One undefeated. With all the disruption that we had in this season, I think there's quite a bit to write about when it comes to the legacy of a team. The Rich Eisen Show. Earlier on the show. Baltimore Ravens defensive end Callaeus Campbell.

Coming up. NFL network analyst Daniel Jeremiah. Plus, actor Bruce Greenwood. Your phone calls and more. And now.

It's Sir Rich Eisen. All right, everybody. Welcome to hour number two of the Rich Eisen Show, right here from Los Angeles, California. We had a great chat with Callaus Campbell in our first hour with the Baltimore Ravens. We say hello to everybody watching on NBC Sports on Peacock.

We also say hello to the Rich Eisen Show radio network, especially our new affiliates in Youngstown, Ohio, and also Norfolk. Virginia and also Vegas. We also had Brent Musberger on yesterday. Congratulations, Raiders fan, on Ken Wisenant being your new defensive coordinator. Rough morning.

I shouldn't say that everyone listened. Poor guy. For the Raiders driving around in their car listening to the Rich Eisen show right now on Raiders Nation Radio. I guess from the profile, they kind of like. No, look, it's Gus Bradley.

Gus Bradley.

So the. I guess somebody initially tweeted out a photograph of Wisenhunt joining. And it's not like Wisenhunt is sensitive or anything like that. As I learned, sitting on the set of NFL Total Access at the Super Bowl. When it was last in Tampa, as a matter of fact.

Right, it was the last time I was in Tampa was the game between Pittsburgh and Arizona. And he came on the set upset at me because he thought I called Arizona the worst playoff team in the history of the playoffs, which, you know, because they struggled going into the playoffs, but still made the Super Bowl. And he thought it was me, but it was really Chris Collinsworth. He was staring a hole through me during the commercial break. And I'm like, what gives?

I'll never play. Hey Wiz. Nobody beats the Wiz. Yeah, go on, man. But anyway, Gus Radley, that's a - you know, my first thought on Gus Bradley being hired is it's going to be difficult for him.

Because, you know, I don't think he's used to having less energy than the head coach. Yeah, good idea. Boy, do you think they'll be bouncing off the walls there with Gruden and Gus Bradley? Good hire. I like that hire a lot.

Nose in Division II, he was available because he and the rest of the staff in the Los Angeles Chargers got the gate. Chargers didn't You know, lose games this year because their defense wasn't prepared or ready to go, man. I think that's a really good hire. Gus Bradley, an energetic guy, former head coach, sitting right there. I like that hire.

And I like. By the way, everybody from the Seattle P. Carroll coaching staff got a gig yesterday. I like the hire of Dan Quinn. Is the new defensive coordinator?

Dallas. DQ is now the DC in Dallas. I'm coming back as a coach. What do you mean? What does that mean?

Because you can get fired. What do you mean coming back? You can't get coming back from you. You've lost it all your life. You're fired and hired within like days.

It's like the only job, and I always, we talk about this all the time. It's the only job. that you c you get. You don't do well. And you get another job.

Like if I suck You don't keep me in this position. You fire me. A head coach, like a coach. Think about it. I'm sorry I couldn't hear because the batteries just went out on my airpad.

Did I put new batteries in this morning? He's got a point. I always argue this. And it's like, I mean, I love him because I'm friends with so many coaches. I mean, we mooch, I love, but it's like.

I think that's nuts. That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying is that there are, again. There are obviously results. Results are wins and losses.

And the results are: is my microphone on? Is it not? How does it sound? Is it not? But there are certain circumstances, it's a team effort.

You know what I mean? Like, Mooch didn't forget how to coach. No, no, no, no, no. Another perfect example, too. You know, uh, That everybody has friends in the business, in every business.

And if that friend actually takes a job and he and she wants to hire you, you know, they'll call you first because we had a good experience together, so on and so forth. But, you know, I'm kind of defending the coaching profession here in a way. Is that there are certain circumstances that go down that are out of a coach's control? Yeah, I'm sure Doug Peterson will sit whatever the hell happened in Philadelphia. I'm Doug Peterson's like I won the Super Bowl two years ago.

I have not forgotten how to coach. You know, I know how to press buttons when things are going well and the offensive line isn't like a mass unit and we lose my top two receiver and I'm playing. You know, not everyone from Old Dominion does as well as Travis Fulgham, unless your name is Taylor Heineke. You know, I mean, like. Doug didn't give Carson Wentz $100 million.

And Doug Peterson stuck with Carson Wentz way. much longer than you would think. People ordinarily would.

So you don't know what was going on there for Doug Peterson. It's not like he sucks. No, no, no. That he blew the job or, you know what I mean? I say it more as a joke because I mean, it's funny that a coach will do bad.

And then get a job. And then get a job with like two seconds. It's like in most professions. Like we suck. You're done.

By Mike Nolan. At in Dallas. I have no idea what went on there. But when you've got a bunch of players who are used to a certain scheme, and then you come in and say, This is my scheme, and you say, Well, coaches should change the scheme to benefit, you know, to fit the players that they have.

