This is the Rich Eisen Show. I like this type of party. And this is your super week. I'm coming for you. Covering the biggest game with the biggest guest.
Earlier on the show. Three-time Super Bowl champion Willie McGuinness. NFL network analyst Steve Smith Sr. Co-host of Good Morning Football Kyle Brandt. Coming up.
2020 Heisman Trophy winner Devontae Smith. Plus two-time Pro Bowler Michael Griffith. And now, it's... Way to smooth it in there. Way to smooth that.
Putt in there, TJ Jefferson, our social media grand maester, starting off this hour with a main putt on our Rich Eisen show putting surface that we've had here for years. Chris Brockman, my colleague across the aisle, is going to have a news update in this hour. What do you got up there? Do you want to tease it? What do you got up there?
Because we've got a guest coming up and Devontae Smith, Heisman Trophy winner. And then we've got Michael Griffin, two-time Pro Bowler in this league, former Titan Safety.
Now he's with Food Network's Cupcake Guys Training Camp. The guys, the Cupcake Guys, are uh are are Griffin and uh Brian Arakpo. And this is crazy. I mean, I've never heard this before, truly, never heard this before, but it's produced by Michael Strahan. Does he have a business that produces shows?
Good question. Good question. I don't know if Strahan's just getting into that business or something. I don't know. All right, so what what do you what do you have?
Tease it. Andrew Luck is trending. I'm not even going to look why. I'm just going to wait for your news update.
So, just keep saying, Andrew Luck is trending. Andrew Luck is trending. All right. What else you got over there? Anything?
Big video game announcement. Big video game announcement. Yeah. I think I know what that is. Yeah.
Anything else over there? Big Ben said something interesting yesterday. Did anybody get kicked at any, you know? All-time goat kick some get somebody kicked out of a game. No, nothing happened.
Sean Payton said something kind of interesting. Ah, that was on Good Morning Football. We had Kyle Brandt on in hour number two. Steve Smith Sr. told a story that I don't believe is ever told publicly.
We should send that one down to the folks down in Houston because it involves their new coach, David Cully. And Jared Goff has spoken. Very good. All of that coming up. Willie McGinnis has already been on the show.
Our YouTube page is where everything resides. If you miss anything on NBC Sports Audio Sirius XM Channel 211 or this Rich Eisen Show radio affiliate, or you're watching us on NBC Sports on Peacock on the free Peacock app every day from 12 to 3 Eastern. Is our next guest on the phone line, Christopher? Yes, he is. Here he is, the man of the hour, certainly on the campus at the University of Alabama.
And then we cannot wait to see what happens next for Devontae Smith. Who spent Senior Bowl Week in Alabama, which a lot of people don't usually do when they have won the Heisman Trophy and pretty much every other award that he won this past year. On behalf of AutoTrader, here is Devontae Smith. How are you, sir? I'm good.
How about you? I'm fine.
So how do you rate your year? Collegiately. I feel like it was a good year. Like, I left some things out there, but Overall, it was a good year. What'd you leave out there?
You won every award. What did you leave out there? I left I left some money on the table. What do you mean? What are you talking about?
I love some touchdowns out there. That's money on the table. Is that what you're saying? Yeah, most definitely. Because also, I don't know.
Are you where you set eight of nine receiving records? There was only one thing left on the table. Do you know which. Alabama receiving record you did not set. Do you know which one that is?
Nah, what that was. It was the one it was uh re receptions in a season. Amari Cooper got you by seven. That's what he got. I left some on Tape.
I guess that's all I could find. That's all literally I could find like what touchdowns did you leave on the table? Uh I love I know one for sure. I left one against Mississippi State out there.
Well, speaking on behalf as a Michigan Wolverine, how the hell did you leave that out there? Come on. Just ha it just happened. What do you mean? Please, I love this type of stuff because it just also goes to speak to your level of commitment and your soon-to-be, as you will prove professionalism.
Walk me through that touchdown you left on the table. Devontae. Yeah. Okay.
So let's talk about you at the next level. What are people going to get if they draft you in the NFL? Um, they want to come in the building, be the hardest worker on the team and just make the guy across from me better and just overall just be a great teammate and try to be a great leader. And so um what are you hearing about um You. From NFL evaluators.
What are you hearing right now? Um Just everything that how I carry myself and things like that, just keep being who I am and just keep being me.
Okay, and being you is gonna be what? What are you gonna weigh when you uh step foot in a National Football League building? What are you going to weigh for that? I don't know. Come on.
What's your plan? I mean, because you're going to hear that, right? I mean, people are going to be like, well, you know, what are you? Buck 74? Is that what you are right now if you stepped on a scale?
Right now. Might be a minute since I weighed myself.
Okay, very good.
Well, this is coming. I mean, my gosh, your hand size, everything, the whole schmear. You're aware of what's coming, right, for you? Yes, sir. Just let me know.
I don't know if you know I'm a runner myself, Devontae. Are you aware of this? No. All right then. Welcome to the NFL.
is basically, you know, I've been the host of NFL Network for 18 years now. And I run in my suit at the NFL Scouting Combine every year. It's the logo of my show on this mug that I have right here in front of me. Um and I've broken six seconds only three times. in fifteen, sixteen years.
So Don't laugh with him.
Well, he's laughing, so I thought it was okay. It's okay for you to laugh. It's okay. It's all right. I've had, you know, what what how fast can you run?
