This is The Rich Eisen Show. No! Lions and Chargers, oh my. Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. I could make a great case that the best division in football is represented by one of those two teams on the field in Canton or Hunt.

And it's Lance, throwing a top touchdown. Shargoes! Earlier on the show, NFL Network Insider Tom Pellisero, five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle in Domikin Suit, coming up, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, and now. It's rich eyes. Hour number three of our show is on the air.

Phone lines are lit. We'll take your calls shortly. And just in case you missed what the first two hours are all about, Tom Pellicero joined us from. Bucks Camp and gave us an update on what's going on with Terry McLaurin. and Micah Parsons.

If you missed that, there's our podcast. All three hours are available that way through the Cumulus Podcast Network. We also chop up some of the show on our YouTube channel, youtube.com slash rich eisen show. We also re-air on the Roku channel. as well.

Um, and then in hour number two, and Domican Sue checked in. He just recently retired. We had an interesting uh exit interview with him. What's more likely as well? Uh, in terms of the Terry McLaurin uh update, he has demanded a trade.

As I said off the top of the show, I mean.

So did Lamar Jackson once upon a time. And he did it so famously that he Tweeted it out just as John Harbaugh was meeting with the media at the owner's meeting, which kind of clowns your coach. Um and yet He's a raven for life, it appears. He's signed. Brandon Ayuk said, I want to be a...

Somebody other than a forty niner.

Well His quarterback, Brock Purdy of the 49ers, is joining us in less than 20 minutes. But that said, it doesn't stop people from Thinking that Terry McLaurin should be on their team. I just gave you. uh five destinations in a top five list. Um I got a text from somebody who wants them.

put up on the screen. Oh, pardon me. And he also wants Micah Parsons as well. That's what he wants. He wants Micah Parsons.

Uh tell Michael we got money from him in Philly. Tell my biggest fan there, I'm calling Howie. That's from Carl Anthony Towns. Oh, wow. I can't deal with this dude again.

This shit, man.

So, how do you pronounce that first word? Is it IE? Tell Monko we got money from him in Philly. Tell my biggest fan there, I'm calling Howie. Look, this is collusion.

It's interference. It's all a bunch of negative stuff. He can't do that. And so I responded: LOL, I'm putting this on the air. And he just responded: during the commercial break, five words, all in caps.

Tell him what I said. Carl Anthony Towns.

So So he doesn't want McLaurin. He wants Micah. Yeah, well, tell him to back up. I'll tell him. Hey, Kat.

Back up. You better bring that stick with you. I would need to. Monger stick. Nice.

So there's an update on that front. Hall of Fame game, we haven't talked about it yet. Listen, Chargers looked incredibly impressive. But it's again. Game one.

Daniel Jeremiah, when he's flying out there before he flew out there, he stopped by here and he's complaining about not having a great seat on the plane with the team because it's filled with players that aren't going to be with the team and he knows he's going to be with the team. And I'm like, wow. Normally DJ's a little bit more empathetic than that. But I mean, if you're stuck in a middle seat between two guys that are not going to be on the team, I understand your point. Especially two guys away about 293 bills.

Yeah, I mean, you're losing the armrest battle there. Big boys. You know what I mean? Take boy, big boy. I'm still reclining my seat.

I don't care. See, that's wrong. But that's neither here nor there. Um The one thing though that I Two two aspects of this game I won't talk about. First one is Certainly, in light of the fact that we have Brock Purdy on the show in hour number three.

Trey Lance. May finally have found The spot where he can Rehabilitate his career as a bona fide starter in this league. And I don't mean this to say he's going to knock Justin Herbert out. or supplant Justin Herbert. That is Not what I am saying because clearly.

When the head coach in charge talks about how I wake up in the middle of the night thinking, how am I going to get Justin Herbert to the Hall of Fame, as he said in this chair to my right when he was here last month, Or, as he said in one of his opening press conferences of the Training camp season: that Justin Herbert's biggest challenge is his teammates all working hard enough to get up to his level. This is Justin Herbert's team. But Trey Lance is in a spot where he's going to get a lot of reps in the preseason. And he's in a spot Where The offensive coordinator and the head coach together. are the ones who turned Colin Kaepernick into a major star in the league.

Because they saw his ability to run and throw and be a physical beast. and unlocked it.

Now, he got a shot there because Alex Smith wasn't. potentially in their mind's eye, the ultimate guy there. That's not the case here for the charges. I'm saying. In the same way, Sam Darnold spent some time in San Francisco, right?

