What is Matt Ryan's future with your team?

Well, the same future with every other player on this team, but I can't predict the future right now for you, Rich. The Rich Eisen Show. Today's guests, legendary ESPN host Chris Berman. Actor Keegan Michael Key, Tennessee Titans running back Derek Henry, plus co-host of Peacock's brother from another, Michael Smith, and now. It's your Rich Eyes.

All right, everybody, welcome to this edition of The Rich Eyes and Show. I am your humble host on a very busy Thursday before the Super Bowl week, and I am wearing mauve. Facts. Spitting facts. That's all I do for three hours.

Sitting in this chair, spit facts. That's what I do.

Socially distant from my good friend Chris Brockman. Good to see you over there. Hey, brother, what's happening? How are you? The Bill Walsh of audio is off today.

Mike Del Tufo is off. Good to see you over there, my kind friend. Did you get his name, Jason? I did not. I did not.

No, I'm waiting for TJ Jefferson to sit down in his chair, actually. I'm working perfectly. Good to see you, Mr. Feller. How are you?

Good to see you, TJ Jefferson. Good to see you over there. Hold the line, folks. Hold the line. Hold the line.

All good to see everybody right here. Hold the line. Okay. Here's where we're starting today.

Okay, bud. Because yesterday was a little off the rail. No, no, no. No, I knew yesterday was going to be a little loose. It could be loose today, too.

I mean, Keegan Michael Key's on the program. I love that guy. That guy makes me laugh. I find him a delight. Got to stay loose.

You know, we've seen some Super Bowls with him before. He's always a guest in RG1's box. Love it. At any rate. Here's how we're starting today.

Chris. Imagine you're a football lifer. I mean, I pretty much am, but no. I'm talking about a real bona fide football lifer. It is your profession.

Like Wade Phillips. You are a coach. A football lifer. Love it. I'm in.

Okay, you're a football lifer. Let's just say. You start your coaching career as the running backs coach at Austin P University in 1978. That's what I'm talking about. PFAL and the Brockman PA.

Okay, then you, then, then you were a wide receiver coach and you're alma mater in Vanderbilt, right? I'm just throwing hypothetically speaking. Then you then jump to middle Tennessee State, Chattanooga, southwestern Louisiana, and Texas El Paso. Texas AM gives you a ring finally. And then all of a sudden, Sam Weitz, of all people, knocks on your door and says, I'd like you to be.

I'd like you to be my. Wide receiver coach at Tampa Bay Buccaneers. All right. And then you go from there to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Bill Cower for a couple of years. That's a bird thing.

I always think it's a lot of fun. Then all of a sudden you find yourself a long time home with, say, Who's in the Super Bowl now? Andy Reid, okay, in Philadelphia.

Okay, and then you spend a decade with him, and then you go after that decade with him to Kansas City.

Okay, you wind up. Going with a a read Family tree coach. In McDermott, you go with him, the Buffalo, and you're the quarterbacks coach there, and you get handed. That's Josh Allen. Josh Allen.

Right? Josh Allen. John Harboff, you know, Philly guy, Reed guy, calls you up and says, I'd like you to be my wide receiver coach. There was a little more scratch in my head. I'm talking about football lifer.

That is a freaking thing. To the point where you finally get a call at age 65 to say you. can be a head coach in the National Football League. That football life journey. Comes to a head.

You finally have reached the back end of the. Checkerboard, you get kinged! Boom. I feel a butt coming out. And on that day, you.

are essentially announced. Because what did not exist back in Austin P in 1978 now exists now. Twitter, it's all over the place. Everybody hears that you are a head coach in the NFL. Finally.

Finally, let's just say your name is David Culley.

Okay. Very specific. Because I just gave you his entire actual resume as being a football lifer. What a life, man. And he is now a head coach at age 65.

Unhappy, man. And somebody a third of his age comes out and says, I don't want to be here. I don't be here anymore. That's dumb. When this Individual, let's just say his name is.

Let me pull one out of there. Deshaun Watson.

Okay, that's specific. Says. He doesn't want to be there anymore, and you find out. That he's actually said that earlier in the week. Ladies and gentlemen, Your 2021 Houston Texans.

Let me just say this. I remember and I think about this all the time, man. I think about this all the time. Certainly around this time of year, because I get nostalgic. I get nostalgic.

I've been fortunate to do this for. for quite some time with the NFL network. I've been fortunate to do this, and every single time it's a Super Bowl. I think about NFL Networks First, 2003. We were born.