Well, he's been brought in, this is the scheme that he's been using forever.

So when you hire that person, this is what you hire them to do, and it doesn't mesh with the players, then all of a sudden Dak Prescott needs to score 50 before he breaks his leg for you to have a chance to win. And Mike Nolan hasn't forgotten how to coach. It's just. A bad fit. There are bad fits.

You just happen to be a great fit wherever you go, Mike. And if you're not, you just tell everyone you are, and they believe it. No, no, no. I don't fit well everywhere. You haven't seen me in a coach seat.

You know, I mean And for instance, another one, another perfect example. Chan Gailey, I have no idea what the hell happened. With him in Miami, right? No idea. Um When Tua was in Arizona, going toe-to-toe with Kyler Murray in one of the more exciting games of the year to that point in time.

And Tua had that third quarter drive where he was hitting on every throw, and people were open, and he was dynamite. I came on this show and saying, what a story this is in the NFL. Chan Gailey was out of football.

Now he's back, and now he's saddled up hip to hip with one of the top prospects for an organization that allegedly. tanked for him and and here they are. Worked out. Then it went to crap.

Now he's out of a job. Did he forget how to coach? Is it a bad mix? What was going on behind the scenes? Did he and Tua not relate in a certain way?

Is it possible that he wasn't talking to his language? There's so much going on there. And now The channels out.

Now The conversation That gets louder with each passing day, that Tua has nothing to deal with. He is trash. According to many members of our talent evaluation community and the Twitterverse. Literally, like he's finished in Miami. Like the Miami Dolphins missed on him.

Justin Herbert is a clear, sure fire hit, and Tua is not. And he is going to be on the move. Deshaun's like, Deshaun Watson smelling blood in the water. He wants out where he is, and he thinks Miami would definitely take him because, you know, look at Tua.

So, Houston will take two. I'll go there. I'll now. Live in South Florida. And take photographs like the ones that I put on Instagram every day of the week as opposed to just during the offseason.

And that's what I'll do. And people are like, that makes sense. Let's make this trade. And then Why was two uh on everyone's mind last night? Because Mac Jones looked like The world beater that he was last night.

And even Tua didn't look like that. Tua had some great games, but I don't know if they looked like what Mac Jones had last night against the Ohio State. Mac Jones was throwing receivers open. Mac Jones was throwing a wide open receivers. Mac Jones didn't miss many throws.

Mac, who was on the show yesterday, said that when he showed up. In Alabama for the first time, he said it was 170 pounds soaking wet. Look what he's become right now.

So now it's, I even saw some takes last night that Mac Jones. proves that Toole wasn't worth where Miami took him. I saw that. Matt Jones is also throwing to First round receivers, handing off to the bottom of the running back. But so is Tua.

Come on. Wasn't Tua throwing at Calvin Ridley? I mean, wasn't Tua was. I don't even know off the top of my head who Tua was throwing to, other than the fact that all you got to do is look up the last three drafts and he was throwing at all of them: Ruggs, name it, Judy. Before he got hurt.

Neighbor. And some of the times, Alabama was playing, points were tough. Not like last night. Not like last night. Ohio State had some injuries.

They did. COVID issues, but. The discussion about Alabama playing an NFL team came up last night, too. All I'm saying is, it's just nuts to me. That we're sitting here saying, that's part of the reason why I want to have Daniel on here.

It's also nuts, just in the last, I think this is something in the last 10 to 15 years about. We're judging this guy off one ear. It's his rookie season. Aaron Rodgers sat for three years before he got a chance to start. These guys are thrown in right away, and suddenly we're just saying they're trash.

Like, let these guys develop, let these guys learn the NFL. What's interesting to me is we thought going into the draft last year, and certainly into this year. that When quarterbacks are drafted at the top of a draft one and two, those are the quarterbacks that get connected at the hip for a long time to come. Jameis and Mariota, Goff and Wentz, Luck and RG3, just as some examples off the top of my head here.

So we thought it would be Burrow and Tua. But now that we've hit this offseason, it's Tua and Herbert. They were chosen back-to-back. Herbert was dynamite. And tour was up and down and was pulled twice.

Herbert wasn't pulled at all. As a matter of fact, he was doing the pushing. not getting pulled. That's the combination that's going to be connected for a long time to come. And Again.

Herbert Is Excellent. He is outstanding. He has Keenan freaking Allen. who is top 10 receiver in the NFL. He is the word sublime comes to mind for him.

Okay. Mike Williams, Hunter Henry. He's got a running game with Eckler. After Gordon left. With, you know, they pick up Calem Balaj.

I mean, they had an Justin Jackson, they've running back really good receivers. We know about Miles Gaskin because we had him in fantasy. Outside of that, what are we talking about? Ahmed and Brita. I mean, and you know, and I know.

The receivers, Devontae Parker, had a nice few weeks of a run. Gasicki was Tour's You know, security blanket, and he was doing very well. I can't understand the Tua is trash. Sentiment. And that the Dolphins are, if they could get out of it right now, they would.

I don't get it. I don't understand it. I mean, Don getting artistic with these photos. The sun setting on Tuesday. To his back, I don't know.