You're 40. What are you going to run your 40 in? Uh, I give a high four three, low four, four. Low four four.
Okay.
Have you heard from Desmond Howard, the last Heisman Trophy winner to be a wide receiver? Have you heard from him? Yep. Yes, sir. I talked to him about the time.
What was that conversation about? Um, him just being excited for me and just Congratulate me on everything and then just us just talking football. And so, what do you talk about when you talk football? Like, literally, like, what goes? I'd love to get in your football mind.
Devontae Smith.
Okay.
And how you get how you get open in terms of what, just get off the line, knowing what the defender's gonna do? Walk me through that. What I've seen from the defender and just how I p how I approached them, beating him and getting open. Who is your idol growing up? Who would you say, I want to be like this guy in the NFL?
Who would that be? For you. Um, Devontae Adams and Keeman Allen. Why is that? Just their releases, everything that they do in their routes, the small details in everything that they do.
Have you spoken to them? Have you ever been connected with them? No, sir. All right. Let's go.
We're going to get to work on that. I think you're going to find a lot of world and a lot of doors opened up for you. How has your life changed in the last calendar year? Uh it's really been the same. Nothing nothing really too crazy.
Just going about everything the same way.
Okay, so who'd ground you? Who's uh who's on Team Smith here? Who's who's with you? Who's your team? Me, my mentor.
Um, pops. Your mentor is your father, is what you're saying, or you have a different one other than your pops? No, sir, he's just my mentor, just been with me all my life, taking me to camps and things like that. What's his name? Vince and Sanders.
Okay.
So what's your rel y and he's been taking you to camps and he was he the one who who let uh Nick Sabin through a front door? Did Nick personally walk into your house to recruit you? Yes, sir. All right. What was that day like for you?
It was exciting just sitting down talking to him and just seeing what. How he approached things and his mindset of things.
So it it definitely opened my eyes and in some situations and it just made me made my decision a whole lot easier. How has he affected your life? Nick Saban. He affected it a lot just with how he carried himself, how he approached things, and just the mindset. Of the business mindset that he has and how everything has business with him.
Okay.
What's the most you've ever pissed him off, Pavante? Um I don't think I really did nothing too bad, for real. Really? I'll probably say. Um Something I did during a game or something like that.
He probably got mad at him, probably got on about. It wasn't that too crazy. Look at you because I've asked everybody, literally any Alabama player in the last several years coming on this show this question, and each one of them. has had the exact moment where they knew That they did something to have Coach volcanically erupt, including Tua. Tua had one.
Tua had one even.
So you haven't had one of those moments where you go, uh-oh. At all. Yeah, it was p it was during during the game. I mean, it's quite a time, quite a few times in a game. I did something wrong and you got on me.
What'd you do? Did he come after you dropped that one against Michigan State that you referred to earlier? Did he say something or no? No, he ain't say nothing then, but I'll probably say a mid-block or something like that he got on me about.
Okay.
So what's going on with AutoTrader? What are you doing on behalf of AutoTrader, Devontae? Auto trade is the go-to resource when car shopping, and with everything going on. Um with me being busy with training and rehabbing. They just make me finding the car easier.
And that's probably going to be my first big purchase.
So, partnering with them makes it a whole lot less stressful on me. And I'm excited.
Okay.
What are you looking at? What are you checking out? What are you thinking about right now? Uh probably a G wagon. A G wagon.
That's somebody who's thinking about signing bonus right now. How did you choose the jacket for the Heisman? I loved it. I thought that was next level. Walk me through your jacket choice for Heisman.
Well me and my mentor, we always um sit down and Talk about like the Sioux of the week and things like that.
So when that time came, we just came up with something. We, um, kind of visioned it and It just kinda happened and that's what we wanted to go with and it happens. Crimson velvet just happened is what you're saying. That just happened. Yeah, if that's what you wanna call it.
What was it? Is that not what? That's what I thought to myself: that's crimson tide color velvet to me. No, that's not what it was. What was what's the official what's the official name for what you wore?
Huh is been nice. I want to say it was kinda like a dark brown root beerish color.
Okay.
All right. Maybe I need to adjust my television set. All right. Maybe that's what I got to do. I thought it was sharp.
It looked phenomenal. And I think you're going to be looking back on these photographs going, oh, yes, that's what you're going to be saying. Where is the Heisman right now? Where is the Heisman? It's um in Suscaloos.
What do you mean? What, in your, in your apartment, or is it in? Nah, it's at the complex. Yeah, they are taking care of it for me right now.
Okay, so somebody's taking where is it right now? at the complex at the facility. That's yours, though, isn't it? Yeah, I just kept it there until I found out where I'm gonna be at.
Okay.
So I ain't gotta just be carrying it around, worrying about it.
So you just like say, Coach, you take care of it do you say is that what you say, coach, you take care of this? Or how did that happen? Yeah, I say ya y'all can just hold it until I figure out what I'm gonna do. Yeah. I look forward to chatting with you next, Devontae, when you're going through everything.
Can I give you a couple cents of advice, if you don't mind?
Okay.
You're going to hear a lot of crap. You're going to hear a lot of garbage about what you can't do or how tall you are, and you're not tall enough, or you're not strong enough, and you're not built enough, and you don't weigh enough. You're going to hear a ton of that. Don't listen to a single one of those things. And if you do somehow, some way draft uh uh have a draft night where you last uh longer on the board than you um Thought you should.