November of 2003. We were 11 weeks old when we went to our first Super Bowl in the calendar year of 2004. And we were in Houston. And it was dynamite. It was dynamite.

We got to see a sense of what it would be like to be in 90, 100 million. cable households because our network was in every hotel room and every media bus and it was on every television in the convention center where we had a setup right outside of Radio Row and people were stopping by and we got all the guests, literally the first Tuesday night. of our Super Bowl coverage. Bill Belichick was a guest. Like they we actually got him to leave his hotel and come down to the convention center and be an in-person guest because the NFL was like push pulling all the stops.

And the person who was helping pull all the stops too was Bob McNair. The owner of the Houston Texans. And not only did he help pull out all the stops for us and everybody else coming into that town, he got. Poppy Bush. Bush forty one to show up as a guest.

To sit down, I sat down with George Bush Sr. It was truly an honor. And I sat down with McNair in Tagliabu, and it was big. It was big. It was Texas-sized.

It was Houston. puffing its chest out and saying, we're back in the NFL. after the Oilers left for Tennessee. We're back. The Texans had just been a Couple of seasons in the books.

You know, they came back into being in 2002. If you build it, they will come. That's the Super Bowl. They built a new stadium, they got the Super Bowl. And the whole town was lit.

And they knew with the owner. And the town and the league football was back, and this organization was going to win.

Now, there's going to be a 30 for 30 on how it's all been screwed up. I don't quite. Frankly, get it. And I feel for David Cullen. Gets his opportunity.

and his franchise quarterback. He had to have known when he said yes to the job. How is he going to say no to this job? I mean, I just gave you his long-term resume. He's not going to say no.

No, I will not come. I will not take this job because we hear about some guy who's a former team chaplain who became a character coach, and now he's got some sort of crazy, whacked-out, undue influence on the new. owner because Bob McNair has passed away and Now it's a Cal McNair. own team with Nick Casaria, the new general manager, and Jack Easterby, who's this executive of whom I speak? And David Cully, who I've never met.

I've heard his voice a lot, and I've seen his coaching skills on display because he's been part of the. Combine. Coaching staffs that are on the field that are Coaching knows prospects hard, and you hear him talk to these guys like a leader of men. That's all I know. I've heard nothing but nice, great things about him, and this is a huge opportunity for him.

And don't take the fact that the Ravens. Receiving core was maybe one of the weak Parts of this excellent Ravens team and place that on him. He's helping the receivers buy into a program that Don't have them front and center like pretty much every single other offense in the NFL does have, right? But Deshaun Watson says he wants out. And that's how David Cully is welcomed to Houston, Texas.

And I don't know what's going on down there, man. We had John McClain on when it first came out that Deshaun Watson tweeted out something cryptic and then. deleted it the day that Nick Casario was hired as the General manager of the Houston Texans, even though he wasn't on the list of the headhunting firm that the team had. contracted with to find names. Even though he was a patriot.

guy and Apparently, Deshaun Watson was told that he could have some sort of say in the general manager, and they were kind of done with the whole Patriot way. Patriot South. Texans don't like being called that, even though they got Romeo Cornell from the Patriots tree, even though they got Bill O'Brien from the Patriots tree, even though they got Jack Easterby from the Patriots tree. And all the Patriots tree was just Baron Instead of fruit, a lot of misery. A lot of misery.

And now the quarterback wide receiver combination, young Turks in their 20s, in their prime. DeAndre Hopkins sent away for not even a first-round draft choice. And Deshaun Watson saying. One year after signing a long-term deal to stay with the organization, I want out. It's the owner.

And as long as he's there, I don't want to be anymore. How the hell did we get to this point?

Now then. It's not like the Texans are out of options. This is not the National Basketball Association. Just because Hardin did it, wound up in Brooklyn, doesn't mean Deshaun Watson's going to get to get to his Brooklyn Nets. They have him under contract.

If he doesn't want to show up, they will fine him. They will hold his salary back if they really want to stare him down. They have time. They could sit here and say we're not doing it. Our next press conference is to introduce David Culley, and poor David Culley will have to sit there and answer all the questions.

Have you spoken to Deshaun? Why haven't you spoken to Deshaun? Has he not returned your texts? He's he not returned your calls. What are you going to do if Deshaun's not here?

Who's your quarterback? Football Lifer David Cully, welcome to being a head coach in the National Football League. And this is what is going to happen. And by all accounts, our friend Mike Florio here on NBC Sports on Peacock has already written about this and tweeted about this. He doesn't believe that Watson is trying to rain on David Culley or the Texans parade.

