Where you just don't act. Professionally, and then you get to go where you want to go after them. The Rich Eisen Show. The guys are all in. They've all said the right things.
That's what you needed to hear. Earlier on the show. Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist Tony Baselli. Coming up. Actor Josh Charles.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. Plus, your phone calls, four downs, and more. And now. And Yeah. Rich Ice in.
All right. Hour number two of the Rich Rising Show is on the air. Our friend, Josh Charles, the voice of America's game on NFL Network, the voice. Of that great series. Die Hard Ravens fan.
He's going to be joining this show. Enjoyed his work. For so many years in the good wife, and obviously going way back in the day to Dead Poets Society.
Well, maybe we'll talk. I've never talked to Josh about that. Maybe we'll hit that later on in about 20 minutes with Joshua. But he's all about this Ravens game, all about this Ravens-Bills game that appears to be. A snow divisional Playoff game, baby.
Great, man. And that means two things, two great things when snow is in the forecast for a playoff game. One is you know it's just going to be. Epic. Because when the NFL plays in the snow, right?
It's the only sport that plays in the snow. Unless those hockey classics might be in the snow. Yeah, they don't care. A Yankee opening day once was in the snow. Remember, Pettit was pitching between the snowflakes?
The Rockies. Right. Hold on a minute, put a pin in that. I just want to finish my thought here. Um is that You know it's just gonna be epic.
The snow game. As it's referred to in New England, the tuck rule game, as it's known everywhere else in the football universe, just epic lights down snow. It's amazing. It's amazing. That's what's coming Saturday night.
And then you also know that the Friday before that Saturday night game on the Rich Eisen Show will be a Mike Del Tufo weather report, and that's what's coming up in hour number three. It's fantastic. No, it may not be as bad as you think. The only person, here's the thing: okay, great tease, great teas. That's how I tease it.
Great teas. Tease. And then, you know, because the best part about the Mike Del Tufo weather reports, for those who might be watching on NBC Sports on Peacock, a new, like, we have an this year, we have a new audience in many different ways because we're on it. We're in a different television partner, NBC Sports on Peacock. The Rich Eisen Show radio network is expanding day after day.
So, we've got new audience members.
So, for those out there who might never have heard of Mike Del Tufo weather report in previous NFL seasons, the precipitation isn't just the rain or the snow, it's the flop sweat. No, and it's also great. It's really fantastic. Flop sweat doesn't happen anymore. It doesn't happen anymore.
Mike, give us an hour. I don't know. 20 minutes. I don't know. I would say 70% chance.
70% chance of flop sweat. Nope. Can't get in that anymore. Mike, we could definitely get in your head. No, you can't.
Mike. I'm like Tiger Woods on a golf course. Mike. Come on. Can't get me.
Come on. Mike. Come on. I just want to go farther. The wintry mix is throwing flop sweat in the air conditioning.
Wintry mix. Easy of the studio. Precipitation, miles per hour, mile per hour. Speaking of. Yankees by way of Colorado.
Oh. I say to my Met friend who is feeling his oats and why not, you've got Bobby Axelrod buying the groceries for your team now because he's the owner, Stevie Cohen. Thinking everybody's available. Everybody's coming your way. And you might be right.
But hands off of the machine. And I don't mean Burt Kreischer, I'm talking about DJ LeMayhew. DJ LeMayou, everybody, is not going anywhere. Congrats. Not going to go anywhere.
Last week didn't look good when he's like, Yankees aren't. I'm on the pay no mind list. What's going on? Yeah, I'm on a pain on mindless. I want to wet my beak a little.
Oh, yes.
Well, more than a little. Yeah, I mean, again, I talked about this before the show, and I was, my memory did serve. It was two years ago yesterday. Yep. Two years ago yesterday.
Two years ago yesterday, where it's just in the middle of the old hot stove. Hey, you know what? The Yankees sign DJ LeMayhew's hit pretty well. And I'm thinking to myself, where's he going to play? Where's he gonna play?
Right? Because Didi Gregorius was still around, right? And and Glabrator's, you gotta find a spot for him. And Miguel Anduhar was Mr. Doubles.
He was Mr. Extra base hit. You know. Didn't know he was going to get hurt. First base was supposed to be Greg Bird's spot, you know?
I mean. And where's DJ LeMayu going to play? I guess he's just going to be a little glue guy. Maybe he could be our brocious, and he turned out to be our. MVP?
Dude, that guy rakes. Two years, twenty-four million bucks is Not what he's making anymore. We're still waiting on a figure, right? Six years? Six years, 90 is what I said.
Here we go. Six years, 90. Six years 90. For a 32-year-old, hmm?
Okay. Oh yeah.
Okay. This guy over here. That's exactly it. This guy. That guy.
This guy over here. All fall and winter long. Got to get this guy. Would it be great if we get this guy? I want LeMay.
I want LeMayu. I want LeMayheu. And you know what the price is going to be. And you know the price is going to be high. You know it's going to be a huge number.
And The Yankees re-sign him and the guy that you wanted all falling. Shh, he's thirty-two. I mean, six years, it's quite a commitment. Poof. The guy who's the mad mad, honestly, of all the hypocritical maneuvers by this Red Sox fan over the six-plus years of our show, we're now in our seventh year of the Rich Island Show.
Of all those years that I could use right now. Of all the most hypocritical things you've ever done as a Red Sock fan that I could use right now, nothing beats. The moment. where Chris Brockman walked in and said he was done with David Price forever. Because he was getting bombed by the Yankees in the postseason.
He was done. With them forever. Richard. The moment it suggested was one time, he said it. Oh my gosh, it wasn't.
He was done with them forever. I don't want to see him anymore. He stinks. It's the worst. His salaries, he's overpaid.