Yeah, very good. Very nice.

So we'll talk about that with Daniel Jeremiah in a moment. We've got a few minutes here. We didn't have time for it yesterday. Are you ready to hit me with all the reaction Monday? Let's hit Olmo Reaction Monday here on a Tuesday on the Rich Isen Show.

That was terrible. That was crap. That was garbage. That place sucks. Overreaction.

Tuesday. Tuesday. They yelling it in. Look at that! I didn't know that was added on there.

And you say that you wouldn't get another job. Wow. You want to be my way tech, though.

Okay, so these are leftover from the weekend, right?

So I know we talked about this yesterday a bunch, but Mike Tomlin choked punting on fourth and one. That's not an overreaction. I know it's twenty twenty hindsight, but Choked is a very difficult word for me, also, to swallow, if you will. That's the Boston and you coming out right there. Um I I I don't understand it.

I mean The math alone, and I'm not really much of an analytics person, but you, you know. You're you're down 12 You can't afford to lose another step. You've got to go for it. But This was The lack of the run game Coming home to roost. and then the defense being a shadow of itself.

Because Bud Dupree and Devin Bush and the other injuries on that. side and I understand that the Browns have the same amount of injuries, and that this is a war of attrition in the playoffs. But clearly, Tomlin. They, they, you know, back in the old days, let's turn to the bus, let's turn to Bell. Let's, I mean, honestly, the Steelers had no run game that they had confidence in, of which to speak with the ultimate respect to James Conner and the coach sitting there saying, let's punt it.

And play defense, really. I mean, it made no, I guess he felt like he had a great third quarter. Let's punt it. And I thought that the Vrabelpunt decision as well to give it back to the Ravens was a poor decision, too. And I thought it at the time.

Those are some wild card weekend second guesses that I think are not overreactions. Let's talk about the quarterback, number seven. Ben Rothesberger has played his final game with Stevens. I don't think that's an overreaction either, and I think he was thinking it too. Have you ever seen Big Ben in tears after a season ending last?

Never. And Pouncey coming over, and the two of them, the NFL Films, picked up a Brotherhood of Men conversation between the two of them. You know, Pouncey apologized to Ben, and Ben apologized to Pouncey saying, I came back because of you. I mean, that sort of stuff. I I wouldn't be surprised.

I wouldn't be surprised. He's got one year left that's got a ton of cat ramifications to it. He said he wants to talk about it. They might. But if he retires, that would kind of put the Steelers off the hook.

That said, big. And if I had told a Browns fan, hey, guess what? Big Ben would top 500 yards passing with a touchdown pass to Claypool with four minutes to go. You think you're going to win or lose? I think you're going to be able to do that.

But Browns fan would say, we lose. Oh, right, right, right.

So Ben, you know, it was just an awful first quarter they couldn't come out from, which again makes it not an overreaction about that punt. His picks were just brutal. I know, but he still threw for 500 yards, and I think he had to because they were down. I think, though, but he still has the ability to. Nobody's sitting here saying his arm strength is this, that, the other thing.

Yeah. But skills might be diminished. He's still a better option than anybody else they have on their roster. Who would they get? They'd have to trade for somebody.

Yeah, like Sam Darnold. Their car? The Sean Watton. Please. In their dreams.

In their dreams. Speaking of the Browns, guys, the Browns. Are going to go into Arrowhead and upset the Chiefs. Yeah, that's an overreaction. Chill be.

That's an overreaction. They have the. You know, you never see. Run the ball. Hey, Kareem Hunt looked good.

Big Chubb. They have. They have. the tools to do it. I'm not saying it's impossible.

I'm not saying they're not going to do it. But to sit here and say they're gonna do it is to me an overreaction. That said, You know, Mahomes and um And Baker Mayfield are still putting points up from the game that they played against each other in the Big 12. In Big 12 country, this game's taking place. Mayfield and Mahomes, look up that game when Texas Tech took on Oklahoma.

Holy crap. I can't wait to see this matchup. And Mayfield is a thousand yards of offense. And we'll talk about it further on in the week. Mayfield's a wild card in this one.

He can put up a 300-yard game and they can run the football. They can absolutely win this game. For the moment, though, I'm going to call it an overreaction. All right, next up, we're going to get... Saints Bucks Three To end divisional round, Tom Brady's going to get his revenge.

And win this game. That's not over yet. He really struggled in the two games against him. He sure did. He shot down some of the games.

He sure did. That was. An impressive W, man. That was an impressive W. That Washington football team defense, much better than Atlanta's and Detroit's.

And those are the eats that Brady was feasting on in December. Uh absent. That's not an overreaction at all. If I'm a Saints fan, I am genuinely concerned. I am genuinely concerned about this.

Brady's playing great right now. There I'm genu but you know Later on this week, I'm going to give you a Saints, if you will, not so becoming secret weapon anymore that's going to. Oh. That's a little tease. I'm going to do four downs tomorrow.

Okay. And I'll make that part of my four downs. But it's going to be a dynamite game that's going to be unlike the previous two. And even to the benefit of the Saints as well, offensively. But so that's not an overreaction.

