I had an extra ticket or somebody gave me a ticket. I went to the thing and I went to the bathroom and Bob Costas was in the next urinal and I was like 21.
So this was 1990 91. And I said, and I was peeing and I went, I'm a big fan of yours. And he told and he went, don't you know the rule? You're not supposed to talk when you're in the urinal. And I was like, Oh, I didn't. That's how I learned the rule. Anyway, I saw him at the Knicks game and I was, I never met him before, but since then, and I said to him, Hey, this Bobby Cannavale, I just wanted to introduce myself and say, when I was 21, I told him the story and he went, it doesn't sound like something they'd say. Shut me down.
Just please shoot down twice. He was also sitting on the toilet when you told him the second time. He was, he was, he was, he was, he was, yeah. He's like, so what did you shut the door dude?
I don't care that you have two Emmys. Shut the door chip. That gets me every time. Shut the door. Back on the Rich Eisen Show radio network. I'm sitting at the Rich Eisen Show desk, furnished by Grainger with supplies and solutions for every industry.
Grainger has the right product for you. Call clickrainger.com or just stop by. Fun chat with Matt Barnes right there. 844-204-RICH is the number to dial.
Brian in Wilmington, Delaware is on the program. What's up Brian? Hey Rich, good morning gentlemen. How are you doing? I'm well, thank you.
Rich, first of all, go blue. Same to you sir? It's, it's going to get better, but... Is it Brian? Brian is it?
I'm sorry sir, go ahead. Brian is it? Is it going to get better?
Is it? You know what? I think you said it before, it's cyclical. It comes back around. We've had our highs, we've had our lows, but you and I, we have scars.
We have scars by the name of Trouble with the Snap, Brady Hoke, Appalachian State. We'll get through this. Okay, thank you Brian. Well, through it. I mean, I'm dining on 2023 the rest of my life. I don't, I'm good. I'm absolutely good. We could have not even had this season, I'd be fine.
Okay, very good. But over reaction Monday on a Tuesday for you. Don't want to steal Chris's thunder, but owners should stop next in the first round. Right now we're paying them, on average, $20 million a year in the first round. Are we getting that kind of production out of them? Right now we're playing, we're paying Flacco and we're playing Dalton, four and a half and five million dollars respectively, and getting more production from them. Let these kids grow up. Draft them in the second and third round. Why are we drafting developmental players in the first round?
It doesn't make any sense to me. Well, here's the thing Brian, is you can get Jayden Daniels, I would say, is playing through the first four weeks of the season as a top five quarterback in the NFL. You also refer to him as a unicorn.
CJ Stroud is another unicorn, so I guess there's multiple ones. So, and that's what you're hoping for. That's what you're hoping for Brian, is you're hoping for Mahomes, you're hoping for Brady, you're hoping for Peyton Manning. Now Brady is somebody who was in the sixth round, and I appreciate the call Brian. You've brought something up, and thanks again Brian, call back, because we have discussed this on this show for multiple years, wondering who is going to be the first team to treat a drafted quarterback in their first contract going into their second like a running back? Who is going to be the one to say, we can go ahead and throw you back into the quarterback pool and draft another one, right? Because the running backs after five years, we'll get a younger version of it. Who's going to do that?
The problem is, is you have to start from scratch with somebody who may not know what they're doing. And in terms of quarterbacks now, it's not, we might've been off about this whole, who's going to go back into the draft for a quarterback. It's going to be, why are we paying the guy that hasn't really shown flashes? Why are we paying that guy generational money when we can go ahead and get somebody else's quarterback who used to be a top draft choice, who's now gone elsewhere and is truly now ready to be a leader of a franchise? We're now seeing that era of football insignificance, Jared Goff last night, Baker Mayfield in Tampa, Sam Darnold, who I'm seeing in London could be that guy. Even Geno Smith to a lesser extent.
Geno Smith last night, not lesser extent, 100%. He wasn't a first round pick, that's all. But he was a second rounder, which Drew Brees was too, by the way. So it is fascinating now, why pay the guy who has shown flashes on the upside an amount of money that does not allow you to get somebody like say, Derrick Henry, if you need him to run, why not go ahead and get somebody who's not as expensive and go for it that way?
That guy might be ready now. Flacco was a, he was a first round of drafted quarterback. It's so damn long ago.