He stinks. He should retire. He's terrible. He should retire. Worst thing ever.
Get him out. Get him out!
Okay, and then Aaron Judge plays New York, New York on his boombox or whatever, going to the bus, leaving Fenway. Leaving Fenway. Red Sox survive. David Price. Buckles down to say the least.
He was amazing the rest of that postseason. And a World Series championship later. You got it. Hey. David Price is fantastic.
I want him to quit. I want him to retire on the spot. Yeah, he's not going to do that. That's what I want. He's not going to do it.
He was terrible. He was saving it for the World Series. And then he was amazing. And I've stuck to my word. Never saying a bad thing about TJ.
TJ's 32. Good luck with him, the guy that I wanted. Oof. I'm gonna keep him in fantasy, by the way. He's amazing.
Francisco Lindor. Let's go to the phone lines right here. Pete in Richmond, Virginia. You're on the Rich Islands Show. What's up, Peter?
Pete. Mr. Eisen, always a pleasure. Happy New Year, gentlemen. Tell us about it.
Hey, bro, Pete. Happy New Year, bro. Pete, what's happening? You know, I love you. Whatever, Brockman.
Keep wishing Brady was on your team still. That's all. Hey, no, very seriously, very seriously. I hate to bring it back up. It was a lovely rant earlier, sir.
But how do you think the Jets are going to screw up the draft for you this year? I will hang up and listen. All right, sir. And y'all have a great weekend. Thanks, Peter.
Thanks, Peter. People, brother. I don't know, man. That's the first choice. Like I told you, I reached out to some people who are talent evaluators of note and people whose names I'm not going to say here.
I'm like, what does this mean? Sala means what? That Sam stays? And I got a text back saying, He should work well on the Shanahan system. And I said as a 49er or a jet?
They're bringing Mike LaFleur. It seems. It's not official. That's the word Salah's going to bring the current 49ers passing game coordinator, Mike LaFleur. Yes, he is the younger brother of Matt.
Gonna bring him? And thus the whole concept of the passing game coordinator has been sitting beside game planning along with Kyle Shannon. That's the guy to bring into New York. Question is, what do you do? Is Sam the guy?
Is Sam the guy? Pick up his fifth-year option, yay or nay. Do you do that? Yeah, your name. Is he the guy?
These are all questions down the road. Between now and one would think you'd have to make this decision. You'd have to figure it out. I guess you I You don't even, you could even fifth year option them, and that's a, that makes them a tradable commodity to somebody that you get them for two years. There is no question of his character, his high character.
Because again, Mike Mayock taught that to me. A long time ago, and I was sitting next to him for all those years at the Combine. When you say someone's a character guy, that's bad. You don't want to be that guy. Because when you say that the guy has character issues, that's a problem.
High character guy, that's what you want to be. He's a high character guy. You don't want to be a character guy. You want to be a high character guy. He's a high character guy.
And he's great with the media. You know, I mean, everything just rolls off his back. He heard all year long. all over the place, including here, that Trevor Lawrence is a better fit. And he's He's d he just keeps going on.
Make that decision. I don't know. I don't know, but all I know is that if you do keep him. I think you trade too. Trade him to trade two to somebody who wants that position for a quarterback.
And then you you just move back. And you keep stockpiling picks, and then you get all, and then you just got to get Joe Douglas to hit on him. That's what you need. And Josh Charles loves Joe Douglas because he knows him from the Ravens before he went to the Eagles. Just think about what the Bears gave up a few years ago to move up one spot to get Mitch.
So the Jets can obviously cash in, moving down two, three, four, five, depending on who wants to move up.
Okay, you guys ready for my four downs? I usually do it on a Tuesday, but things have basement so crazy. This is a Division Weekend Edition of Four Downs. Hut! Hut!
Four downs with Ridge. Here we go! Why did he set the door?
Okay, first down here, divisional playoff weekend. You see it a lot in college. Where a kid doesn't Show up. On offense. for much of the year, but he's been doing a lot in practice.
and he's been learning the system. And he's been doing stuff on special teams, but you don't really notice that. And all of a sudden, towards the end of the year, that kid. is really good. And you could see he's a keeper.
And he's also a game changer, and somebody can actually do well in a bowl game because of it. You see it in college, you don't see it too much in the pros. Not really, except with the New Orleans Saints. Deontay Harris. Is a guy who has been on special teams.
He had going into the wild card win against the Bears 25 targets. on offense all year. 25 targets on offense all year. And then comes the divisional playoff games when they targeted him seven times, and he caught all of them for 83 yards. And you know whose attention he caught.
Deontay Harris caught Bruce Arian's attention. Asked about getting Mike Thomas back and how that affects the Buccaneers' defensive plan. He said this about the saints. And Thomas, he's a heck of a player. But the guy that scares me is Deontay Harris, said Bruce Arions.
He's really, really fast, and when he was in there, it's a different ballgame. Mike is a bruiser and a chain mover. But Deontay Harris can go to the house quick. You know Emmanuel Sanders, you know Mike Thomas. Jared Cook has been playing very well of lately.
You know Kamara, you know Latavius. And you know the old Swiss Army knife at Taysom Hill. If you've got a quick game changer in Deontay Harris added to that mix, look. out and look for Harris. Number 11 in your program and potentially number one in the New Orleans heart.
for divisional playoff weekend. Keep an eye out for that here second down.
Now, it's somewhat of a rarity. This is the 33rd. all-time playoff matchup. Between two teams that have played each other already. And one team has swept him.
Oh. Playing for a third time. Only 32 times before have we seen. A matchup. in the playoffs between two teams.
where one has swept the other in the season series going into the playoffs. History shows. That the New Orleans Saints are going to win the sweepstakes this weekend. Previous record of sweepers. In the previous 32 games coming in, In the third game...
