MVP, SGA, and Company say we will OKC you in the NBA finals, baby. The Rich Eisen Show with guest host, Suzie Schuster. Earlier on the show, Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot. Still to come, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.
Plus, your phone calls, latest news, and more. And now, sitting in for Rich, it's Suzie Schuster. That is right, Suzie Schuster in for Rich Eisen. Rich had a little bit of a snafu this morning, let's say, about jury duty.
Let's just leave it at that. He's going to be doing a full jury duty at the end of July. And here I am, guys.
Suzie Schuster in the chair for you. TJ Jefferson, how are you, sir? What up, though? Ah, so good, right? So good. Billy, how are you this morning?
It's great, thank you. Good. Not as good as Corbin. You guys, Chris.
Not as good as Corbin's going to be. Meanwhile, Chris has been laughing since Corbin hung up. I'm the dummy who sat there. I'm like, oh, that's nice. They're going to order in tonight and relax and watch a movie on Roku.
That is not what's going to happen. April 4, 2004, Rich's number to call. They're all going to hang out and watch a movie. What are you doing your birthday?
Usually Rich is at the Hall of Fame, so I go out with my girlfriend. This could be the first year in about 20 that we're actually in the same town. Are you going to send them out of town?
Yeah. Why don't you take a weekend of yourself? Laura and I have plans.
Corbin said sit on the sofa with his girlfriend. And me going, yeah, that didn't like make you go, hmm. That's my man. No, I just said, oh, Magic City. What's that? I told you it's a place where people gather from all around the world to. I was surprised they have those establishments in Utah.
I was kind of a shock. I was going to say Magic City could be OKC, but then again, they might take that the wrong way after OKC moves on. 124-94. Big win last night there. Also a game coming up tonight. Knicks Pacers series is at 3-1. What do you think happens tonight? I think the Pacers win.
Easily or is it just another kind of close, weird finish? I feel like there's a weird vibe there when it's Pacers. It's like that throwback to Reggie and Stockton Malone.
I mean, you know, not Stockton Malone, sorry, but Patrick Ewing. And I feel like there's that Starks. That's where I was going.
John Starks. And I just feel like there's a weird vibe there. You think that they're going to come back and maybe put it up. But I think the Pacers bench is so deep. I said it here last week as well, that the Pacers bench is so deep that Tyrese Halliburton, you're saying, oh, he can't have another game like he did the other night.
But I think he can. Here's the thing about the Knicks, TJ, and like they're a very likable Knicks team. Like we said earlier, all their players really care and give an S and they're super gritty and tough. Brunson is awesome.
We love Cat. They've got all the great supporting pieces. I'm still on the fence about Tibbs as a coach, but at some point you are who you are, right? And this is a team that has routinely in the playoffs gotten down to 20 point deficits. It's kind of a miracle they're even they even made it this far in the first place. They should have lost the Celtics seriously.
We can be honest about that. It took it took historically bad shooting from an all time great team for the Knicks and then an injury. I mean, let's let's not discount the fact that you had an epic injury. And now they're in the same situation.
That super weird, flukey game one. Yes, they probably should have won. But they were down 20 in the other games. They were down big the other night and came back before losing.
It's just at some point you are who you are. And I feel like tonight might be a blowout, despite all the the pomp and circumstance and energy and craziness that's going to be at MSG tonight. I just I just don't I don't see it ending well for them.
Yeah. TJ, I don't even think that Chalamet can save them. I just think that he's going to exploit New York's defense. I think that the bench is going to be overpowering. And I do think that Tyrese Halliburton will have another monster game. First is, you know, I love you, but please don't ever disrespect the name of Chalamet like that.
If Chalamet is in the building, then there's always a chance. All right. First and foremost. But Chris, earlier you said nothing would surprise you like. I know. I know. I know. I think in the last hour I just flipped.
I don't know what happened. But I agree with you, man. Like I said, just based upon the fact that they don't have a great record at home in the playoffs. But you've got to think, man, like those guys, they should man. They know their backs are firmly up against the wall.
They got a deep, deep, deep dig down today or dig down deep, I guess. And they have to Chalamet. In front of God country and Chalamet, the New York Knicks have to do it. And that means Cat has to put this team on his back. That means Brunson's got to do Brunson things.
But of course, the bridges and the OGs, they really got to step up tonight because those other two guys, those other two guys just simply can't do it all on their own. Let's just make it. Let's make it into a verb. They have to shout. They have to shout. They have to rise. They have to shout. What is the fix? Is it getting Deuce McBride more minutes?
