Okay. The it being. Talking about football, national league football, 2026 season, training camps, questions abound. I don't know what's on the piece of paper, as always. It is time to hit it.
Go for it. That was terrible. That was crap. That was garbage. This place sucks.
Overreaction. Mondays. Monday. All right, Chris Brockman. Just a few things to ruminate on before we get to full-on training kof overreactions here in a couple weeks.
Okay. All right.
So World Cup final on Sunday. Is that how we're starting? Yeah. International football. Yeah, for sure.
Here's what I'm thinking. And I want, just hear me out before you snap judge. React, sure. The NFL should follow the World Cup lead and have a third-place game during Super Bowl off week. That would be the dumbest thing.
Right. I could ever comprehend. Want to hear me out first? Here's my case. I will bullet point cases.
You have bullet points. Yeah. Okay. Okay. So again, you're saying on the Sunday of the bye week.
Yeah. Where there's nothing going on, and all I want is football. Last year, last year. You're going to tell the Rams and the Broncos and the Broncos. Let's play a game.
Yeah, I want to see Jared Stidham against Stetson Bennett, right? No. You're going to force the Rams to put a near 40-year-old Matthew Stafford out there. I'm not going to force.
So then, what's the insane? Here's my bullet points, and they will want to play.
Okay. Rich Eisen. Gambling is a part of the NF of our sports world. That is the worst place you could have started your bullet point. I don't think so.
The league has multiple partners. Do you know how much money is bet on the average NFL playoff game?
Okay, so keep going. $80 to $130 million on average.
So you're giving everyone out there another game to gamble on. Let's give the players a cut of the handle. Oh, so let's just say 10%. It could be more. You could negotiate that.
Okay. 10%, that's an extra $150,000 to $250,000 per player on the 53. Who doesn't want an extra quarter mil? That's right. And if the Eagles are playing, we get Big Dom, the collective Vig.
What are you thinking? What are you talking about? What are you talking about? Hold on. Hold on.
Okay, look. Give the winner of the game the 19th overall pick in the first round. Make it incentive for the front office to play this game. The 19th overall pick? Yeah, the first, the first, the best pick of the playoffs.
You have many bullet points. I do. Look. It's you got incentivized for the players to play because you do it with money. Money always talks, right?
What did Smokey Don say? The answer to all your problems is more money, right? You make the make it. Incentivize for the front office to play. You give them a higher draft pick if they win the game.
The league cashes in because it's another window of football where there's nothing going on that week. How many bullet points do you have left? That's it. It's a win for everyone involved. Yeah, but the whole idea of like, hey, people will gamble on it.
So let's give a cut to the players and let's give a middle first-round draft choice, not even. To a team. You don't think the league wants to sell that game to a streamer? Do you think the owner of the franchise that's got the 19th overall pick would say, oh, yeah, I'll give up my draft choice to the third person. No, you just move everyone down.
I know, but so that means somebody gets to have a better pick? Than me. They're getting a cut of the revenue that the league sells the game to a streamer. Dude, I understand you're talking about more money is more money for everybody. The league wants an 18th game anyway.
What's another playoff? Would you even watch it? The Sunday between the region weekend and the Super Bowl for starving for football. I got it, but for what, though? For just to finish.
It's kind of like a play-in game without that you don't play in anything. I haven't seen the ratings yet, but I imagine the third-place World Cup game did monster ratings. It's a. Listen, I understand what you're saying about ratings and money. At the end of the day, you know, um unless you're playing against Paraguay or Argentino and they're pissed off, the the possibility of getting hurt in a third place game in the World Cup isn't even close to getting hurt in a third place game in the National Football League.
So the Rams have a gutting loss to the Seahawks. You gotta go back to your facility and go through one more week of football. You got to go through one more week of football just to take on the Broncos and Jared stid him. I mean, you wanted, who in the world was saying after that Broncos lost the Patriots, you know what? I want to see more Broncos football with the second.
I mean, we're taking the absolute worst case scenario. I'm taking your scenario and putting it into the reality of what last year would have been. I don't think it's a sell. You couldn't sell that to anybody in the NFL. I thought you'd go on the fact that the NFL should put grass on there on all fields.
We've done that topic already. No, I know that. I thought you were going to go there in terms of, or something VAR-related with the NFL. Who doesn't want more football? I got it.
What a flat-out overreaction to start. But I appreciate the bullet points and the preparation. What did you guys? Just coming with ideas. Got it.

I'm interested in, but not that.
Okay, fine. All right.