The previous record of the sweepers is 20 and 12 in game number three. Then when you say, well, let's filter it down even closer. What Is the record of the team that's at home? that has already swept the season series. 17 and 7.
Shh kikes. History has its eyes on the New Orleans Saints.
Now, if you want to be fair and balanced, Filter it down to the division weekend. It's only 10 times. This is only the 11th time out of the 33.
So a third of the previous games that we have seen. of such an instance. Only a third of them have been played in divisional playoff weekend. And the sweepers are just six and four in those games. Good stats.
Food for thought. Good stats. Food for thought. Third down. You could make this case Ye could make the case.
And I'm going to make it, even though I don't have the full scope of what we've seen before. And, you know, the Pro Football Hall of Fame is chock full of great quarterbacks that have played in the same. playoff weekend with each other, but You can make the case this is the greatest Divisional playoff quarterback round ever. You could make this case. There are four Super Bowl MVPs playing this weekend: Brady, Brees, Mahomes, and Rogers.
There are four regular season. MVPs playing this weekend. You just remove Breeze from that mix because unbelievably he's never won that award. Put in Lamar. There are five Super Bowl quarterbacks on this list.
You put in Brady Mahomes, Brees, and Rogers, and Ed Jared Goff. There are two first overall selected quarterbacks on this list in Goff. and Mayfield. There are three first-round quarterbacks from just three years ago. on this list and Alan Lamar And Mayfield.
I'm looking at this screen right here, and I know that you got.
somebody who's still in many odd ways considered Unproven in the same way that you would look at three quarterbacks that were drafted just three years ago when Allen, Lamar, and Mayfield. But put it all together. And then you've got a matchup that will never be topped in Brady versus Breeze. Never. We'll never see it again.
in terms of the combined quarterback statistics on one field and one do-or-die playoff game. Fourth down. That was a great down. Fourth down. My hot take.
My hot take. My hot take plank is right here. Thanks to my buddy Tom Persons. There it is. A divisional secret spills.
Uh he made this uh hot take. Here's my divisional weekend hot take. And it is a hot take because This is kind of like a bold prediction out of Game Day Morning. It's a style of that style. is that Um As you know, this year With COVID, There's no fans in the stands, or at least not as what we're used to.
So you're seeing results throughout the year that you don't normally see. Because the road team doesn't have to deal with the 12th man, for instance, last week, Rams in Seattle. And then put that together with this new playoff format. We still don't know what we don't know on it. And what we already saw on the playoff format.
was not one but two six teams six seeds winning. on the vi uh on wild card weekend. And the five seeds also won.
So you saw row teams win, and you're seeing seeds that normally would be playing against division winners. You know, now they had an opportunity even to potentially host a divisional playoff game. The reason what I'm saying is this. Only twice since 2010, 2010 and 2016, have we seen multiple road teams win a divisional playoff weekend? I say.
This weekend, we're going to see it again. Oh, ooh, ooh. Two road teams will win this weekend. I'm not going to sit here and tell you. We want to know.
We want to know. I don't know. I don't know what I don't know under this new playoff format. But what I'm saying is, two road teams are going to win a divisional playoff weekend. Last time it happened was in 2016 when, if speaking of Jared Cook, He dotted the sideline with an Aaron Rodgers beautiful throw against TJ Jefferson's Dallas Cowboys.
And Pittsburgh won in Kansas City. You remember that game where they had to delay it because of a night game? That. That birthed. Uh the start times you see this weekend.
because they had to move that to a night game. Like, it's not bad playing a divisional playoff game under the lights. And then in 2010, Green Bay beat Atlanta. And uh my jets Couldn't wait against New England in divisional playoff weekend. That's the last two times.
Two road teams wanted a visual playoff weekend. Bucks and who? If I had a guess, it would be Lamar and the Ravens, if you want to hold me to it. That's where I would go. I don't know.
Who knows, man? I have no idea either. No idea. No, no, no, no. But I'm just saying those are my four downs for divisional playoff weekend.

Restrictions apply. I don't know if you're aware, but you going to Yale was brought up on game two of the NBA Finals. No way. Yes, because was it the part where the Cavs were really losing at the end? No, it's not that.
It's not that. No. It's that Jeff Van Gundy, who is on the broadcast, said he went to school with you. No way. Yeah.
Sorry, Jeff, don't remember you. You weren't that memorable. Yeah.
You don't remember Jeff Van Gundy? I'm afraid I don't. I'm afraid I don't. Because the reverse is true. Oh, that's great.
Yeah.
Yeah, I don't. Your phone wasn't lighting up from friends saying. No, I wish I had seen it. I wish I'd seen him. I would have been able to see his face and maybe, you know.
But I don't know.
Well, I mean, I think we could. Can we bring up a picture of Jeff Van Gundy? I don't know, so just stroll down memory lane here. The one in the middle is Jeff Van Gundy. Does that ring a bell?
That rings no bell whatsoever. I'm so sorry, Jeff. No class reunions at all with Jodi Foster and Jeff Van Gundy.
Okay. We noticed you mentioned on the air that you were classmates with Jodi Foster at Yale. Yeah, and then you cheat-shotted me afterwards. No, I don't know. I don't like cheap shit.
I brought her on and just feigned total indifference to my existence in the world. It was a setup. I'd be like, Our freshman year, there were 12 guys on the floor. We all threw in $100 and said, hey, The first guy that gets a date with Jodi Foster, you win the money. I'm coming back from the gym in the early fall, and there's a candy shop right outside the big quad for freshmen.
