This is the Rich Eisen Show. Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. Earlier on the show, host of the Green Light Podcast. Chris Long. ESPN senior NFL writer Jeremy Fowler.
Still to come. Actor Tom Pelfrey. And now, it's Rich Isen. Hour number three of the Rich Johnson show is on the air. What a day it is and has been.
We've been reacting to the Monday night week five finale where the Jaguars took care of business against the Chiefs. I'll give you my two cents on where the Chiefs go from here, in my opinion. The Browns traded Joe Flacco to the Bengals in the middle. of our conversation with Jeremy Fowler. We reacted to that.
You react to us by calling 888 Um Calling our phone number 204 Rich. We're in hour number three. Just had a really nice chat with Tom Pelfrey back on this program. He's on a terrific show called Task on HBO. Max, we'll talk about that with him.
And I guess your name must be Tom if you're allowed to appear in hour number three. We're about to get to Tom Pellisero in a second. We're on ESPN the app, as well as Disney Plus and ESPN Radio, presented by Progressive Insurance. Let's get to him now. He, along with Ian Rappaport, my colleagues from NFL.
Network broke this news earlier today. Tom Pellicero joining me here. Tom, why did the Bengals decide to finally make this move to try and get somebody? uh to compete with jake browning or start what what what's the plan here for flacco Tom. The actual plan in terms of what this means this week, Rich, remains at least somewhat fluid at this point.
No one that I've spoken to has spoken in definitive terms in terms of what happens this week. But what I can tell you is over the last 48 hours here, the Bengals really did canvass their options. There were a lot of discussions. There were phone calls made to different teams. In the end, Joe Flacco was not one that I had exactly top of mind that they potentially would go for.
A 40-year-old quarterback who was benched one week ago today in favor of a rookie third-round draft pick, in part because Joe and the Browns offense had not played particularly well. But here's why this makes sense for Cincinnati. My understanding is they never really went down the road on, for instance, Kirk Cousins. With Kirk Cousins, you're talking about significant draft capital, significant money, and oh yeah, no trade clause that he would have had to waive. They didn't go down the road with the Giants on Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston.
They end up getting Joe Flacco for a pick swap, fifth and sixth rounders being swapped in 2026. It's a pretty low-level type of a deal. And what this does is this gives them at least an option if Jake Browning were to continue to struggle.
Now, is it possible that Zach Taylor could come out tomorrow and simply say, hey, we're rolling with Joe Flacco immediately? It's certainly possible, but I think that the more likely scenario, Rich, frankly, at this point is this is sort of Jake Browning's last shot. Go out there, play like you did in the second half, or at least the fourth quarter of the game last week. Stop turning the football over. They do believe in Jake Browning.
They've seen him win before, but Joe Flacco is an upgrade over the other quarterbacks on the roster. Brett Rippen, Sean Clifford on the practice squad, Mike White, who they cut off the practice squad this morning. Flacco's played a lot of football. He played against the Bengals in week one and at least played well enough that they had a chance, if not for a missed field goal. To pull off an upset in week one for Cleveland.
So, again, this is sort of a low-risk and they hope, let's say, medium-reward type of a situation for a Bengals team that's got one goal in mind here, Rich, which is stay alive. Stay alive until mid-December, start of January, whenever it is that Joe Burrow could come back. They're in second place in the AFC North because obviously, a couple of teams have really struggled. The Ravens are all kinds of beat up, they're chasing a Steelers team that is three and one, and the Bengals by virtue of winning those first two games. They're still in the playoff picture here.
It's a fascinating move. You don't see these types of intro division trades very often, but on the flip side of that, you don't see many times the team's trying to get by for three months without their franchise quarterback. And oh yeah, the other team wants to clear the decks and have an all-rookie depth chart, which is what Cleveland's got now.
Okay, so let's talk about the Browns part of it. Again, I know you're busy, even though I'll let you go on with your day and you're back on the show on Thursday.
So, and then you're guest hosting Friday and next week while I'm in London with me chiming in every now and then. What are the Browns doing? What do you think? Is it Shadour now is second string? I know Bailey Zappi's on their practice squad and.
Deshaun Watson, we've seen him on a practice field every now and then. What's the Browns' plan? Here, moving forward, do you think?
Well, starting off on Deshaun Watson, he's coming back from two Achilles tears. That's a very long rehab process. Obviously, he's been documenting that on his social media. I have not gotten the sense that anything is imminent in terms of Deshaun Watson getting back on the field. Bailey Zappi's in his second run now on Cleveland's practice squad, but this does really clear the space now that for everybody saying, why isn't Shadur Sanders the number two quarterback?