This is one I think you are interested in. And I think it's a matter of when Aaron Donald comes back to the Rams, not if at this point. I think so too, buddy. I think so too. And the only thing I go what I'm hearing back and forth on is whether he's full season or half a season.
Right. You know, whether he's just gonna say, all right. If I'm back, I'm back, and I'm coming in for the whole thing because that's the only way I know how to do things 701 speed, right? As opposed to Willie or Woni wandering this whole thing. Toe in, toe.
Right, toe in, toe. Again, if he's ready to, he's ready now. I mean, The only thing that he doesn't... have the uh readiness for one would think is Just the the general uh feel for playing a full game But that is even a Off the reservation supposition. You know what I mean?
Like, I can't, I'm like, I'm like grasping at straws as to how he's not ready. That's what I'm saying. You know what I mean? I'm trying to think the other side of the coin here.
Well, it's been two years, so maybe he doesn't have the three, four, five. He's missed three seasons. Yeah. I think. Does he have the stamina to play a full game?
But I mean I'm not. You're going to question this guy's. I'm not. I'm just saying that's what I'm saying. The whole thing is like, if you're questioning anything about Aaron Donald, you're going to question the following.
If you're going to question anybody coming back from this long of a break, you're questioning their stamina, you're questioning their conditioning, you're questioning their mental readiness and their desire. How do you question any of those four things about Aaron Donald? You simply can't.
So it's really, it's just really, does he want to do it, which is in the desire bucket. Yeah, I saw someone point out there there's only a handful of guys left uh on the Rams when he last played.
So it's not like he's super familiar with a lot of the guys in the locker room. Um so maybe that would be a factor into not coming back. Did you see Miles Garrett On Micah Parsons' podcast at Fanatics Fest over this past week. A lot of buzzwords in that sentence. Yeah, I mean, Micah Parsons was doing his usual Micah thing of talking with his chest and being filled with bravado and reminding Miles of just what Micah's accomplished in his first few seasons, which is.
you know, a Hall of Fame start, right? Without his um Unavailability due to his knee injury, right? Or his back being balky at the beginning of last season, if you recall, through all of that craziness between Dallas and Green Bay. And him basically saying, you know, um that he's coming for Miles's record. And Miles basically told him, you know, it's still my time.
That's what he told him. I'm not God. And he basically said that he could break it again this year. Yeah, buddy. And I just kept sitting there thinking, that's right.
He's on the rams. That guy That we saw. at the Super Bowl in New Orleans a couple of Super Bowls ago. Where he was like, I don't want to play for the Browns anymore, and I am done. And he looked flat-out miserable.
He is just Like everything's coming up roses. The sky is blue. The wine tastes better. The food tastes better. I can't imagine what he's going to Be like playing with a lead and playing under these circumstances after his entire First part of his career And why wouldn't Aaron Donner want to do that if he still has desires to play?
Right. So I'm with you here. I don't think this is an overreaction at all. What else you got?
Okay, Rich. A lot of talk about we're going to talk a bunch about quarterbacks coming up. A lot of talks about quarters. A lot of talks about one guy in particular, about how he needs to prove it. And should the team give him an extension?
And it's like, okay, I get it with CJ Stroud, but we're not talking about this other guy. Jaden Daniels is facing a bigger make-or-break season this year than C.J. Stroud. I don't think it's make or break. Um Well, Stroud's up for a contract earlier than that, and we'll see.
if um between this very moment where we're talking into this microphone, or the the first week of the season if Stroud gets his contract. Um the the question for Jaden Daniels this season is Um week one of last year, week two of last year. Was he beginning to already start trending in a downward direction? Is it even fair to think about that? He played five games last year, only played well and really in one of them.
And they lost that game. Everything for the Commanders. Two years ago, five years ago. Fell apart last year. I mean, name me.
Um I understand I'm throwing a dart here. Name me one thing. that they did well in their NFC championship game run. season of two years ago that Happened again last year. Yeah.
I mean, right, not even Quinn, not even the coordinators, not even, I mean, I mean, it started with the Terry McCorn and the whole holdout. Was he going to get traded? Oh, not. Then he gets injured. All of it.
So how much of that can you lay at the? feet of Jaden Daniels. Um And that's the debate. Right now. Then we see games, you know, and then you look at the Washington Commanders.
Schedule. It's first up at Philadelphia. I mean, and then and then at Dallas, and then home for Seattle.
So, the first three weeks, we're going to find out. Yeah, they got to steal one of those. And it's interesting you say steel. They're not going to be favored in any of them. We're not expecting them to probably win any of those games, right?
