Stupid Mm-hmm. Rule. This, this, this is the Rich Eisen Show. It's a tough bat! He fumbled.

Into the end zone and out of the end zone. The number of people that texted me, there's your rule. He lost it because he dove for the pylon. I don't care. I don't care.

Earlier on the show, Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones. Coming up. Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers. Plus, from the Netflix film Outside the Wire, actor Anthony Mackey. And now.

And Sure. Rich eyes. All right, everybody, hour number two of the Rich Islands Show on the Air: my conversation with Doc Rivers, the Philadelphia 76ers head coach, former Los Angeles Clippers head coach, former Boston Celtic champion head coach. My guy. Doc Rivers.

Here on The Rich Islands. He was one of our earliest in-studio guests when we started this show. That's right. Like December 2014, like way. Is that right?

That was the first time he was on here. Yeah. Because it was a a quick hop, skip, and a jump for him to come from practice to come here, or from here to practice. We're here in El Segundo, California, nearby the old Clippers practice facility. Exact date.

That's right. That's pretty cool.

So, Doc's been a friend. We could call him a friend of the program. He's an FOP. He's been here a few times. Friend of the program, Doc Rivers.

Yeah, December 2nd, 2014. How about that? Damn, we were only a couple of months old. Yeah. An OG FOP.

Yeah, you know me. I'm sorry. Keep going. I don't know. I mean, keep going.

I'm just dropping beats. Oh, boy. Bars, Rich. You're dropping bars. Is that what I'm doing?

Bars. Tell two folks as if you've got any street credibility of your own. I do, Rich. I'm a DJ for 40 bucks. Your boat has no name.

You have no cred. I do have credit.

Well, who sang that song, Horse with the Dead? What it does is your boy Big Snoop D.O. Double G coming at you live from Los Angeles. And my DJ, DJ Mikey D. D.

D is in Discretz. D is in Dress. I mean, as much as I hate to agree with Mike on that, I mean, who has a Snoop drop? He got the big Snoop Dog. And Larry King.

Excuse me. Who got Snoop to come in here? Liz? Ah! I love you, T J.

Liz booked him. Liz booked him. But it's not like Snoop's like, tell me about the host. When he said yes, I don't know, Richard to come in here. Maybe if Liz approached Snoop, he'd probably be like, Yeah, I'll come in.

I'll come out of TJ. I'm just saying. You had something to do with it, obviously, because Mike, what is this? This is the rich eyesing show. We can't get it.

It's very rare that I start an hour of this show wanting a mulligan. Take that for data. Thank you, Coach Fisdale. Thanks, Coach Fizz. Where were we?

This got off the rails in a hurry. This just went right and left. I don't think we're off the rails. This is what people are. Wait to get to the poll question.

Oh, yeah, yeah. We have yet to unpack our poll questions for today. Chris, what do you have over there?

Okay, so we talked so much yesterday about the games. from the previous day, That um, that we didn't do overreaction Monday, so we've got an overreaction Tuesday to get to as well. All kinds of stuff.

Okay, so what's your poll question? The ones I was thinking about this morning, just a lot of Deshaun Watson.

So, where's he playing next season? A Houston, New York, Miami, other. Thinking about the new head coaches, we've got four new ones so far. That's right. Arthur Smith, Brandon Staley.

Yeah. Yeah. Urban Meyer. Urban Meyer. Which team of the new head coach has the best twenty twenty one season?

Jags, Falcons, Chargers. Come on, man. You know everyone's going to take Urban Meyer because he's Urban Meyer. Really? You don't think?

I kind of think the Chargers might win this. You wanna hear you really think so?

Okay. They got the best. Put that out there. Put that out there. I just think there's an urban, there's a lot of people who are just, and rightfully so.

are believe that urban is going to be as successful in the NFL with Trevor Lawrence year one, and have a completely different Look, Jacksonville Jaguar team. Out there. And then there was another part. By the way, there's one part before you move on to the next one. There's one part about the urban mire higher.

That won't play out next year unless there's a playoff matchup. And I don't know, by the way, I did look this up. The Dolphins team that went to the playoffs in the year that. Brady blew his knee out. Yeah, 2008.

The team that went to the playoffs won 11 games that year, right? Which was enough due to tiebreaks to send the 11 win. Patriots home. They didn't make the playoffs that year, even though they won. Matt Kennedy, I know, right?

That is the record for most improved wins by a team with one win. in the next year. They drafted first overall. If you remember, Jake Long and all that business.

So that's the bar that's being set high right now. I think Jackson Hill makes the playoffs.

Okay, so then it's possible. Yeah, I think they do. Nobody's talked about this yet. But this is the way my brain is obviously wired. How Badly.

Do you think John Harbaugh wants that urban mire right now. And the Ravens. When the Ravens play Urban Meyer. How for payback for Jim? Do you think John Harbaugh.

He will deny it. He will deny it as the day is short or long. He will deny it. Whenever he takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Ravens will play the Jaguars at some point.

So, not next year. It is not there. Remember when Urban got hired? I said, Didn't I get in your ear? I'm like, Are the Ravens on the list?

Yeah. So this was this was the other day when we were talking about it. This was the other day. How ba he will deny it and it'll be asked of him. Before the game, at least once, twice, then a reporter who hasn't been part of the previous day's interviews will ask him again, and he'll just.

But He is gonna, who's got it better than us? All sorts. of ways. on that day. I'm telling you.