Well, now here it is. And the expectation would be that he is going to be the one who backs up Dylan Gabriel starting this week for the Browns.
So, you know, with Shadur Sanders, I know a lot's been made. I watched Gerald McCoy talk about it on your show on Sunday morning, Rich. What are they doing with having Shadur and saying that he's going to play eventually? That's always been the plan. Jimmy Haslam flat out said it in training camp, which is they want to see both these guys figure out what they have.
And then as we get toward next year and the fact they've got two first-round picks, you at least know, do we think we have something that we can work with here? Here. Joe Flacco, barring an injury of Dylan Gabriel, was not going to get back on the field this season. Credit to Andrew Berry for getting something for a player that you wouldn't think just on the surface you'd be able to get something for here. But again, this was always the plan: to see both these quarterbacks.
You certainly saw some good things from Dylan Gabriel last week. You saw some not so good things in this game. It's not short term. They're not yanking him mid-game this week to go to Shador, but they want to get a full evaluation on both these players. This brings them one step closer to doing that.
Okay, so the likelihood of this week it's Browning starting in Green Bay for Cincinnati with a last-chance saloon message because Flacco's there as the backup. learning the playbook while in Cleveland it's two rookies. going to go one two into Pittsburgh. For the one and four. Browns, who are waiting to see if Watson's, in any way, shape, or form ready to come back.
this year. Tom, that's the likely scenario for week six. That would appear to be it. Still, no guarantee that we see Deshaun Watson on the field at all in 2025 for a variety of different reasons. He's got one more year and $46 million left on that contract.
Obviously, they got to amortize a ton of the bonus proration still, and they'll be feeling that effect on their cap for the next couple of years. But they've made some adjustments in terms of how they're going to be able to account for that moving forward with voidable years and the like. In terms of the Browns quarterback situation, yes, it's Dylan Gabriel this week. I would anticipate Shadur Sanders being the number two quarterback we'll see if they end up signing Bailey Zappy to the active roster to service the three, just to have a third quarterback in uniform. And for Cincinnati, you know, it's not easy, Rich, to get traded on a Tuesday at quarterback and go and start on a Sunday.
I mean, Baker Mayfield got claimed off waivers years ago by the Rams and started a couple of days later. Those stories are few and far between here. Again, I've talked to a number of people involved in this situation. No one has said definitively what Cincinnati's quarterback situation is going to be this week. And Joe Flacco's only win as the Brown starter this season happened to come over the Packers, who now his new team is facing this week.
I would just say with Jake Browning, it would make sense. And honestly, if you're Jake Browning, A trade for Joe Flacco is the best scenario of all the different player acquisition scenarios. In other words, you didn't go out and pay, you know, for instance, a Ryan Tannehill a bunch of money to come in, and you know that the clock is ticking, you didn't give up. Picks and give money for a Kirk Cousins who you know the clock is ticking. Jake Browning, if he does get the opportunity to start this week, which I would categorize as more probable than not, that we have not heard from the news from the decision makers.
And again, I've not gotten a straight answer on that to this point. The odds are he's going to be the starter once again this week. If he plays well, maybe you just got a good, solid number two in Joe Flacco, and Jake Browning can hold down this job. What the Bengals couldn't do was sit there, and Brett Rippon's a great guy, he's hung around for a long time because of that because he's a smart guy. You like having in a room, but in his limited opportunities to actually play, he's not performed at that level.
Joe's had a lot of success. The guys who run this style of offense have always liked Joe Flacco because he has that quick twitch in his arm, because he can read it and process and get the football out quickly. He has shown over time. Not so much this season, but he has shown over time that he can manage a game. Um, Jake Browning's got to get better at that.
You know, people talked about should they trade for Jameis Winston.
Well, you just got a three-touchdown, three-interception stat line from Jake Browning, which is probably what you get from Jameis. You're not changing a whole lot there. And I don't know that anybody's sitting there and going, Well, Joe Flacco's a clear upgrade over Jake Browning. Um, this is not, I won't say it's a message being sent to Browning, it's the Bengals saying, Hey, we got to get somebody else in here who we would trust to go out there and play. If it continues to look like you know, a turnover-riddled mess with Jake Browning, then you might see Joe Flacco here sooner than later.