Baker Mayfield spent a few weeks. With the Rams, that if you're around a quarterback room and a coaching staff, even for a short period of time, or in the case of Darnold, for a full year, right? That gets you ready for a next step. It lets you, it prepares you if you're with. A quarterback whisperer to succeed elsewhere and maybe get you on a radar screen somewhere else.

And again, I know it's game one of the preseason. But he looked comfortable and Terrific. And it's a great start. It's a great first step. Um Do we have Trey Lance?

Is that what we have? This is what he was talking about, his opportunity that he took advantage of. Last night in Can. I was excited to be able to play. I was excited we got this fourth preseason game.

If they would have told me I can play four full games, I'd be fired up about it.

So, yeah, it was cool. Yeah, I think going into free agency and everything this offseason, you know, my goal was to take a big step in my career. And, you know, I want to be a starter one day. That's my goal. I believe it'll happen.

I'm just waiting for the opportunity.

So, for me, coming to the Chargers, and there's a great, obviously Justin, a great guy to learn from, as well as Coach Harbaugh and G-Row. Great situation for me to be in. And, like I said, for me, I want to take a big step. And these four preseason games will be a big part of that. G-Row being Greg.

Roman Roman. and the the offensive coordinator. And, you know, every now and then Herbert's got the high ankle, he's got the rib, he's got this, he's got that, misses a game, and then suddenly, you know, Easton Stick was not. The guy in Maybe Lance could be under those moments of emergency. This was Jim Harbaugh on the subject matter.

after the game. Didn't have a lot, I mean he hasn't had a lot enough game action, you know, and just wanted to give him that. That was the game, the game plan, you know, get out there and play him. He's been playing good and you know, college. Not as much as most guys have coming out of college in terms of starts and games and.

Then he gets into pro ball and wins a starting job and then gets hurt. And So he hasn't had a lot of A lot of game experience and That's what we're trying to give them. He acquitted himself well. I think he's in a great spot, don't you guys? Am I overstating it?

Obviously, off of one Hall of Fame game, but. Um It's good to see. Remember we came out of the Super Bowl? Um When he was with the Niners, that was after Jimmy Garoppolo basically said farewell, and it's going to be his gig. And he's just like, I.

You know, I'm I need to earn it, right? Then we all know he got a shot and then he He got hurt, and then they went to Jimmy G. He got hurt, and then Brock Purdy's born, and yada, yada, yada. He's 50 million plus a year, and he's going to be our guest in 12 minutes. As the clear now starter in San Francisco, I just think good for him, learn.

Get up to speed. They're going to give him a ton of time. I don't know how much Herbert's going to play in the preseason. I would imagine very little, right? Zero, probably.

So we're going to see a lot of him. And we're going to see some of the ones, and let's see what he can do and learn there, and then maybe go somewhere else at some point. Because if he's the starter in the Los Angeles Charger world, then something. Wrong has happened with Justin Herbert. Right.

So I'm not, please understand what I'm saying here. Yeah, he just needs an opportunity. Sam Monson last night tweeted, last night was 5% of Trey Lance's entire NFL pass attempts. Like, think about that. That's insane.

Right.

This guy just hasn't played football, like Jim said. He missed a year. He sat out the COVID year, and he just hasn't gotten an opportunity to play. And so anytime you can get in this situation where you're going to get live game reps and then you're going to learn behind Jim Harbaugh, Greg Roman, Justin Herbert, you're in a great spot. Whether he sees regular season action or not, this is a chance for him to learn and eventually become a starter, which is what he wants.

And this may eventually be much ado about nothing. To be honest, but that's what I came out of the Hall of Fame game thinking. Jay Mones is clearly the biggest winner from last night's game. The other um The other aspect to come out of last night's game is the... Virtual video, if you will.

virtual um Chain guy. Where the referees still spot the ball, the humans still put the ball down on the ground. Right.

And then Now we use GPS and Hawkeye technology, I guess, right? Yeah, like tennis. Like tennis. And we see the football on the field. and then we see the first down line and it says at the bottom first down or or not.

And I I I just think It's It's time consuming, I guess. Time saving. Because it's time consuming to get the chains out there and the folks run. And now you're adding another aspect of: well, where are you planting one flow? Part of the.

uh poll like we're and and you're extending the other So it does remove S some human error out of it. There's still some human aspect to it. Unless we're going to start spotting the football. you know by using GPS and then you get in the ear of the human to say put it right there. I think that's probably further down the line.

But as of terms of right now, yeah, there's still that human element. But I thought it looked great. I thought it worked great. I would just add an arrow. You know what I mean?