This source is close to Watson have just received a lot of phone calls from a close. Clearly.

Well intentioned. Observers to say, hey. Is this going to change the equation? And the answer apparently came back, well, we already asked for a trade. All right, then.

So, does that mean the Texans have got to have a plan in place? They should.

Well, what's the plan? Are you going to run the new head coach out there on his introductory Zoom with this thing thoroughly unresolved? Are you going to make a statement first so you could at least take the heat off the guy who, as of last week, was just wondering how am I going to get Des Bryant and Hollywood Brown up for another season? With Lamar Jackson. Is this really now going to be tossed on his lap with ownership and general manager not getting out in front on this?

What is the next step? The long-term steps are they don't have to do anything. He's under contract. That's it. Don't show up to Sean, then we'll figure it out.

They have all the way pretty much till draft night. Get through all of this craziness with the Zoom, with David Cully, and take all the slings and arrows. Everybody wondering what the hell they're doing and going on right there? And then it can all work out in the end. You know?

Can all work out in the end? With somebody other than Deshaun Watson, because it sure seems like he's not changing his mind and he's got a no-trade clause.

So Where does Deshaun want to go? Because as much as the Texans can sit here and say, we have no intention of trading him, which is what John McClain of the Houston Chronicle said when he called him in the first minute that this was in the air. And he's just like, he has a better chance of being the next tight coach of the Houston Texans than Deshaun Watson being traded, said the longtime observer of Houston sports, who knows. A lot of what the organization is thinking because he's been around the block sometimes. And David Culley is about to be announced, not John McClain.

So he's not going to be the next head coach of the Houston Texans. Does that mean Deshaun Watson is staying put? I don't think there's any chance in this green earth Deshaun Watson puts on a Houston Texans uniform again. I know it's not the NBA, but guess what? It's 2021.

He wants out. He's got a no-trade clause. And you, Houston. Are over a barrel because the Patriot Way guy that you fired four weeks into last season. left you without a one and a two.

You got other stuff. Sure, you got three, you got four, you got fifty, you got all draft choices after that. But you don't have a one, you don't have a two, and you don't have a franchise quarterback who wants to be there, and you don't have your franchise wide receiver anymore. Which remarkably You didn't replenish your lost one with it. It's just insane the situation that the Texans find themselves in.

They're going to get a ton of offers. They're going to be people. I mean, honestly, Nick Casario's cell phone better be plugged into a Mophi because it's going to run out of juice. The amount of times he's going to get texts and calls, it better, I mean, he cannot walk around without a charge on that phone. Make sure you've got good service.

It's going to be white hot to the touch. Yeah. Name a team. We've done it. We'll do it again.

I'll do it again. Patriots will call. I mean, even if they don't have the capital, they got to call up, see if Deshaun, because if Deshaun wants to go there, that's the way you get him. Right.

So, give up ones for the next one. The Patriots will call, the Dolphins will call, the Jets will call. I The Steelers will call. A million percent the Steelers will call. I don't believe anybody else in the AAFC North will call.

The AFC South You could just lose the number. I don't care. The Colts have got a spot. There's no chance on this green earth the Texans are going to see Deshaun Watson in another uniform twice a year. Not right now.

I mean, if Watson wants to pull a fav. Sure. Yeah, but The uh The the Broncos will call? The Raiders will call. The Cowboys, just because why not?

Let's throw them in there. Washington football team's going to call? I don't know. Do the Eagles even have a good time. have an opportunity to call.

Do the giants call? Do the Vikings call? You can't. I mean, you're, I think they're out. The Bears will absolutely make a phone call, Lions will make a phone call.

Washington football team? I said that. The Carolina Panthers will make a phone call. The New Orleans Saints will make a call. The Saints, your third-betting favorite right now.

The Atlanta Falcons will absolutely make a phone call. That number four pick right there. Rich, it seems like you'd have better chances naming who won't make a call. Pretty much. The Rams will make a phone call.

I mean, just a phone call, just in case they say, I want to go. 49ers will make a phone call. For sure. These phone calls are coming from within the NFL house. They will all make a call.

And the question is: where do you want to go, Deshaun? Because the Texans eventually, well, we don't want to train a winter trainer. It is over. It's over. is over.

Who can give you the most? Draft choices and the most opportunity to maybe even get a prospect at quarterback that you like right here, right now to win here, right here, right now, and replenish right here and right now that Deshaun wants to go to. Deshaun, New York City is a wonderful place to live for children to grow up. Just look at me. I'm well adjusted.