They then play a home game. In um in London. And then they've got um The Giants, they've got at San Francisco on a Monday night, then a bye week before they play Philadelphia again at home, and then the Rams at home. That's the first half of their season. Oh, that's tough.
So, what you're saying about make or break, I don't, when you say break, that means like we're done with Jaden Daniels. I'm not saying that, but I'm saying there could be a CJ Stroud-level conversation surrounding Jaden Daniels after his third year where it's like, okay, you got the one run, and then now what? That's again, the CJ Stroud-level conversation that you're referring to does not apparently raise above the level of. Shows like Overreaction Monday and First Hake and our show, where we're talking about it. I don't believe inside the Texans.
Facility, they're like, this guy's not our future quarterback. It just depends what number we're comfortable. at coming to um Coming to with Stroud. Yeah, but it's not a snap call yes on extension. It's like let's think about it first.
No, I think it is. Where they're thinking about the dollar value and how many years do we want to do it? No, I bet you sodium pentothal to Nick Casario. And you know. the owners of the, you know, the McNair family.
That by the way, we send our condolences to the McNair family. on the loss of the matriarch. They're um They were absolutely CJ Straw people. I I I'd be surprised otherwise. But does he get a contract extension now?
I don't know. Does Dayton Daniels put himself in that boat with a very difficult season? Uh I don't know. Good questions all around. What else you got over there, Chris?
Okay, Rich, last week we talked to Jeremy Fowler about the list, the top 10 lists that he's been compiling for all positions. But quarterback specifically was kind of the focus. Here you see the top 10. It's Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow Lamar. Yes.
And then, you know, Dak, Herbert, May, Goff, Caleb Williams. Right. Someone from six through 10 on this list is going to win a Super Bowl before one through five. Oh, great cor great one, Chris. I think that's an overreaction.
I think somebody from one through five wins it this year. Oh, wow. How about that? Uh don't ask me which one. Which one?
The good one. Is it a repeat winner or a new winner? I would go repeat winner.
So either the Chiefs or Rams are winning this. I don't know. You're putting me, you're making me.
Well, you said things, and I'm spotting it. I'd go number three again. But that's the low-hanging fruit that everybody thinks that Stafford and the Rams are going to win it all this year. Um 6 through 10 would be fun.
Well, it certainly would be. You know, and just, I don't know, do you have a Dallas subject? I do. Okay, great.
So I'll hold my Dallas conversation for later on. Um And I know you feel Drake May is going to be one of them right. Obviously, he's great. But great one. I don't think this is an overreaction.
I don't. Anything can happen. Anything is possible in this league. Crazier things have happened. Yada, yada, and yada.
I can't sit here and say, no way, you're crazy, you're out of the realm. You're you're you're absolutely it's entirely possible that Dak or Herbert or May. You know, or Goff or Caleb Williams. I'm not even saying this year, I'm just saying, no, I know, yeah, but I decided to just answer you. I know that was great, and then one-up you.
Because I can't help myself. I mean, Sam Darnold, not in the top 10. Seattle 1, nobody saw that coming heading into last year. We've reached halftime of this program, which means it's time to bring out Madonna. Here she is.
Wait a minute. No, that was the World Cup. My bad. Del Tufo. How about Madonna performing for But wh when she first got big.
Maragono was performing for Argentina. Did you see where I went? Lucky. And by the way, so were the Muppets. Puppets were big too when Maradona was playing.

Second half, here we go. More quarterback talk, Rich. A lot of these quarterback battles, competitions that we're going to have coming up in training camp. How about this? The loser of one of these QB battles.
is going to get traded before week one. The loser of one of these QB battles. Which QB battles again? You know, it's, you know, Kyler Murray versus J.J. McCarthy, Shador and Deshaun, whatever's going on in Arizona.
The only way this happens is a, what, Sam Bradford type moment. You know, that requires that acquisition because Teddy Bridgewater of whomever. Has a catastrophic injury. You know what I'm saying? In the preseason?
Yeah. Yeah, that's the only one. Why would the Vikings trade J.J. McCarthy going into the season? Why would Michael Pennix get traded?
Why would Shador get traded? I understand what a high draft pick is, but there, but for the grace of the football gods, go anybody that you're one snap away. Why would you trade away any second-string quarterback in this league these days when the third string quarterback more than likely is going to end up playing anyway? You know, for your team. I wouldn't do it.
If I'm an owner of a team, I'd look at the general manager and go, Are you out of your mind? Are you Have you lost it? Because we we need this player for four to six. We need to stay afloat. We we hope that this player is going to be good enough to keep us afloat four to six.
during the season. But n no, yeah, I'll just call this an overreaction unless It's injury related. None of these guys are going to be on the move. None of them. What else?