The popcorn is popping, it smells great, and from behind me, someone goes, Man, that popcorn smells good. And I turn around. And it's her. And I totally choke and I say, yeah, yeah, and I run to my dorm.
Okay. I was scared, I was intimidated by it. I did not throw him under the bus. I didn't think so either. She didn't remember.
Yeah, she just didn't remember him. Jodi Foster has other things going on. Do we have the? And she signed the bat, right? Yeah, we have it.
It's right there. Chris, go grab it just real quick.
So we had Mark Carmen on the show, and he, when we brought up the great sports movie Stealing Home, Um we We had uh he we talked about it with him and he then sent This bat, this Billy Wyatt bat, from Stealing Home. His character, his name was Billy Wyatt. See, and he autographed it, and then when we Jody Fost were here. Because you know, she's the love interest in that film. That's got to be a one-of-one.
We had her sign it, too. A Mark Harmon, Jodi Foster. Autographed Billy Wyapat. There's no other. Yeah, that's one of the bat like this on the planet.
No other bat like this. And of quote, God bless Mark Harmon. He's like, yeah, take it. He doesn't care. You know, right?
Back here on the Rich Eisen Show, here 844-204-Rich. Number to dial here on a busy Friday before divisional playoff weekend. And I love this guy. Celebrated my 50th birthday with him in New York. Susie surprised me with Josh Charles showing up and.
Just so much fun. I love this guy, Voice of America's game. He loves football. I don't know anybody who loves football more than him and certainly loves the Baltimore Ravens more than him with a big game coming up. My buddy Josh Charles back on the show.
How are you, Josh? How you doing, Rich?
So I've been going back and forth telling the guys here, do I call you? Confident but nervous, or nervous yet confident. How do I describe you? Today, Josh Johnson. Yeah, it's a it's a tricky one because I really I really don't know.
I mean, I I feel I feel relatively confident, but I I I honestly I could see it going either way. You know, I mean, I think it's gonna come down to who makes who makes Couple of those plays that turn the difference in the game. We'll see. I mean, I think a big. Big question mark.
Obviously, there's been some talk about the weather. It doesn't seem like the weather is going to be too, too bad. Even if it is a little wet or it snows, it's not going to accumulate. That's what I've heard.
So I think if the Ravens can run the ball and that is One could say, in a very balanced team like the Bills, and a very good team who I respect a lot, I really like the Bills.
So it's hard, you know, because when you when you get in these playoff games you like to sort of You know, like the Titans I got to hate on a little bit 'cause they they There was some of the bad blood in Butler. And this is like, I don't hate anybody from the Bills. I like the Bills, I like their fan base. I'm happy for them. They're a good team.
Josh Allen's great, what he's done this year. It's great to see Diggs, Maryland guy, you know, stepping up. But I really think if if we can run the ball consistently, which is our bread and butter, keep them off the field, and then it's going to come down to a question of what Wink has in store in terms of pressures and fake pressures and what what we're going to look at. I it's going to be a fun game to watch. I really I do feel confident.
I don't feel as confident as I felt in the Titans game just because I think the Bills are a more balanced team. But I I like the Ravens. I like the Ravens in it. I like it.
So, you know, I I The offense for the Ravens, when it cooks. is when you have no earthly idea. That who's got the ball coming out of the backfield. You don't know if Lamar is a passer. or a runner.
You don't know if the runner is a runner. a blocker or a receiver. And you also don't know if the fullback is the receiver. You don't know if the running back is the blocker and the fullback fullback is the receiver. It is just truly amazing, but it does predicate On being able to run that offense and not have to come back from so many points down.
And that's my concern. Again, unless was that Rectified? Is it Hollywood Brown? Is it Des? I don't know.
You know what I mean? Like, has that problem been rectified? We don't really know. And you're right. I mean, that is.
I mean, look. to see Lamar And I know you feel the same way because I know you've been a big supporter of his, but the criticism, and some of it, is fair. I mean, he's a young quarterback. still learning and making adjustments. But the idea that he was such a victim of his own success, you know, can't win the big game.
I mean, he's won some big games in the regular season, by the way, but 0-2 in the playoffs up until last week.
So to get that monkey off his back and at the same time come back from ten points and really just sort of put the team on his shoulders. But I think, you know, look, none of those other quarterbacks that were drafted ahead of him in that year have been to the playoffs. You know, this is the first year. to criticize him for something where he's actually made the playoffs two years. And as a Ravens fan, certainly I'm frustrated by both of those losses, particularly last year where I really did think we we we had the chance to to do it all the way.
But I think you're right. I mean, I think that's the question. I mean, and also on the defensive side of the ball, I think as a Ravens fan, I think we were all kind of waiting For that type of defensive performance, you know, and to see them gel at that right time. It's the first time Calais. Big Baby, Brandon Williams and Derek Wolf.
you know, had really been on the field together for you know in a while because Due to certain injuries mixed with the COVID epidemic, an outbreak on the team.
So, to see those guys and really have such a dominant performance, are they capable of doing that against the Bills? That's a more balanced attack. Yes, they don't have the rushing game that the Titans do, but they're more balanced, and Josh can beat you with his feet a little bit as well. I don't know. I mean, that's what I'm excited to see.
I mean, but the question is: if they turn in an 80% effort of that one against the Titans, is that going to be enough, you know, depending on how we do on offense?
So, I think the amazing thing that you said. know about that, you just don't know. What? What always impresses me is when I watch I mean, I'm obsessed with Baldinger, right? I mean, I just, his tight downs to me are just like the greatest thing on the planet.
I mean, they're the greatest. I look, they're like Christmas for me. You know, every week, I just, I look at him, I want to watch him. I feel like he makes a dummy like me understand the game better. And when he breaks down, you know, he breaks down those point of attacks and he freezes the play for a second.