You're wearing mauve. I am wearing mauve, and I'm telling you, though What's underneath Mauv bleeds green. Nice. And Nick Casario knows, he knows, he absolutely knows that the Jets have first-rounders coming out of their ears. And you want to throw Darnold in there, too?

Here you go. Two years of contractual control, kid who's just the same age as Deshaun Watson. Ton of ability, ton of upside. Let's go. But this is Jean want to go to New York.

Oh my god, are we off and running to just put out The whole Joker Jiff. And here We Go. And I feel for David Cully. I also feel for Stafford, okay?

Okay, because Matt. Your market just got a little cooler 'cause it's we we need to see how Deshaun Watson Yeah. All falls out there. Still a nice consolation gift if you only get Matt Stafford. And on this day, Derrick Henry joins us on behalf of FedEx.

For the Aaron Ground Player of the Year Award, I'll ask him, hey, You happy that you might not see Deshaun twice a year anymore? Michael Smith of Brother from Another will help us take us to his show. The brilliant, hilarious actor, producer, writer, Keegan Michael Key. He's got a new podcast, The History of Sketch Comedy. But when we come back, the one, the only.

There is no other. The mold was broken a long time ago. The great. Chris Berman, who I love dearly, is next. This episode brought to you by Progressive Insurance.

I don't know. Yeah. Restrictions apply. This is the Rich Eisen Show. We're back here on the Rich Eisen Show Radio Network.

The man deserves no introduction, or needs no introduction. He deserves an introduction, I should say. He needs no introduction, is what I'm saying. He's one of my favorite people. I'm fortunate to be able to call a friend.

And the folks who run the Pat Sommerall Legends for Charity dinner at the Super Bowl is no doubt thankful to call him a friend. He was the winner of the Pat Sommerall Award back in 2009 when the Super Bowl was in Tampa 12 years ago. And here he is on the Rich Eisen Show, our friend Chris Berman. How are you, bud? How are you, Chris?

Hey, Rich, happy Super Bowl, which we didn't know we'd be saying. I know. Number one, number two. Exactly. Were those old things that you played for me with A on A Track?

Was that cassette? No, we got that's that was from your appearance with us at the Super Bowl in Houston. I know. Yeah. I'm having fun.

Or was it on three-quarter-inch tape? I'm going back. By the way, three-quarter-inch tape. Not that I've stayed up with all of them, but that's another story. Three-quarter-inch tape is how I got my job at ESPN, Chris.

That's what I said. That's what Al Jaffe saw back in 1996, my resume reel on three-quarter-inch tape. That's how I got my start. With that. And when I first did my little bit in local TV, which is not where you need this interview to go, actually, we're still shooting some in film, late 70s.

Film. There you go. And now here we are, Super Bowl 55. I don't know that we won an Oscar, but we shot it, right? That's right.

But now here we are, Super Bowl 55. Oh man, the wagons were almost completely circled, Chris. I mean, almost. What a run for the Bills this year. You know what I mean?

Yeah, I mean, and you saw it. Look, I mean, you live it every day, you know, in a FL Network. The team is built beautifully. Brandon Bean, Sean McDermott, et cetera. The quarterback is Josh Allen.

We've seen the material rise But the team around him is really built to last, last in you know, in this this day and age, you know, a few years. hopefully Josh 10 12 years And he's embraced the city and they've embraced him and that team and it was despite that nobody or very few people could go to the games other than the playoffs, it was nobody, the airport scenes and this Buffalo, other than Green Bay, is the smallest city in the NFL. You didn't even have to like the Bills, you had to respect the bills. what this was, especially after so long a drought, it was was great and it was no fluke. You know, and you are for many subject matters for Super Bowl 55 or football in general, the perfect person to have on as a guest to ask about.

And, you know, you were just breaking. Getting ready for prime time when Montana was completing his Montana greatness. And I'm sure many people were definitely saying at the time what we were hearing about Brady that we'll never see another Montana. And then here comes along Brady doubling him up in number of championship game appearances, and now more than doubling him up in terms of playoff wins and Super Bowl wins. Potentially, he's on that, but he's doubled him up in terms of Super Bowl appearances more than so.

So, what do you think of when you hear that there'll never be another Brady, especially when there's Mahomes across the way from him? Chris. Well, yeah, no, it it's fun to even think about it, right, Rich? Because I mean, here is the past and the present greatness and the present and we're pretty sure future greatness converging. Um The thing about Tom is, and I don't have to tell you, I mean, this is two complete decades, right?