All right, last one before we get to Daniel Jeremiah. Lamar Jackson, guys, silenced his critics with the first playoff. No doubt. You haven't said a word. I have them.

You own his critics. I am. He doesn't say a word. And guess what, man? This game 10-zip.

It wasn't looking good. Lamar threw an interception. It wasn't looking good. And it's 10-0. And just like the previous year.

Where the Titans got out to a double-digit lead to start. And the Ravens only counter with a field goal, which is what they did.

Okay, with Justin Tucker, who missed one for Crying Out Loud. That's one from 500.

Okay, Norma Munny missed one. And then on third down. From midfield. It all changed in a flash. And it was when number eight.

Got out the gate and see you later. Made a move on, I think it was Keith Bayard, like left him standing in his shoes. See ya. Over. Done.

He didn't do that the previous two years. And the game wasn't the same after that. Titans made a game of it. Had a chance. Had a chance.

Had a big-time chance, but they punted it away, and then Lamar was making his throws. And I'll tell you, and then we'll get to break. When the Ravens offense is cooking. As they did in the second half after Lamar took off. The Ravens' offense is cooking when you have no earthly idea.

Who the people in the backfield are either a runner, A passer? A blocker? You have no idea. You have no earthly idea or a decoy. You have no idea.

The mesh point. If you can't stop it with a human being, if you can't have one person that's gonna blow it up. And You can't Figure out your assignments, and you have no idea. Is the fullback going to be the one coming out for a receiver? Who's going to be a passer, a runner, a blocker, or a receiver?

You have no idea. And that's what the Ravens were doing, cooking with gas. If they do that to the Bills, they're making the AFC championship game. They are making the AFC championship. Talk about if the Ravens go on and make the Super Bowl, they'll have won three straight road games against really good football teams and really good quarterbacks.

Correct. And they'll have earned it. They'll have earned it. But That's when this offense is working. And it's difficult to establish that when you're down by 14, 18, 20 points, which is why the Chiefs.

can beat him. And have. Let's take a break here on the Rich Isaac Show. Daniel Jeremiah, who played last night that deserves first-round status? And that whole Tua versus Herbert conversation where Tua is the perennial loser now, that's coming up.

Our friends here in Southern California as well. You're listening to us on NBC. Uh, sports audio on SiriusXM Channel 211, and my buddy from NFL Network, the NFL Media Group, Daniel Jeremiah. Back here on The Rich Island Show. How are you, DJ?

I'm doing great, Rich. How are you doing, man? I'm great. Best player on the field last night is fill in the blank. I would say Devontae Smith was the best player on the field, but I would say the running back didn't hurt himself either.

Jay Harris was pretty fantastic as well.

So you know better than most, DJ, that the NFL values playmakers. And we see matchup nightmare playmakers make such a big difference. And Devontae Smith clearly would be that. But. He's not one of those big, tall, physical receivers.

You normally don't see anybody that's flirting with 6'1 and 200 pounds. uh chosen top ten in the draft. Is that going to change this year? What do you think? I don't like I think there's a chance he could go in the top ten, but I don't I think he would be probably closer to the bottom of the top ten.

When you mentioned it, I mean, when you look at guys historically, you're talking about the Larry Fitzgeralds, the Andre Johnsons, the Calvin Johnsons, like these guys are freaks. Um that go up there. And this is the other argument that's going to be tough for Devontae Smith in the room this year. Rich, look at this last year. I'm going to give you the receivers that were taken in the second round, and you tell me who's the bad player.

It's T. Higgins, Michael Pittman, LaVisca Chennault, K. J. Handler, Chase Claypool, Van Jefferson, Denzel Mims. Find the bad player in that group.

So you're saying that teams can get extreme value at the position by not burning a first-round selection. Correct. On him. But I mean, you see. Like, if you need an offensive line, if you need an offensive tackle and you need a receiver.

you have to take the tackle before the receiver because the drop off from the tackle group in Tier one to Tier two is always enormous. While the the drop off really you could argue there isn't hasn't been much of one when you can get guys like Chase Claypool and Michael Pittman and T. Higgins in the second round.

So, okay, so that's the evaluation of him. What about the evaluation of the quarterbacks? From last night. What about those guys? Yeah, well, let's start with the winner there in Mac Jones.

Mac Jones is going to challenge some thinking because. If you look at the the quarterbacks that have been success, the younger that have been successful, the younger guys, right? They all can move. They're all athletic, and they have to be able to be able to get away from some trouble, you know, because the offensive line play in the NFL. Is not great.

So when you look at the quarterbacks that haven't had success, the younger guys, and look, different people, I get that. But when you look at Josh Rosen, not the most mobile guy, Dwayne Haskins, not the most mobile guy. That's been kind of the way the league is going. Mac Jones, not the greatest athlete in the world. But How accurate he was, the decision-making, the processing speed, it was off the charts.