The team that gets you is going to get somebody who makes a tremendous amount of plays and has a chip on his shoulder, and you just remember all the teams that passed on you. And you just circle those dates on the calendar and you just go be you. How does that sound? Yes, sir. Okay, and good luck to you.
I really enjoyed watching you play this year. It really was dynamite. Congratulations on that and for your future. Thank you. Right here on The Rich Eisen Show.
I love talking to the next generation. Just love it. Is he he's 20? Is he 20 years old? Is that how old he is?
Oh, man. I guess I should know the age of the person I'm interviewing. Certainly not ask that question after it's all over, but Four years at Alabama. My gosh. He's 22, actually, really.
There you go.
Okay.
Here we go. Here we go. Here's when we come back. Chris Brockman's News Update Is it true? Is there a rumor?
that you might have help With this news update, in regards. to the weather. Is that true? There is some news about the weather in South Florida, and I am going to need Central Florida. Central Florida.
Central Florida. Be careful. Central, yeah. Careful. That's like saying that Buffalo is in upstate New York.
I got to be careful. You're true. My dad lives there, so it's like Central Florida. And I am going to need some assistance. That's correct.
I'm in. True.
Okay.
Oh my, it makes the dream work. The exact opposite. I mean. Because I hadn't had didn't have much sleep last night. At all.
Oh no. Two of the three got up last night. Oh no. Yep. Daughter had Cooper thought there was a Bug in his bed.
Oh, come down. In the bed. In the bed. I would have slept on the bed. I think it was Dylan the dog brushed him with her tail.
Woke him up, and he had a bug on the brain because his sister had spotted apparently. In Susie's car, a spider the size of, as Susie said, a thumbnail. Oh, I've had I would never get in the car again. Dude, it's a thumbnail is like, it's a small little, it's just, it's, it's a garden variety spider. Sell the car.
But telling him, okay, we, each one of us. Susie had one run in there to basically shine a light on everything, and he shares a room with his brother, so we got to make sure Xander doesn't wake up. Right. And uh-uh. And then it was two more times where I came back in and.
And then Taylor on top, top rope, half hour after that, just as we're thinking about, we can go back to sleep. Thank you. So I'm. All right, the fact that I'm Actually, doing this show. Two and a half hours in almost.
Caffeine. I mean, makes the dream work. If you will. 844-204-Rich number Dow here on the Rich Eisen Show. Don't miss this.
So, you know, we love talking movies around here. You know, we love talking comedy around here. We also love talking about classics around here.
So, you know what I'm all about. That said. All of that said. You know how I must have felt when I was sitting in the movie theater like I was the other day watching the previews, and up came a preview. for the naked gun.
with Liam Neeson as Frank Greben, Junior. That Preview had me at hello. I loved police squad back in the day. I loved the naked gun back in the day. And here comes the naked gun once again with yes, Liam Neeson as Frank Drebbin Jr.
Come on now, son of the celebrated police squad, Lieutenant Frank Drebbin from the original movie, Paul Walter Hauser's in this movie, also Pamela Anderson. Guess who also makes an appearance? Harm takes.
Okay, let's go to the phone lines. Adam from Philadelphia, you are on the Rich Eisen Show, Adam. Hey, Rich. Listen, I've been a huge baseball fan my whole life, but I'm having a hard time watching the game these days. All the strikeouts and all the shit.
Once time travel becomes a basic mode of transportation, I'm definitely transporting back to the eighth inning of Game 7 in the 2003 ALCS, just so I can tell Grady Whittle to take Pedro out of the game. Wait a minute. If I do that, then Willow won't get fired, and Tito Francota won't get hired and guide the Sox for the first championship the next season. Whew, scratch that. Man, forget it.
That was way too close to actually happening. There's How do I pretend that I'm actually paying attention to what Rich is saying right now?
Okay, I'll nod my head a few times, crinkle my brow, and move some levers on the console. That always works. over the shift. And then on top of it all. And, you know, I don't want to hear people say to me that.
There's only five seconds left in the clock. Jalen Brown inbounds to Tatum. Tatum gets double-teamed. He throws it to Chris Brockman. Brockman heaves it from half court.
It's good. Good, unbelievable. What a shot by Brockman. Danny Ages pulled another rabbit out of his hat with the acquisition of this Brockman kid. Day.
Man, I'm living a charm life. I get to come in here every day, mix this great show, and then go off to Big Fox and get to work on some of the biggest events in sports. How can I show my appreciation to all these great people? Hey, what's Doug the Pug up to? Warm day.
Emmanuel, of course. I've watched every episode of you on Entourage. Oh, thank you. Yeah, that's very flattering. It's not the first time someone said they've gotten lost in my eyes, but thank God my girlfriend Sarah's not a mind reader.
Or is she? Uh, hey, how about those Red Sox, huh? Warm. Dang. Strikeouts.
Shift. Strikeout. Defense shifts. But now you've got one. Our good buddy Jeff in Detroit is back here on the Rich Hodson Show.
How you been, Jeff? They say every bit of comedy has a germ of truth in it. Don't they? 100% true. Oh, yeah, that was not enough.
By the way, what's with your national treasure glasses you got on? Yeah. Like, are you reading it back to the Declaration of Independence to see if there's put it down? Put my Dwayne Wayne a different world glasses. Oh, okay.