Complete. And actually, if you want to get technical, this is the third decade, and this isn't one of those. Baseball, I came up in 59 and I retired in 80, and it's four decades. You know, this is we're into decade number three. He's no mini minosa, right?

We might not see another one because. This is 20 years of playing in the Super Bowl. It's hard to believe, isn't it? It is truly amazing. As I was saying, he's no mini Minoso, right?

I mean, he's.

Well, I know there is just an amazing run that he's on right now. And then there's Mahomes, who really is. I know John Walsh hated the on pace conversation, but he's truly started off with the on pace right now, Chris. And I can't wait to watch the two of them play. How do you think the the Super Bowl plays out?

When it comes to that. You know what, Rich, you brought up something. It's a story I don't tell very often because it's now ancient history and it was kind of just me and Tom.

So to your point of the greatness You know, Tom snuck that 0-1 Super Bowl past customs, and the Patriots did, you know, 9-11, et cetera, two-touchdown underdog to the greater show on turf, the Rams, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. And I remember having a conversation and interview with him at the Pro Bowl, which was then the week after in Hawaii. which is a nice thought already. And I said and and I s I told him, Yeah, you snuck one through customs and I said, you know, if if winning is as important to you as I think it is, You got one when no one was looking. He goes, No, look, that's And our conversation went all about winning.

And of course, then he won three and four years.

So if Patrick Mahomes can win another one here, There's no guarantee, as you know, Dan Marino never made it back, and he played against Montana, which was a very similar. Although Montana didn't have two decades of greatness, right? But that was, as you look back, geez, Montana against Marino at Stanford, that was unbelievable. And Dan never got back.

So who knows? But Winning And everything you hear about Patrick, and I heard a lot because of Andy Reid, and before he even started, I knew this. Leadership, the way he comports himself, et cetera. He's all about winning. None of that is false.

And he could get to at what, 24, 25, right? And What was Tom when he got his third? 25, 26?

So the point is, there is a correlation. If it happens that way, but Tom Brady may have a lot to say about it. I just find it delicious, and then I'll be quiet. No, that the next. you know, it it it's the Chiefs it and it's you know, Tom did it with the Patriots, but What's standing in the way of a back-to-back Super Bowl run by these Chiefs who are fast and just fun to watch on offense, et cetera, et cetera.

Um is the last guy to quarterback the team It's not like he's defending the 72 Dolphins undefeated streak, you know? But. He's the one that did it the last time. Are we gonna have another member of the club?

Well, you better talk to The most recent gatekeeper. I find that a delicious storyline going into the super. Bowling tamper, yeah. Brady's the bouncer at the door, right? I mean, checking IDs.

Wait a minute. You can check your pockets? It's checking IDs at the door, you know, and making sure that they're let allowed in the club. And it is something, again, I love that you bring up. Marino and Montana, especially because You know, Montana playing in Stanford was as close as we've ever seen to somebody playing at his home stadium, and now we're actually seeing it, right?

I mean, like, this is actually happening, and Brady is the Montana role here. But, you know, Marino, despite being with Shula, right? When Marino's with Shula, you're like, they're definitely going to get back. I just have a feeling, though, that this Chiefs team is poised to go on a run similar to Brady and Belichick's Patriots. You really get that feeling, the sense just of who Mahomes is, and Reed is in his early 60s.

He's not going anywhere. And Tyreek Hill and Kelsey are not the version of like David Patton and, you know, uh-oh, Mono Wui or whatever. You know, I'm trying to come up with, I just botched his name, I'm sure, but you know what I'm saying? Like, they're even better positioned potentially. than the Brady and Belichick teams were, in a way.

You know? Well, on offense, I mean those teams were outstanding on defense. 01, especially 03, 04. And 07, they had a lot of those veterans still. They weren't quite the same, but they had Randy Moss, West Welkers.

So that offensively was the one. Of course, they went 18 and Point nine and oh, right. That would be offensively the only team you could even equate to this Chiefs team, and they didn't stay together really i i i in randy moss sense so Yeah, I mean and and and by the way, I'm not putting them in the same class, but Did you see how fast Nicole Hartman is? Yeah. Did you see, and Ilaire is still coming back from injury?