Where the football at one point, you know, last night it said first down, and the yellow line was in front of the football. Right.

Which way are we going? Unless it was behind the football and they were just using this technology because it's so far in front of the first down line, they just wanted to start using this thing. Right.

Because when you just are walking past the television set and you're just seeing, like, that's not a first down. I could see that much space between the ball and the yellow line. No, it's past the yellow line. Right.

So add the line, like an arrow as to which direction the football is going on. Like that. Like s we need a little bit more visual on the screen. And then of course just Mm-hmm. And I'm happy to be part of this, and the league knows this too, clearly.

I've been around. Wow. We just got to get it out there as to what the actual technology is.

So there's not all these gambling nuts out there that think that this is. you know Somebody creating the video replay virtual looking thing. because that person's bet the over. You know? Like this is that Because at least you could see the chain being put down and know, oh, my eyes can see that's a first down.

I'm just trusting some computer to tell me where the ball is in relation to the line. Yeah. But you can't conduct yourself. You know, in this world of tinfoil hat nut jobs that are out there who think everything's a conspiracy and nothing's true anymore. Right.

Everything's true. You can't operate, you know. in fear of that. group of people. That appears to be getting larger in our crazy mixed up world every day.

But you know. Long story short, I think this is an improvement. I think so. And I just need to see a little bit more on the screen, like an arrow and getting it out there and describing what is the exact GPS system that is being used. How do we know where the first down line was?

Like the first original line of scrimmage for the new sets of downs was? How are you measuring it? And of course, you know, Nance wants this now to be how you can tell. If you can tell whether the ball has gotten past the line again, you can see if it's gotten past the end zone. Mm-hmm.

Uh the the line That you need to crease in order for it to be a touchdown. That though, there's usually bodies all over the place. And that may be the case for a first down, too. Like, how are you going to use this for a tush push? Like the Josh Allen play last year.

Same thing, right? There's still a human element of where the ball is going to be spotted. Right.

Unless. We can essentially GPS exactly where it is based on forward progress. And then you get in the ear of somebody saying you need to place it on that blade of grass. I don't know how that's possible. And certainly you're not.

Yeah. Speeding the game along in that way. That seemingly would not make the game quicker, no. But I mean, anybody else have a problem with what we saw last time? I think it's a huge hit.

Visually, it looks cool and. Away we go. I'm gonna add music, a little music element to it. Interesting. I mean each So, if it's a first down, there's like a first down music?

It's first down music. Like, for instance, on Fox, if it's a first down, you play the upbeat Fox music. If it's not a first down, you play that slow music. The injury music? The injury music.

Yeah. Okay. Do you go womp, womp, like womp, womp, not a first down. You play the Yodels? Oh, the Yodeler, yeah.

Sort of like the Yodel. Again, we're just spitballing. This is what Rich Eisen Consultants are about, just like out of the price is right. We're yodeling towards the first down. Yeah.

I don't know. Do we have like a family feud? It was missing a little bit of production value. It is seriously missing the direction. I do like the direction idea.

Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, so just because not everybody is sitting in front of the television, you're walking past in a bar, you're walking past in a living room, you're not true, you know, you just need to know visually. In the same way that when you walk past a television during a football game, you know exactly the score, you know exactly the time, you know exactly everything because it's non-stop on the screen. In the same way, when you're watching a game prior to that, You're like.

How the hell do we watch this not knowing what down and distance is and what time it is and the quarter and what the score is? How do we how do we just had to wait to hear? Like. Yeah, like that's what it used to be. RES Consulting.

That's what the best thing about us is that it is about us, and we're helping the NFL. We're helping them be them. We got to get you added to this graphic. What is another character? I made myself as a lamp once.

QB of the San Francisco 49 is Brock Purdy here. How you doing, Brock? Good to see you. Doing great, we're in camp, just got a baby. Hey, I think you buried the headline.

I'm not going to lie. Congrats. Not going to bury the line, the lie right there.

So, who? What do we, what do we, boy, girl? What do we have? We got a little baby girl. Her name is Millie.

So she's our first child. And our hearts are so big right now, man.

So sure. All right. I mean, let's be straight up here. There's Millie right there. Your wife's name is.

What's her name? Jenna.

Okay, Jenna.

Now, I'm straight up. You got to be honest with me. Did Jenna say that white t-shirt would be good for the picture? She told me what to wear, actually.

So I'm going to point to her on that. Hey, this is not my first, this is not my first rodeo. You know, I mean, I got this sign here. I've had three of them. And for sure, you know, the white t-shirt, I've been directed before and produced by my wife.