I'm trying to remember. I think he was first round draft choice out of Delaware for Baltimore. First round, oh wait. And he not only won for the team that drafted him, but he's now coming back around as a gun for hire that is more valuable and playing at a higher level and can operate an offense much better than a rookie, obviously, like Anthony Richardson, who's apparently coming back in the mix. And certainly much better than, as it appears right now, the generationally enriched second contracted quarterbacks. I think, too, to Brian's point, teams draft quarterbacks in the first round, obviously because they need them, but also the fifth year of control now. Right. And you want to win in that first contract, like the Seahawks did with Russell Wilson, although he was a third rounder, like the Texans are hoping they're doing right now with CJ Stroud, like the Chiefs were able to do with Mahomes. That's the good stuff.
And then you now know that's the guy you're just going to pay forevermore. Exactly. And you can sit back and let everybody else try and figure out, like the Falcons totally reinvented the way you're doing totally reinvented the way you're doing it by getting the veteran and then drafting somebody in the first round. Which I still believe that's going to prove to be a smart play.
That's a long game that you're going to be paying attention to. Also, the caller was saying, why are we paying? We are actually not paying. Okay.
I think he's using the collective. It's an overreaction one down a Tuesday. People hit it, hit it. That was crap. That was garbage. This place sucks. Overreaction Mondays, Monday on a Tuesday. Very good. What do you got over there, Chris? All right.
I believe this might be the greatest ORM and a T ever. Okay. I have some very spicy. This is some.
And I'm looking forward to fantasy analysts nationally to pick them up. This is some big advance notice. Okay. What do you got? First up off of last night's game. Oh, first of everybody.
Good. All due respect, TJ, the lions are the new America's team. What is it? What's your metric?
How are you building this? My metric is everyone roots for them. Do you know anyone who doesn't like the lions? Everyone.
I don't know them. Everyone wants everyone's rooting for the lions. Everyone wants to see them go to the Superbowl. And everyone loves Dan Campbell. Dan Campbell has a perfect Q rating.
The lions have a perfect Q rating. Jared Goff goes from LA to the Midwest. It's opposite. You go from the Midwest to LA.
You don't go backwards. Everyone loves these guys. Everyone wants them to win the Superbowl. I think they are the new America's team. I don't know if they're everywhere around like America's team. I also envision they're everywhere, you know, when they're traveling and we'll see how they, I mean, they show up.
They're going to come out of the woodwork. I'll buy it. I'm partial to the state of Michigan. You know that.
I'll buy it for two reasons. One, because I'm partial to Michigan and two, it pisses TJ off. Oh, it doesn't piss me off because it's not real. You know what I mean? It's not real.
He's the king of I'm not pissed, but I'm pissed. The whole idea of the Cowboys being a married, that's been dead for a long time. We need to move on. What else? Okay. What's next? Well, that ain't it.
I'm telling you that right now. Sunday Night Football, what did we watch happen? We watched the Ravens run rampant. More specifically whom? Derrick Henry. Derrick Henry.
You guys ready? Yeah. Go ahead. Derrick Henry will be the last running back elected to the Hall of Fame. I agree with you.
I don't think that's an overreaction. Hold on a second. Hold on a second. Now you're not including running backs that deserve to be in that should get in like Frank Gore one day. Roger Craig will get in. No, I'm talking about guys who are active. Guys who get drafted from here on out. Right. Or current running backs in the NFL. Exactly.
Not talking about any old timer. By the way, just a little pushback here. I said two, three years ago, this guy was a Hall of Famer.
And I heard it from the right and the left in this room was two, three years ago. Okay. So I was calling my shot, but now you're agreeing with me.
He isn't going to the Hall of Fame. All right. Very good.
Thank you for that. He's the last one. Saquon might go on a nice run. I mean, he's going to have to have a seriously nice. McCaffrey's just got to have no tendonitis anymore. McCaffrey, I think is going to be one of those what if careers. I'm kind of taking a look at all the NFL running backs current. I mean, look, Richard, you're big on Jameer Gibbs. Will Jameer Gibbs have a great enough career?
These guys are going to get to ten, eleven, twelve thousand yards. This guy, this guy had to have a chance. Dude, this guy basically had to put a for hire sign out at age 30 because he's 30. Like why that?
And he was. And this is I understand what I'm saying when I say these words, only seven million a year. And that's the thing I don't understand with the valuation of running backs anymore.
How many teams would give their left you know what to have somebody be such a difference maker and all it is is seven million on the salary cap. But you hear it's a running back who's 30 like, oh, no, no, no, no. We can't have that.