Look, we. Every year, Rich, you and I do the exercise, and I'm not saying, oh, the Chiefs won't make the playoffs next year, and neither will the Bug, whatever, but. You know, we always wonder, well, how will these teams not be successful for a while? And there are curveballs, we don't know, but. To your point, offensively, all you need to see was the other day with Sean McDermott, who was always so honest, and I've known him since he worked with Andy.

Um They were just too fast for us.

Now that was a interesting But if you watched it, that's what it was. You don't need to XO it. I mean, you could.

So they're so fast And They're so creative and Andy, I will say this He has a whiteboard in his office up on up on the wall. And Sunday there, Monday morning, when he goes back in, he erases it completely. And it's y Partly it's It's not this little thing. He draws up plays every week from scratch. And Maybe 19 out of 21 that's up there.

Nah, we're not using that. And one or two get into the game plan. In other words, that's the fun part. with the team. Like in the Super Bowl last year, they did that twist a roof from the Rose Bowl in the late forties because it was fun.

This is a Super Bowl. You know, this isn't Thursday practice in September. to keep them interested.

So yes, to your point, offensively, I I mean, could they lose this game? Sure. But they are set up if things stay the same, you know, the train moving down the track for quite a while. Chris Berman here on The Rich Eisen Show. Let's spend the last couple minutes trying to.

Get as many folks interested in donating to Legends for Charity dinner presenting the Pat Sommerall Award, which you won in 2009. I was fortunate enough to be given that honor. Actually, we're at that Super Bowl where you were on with us in Houston. Cheryl D. Leonardis, who puts this dinner on every single year, is an angel.

For doing her work on behalf of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. And this year, you know, we got to make sure everybody's donating as much as possible because it's virtual, right? The dinner's going to be virtual this year. Chris in Tampa?

Yeah, and they'll, Aaron, who was Aaron Andrews' hometown, Tampa girl, dad, TV forever, there would have been perfect.

So you received it, I received it, look. All you need to know, and there's a ton of great charities, and Cheryl is an angel. She is. More than that. Children with cancer, do I really need to say anything else?

I mean, you really you don't Just look at some pictures in this. It's not the only There's tons of chair, but St. Jude, the work they do with the families, not to mention. You know. children with cancer and there's no better place to to go in that situation if you're Isn't that unbelievably unfortunate?

And anyone who's a parent, you don't have to be a parent. children with cancer. Say no more. And when I received that, it's one of still the highlights. 'Cause A, it's Pat Somerall and I'm sure you cherish it with his name on it because of our business.

Football business. I mean, come on. Again, Pat Sommerall say no more. By the way, we're already talking more than Pat did. And number two, he and I share the same birthday, May 10th, which so we had met many years before, and that was nice.

And and the work that he and his wife, the late Pat Somreaw, and his wife Cherry do with St. Jude to meet again. Children with cancer and they go forward. And Cherry was there last year, and Jim Kelly won the award in Miami, where he played college football. That's right.

And where his Bills beat the Dolphins a ton of times. And I was honored to be on the stage with her.

So, again. Think about it, it'd be children with cancer. If you can help.

So that's a wonderful question. Legendsforcharity.com is how people can go to that website and donate as much as possible. And as you pointed out, Aaron Andrews is receiving the Pat Summerlin Award this year. And it is one of the highest honors anybody can receive, certainly in our business of talking the NFL, which we're so blessed to do. Before I let you go, a member of our team was not on air.

He's been behind the scenes for quite a bit, but he's in charge of our social media accounts. His name is TJ Jefferson. Would you bestow him with the honor of having a Berman nickname? He does not have one. As you know, I'm Rich Betty Davis, Eisen, Rich Kaleidoscope, Eisen.

My colleague across the way, Chris Brockman, was Chris Crocodile Brockman? Is that what he bestowed? Or Brockman Turner Overdrive? There was that one. Yeah, that would be more my college music.

Yep.

Okay, so would you mind TJ, so you want to say hello to Chris right there? No, we met Chris at Ed Reed's Hall of Fame party last year.

Okay, that's right. And marked out a little bit. I'm not ashamed to say it marked out a little bit.

Okay, so would you mind giving TJ Jefferson a Berman nickname, Chris? Would you mind doing that?

Well, let's see.

So on a 10-second, which most of them is what I think about, and then if they're not there, I move along, but on the spot, and then I come back to it the next day. Don't think I throw the name away. No, okay, good. And, you know, old milk or something. Uh, you know, you could go you're presidential, but I mean, that would be a a a layup.

Dating myself a little bit, moving on up, Jefferson.

