Well, that's what it's all about: personal accolades. There is no I in Joe or Buck. No, that's true. Or Jack or Buck or nepotism. Oh, wait, there is.
Come on, man. No, it's been a nice run. I'm no longer the thank you. I'm no longer the. 27-year-old doing the World Series.
I'm the old man now. I've got a gray beard. I've got dyed hair. I've got hair transplanted to the top of my head. Yes, sir.
But I'm in two halls of fame.
So, hey, you know, yay me. Dude, what were you thinking here? I mean, by the way, listen: the Pro Football Hall of Fame, you're already in there. This one. I mean, you're in a meadow right there in Cooperstown.
What's going through your head, dude? Like, as you're looking out here on, on this happened this past weekend, if I'm not mistaken. That is the look of a man who just said, Oh my God, I can't believe they didn't boo me. Yeah, I, you know, it's funny. It was a really heartwarming weekend.
And To stand up on that stage and to look out at those people that are there because they love baseball. You know, everybody's got their group.
So you had the Beltron group and you had the Yeah, I'd thrown my tie.
Somebody in the parade route said, Where's the candy? You're supposed to be throwing candy.
So I threw him my tie. Are you serious? Is that what happened? Yeah. Yeah.
Dude. Yeah. Look good. The good thing is, I bought the tie off Instagram, and within like an hour, the thing was filtered back at me.
So I bought it back.
So the fun thing was. You know, being there in 1987 with my mom and my sister sitting in the crowd when my dad got this award. And then to flash forward 39 years, and my mom and my sister are in the crowd. With my kids, both my older daughters and my little boys, and Michelle. And it was so fun.
And Cooperstown is just an amazing place. that it feels stuck in time in the best possible way. And for us to all be there together, my son-in-law. Uh, you know, my sister's family. It was just great.
So it was a lot of fun. It's so deserved, brother. I'm so happy for you. That's it.
Well, that's when you and I first met. That's right. Back during the World Series in 96, was it not? Yep, 96. That's when it was.
You were doing your first World Series, I was doing Sports Center and. It's so cool. And I'm just happy for you. You deserve it. You deserve it.
Even though, didn't you, once upon a time take a steroid to get through a broadcast, though? Like with your voice? I did, but I think you still got in. I did. I am on the list.
I was on the list. I took, yeah, I did. I got a shot. I got up off the deck. It was in Philly for an NFC championship game.
I think it was an Eagles Panthers game. And I woke up. I could not talk. I couldn't make a sound. I went to an ENT genius in Philly.
The guy gave me a steroid injection. I don't know what kind of steroid that is. Whatever it was, I'm a big fan. I could talk by 7 p.m. that night.
But it's on your plaque, so at least everyone knows about it now, right? There's an asterisk on it. Yeah, exactly. Took steroid once. Yes.
Oh, my gosh. ESPN Jeopardy, baby. Here we go. Real quick: the exclamation point in Jeopardy is silent. Correct, Joe?
Right? Or do you not to me? Not to me. I shout it from the mountaintops, I've been doing it all week. It's a fun show.
The cool thing is, and I kind of stumped for this, was to get, you know, like guys like John Hamm on it, Keegan Michael Key. Uh, Adam Pauley mixing in with sports center people and NFL network people, and where were you, Rich, when I needed you most? Uh, but it. It's a fun, you know, the good thing, I got to do a week when Alex Trebek passed away, and it is the same process. It's the same writers who turn their brilliant minds to sports.
The clues are written the same way, kind of convoluted, trying to trip you up a little bit. But it is all sports, and some fared really well, some surprised, some fared not so well, but laughed their way through it. And it's just 10 episodes of a really fun. Jeopardy Show, all about sports. Look at that shot right there, man.
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And I like that shot. Send me that.
Yeah. Well, we got you. I got you. I'll be able to. Yeah.
I got you. Just texted to me. I got in a screensaver. We got the assets for you. Don't worry.
We'll send it to you. All right. Thank you. How is Ham? Any good?
I don't know what I'm allowed to say, but I will say Yeah, I will say that John Hamm represented himself. extremely well. Extremely well. I would imagine Ham would take this very seriously. Like he would want to come and dominate.
Like that, I would see that.
Well, you know, John, and I've known John since we were in middle school. That's true, right? Middle school? Middle school. Yeah, well, like late middle school into high school.
So. Crazy, crazy story. My best friend in high school, Preston Clark, his little sister, Sarah. Who is an actor in her own right? She was on 24, she was in the Twilight movies.
I just saw her on a CBS show. Uh this week.