Fernando Mendoza is so good, and someone's like, oh, we'll take Kirker Cousins for a third. Not a chance. Not a chance. Because then he goes down, and then what? Then what?
What are you going to do? I guess you've got Aiden O'Connell. I don't I don't think so.
Okay. Plus, Kirk's contract is. Significant. Just turn it up. As always.
Just turn it. I mean, that's not, that's the whole reason. You see what his contract did. It's not like, hey, here's $5 million. You're a backup sum.
What else you got?

After the Scataboo backflip at Fanatics Fest, Giants fans should be very nervous about 2026. That is a great topic bar for overreaction because that is the ultimate overreaction. Whoa, what was he doing? I don't know what he was doing. He was showing off his leg and see what I can do.
If you are going to attempt something like that, you better be damn 100% sure that you are going to stick the landing like Simone Biles.
Well, I think he did stick the landing. I think it was just the surface. He slipped on it. Yeah, no, no, I I I The neat thing is that he does look like he's physically able to do that. I can't guess.
But what it does call into question again is Jackson Dart Will he protect himself on the field? Cam Scatabu. Is he going to make sure that he is, in fact, ready to roll and completely healthy? It's the question of the leader of the team. quarterback.
And his sidekick, the tango and cash of the New York Giants, as we like to say. The two of them are very brash, they're very young, they're very good, and you're very excited. but it's their decision making. That's a question. And one would think John Harbaugh.
Would be able to step in and make sure they make the right decisions. Who showed John Harbaugh that video over the weekend? Great question. Whoever showed John Harbaugh that video would have to start by saying, the headline is he's okay. The good news is the headline.
He's totally fine. But who's fine? What? But, and then you show.
Okay. I mean, dude, do you think for any second over the weekend, Harbaugh was like, What am I doing? Why did I do this? No, no, no, no, no. He's not second-guessing.
Why did I become the coach of the New York Giants? Not at all.
Okay. Not at all.
I think I would have known. Just a split second. But he has to sit there and go: what is this kid's malfunction? And then be able to just say, okay, how can we channel that wildness and that wild side into a rep. You know, into a carry.
You know what I mean? Like, that's his challenge. Tyrone Tracy just perked up. He's like, I don't think you could sit here writ large and say the Giants season is going to stay because definitely a big blue heart and a big blue throat. No doubt about that for sure.
All right, let's stay in the NFC East, Rich. Dak was talking over the weekend, said it's always Super Bowl robust for the Cowboys, right? When you're at the Dallas Cowboys, you know, anything less than that final Sunday is a disappointment. But, you know, it's been a while since they've been in that game. Right.
So for the Cowboys this year, anything less than an NFC championship appearance? Would be a disappointment. I don't think so. Um, I I wouldn't say that. Um, it would.
Here's the thing. It's right there for them. No, I understand that. Let's sound this out. Let's sound this out.
Because this reeks of a segment on our show. That's going to either happen later today or. or in future future shows. I was just talking about this, I forget with who over the weekend. But the Cowboys have an opportunity to be the one seed.
In the NFC. Correct. They have the opportunity to be the one seed in the NFC. What I mean by that is they've got Uh An elite quarterback. I think you called Dak that, right?
He six on the top 10 list from Dak's been awesome for a long time. From the unnamed scouts, executives, and coaches, et cetera.
Okay. They've got. Two terrific wide receivers, one who's A-plus elite and one who had a season where he was A plus elite.
Well, I'm not sure if you saw the top 10 wide receiver list. Both were on it. CD WAM and JavaScript. Right. Okay, so they got that.
Javante Williams had a superb season as the running back, and one would think that he's going to be. just as good, even if he's close to that. One would think the rest of the running game will improve. The line should be, if healthy, protect, they've got a terrific tight end as well. They do.
Okay. defensively. They've got Quentin Williams in his first full season there next to Kenny Clark, next to Rashawn Gary. They also drafted that kid, Caleb Downs, in the back. I keep talking about, you know, Overshone over and over again.
He's what healthy. Fast as lightning. The kid they drafted the kid from my school and Jay Sean Barham. They have pieces, man. Yeah, you'd think they'd be much improved on defense.
Best. Field goal kicker, too? He can give you three points from 70 yards out. No doubt.
Okay. So that's that. Yeah. Then, you know, and then the coach, who I think is emotionally brilliant, and I think the coach did better than what people thought he was going to be correct here. Then you look at their schedule.