Shout out to Goodeen Hardy. By the way, they're fake. Like, he wears contacts. Yeah, yeah. Thanks.
Spoiler alert.
Okay.
Michael Irvin did use it. But you wear glasses just for show. Like, that's so phony. And everybody's not going to be able to do it. If we weren't on the radio, I would say something to him that I can't say on the radio.
We're not on the radio, but he needs to be careful. Yeah, you know, be careful. Back here on the Rich Eisen Show. Hey, everybody. Michael Griffin's going to be joining us.
He and Brian Arakpo have got a show on Saturday afternoon on Food Network, a baking competition in Austin, Texas, to help. Aspiring entrepreneurs to achieve their baking dreams, The Last Baker Standing wins a $10,000 seed investment in their business on the Cupcake Guys Training Camp Show. I mean. So I want to host that. Yeah.
So that's coming up on Saturday. I'm going to be a judge. You know what? Starts today. Tomorrow, by the way, the Phoenix Open week, everybody.
Yeah, Waste Management Phoenix Open Thursday through Sunday on the Golf Channel and NBC. One of the most exciting tournaments in all of golf. It is the Waste Management Phoenix Open, one of the top tournaments. Fields uh In golf, always shows up for this tournament. That always seems to be Super Bowl weekend.
Again, coverage starts on Golf Channel Thursday and culminates on Sunday on N. BC. Mike's already got his weather report thing going. I triggered that topic. Hey, one thing I do want to say before your news update, Chris.
Some What would you s I I guess troubling news, depressing news? Um Marty Schottenheimer is in hospice. Oh, no. His family just announced. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014, the great Chiefs and, of course, Brown's coach.
and Chargers coaches a lot of people all across the country in the Midwest, in the Upper Midwest and of course, in Southern California and so many and across the NFL Um His wife putting out a statement speaking on behalf of their children, Kristen and Brian, who just was hired as Urban Myers passing game coordinator in Jacksonville. after being the O. C. up in Seattle, as a family were surrounding him with love.
So, send all your prayers right now. He's saying he's been in stable condition, but. He is in hospice right now near his home in Charlotte.
So we send our best and all of our love to the Schottenheimer family, which. as we know, has been uh involved in football for a very long time.
So I just wanted to say that. Chris, you ready for your news update over there? Yeah, let's do it. Peter Play is here on the Rich Eisen Show. And now, with a report of the day's news from the world of sports and entertainment, someone who is not a journalist or newsman by any definition of the word whatsoever, it's Chris Brockman.
Chris, what do you have over there?
Okay, I want to start with this because I noticed it the other day. Deshaun Watson, I know we like to read into things and there's social media, maybe bios. Twitter and Instagram, Deshaun Watson has removed all mention of the Houston Texans. Hmm. He just has two people in his bios now on Twitter and Instagram.
For football inquiries, contact this person. For marketing, contact this person. That's it. And that's also for the Texans. Is that how they should contact him as well?
I think for the Texans, if they want to get in touch with him, just contact these people. Hey, man. You know, I know we poke fun of it, but that is definitely an indication of what's in somebody's window. Yeah, I would think that's the one. Not even of him in a Texans uniform?
No, it's definitely not. No. Is his avatar not even of him? His avatar is him, but he's wearing a suit. He's got headphones on, sunglasses.
I'm telling everybody, this is not. going to end with the Texans just hopin' he comes around. This is not gonna end this way. I s Chris, did I not sense it when John McClain came on this program and said that the Texans are never going to trade Deshaun Watson? And I'm like, I understand what he's being told and what he believes and what management totally.
firmly believes they're in control of. I I would be stunned. If week one hits And he's the quarterback of the Houston, Texas. I'd be stunned if the draft hits and he's the quarterback of the Houston, Texas. I'd be stunned if if me if if uh New league year hits and he's the quarterback of the Eastern Texas.
We might not hear about it right now. They might be talking stuff behind the scenes. They might be sitting there and hearing him out or trying to hear him out. or hoping to hear him out. Thinking they can hear him out.
Seems like that's I cannot imagine that he has said what he has said privately, where enough people in the NFL media business report it. And then he has officially asked for a request for a trade, and they're just going to sit on it. and hope that you know He'll just read the writing on the wall that he's going to be the quarterback there. And then and then what? Like game it out.
You're going to hope he doesn't show up. Because he'll, you know, I know they've already denied that he won't show up to organize team activities, but. That's just a three-day bump, you know, bumpy headline ride. That's it. Yeah.
Let's see, like 50%. And then just show up for David Cully's going to have to sit there on his Zoom, presuming that. The pandemic will still be unfortunately in full bloom in April. And he'll be sitting there on a Zoom and just saying, Deshaun's our quarterback. You know, I came here expecting to be still our quarterback.
Game it out. Game it out. And every single day Somebody else is not going to be a possible destination for him. The Rams are off the board. They were on the board this time last week.
They were on the board this time last week. With two first rounders ready to be handed out. Gone. They're on the board.
Now they're off the board.
Next up, someone else will be off the board because they'll take. another free agent quarterback or acquire somebody? I don't get it. I know they don't want to that they think there's some leverage play here, but Unless really behind the scenes is all getting worked out and we don't even know. Not with the Texans, though.
I don't know, but I mean, worked out where he's gone. Right. Like, that they're already working on this. But the photograph we see of him in a Houston Texans helmet. I think it's over.