So she's still working and doing great and makes us all proud. But in middle school, high school, she dated John Hamm. And in college, she had dated Paul Rudd.
So that's how I know Rudd. Uh, and there's a young John Hamm. There's my guy, and uh, but John back then was the guy that everybody wanted on their trivial pursuit team. Oh, he is his recollection, his retention, he is a genius. He's extremely smart.
He knows sports. He was the perfect. Contestant for that show. And I will say again, and I will underline it and highlight it, he does extremely well. Wow.
Okay. Ken Jennings meets Don Draper. Basically, is what you're saying right there. That's what it is. That's what I'm trying to pick up what you're putting down right here.
Yeah. That's cool. That's very good. And that's on Disney Plus and Disney Plus, Hulu, ESPN app. Of course.
And hopefully, if it does well, We do more and it, you know, we continue, but we'll see. I don't know. It's up to you, the viewing public. Why wouldn't it do all that? Same people that missed the first hour, two hours of your show that you berated when we came on here at the top of the hour.
It's up to them to watch this thing so that we get to do more. And then I would imagine it would evolve into just, you know, very smart people about sports, not. Sports Center anchors or John Ham to be contestants going forward, I would think. I would think too. By the way, perfect way to put it, Disney Plus, who lose ESPN Jeopardy.
When do you when do you go back to work? for a living. I don't know. I get to come out of my semi-retirement, my coma that I've been in for the last X number of months. This is it, man, because it ends in the booth for the Super Bowl right here, just up the road, Joe.
It's this is it. I read this morning. I read this morning. ESPN ABC has the Super Bowl this year. Yes.
I made a note of it. I wrote it down. I thought you would lead off with that because that's breaking news. But we. We yeah, which is a great place to have it, as you know.
That stadium is amazing. The booth is great. The booth has a bathroom within it, which is always paramount and something I worry about anytime I'm doing a big event. It checks all the boxes. And I think it's going to be a great year.
It's going to be a lot of fun. The answer is August 20th. We have a preseason game. It's in Houston, and I'm not 100% sure who they play. No.
Joan, not to correct you, but the answer is when is August? When is August 20th in Houston? Who do they play? I mean, if the answer is, it's got to be in the form of a question, Joe. Otherwise, I'm not going to be able to accept the answer.
Well, only in double jeopardy. And in regular Jeopardy, we accept that. I admonish them. In double jeopardy, that's a no-go. And this show is an hour long, so there's triple jeopardy.
Also, you have to do it in the form of a question, or I just sit there, and if your time runs out, your time runs out. I guess the answer is: what is Raiders against Texas? There it is. That's your answer. There it is, my man.
Fernando, all of us eye you guys. I hope he plays a whole damn game. God, how much do you love Kurt Signetti, Joe? I mean, what a blessing. He is a beauty in every possible way.
Have you met him? Have you chatted with him? I've met him. Yeah, I don't want to rub this one in, but it was not this past season, but the one before I went to the Michigan game at IU. That's all right.
Which, I mean, you know, it doesn't matter. Michigan, whoever, to see that stadium jammed. And to meet him on the field beforehand. And he walked me through kind of exactly what happened was going to happen in the game, and it happened. I am blown away.
And I feel like he's just a really unique guy. I feel like he's got a little bit of a wry smile on his face with everything he does. And I've never seen a man. stand on a sideline the way he does with his hands on his hips and his hands Out. It's just the most unique look by it.
That's kind of it. There it is. By any head coach in any sport. But I love him and thank God he's at IU. No doubt, right?
I mean, just what a dream come true. You couldn't have imagined, right? No way. I mean, it's like, okay, we got another guy, and we're going to do it again. And then he went to an IU basketball game, and he.
You know, said Purdue sucks and everybody else sucks. And I was like, okay, it's all bluster. And then he backed it up. I mean, the team was really good. Two seasons ago, and then obviously did what they did last year.
So Yeah, am I a bandwagon guy? Kind of, but when I was there. And I was there for almost four full years. I left when I got the Cardinal gig. I was a season ticket holder.
We were good. We had Trent Green, we had Anthony Thompson. Bill Mallory was our head coach. It was a good program then. And then, kind of, hit the skids and I would pay attention a little bit.
Uh, but you know, now that that Signetti's there, I'm like all in. And your Jeopardy paycheck paid for which wide receiver this fall, Joe, which wide receiver. Yeah, I funneled everything I got from ESPN Jeopardy. Yeah, I funneled right into player procurement at Indiana University. Yes, roster retention.