I get it. That's a lovely photograph. Thank you. It's appreciated. You're most welcome.

So, how has that changed your perspective on things? Brock? I mean, it's um it's what matters, you know, just With what we're doing in life and why I'm doing it. You get to go home to my wife and our little baby and to be able to raise her up in this world. And obviously, you want to teach her all the good things and everything for everything to go perfect, but it's handling all of that.

And then coming here and work and playing football. But at the end of the day, it's like it doesn't matter what happens. I get to go home to my beautiful family and just be so grateful for what matters. And so I'm still learning, but man, my heart is big right now and I'm just so thankful.

Okay, so who had more labor pains? Your wife for the baby or you for your contract? Brock. No, I'm going to say my wife. Definitely.

You know, I have so much respect for her. For the management front, good answer, good audible right there.

Okay. So, I mean, lots has changed in your life in 2025. Pretty much. Would you say that? Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know, our baby, and then earlier this offseason, the contract, getting that handled.

So, I mean, there's been a bunch of different moving parts and whatnot, but being married to, you know, Jenna and being my best friend, like, we've been able to handle all of this and then our faith background and understanding what matters most in life and what we're trying to do, what's our purpose, where are we going, and keeping things simple.

So that's just where we're at right now. We're very thankful. But it's just one day at a time, you know, not getting caught up in too much stuff. I bet. I bet.

Listen, money's great, but what is the contract? And the The dollars cents term, length, mean to you. From the organization. What does that signify to you and mean to you at the end of the day, Brock Purdy? Yeah, I think it's you know, it's them showing, you know, they're putting their faith and trust in me to lead this organization and be the guy that can help take.

Take us to new heights, and obviously, we're. Chasing the sixth Super Bowl ring for this organization and for them to pay me to show me that, hey, they're putting their faith and trust in me to go do that. And so that's my goal. Taking it one day at a time. And my process is the same with how I go about studying and the scheme and working with Kyle and my teammates.

But going into year four, it's like, all right, it's time to obviously be the guy consistently week in and week out. And let's put a season together. Let's get to the playoffs and make a run. And that's how I'm looking at it. I don't want to think too much more than that and make it complicated.

Of course. Um you know, keeping it simple and go win games.

Now the the the dollar figure is um Robust. Without a doubt. And that beautiful baby that we just saw a picture of. uh at the very beginning of this conversation is set. And that's a pretty neat feeling for you and your wife that you can know that right now.

That said, what do you say to people who think you could have gotten more Based on your situation, your leverage, your performance. What do you say to folks? Could have gotten more, Brock. What do you say to that? I mean, you know, there's a business, so there's a bunch of different things that, you know, can happen.

For me, it's. You know, getting what I deserve, yes, but also. You know, we got to put together a team and guys around me, and you know, let's let's win at the end of the day, man. Let's win. Um, and that's all I care about, and you know, to keep fighting for more.

you know, millions of dollars and things like that. It's like I gotta keep it simple and I know what's most important in my life and that's my family, um, you know, my faith and and then obviously coming here and and elevating everybody else's game and helping helping us win. And um, you know, for me, it Another, however, many millions of dollars, like that's not going to satisfy me. Like, I have everything that I need. And before this contract with obviously my wife, Jenna, my.

Faith in Jesus Christ. Like, that's all I need, man. And I really do believe that. But, you know, it's a business.

So we did the business side of things. But outside of that, I'm content. I know the Niners are as well. And now you just surround yourself with a good team and go win, man. Brock Purdy here on the Rich Eisen Show started the San Francisco 49ers, not to turn you into my information, NFL information, man, but there's a lot of health questions right from last year.

To this year, you know, and obviously getting your receiver core back healthy. in terms of week one, where did that where does this all stand for you? that you're willing to share right now, Brock. Yeah, I mean, obviously, Brandon Ayuk, our starting star receiver, just from his ACL injury last year, you know, we're, I don't know where that lines up in the timeline of things, but, you know, come week one, you know, obviously we're going to rock with whoever we can that's healthy. Jawan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall, Jacob Cowing, DeMarcus Robinson, all those guys, man.

And we're excited for every single one of them. And obviously, we still got our guys, George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, Kyle Yuschek. We got guys that can make plays. And so for us, whoever's out there, we know that we're going to trust come week one and find a way to win. Kyle will do great with the scheme with Clay Kubiak, Mick Lombardi, and we're going to roll, man.

So obviously we want all of our guys to be there and healthy, but that's just how things are right now with Ayuk being hurt, coming back from his ACL, but we're going to be just fine.