I'm telling you and I'm telling you.

So, you think it'll be in the playoffs next year, which I think would be. Wild. That would be a vast improvement of wins, a vast improvement of wins with a rookie quarterback, no less. The Dolphins had Chad Pennington. That's true.

Okay. But I'm just looking at the landscape of the fringe teams that got in this year. I don't think Pittsburgh makes the playoffs next year. Really? Baltimore.

Dude, you're sitting here right now? Wow, that was. That was quite an offhanded. Oh, yeah, I don't think a team with one of the best defenses all year before they got hurt with Bud Dupree and Devin Bush and everybody. Great.

How are they going to score points? Did you watch the quarterback play the last five six weeks? I understand that. I think that they will hit the running game and hit it very hard in a way that can be fixed. They can effectively.

I wouldn't. You can't really say they're a fringe to be able to do it. I wouldn't discuss. Yeah, by the way. That's a hell of a fringe.

French. You guys call the Steelers a French team. The North is not getting three playoff teams next year. How do you know that?

Okay, so there's one at least. How do you know that?

Come on. How do you know that?

There's turnover every year. Half the teams don't make it year to year.

Okay? I get that. I understand that. I understand that. But that would also mean that somebody from.

Another division would have to send. you know more than 22. Washa Watson's not going to be on Houston. They're not going to make it. Tennessee might take a step back.

Jacksonville was Tennessee another one of your fringe teams? Is Tennessee another one of your fringe teams? Derrick Henry has about 8,000 carries the last two years. They're going to take a step back, Tennessee.

So your Patriots will take a step forward. I don't think so. You're feeling it because it's the 19th anniversary of the snow game, as you refer to today. Snow game. Snow game anniversary.

Question: Are we going back to seven playoff teams next year? Yeah, that's here to say. Dude, there's going to be a 17th week of regular season action. There might be 18 weeks. Oh, yeah.

At this point next year, we'll be talking about the divisional playoffs to come. Yeah. Okay. We'll just have been coming off of super wild card weekends in 2022. Yeah.

Did I keep it? Yeah, man. Is that next year, or they talk about it? I think it's next year. Or they're voting for it.

I just don't know, because the Super Bowl might have already been. Scheduled for a certain day here in Los Angeles, but I don't know. But yeah, it's coming. The seven seven team playoffs is here to stay, sir. Remember how everyone hated it and now we all love it?

It's the greatest thing ever. I admitted that on the day of the first trip. You know, when we're settling in for. Uh Brady Taylor Heineke. We're settling in for that.

Now I'm like, oh, this is the greatest. How come we've never played three games in a day? Even though it is a long time, you know, 10 hours. And I think doing back-to-back triple headers, I don't think we'll see again. Because the numbers, the ratings were down.

Yeah. Super weekend. And so I part of that might be because we were all glued with what the hell was going on and Our nation's capital. Like a lot of people might have been watching more news, but it's also a tough ask to tell everybody. You know, I do it professionally, and it was a tough ask in my own house to say dad's got 21 and a half hours of television to watch over the next two days, okay?

Like, it's that ain't easy. On the weekend, when they're usually used to having you, they might slop, they might take one of those triple letters and put one on Monday night, as Peter King mentioned here. Monday double dip, why not? Not a Monday double dip, it's just a single Monday game.

So two Saturday, three Sunday, one Monday. Might be.

So what's but at any rate?

So. I'm just putting that out there for the urban versus harbaugh and the pros. I like it. Taste like that week.

So, what's your other poll question?

So, my other one was, and this was just kind of offhand. You kind of heard the end of it as you were walking out pre-show. Yes. It's the 49th anniversary of Sandy Koufax's induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Is he the greatest Jewish athlete of all time?

So, what would that list even look like? Yeah. Are you saying that this was discussed. And then All the non-Jews on The Rich Eisen show Floor staff. Yeah.

Got their heads together and came up with a list of Jewish athletes.

Well, Adam is a member of the tribe. Oh, so Adam was here. Adam was here. Yeah, yeah. He was the lone Jew mentioned in this process.

Uh-huh. Um he wanted Sid Luckman. Yeah, it's a great one. We were just kind of throwing a lot more baseball players. Did you include Lou Gehrig?

I didn't know he was a member.

Well, his original name was Lou Gerigowitz. Oh. Are you being serious? I never knew that. What?

Are you being serious? Are you being serious? No, I don't know. I never knew that. I never knew that.

He's like, you've got to be making that. But you mentioned this on the way back to get ready for the show. And I thought to myself, I know exactly how I'm going to handle this. Like Babe Ruth Steve. Are you being serious?

Georgie boy, Herman? Big roots? I was like like Edelman is like half, right? His yeah, Babe Ruth's George Herman Ruth is the nick his original nickname was the boy chick. Why?

Not true. Also not true. These facts are not true, and they are not in this book that I do have here on the Rich Eisen Show: Great Jews in Sports. This was given to me years ago. Um I've got him right here.

It is all you've Absolutely. It's autographed by Jeff Schwartz and Alex Bregman. Alex Braden. And they both, here they are. Those are the autographs.

And they both included the Star of David because they signed it. That's amazing. I mean, anytime we have a Josh, we didn't have Josh Rosen. We didn't have Josh Rosen. He did sign the seats.

He did sign the Rosebow seats that were behind you. But who is so Breakout. Who's the list that you came up with? I don't know, like Dolph Shays.