Is it playing campaign? I mean, God, Precious Ochoa has played four minutes a game in the playoffs, right? By the way, one of my favorite names of all time. Can we just get something out of Precious Ochoa? It's going to take that type of game tonight, I think, for New York. Like somebody is going to have to to do it who you're not expecting.
All right. Who do you think it will be then? I don't think, unfortunately for them, I don't think it's going to be anyone. But I mean, is this the Deuce McBride like five threes game like like Neesmith the other day?
Is it is it campaign getting in there again? These guys, we know this is Tibbs's M.O. It's like they have Brunson, Towns, O.G. All these guys are averaging over thirty five minutes a game. Bridges and O.G. average forty.
Brunson thirty eight. I mean, at some point it just seems like it's catching up with them. I know they were toying with maybe a lineup change, but just maybe give some guys some more run to see if they can get hot for a few minutes and get some life into the building. I don't know. I just I don't see it. All right. Let's go on a limb stating the obvious, which is if they let a big deficit build up, then they're toast.
But if they stay, you can't say that you can't say that because they've come back back. Yeah, I'm trying to state that I'm trying to take the obvious and do something. I'm trying to put myself out there so I can get roasted tomorrow.
I'm a shut up. Yeah, I'm trying to shell me this through. Like last night, that game was over very early. It was twenty twenty five to nine or something super. And you're like, OK, this is done. Minnesota's not. What if I make a prediction not knowing anything whatsoever?
So AKA sound like everybody else. I think the Pacers just absolutely take this from from get to get to twenty point win tonight for Indiana. I'm going to go 16 point win. What if I'm right? That would be a donut spray.
Oh, I'm just saying bet it donuts for everybody. Chris has got a top five coming up, but let's take a call first because the lines are lit. Let's do it.
And you know, I love the colors are Christopher and Maine Viking. Is this Chris Brockman on the phone? Are you doing a double whammy? Hey, Chris, how are you? What's up, brother?
Hey, what's going on? Why aren't you a Patriots fan? Great question. My dad actually did work in Duluth forever ago. And, you know, turns out New England, it's they weren't always good. So you got to figure that out. You're not wrong. Not wrong. All right. You actually had a Lord Taylor Jersey who was a giant fan did work in Minnesota.
So grew up a Viking fan. I get it. I get it.
I mean, I guess that's better than the Giants. Hey, I want to do win loss. Yes, absolutely. And as Chris said, call your shot.
Then this is the days of the day, you know, like the Vikings winning the Super Bowl. It's it's time this year. Oh, baby.
All right. Let's go. Starting off with a whammy.
Let's go ready, Feli. We week one at the beers on a Monday night. I'll actually be there going back to visit the restaurant. I helped open Galit in Chicago for James Beard this year. Bringing the wife out there.
So that's a big win. I mean, do you want to make any kind of costed comments? TJ is bringing his wife out for a nice dinner and a football game. That seems lovely. I mean, TJ, you got nothing to say about that.
Usually going to be like, oh, they're having a crazy night out there. All right. Fine. TJ's ignoring me. TJ, you over there? Yeah. Oh, he's reading something. Sorry.
He's busy. We're just doing a show. All right. Week two. Falcons at home.
Oh, my God. Yeah. Vikings.
Easy. Week three. Bengals. Bengals are going to be tough. That's actually the loss.
That's tough. Week four in Dublin against the Steelers. Oh, that's a big win. Who knows who's going to play in quarterback. Week five. Tottenham versus the Browns.
Also a big win. Biggest loss of the Browns have is their GM and thank God we have them. Week six of by which is much needed. Week seven.
Home for the Eagles win. Week eight. Thursday night at the Chargers.
Loss. Week nine at the Lions. When we tenant the Ravens. When we could 11 bears at home. When we 12 at the Packers. When we 13 at the Seahawks. When Tim Darnold 10 and two coming up soon on the rich guys and show week 14 commanders. Lost week 15 at the Cowboys.
When we succeed at the Giants. Big win. Big win. Big win, TJ.
You eating 11 and three. No way. No win.
Hey. Week 17. Lions on a Thursday. Oh, absolute win. Week 18.
Packers at home. Oh, definitely win math. Fourteen and three. Wow. Got to be one. It's hard.
I mean, it's a win for JJ McCarthy is also win for the rich guys and show. It is true. True.