So I'm excited for it. And the offense in your third year now running it, you must be now, how comfortable? compared to Obviously year one As a full-time starter, where are you right now on that front? Yeah, I mean I Definitely really comfortable in it. Just when Kyle calls a play, knowing what to expect, what's my answers, getting in and out of the huddle, being more clear to guys in the huddle on certain things and looks and reminders.

Just, you know, going into year four, it's like this maturity, like you've done it, you've been there, and it's another language that you've studied, you know, for multiple years and now I feel more fluent in it.

So taking all those things, and once I, you know, break the huddle, getting up to the line and keeping it simple, what's my job? What's my answer? What's my footwork? Where do my eyes need to be? And find completions, move the ball, move the chains.

It's that. It's doing that over and over and over and trying to keep it simple within all of that.

So I feel good. What was your first conversation with Coach like after you signed the contract? And it's like, okay. You know, you gave me the opportunity. I knocked the door down.

I'm now, we're now officially. attached at the hip here. Like this is it. And I'm sure you felt that way already. The contract didn't need to happen for you to feel that way, but it kind of does confirm it.

I'm just wondering what that was like. for your first meeting with Kyle Shanahan after all that. Yeah. Going into it, you know, Kyle sat me down and we just talked. He's like, hey, man, there's going to be this whole process within the negotiations.

But just so you hear it from me before it starts is I believe in you and I have since you got here and you became the guy. Like it's been nothing but great things. We've grown together and I want to continue this ride together. And he goes, but when it comes to the money and all that kind of stuff, that's between, you know, the money people, your team with your agent and everybody.

So, but he explained to me that, you know, I'm his guy and we need to get this done. And so I appreciated that, you know, being the starting quarterback, hearing that from your head coach just gives you a lot of confidence moving forward. But once we got the deal done, it was nothing but a little celebration and we were appreciative of both sides taking care of business in a professional manner. And now it's like, you know, we got right back into meetings and we picked up where we left off from last year. And let's, you know, keep this thing going.

So nothing but respect for Kyle and how he goes about it. And I love playing for him. Where were you watching the draft and seeing the new and old? DC and Robert Solid get one pick after another after another, after another. What was your two cents on that one?

Watching the proceedings. Yeah, I'm a big advocate, man, for loading up our defense. What he's done here, you know, when I got here my rookie year, man, our defense was stacked. And that was from, you know, what Salah had built up.

So to have him back and do his thing in the draft, man, I couldn't be more excited, you know, for our team, for this organization, and have Salah back for our culture, man. It's going to be pretty sweet. I'm excited. Yeah, and you know, you got handled and everyone's coming back healthy as best they can. There's.

You know, it seems to me that your your team is Out of the headlines, under the radar right now, which is weird for a team with such a massive fan base. And such a level of success over the past few years of being Super Bowl contenders despite the injury bugs. Would you say that's fair that you guys are under the radar as a team? To be reckoned with? This year, right now, Brock.

Yeah, I mean, I guess you could say that. I mean, we didn't make the playoffs last year.

So, you know, anytime that happens just by nature, you know, you're going to be a team that people think, you know, oh, they got a lot of work to do kind of thing, and which I get, you know. But for me, it's, you know, I believe that we have all the right people in this building to go and do what we want here. You know, I feel like last year we were a couple games away, a couple moments and plays away from winning games and getting the playoffs and making a run. You know, things just don't go our way with what happened. But, you know, last year was last year.

I feel great about this team and who we have and the leadership here.

So people can overlook us if they want and whatnot. That's fine. We don't listen to the outside world. It's all about who's in this building and inside our walls. And we're going to go and play together and find ways to win.

Now, speaking of making a run, I'm sure you've heard it. And I think I may have even brought it up to you in our last chat during last season. Steve Young thinks you should be using your legs more. that you have that game weapon in your arsenal. and that you should be taken off more and you should be more of a of an offensive weapon.

uh running it. Do you agree? Bruh? I've answered this before, and I get what he's saying. I totally do.

I think for me, it's playing quarterback, and I've said this before, like I'm a point guard. I like to dish it out to the guys that are open, move the ball, and get our offense to be a machine and move it forward and do my job and do it well. And then obviously, there's times where it's football, man. It's 11-11, pockets are going to break down. Yeah, use your legs, man.

Tuck it. I feel like I have a good enough skill set to be able to move and create plays on the run and off schedule and whatnot. I think we saw that in the NFT championship game and some other moments and other games. But am I a dual threat guy? No.

I think I'm a pocket passer first. And if something breaks down, then yeah.