Tom, appreciate the two cents. I know you're Zooming with Suze when I'm flying to London on Thursday, and then your guest hosting Friday, and then Monday, and Tuesday. Wednesday of next week. Appreciate your time, and we'll see a lot of you on this program. Thanks, Tommy.
Can't wait. Tommy P, everybody, right here on the Rich Eisen Show, everybody giving us the two cents that we required. Dang.
Okay. Before we bring out Tom Pelfrey. I haven't hit the Chiefs yet.
So let me talk about the defending AFC champs. And the A gajillion time defending AFC West champs. Didn't look pretty last night. They are playing like a 500 team right now, which is tough to see. And They are not playing consistently enough.
To win games against opportunistic teams that are full of talent. And confidence. And they go down in Jacksonville last night to be, despite being up 14-0, usually it's a wrap. When This defense takes the field. With two minutes to go.
And the other team needs a touchdown to win. Usually it's a rap and it wasn't last night. And the Chiefs are making way too many mistakes right now. that you're not used to seeing 13 penalties, including two On Uh On kickoff, They're making Like that last penalty, the last holding penalty on the kickoff that. put them back deep in their own end as opposed to On the 30-yard line with a cup with some timeouts left and enough time on the clock, more than with all due respect to our coordinating producer, doesn't want to hear it, than they had against the Bills.
Years ago needing a field goal.
So to force overtime. And they just made too many mistakes. Harrison Butker. Missing kicks, kicked one out of bounds. Defensively, everybody's pointing out Chris Jones today.
In Brazil, it was a mistake. Uh mental. Mistake of Taking the wrong path to Justin Herbert. He goes and takes advantage and slides and takes the time off the clock to beat the Chiefs. Last night Everybody's pointing out how he hardly As we talked about with Chris Long in hour number one.
He hardly gave a lick of effort on. that play in which Trevor Lawrence Fell down, stumbled around, and then got up and got for a touchdown. Normally, Chris Jones is so far in the backfield. Lawrence is touched. No timeouts remaining?
They're not gonna win that football game most likely. Mahomes throws a pick six right over the middle. Devin Lloyd takes advantage, flashes in, good defensive play. These things happen. And normally the Chiefs can Slop that off because they come up with a turnover.
on their own goal line with Trevor Lawrence. Comes up. Tries to put it across the goal line. And he's the latest person to fumble inside. The one-yard line trying to go in that we've seen this year has been a rash of those.
Normally the Chiefs, you do that to them after they're up for you know up a score. That's a wrap. But not this time around. They're two and three, and Patrick Mahomes was pointing that out. Last night.
Yeah, I mean it kind of just talks about our our whole entire season. I mean we I feel like we have we have the guys and we we've executed at certain points in the game and looked really good and then we we kind of we crush ourselves with penalties and mistakes and interceptions and and fumbles or whatever that is. I mean it's just we've kind of we've kind of done that to ourselves all year long. It's kind of been one guy here or there and in this league it's so close that those those change games and so We got to be better. You know, we've lost too many games already.
And so we've got to find a way to be better as a team and come together and play better throughout the rest of the season. Yeah, that's how you go from not losing a single one-score game last year or going back two years, 17 straight one-score games you win, to losing three of them this year. That's how you do it by making these types of mistakes. It's their first loss after leading by at least 14 points in four years.
So That's what happens. Andy Reid, pointing out the penalties being so difficult to overcome. My hat goes off to Jacksonville. They did a nice job. We obviously had.
uh thirteen penalties to their four Whether I agree with them or don't agree with them, it doesn't matter. They called them. And so you have that many penalties, you give up field position, you can out-stat them to death. Uh but it doesn't matter. It's a score that matters and We've got to take care of business there.
They sure do.
So here's the scoop. Are they looking differently than they have in the past few years? You bet. 100%. The last time they've started two and three or worse was.
20-21, they finished 12-5, made the AFC Championship game in home and lost to Joe Burrow.
So, can they turn it around? Absolutely. As a matter of fact, the time they started two and three before that, They made the playoffs as well in 2015. Andy Reid's been there, done that. Mahomes has actually even been there and done that.
Second time in his career That he's under 500 through five weeks. The other time, as I mentioned, he still hosted the AFC Championship game loss to Joe Burrow.
So Clean up the mistakes. and and and somehow rally these troops. Because the division's still winnable. A couple weeks ago, they're 0-2 and the Chargers. We're looking much healthier than now.