Which is fourth child. I think with that system and regardless of we don't have a backup, no one else that division has backup. We have half of Indianapolis offensive line. So hopefully this year is the year.
And I don't think we have a defensive coordinator next year after. So it's the year to win it. Super, super high on JJ. Chris, I am actually high on JJ. A lot more mobility. I mean, it's hard to say that with a guy with meniscus surgery, but but he has a lot more mobility. I think he can fling with that talent.
I'm super high on it. And Kevin O'Connell knows how to do things there. He does. We'll be all right. He does.
He's with the right coach. Thanks again for your time, Chris. Thanks, man. Absolutely. Thank you. Thank you, guys. Have a good one. Always.
Always. Time for another call. You want to do you want to do your top five?
What do you want to do? We could take a we could take a top five. You know what? All right. Let's go top five. Let's go.
Let's go. One, two, three, four, five. Rockman's top five. That couldn't be creepier. I love that.
I love that. Here's here's my idea for the top five today, guys. You ready for this lot of talk this week? TJ, you're watching all the shows.
It's Tyrese Halliburton, a superstar, right? A lot of talk about that. What do you say? Do you think he is? I say I say the argument four is becoming stronger every second.
That's what I'm saying. So putting an NFL spin on this top five top five players who could make the leap to superstar. To superstar in twenty twenty five top five NFL players who could make the leap to superstar in twenty twenty five. Here we go.
Number five. We're starting out an unsexy position, but one that has a lot of beasts at this position. Tight end. I'm talking about Trey McBride, TJ. This guy, fantasy darling heading into last year. But as we know, didn't score a touchdown until the last two weeks of the season. But everyone was talking about Brock Bowers last year. Trey McBride had one less catch, fifty less yards. He was right there toe to toe as a tight end one last season. And I think with this offense, Kyler Murray coming on there, a rising team in the NFC West. Trey McBride could be that next tight end superstar as we see the end of Travis Kelce's career. And now the ascendant ascendance of Trey McBride. He's number five.
Number four. This team, TJ, took everyone by storm, unfortunately for you, because it was NFC East. I'm talking about Terry Maclaurin. Terry Maclaurin could be that next superstar wide receiver. He makes a leap along with Jayden Daniels, along with this commander's offense.
A lot of hope coming into the twenty twenty five season for the Washington commanders. And I think Terry Maclaurin, look, if you had Terry Maclaurin in fantasy last year, you probably made the playoffs, possibly went went to your championship. This guy was an absolute monster. And I think Terry Maclaurin could be one of those next superstar wide receivers.
Now, number three, I want to go to defense. And this is a guy Houston traded up for in the draft. Was a big name coming in into the draft a couple of years ago.
They traded up to get him. I'm talking about Will Anderson Jr. OK, defensive rookie of the year. This guy is kind of a perennial going to be in the conversation for defensive player of the year. He had a dozen sacks last season.
You talk about Houston and the run they've made the last couple of years in the playoffs, winning games in the postseason. This guy leads the defense. And I think he could be that next great superstar linebacker, defensive player that we're going to be talking about on par with the Miles Garretts and the T.J. Watts and the Max Crosby's. That type is Will Anderson Jr.. Now, number two, Parsons, you forgot Micah Parsons already in that in that superstar status.
Now, if you're wondering, like what the qualifications for this, we only had one. No, no rookies, no second year players. So that's why you're not going to see Jayden Daniels or any of those types of guys in this list. Jayden Daniels kind of followed himself already. But I want to keep it the guys third season and beyond who aren't quite there yet, which is where it puts me to number two, T.J. I'm talking about Bijan Robinson. Bijan Robinson.
That's my boy. This guy is going to be maybe the first overall pick in all your fantasy drafts this year. He finally we thought maybe as a rookie, he was going to have that that next great rookie to come out of the gate and maybe challenge, you know, Eric Dickerson's rookie rushing record. But he got Arthur Smith in that offense.
Right. Then last year you saw what the potential could be with Bijan. The pass catching the big play ability got in the end zone a lot more.
When Pennix came in, you saw what a one to punch they could be. Daraque London, all those guys on that Falcons offense. I think Bijan Robinson is is ready to vault himself to Saquon status in the NFL at the running back position. And number one, got to have a quarterback on this list, T.J., got to have a quarterback on this list. Quarterbacks, most quarterbacks are superstars anyway. But this guy has an opportunity to really vault himself to the next level in that next superstar stratosphere, plays in the best division in football. We were just there for the NFL draft. I'm talking about Jordan Love really has a chance to vault himself to superstar status. What did Green Bay do this year for one of the first time in forever?