Okay. I like that. I mean Lord Jefferson, moving on up. But then again, that's dating us with the TV show. It's okay.

I mean, anyone that's anyone that's not. you know, Generation Z or maybe Y gets it, right? But oh So is that all right? Give me a little more time, I might get better. No, no, that's moving on up, ain't bad.

I think that was one that you even said that you would hope you were hoping. It's appropriate because since you put me on this show, I've been moving on up. Very good. Makes sense. Don't think these names have just prolapsed.

There's a lot to them. I appreciate it, Chris. Chris, sometimes dating yourself with pop culture reference is no big deal whatsoever at all. That's what TJ was hoping for. And, you know, very.

Very rarely when I have a guest calling to the show, do I not have to ask if he's calling on a landline? I could walk around my home in Connecticut and ten feet from where I'm sitting, I have a perfect connection. But in the middle of my house, and it's not a mansion, so don't get it wrong. Like we would have the signal would have gone out in three minutes. Don't ask me why.

there's a lot to be said for a landline. You know what the downside is of it, Rich? everyone they assume you're well, of course, this year it's different, you're old, which I'm sixty five, so I guess I am, but you know. And so therefore, the The calls start at 9.30 and this summit noon hour and the summit dinner hour, meaning Oh, it's a landline. They're old.

They'll answer because that's what we do, and we're going to try to sell them something, etc. No, I have the downside of it. Chris, Susie and I will always have a landline that will, we will always have one. And when I say to somebody, when you're calling in, please don't call on a cell call on a landline, they say I don't have one. I'm like, what the hell?

I mean, good Lord. I don't, honestly, I will always have one. You and I will always have that, and we'll have much more than that. And I cherish that, Chris. I appreciate that.

Thank you for the call today. I just want to tell you this. I'm just so impressed. I knew you when, you and Stu doing the show. I told you that was, I really enjoyed your sports centers.

I know I'm dating myself here, and you've gone on to have two, three. Four different careers. I'm still working on my first one, so you're way ahead of me. I'm going to take that and run with that to the bank. Chris, do you have a Super Bowl 50 prediction?

Do you have one right now? A little early.

Okay. But look. Uh not that I was alone, but then again, I picked him last year too. I mean, you know, I picked the Patriots a million times with Tom Wright, and he's a friend, etc. Uh and I the Tampa was a You know, one of my early...

Little jobs. I'm talking Doug Williams, Leroy Selman, let alone the team that won the Super Bowl with Derek Brooks and Lynchy and Sapp and And and uh you know, it was Tony's team and then Coach Gruden won with it. Uh always a soft spot and loved the area, et cetera. And of course the creamsicles, right? Like you can't.

I would love them to come out on the creamsicles. That might change my tool. Because you think we didn't tell anyone. I know we're going to get fined. It's 2020, you know, 2020 season.

We're doing the creamsicles, darn it. Wouldn't that be a state and we do what we want? That's right. All right, that would change it. But At the moment I certainly would I just think the Chiefs You know, he can't overanalyze.

It was Tapa's last loss. I don't want to over-analyze it.

Well, that means he'll beat him again. Um, because that didn't work with the saints, right?

So But I would think that I picked them like a lot of people before this year, and I picked them last year.

So, how could I get off that now? And anybody would understand that. But if Tom Brady wins and the Bucs win with that better-than-you-think defense, um Uh I wouldn't be shocked at all. They have a ton of weapons and offenses, you know, but the Chiefs Chiefs' defense is better than you think. You just ask the Bills.

They were confused. They sure were. And they Speed will still It will still matter. And they have that. Yeah.

I I I just The Chiefs played sixty minutes of Chief football for the first time in like two months, right, Rich?

So I if they do that again, they're going to be tough to beat. I really think so. All right, so we'll put Chris Berman down for Chiefs win unless The golden sombrero creamsicles uniforms come out, then we're off the board. Then we got to figure something else. If creamsicles come out, then call me on my landlock.

I'll be myself. All right. Chris, you're the man. Send up a carrier pigeon. I'll get it.

We'll do that. And yeah, text me if TJ moving on up Jefferson gets an upgrade if you consider it such. We consider this delivered as far as we're concerned. But you just let us know. I never know what to expect when I'm on the air with you, but I enjoy every one of them.

Me too. Right back at you, Chris. Thanks again. We'll chat soon. Best of the Thank you.

844-204 Rich is the number to dial right here on the show. I mean, Chris Berman Point out because you won't be we we will be talking quite a bit about this quarterback matchup.