And they're only a game behind them right now and only a game behind Denver who they've yet to play. The Raiders, unfortunately, for them, don't look like they're going to be able to pull anything together to try and make a run. to join these three at the top of the AFC West.
So the division is still within reach. The wild card race You take a look at that, if you will. Um and they're only a game behind that. And and they You know, Mahomes is playing at the top of his game. 49th career game with 300 pass yards in the game.
And um First 11 seasons in NFL history, only Matt Ryan and Drew Brees have had more. And um And uh He's now all-time in third place with the number of 300 yard pass games in his career. How about that? in his first 11 seasons. Just pass Kurt Warner on that list.
More than Peyton Manning.
So, I mean, Mahomes is still Mahomes. Kelsey scored a touchdown, albeit. You know. Russell Yerk thought there should have been a penalty on that one. Um I disagree with that call.
Uh that that It looked close enough to that one-yard line, to be honest with you. Um And um The season's not over. The division's not over. The wild card certainly isn't gone. But they do not look like the team we have seen for the last few years.
They just haven't. Last two weeks. You know, against the Ravens, they did. And the Ravens didn't. look like a mass unit just yet.
So the problem is, as well, the team that's playing the best football over the last month is coming into their house, ready to try and put their pelt on their wall again, just like they did on a banner-raising night a couple years ago. Here come the Lions. And even if they're two and four after that, home for Vegas. There's a Monday night of home against Washington, which is not going to be easy. They visit Buffalo, which we all know.
The train whistles will be going nuts on that night. They just have to beat Denver. If they can sweep that season series, great. They can sweep the season series against Vegas. Take care of the business against the Chargers when they see him there.
Have a winning record in their own division. Win the division and go to the playoffs and make some hay. And you're the ones that are going to have to won and done Patrick Mahomes and crew. Good luck. That's the way through all this.
But right now it doesn't look good and you got to tip your cap to Jacksonville. But that one was a shocker. Up 14-0 and then up again with two minutes and change to go. Those are the ones that you're like, this thing's on ice. Good luck.
It's over. But they keep making too many mistakes on special teams. For sure. Um but I I'm I'm I'm uh somewhat concerned. I'm not terribly concerned.
844-204-RICH, number to dial. Tom Pelfree is in a great show. Task on HBO Max is a diehard giants fan. He's coming out here. For his second appearance on this program, don't go anywhere, this will be fun.
The Rich Eisen Show Podcast. You're on the Rich Eisen Show simulcast on ESPN Radio. Presented by Progressive Insurance. Talking with Tom Pelfrey, we just saw an incredible clip from the show Task, which is again on Sundays, 9 Eastern Time, starring. Mark Ruffalo and this man, Tom Pelfrey, here on the show.
And before we talk, some sports here. Um just The Power. That you bring to your performance in this show. It's awesome, dude. Really?
And you're welcome. I'm a fan of yours, and I told you this the last time you were on here from Ozark. Um you know where again you're you're You're playing a certain character in that show that is troubled. This guy is more of a, obviously, a family man than your previous. character in Ozark.
And the scene that you have with your daughter, you know, I'm a girl, dad, me too, dude, it hit me. It absolutely hit me because you're in trouble and you know it. Your daughter doesn't, she might sense it. Just terrific stuff, man. Oh, thanks, brother.
You're welcome. I mean, that's what makes Brad so special: scenes like that, you know, and being a girl dad myself, and, you know, even having to film that scene. I, you know, sometimes as an actor, when you're younger, you're thinking, like, how do I get my headspace into the drama? How do I think of what this would be like and cook yourself up into a storm? That day on set, I was literally trying to distract myself.
from what I was doing. Because even like a half second of realizing you know, what that would mean, you'd be a mess. You know, and this is what I love about Brad, like in a show like that, that we can have this great cat and mouse, this great building. This great sort of like genre thriller And still have You know, a dance with your daughter in the kitchen. Oh my god.
The Brad you're referring to is Brad Englesby, who was the creator of Mayor of East Town. If you like that show, you're going to love Task. Again, Sunday nights at 90 Eastern on HBO, available to stream on HBO Max. as well. And so you're you've got that Philly accent down, man.
You know, and you you nail it. And I'm I'm wondering, do you channel all of the Fans that you grew up hating as a Giant fan? Is that why you're so good at this, Tom? Is that why you nail it? Is that what it is?