We can remember they drafted a wide receiver in the first round. They're surrounding him with the weapons needed to really take the next level and win that division. Josh Jacobs is there to help. I'm talking about Jordan Love.
Look at that. That guy's got a superstar face, got a superstar arm. He's wearing the next great quarterback superstar number, number 10. I think Jordan, he's got the name. Jordan Love. As soon as I think of Jordan, I think of Mike, superstar, GOAT. Jordan Love has a chance to be the next best superstar. One more.
I did not know this. One more? One more. T.J., one more. Just one more. Going to stick with the quarterback position. And it's a guy that you love kind of to hate.
What a setup. I'm talking about Trevor Lawrence. It's finally his time to take the leap to become a superstar in the NFL. Trevor Lawrence, I'm not saying it's last chance saloon, but we're getting close to being out of excuses and chances for Trevor. Brian Thomas Jr. had his massive breakout last year. That guy is going to be a superstar wide receiver soon. And of course, the giant draft day trade for Travis Hunter.
Offensive coach Liam Cohen, Duval. It's really an opportunity now for Trevor Lawrence to take that leap that we all thought was coming when he was the first overall pick. We've been waiting and waiting and waiting for Trevor to have his moment.
And I think this is the year that he could finally do it. So you're saying there's a chance. I'm saying it might be the last chance for Trevor Lawrence.
So you're saying there's a chance. OK, Trevor Lawrence or Jordan, which who are you ranking? How are we ranking this? Because when you say there's just one more. Well, when I counted it down.
Number five, Trevor McBride. OK, watch the tone. Watch the tone. When you say there's one more. If you noticed, I was careful with my phrasing. Three, Will Anderson, two, Bijan Robinson.
One was Jordan Love. First of all, I wasn't paying attention because you were talking. And then one more. I understand. Well, there's one more. I was not going to call you out for that. You called yourself out for that.
One was Jordan Love. And then the one more, just like keep an eye on that. So it's a keep an eye on, you know, all you had to do is get into that nicely.
You could have just said, oh, I really just meant like keep an eye on him. I was asking you for a question that would have taken a little bit of a challenge, like maybe ask you to expound a bit more. But you just chose to waste your time. I did not waste my time. I recap the list in case people are just tuning in. And then I said one more just in case you need one more.
Trevor Lawrence. I wasn't paying attention anyway. All right. Let's take a break. When we come back, let's hear from Sam Darnold.
Rich got a chance to talk to him after the show yesterday. So we're going to roll that in. Sam Darnold coming up next on the Rich Eisen Show. At AutoZone. Restrictions apply.

See full terms at mintmobile.com. I thought to myself, okay, in the few minutes that are here, let me write an Ed Hockley retirement letter and read it out on the air. We then posted on the Rich Eisen Show feed exclusive.
The number of people that retweeted it and said they thought it was real is alarming. It's the only way to put it. So, God bless him. You know how much we love SVP. Is Scott on the line now?
Is Scott there? Yeah. You thought it was real? Well, I mean, as you said, you are a guy that has a reputation. You work at the NFL Network. You've got sources. When it was brought up to me in our meeting, hey, did you see the letter Hockley wrote? And I thought, well, that's funny. And then later, as I'm trying to write this script, I'm not finding it anywhere on Google searches or whatever. But I'm like, where'd y'all see that? And then the producer that had it is like, oh, it's on Eisen's feed. So I read your feed and I'm like, there it is.
I see the quotes that work and I just I just slam it in there on the script and read it on television. Fake news. Fake news. Hashtag.
Yes. Hashtag. Fake news. I'm mortified. Apologies to Mr. Hockley.
I'm sorry. We did not. That was not our intent. We didn't know it was going to happen like that. That's entirely on us for not for not vetting. It goes off to me that I'm not able to find this anywhere but there.
But again, and this is where I'll turn it and point at you and blame you. When you're a source of information and you've got stuff no one else got, you think, yeah, sure. You've got the Hockley retirement letter. And it's, I guess, believable that he's got his own stationery with himself on it.
There's a watermark of him as a rat. Unbelievable as it is that he's going to go sort out the lactic acid with this regimen. Vigorous regimen.
Vigorous regimen. I beg your pardon. You're the best, man. You're the best. I'm sorry. You're the worst.
Don't don't don't spoof me like that. Well, you guys, just after we had on Mary Kay Cabot, she got the Bill Nunn Memorial Award. She is going to the Pro Football Writers Hall of Fame. So congratulations to her.