So I totally get what he's saying, but that doesn't mean I got to drop back and think, all right, I haven't ran in a while. I need to go make an explosive play with my legs now. When the time's right and it presents itself, then sure. Speaking of point guard, I feel like you're leading me question to my next question. Have you spoken to Tyrese Halliburton?

lately. Brock. I have. It was more so just, you know, congrats on a good season and praying for him, man, after his injury, man, in game seven. That was tough to watch, but I'm so proud of him.

You know, just the playoff run that he had. And all of us, Iowa State guys, like, we've known that, you know, Tyree's had the it factor going back to college. And to see him doing this on a national level at the highest level in the NBA, man, it was pretty remarkable.

So his playoff run, the whole season that he had, man, couldn't be happier for him. Yeah, speaking as a Knicks fan and maybe on behalf of Cavs and Bucs fans, not that big of a fan of the run that he went on, but he was unreal, superb. And obviously, in the time where his team needed him the most and when it was least expected to go on a run, when did you first see that it factor? When did you first meet him? and notice that, okay, this is pretty special.

Right now. Our freshman year, you know, like we had a couple of those just general classes at Iowa State and like just, you know, hanging out with him. He's a genuine dude, and he had. Just this. Charismatic personality in front of all the guys and stuff.

I was like, oh, this guy's sweet. Like, this guy, he's got something to him. And then, sure enough, when basketball season rolled around and he stepped out there as a freshman, you know, six, six point guard, dishing it out, like going on, you know, explosive runs and throwing it down in front of the whole stadium. Like, I was like, oh, shoot, like, Tyrese is like that. And then he stayed a second year and did the same thing.

But not only that, man, anytime he was on the court, you just felt like the whole team and everybody watching, like, all right, our team's got a chance now, and he's going to elevate everybody else's game around him. You felt that. And so, seeing this on the NBA level now, for me, I'm like, yeah, this is the same Tyrese that I watched back at Iowa State.

So, was John Halliburton there too on the court doing his thing? Not back in college, I don't think.

Okay, just want to know how far back you go with John as well. Uh, all right, so before I let you go here, um, you got um. Millie at home, right? And if I'm not mistaken, days apart from Colette McCaffrey, am I correct? Like just what, about 10 days apart?

On the front, something something right around that.

So let's say the Purdies. and the McCaffreys want to go live their best lives one night, go out to dinner. Who on the San Francisco 49ers would be the designated babysitter? For both of your infant children, Brock Purdy. Man, I would have to say I mean, I want to say Kittle would be fun, but he might be a little bit too crazy.

Somebody's got to put the kids to bed, bro.

Okay. You know what I mean? Like, this is the guy that's awesome, he's responsible. But uh it would seem like bedtime would be a little fungible, you know what I mean? Like a little movie, like a moving target.

Right.

We would get home from dinner, and the kids would still be up moving around, and he'd be ramping them up. And we're like, come on, George. At some point, we've got to put the kids down.

So who who on the team? Do you think he would be the right person for the job so the Purdys and the McCaffreys can have a night? Of adults at dinner. You know, it kind of just feels like you were back before the kids. You know what I mean?

For speaking. I mean, one of the offensive linemen, I mean, the offensive linemen, I feel like, are very mature, like good dudes. Yep. I mean, maybe Colton McKibbets or Kyle Yuszchek, the fullback, he's always on. He's a type A.

Okay. Yes. I want to say Fred Warner. I don't know. We'll see.

Okay. All right. I like it. These are all, these are all good. You know, 20 bucks an hour, maybe.

You know what I mean? Like, that's, you know what I mean? Reasonable. That's sort of working. You can reach them.

Any questions? They can reach you at dinner. I think this makes sense.

Okay. I love that Kittle was your first choice, though. I'd like that one. That's what I was hoping for. He's one of my favorites, too.

Brock, thanks for the time, man. Really appreciate you catching up in the middle of training camp, and we'll catch up during the season if you're.

So well and greatly appreciated. Thanks, guys. Appreciate it. You bet. That's Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers quarterback, new proud papa, right here on The Rich Eisen Show.

And I would linger a bit more talking about Brock and the Niners, but Micah Parsons has tweeted. Yeah. And did he ever? Did he ever? How are you, George?

I'm great. What do you have? I was sitting in your green room and I was active for like longer than five minutes and so I started exploring and I found a closet and I found a pillow with your face on it. I'm gonna probably take this home with you.

So you know that. Please do, get it out of here. This is gonna be...

Now how do you explain that to your wife? Oh, what do you mean? She's gonna say it looks beautiful. Sit her right on my couch. Sweet, will you please put Rich away?