The good news for him, I think he's going to have a good shot to go in the first round. And the better news for him is it probably would be towards the back half of the first round, which would mean he'd go to a place with better better football team, better offensive line, more players. And when you look at the draft, I think we know up to pick twenty four now, Rich.

So, when you look at teams like Indianapolis at 21 and you look at Pittsburgh at 24. Those to me make a lot of sense for somebody like Mac Jones from what we saw last night. Right. And you also had the Jets sitting there at 23 with the Seahawks pick that they got in the Jamal Adams trade, but I want to put a pin in that in a second. Unless you want to unpin it with the conversation with Justin Fields right now.

No, I I I think, look, the Jets They have to make the decision if it's Sam or somebody else. To me, I know we've talked about this a little bit before about the potential of maybe take the quarterback with pick twenty-three. Maybe you wait around there. To me, I think the decision will come down to it's either Sam or you're going to take one of those quarterbacks there at number two. And the decision is going to come down to more than likely.

Justin Fields versus Zach Wilson.

So that to me would be the decision there. Justin Fields played out of his mind. in the Clemson game. Was more, you know, look, didn't play as nearly as well last night against Alabama, but I. I saw in the pregame they said 95% that he was 95% healthy.

Did you buy that, Rich? He did not look like he was 95% healthy to me. I mean, he wasn't bad, he played okay. But he did not look like he was 100% off.

Well, what he was doing is going against the best competition he's seen all year. Trey Sermon going out pretty much damn near right away couldn't have helped at all. But I guess the question is: if you, let's give you the floor here. You have to make an evaluation. Sam Darnold or Justin Fields, what do you do?

What do you do? I'm going to go door number three and go Zach Wilson.

Okay. I like I mean, to me, right now and there's a lot more to do here, I would say Zach Wilson right now is ahead of Justin Fields as a player right now, in my opinion.

Now Justin Fields, there's more meat on the bone there. I think there's more growth potential and more upside. You're hoping for a Josh Allen type deal with him where it's just you're going to get him and every year, he's going to get a little bit better and his best is yet to come. Um but I think Zach Wilson is is a better football player right now than Justin Fields is.

So that to me is going to be a a kind of an hour later type discussion in the draft room with those two guys. And I would I would go fresh. To answer the Sam Darnold versus the draft guys, I'm hiring a new coach through the Jets, and I'm going to start the clock over with a new quarterback. And it's kind of ushering in hopefully a newer, more successful era of Jets football.

Well, in terms of that, too, Robert Sala is being flown in for a second interview. Can you read how they're going to be able to do that? And now Doug Peterson's available. And I saw your Twitter skirmishes of you saying how that's a great fit. And you know, Joe Douglas is from the Eagles organization.

They must know each other very well. What do you think about Peterson as being a fit with the Jets and how that would read into? Darnold, I guess maybe Peterson will have had enough of trying to rehabilitate a top draft choice that the city is wondering if he's lost his touch. I wonder what you think about all that. Daniel.

Well, it's a lot it's a lot to unpack, and I'm glad you brought it up, Rich, because as it turns out, Jets fans can be a little prickly on the old social media. They did not they did not enjoy me referencing Doug Peterson, which And I try not to get involved in those skirmishes, Rich. I do my best to not get involved. But when people are comparing, oh, we're going to hire another fired coach, just like we did with Adam Gates, I missed the time where Adam Gates won the Super Bowl in Miami. Maybe I fell asleep that year, but I don't recall him having that success that Doug Peterson had.

So that's not comparable. All I was saying with Doug Peterson, I think two things. I think he's a good football coach. I don't think he forgot how to coach this year. It was a terrible year, no doubt.

But I do think he's a good football coach, and I know that there's a good relationship there with him and Joe. They get along well and they won a Super Bowl together. I'm not saying that jumps him to the front of the line. I'm not saying that he's a favorite. I'm saying that he's somebody that would be under consideration.

It would stand to reason. because of their history together. Robert Sala to me, Man, Rich, if we go with the opposite theory, which is you always hire the opposite of who you just fired, that would point directly to Robert Sala. You go from an offensive guy to a defensive guy. You go to somebody who's a little bit of a recluse to somebody who's a front-of-the-room, chest-out, energetic presence.

I mean, he's literally like the polar opposite of Adam Gates in every way imaginable.

So that to me makes a lot of sense for them potentially going in that direction.

So I know he's up there for a second interview. There's seven teams now looking for coaches. The Eagles are trying to set something up with Sala. If they really, really feel like he's the guy, I think it'd probably be a smart move to get him locked in. Daniel Jeremiah here on The Rich Eisen Show.

I want to ask you, I forgot to ask you the last time you were here, but now I'll ask it here. Certainly, since. There was a lot of conversation last night from some parts of our world about Tua and how, once again, now he's no longer the darling of the Dolphins organization or anybody who knows anything about the NFL because Mac Jones looked the way that he looked. And it's been a while since we've seen Tua look that way and the way that he got polled twice for. Fitzmagic and the fact that again that Uh, Herbert has looked as well as he is.