And you are welcome. Susie Schuster in for Rich, who is having a weird day. He went to go report for jury duty, called in super late last night on the way back from Anaheim.
And yada, yada, yada. He'll be doing jury duty in July. See you in July, guys. He did get a chance to talk to Sam Darnold, though, yesterday. And Cooper Cupp is just a couple couple days in that Seahawks uniform. But he's already liking what he is seeing out of QB number one. Let's take a listen to what Rich had to say with Sam yesterday.
He is the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. And he is joining us here on the Rich Eisen Show. Sam Darnold is here. Good to see you, Sam. How are you, sir? Hey, I'm good. How are you doing, Rich? I am doing fine.
Look at you in the Seattle Seahawks colors. It's it really is amazing to see. To be honest, Sam didn't didn't see this coming for you. How's it been for you to be in a new digs again?
But the manner in which you are walking into your situation, Sam? Yeah, it's been great. You know, it's been unbelievable just, you know, stepping in the building ever since I got here. It's felt like home. And yeah, just I mean, the reception that I got from players, you know, coaches, everybody popped down.
It's been unbelievable and just so excited to be here. And to to basically have this is this is your team, you know, and it's yours to quarterback. It is yours to lead. And I'm wondering how that feels for you, Sam?
Yeah. I mean, I think for for me, it's nothing really changes. You know, that's kind of the mindset I had going into last year and years prior as well. But I think the biggest thing for me is just making sure that, you know, I take it one day at a time.
You know, don't don't get too far ahead of myself or worry about, you know, what would happen this year if this happens or, you know, you get into kind of all those things. And I think for me, it really is about just taking it one day at a time and going from there. And just the opportunity, I guess, is what I'm saying and making reference to your journey, how you were drafted in the league and then how you were traded to another team and then how you wound up in San Francisco and then your opportunity that you got in Minnesota and how you burst the door down. And I'm just wondering, what did you learn last year about quarterbacking that potentially unlocked your potential in such a manner in Minnesota?
Sam? Yeah, I think it's I mean, I can't point to one thing, right? I think it's like a simulation of, you know, everything that I've learned in the NFL and even going back to, you know, being in New York and being in Carolina, you know, at some points when I struggled, like I learned through all those moments and, you know, even going back to my times in San Fran to, you know, going to, you know, what I learned with Kyle, you know, obviously Clint Kubiak was on that staff as well, but his brother Clay, Brian Greasy, Brock, you know, just all the people that were in that building helped me out a ton, just learning how to, you know, continue to be a professional and just learn the system and understand, you know, good football and bringing that, you know, all the way to Minnesota and doing my best. Like I just said, man, just doing everything I could to understand the playbook, better understand defenses and kind of what, um, you know, at the end of the day, like the intention of every single play, you know, there's an intention with every play that's called. And I think being on the same page with, with Kevin O'Connell, um, pretty much every single play that he called last year was, was a huge key in that. Um, so I think just continuing to have that dialogue back and forth with the person calling plays.
And, um, like I mentioned, you know, Clint Kubiak, we've, we've already had so many conversations about, you know, certain plays and what we're kind of thinking when we're calling them against what defense is. So it's been, it's been great so far here and, um, but again, you know, I don't know if I answered your question, but I can't really point to, I can't really point to one thing that, you know, really, really helped me a ton to, to be able to, um, you know, be where I am today, but, um, I would just say it's, it's the long journey. Um, and you know, um, every single step along the way helped me out to, to get to this point. And if I could pinpoint a moment and ask you what it was like, and again, we will get to the current day here, uh, from last year, it was you, um, taking care of the Packers, um, in the second time that you faced them.
And then you go back to your locker room and the welcome you received this photograph right here, man, like this, I saw this and, and I, I was just wondering what was going through your skull. It looked like this was like years in the making, uh, not to be too dramatic, but I'm just wondering, what was this moment like for you, Sam? No, it was, it was special. You know, definitely was not expecting that reception at all, but, uh, just the, the special, you know, group that we had, um, last year, it was, um, just a special team to be a part of, you know, even from the beginning, you know, people, um, not necessarily thinking we were going to be a great team. Um, you know, and, and for us to just be able to, like, I continue to mention, like, we, we took it one day at a time and that was really the, the theme of the last year. Um, you know, and that's kind of been my theme throughout my entire journey. Um, but yeah, to, to, you know, have that reception at the end of the game and it was, it was a special moment, something I'll never forget. And you're taking the reins there, Sam Darnold in Seattle from a guy who, who, uh, in Geno Smith, um, who took a while to get his opportunity, um, after being drafted by the Jets.