And I would say, No, no, he's here with me tonight. While we watch a movie, did Brad Purdy get jacked up? Brock? Yeah. Dude, he's always jacked up.

He didn't look it. No, you just, you, you didn't see it because you're like, oh, look at this young, nice, nice guy. He's backpacked like he's going to homack. Yeah, that's what you see. But then, like, now that he's, you know, he's into year, was he?

He's into year three now. Yeah. You know, he's played a lot of big football games, played a really high level, runner up to MVP. See, now you're noticing like the physical attributes. There it is.

You blah. There he is. Look at those squads. Damn. Yeah, no, thank you.

What's a monster? Give me a good story about him that where he's where maybe the first time you're like, all right, I see this. I got it. I understand it. Brock's first day.

I hung an aisle football shirt in his locker, which was phenomenal. And he instantly takes it out because he's like two lockers down from me. He goes, you put this in here? Just get this get the out of my locker, and I'm just like, I'm gonna like you. I absolutely know that already.

Just like tosses it on the ground. I was like, Respect. I love that. That's what he said to you. Yeah, get the out of my locker.

I was like, Phenomenal. I absolutely love it. That was the first joint. I was like, hey, Brock, welcome to the Niners. Like, he gets to his locker.

And I was like, you put this in order to get the out of my locker. What exactly did you put in there? An Iowa Hawkeye football shirt because he went to Iowa State. Yeah. It's phenomenal.

That was when I first was like, all right, Brock's going to be a solid dude. Like, I'm really excited for that. Then you go from. Um The Mexico City game where we played in 2022 and he had like three snaps in the first snap, he turned the wrong way on a handoff. Which was phenomenal.

And I was like, oh, that's kind of funny. That happens to guys sometimes. And then two weeks later, he's coming in against the Miami Dolphins after our second quarterback went down and delivering third down and longs to me, Juice. Um, I you Debo, and just stepping up in the huddle, stepping up in the pocket, getting hit and cover zero looks, and just delivering the football. And you're just kind of like.

Oh, wow. Like this, he can play. Like, you're not just going to step into a football game and just deliver like that. And then it's like, okay, well, he's going to do it again. And then his first start of his career, I'm pretty sure, was against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady in San Francisco.

Yeah. That's pretty cool. Like, hey, what a storyline. No, Brady's coming back to the bay. I'm pretty sure last time that he was in the Bay, they beat the Niners like 30-something to nothing.

Something like that.

So it's like, oh, this is, you know, this is going to be a big game. And Rock comes out there and just plays lights out. Um And then, like, it just kept going, kept stacking, and we didn't lose the game. And it's just like, all right, until like the NSC Championship game, he gets hurt. We're like, wow, okay.

Well, then the next question is: hey, what's going to happen to Brock? You know, he's recovering from a UCL injury. Like, how's he going to respond to that? Doesn't throw hardly throws a little bit throughout the summer and stuff like that. He has a limit during training camp.

And he comes out first game of season against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Throws her a couple touchdowns, throws her a bunch of yards, and you're like, nah, he's going to be just fine. And really, like, you just notice it every single day. Like, he's a consistent kid. He's not, I mean, he's not really a kid. He's consistent at his job.

Every single day he shows up. Um He just has like this intensity to him that like I don't think people see Very often unless you're in the building with him, like he just wants to be really good. All of George Kittle's appearances. He's just one of our favorites. He's just dynamite, even though his dog did pee on the pillow he took home.

Show began with us talking about Terry McLaurin wanting to trade. He said he wanted to trade him at. And um He gave one. And then we learned from Diana Rossini of the Athletic that Michael was considering. Drastic measures.

including a trade request or even a declaration that he's severing his relationship with the team. Per multiple league sources familiar with the situation because the relationship has deteriorated to that point. What would that? look like. We now know.

Would this suffice as breaking up with the team and demanding a trade? Micah Parsons Tweeting out the following. I guess he put it on his notes and then he screen-grabbed it and popped it up. It starts with it was Thank You Dallas was the Was the um Headline Sounds like he's gone. Yes, I wanted to be here.

I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this America's team once again, the team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here. I no longer want to be held to closed-door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans, and my teammates.

I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me. I had purposely stayed quiet in hopes of getting something done, but since there's a confusion out there, let me clear some things up. And then he goes in. Details. I had my agent reach out to the Cowboys last offseason after my third year in hopes of getting a deal done early.

Unfortunately, the team didn't want to start any negotiations at that point. I was okay with that, didn't complain, focused on 2024. After the season, I told my agent again. let the team know where that we were open to negotiate. when they met at the combine.