Okay. Like, like, Julian Edmonds, half, Sean Green, Mark Spitz. Rod Carew converted. Just think of the Adam Sandler Hanukkah song. He converted.

We also decided that Amari Staudemeyer should be Amari Staudemeyer's on the list. You know what? Any bot part of the team that you're doing? I'm going to use my host preemptory and say we are not doing this. This is not our album.

No, we're not going to do this, especially since there is nobody better than Sandy Koufax. And Sandy Koufax, by saying Sandy Koufax saying, I am not pitching in a World Series because it's Yom Kippur, not only just set the standard, it raised the bar high for any Jew that works in anything, anywhere.

Okay. Okay. Honestly.

So if the number of times where it's just like, you know, come on. My father, may he rest in peace.

Okay. Whenever I would say, you know, hey. I it's a Sunday, like a game day morning, whatever, and I would Say I'm doing the show and it's Yum Kippur, whatever. He would say, you know, on occasion, he would give up eventually, but he would. Tell me about Sandy Kolfax.

And I'm like, okay. I get it. I understand. And it's just like, hey, Sandy. He's at the bar very high.

Yeah, you know, and my dad wasn't much of a sports guy. Yeah. But he would always whom my mom went on a date with back in Brooklyn. Wait, say what? What?

Absolutely. Why was this the first time I've heard this in 12 years? What are you talking about? Are you serious? Yeah.

Oh, come on, Rich. You got to speak. This is geography. Yeah, absolutely. Can we call your mom?

For the plus. For the watch. Don't share this story. How did it come about? Are you asking my mother for details?

Like, what are you talking about? This is the matter with you. Sandy Koufax, though. This isn't like. This is like 30 years from now, Cage going, hey, my mom went on a date with Michael Jordan.

This isn't like. Yes, this is big news, Rich. Can you? This is kind of huge, actually. I've never heard this before.

I mean, I don't know. It's like I've... Yeah, it actually happened. How old were they? I don't know.

I don't want to talk about it. I don't even know why I brought it up. How did you find out about this? Oh, she told me once upon a time. Then I saw him at a golf tournament.

I saw him at a golf tournament.

Well, look, anybody who grew up around Sandy Kolfax in Brooklyn will tell you they know Sandy Kolfax. I mean, he's like literally the. The greatest Jewish athlete of all time. Are you kidding me? Come on now.

Okay, so your dad brings in. I ran into Sandy Koufax at a. Charity golf tournament once, and he brought it up to him. And what did he say? Nothing.

Like I'm an idiot.

So, when your dad was doing up Koufax, was he like, well, was he kind of like angry? Look, my dad. You know. Married he's married to my mother for fifty-five, fifty-six years. Hook.

That's that's that's that's That's water underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. I'm just saying, Rich, this was almost the first time. The Rich Koufak show. All right. It was definitely never close to the Rich Koufak show.

It was never. TJ is never close today. DJ. It has never been remotely close to that. You have to go for the drive back.

That's true.

It has never. Even in the galaxy of the rich Kofak Show. Did they go to high school together? I don't know. Why would you say this?

Somebody coached me. I'm not going to ask you about it. This is the rich up top. That is horrendous. Richard, are you left-handed?

I'm not, I forget. The name of the show is on this sign behind me.

Okay. And you're using your left hand to point at it. Oh, gosh, that is. It's because it's the closest hand. TJ.

Yeah. Cooper's left-handed. I mean, come on. This is so bad. You guys are idiots.

And your Paul questioned sticks. Use the football one. I'm sweating. Oh my god. Let's take a break.

Song. Restrictions apply. First up, Celebrity True or False with Bulp on True or False, you eat soup every single day, is that true? Yes, true. Why is that?

Yeah, because like it's a big deal in my country soup and we eat soup every time. This is like when you're growing up you say hey first you start your meal with the soup and after that you can eat whatever you like.

Okay. It's not basically it's it's it's like how how we do. Like in y when you eat soup, like basically you feel like you're healthy because like a little bit fully or stomach and like you're not hungry too much.

So do you at some point during the day, oh you know what I haven't eaten soup yet, I need to have my favorite soup? Butman squash, chicken noodle soup, tomato soup, marshmallow soup, everything like.

Okay. Have you thought about making your own line of soup? Boban soup. Boban soup. You know, like this is a good idea.

I will think about it. Yeah, let's pound that out. I will think about it. I will think about it. Next one for Bobon, celebrity true or false with Bobon.

You do not like cake. You do not like cake. No cakes. Not a big fan. Why?

What's wrong with you? No case. I like small desserts. If I eat something, I will eat something to enjoy because small desserts. They're all small.

They're all small teeth. Everything.

So if I have you over for dinner, soup, Nutella Crepe. Yes. Okay, that's the easy. That's the combination. That's very simple.

It's like this, like a couple bucks, nothing more, nothing too much. Last one for you, Boban, true or false, you love to shake hands. To be honest, people more like to shake my hands than I to shake. You know, every time, you know, like when somebody comes to me, like, I just come from the restroom, I wash my hands, I ready to eat food. And I was like walking like this.

I hope somebody will shake my hands. And that time, like, somebody comes, hey, how are you? And I was like, how are you? That's when you go at the fist round, right? Yeah, I know.

I know. Thank you. The fifth pound just shows you just what a large human is. Yeah, I think didn't we take a photograph of the fist pound or whatever? And then all of us are just looking at a marble meeting a medicine ball.