That's what Joe Buck's all about, guys. Again, we already established he's a team player. Yep, we already established to start this game. Exactly. Yeah.
And the first Monday night game. Oh, Mahomes. It's a good one. Mahomes is in 11-on-11 drills already and like hopping around with a knee brace on his leg. And, you know, please have Mr.
Nicks on the other side with his ankle and all that stuff going on.
So it was a bit of a, you know, that's a heck of a matchup to come out of the gate with, provided both quarterbacks are there. And look at those two Rams logos in the first five weeks. We're going to start a new segment here on the show called Is He Back Yet? And that's gonna that's that's number 99 in your program. I think he's coming back.
Seems like it. I mean, you know more than I do. You cover this stuff every day, but if he wasn't coming back. It's a lot of noise, a lot of photo ops, pads. And we've watched it, at least I have on Instagram or wherever I've seen it, watched them work out over the past couple of years.
I mean, he is just a freak and he and. Miles Garrett, and then a revamp secondary. With Chris Shula putting it all together, I mean, they are going to be... Phenomenal, and then of course that week three in Chicago, um, that's going to be a big one for all of us to see if Caleb meets with you before the game. Joe, what do you think?
Yeah, I'm on the edge so much.
So, I'm on the edge. Me too. I'm so worried about that. Uh, yeah, so that's a good game. move on.
And then we got Dallas at Philly not too far after that, which is that's just a game we haven't had. I I had every year at Fox, and we haven't had that game Until this year five at Monday Night Football and ESPN.
So that's a big one for us to get. I honestly thought, speaking of the Bears, that game on November 2nd, Bears at Seahawks, I thought that was going to be the opener. I really thought the league would put that as game number one for. for the banner raise, you know, but Yeah, it's a good game. It's a great game.
And then we've we've got Dallas. I think we have Dallas at Seattle. You do.
So we've got two great Dallas games, both on the road and both against. you know, playoff quality teams. By the way, this is historic. Our little visit here because this is the first time that I've done any interview in what is my new office for the next year and a half in a rented house in Denver, Colorado. Oh, oh.
That's why it's kind of barren back there. This is our first day. Michelle's in the other room. Harum thing and cursing my thing because it's because it's just boxes that are filing in, and I'm in here talking to you.
So if it's okay. I'd like to be on for the rest of the show and tomorrow's show, and I'll sit here and I'll just wait until you come back. I have follow-up questions. I have follow-up questions. So, is that lamp a rented lamp?

So, I mean, just ultimately stick the landing. It would have been amazing if the prom, she went to the prom with John Hamm or Paul Rudd. That would just close the entire series. No, he was a taken man at that point with Sarah Clark. That would not have worked.
That would have been terrible. Does Michelle want to hop on here? Does she want to pop in? Do you want to? Hey, meatloaf.
Right. Ah. You know Michelle far too well to know that that would get me punched in the side of the head. Yeah, no. Suze is in the other room.

That's what you want to do when you've got. A Talented quarterback or one that you think is talented. What happens next? You gotta build around them. What have they done?

who can take a a hand off. from somebody else's 30-yard line and and get in or your own 30-yard line and get in. This guy can do it. But What if he's the only weapon that's really there that can really scare anybody? What happens next?
I mean, they got some speed, Malik Washington, 2-2 Atwell, who folks around here in Los Angeles know all about. The offensive line, can they protect? Can they blow open holes? Can Devin A. Chant be the guy?

If I'm going to ask this question of all other first-year head coaches, first-time head coaches, I'm going to ask it again, even though I think the answer is yes, because I have really enjoyed chatting with Jeff Hafley on this program or whenever I've been around him. I think he's emotionally brilliant. Same, it's similar to your coach in Dallas.
I think he knows what makes a player tick. I think he has been smart about his career where it's just like, okay, I'm a head coach in college, but I'm going to go leave this world of the NIL and roster retention and whatever and be a DC in Green Bay. And now it's paid off. He's the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Is he ready for primetime?
I think he is, but obviously, what's going to happen when it's time to challenge in the third quarter, fourth quarter? Those sorts of moments. decision making, what's going down? That's third down. It's time for fourth time.
Now again, the roster. The draft choices. You know, did they take anybody that'll knock your socks off because you recognize their name? No. You look at their team.
I mean Outside of H-Han, who are you gonna draft in your fantasy, right? Like, so the names aren't there. Yeah. The names aren't there. But Their general manager and their coach have come from Green Bay, where there's always not a lot of great names, right?
But the collective is a winner. And so You know, you're wondering who they are and what they're doing.