My agent informed me I should wait for other deals to get done because the price would only go up, but I didn't care and I wanted to secure myself as a cowboy long term. This is before any other pass rushers. Got deals done. And then He also mentioned how I knew I would be leaving money on the table, but again, I was okay with that. Again, radio silence as far as my extension.

In March, I met with mister Jones to talk about leadership.

Somehow the conversation turned into him talking contract with me. Yes, I engaged in a back and forth in regards to what I wanted from my contract, but at no point. Did I believe this was supposed to be? A formal negotiation.

Now comes the big finish. And I informed Mr. Jones afterward, my agent would reach out thinking this would get things done. By the way, this is exactly what Clarence Hill told us was happening, right? Yep.

But when my agent reached out and spoke to Adam. I imagine he's in the front office. He was told the deal was pretty much already done. My agent, of course, told him that wasn't the case and also reached out to Stephen Jones. Again, the team decided to go silent.

At that point, we decided we would allow the team. To reach out to us whenever they decided they wanted to talk, yet still not a call, email, or text to my agent about starting a negotiation. Up to today, The team has not had A um A back and forth. At all. And he said At this point, we decided we would allow the team.

Can you keep going? Yet, not still a call whatsoever. is what he said. And then we finish up with the big finish here on this statement. I have it here from.

Again, the NFL network. Up to today, the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract. Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years, or anything else. Still, I stayed quiet, but again, after repeated shots at myself, In all the narratives, I've made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally.

Adam is Adam Prasifka, he's the director of Salary Cap and Player Contracts. Thank you, sir. This tracks with what You know. Be um The great Clarence Hill told us. And it also tracks with Demarcus Ware telling us that Jerry likes having conversations with players in his office.

They like vote of candles. He gets the, you know, and he sets the scene and he starts talking about you want to be a Dallas Cowboy. This is what we're talking about. And it also tracks with everybody saying that The new head coach there, Brian Schottenheimer, has talked to Micah Parsons about being more of a leader. And again, what that's about is like, stop podcasting so damn much.

You know, be more of a leader, be here and be about it, and things of that nature. That's probably why he showed up to training camp.

Well, and that's what he was saying. I'm trying to. show that I'm being a leader by being here. Certainly since If it starts with, I thought we had a deal, and then you're like, talk to my agent, and they don't reach out again. That's absurd.

There's no other way to put it. You know, I love the Joneses, and I. Oh, it's just absurd. When you're talking about there's only two individuals in the history of the NFL that's had a dozen or more sacks in each of his first four years of his career, Reggie White and the guy on the screen.

Now, you could sit here and say to the Joneses the four letters F-A-F-O. Right.

Diana Rossini has already said they have no intention of trading him.

So I don't know where this goes. Except for He has now made the biggest stink he possibly can. Certainly, if he stays in, if he now is holding in. And you can't give him a five-day letter, and he's like, I'm holding in, I want out, I don't ever play for you again, but I'm here because I'm trying to be a leader with my teammates while I'm still here. And they're still my teammates.

That's the way that you put the maximum leverage that you possibly can here to get something done. And again, there's still 30 plus days for them to call the agent, have a serious negotiation, and as CeeDee Lamb said at the end of the day, Laugh it off. and all get back together again. Once again, Miles Garrett came on our show at the Super Bowl. And said, it's over.

I want no part of it. It's not about money, it's about winning. 40 million dollars a year later, he's back with the Browns. It sounds bad, it feels bad. It's just unnecessary.

It's not necessary. Unless they're trying to prove a point. When Jerry sits down with you, it's a contract negotiation. All right, then, you know. Is that what you're trying to prove to other people on the team?

It just makes no sense. It's unnecessary. Can it be repaired? Absolutely, it can be repaired. Give him the money he wants, just sit down and talk about it.

Just end this. End it. Midnight has now struck as far as Miles, uh Micah Parsons is concerned. That's what I'd tell you, TJ. Just sit back.

And hopefully they talk to each other. Because that's the way it should go. I am Michael Rosenbaum. I am Tom Welling. Welcome to Talk Bill.

Where it's fun to talk about small. We're going to be talking to sometimes guest stars. Are you liking the direction Lois is going in? Yeah, because I'm getting more screen time. That's good.

But mostly it's just me and Tom remembering. I think we all feel like there was a scene missing here. You got me, Tom. Let's revisit it. Let's look at it.

See what we remember. See what we remember. I had never been around anything like that before. I mean, it was so fun. Talk, Bill.