It's what it sounds like to me. What's he going to basically then come back and say, Uncle, okay, no problem. I'll be there. Yeah, because I just want to be here so I don't get fined. Like, literally, he's not going to.
The fact that you want to even put Deshaun Watson in a position of the Marshawn Lynch position? What are we doing? Nobody wants that. All right, you mentioned the Rams. They did execute that trade over the weekend, Center Goff.
To the Detroit Lions, Jared Goff has spoken, spoke to the New York Times, LA Times. Yes, said as a quarterback, as the guy that's arguably the most important position in the field. If you're in a place that you're not wanted and they want to move on from you, the feeling is mutual. Yeah. You don't want to be in the wrong place.
It became increasingly clear that was the case. That makes sense. Makes sense. Had a very classy social media post about an hour ago thanking the city of Los Angeles and everyone here. He's top notch.
The Rams, et cetera. I hope it works out for him for a Detroit. I know this hasn't been discussed. I haven't heard it discussed anywhere. And I know it doesn't have Uh the sauciness, sex appeal, if you will, of A revenge game or whatever, but it will be.
The Lions are coming to SoFi in 2021. They're on the list. Jared Goff is coming to Sofine. Nice, Mike. We're hoping they'll be fans, obviously.
I'm hoping. But I'll be there. They're on the list. They'll definitely be there. They are on the list.
All right, some other quarterback news. Sean Payton kind of made the rounds today. He said the team has, quote, big interest. And bringing back Jameis Winston if Drew Brees does retire.
So Jameis and Sean Payne. If you're Jameis and you're like, okay, I couldn't even get the. The tryout. when Breeze was out. Like, would you would you go there?
Yeah. Would you go there? Even though it is A terrific setup for a quarterback. I mean, who What better setup would you want than Sean Payton and obviously this offense that. But it's follow the money, right?
They're financially invested in Taysom Hill. One person you know won't want want him to to stay there and be the starter is Anthony Mackey, the uh the actor, the star from the Marvel Universe. A big Jameis fan. You know what I mean?
Well, he was saying that. That Peyton would rather, against the Bucs, lose with Breeze than win with Jameis. And I think he was giving voice to some fans down in the bayou. Might get his wish next year if Jameis becomes a starter.
Okay, Ben Rothesberger was talking yesterday, said he doesn't care about how much the Steelers pay him in 2021. Oh. Apparently Roethlisberger wants to play for the love of the game next year.
Okay.
There's two ways to say. There's two ways to read this. One? He absolutely means it. He's made enough money, right?
He's made enough money. This is not a money play. Man enough money. Got it. Or two, he's already heard the Steelers might be moving on.
What better way to put him in a position of just saying, hey, It's not the money from my point of view. If it is from yours. Could be one of those. Ed Bouchet said, covers the team for the athletics.
Sounds like both sides are looking at one more season.
So that's good. Great Ben. Farewell toward it.
Okay, there we go.
Okay.
All right, so this was interesting. Why is Andrew Luck trending? You know. I'm not sure. I did a little digging, and there seemed to be some screen grabs of a text message of someone who might.
Be involved with the team who said that Andrew is going to talk to Jim Ursay and that the fact that Andrew misses football is an understatement. Come on. I'm just trying to read some social media posts. Is the Captain Andrew Luck Twitter working? Let's look at that.
They might know something. I don't believe that for a second that Andrew Locke. Misses football. Colts need a quarterback. I don't believe that.
Andrew's taken two years off. He's healthy. He's rested. I don't think for a second that Andrew Luck is sitting there. with such a large hole in his life because he's not a football player.
He strikes me as the last person. Of course, he misses the camaraderie and the competitiveness. Nature of it. I mean, I'm sure he does, but to the point where he's got to reverse course and go back. Yeah.
I don't believe that for a second. I think it's more likely that Deshaun Watson returns as a Texans quarterback than Andrew Luck. Oh, wow. I think it's more likely that Deshaun Watson is in the AFC South than Andrew Luck in 2021. Can we make some hat-eating bets here?
I'm out of that game, man. I'm out of the game of eating hats. I know you are. And I know Del Tufo says he's a hat over Gronk coming out of retirement. How do you get out of that?
I don't know. I don't know how he got out of it. All right, and before I need an assist from Mike, big news in the world of gaming yesterday, sports gaming specifically. Finally, EA has announced. College football is coming back.
We're going to get a college football game back. None? that soon, but it's coming. It's going to from the sound of it, it's going to be like two to three years.
Some people were tweeting out yesterday that EA wants to make sure that the players can get paid for their involvement. Very good. It's not going to be NCAA football. It's going to be college football. NCAA not involved.
So hopefully the players can get some scratch. Uh but the college football game is coming back to Whatever you want. What's a worse sports organization, the NCAA or anybody that oversees boxing? A FIFA?
Well, FIFA, we used with Seth Blatter. I mean, I don't know what's going on. He's long gone. NCAA is pretty bad. they're pretty bad.
I mean, they're just a. All right, so that was pretty exciting. That had everybody going nuts yesterday on social media. All right, that's. Yeah, not bad.
Okay.
Mike, you ready? Breaking news. Oh. Hey, how's the weather out there? Tell Tufo with the weekend weather record.
It's raining sideways!