Yeah, yeah. Right? I look like Beaubon's child. In the picture, and I'm big.

Sort of like you on the YouTube header, right? Yeah. Look at that right there. I mean, it's seriously. That's insane.

Like, he can't even get. He doesn't probably own jeans, right? Like, he's got to wear sweats. Yeah, everything looks Capri on him. Yeah.

You have pants like that. Yeah, but they, because it's style. Oh, is that what it is? Not because it's mobile. Hey, look, I got it.

Oh, my God. That's insane. Yeah, we could be. Brockman, does he have like his hand up your back? Is it Ventriloquist or something?

I mean, seriously. Like, seriously, I barely come up to his boob. Like, it's crazy. Uh We're back here on the Rich Eisen Show. We're back on the rails, everybody.

Woof.

So you uh Susie texted me. My wife? My wife. My wife. She just wrote, This is insane.

Yeah, because it was insane. Yeah. Right.

Well, there you go. Stop looking at me like that. You guys are just freaking me out right now. No, I mean, I want you to call your mother. Call your mother.

Oh, yeah. Wait. And ask her what. Just in case. I mean, I.

Don't do it, Chris. Don't do it. All right. You're right. You're right.

No, did they go well where they ought to go? I don't recall. I mean, it's like Brooklyn in the 40s, man. You know what I mean? Because she opened his door for him, like, you know, collageno-style in a Bronx tail.

The what? You know, a Bronx tale. A Bronx tale. No, it was a Brooklyn tale, is really what it was. Oh, my God.

Let's go to my interview that I had yesterday. I love this guy. You said December, right? This is the first time, December of 2014. One of our first ever in-studio guests in the history of our show.

Now it's 2021. I chatted with him on MLK Day. It was a day off for the Philadelphia 76s. Our friend Doc Rivers. As promised, joining me here on the Rich Osin Show for the first time on Zoom and for the first time is the Philadelphia 76ers head coach, friend of the program, Doc Rivers.

How are you, Doc? I am doing terrific.

Sorry about the light background in the back. You know, that's a. Motion detectors, I guess, but I'm doing absolutely phenomenal. You know, we were trying to have an NBA season. through COVID.

And we're finding out that It's difficult. You know, I think we knew that though.

So that's why I guess that's where I want to begin with you because there was a game recently where it was the Philadelphia 7 Sixers, it felt like to me, Doc. Yeah. That's I should have used that. That's pretty good. Yeah, you know, the Philadelphia Seven Sixers.

I mean, 'cause it obviously you you were in the bubble with the Clippers and now going through this outside of a bubble. Are there any concerns from you that this is? Going to be paused at any point in time because I know the NFL season, we went through a period where I felt that maybe, but then it didn't. And the same thing with baseball, didn't, but it did feel at that point as well. What do you think?

Yeah, well, I'm hoping not. Let me put it that way. I think we're at that point right now. There's concern, Rich, that we're going to have the pause. I don't.

Want to have a pause. I don't think a pause would be good for us, if you know what I mean. Uh But it also was very difficult. We played a game with eight players dressed, only seven available. the other night and to give away a game.

is very difficult. It's what you don't want to do. Um Like football and baseball, there's so many players on a roster. No basketball, there's 15 players. and there's probably only eight or nine that have been played per team.

And so if you have two or three guys out, it makes a major difference.

So, obviously, you know, Seth Curry got it on your team. And I mean, what do you do with your protocol? I mean, how do you tell your players when something is obviously going around to the point where it feels like half the country has it? But what do you tell your players? I mean, it's immediate.

It's immediate. I think the NBA does a great job. You know, Seth. Was out in that game. And then immediately, like we found out, I think it was halftime, right?

of the game and they came and grabbed them. They isolate them immediately and then they do all the contract tracing. which is amazing how well that the NDA at least does that. And unfortunately, would contract tracing with a basketball team. It's pretty close contact with a lot of guys.

I think what did we lose? Five guys just because they sat at a dinner table with them. that morning and even though the chairs showed that there was space. We deemed they still were too close.

So they're all out and they, you know, it was frustrating. Rich, I would say it was very frustrating for those guys. because it's 15 days or five days, right? And they're healthy. But they can't play.

Because they have to wait till the testing results come back. I thought that was, you know, I hadn't seen that yet. It's the first time it happened to us. I thought that was the biggest thing is with the other guys being frustrated that they're healthy and can't play. Yeah.

Doc Rivers here on the Rich Eisen Show.

So, okay, COVID aside, how do you? Like your team right now, Doc. It seems like Embiid is playing out of his skull right now, and you do have a bunch of injured players, but some youngsters that Daryl Maury got you in the draft. It seems like people are beginning to gel despite the stop and start with COVID and not. What do you got for me on that?

I love our team. You know, and. I think we're seven and oh, Rich, when we're all healthy. We just haven't had a lot of health of late, or I don't even know what you call it if it's not health. We just haven't had player availability.

of late. You know, we still are a new team. It would be nice, especially now if we can just get together and practice and be together. We just can't, but I like the makings of the markings of this basketball team. What is MB'd like?

Oh, he's great. First of all, he's... I love conversations with him because he's ex and you've heard it that. He's just a very bright guy. Uh and so You know, I like our exchanges, I like our discussions because it's more than.