Oh, man. All those guys and gals who spell out Eagles and just make sure, like, nails on a chalkboard for you? You know, for a long time, the Eagles weren't even a problem. It was like we could all just hate the Cowboys. And lately, the Eagles are the problem.
Big time, sir. Yeah. Can you put up the photograph of Tom at the Eagles game, please? Because I noticed this. There you are with Mark Ruffalo.
Now, Mark, Mark, this is, I guess, in support of Task, right? You're promoting it? Yes.
Okay. All right. And so Mark, if I'm out, is that like a Brian Dawkins gamer? He's wearing that. It sure is.
Is he an Eagles fan? No, well, he is now. I mean, by the end of that game, Mark was getting tattooed on his chest.
Okay, good to know. And I noticed you're in civilian clothes. Yes.
So you. You would not put on Eagles gear. They asked me if I would wear a jersey. I said, Of course, absolutely not. They asked me if I would wear green.
I said, Absolutely not.
Okay. And then this picture is taken, as you see, my head is down. Mark's holding up my hand because he knows that I'm really walking a tightrope here. They'd asked us to go out before the game with the Garrett Blunt and do the. Fly Eagles Fly.
Oh. And I stood there and I smiled, but I didn't flap my arms and I didn't say a damn word.
So you are a diehard, is basically what you're saying. Oh, yeah. You refuse to play along. I know that feeling, guys.
Okay. I know that.
Well, I know you hate the Eagles as well as a coward. But I like the fact that there's a, you know, that you're clearly loving your project. You're proud of your project. Very. Which means you want to promote your project.
But there's a line you just simply won't cross on this behalf. Can't can't cross it. Can't cross it. I mean, I grew up in a family where when the Giants lost, my grandfather wouldn't talk for the rest of the day. We're all in this together for the long haul.
And promotion of tax be damned. You're you're yeah. You're not up for that task, you know, I got it. We all gotta have lines, Rich. We all got to draw certain lines in the stand.
Otherwise, what do we stand for? Although Jackson Dart's got to give it some excitement. Him and Scatterboo. Scatterboo is so exciting. Brian Burns is playing with his hair on fire.
It's amazing. Like, some of those guys are so exciting, but. I mean, it was not a Daniel Jones problem. It was not a Daniel Jones pro. How about that?
How do we watch what he's doing in indie? And not feel a little sick to our stomachs. And just to the minute that you, well, at least, how about this? I'll give you just a little bit of assistance on this. Tell me.
At least. It's not like he's doing it for the Eagles and winning a Super Bowl like that. Yeah. You know, we've done that one last year. Every year.
It's a new metropolis for the Colts. It's a different conference, different division, different setup. Not in your face, right down the turnpike. He's not coming back to your house.
Now you're not playing him twice. At least you got that out of the way with Saquon. It's not that bad, is what I'm saying. Not well. Although, disappointing.
Um I understand. How you might feel. Yeah, it's rough. It's like Xavier McKinney going to Green Bay and just, you know. Oh, man.
It's wild. Like, we kiss away, and they just go and bloom. Yeah, I know. But Jackson Dart's got to give you some excitement. Jackson Dart's awesome.
He looks incredible. Right. I mean, he's got, looks like he's got an edge. You know, he's got. He's got an edge, and he seems like he's got the confidence that you want for a guy who's on the team that might struggle this year.
Like, I don't feel like this is going to get to his head. And all the reports you read, like after the game and stuff, the way he's taking ownership and leadership and going up to everyone in the locker room, taking full accountability. It's it's cool to have a baller who's got personal accountability. You know, I we we haven't had a vibe like that. Obviously, in a long time.
Well, I mean, and and Scatterboo, too, in my work and my role on NFL Network, hosting the Combine and the draft, I sit next to my colleague Daniel Jeremiah, who's one of the best in the business at analyzing and knowing who who's who and what's what. And normally you can compare a player to another player in the National Football League.
Well, this rookie could be this person. His comparison for Scataboo wasn't a player, it was a Plinko chip. And we actually got video from the Price is Ride of a Plinko chip going down because that's the way he runs. Yeah. He bounces off things and then he lands.
in a spot that's money. And then shakes his head and gets back up and Like you know what Gi Giants fans are are That's what he that's what he's like, that type of giant. Oh man. It's all vibes. Like if we don't win another game this year, just the the scataboo vibes and the dart vibes, you know, building towards the future, that'll that'll uh You know, it'll keep you somewhat happy.
I think they're going to win some games the rest of this year, though. I mean, maybe not this weekend. That loss this weekend was pretty rough, Rich.