And you can see, like, in that Tennessee game, exactly what you're talking about. And it's not the first time, you know, clearly it happens all the time where the linebackers are frozen. Just that split second. And with the speed that we have between Dobbins and Gus and Lamar. You see what the challenge is facing this team.
I thought the Titans did a pretty good job for a while. But what I was impressed with was Roman, you know, just staying. stuck to the plan and you know that paid off. And we'll see we'll see what what what they have in store. I'm sure there'll be some wrinkles and he'll he'll throw some things out there.
It was nice to see Hollywood you know move from uh uh you know, Beverly Hills adjacent into his nickname a little bit more appropriate. Because there's been some times where his mouth has been a little bit bigger than the game, but I do feel like he really stepped up in a big way, and we need him. We need him. And he played fantastic and made some great catches. Lamar made that great over-the-shoulder throw.
So, you know, as far as I'm concerned, if he has another game like that, he's Beverly Hills Brown. Yeah, I was about to say that I guess Hollywood Brown is much better than Thousand Oaks Brown or Tarzana Brown or Rancho Kucamonga Brown. I'm just trying to go through the names I hear on Traffic and Weather Together. But I'm going to give him Homeby Hills Brown pretty soon. That is a high-rent district.
Josh Charles, my buddy and Die Hard Ravens and Die Hard Football fan here on the show. And we can sit here and go X's and O's as much as possible. And we're showing a photograph of you from last year's NFL Honors with Lamar the night that he was crowned the MVP. And the X's and O's, we can sit here about wrinkle this, wrinkle that, but he's. He's like a human wrinkle.
Like, he is the game changed on a third down in a game where points were a premium, and then boom. Touchdown from midfield. Like, what in the world is that like to be a fan of a quarterback like that? I mean, I'd love to know. Just walk me through what that's like, what that sensation is like.
Joe says the Jets fan. Correct. Correct, Josh. You know me.
So, what is that? What is that like? What is that like, Josh?
Well, I'll tell you what it's like. I mean, after years of Stony Case and Scott Mitchell and Elvis Goback, and you know, I mean, you name all the guys. I mean, listen, I was a huge, I'm and still am a huge Joe fan. I mean, he put in, you know. Arguably, that postseason one of the greatest runs of all time.
And the guy's just a class act and has such a pretty deep all. But offensively to see what we're doing. I think the Ravens, like we got we've gotten a little spoiled. We were so hungry to have that kind of creativity, to have that player on the field. And it's what my dad was saying the other night, we were talking, he's like, he's just He's a game changer.
I mean, you just all it takes is, like you said, that one, third, and nine or the forty-eight. And next thing you know, the game's tied and the momentum just shifted. And I don't think we ever let up on it after that.
So I think this is going to be a harder challenge. I mean, I think the Bills, you know, rightfully so, have earned their seed. And like I said, I will be disappointed if we don't pull it off. But I'm also a fan of that team.
So it's really hard. But I do think. The Ravens are in a good mojo right now, and obviously, turnovers will be huge. You know what I mean? I mean, we didn't.
We had that one early in the game, but that was it. And I don't think we can do that in this game. Everybody's got to protect the ball, and we do have to run it consistently and stay at it. And if we get behind, that will be tough and we'll be challenged.
So we'll see. I mean, I'm excited about it. I can't wait. I just wish it wasn't so late so my son could watch it because he's pissed off at me. No, exactly.
How old is Ronco now, Josh? How old is he now? He just turned six in December.
Okay. And he's just getting into the Ravens. But the thing about Tom. Talking football with a six-year-old, and maybe there's different six-year-olds that know he's pretty knowledgeable. Like, he will go through and he'll name all the teams.
But my favorite thing talking to him about it is he's always like, he's like, who's playing? And when I tell him who's playing, like, he knows who's good and he knows who's bad.
So he's always like, oh, they're going to crush him. They're going to crush him.
So I try to explain to him: hey, Jim. Just because a team's favored or just because they're the better team, it doesn't always mean they're going to win, right? And that's why they got to play the game.
Sometimes the team that's not as good wins. Um on paper. And uh and so I don't know that he fully gets that yet, but he's always like, Oh, they're gonna crush him, they're gonna crush him.
So we'll see. He's excited, and I think all Ravens fans are excited. And I also think. This suits this team better in a weird way. Like last year, I mean, we weren't used to that.
We're used to sort of. You know, being on the outside, looking in, you know, being the wild card, being on the road, I think it just suits the mentality of that team better. Sitting, having a cushy bye week, you know, thinking we're just going to keep rolling. This is. This keeps them hungry, and I I'm expecting it to be a fantastic, fantastic football game.
Well, I guess in the fact that it's unfortunate that the game starts too late for Rocco now, it was a benefit to you, I imagine, on that Monday night or that you'd have to tell your six-year-old why why daddy and the rest of the country didn't really believe Lamar was out with an IV, right? Josh, on that Monday night? That'd be tough to explain. I had the same feelings, but like I told you, you know, I've talked to people that know, you know, and they tell me without question that you're telling the truth, that he was cramping up, you know. That's another way to put it, I guess.
What do you guys think?
Well, do you not think we think he's number eight in the program, but number two in the fourth quarter, is really what we think. You know? But I it's Well, honestly, I mean, and again, so there's two things. One, as you know, he came on this show and talked about how the defense is calling plays out offensively.
So he does not have a lion bone in his body. That's number one.
So we know that. He just speaks the truth, is what he does. But number two, the one thing that we saw was when he was trying to enter the locker room, waving the poor Schnook, who was exiting at the same time he was trying to enter. We've all seen that quick motion of the hand to move. Because a movement was happening.