I don't know if you've, if that sounds familiar to you, you know, but, uh, but, but he famously also said that many people wrote him off, but he never wrote back. And that's a line that he said, um, what's your two cents on how long a quarterback should get to prove himself in the National Football League from your perspective? What's your philosophy on that, Sam? I think everybody's different. First of all, that's an unbelievable line by Geno. I don't have that in me.
I'm not going to give you one liners that'll, you know, you'll put it up on a bulletin board anywhere. Uh, no, it's, uh, you know, just, I think everybody's different. Um, every situation's different. Every team is different. Um, every coaching staff is different. There's so many, so many different things that go into playing, uh, this position specifically, um, this game as well. I mean, it's, you know, obviously 22 guys on the field and, and, you know, 11 guys that, that, you know, 10 guys really on your side of the ball that you have to be able to trust with, you know, everything that they do. And, um, you know, and, and coaches and players gotta be, you know, uh, in tune with kind of what we're game planning for. And, and, you know, if a defense wants to bring a certain different, you know, pressure a blitz that we'd necessarily haven't seen before, like you gotta be on the same page with those things.
So there's so many different factors that go into it. Um, but I think, you know, as a quarterback, it's, it really is just, you know, the situation, um, you know, kind of having a really good coaching staff. Um, obviously you gotta have good players around you. Um, and again, I can allude to so many times last year where our defense, um, save our butts in a lot of games, um, as an offense and, you know, for, for us to be able to have that defense that we had last year. Um, and I, I know we have a great defense here in Seattle. Um, and so there's, there's obviously, you know, a lot of factors that go into playing good quarterback and, um, but I think the biggest thing, um, that kind of changed my mindset was first and second down. Um, just understanding kind of when a play is over, when I might need to throw it away, um, when I might need to scramble and, and I think just being safe with the football on first and second down, even third down as well. Um, but really all situations, just having a better understanding of the situation, um, and kind of going from there. Yeah.
I mean, to heck with it, I'll just come straight through the door. I mean, you're going to see, um, Baker Mayfield who was drafted two spots in front of you in week five. I asked him that question, uh, once upon a time, he said anywhere between five to six years, Jared Goff, who you obviously competed against last year, said the same thing, you know, and we're already talking about, uh, reps for rookies in training camp right now who were just drafted, right. And, and second year players and third year players and whether they're, you know, going to get another contract and things like that. And it just seems that, uh, things are rushed a little bit too much these days for drafted players at the position sound, you know, I think, yeah, for sure.
Um, you know, I think, you know, there's, there's a timeline to everything. You know, you have guys like myself, Gino that, um, you know, learn a lot throughout their career and, and play better in their later years. You know, same thing as Baker, Jared, um, you know, but also, you know, you have guys like CJ Stroud who just go out there, ball out, um, and so, and also Jane Daniels, like there's, there's so many different situations around the league that you can point to that are so different. Um, and I think that's kind of what I'm getting at is, you know, you can see the talent, um, just meeting someone. I feel like you can get a sense of kind of their, you know, how their brain works a little bit. You know, are they, you know, are they personable?
Um, can they hang in a room with a bunch of different, you know, people? Um, and I think that goes a long way as well. So, um, you know, I, I, I do believe that it can take some time. Um, you know, as a, especially, you know, in college, these offenses that colleges are running now are, um, a little bit different than some of the offenses that we're running here in the NFL.
And, um, so I think there definitely is a learning curve when you, when you get to the league for sure. A couple of minutes left here with Sam Darnold, a quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks here on the Rich Isaac show. Let's talk about the here and now what's it like to throw to Cooper cup if you've done so already, Sam, what's that been like for you?
Yeah. Coop's amazing. He's, you know, the way he moves is, um, very unique. I think being able to get a ton of reps with him, um, and just see how he kind of gets in and out of routes, um, is like I said, it's different, um, but that's what, that's what's made him such a great player, um, is, you know, just the way that, you know, he can make certain look certain routes look the same, um, and he ends up in a completely different spot.
Um, it's very, um, very unique and he is different that way. And so I think, yeah, just being able to get those reps with him has been amazing. Um, being able to find the time to think, um, with that has been incredible because there's a lot of routes, you know, as you, as you guys know, like you gotta be able to throw it before he gets out of a break.