Just basketball. That we're talking about. Actually, I have a lot of guys. It's a really bright team in that way going through the whole thing right now, through not just COVID, but. A lot of the social justice issues and just social issues.

in general. It's been really good. Having conversations with these guys. And we also have a team full of a couple of, like three or four rookies. That we're teaching them along the way.

And it's good for them to see that it's more than just basketball. that is discussed in Pro Sports. Doc Rivers here on The Rich Eisen Show. You know, we're all thrust in many times in our jobs where you don't know. That you're about to be thrust into a certain role.

You know, obviously, you experienced that with the Clippers, with Donald Sterling back in Los Angeles. And then during the bubble, when social justice was quite Quite on the forefront of everybody's minds in the country, but certainly in the NBA and the NBA players. You had a soliloquy in a post-game press conference about America, about people of color in America. And it turned into a Lincoln Project advertisement. Millions of people saw it.

Did you ever think you would be in a position of being a social justice? Face front individual in the NBA, Doc? No, nor do I care to be. Uh But You know, listen, I come from Chicago and I come from a family. that has always been involved in what's right is right, you know.

It's funny, we do call it social justice or injustice. My parents used to say what's right is right, you know, equality for all. And you know, my dad always said something, Rich, that I think more people should hear. Just because one group of people want equality, and in this case, it's many groups, it's not just blacks, it's a lot of people that want it. you know just because they want equality doesn't mean they're taking away your equality You know, what they're saying is they want the same thing.

They want equal rights, and equal rights should not be a political statement. It should be something that we all morally want. for each other But we still all need to listen to each other. as well and I think as a country we have to do a better job of that. Where do you think everything is in terms of the NBA?

As you know, the NBA said that they were going to get involved and there was, you know, there was a conversation in the bubble about not playing. The NBA and the owners got together and said that We want to map out a plan. Where do you think that plan sits right now? I think that plan is great. I mean, we already have done things, getting arenas as voting venues for the elections were terrific.

We have a social justice council now. that I'm on. That is going to do good work because it's not just us, we're hiring outside people. to lead us, to target things that we need to. Be aware of.

And so, what I loved about the bubble, number one, was that it was about the young people, you know? Obviously, I said what I said and I got a lot of the rub. uh but what people didn't see was all the young people being involved and being emotional. and trying to figure out where to go with all this stuff. Uh And they targeted several areas, and they're doing it.

Um I love where not just the NDA. Is that with young people? I love the young people right now in America. have decided that they do have a say. and they're going to get involved in the voting process.

They're going to involve in politics. Because let's just be honest, politics. I'm involved in you. Every single day.

So when you hear people say, I don't want to get involved, I'm thinking, okay, but it's involved in you.

So you might as well get. Involved. Doc Rivers here on the Rich Edison Show.

Okay. So Why why the Sixers, Doc? What what attracted you to Wind up in Philadelphia when you always understand the conversations that people have about Embiid and Simmons not being able to really be a cohesive unit and all the politics to use the phrase that might have been involved. within that locker room. Why throw your hat in that ring?

I saw their ability and I saw that they were young. You know, both very young guys. And, you know, it's funny, the narrative, not just here, but in a lot of places. You know, when I was thinking about taking a job, I was getting calls. You know, they haven't won anything.

And I said, but these keep forgetting to say yet. You know, it's the yet part that to me, when you're in the mid-20s, yet is a big word, you haven't done a lot of things yet. You know, and so for me, that's why I looked at this group. because there's a group of two young superstars. that are young, they have a lot of basketball left in them.

And I wanted to play a part in that. I also like the city. Like, I love. A town that is nuts about sports. You know, people forget I was in Boston for a long time, and you can't get better than Boston.

As far as that in Philly, very similar. When you're in the grocery store, in Boston and a grocery store in Philly. There's a great chance an 80-year-old lady is going to tell you, you need to play and beat more. You know, they're going to give you their opinion. I love that.

I think that's when you have a city that is invested in sports, like my Chicago Bears and the team of Chicago.

Well, I'm going to get to that in one second. Don't you worry. But I love the fact that you, I love the fact, you know, you're, I can, I can say this, you're one of my favorite people, and so is Daryl Maury. I just love that he, you know, whenever he's been on my show, he just spits the truth. And on occasion, he knows where that line is between getting fined by Adam Silver or not.

And it's just fun just listening to Pick His Mind. You talk about smart people as well. How do you and he mesh? How do you think you and he worked together that Philadelphia Sixers fans might want to know about just oh very well first of all we had a relationship You know, we were in Boston together. I told him, Now, let's not do the same thing because we're in Boston doing the losing years in Boston.

I said, let's be in Philly together doing the winning years now.

So that helped. It also helped the moment I was fired from the Clippers, my first call. Literally, to me, was Daryl Morland. He calls right away and wants me to come to Houston. And I told him, no, that's not going to happen.

I jokingly said, yo. Hey, why don't you come to Philly with me? And I was literally joking with him because I told him that's probably where I would be going. And then, you know, listen, it worked out, but the relationship with Helm and Elton and me. Uh we literally talk every day.

We're open bugs. I love his brain. I just love his brain. I think he's one of the smarter men. Uh, in team sports, and I and I really believe that he has the ability to see trades and see the cap.

and see maneuvers, not just for now, but for later. That's not me. I can't do that. But what he does well and what we do well is we listen to each other. You know, Daryl has had several trades so far and I said, no.