Can I have the Dallas Cowboys schedule if you don't mind? They open up at the Giants, home for Washington. They take on Baltimore in. Um in Brazil. They're at Houston.
Okay, that's not a Terribly difficult start. They've got Tampa Bay at home on a Thursday night. And then here we go. This is my point. They're at Green Bay.
They play Philadelphia twice, as we all know. They then play San Francisco and the Rams. And they also play Seattle.
So they play a lot of playoffs together. That's what I'm saying. Is they have the opportunity if they win enough games. And then win enough of those other head-to-head games, they can have tiebreakers all over the map in their favor. At the end of the day, put it on the table and go, we're the one seat in the NFC.
I mean, that's not out of the realm. Quinn Bay, Philly, Seattle, Rams. Right. You know, right, yeah. Right.
And Dallas does not play Chicago. All right.
So, just again, just you wanted to keep throwing out teams that you think have a chance to win the NFC. You could even throw again Tampa in there. They've got Tampa on the schedule.
So they have enough of these head-to-heads on their schedule. for them to handle their own destiny and control it.
Okay. Now, to your point. If they then go to the divisional round and get one and done. Exactly.
Now that's a disappointment.
Okay, so I could sit there and go, uh You know, this is not like if they don't make the NFC Championship game, hey, at least it's a step forward. If they're the one seed and get one and done at home, you're all like, what was that one? What was it? What was it all for? That was like the shining, where Scatman Crothers travels all that way just to get an axe in the chest.
Spoiler alert. But um Or Or they're not the one seed. They win a playoff game. They get to some spot on the road and then have a Dez caught it. Type loss.
But even if they're sitting here like, you're like, now they've moved a step forward. But did they? Yeah, of course they did. They didn't make the playoffs last year, man. They had a lot going on with injuries and obviously Yeah.
losing a teammate. Midseason. I mean, they had a lot going on.
So, yeah, it would be an improvement. They make the playoffs. They win a playoff game. They go on the road. They perform well enough there.
They came just close.
So This is a proper reaction and an overreaction. But if they're the three seed and they beat the Lions, right, in the first and then they go and then, you know, then San Francisco comes to their house and they get whacked. What are we going to be talking about? Um I understand what we're talking about, but in the long run, is it better than the previous year? The answer is yes.
Okay. The answer is yes.
But I'm just saying the Dallas Cowboys have a chance to finally get off the Schneider and make the NFC Championship game. They really do. They have a roster. That is uh really good. And the schedule gives them the opportunity to personally handle their business, not hope somebody else has to do it for them.
What else you got?
Last one.
Okay. Last one, a little bit more quarterback talk, kind of looking at this year's draft, and we're thinking next year's quarterback draft could be kind of the one that we're talking about for a while. But you never know what's going to happen.
Someone who has drafted a quarterback late this year is not going to take one in the first round.
Next year. I think that's possible. Cardinals, Jets, Steelers, kind of the ones that I'm looking at with back, cake, club, Nick, and Drew Allard. I think it's possible. But all you keep seeing, and rightfully so, and I can't wait for the college football season to start to prove it out.
Because there's also always going to be a quarterback you're not thinking of that's going to have a must-have that suddenly throws himself into the first round. Yeah, someone, someone two people always have great college season. Joe Burrow had one of them. Yep. Don't you remember going in that season?
It's like two or bust. Remember, you even came on the air and mentioned in like October, somebody's like Burrow is going to get drafted number one overall. Yeah, yeah. We saw a mock draft in like October. Like they got Joe Burrow number one.
I'm glad that that does not. Let's put it this way. That video exists somewhere. I'm just glad people haven't found it yet because it will not bode well for us.
Well, we were just like, really? Joe Burrow?
So, so, um, yeah, where somebody. feels that the kid that they drafted this year is real enough. Yeah, like what if I would go Arizona with that one?
Okay, the other name that I saw that kind of sparked this thought was Cade Klubnick with the Jets. Like, this was a guy who was highly rated throughout all the years, it Clemson, then just kind of stumbled near the end of his career.

And Cade Klubnik gets in there and starts performing well enough that the Jets win a game here, win a game there, but they're still in the top five and they don't draft a quarterback because they're like, we believe in Cade Klubnik. That would be a hell of a sell to a fan base that has been sold now for a year, full calendar year coming up. On, we've just hit the reset button one more time, and we are trading away all those young Turks that we drafted in the first round in the last couple years so we can get. New fresh draft choices that we're not going to use on a quarterback because Cade Klupnik's the guy. He's going to have to, Cade is going to have to show up.