We've all been there, is what I'm saying. I guess here's my issue with that, right? And I love that we're breaking this down. But I do think I love that we're washing it down. If it was that, let's just say it was.
Why why would it have taken so long? I mean, you know, you got trainers there, you got people, they'll they'll give you the whatever the you know, emodium, whatever it is. Take it and do your thing and do your business and get back. He was gone for like almost a quarter, wasn't it? Like 15 minutes?
That's a long explosion.
So I'm telling you that I think. And again, ask people point blank that I know that said 100% the truth. Dude was cramping up bad. That's what it was. We need a baldy breakdown on it, Josh.
We need a baldy breakdown on it. It's basically what we need. We need a baldy breakdown. Just freeze it, freeze it as he's going in.
Now, look at here at the point of attack. You see how he's shaking his hand a little bit and he's waddling a little bit. That little poor kid, the water boy, he doesn't know what hit him. He doesn't know which way Lamar's going. Is he going down left?
Is he going down right? Um I'm knocking stuff over. I'm laughing so hard. Josh Charles here on the Rich Rising Show. Hey, before I let you go, I've never asked you about, because you know, we talk pop culture here too.
Before I let you go, I've never really asked you about Dead Poets Society, which. Celebrated a 31-year anniversary last year, and I've really never asked you about your experience on the set. We're seeing you right there as Knox Overstreet. How old were you? Were you 17 shooting this movie with Ronald?
I was 17, yeah. Yeah, I mean, you know, it's an amazing story. The movie was supposed to get made a year earlier. Right. With a different director.
not Robin being in it. Um, and and it was set to go in like Georgia or something. And and me and and Ethan, I think were we were two people who were cast. And I was set to leave and fly down and got my big break and I was really excited. And in the movie that they they they pulled it.
They couldn't find a star to be in the movie that the studio would support at the time, and the director wanted some people who at the time were more unknown, like Alec Baldwin and Liam Neeson, you know, but like the studio wanted a big name and the director, you know, so it it fell apart. And then it came back a year later. And when it came back a year later, I think Peter Weir was directing it, and he had seen the screen test. I don't think he thought I was right or whatever. And so I had to go and re-audition for the movie.
And so I had to go meet him in New York and read for him again and kind of convince him. And I got the part again. It was a really great feeling.
So then. It really just felt like it was meant to be. And then making it was really special memories to get to work with someone like Robin Williams at the time. And I remember being really struck. Um by him because You know, we were all starstruck by him.
But he was very he was doing a play at the time. He was doing something with Steven Martin. And so he came a little late, so I shot a lot of my stuff because it didn't involve him earlier. And when he came, he really kind of respected his place in the movie, that he knew he was the big star, but that we were all sort of sharing it in this ensemble movie. And he really was.
was very treated us like like real equals and he was always funny of course. But also like Really um You could tell just like he had this beautiful sensitivity to him, you know, and and took acting seriously, obviously, and was such a major talent. She um You know, I remember I remember, like, I know he was very and I knew a little bit that he Was very close with like Data Crosby, you know, and uh, I knew the musician, the musician, the famous musician, and that I, you know, Robin, obviously, that was, I think, public reports had battled his own sort of, you know, demons in terms of abuse and stuff like that, and and um. you know, with his own sort of you know, excess issues and uh and I remember I was really into music and I was playing the American Dream record. And I had it on, you know, it's like Walkman.
This is this is stating ourselves here. He was like, What do you listen to? We're in the trailer. I said, I'm listening to, you know, American Dream. And there's this beautiful song by David Carsby.
Now, I didn't know he was friends at the time with David Crosby. You know what I mean? Like, the song is beautiful. And I remember putting it on for him, and he just listened. And, you know, and then I found out later that he knew him.
And then I put it all together: oh my God, like, he's had his own sort of struggles with addiction at times in his life. And I just remember he was very moved by it, and he just was, I don't know, he was just a great, great guy. Such a talent, I think, a real. lesson to us all. That, um, you know, the the the We project so much on to sort of our movie stars and the people we like and everybody, you know, it doesn't matter who you are, you're not immune to it.
I mean, look what just happened with Congressman Raskin and his You know, beautiful sun, you know, that, that. Yeah.
There's just demons out there and people are fighting them and it doesn't matter how much money or how much success you have and sometimes that's what drives you. But the memories from him were very you know, from that time were very pure and um Filled with a lot of joy, and that he was such a genuinely warm human being who was. Very funny, you know. He used to like that I'd you know, I used to do Richard Pryor for him and he liked that because I was a big Richard Pryor fan growing up.
So I would I would have the balls to somehow, you know, do an impersonation in front of Robin Williams. Robin Williams, huh? That's unbelievable. And I I guess just as what you're saying too, Josh, that The message of the film, Uh carpe diem. Right?
Seize the day and get on your desk and yawp. You know, like that's.
Okay. Unbelievably, what we're talking about, about what we're talking about. When you start out young like that, it's like you get that break and then. The problem is, is you think, you know, now I'm 49 years old right now. I've been in this business.
That was my second movie. I've been acting professionally since I'm 15. And that was my first major role. And you're working with Peter Weir and Robin Williams and all these other amazingly talented young actors. You know, and Ethan's someone who, you know, him and I are still.
remain friends, and Dylan Cussman is another one who I consider a friend. And Jamie Waterston, all these great people, and Robert Sean Leonard, and all these talented Gail Hanson and Al Ruggiero, and just great guys. And we bonded in the Radisson and Wilmington, Delaware, and going to the mall and playing video games and working with Peter Weir, who is this exceptional, extraordinary talent.