That this is over. We're calling this an over situation, certainly when you're comparing him to Herbert. Dolphins made a mistake. I even saw Pro Football Focus with a mock draft after last night saying that the Dolphins would take Justin Fields right now over Tua. What is your evaluation of Tua right now as a Dolphins quarterback and a quarterback in the NFL?

based on everything you're hearing. I think everybody just needs to slow down. Like, just slow down. Let's not turn this. Turn the jury card in here on this one.

I mean, I think sometimes people think that. because you played at a big program, that you'd have less of an adjustment to the NFL. And I think sometimes it can actually work the opposite way. This is the first time in Tua's life. You know, he was at a powerhouse program in Hawaii, he was at Alabama.

It's the first time in his football career where he's had to line up and take a snap. and look across the field where the guys on the other side are better than the guys he's got. It's the first time.

So there's an adjustment period with that. And I think you look at Mac Jones having success and people saying that discounts. What Tua did. I don't necessarily buy that. I think they need to get some players around him, get some playmakers there in Miami, and then get an offense there that can cut him loose a little bit.

And I think he'll be fine. I think he's going to be a good player. I'm not ready to punt on him.

Now, Is he as physically gifted as Justin Herbert? No, no. And Justin Herbert is a commanding lead in that one. And he can do things that Tua will never be able to do just because of his sheer size, arm strength and athleticism.

So, if you want to say they made a mistake, they should have taken Justin Herbert, I think that's a fair conversation you can have and say what we've seen from Justin Herbert. I think you probably, it definitely leans strongly in that being the correct answer. But I'm not going to make the leap and say this guy just can't play. He's not any good. I'm not doing that.

So, I guess if you say that they need to upgrade the players around him, it's great that they've got the third overall selection.

So, let's just say. That Trevor Lawrence goes where he goes to the Jaguars, and the Jets do go quarterback.

So it goes quarterback, quarterback. Who do you think the Dolphins should take third overall with this in mind? Unless it's just the best player available, screw it, we're going to throw somebody on defense. And that'll help out. What do you think the Dolphins do third overall as we're sitting here with college done?

What do you think? Well, I I've talked about receivers, how you can find them in the second round, and we talked about Devontae Smith, and I think this is going to be the case this year, Rich, where you're going to have guys that you forgot existed. Because they didn't play this last year in the weird year that we were in. Let me just remind everybody, Jamar Chase, the last time we saw Jamar Chase, he caught 84 balls for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns, averaged 21.2 yards per catch. He's bigger, stronger, and faster.

Then Devontae Smith, he is a phenomenal player. And so when I'm talking about taking a receiver up there, I want somebody that has some of those freak qualities. That would qualify. How about that? This is amazing.

So, what about Waddle? That'll be fun, man. Yeah, no. What about Waddle? What's your evaluation of him and limping around last night pre-game and going?

What do you think about that? I sent somebody a text connected to the Alabama program and said, What are they doing with him out there? Get him off the field. Like, what is going on? And I got back that he met with whoever did the surgery was one of the most renowned doctors in the country.

That he was, you know, while it was a pain issue, there was not a stability issue. He was in no danger. He wanted to play.

So I got kind of the defense of why he was out there because I don't know how you are, but I'm watching this going, hey, they don't need him. They're going to blow the doors off Ohio State without him. And he does not look like he's healthy out there. I just want to protect what's best for him and his future. And it sounded like that was, you know, that that had been cleared medically.

And there's also a lot of talk that he could end up going back to Alabama, which. Incredible because he's a phenomenal talent. He was nowhere near 100%. You could tell that last night, but when he's 100%, Bomb. I know I guess on underclassmen, I I'm not allowed to say How high they would go.

But I would say, Rich, he would definitely only need to pack one suit if he goes to Cleveland.

Well, you know, my eye test, it looked like he was limping around. And then, you know, we just showed while you were going through your take on screen a host of NFL stars saying, what the hell is he doing out there? Sit down. I mean, Mahomes, with an exclamation point, retweeting Darius Leonard's. Take that he should not be playing, that you can't let him be out there.

So, I saw all that. And, you know, and that's just again, it's a COVID-19 season. Kids are just going to think that they're world beaters and that their opportunity may never come again. I don't know. And so, there's a push-pull that clearly Waddle won and got out there.

And, you know, as you said, he'll still be needing to only pack one suit for the draft.

Okay, so I guess put it all in perspective. Uh now that the season is done and And everything's going on. What do you think? Are you hearing what I'm hearing, that the Combine is up in the air? Right now, Daniel, from your...

Your colleagues? Are you hearing that? Yeah, everybody's wa everybody's waiting to see, right? Everybody's waiting to see. You hear rumors flying all over the place in terms of what it's going to look like.

Is it going to happen? Is it going to be something that ends up getting kind of regionalized? Is it going to be totally canceled where we just rely on pro days? I've heard a lot of different theories and takes here over the last. Last couple weeks.

Hopefully, we'll get an answer here, you know, pretty soon, Rich. But I know one thing: I've got, as we're talking here, I've got the tape open and I have I got enough to keep me busy. I'm sure. I'm sure. And then, who's the kid from last night we haven't talked about?