So, I mean, pretty rough. We had the Saints. I know, and they turned it over five straight times, but I don't want to, you know, we're breaking a lot of records that way.
So, wait a minute.
So, when the Eagles are playing the Giants are playing the Eagles on Thursday Night Football, are you going to get a text from Ruffalo? Like, is he now one of those fans where he's locked in and he's now going to take on their mantra? I'm telling you, I didn't even know if they were going to let him leave the stadium. Really? They loved him.
He loved them. He was adopted in that moment to Philadelphia Eagles fandom because he's from Wisconsin. I said, you know, you got a team that's really good this year, but he was he was loving the Eagles.
Well, you know, I know someone from New Jersey who grew up a die-hard Yankee fan and has lived out here for 20 years. And as soon as the Dodgers beat the Yankees in the World Series, he became a Dodger fan. He's sitting right over there. And you're an abomination. No, I'm not.
An abomination. He's an abomination. The Yankees are terrible. Tom, give it to him. What do you mean?
It's fine. It's fine. I have two teams. I have a West Coast team and I have an East Coast team. Oh, it's convenient that your West Coast team is the Dodgers.
He's not like the Angels, right? He's not adopting the Angels. No, no. I mean, it's like I've been here 30 years from New Jersey.
Now I'm kind of like, I got to be like a little West Coast. No, you don't. I got to have a team. Wow. Tom, this show turned 11 years old yesterday.
Congratulations. I thank you for that, but I'm bringing it up to say that Mike has been here since show one. Wow. And how many times in the first 10 years of this show did he talk about the Dodgers and he was a die-hard fan of the Dodgers? I actually went to the Dodgers playing road series against Houston, and I saw them.
I'm telling you. Could you go back to Livingston, New Jersey and say that sort of stuff? No. You know, I got to be a game one of the World Series last year. It was amazing.
It was there. It was great. We know why it was amazing for you now. The truth is out. And it didn't matter to you who won either way.
You were going to have a good time. You had your bases covered. Exactly. But my fiancé's father, die-hard Dodgers fan. I mean, watches every single game.
Doesn't miss a game. Shout out to Gary. Gary. Mr. Kuoko.
Mr. Kuoko, everybody. And we got some really nice tickets to game one. And that was special to be there for that sitting next to him for. Freeman with the walk-up, you know, like and I'd never heard a place get as loud.
as I heard Dodger Stadium get in that moment. Let me tell you a different perspective with a family member. I took my then thirteen year old son to his first World Series game. Yeah. And we're Die Hard Yankee fans.
And we're sitting down a right-field line right around the second deck. Up comes Freddie Freeman, his home run ball Passed right in front of our eyes as it was leaving the yard. I cursed. I said to my son, Let's go because all the Dodger fans are going to go crazy. A, I don't want to be here for this, and B, we can use this to our advantage and be on the road within three minutes.
And we were. We were on the 101 freeway within five minutes. Wow. It was outstanding. That was the only good part about that window.
You probably just got home from that game. Oh, my God. You know how long you're sitting in that traffic leaving that stadium. Nothing's as bad as the old Giant Stadium. That was terrible.
I do remember that. Getting on a turnpike if you had to come again. My God. One of my favorite lines I ever did doing Sports Center. I don't know why I was saying it, but I did it.
I just said: Giant Stadium is the only place you feel. You feel jealous of Jimmy Hoffa because he's already home. That's the truth. It's a great line. That's how bad is that.
Jimmy Hoffa's in the swamps, New Jersey, huh? Oh, yeah. I emceed the first ever turning of the dirt for the new MetLife in the NRC. I made a joke when they handed out the shovels to all the senators and the governor and the owners of the Jets and the Giants and the Commissioner. I made a joke.
Just don't dig too deep. You might find Jimmy. Nobody laughed. Wow. But I did.
That's all that mattered. You know, I had a long-term contract in a dream. to make myself laugh. Yeah. I figured a jersey guy would appreciate that.
I do appreciate that. I did that.
So. I haven't seen the end of this yet. It's coming out. We're one and done here. Or is there a possibility that we're going to be able to do this?
We'll see. We'll see. It sounds like there's a possibility. Oh, great. Because this is, it's too good.
This show is too good to just be a limited seven Episode pop here. I'd love to see more of this. And I haven't even seen the way that this. Works out for the next three episodes. I'm halfway through here.