Don't want to do that, and he moves on, you know. And so that's the type of relationship you have to have. When you have coach and management, I think it works that way. Did one of them involve a now former Houston rocket? No, no, no.

That was obviously a big thing, obviously. And as I said after that, I'm glad where we're at right now.

Sometimes the best trades you do is the ones you don't do. And I'm hoping that's the case.

So, before I let you go, I'll give you the floor. What do you think the Bears should do with Trubisky? I think they should keep them. I'm a keeper. I know I'm not in the minority.

In that, I think, I know it. I think they should keep him. He's a good player. He's solid. He got better this year.

You know, I love, first of all, and I'm going to say this, not because I'm a darn coach, all right? I'm a Bears fan. I love they kept Nagy. I'm a big Nagy fan. I'm bullish on him as well.

I love our defense. I think we're closer than people think. You know that that's not what, let's say, an 80-year-old woman in a supermarket in Chicago is telling Matt. It's not what my brother is saying right now. This is what I say.

Do you reach out to Naggy? Do you coach? Oh, yeah, yeah. We text back and forth all the time. You know, we have a great relationship.

He brought me in during COVID to talk to the team. Uh, and I did also, you know, talk to a couple other teams. As I say, I always talk to my brother Philip Rivers, no matter where he's at.

So, you know, I love football. I, you know, that, man. I love football. I love the workings of it. It's so much more complicated in some ways.

than basketball, but the execution. Of plays and what just makes me love that sport. Yeah, the neck up stuff is really intense. And obviously, people have to do the neck up stuff while looking across the line of scrimmage, know that there's 11 grown-ass men that are coming to try and take them out.

So, you want to handicap the field here, NFC, AFC Championship game? You got to do that. Man, that's it's it's two tough calls. I, I'm. You know, I got Casey.

If Mahone's place. Right.

I don't know. I think that. might be trending in that direction, but you never know. And then You know where I'm going with this. I got Tom Brady.

All right, and Aaron Rodgers is the MVP. But he's a packer. I'm from Chicago and I just can't do it. I can't. I just can't.

So I'm going with Tom Brady as my sager. Right.

Have you ever teated up with Tom? You ever played with him? I have not. I've been at the club with him, you know, at Bel Air, but I've yet to play with him. Yeah.

I mean, because, yeah, I guess the only guy you could compare him to is would be Jordan in the fact that every slide is personal. Don't look at him the wrong way because you might get the horns. You know what I'm saying? I love his leadership. You know, I don't know what it is about guys like him, but they have the ability to lead no matter where they're at.

And people don't realize. Great leaders have to get people to follow. And when you're in pro sports, to get a whole locker room to follow you with all those egos. means you're magical. And actually, Aaron is pretty good at it as well.

Okay, that's my one Packer compliment. All right, that's it, that's it for me. Uh, but Brady is the best leader, uh, not only as a quarterback, but best leader in football in a very long time. All right, Doc, thanks for the time. Have a great day.

Be healthy. My God. All right. Hope to see your team as one and seeing them back to full strength real soon. Thanks for the time.

Thanks, Rich. Nice seeing you. Right back at you. That's Doc Rivers right here on the Rich Eisen Show. What'd you think?

He's your guy. Clap your hands, everybody, for the Philadelphia 76. He's your guy. See s he knew right off the top of his head, we're seven and oh and everybody's healthy and everybody's here. I agree.

Can we just not cut? Can we not count those games in the middle? No, no, no, no. No, they have to be counted? You know, yes, they do.

Okay. It's interesting. During that conversation. Kyrie spoke, and Deshaun Watson tweeted.

So there's lots to talk about. Let's take a break. When we come back, what did Kyrie say? And I need help on interpreting what Deshaun Watson tweeted. I'll be very honest with you.

Actor Paul Rudd, who is now here in full Kansas City Royals white baseball uniform with the special gold trim. It's his opening day here. Wow. And a Royals hat. No glove.

No glove. Rub on the back. 42? And are those shades from the the They're from Carl Laugerfeld. Is this Kansas City Royals issued?

Did you get the I mean, because you got the belt, you've got the shoes, do you have the stirrups? I have stirrups.

Okay. I have stirrups.

I uh I forgot to pack them. Would a TSA stop you? Yeah, yeah. You can go in Royal Blue Soup. You're not allowed to take toothpaste.

If you'd only put it in the plastic, bottled water and stirrups. Tell everybody who sent you this. Tell everybody. Go ahead. Yeah, go ahead.

The jersey? Yeah. My mom. Your mom sent it to me. My mom sent it to me for my birthday.

Come on, man. Thanks, Mom. Isn't that great? Walking around, just walk around the studio space. Explore the studio space.

There's Paul Rudd right behind me with the sunglasses. Just freak people out, is there? Can we raise the sh. I guess the blind's here, so there's Paul. Is Paul just going back there?

Just walk into the cafeteria like that and see what happens. There he is, just staring at people as they're going about their business on the campus here for ATT in his full-on white Kansas City Royals jersey. Does this affect the flare? Yeah, this is a flare situation, but there you go. People are looking right in there and saying, wow, what is Paul Ruck to just chilling out there?

There you go. Get down there, Paul. Right here on the Rich Eisen Show. Oh, yeah. Paul Rudd is in, you know, one of his many fantasy leagues that he's been, that he calls in to the show and we talk about whenever he's on the program is Anthony Mackey, third-hour guest.