We're not going to find space, but we can't afford that. Come on. And that's part of the reason why this guy may be the last running back elected to the Hall of Fame.
I'll just say that's an overreaction. Just thinking that there's going to have to be somebody who's incredibly special that overcomes the clear, insane bias on paying running backs and keeping them upright with their salary caps and all of that stuff, man. Every running back over 12,000 career yards is in the Hall of Fame or will get in the Hall of Fame. Most over 11,000 are in. Any running back is going to have that type of longevity. That's the metric.
Then obviously you're right. I'll just push back on this and say I'm close. I'm close to being with you. What else you got? Like a 300 game winner in baseball ain't happen again.
What else you got? For the first four weeks, one of the maybe the best quarterback in the NFL has been Jayden Daniels. I would agree. Jayden Daniels is better than any quarterback drafted in the 2020s. Give me the names where you're included in this front.
2020s. You're looking at that draft class specifically. That's Justin Herbert. That's Jalen Hurts. That's Joe Burrow. That's Tua. That's Jordan Love. After the fact, you're talking about C.J.
Stroud. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're talking about.
That's still an overreaction. You know how I've been talking about him of late too and I lone wolfed the commanders. I still can't. I know he just beat Burrow too.
I get it. It's four games. It's still four games. I gotta, I gotta, I gotta even pump the breaks on myself here. But you're not, you're not wrong. He's breaking NFL records after four weeks. Dude, you're not wrong.
You're not wrong. Two weeks was just, you know, you could see, you know, he was just coming straight out of the, out of the nest. He is learning how to fly. Now he's just, now he's taking off like a rocket ship. It's kind of like the, it's kind of like Succession. First couple episodes you're like wondering what's going on here. I see something there and then but, you know, then suddenly you're not serious people. But I'll just push back on that one too.
Well you're getting close to being perfect here. What else you got? What else? The guy, the guy Jayden Daniels beat a couple weeks ago. Joe Burrow. Gonna have the Bengals back in the playoffs this year. I, I don't think that's an overreaction.
Hey man. He's had a hundred passer rating or better. Three straight games. The defense needs to tighten the bolts a little bit here.
Yeah, big time. And I'm wondering if that win against Carolina was a get-right game or just them beating a lesser opponent in a way that they hadn't already this season. Maybe it's a big game against Baltimore.
Big at home. Gotta win it. They win that though. That's going to be, you know, two and three above the Ravens in the standings because the Ravens will be two and three and they'll have held their ground at home in division. Which is you have to do in order to actually win that division. They haven't played Pittsburgh yet. I'm not done with the Bengals. One and three is better than 0 and 4 though. This just in.
What else you got Chris? Two more. AFC West and NFC North. I think we could say those are the two best divisions in football right now. Well, they're, they're the only divisions without a sub-500 team with them. Correct. They're gonna have more combined playoff wins than the rest of the NFL.
Well, yeah. I understand what you're saying. That means a couple teams make it and a couple teams advance and one of them goes to the Super Bowl and if not both, yeah, they got the Super Bowl winner in their spot. I'll buy that.
I'll buy that. Because that would mean like the Bills or the Niners or whomever or the Seahawks or the Rams. Basically the one and done essentially. Right. The Bills or somebody like the Steelers or the Ravens go on a run. Yeah, I'll buy it. Or the, or the Texans can bust that one up.
Okay. Bucks or the Saints can bust that one up. But I, I will buy those eight teams over the other 24. Do you think those two divisions get both Super Bowl teams?
Right now it sure looks that way. That was my pre-season prediction. Vikings chief a 70s Super Bowl, right? No, it was Chiefs-Lions prior to the season. Thanks for watching. Thanks for watching this and my other show.
I'm saying Vikings right now. Sure, that's another one too. Good one.
Rich, I'm busy Sunday mornings. What else? Last one. Yeah. And this solves an issue that we talked about earlier in the show. The Rams and Dolphins should work out a trade for Matthew Stafford. Win-win. Both teams.
Why is that? Dude, the Rams have got to be sitting around saying. This is a lost season.
No. This is the season from hell. Half our team is hurt. Matthew's getting old. Let's do right by him. Let's send him to a team that can't compete where he wants to go.
Rich, you get older, you go to South Florida. You know this. The Dolphins, that solves their issue. No rush to bring Tua back this year. Rams can reload, get some draft picks. I see what you're saying. Fix 2025 and beyond.