That's flashing. That that's gonna Is it Is it uh well, I mean, Barmore played really well, the defensive tackle for Alabama, Christian Barmore, who's who's one of those guys. When I studied him, he was a tough evaluation because he has some.

some up and down tape. There's some games where he doesn't really do a whole lot, and then you see what you saw last night where he can completely dominate.

So he's one if he went to the combines, he probably put on a show with all the testing and how athletic he is. But he's been inconsistent. But man, if you're going to pick and choose and be up and down, I guess you want to have your ups on the national championship stage. That's probably the time to do it. DJ, you're the man.

Thanks for the call. Really appreciate it. I'm going to be reaching out to you quite a bit as we're now in the talent evaluation portion of the NFL calendar with college and for everybody but eight teams.

So thanks for the call. Appreciate it. Just so you know, Rich, if something happens with the combine, I'll come up there and we can time you outside the studio if we have to. Yeah, I know. I've got to have a plan B for that.

We've got to figure something out on that. But I appreciate that, Daniel. And you're always there for me, and I greatly appreciate it. See you, boys. Take care.

That's Daniel Jeremy at MoveTheSticks. He and Bucky Brooks have a podcast by that name as well that you should check out. NFL media pod.

So much to unpack right there. I've got a couple of thoughts I want to hit you on that when we come back here on the Rich Eyes and showing a little bit more on the Philadelphia Eagles situation. We are standing outside the world famous Roxy on Sunset Boulevard here in Los Angeles, California, and it's time to go inside and rock out with Steel Panther, but I've got to put the rig back on again.

Let's go inside. For one night at the Roxy, there's a new member of Steel Panther. It's rich, eyes. Oh my god, eyeliner, I'm not used to this. That's not enough?

You look metal. No, but I have my job.

That's not Lexi Fox. It's not Lexi Fox. Yeah I am. No you're not. You're not what you're not.

Look at me. That's Rich Eisen. That's Rich Eisen. But the Rich Eisen show, that's not Lexi. Box?

Dude, that'll be huge. Fan, I love your work! Right back at you! Amazing, but you're fired! You suck on bass.

Makes a noise for the imposter, Rich Isaac. How'd that happen? Richard. Great job, Rich. That was so that happened that was you.

You made reference to it last week. That's what people looked at when they saw Nate Sutfeld on Sunday night before they wasn't doing her. Yeah, well, That was so funny. Ah. Uh Oh man.

Yeah. One of the best. This is like Nate Senfelt. Back here on the Rich Eisen show, everybody. 844-204, Rich is the number to dial here on the show.

Very, very funny.

So the Jets, if Daniel Jeremiah took and had choose a quarterback, he'd take Zach Wilson. He'd take the kid from BYU right now. Over Sam Darnold or Justin Fields. Oh my gosh. Bring the kid from BYU in, and he said he'd be like Josh Allen.

I'm in. In. In. Yeah, in. Tell me in.

And then you find a taker for Darnold. But you'd get a two for him. You put Darnold on the market to all those quarterback hungry teams. I think you could get a second round. I think you can, absolutely.

I think that's fair. No way. What do you mean, no way? A third, probably. What are you talking about?

Sam Donald was for 17 weeks. You said this man is broken. Let me give everybody. The next few weeks and months From Jets fans. to everybody.

Okay. And it's gonna be, we are Hey Jets fans, get limber, whatever you're gonna do, do some yoga. Take whatever, you know, whatever antioxidants to cut down on any joint pain or anything like that, the ginkgo baloba. What is that? I don't know.

Some ginseng. We gotta do it because we are about to contort ourselves quite a pretzel, all right? Because on one hand We are going to be spending the next few weeks certainly. You know, with A choice with Zach Wilson and what's going on with Justin Fields. And when the new coach gets hired, they're going to be asked this question.

And the new coach is going to practice the whole thing, I just got here. I can't wait to meet Sam. And, you know, we'll make that evaluation when we make it. I know it's a tough thing. He's been here for a few years.

Can't give you any answers on that. That'll create a whole thing about, so the Jets are really, they've got to keep the market up. In the event that they don't Keep him, right? The market's got to be sky high. This is going to be a whole, this is going to be threatening a needle.

So The concept is this from Jets fans. After, and this, we would have been well practiced in this by now if Trevor Lawrence was coming because that would have definitely happened.

So, in the same way that we got to move on, he's not the answer here. Same way that we have to move on, even though he's a great kid and a great face to franchise, and it's not his fault at all. My God, it's not his fault at all. He was not supported here. He was not.

Surrounded by the proper players. There was a coaching change and a general manager change in the middle of all this stuff. You're supposed to have all that in place. When you draft a kid, so you can win the Super Bowl before you got to pay him for a second contract, didn't happen, wasn't even close to happening. He got mono, he hurt his shoulder, he hurt his ankle.

It was just terrible. Seeing ghosts, that happened. Ha ha.

So He's not the answer. And then when it's decided he's not the answer officially. We may not know that publicly, but when it's decided officially, when we as a fan base know and feel that he's definitely not going to be there anymore. Boy, are we going to talk him up and pump him for the Heisman? He is worth.