So it's Wednesday and we're already 4K. It's Wednesday and we have some projections about Sunday in Tampa. Take it away, Mike. What's going on for the Sunday?
So we're not looking live.
So I don't want the gamblers to get it. Oh, you're looking five days out. I got it. According to AccuWeather, based on an Ian Rapperport tweet. The forecast for the Super Bowl on Sunday.
It will be. 71 degrees. With a 75% chance of thunderstorms. Bring it: bring the umbrellas, but you gotta leave them outside. Can't bring them into the store.
So the cardboard cutouts are not weatherproof. Whoa, whoa, whoa. They're not weatherproof. No. They're gonna be what?
30,000. Cardboard gets soggy.
Soggy. CBS had that 2006 Super Bowl where it rained like crazy. Right after kickoff. I remember, and there was no cover in that stadium.
Now they've redone it. To have uh cover for the for the stadium and any old ho any whatever they called it back in the day.
Now it's the hard rock. I remember seeing Les Munvez come in looking like he was as drenched as anybody else after the Prince halftime show. Remember seeing him. He looks right at me. He was wet.
He was absolutely rained like a total waterlogged executive. I think Prince could not have been crazy. He was still so fired up about the Prince. He's like, that was the most amazing halftime show I've ever seen. Yeah, purple.
I mean, it was amazing. But that's good.
So CBS is going to have a rainy.
Okay.
Possible.
So that's based on a tweet based on a tweet based on AccuWeather.
So Ian tweeted it. Or the tweet caused you to look it up in the AccuWeather. I mean, I looked, no, the tweet, I looked at Ian's tweet. I just said to Ian's tweet, to be honest. I wanted to make it as easy as possible.
So you slobbed the ball. Weather sources say an accu-weather is confirmed. To use the NFL media parlance. Exactly. I have two sources.
Weather source says 75% chance of thunderstorms. Not even though. Thunderstorms. No, that's thunderstorms. Oh, thunderstorm.
Man. If it was showers, I'd be like, eh, they flood us showers all the time. But thunderstorms? Damn.
Okay.
Ground game. Ground game. Under. Oh, it's the wind. It's wind.
It's wind. What's the wind? What's the wind? I saw 10 miles an hour. I'm off the pitch.
It's the wind. Every quarterback will tell you. We got Kurt Warner on tomorrow. We can hit him on that. I saw 10 miles an hour.
The rain that you don't care about the rain? The rain is like a waterlogged. You know, football or whatever is something that you could keep swapping out, it's the wind, wind is the problem. Wind and rain. 844-204-Rich.
Number to dial when we come back. Michael Griffin. It's been a long, it's been a minute since I've talked with him. He and Brian Arackpo are. They're cupcake guys everybody.

So, um, We've been talking all day long about The plexicoborus. Touchdown pass, right, Christopher?
So it's the 13th anniversary of Super Bowl XLLII. Giants, Patriots, Patriots going for undefeated. Helmet catch happens. Whatever. Giants send the Pats to 18-1 to win the Super Bowl.
So I was wondering. What's the worst way to lose the Super Bowl? Yes. Because we had the Butler interception anniversary a couple days ago. Helmet catch Butler.
Kevin Dyson getting tackled at the one, I think, is criminally underrated as a way to lose the Super Bowl. Or Scott Norwood missing the field goal. Right. Way back. Was that Super Bowl 25, I think?
So, Butler pick kind of leads the way right now, 45%. Norwood, 27%. Dyson, he was going to score before Mike Jones got him. 20%. Only 9% say the helmet catch.
All right. Well, I mean, the helmet catch didn't cost the game. It wasn't the game ender. It was a chunk play that the Giants had not had all day long. And it gave the wind at their backs on a third and five as opposed to four and long.
Right. Fourth and long. And then the Plexigo Burris touchdown is what. Put one the game. And so, as I said, I was in the corner getting ready to go on NFL Network and for the post-game show.
And this is the photograph that we have of it. Amazing. And that's Deion and Marshall right there on the sideline. I'm not pictured. I think I was on, there those two guys are.
I think I was on the goal line. They are in the end zone. With Mooch. Right. The way that the angle is shooting it into the end zone.
I'm almost sure I was on. There I am next to Roger Goodell. Oh, look at you. I was right next to the commission.
Now, that's a memory I don't remember. But yeah, there I am. Look at that. Nice. Literally his right-hand man.
Ready for the trophy. Ready for the trophy. Wow. Little did you know, I was next to Roger Goodell as the ball nestled in. How about that?
In Plexico's hands. That's amazing. That's actually cool. All right. So there's that.
Redemption. R E one and R G one There you go. The NFL is my office. Go for it, Donald. I have no other way to twist it.

just like we are every day on NBC Sports on PCOM. Good stuff right there. 844-204 Rich is the number to die. I've not spoken to Michael Griffin in quite some time. He and Brian Arachpo, who I covered back in the day on NFL Network, Are taking part in a show on Food Network, 1 Eastern Time, 12 Central, streaming the same day on Discovery Plus as well.
Cupcake Guys Training Camp, where the last baker standing wins a $10,000 seat investment in their business. Michael Griffin, two-time Pro Bowler, Tennessee Titans safety back in the day here on the Rich Isaac Show. How have you been, Michael? I've been good. I've been good.
You know, I think everybody's been dealing with the pandemic that's going on in the world, but just blessed. Be with my friends and my family and my kids and enjoying life. You know, there's this life outside of football that I never really knew that existed while I was playing the game of football since I was five years old.