I think he is in the Avengers League. Remember, he told us he's in an Avengers League? I think Anthony Mackey's in it. How about that? So we'll talk to Anthony Mackey about it now at number three.

Mm-hmm. Mr. Mayor, on NBC on Thursday nights, check out Ted Danson in the new comedy on NBC. And On Peacock Streaming the next day, is Ted Dancing the Tom Brady of NBC? What do you think?

Cheers. And now he's back. He's back just when you think he's not going to do it anymore. He's got a new comedy. What do you think?

I like that. Boston? Is it Boston mix in here too?

Okay. Sam Malone, very good. Very good. Both athletes. Boy.

844-204-RICH, number to dial right here on the Rich Eisen Show on our radio network. We're back here on our program. 844-204-Rich is the number to dial if you want to have a conversation. Uh here on the show.

Okay. So, Kyrie Irving has spoken. He was asked: if you will, turning around that sound right now to get it, Chris Brockman's going to have a news update top of the next hour. We hope to have it there for sure. If we don't.

Get it in sooner. We'll turn it around. Asked if he violated the health protocols of the NBA, he basically said, I'm back, let's move on.

Okay. Steve Nash said he's going to play Wednesday.

So the triplets, the Brooklyn triplets, will be out there. Yeah. On Wednesday. Against the Caps. It's the cast.

Is it home or away? Because uh either way, I think he needs to burn Sage. Because uh according to Rachel Nichols, he figuratively burned the Sage with his teammates, saying he addressed the team. Everything's copacetic. Everybody's happy.

They're one big happy Brooklyn Net family now. And if he's in Cleveland, he might bring the sage with him. Yeah, they're in Cleveland. Oh, there you go. All right.

Maybe a little pre pre uh pregame smudging. Hmm. Amen. I you know. I'll look forward to hearing what he has to say.

When we can hear a little bit more of it. But he has spoken. He did the Zoom. He's there, so he won't get fined pretty much. And so that'll be maybe one of the last we hear from Kyrie for a while.

Maybe not. Don't know. But it'll be interesting to watch play out of the court in Cleveland, Ohio. Kyrie Durant And now, James Harden altogether. That's scary.

That's so scary. That is scary. We will see what that looks like tomorrow night. Looks like dubs. And well, is it is it up to your team to prevent it?

The plucky Toronto Raptors, who will never know, it'll be playoff Raptor, like there's playoff P and playoff Rondo. It'll be playoff Raptors, one of those teams that'll be just tough to get out. Lowry and Van Vlied, Ananobi, and the rest of them will start to. Yeah. jail again and try and beat them.

Bucks. The Bucks got to get it together. Can the Heat pull it together in the same way? My guy Tyler Hero, who I wouldn't trade. Isn't today his birthday, by the way?

Oh, is he 17 now? I think he's 18. I think he's actually 21. Unbelievable. Don't forget about Boston.

Uh-huh. Tatum will get a healthy again. Eight and four. Right.

And. Kemba's back, right? Kemba's back. Got blasted by the Knicks the other day, but I'm just tossing it. What's going on with the Knicks, man?

They're plucky. I know. They are a plucky squad. Can they be an eighth seed? I think so.

An eighth seed taking on the Nets? Can we have a Knicks Nets 1-8? Can we get that? The Knicks are the sixth seed right now. Look at us.

Just setting up the playoffs. I like that. Now I'm up there. If the playoff started today. Um Here on Peacock, NBC Sports on Peacock, the phrase that pays.

Certainly in the World of Peacock and NBC Universal, the phrase is pivot. Want to pivot? You got to pivot on moments that. That um News breaks and move your show in a direction where everybody's focused on what's going on. I've followed directions, we're pivoting.

Yeah. Because Deshaun Watson during the conversation with Doc Rivers tweeted out. And TJ Jefferson, I need your help, sir. You're our social media grandma, sir. This is the use of social media to communicate.

I do not. kind of understand what he's doing. Uh Don, can you put it up?

Okay, it's a photograph of him. Is that a backseat of a car?

Okay, it's a side view of him. He's in glasses, he's got a ball cap on. Looks like a guy who's like heading to the airport or something, you know? And... And he writes, he tweets out, I've been trying to have some patience.

I told my mama she should pray on it. I know you're laughing. What are you laughing about? I do my news voice, and you're laughing. Chrome Hearts.

With a clear view, and it looks like there's a red line pointed to it. Can you? Well what do you what if I Well, I think this is why you brought me on the show, Rich, is to give you guys a little something that you might not have had before. And Sometimes people tweet stuff and you really shouldn't look that deeply into it. It's just what it is.

But this is actually lyrics from a song title. from future.

Okay. And um You know, right before he gets to that line, he says something that I can't really say on Peacock.

Okay. To make it peacock-friendly, Future says, Diamond's harder than a glacier. Balling harder than the pacers. I've been trying to Have some patience. Told my mama she should pray on it.

Okay. So now you've given us perspective where it's from a song. Mm-hmm. I still don't understand. Like I said, I think sometimes.

He's just talking about a song, but he knows that every single word that he tweets, every single photograph he tweets, is going to be parsed by people like me and everyone else. And I think that's the thing.

Sometimes I'll just. Tweet out a random biggie lyric. It doesn't mean anything. It's just. What about the fact that it's.

From somebody named Future. Can we plug it? Can we plug it? No, I don't know. I don't know.

Yeah, I mean, look, it could be. He could think that deeply into it. You know, he's trying to have patience with what his process is right now. What's his process? Can we glean from anything right here?