Everything that the Jets want. He is worried by the time we'll have talked him back into first-round status. When it's all said and done, would these teams give up their second-round pick for Sam Darnold? Washington at 51? Oh, we could keep going on and on and on.

Chicago, 52, Indy 54, Pittsburgh, 55. Absolutely. Name them all. What are the Niners? What's the Niners?

43.

Okay, here we go. Like, look at him. That photograph we just showed. That was when he ran one in like he was Lamar Jackson against the Broncos. He's mobile.

He's smart. He's great in the community. He's a great. Locker room guy, oh he took all the hits. Took all the questions.

He's a stand-up guy. He's Sam Darnold, worthy of your second-round selection in this draft, if not maybe even a one, based on all. The competition that we can create, but he's he's he's not viable for the Jets anymore. Can he slam the rock? That's the only question he can ask.

He can sling it. He can sling it. He can throw it. He can hand it off. My gosh, have you seen him the way he hands it off?

I mean, like, we are going to have to. Just contort ourselves, and we'll have to figure out when it's time to pivot because the Jets might actually hold on to them, and then we're going to have to come to grips. Like, what if they hire a new coach that some of the fan base is like, what are we hiring him for? What if Doug Peterson comes in and says, we're sticking with Sam Darnold? Oh my God.

That'd be on brand. Oh my gosh. Would that be something? This guy doesn't know nothing. We saw what he did with Carson Wentz.

Who the hell is this guy? Philly's special my ass. Like, it's literally all over the year. Fucking playoff? What?

What? But, but, but. What? Peterson might be that right fit to rehabilitate Sam Darnold. And you use the second overall pick to get him some more protection or weaponry, or the second first-round selection could be a guy to get somebody for him.

And then the last name that DJ mentioned as a. Second round wide receiver chosen in last year's draft was Mims from Baylor, who was one of the many guys, again, that was supposed to help evaluate Darnold this year, who couldn't answer the bell due to his problems. Staying healthy.

So You know, there's many different ways to go. But DJ pointing out the kid from BYU is talented enough that he would take him over Darnold now out of the sake of a fresh start. New GM, hiring his coach, fresh start. Here we go. And then the auction for Sam Darnold starts.

And after all of us saying all year long, we want Trevor, now we're not getting Trevor.

Now we're going to have. Basically, Jets fans are going to turn into, become Mormons by the end of the year, by the time the draft is coming. And we're all trying to, you know, we'll love Donnie and Marie and, you know, Mitt Rami. And we're just, we're just going to, you know, we love Steve Young and Brigham Young and every Young, you know. Honestly, we'll go crazy.

Like if they turn, if the Jets decide it's the kid from BYU, we will go absolutely crazy. Like Utah will become the adopted state of New York Jets fans, and then it'll be, yeah, that's Darnold guy that we just, it wasn't the answer anymore. How the hell are we not going to get a second for him? Do you know how good he is? Do you know how good he was when we had an idea about him?

That's coming for Jets fans. We're going to have to really contort ourselves. Yeah. Chris Brockman's news update coming up, and the actor Bruce Greenwood in hour number three here on The Rich Eisen Show. Yeah.

That's funny. It's coming. That's funny. Sean Young. Oh, by the way, Sean Young.

Chase Young. I mean, Chase Young would have been nice. Sean Young, let's talk Sean Young. And Sean Young from Wall Street. Oh.

Sean Young from Ghostbusters. Sean Young. No way out. From no way out. Holler at your boy.

Oh, well done, man. Holler at your boy. Oh, yeah. H'ventura. Sean, please clip that.

H Ventura. All of those Peters, baby. There you go. For all the toastitos. For all the tostitos, baby.

You have the Brock Meyer version of that? Jets fans, a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll. That's your Donnie and Marie reference for the day. Here we go, baby. We're going to love everything to do with anything that Zach Wilson wants.

If the Jets decide that that's the guy. And we'll see all the film. Honestly, I would bet you. The average number of minutes if you round down. That Jets fans have watched a BYU football is zero.

Not one second. And by the way, I'm not talking about 2020, I mean of all time. The number of BYU football games that Jets fans have watched, average the time and then round down, that number would be zero. Full blue Tarski, 0.0. That will be it.

0. point Thank you, Dean. That's kind of, I mean, we're. Get ready. It's not rational.

I'm not saying it's rational. None of it is rational. Because we don't know the answer. Honestly. You just got to beat Trust Joe Douglas, who everybody tells me is a dynamite.

We haven't had him on the show. I can't wait to have him. He's probably avoiding me, but um, you know. The choice that you can make. There he is.

There he is, the future New York Jet star, Broadway Zach. Mm-hmm. Wait till they find out how old he is. They think he's going to be like 21. 32.

Wait till they find out how old BYU quarterbacks are. What are we talking about? What? How old is he? Wait, he's older than Sam Donald?

What do we trade away Donald for? Like, it's all coming. It's not rational. Snow actually not a Bruce Greenwood coming up here on The Rich Eisen Show.