Oh my God. Listen, I'm just trying to bring this segment and our podcast together. On the pod, you were saying the Chiefs should get Tyreek Hill back. By the way, they trade and they should do that and you notice that's getting picked up nationally now. Picked up nationally because Matthew Berry tweeted it.
And other people. Okay, very good. Listen, I'm just saying Kansas City and Tyreek Hill are not getting back together. That's not happening. In my opinion. Also, the Rams have got to be looking around and saying, damn, we almost came close in Chicago. Yeah, but they should be 0-4. Let's be honest. No, no, no. They could easily be 3-1. I'm sitting here. Listen, that game in Arizona was a lost cause.
Okay. They could have easily won that game on week, the first night, right? In Detroit. Bottom line is the coup is coming back. Cup's coming back. You got to figure your left side of the line's coming back. Just stay, stay with it. Stay with it. They're not trading Stafford. Get out of here.
That is an overreaction, sir. They lose to Green Bay this week, 1-4. Then what?
I don't know. So the best they'll go is 13-4. They're not trading Matthew Stafford. They should think about it.
They will not. I'm sorry. I just had to get the last word. Let's take a break here. When we come back, our favorite new Tuesday tradition. In fact, that was it.
Nope. Mike Tomlin being asked about his quarterback situation. That's next. This is the Rich Eisen Show before Chris Collins-worth joins us top of the next hour. Let's talk about game time tickets, people.

H-E-L-P dot com slash Rich Eisen. Baseball. Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep. No, no, no, no.
That's a reference to the Untouchables. It's been very, very good. Baseball. Anyway, four games, four playoff baseball games today. Starting in 45 minutes.
One particular lineup note to pass along of interest to me, Kansas City Royals tweeted this out. Did you see this? I did. Sasquatch. Oh, we love it.
With the baseball bat. Well, you didn't meet him in Kansas City, Mike. You didn't come with us because you left us alone. Because you had to work the faders for the Chicago White Sox's 105th loss of the season.
Kansas City games this year. I know all about it. Vinny Pasquantino, our buddy, who we met in Kansas City. He was in his cast, right?
Yeah. Look who's batting third behind Bobby Wood Jr. and in front of Salvy Perez. What a great name. Vinny. That's a great name. Vinny Pasquantino.
All right, let's go. Love it. Vinny P. There he is. I remember I asked him how the thumb was, and he was like, well. He's so, he's so damn funny. Yeah.
So damn funny. I gotta, he was texting me over the weekend about the Jets. Not happy. He said he's close to getting guillotined. I gotta figure out if, I don't know if, isn't, would that be amazing? His fantasy team gets guillotined, but then he's back in the lineup, like, one day later.
I gotta wonder, like, are those two things related? Guillotine leagues are intense, man. I'm not, I've never been in one. It's become a thing, like, the last couple of years. And again, the team that gets guillotined, all the players go back in the pool. Yeah, and whoever's left, you know, each week someone drops, and whoever's left gets to bid on it.
It's just like an all-star team versus an all-star team. Pretty much, yeah. Huh. I like it. It's fun. So the Sasquatch is back. Let's go. One of our faves.
He's back in the mix. Game time tickets. Put the app on your mobile device and start buying tickets to anything in your area. We use it.
You should as well. We love telling you about it. It is the presenting sponsor of Over Reaction Monday, our pod. It's been part of the Rich Eisen show for well over a year now. So, the last few weeks in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mike Tomlin has taken to his podium and has been asked, you know, who the quarterback's going to be. And Justin Fields is your starter, and Tomlin would say the reason why it's not even a discussion or even a decision for him to make is that Russell Wilson is not available to practice fully. He's not available to do this, that, the other thing. And until he is, there's no reason to have this conversation, folks. Let's move on. It's essentially the gist, right, of everything?
Very much. So, now Justin Fields loses his first game. So, now does that make it more interesting? Or the fact that they lost that game is basically because the defense suddenly had its worst Sunday of the year, and Fields did something that only eight other quarterbacks had ever done before. Throw for 300 yards, have two rushing touchdowns, 50 yards on the ground, and throw one in as well. Steve Young did it twice. So, Justin Fields is in Steve Young territory. So, now in order to find out, I guess, how you're going to approach this, I guess the way to approach it now is just to ask if Russell Wilson's healthy.
Because it seems like that's the approach now. Is that, did I get this right? Is that the way we're setting this soundbite up right here from Pittsburgh?