So you tend to think. As a kid, like, oh my god, they're all going to be like this. This is what the movie industry is like. And it's not. It was a special movie, I think, made even more special by Robin and his infectious spirit and his talent and what he brought to it, and that he brought so many people into that movie.
And also by Peter, who was really the sort of, you know, the key of the film, you know, inspiring us all. Playing music for us. You know, when you, I would tell people, if you watch that movie, you know, it's, it's. Peter used to play music a lot. It was really, and it's something that I've stayed with as an actor my whole career since.
In order to sort of get into a moment of the scene or the tone or the feeling of what you want. I remember when we shot the final. scene where we all stand up on our desks. He would play all these music, this music, and he had like a shitty boom box. You know what I mean?
It was like terrible. And my dad, because I grew up in Baltimore, which wasn't very far, my dad is a commercial director and had a really cool new Bose boombox that was like giant and sounded great. And he brought it to the set for Peter. And so when we filmed that scene, he was playing Maurice Chars Jar's music from the mission, you know, that beautiful soundtrack from the mission. And so No, no, I'm sorry.
He was playing I think it's Mora Cohn did the music for the mission. My apologies. And you'll Mora Cohn's soundtrack for the mission, but he was playing that while we were all performing that. And if you listen to that soundtrack, It might be fun for people who are fans of the movie to watch it and think. And then Maurice Giar, who ended up doing the music for Dead Poets Society, created his own version of that.
But that's a memory that I'll always stay with, just that boom box that my dad brought and just blaring through, and we're all standing up and just. feeling it and um He was an incredible person to work with as a young actor. And I remember. He also did something in the original script of the film. And Tom Shillman won an Oscar for the movie, by the way.
It was the one Oscar that I think the movie won. It was nominated for a couple, but he won. But in the original screenplay, Um you find out at the end of the movie that that Robin's character had had uh was dying. I think it was cancer. I don't remember.
But like, if you think about the film now, it's like all the stuff with Neil and the climax of that. And then at the end, it's all coming down on Keaton, and you find out that he is dying, and that's why he's.
So carpe diem and seize the day and don't you get it, don't you see? And when Peter Weir came on to the film, it was one of the first things he said, This is going away. Right. And and Tom Schulman will tell you this. He was, you know, like he was Stunned and upset, and like couldn't believe what he was hearing.
And now I think he thanks his lucky stars because it was a great, just a great sign of a director reading the tone of the film. And somehow if you sort of You know explain it away, like, you know, the reason he is this way is because he's dying as opposed to this is just his spirit and this is what he's bringing to you, uh, was much more, I think, profound and less sentimental, you know, and and and just better. Um, and and uh It's one of those things where you read, you never think of it any other way, and then when it's gone, you're like, How was that ever in there? You know, this makes so much more sense, it makes so much more. um much more nuanced and interesting.
So Great experience filming in St. Andrews School in Delaware. And like I said, it was pretty close to my home.
So I could go home on weekends and hang. Although I was so jacked up and excited, I was usually staying in the Radisson when I was 27 as opposed to 17. I love it. I love it, Josh. Josh, it's just, I love these stories, and I'm so appreciative of you coming on and sharing that, your passion for your craft and your movies and your Ravens.
Thanks for the call, Josh. Love you, man. Enjoy the game. Always good to talk to you about. I love you, too.

So, why are you not carrying forward the whole Western thing? I don't know how I collect on that reward back there. If you do collect that reward money, I hope it's the alive part. Why are you dressed like Alex P. Keith.
Well, I'm trying to get you on a horse before you. I know you are. I don't know. Yeah, right. Oh, Richie's on the floor.
There we go. Yeehaw. Is this going the Emmy Reel? AJ Green using the new Gluff technology. Carmen Mitch.
All right, he's got that. Brockman trying to dot the eye and look out. Yeah, yeah. A.J. Green going along with number one fingers.
Oh, yes! Everybody's trying to get a Seahawk this week to have a one-on-one interview, and I've got the exclusive, Are You Here Because You Just Don't Want to Get Fined? Here is the connection between me and JB Smooth. It involves the cult classic Pooty Tang. It goes without saying, without...
Me? Putty Tang is nothing. I'm back y'all hearing trash talking to you. I mean, I wasn't trash talking. Up to you, man.
Talking you up. I'm gonna sign your pity on a runny kind. And if you want to try to stop me, I got to say the name. Sam Newton is here. Who do you think is going to win?
Respectfully. I could care less. Yeah! Could see his new cow depart. I'm doing real good today.
I got my... Cowboy hat on or feeling good. It's kind of similar. I give you like, who's gonna win the best TV show award? Also, the Rich Hodgson show is the best one, okay?
Of course. Create Buffalo Gals going around the outside. We're working. Oh, no. Oh man, good memories.
Good memories back in the day. And Mr. Frost and Fawn. Our show was three months old. That's it.
I had no idea who Malcolm Butler was on that day. Not yet, it's right. Never even heard of them. Not yet. I think Al tells me.
How much time do we're back to our radio side? I think about 47. 43. Al Michaels, next time he's on, we've got to ask him. I think he told me that there was a play that involved Malcolm Butler.
the play before or two plays before, and so he looked down at his play sheet and he saw Balcombe's name and his number.
So he was ready. When Malcolm flashed. That was not. Because other than that, I mean, he was. They didn't play.
It wasn't the sixth defensive back. Right. That was a crazy thing. And they threw him in. But he plowed his sixth defensive back practiced the play enough that they were ready to see it and ready to hit it.
Unreal. That was crazy. And the rest is history. Literally. Unreal.
To see that. It was nuts. What a week. What a weekend that was. Unbelievable.