So I was 33 years old.
So are the kids the ones that got you into baking, or you're the head baker here, right? I am. I like to call myself the head baker. When we got into this business, we had to get our feet wet and we had to learn the business. And being pro athletes and, you know, I say egos and guys trying to excel at everything that we do because of that competitive nature, you had to learn the ins and the outs.
So with this business, it was we started with a franchise to learn business and to work our way up from the grounds up. But as a franchise, they already have a foundation in place.
So you get to kind of get to get that cheat code of understanding how this business operates.
So if we wanted to move forward and go past. We kind of know how business work operates and things of that nature.
So I know the NFL provides business school and things of that nature, but there's nothing like really getting your feet wet and walking the steps and seeing what it takes place to actually run a business instead of you see a lot of professional athletes who Open up a business, but they get friends and family and everybody else to run it for them because they don't know exactly what to do. But somebody has that bright idea. But our bright idea was: hey, we're going to be in this all together. And, you know, there's no man that's going to let one man do more than the other.
So it's three of us, and it's been going great for us for the last three years.
Well, the three of you, little Brian Heinzen, is that a lifelong best friend of you, and Brian Arackpo, who, if I'm not mistaken, I've never heard of Brian Rackpo referred to as a lead cupcake decorator, but here we are. Is that what we it's funny because you would think somebody who has a mean pass rush, especially when you see defensive linemen and outside linebackers slap, you know. You know, but he it's it's amazing. He's he's very When he's, you know, with the baking bag and stuff, he's very soft with pushing out the icing and things and that nature. And Brian Henson.
the the best thing about Brian Hanson is, you know, he's been in this this world, you know, from day one. He's been um the manager and GM's of car dealerships and things of that nature.
So he he knows how the business works.
So, you know, I advise people when you do want to you know, get your feet wet and learn and and start a business, be an entrepreneur. You know, navigate and work your way through, you know, filter out your friends and see who who li really holds benefits. and holds value to what your what your ideas that you're coming up with and your game plans and things of that nature. All right, before I ask you about Super Bowl 55, one last question on your on your venture here. If your go-to cupcake, what's the go-to cupcake?
By go to cuck oof. And it might be the Italian cream cheese. We have so many different flavors. I'm not a big chocolate fan myself, but if you like chocolate chip cookie dough, double stuff, which is like an Oreo or peanut butter, we got so many different options. But my go-to is the Italian cream cheese.
Or we got a Kentucky bourbon where we actually put some bourbon in there and we bake it with the bourbon and also in the frosting.
So occasionally when I'm there by myself and I want to just get a little. And drink, but without drinking, just add a little bit more of the bourbon in there. How about that? It kind of does the trick for you.
So it does. Kentucky Bourbon. We have tequila to cupcakes, too.
So we do a little bit of everything. We spice it up a little bit here and there. We got it for all of. Ball tricks and the trades, you know, adults, kids, whatever it may be, we have options for everybody. Italian cream cheese.
Is that what you said? Yes, Italian cream cheese, cream cheese frosting. It's a white coconut cake. We had a little sour cream. Oh my God.
I had it for my birthday this year.
So, yes, it's kind of good also when you can bake for your own kids and bake your own birthday cakes and things of that nature.
So it saves you a lot of money. It's great, again, that you're helping aspiring entrepreneurs achieve their dreams. It's a good thing you're helping Strahan on that. He's such an inspiring entrepreneur. I can't believe it's a good thing.
You know, I mean, it's amazing that Stray is actually producing a show. I mean, normally he's just lazing around the house doing nothing with his life.
So it's impressive what he's doing with you guys. It's definitely impressive. I mean, just being able to, you know, first play it against him, but then when you get to meet him, talk to him, just see all the different things that he has going on. He sure does. You know, you see him on the NFL, you see him for NFL, then you see him doing interviews, and you see him on everywhere.
So it's like, I'm like, hey, when do you get time to spend time with your family? When do you get time? He's like, all right, as soon as I leave here, I'm getting another suit on. I'm jumping on the plane. I'm going here.
But again, to be successful, you got to be hardworking. You got to put the same amount of effort and work ethic that you did to be where you at today. And again, even watching yourself, it takes time and it's a lot of hard work. It's not easy, but to see how everybody continues to climb that ladder to help everybody out. How do you think Super Bowl 55.
Mm-hmm. Winds up, Michael Griffin. Break it down.
Well, I was just talking. You were saying a little bit of the weather and things in that next year.
So it's going to be see who has the best run-up game. I think Fortinet's been coming, having, you know, he's been. coming into his own as of late. Um We know Tampa Bay loves and Brady loves the play action pass.
So they may be able to continue to get that going, depending on how Antonio Brown, how healthy he is to have that third extra receiver out there with Godwin. And uh and and number thirteen, but uh again, this this is like uh one of those games like is the torch being passed. Or is it the the goat's going to continue to keep it?
So uh I I just I we all know it's about the turnovers last year. San Francisco pretty much had it, but as soon as Kansas City started creating those turnovers, they were able to, you know. get the ball rolling and we know Patrick Mahomes, you know, he can play from behind. We saw that last year versus. Tennessee Tigers, we saw it also versus the uh the Houston Texans.
he can play from behind, so they are a team that can score very quick.