Yeah, we got five aired, and then we have six and seven, so two more, two more to come. But there's a chance that maybe a second season can be made? Who knows with any of this stuff? But I think it's always a possibility in the air. Um, you know, Brad creates such specific worlds it would I Do kind of love this world I created.
And and but you've already kind of gotten um you know the I guess the first pitch out of the way too. I saw that you threw out a first pitch for the Phillies. Did you do that? This is a little bit different. I wore a Phillies jersey.
No, I noticed that. Yeah, he's fine. For those listening at home, there's actual rage in Rich's eyes. I'm a Yankee fan, so I don't have any beef with Yankee. Yankee fan, too, though.
You know, okay. But that's fine. That's fine. I actually went, I throw out a first pitch for the Dodgers. I put on a Dodgers shirt.
Oh, you did? Although, but Don Mattingly was the manager, so I felt fine with that. Oh, well, then I got a story for you because guess who took me into the batting cages to warm me up before the game? Who did? Kevin Long.
No kidding. Yeah, man. The hitting coach. How cool is that? Oh, yeah.
I went into the batting kids. They're like, you want to go down and throw? And I was like, yeah, get down there. Kevin Long's down there. You say he's like, dude.
Yeah. You know, I mean, God, forever for the hit coach. For the Yankees, absolutely. He was so nice. He was so awesome.
He was like, throw it off the mound. I was like, I don't know.
So you didn't go to the top of the mound to throw the first coach? No, I threw all level ground. They took me in the cages and I threw off the mound a few times. I bounced two. That's right.
And then I sailed a few. And he's like, it's all right if you sail them. But I was like, I want to. I want to strike.
So, you know, when I got out there, the nerves kicked in like two minutes before I did it. And I was like, this isn't about me, this is about task. I can't come here and embarrass this show. You know, Pelfregna bounce a damn ball, sail a ball. And we had Ben Davis catching.
It's like, we're going to make him not even have to move.
So we threw the Mike Mucina change-up. The Nice. Right in there. First strike. Look at you.
That's good. Yeah, my my pitch um would have um Made a left-hander miss. It's my it was a it was a a a An off-speeder that went from left to right, I would have hit a right-handed batter. It would have been a hit to back. Are you lefty?
I'm not. I'm a righty, but you know, it was one of those. I just had some action. What do we call that? What we call a right-hander throwing a ball that breaks to the right.
It's kind of a screwball. Yeah, kind of. Yeah, it would hit a right-handed hitter and made a lefty miss. Nice. I don't know what it was, but I definitely blacked out.
You don't want to be that guy. You know what I mean? You just don't want to be able to be that guy. You don't want to be that guy. Especially.
No, no, you definitely don't want to be that guy.
Okay, so wearing a Phillies uniform, okay. Eagles uniform, not a chance. Absolutely not. God bless you. And at the Phillies organization, they were so lovely.
Everybody there was so kind. Got to meet the broadcasters before the game. Got to meet Kevin Long, as I said. Cruck, you met Cruck? You met me?
Met Cruck. He was hilarious. He's exactly what you hope Cruck would be. You know what I mean? He really didn't disappoint.
Like, that's all. Oh, it's not an act with Cruck. That's for sure. Yeah. Okay.
Look at you right there with the ball and everything. And the Philip, they might need you to pinch it, brother. And that's Brad. That's Brad Inglesby. He's the one who created the show.
Yeah, dude.
Well, congrats on everything that's going on. You're terrific at what you do. Thanks, brother. I tell you that every time. Thanks for coming on here.

I love The sonos.
Sound bars and speakers that are in my house. It sounds like I'm sitting right in the stadium. And when you're playing music, it sounds like you're sitting at a concert. And I just love the fact that you can play one song in one room and one song in another room. The kids are listening to this, I'm listening to that, Susie's listening to this.
And it's just fantastic. Studio quality sounds makes you feel like you're right in the stadium. Setup is so easy. You just plug it in, you open the Sonos app, you're ready to go. If you want stadium quality sound at home, just like me.

Sonos. They look as good. as they sound. Week five of the National Football League was off the rails, and a lot of the games going in, you weren't thinking we're up on the marquee. Normally, I do my top five list of other games.
I I was kind of struggling to come up with six, five, and one more for you. And every single one of them. You know, had something going for it. There were some blowouts. But Wow, where there's just some crazy plays to the point where I have come up with a top five wildest plays of week five.