Unbelievable. Seahawks fans went like that. Back here on the Rich Eisen Show, 844-204-Rich is the number to dial. Kurt Warner is going to be joining us. He's on the road right now, making his way to Los Angeles.
So light a candle for his cell reception. Uh-oh. I decided to say, you know what, let's just do it. Let's just do it. Brady and Breeze are playing one another.
How do we not have a Hall of Fame quarterback? Um. On ear. How do we know? Kurt Warner's Hall of Fame career began as Greg Williams bountied him into retirement in that building.
So true. I say things Kurt can't. That's true, you do. That's true. Are you ready to make people hard-earned American dollars, Chris?
I am. I'm going to do my best. The divisional playoff weekend edition of Sneaky. good games. Here's Chris Brockman with Sneaky Good Games, contests likely to surprise you with their heretofore undisclosed competitive value.
Again, Tom Brokall, the fact that he lends his gravitas to your introduction of a gambling segment, Chris, is really impressive. Many thanks to Tommy. What do you got over there, Chris? All right, I'm going to give you all four games, how I'm going to play each of these games this weekend. I am putting my own money on the line as well, so let's go get it, people.
Green Bay, I'm going to take the Packers minus six and a half. I just think they're too good, too good offensively. I know the Rams' defense is phenomenal, but I don't know if they're going to be able to score enough points, even if it's a low-scoring game. I think Green Bay wins this one by a touchdown. Bills Ravens.
I like Mike. I like the weather as a running. I like the Ravens running the football. I also like that the unders in playoff games under John Harbaugh, 12-6. Wow.
Last week's game against the Titans was under by 20 points. Like the under in Buffalo. Give me the points with the Browns. Here's a Chief stat for you. They've won seven games since week nine.
None of their victories were by double digits. Average win margin was four points, one and seven against the spread for Kansas City.
So I'm gonna take the browns with the points. And give me the Bucs on the road. I think they win the game outright. Look at you. But I'm going to take the Bucs plus three.
Look at you. Okay, so you so you'd like um Green Bay, just for those who don't do this. Yes.
So you like Green Bay. Who do you like winning the game between the Bills? I know, from what I've gathered, from what I've gathered with you. Um and Seeing other people's habits that are in my orbit, certainly on a Thursday night around a poker table. Um it seems to me that those who are Placing hard-earned American dollars on the results of a National Football League game when they bet over-under their.
They just shrug us. They don't want to touch who wins and who loses. To have a little bit of taste, a little bit of action, a little beak wet, you bet the total. Is that how you're going to touch the Ravens and Titans? Because the other ones are like.
But I feel like Buffalo is better. I feel like they might win, but I think it's going to be. I mean, they could win 28, 27 or something, you know? I think the Chiefs win, but I think it's a close game. Yep.
And I like the Bucks that went out right. I would I would bet the Bucks money line. What does that mean? That means you're just betting on them to win, but because they're the underdog, you get a little bit more than even money. You might get like $1.25 to your dollar bet.
Is that how much you're betting on it? A dollar? No. Like you're not the Dukes? I'm not.
One dollar. I think the Bills are winning. Here's $1.
Okay. That's sneaky good games right there. We've got the following in the next hour: Kurt Warner, Pro Football Hall of Famer, Mike Del Tufo's Weather Report, Chris Brockman's news update, and higher register. That's how we roll Friday. Certainly going into the divisional playoff weekend, a big weekend, a big final hour.
My buddy Kirk, when we come back. Still here on Peacock, everybody. Still here. Money line's the way to go. Should I text Kurt to see if he's in like some sort of Valley or something.
He's going to have good where he's coming from. He'll be fine. You think so? Yeah.
There's towers between Arizona and Los Angeles. I'm going to check the Vegas. Because when you come over to this little hill, I mean, I'm just gonna go. How many of you know where cell towers are? I've driven a thousand times and I've lost the drive.
We had yesterday Ryan Garcia, who lit up the Twitterverse and the internet yesterday, based on his appearance here yesterday. Victorville, California. And we all like, huh, that town sounds familiar. Anybody who's ever driven from Los Angeles to Las Vegas knows a lot of these towns. Barstow, did we determine that Barstow is the midpoint?
Barstow is the midpoint. Victorville's like a half hour before Barstow.
So, going from Los Angeles, you hit Victorville, then you hit. Yeah, Victorville is great because they have every fast food restaurant known to man.
So, if you're hungry, you stop at Victorville. And a phenomenal thing. Exact same stuff. If I'm not mistaken, the town of Barstow is in the first paragraph of Fear and Loathing. in Las Vegas.
Buy Hunter S. Thompson. That's how they're doing. Hunter the the book begins with he goes from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on the drive, that Barstow is right around where the drugs began to take hold. I believe that is the first line of.
I haven't read that book in a long time. Let's see if I can find if I'm not mistaken. When I was a kid, that was the first paperback I remember my brother had. It's like, what is fear and loath? But we drew, we did drive.
Remember, I told that story the other day. The first Vegas act I ever saw was Slappy White and Red Fox. We said it on Red Fox's birthday. And how we stayed at a hotel where, you know, it's. It's not very expensive.
We drove, so I remember seeing a lot of these towns. Rich, well done. It is the fifth word. Wow. We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.
I remember that, man. Hunter S. Thompson. Well done. Oof.
You know, look at me. Rich. Look at me. Take that. Seriously.
Anybody else? I'll go toe-to-toe. I don't know what I'm saying. Football season's not going to be a good one. I think we should change the sign from best dad to best memory ever.
No, no, no, no. No, no, no, I don't have that. I mean, Kurt might be around Joshua Tree. He should be fine.
Okay. Mike, because Mike knows where all the cell towers are around Joshua Tree. Joshua Tree, that's you too. Hour three coming up.