Um, so there's, there's just a lot of dialogue that has to happen there. Obviously with Coop, um, JSN, Marquez, like all these guys, we've got a bunch of good tight ends, good running backs too. So, um, it's been going really good though, man, just, just to be able to get in the building and spend time with these guys every single day on and off the field. It's been, um, it's been awesome getting to know everybody. Yeah. JSN is in Jackson Smith and Jigbo who had a breakout season last year to the point where your, your team may have been more comfortable, I guess, sending, um, sending DK Metcalf onward.
What's it been like to throw to that kid out of Ohio state, by the way, a fellow big tenor in big 10 country. That's how things have changed. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
You know, for you and our football. Yeah. I can't imagine. I can't imagine going to play Rutgers on a Friday night, you know, I was, you know, still in school trying to figure out my class schedule and how that'll work, but you know, I know they got it figured out.
They got it dialed over there at USC, so it's all good. But uh, no man. Yeah.
I feel a big tenor. JSN is also a lot easier to say than Jackson Smith and Jigbo. So I'm just going to pull with JSN, man. You got Valdez, scantling, you got Smith and Jigbo, you know, you got three sticks behind you. And Kenneth Walker, the third, you got a lot going on right there. Exactly.
Exactly. Um, no, but, but Jax has been great. Um, like, like what I did there too, Jax, another one, he's got like four different nicknames. It's awesome. But, uh, no, it's, it's been great, man.
He's he's kind of similar, um, to coop that way where, you know, he does things a little different as do a lot of receivers and just being able to get reps. Like I said, um, that's the biggest thing at this time of the year, getting to know these guys personally, um, and getting to get, you know, get a feel for, you know, how they're running the routes. And now we're finally going up against the defense here in phase three, which helps a ton. When did you know Seattle was your spot, Sam and during, during that whole period of March, when did that finally hit you where you knew this is going to be for you?
Yeah. It's, uh, you know, you're kind of narrowing things down and you know, I'm talking to my agent and then all of a sudden we find out that Geno's potentially getting traded. Um, you know, when, when we found that out, that was kind of like, okay, Seattle's in the mix for sure. Um, and you know, things just kind of happened behind the scenes and, um, you know, before you know it, there's, you know, um, there's certain things moving and, and it just, it all happened so fast.
You know, you don't, you don't really know where you're going like two days before you sign. Um, and all of a sudden I, I, you know, knew that, you know, um, especially, like I said, after the Geno trade happened, I felt like this could be a good place. Um, I know, I know coach McDonald, um, you know, had the boys rolling last year. I felt like that was a tough defense to go against when I was playing against them up in, up in Lumen field when I was in Minnesota last year. But um, yeah, McDonald's got us rolling.
Um, you know, obviously Clint, no one Clint from 23 in San Francisco. Um, that was huge as well. Um, and then like I said, man, all the, all the guys, the, the defensive players, the offensive players that we have, um, the entire coaching staff really. And you know, you talk around the league to like a bunch of guys talk and, um, Seattle is always a, is always a, you know, um, highly talked about place.
Um, you know, it's just a very, um, a good place. Um, and you can tell that by the, by the way that guys talk about it around the league. And so that was that, uh, that helped a lot as well. So there were a lot of factors, but at the end of the day, it all happened so fast. So within a couple of days and before you knew it, I was a Seattle Seahawks.
No kidding. Cause I mean, from the outside, a lot of people, Sam were thinking, okay, um, you and Seattle were talking and that's when they got, got, you know, Gino, uh, to his former coach in, in Vegas and Pete Carroll. So, but you didn't know like really like 72 hours before you went to Seattle, it really was up in the air for you free agency style for you. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I mean, we, you know, we had narrowed it down pretty good, but, um, yeah, there's, there's definitely a lot of discussions. Um, and then you start to get in the contract talks like it's, um, there's a whole, there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes and, uh, you know, I'm just glad that I have the team that I have. Um, we were able to make it work with, uh, with John and the guys upstairs. So it was great.
Yeah. Well, and it's just a great spot to be, I'm so happy for you, man. Um, it's, it's, uh, it's a great situation for you and, um, you know, things are set up and it's a testament to hard work.
Really is Sam. I mean, just keep your head down, keep, keep going and, and, and you get an opportunity and you, you knock the door down and I wish you the best of luck. Appreciate it. Rich truly. You got it.