Presented by Hyundai. Richest Top Five. All right, here's my top five wildest plays of week five presented by Hyundai. Number five was just up the road. Chargers and commanders.
Chargers are up 10-7. Commanders are punting from their own end zone. Tressway sends it to the way. Of Ladidi Mikonke, as Mr. Garvey once called him here on this set.
And Lad McConkey runs it all the way to the two-yard line where he hurdles. The last tackler to give the Chargers a 17-7 lead. If it was not. For Marlowe Wax, by the way, which sounds like he's a linebacker of the Chargers.
Well also sounds like a villain from the penguin, but Marlowe Wax roughs Trey West. Perhaps And the commanders aren't down 17-7. They get the ball back. and march down the field for a game time field goal to make it 10-10 and Give make it 10 unanswered of eventual 27 unanswered points. That was a wild sequence, an incredibly...
A breathtaking return by McConkey. The D D, the Call Trade, not meant to be. That was number five. Number four on my list comes from Sunday Night Football. The Bills come back from 10 points down, tie the game at 20 apiece.
And here comes Drake May. Can he march down the field? to win it for the Patriots. And the first play from scrimmage. Is a blown-up play because Daquan Jones of the Bills is all over Drake May, who not only keeps Daquan Jones at bay, but gets a pass off to Stefan Diggs, who takes it for 12 yards as a drive starter.
to start a seven-play, 32-yard drive. for a field goal winner, and that's number four on my list, Drake May. Just add Absolutely. A pill for the bills all night long. And that was a big play for Drake May.
That's number four on my list. Number three on my list is the way the Jaguars won last night's game. Trevor Lawrence getting stepped on. falling down to the ground, stumbling to get up. gets up And with no timeouts left, decides to run it anyway, and he takes it in for...
A one-yard score, one of the most wild one-yard scores with less than 30 seconds to go you will ever see in the history of the NFL. And again, it's his second rushing touchdown on a Monday night on his birthday. The only other player. After he scores this touchdown to put the Jaguars up and eventually win it, the only other player to have two or more rushing touchdowns on a Monday night on his birthday is Bo Jackson. Wow.
Now it's Trevor Lawrence. Number two on this list is the fact that Amari Demercado of the Arizona Cardinals. But listen, we've seen.
Somebody flip the ball. In celebration, too soon while crossing the goal line before. As a matter of fact, we saw it just last week with A.D. Mitchell and we saw it with Jonathan Taylor last year. But just the mere fact that A.D.
Mitchell of the Colts did it last week and then Deb Markado would do it this week. and he would do it with the team up 21 to 6. With 1251 left in the fourth quarter, and instead of it being 28 to 6, The uh pardon me, instead of it being uh 23 to 6, it's now Still 16 to 6. And um Um Um Fumbles the ball as he goes across the goal line. And um Pardon me, it would have been 28 to 6 at that point in time.
I can't believe that he did it again after it happened just last week. and the fact that it led to a comeback. which leads to my number one wildest play of the week. It's Cam Ward down 21 to 12 trying to get the Titans down to field. With four minutes and change to go, Because they're down two scores because Joey Sly missed an extra point so bad it nearly hit someone in the head getting a chicken nugget on the Arizona sideline.
and in the stands. He throws an interception to Dadrian Taylor Demerson. who rolls over and trying to get up. Fumbles it. And the ball gets kicked around.
For it felt like A full minute. And then Tyler Lockett falls out into the end zone with 451 left. And so instead of it being an assuming game-ceiling pick for the Arizona Cardinals. It turns into a touchdown for the Titans. who eventually get the ball back and kick the game winner for their first score of the season.
So the Titans Get Two. Massive breaks. from the Arizona Cardinals for my top two wildest plays. of the weekend. You have one more.
I did not know this. That's my boy. And I'll go with this one. TJ, you're the one who pointed it out. in such stark terms have we ever seen?
A guy with 55 home runs in his career, strike out someone with 56 home runs in his, I mean, 55 home runs in a season. Strike out someone who's got 56 home runs. and Kyle Schwarber. And that's the way Otani started the divisional Series for the Dodgers against the Philadelphia Phillies. And that's turned into a microcosm, I think, of the.
current state of affairs of the Phillies Dodgers series. Again, There's a man on the mound with 55 home runs on the season, and a man with 56 home runs at the plate, and the 55 home run hitter struck out the 56 home run hitter. And that's my top five presented by Hyundai to wrap up this Tuesday program. Thanks for listening to the Rich Eisen Show Podcast.