I can't give you all the ingredients to the hot dog you might not like. Okay, so here's here's a soundbite from today. He's in a place where his participation is going to pick up some in terms of a practice setting, a live pocket, if you will. We won't draw too many conclusions, but we'll just start that process. Does that mean that as you say you're preparing for Justin to start on Sunday?
Yes, I am. There you go. Okay. Justin's the starter Sunday. Let me tell you what Justin's going to be the starter. Sunday. Let's put up a schedule. Sunday after that.
Let's put up a schedule. Sunday night on NBC, you'll see Justin Fields. And then in Vegas on Sunday, if Justin stays healthy, you will see him there. And then there's a Sunday night again, this time back in Pittsburgh for the Jets. If Justin Fields is healthy, he'll be the starter then. He'll be there. And then there's a Monday night prime time game. Three of the next four under the lights.
All right. Justin Fields, if he's healthy, he'll be the starter there. Then there's a bye week. You know what Justin Fields will be doing? Preparing to start at Washington in week 10.
I say this with no sense other than he's earned it. This has nothing to do with Russ, who I hope to see as a starting quarterback in this league. And if he is for the Steelers this year, Fields will either have to be hurt or go through so many weeks of regressed play that there'll be no choice but to do it. But I'm not seeing that regressed play.
I'm just seeing more and more improvement. And you heard Chris Long say in hour one that he would love to see the Steelers lean on Fields' running and dual threat ability when they're up. Not when they're down and say, oh, S, the best way we can get these points on the board is to unleash Justin Fields a little bit here is let him do that in advance. And now you're up.
Why not? And I don't know if he's still learning the playbook, but he's had now a full month plus. He was basically the guy for the last couple of preseason weeks too.
He's been snapping with the ones for a month and a half now. George Pickens had a heck of a game. Man, if he just didn't put that ball on the ground and have it punched out in the bottom. He would probably win that game, right? I think so.
I think they're 4-0. And I think you're in trouble Sunday night, sir. And this is not a troll job. It is not. It is not. Well, it's hard to distinguish when it is, and it is coming from you. I'll give you that. Ah, fair. Guilty.
Like how's anyone supposed to really know? Guilty is charged. I think the Steelers are going to have a nice bounce back. It's going to be a fun game, man.
I mean, they picked up K.J. Henry from the Bengals practice squad. Hoping to get some pass rush going on here.
Because no tank, no... What a shame, man. I would love to have seen, you know, the lion back in the state of Pennsylvania against the Steelers. I would have loved to have seen Micah in this game. Got to get right, though. We got to find someone who's going to run it against this front of the Steelers. I don't know if you got that guy. But Justin Fields is going to be the starter, folks.
This just in. Certainly on Sunday night. Chris Collins worth coming up about that game and more.
Still here on the Roku Sports Channel. Anybody else that you're a fan of baseball-wise that visited our show that you feel like you own because you've worked a fader for that game? I've probably mixed the game for every playoff team this year.
Okay. And that's pretty good. So what's your record? Like, can we determine who's going to win the World Series based on how well they did on the game that you worked the faders for?
Well, Toni hit two home runs on one of the games I did for him. Judge hit... No, do you keep a, like, a calendar of who you are? Because I'm going to write a book one day.
And when I write the book, it'll be like... Can we get that log and, I mean, legitimately... Hold on a second. Time out. Time. I have so many questions.
No, no, no. I do. Real quick. When I write the book... Forget about the book.
Forget about the book for a second. I understand that that caused your tires to screech. I get it. All right.
You hit the brakes. But if you have a book of the games that you worked this year, can we get that log and figure out win-loss and determine who wins the World Series based on the win-loss of the games you helped fade for them? That book is sealed. What do you mean it's sealed? This guy ain't got no book, man. This guy ain't got no book, man. He ain't got no book. You know what I mean?
You know what I mean? It makes it seem like there is no book. Because I have done so many big events that I would...
The book would be like this big. So you admit you don't have a book. So I'm done.
I don't even do it anymore. So do you or don't you have a book? I keep a log of good games I use. And I also get a copy. And you said there's a book to help you write a book, and there's no book either way. And I also get a copy of all my games.
I get a copy of all my games. I love when I ask questions I don't know the answer to the Mike D'Artuffo. Bombas makes the most comfortable socks, underwear, and t-shirts. Warning, Bombas are so absurdly comfortable you may throw out all your other clothes.