I don't know that you can, unless he wants to go to Indiana. For the Pacers. For the Pacers, other than that. Other than that, I don't think we should look too deeply. You can read into things a little too much.

Thank you, sir. What about at the bottom of the tweet? Could you put it up one more time? Chrome Hart's. With a clear view, what is that?

What can we glean from that?

Well, Chrome Hearts is a popular jewelry line. Um They deal a lot with Iron Heart. Could that be? Because he's got some serious bling on his left wrist and right wrist. Could that be?

Could this be just a. Uh An advertisement for For Chrome Hearts. For Chrome Hearts? Who knows? I mean, it could be.

You know, but I think m the biggest part is maybe we look too much in the tweets sometimes and Maybe we should just take them.

So, I am appreciative of you being our social media grandmaester, so you can let us know the ins and outs of social media and things of that stretch and that nature. I'm uh I'm wondering. Who's that person doing it for Cal McNair right now? The opposite of the person who's doing it for the show. Seriously, like, who's doing it for Easter Bee?

If it's Easter Bee doing it for Cal. Oh, jeez. That would explain a lot. You know, I mean, because Certainly if they're only communicating via text. Hey, got your got your message.

Got back. Just got back from vacation or whatever. And just here's a future lyric. Yeah. And they're just trying to figure out what he wants.

Why won't he just say, I want out like Harden? Why hasn't he done that? I think Rich Big. Because he doesn't want out. Deep down, he wants this to work, but he wants it to be heard.

You know, like. If he comes out and says it, then there's going to be a group of people who are going to instantaneously turn on him. I think Texans fans would turn on Matt. If he says, I want out of here, I don't think a single, I don't know of a single Texan fan, I don't know many, but people can call here. I don't know of a Texan fan that would blame it on Deshaun.

You know, a lot of times sports fans hate the fact that these athletes have the ability to kind of chart their own course.

So I do believe that as soon as a guy comes out and says, I want out, there are a group of people who will then turn on him because they just don't like the fact that he has the ability.

So maybe his silence is golden. I'll tell you what. I know, I would proffer to say there are many NFL players rooting for Deshaun Watson to get out of Houston. And it's not because, well, Houston's such a stout opponent with him here. Let's break up the Texans.

It would be to, on behalf of of NFL players. pull off something that's an NBA player move. I think Watson has a ton of. Players root and form. and NFL management.

Trying to Basically, say, Cal, get your stuff together and keep this guy here because. There, but for the grace of the football gods, go you. With your star player, you better make sure your star player is not just financially taken care of, but everything else. Because if Deshaun can speak this into existence, just like what Hardin did to the Nets, and as I started the show by saying what how Harden's doing with the Nets is definitely not helpful for the Texans with Deshaun. You know.

Um uh this is a this is I don't know. If he's saying that there's patience and there's a future, Lyric, then maybe there's an opportunity for some sort of reconciliation. I have. You're telling me to don't read anything into it is basically what you're saying. Unless there's something to read into.

Unless there's something. Thanks, TJ. Great job. Kyle McNair online, one for you. What up, Cal?

Anthony Mackey. One of the best of the best star of Netflix is outside the wire. Big Saints fan coming up in hour three. You know, maybe that's another thing we could do here. On the Rich Eisen Show.

As you know, I'd like to start RES consulting. RES consulting. Because if owners and NFL teams are going to hire, you know. Yeah. Head-hunting search firms and give them.

copious amounts of money, and then in the case of the Texans not even listen to their advice. We could do that for him. Oh, no doubt. Right.

Maybe we can RES consulting. Help. decipher social media for NFL management. Again, remember remember how many times Somebody had to probably bring to Tom Coughlin's attention something on social media: like, who's that guy? Right, the reality is.

Who's the person also when something would happen that would affect the decision that Commissioner Goodell would make? Who's that person? Right.

Okay, Commissioner, this is what was tweeted out. Who's the person that Had to tell Arn Rooney what was being Facebook lived out. Who's the person that had to tell Mayok what Antonio Brown was up to? Or Gruden, you know? Like each organization has to have that person.

Maybe it could all be centralized and let us do it. Ari is consulting. And you're the one to do it. It would be non-stop. We could just start with the NFL and then branch out to all.

Sports. We need to diversify our incomes, guys. Let's do this. You know what I mean? Search the tweet, whatever post that you look at.

RES consulting. You need a coach, you need a general manager. We'll tell you. We know. And we have expertise on a lot of different levels here and there.

Like Datufa, Scrodgen, you, me, no, Don.

Somebody had to let Cal McNair know. What Deshaun Watson just tweeted out? And he has to be. As absolutely in the dark about it as I am.

Okay? And somebody has to tell him: A, Deshaun tweeted this out, and B, this is our assessment of what he's trying to communicate to you. That's a commodity that I think we could provide, don't you think? I'm with you, Rich. What do we charge per tweet?

What do we got to charge? I don't know. Let's come up with a business plan. It's a case-by-case basis. Mike, let's make the PowerPoint first.

Got it. And then get a LinkedIn account or whatever you're supposed to do. I got a LinkedIn account. I'm good. No, because we're about to get paid.

You and Chad. We're about to get paid. RES Consulting. Here we go. Here we go.

Although, our first assignment with Deshaun is a big shrug emoji. You know? Anthony Mackey on hour three. We're in a row. Yeah.