Next week. Tomorrow's show, I will give you my top 10 storylines for the week. Oh, nice. I'll front-load it. You've been waiting all in.

Well, I'll do that tomorrow. Which means during my poker game tonight, I'll come up with the list and email everybody at home to. you know, come up with the uh Visual support for our peacocks. Yeah, of course.

So at any rate, um. We'll be talking all next week about the quarterback matchup. You'll hear L Way Favre and stuff like that. I think Merino and Montana is an excellent one. For many reasons.

Brady was the guy who grew up. lionizing Montana hoped to be a 49er quarterback, right? and is now in the role of Montana. And Marino is the young buck like Mahomes who made the Super Bowl really early. And everybody thought that he'd make it forever.

And he never made it back. That's the one difference that will be here because Mahomes has already made it back. and we'll keep making it back.

Okay. He also, as we know, won last year. But I just kind of like this construct, especially since. That game was played in the home of Stanford. Which is nuts?

That yeah, they used to play they used to play Super Bowl in college stadiums that just 'cause they were big. And that was right around the corner from where the Niners played. And that was considered a home Super Bowl for the 49ers, but we've never seen one in the actual home stadium. And now we have, as Brady is playing that role, of course. There's a lot of neat stuff about that.

Let's take this phone call. Rocky in Iowa, Adam, our call screener, saying that Rocky called in before the show and he's got an agenda. What's up, Rocky? Hey guys, good to hear from you. Thank you for having me.

All right, Raku. What's your agenda, Raku? What are you on?

Well, I remember back when I don't know if you remember, I did the Taysome Hill Um, higher register, and you call me the rich hyping clone, and that made my year.

Okay, and okay, I wanted to do a Super Bowl higher register, but I'm not going to have time tomorrow.

So, I was wondering if I could get one in real quick. We can always front-load a higher register. Normally, we do it on a Friday. Just to talk my idea, Rocky, if you Rocky, if you're not available Friday, that's understandable.

So, go for it. What do you have for us?

Okay, yeah, this is a Super Bowl one, and it's not Scotty Miller running faster than Tyree.

Okay. Here we go. Uh with all the storylines surrounding Tom Brady and his Kent Super Bowl You have Andy Reid and Mahomes going back to back, and the Bucs at home. There's one storyline people are forgetting. Mike Evans is in his seventh annual season.

and became the only player ever To start his career with seven straight 1,000-yard season. That's a fact. Caffy. Randy Moss. At the age of 27, he's only one of six players ever to have 8,000 yards and 60 touchdowns.

Now it's the Super Bowl on the line. And with a win. Maybe. Mike and it's Demands himself as a hole of favor? Mm.

That is lucky in Iowa.

Okay, so let me understand this. Let me understand this. You called in a day early with a higher register, we have to wait 10 years at least to figure out if it's true. Is that what just happened? Is that what just happened?

He went to stake his claim, Rich.

Well, cements. As a Hall of Famer. Yeah, and the only reason, because I believe he will be a Hall of Famer if he keeps, you know, keeps going. But one of those six players. uh is Sterling Sharp.

And He is not a Hall of Famer. He only played seven years. He had 8,000 yards, 60 touchdowns, but he Know the same could happen for Evans if his career unexpectedly goes downhill.

So, okay. you know, you never know. But I think with the Superbowl win and the numbers he's put up, I I think he's on pace. Rocky, I appreciate your. By the way, that was higher register at the end.

He kind of went higher register, but I think he's on pace. You know, very good. Rocky in Iowa. There you go. There you go.

Well done. Appreciate your commitment. Appreciate your commitment. Thank you, guys. You bet.

Thank you for the call. See, Feller's got a much lighter touch when they kind of del Tufo. Del Tufo's got a heavy hand. Rocky and Iowa would have been out a long time. Like, Rocky got two thank yous in there.

It was a Jewish goodbye. And then it was almost a Jewish goodbye. Can someone from Iowa give you a Jewish goodbye? I don't know. I'm sure at least Rocky, that's for sure.

You know what I mean? Rocky Jews, Rich. I don't know any. No, I know Balboa, and he was definitely. I don't know of any Jews that would just swig an egg yolk.

Oh, I know one. Goldberg, the wrestler. Oh, okay. There you go. I don't know.

If you're going to punch meat, you got to make sure at least it's kosher. All right, we'll take a break. Keegan Michael Key is coming up in hour number two right here on our radio show. We're back on Peacock Doe in a second. Oh.