So um I think I'm just looking for a good exciting game. I'm not going I I'm not allowed to accept that, Michael Griffin. This is not cupcake. I'm looking for an exciting game. You remember, I wasn't I wasn't a fan of the Rams versus the Patriots.
It was just too boring for me. It was like nothing going on. No, I know that. I I get it, Michael Griffin, but this is not a cupcake shop. There's no Italian cream cheese or Oreo double stuffed choices.
You must have one choice. Who wins Super Bowl 55? I think Patrick Mahomes is gonna get this one.
Okay.
There you go.
I really do. I gotta do it. I bet I bet I bet it a kid I bet this kid at the local grocery store. T He just came, he's like, I know who you are and I was like, Oh, okay, nice meeting you and he just charged me up and I was like, Well, then put your money where your mouth is And he said, I know who you are, I know you got a lot of money and I said, Well, how much you willing to lose? And he's like, I got Tampa Bay, so I gotta go with Kansas City right now.
I hope it's a good game, but I gotta go with Kansas City so I can. But I told him if I win, there was another young lady that was bagging my groceries. I said, if I win, you're gonna give her the money. Yeah, I love it. I don't wanna come looking for you.
I want you to give her the money.
So you're going to have to pay her. But if I lose, I will be here Monday morning and I'll have your money in an envelope.
So, but again, hopefully this young lady is blessed with $50. Tip. I love it. Hey, before I let you go, what do you and Aracpo think of Sark taking over the Longhorn football program? What do you think of this?
I'm excited. We got to have a conversation with him, and he's. He's humble. And I think the kids are going to love him. He's very outspoken.
spoken about his past. He does he's not shy. He didn't shy from it. And I think when you see a coach that's very genuine, like Mac Brown, and some of the other coaches that I had when I played in Ron Rivera, another one. Uh Guys that I play with, you see how genuine they are.
It allows ki you know, players, let alone kids, to want to play for you. And they're willing to do anything and everything for you.
So I'm very excited. I think he's assembling a real good, good, and nice coaching staff. And you saw the national championship game. I mean, whoever his playmakers is, he's going to get them the ball.
So um We got a young kid by the name of Bijan Robinson that hopefully is probably up for the highs in the next few years. He got, I think, the last two games. He had over 700 yards total rushing. or three games, he had over seven hundred yards and about six to seven touchdowns.
So I'm sure that's going to be his workhorse. And again, I'm excited. Hopefully, Texas can be get back To where it used to be. I know a lot of us longhorns have been living in the past, but hopefully we can start living in the future and the present.
So I'm excited to see what goes and what he can do with this upcoming team.
Well, Michael, I appreciate the time. I always like leaving a guest better than when I found him. Good luck with Cupcake Guys Training Camp on this weekend on Food Network at 12 1 Eastern Time and then on Discovery Plus as well. Leaving you in a better way. What about a Bevo cupcake?
You know, the top of the cupcake or the horns? What do you think? What do you think of that? We will have that. But right now, we're definitely, we're doing.
We know that Kansas City is known for their dirt cake, and we know that Tampa Bay is known for that key lime pie cupcake.
So if you're in the Austin area and you're listening, be sure to stop by. But I did just baked some cupcakes yesterday, and I'm going to bake some more, some key lime. And we did our own little type of Oreo type thing that we're doing. I mean, we're here in LA. What do we got?
A gold belly it over here? What are we going to do? The next time I come to LA. I'll be sure to come knock on the door. No, no, no, no.
I'm coming. There's something called shipping, right?
Next day.
So come on. I don't have a problem going to LA. LA is a great city.
Now, I'm not saying you personally bring it. Put it, you know, ship it. A little gold belly or something. Whatever we got to do. I think if I can tell the wife that I got to go take, I got to take cupcake and things.
I think she'd be really good. This is why you're with Stray. It's all about branding and next-level stuff. I understand. Thanks for the call, Michael.
Thanks for the call. Appreciate y'all. You have a good rest. Right back at you. Send my best to Brian.
It's been a long time since I spoke to Brian Arakpo and his. Deep Barry White dulcet tones. Again, check out. Cupcake Guys Training Camp. Food Network.
God, cupcakes are so good. I wasn't going to ask a Titan the poll question about, hey, he wasn't on those Titans, but all Titans wear the. Disappointment of uh Kevin Dyson one yard short. Man, I just can't believe a Super Bowl ended that way. And then there's one that ended on the pass on the goal line.
I mean, insanity. It's insanity. Watch the clip of this Dyson play. It's not. He's got the whole end zone right in front of him.
He is going to score. If I'm not mistaken, Al Michaels called that and Malcolm Butler. Yeah. Definitely the butler. I know that.
I think he called that one too. I think ABC. He was still on ABC when they had. Look at that. I mean, that's inside the one.
Insane. Oh, my God. They could have. Oh. Oh my god.
I was so mad watching it. Oh my gosh. I'm mad for it because you thought Marsha was going to get the ball. And you hate the Patriots. Those two things together.
All right. I want to thank Willie McGinnis, Steve Smith Sr., Kyle Brandt, Devontae Smith, and Michael Griffin. Tomorrow, Kurt Warner headlines our guests along with the Prez of Seattle, Jamal Adams. And we've got more fun in store.
So we'll see all of our radio audience on Thursday. NBC Sports on Peacock. We'll take you to Brother from Another in a second.