Same to you. And you know, you look at the schedule, Sam, you're, you're going to see a lot of old fame places. You got the Niners to kick it off and then you got the, you know, um, the Vikings are on your schedule, um, as well, uh, the Buccaneers, you're going to see an old draft friend back in the day, as I mentioned. Um, my gosh, uh, it's, it's, it's, it's really fun when it's on there, man, it is. And you know, and you know, it's a tough place for the visitors to come, um, you know, there in Seattle then, and that's part of the reason why you'd be, why you're there is they saw you go in and, and, and win that game against them in a pretty tough late season moment. Both teams had to have it.
So that could be it. Yeah, no, this, this crowd's unbelievable too. Like the fans here, every time I come play here, it's, it's an unbelievable atmosphere. So, um, to be able to finally, uh, be on the, you know, the right side of that is, is going to be great. Excellent. You've had a, you've gotten a free meal yet walking into a spot, Sam?
No, no, I haven't. Okay. No, we got to work on it.
It's unfortunate. Oh no, we're going to work on it. We're going to work on it.
We'll, we'll, we'll help. I don't need a rich. I don't need a free meal, man. I'm good.
I guess that's the, I guess that's the media guy in me. I'm, I'm free. Stuff is always great. I mean, I'll take it. Oh, it is. It is great, but you know, it's, I'm not going to be like, Hey, I need, what are you guys doing here?
Like you guys like quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. Like I should be getting a free meal. What do you get? What are we talking about here? Yeah. That's not on brand for you.
I agree. That's probably, do you do that quite a bit? All the time. I pull it.
Do you know who I am? Thing and then pay for my own parking. It doesn't work. It's kind of crazy.
I mean, you know, here in Los Angeles, you pay for your own parking and you're really digging it. Yeah. You got to, got to get it validated. Okay.
Got to get it. Thank you, Sam. I will write that down. Appreciate it.
Uh, take your, take care of yourself. Let's do it again soon. Thanks again, man. Yeah. Awesome.
Appreciate it. Sam Darnold, everybody. The Seattle Seahawks here on the Rich Eisen Show. Can I just clarify that Rich is not going out looking for a freebie, not a parking, not in the restaurant. I heard that. I'm like, Oh God, that's that joke landed a little flat, a little flat.
I'm just saying there's none of that happening in the Schuster Eisen household. That said, Tom Douglas restaurants in Seattle. I'm just telling you right now, Sam Darnold, get there. That is the greatest chef in the Northwest. I love Seattle so much. One of my favorite places. I used to go all the time when there were the Sonics, what a bummer. But anyway, that's where he should go.
One of my favorite places to visit. So there you go. Exima isn't always obvious, but it's real. And so is the relief from Evglis. Can you tell me the story, the famous story of you noticing John Candy in the crowd before that two minute drill, the Bengals and your second Super Bowl win over against him? Yeah, it was, you know, it was, it was kind of funny because as you know, TV timeouts are forever in the Super Bowl.
Tell me about it. So I had been to the sideline once, maybe even twice, and we were just standing out there waiting for the signal to start to play. We were, I think we had the ball in the eight and Harris Barton was a people person. So we were free for dinner during the week, but, you know, practice and meetings and then come back after dinner and more meetings. So when he would come back from dinner, he was like a little kid.
He could not wait to tell you about all the celebrities he saw while he was at dinner. And so I had, we were just standing there and between the tight end and his shoulder was a frame, John Kennedy in the crowd. He was on the sideline. Oh, he's on the sideline. And so I was, and I sat there and I, I looked at it, I go, dang, I don't remember Harris saying he saw John candy in the Super Bowl with minutes to go and needing to, to drive down the field.
Okay. And so I walked over and said, Hey, age, man, there's John candy. And he, Harris stood like this for eight minutes, perfectly still, he was a little bit anal that way. He would not move. He was like, I didn't do it to unwind him. I just thought he would appreciate John candy, but he started mumbling some things, I don't know what he said completely. I understood a few words, but now when you, he appreciates it now more than he did before we started the drive, did you ever meet candy or that was the only thing I had met John a few years before that, um, my contract was up and he was, you know, one of the owners of the Toronto Argonauts, he was trying to get me to go to Canada, they just didn't have enough money.
But if the price was right, I might've had, I might've been wearing an Argonaut 55 yard line. Like I'll do that. So he legitimately said, you know, Hey, you know, we had a couple of meetings about, yeah, you did. So this is real. Like it wasn't just like an old, by the way, no, no, no, no, I love that.
Back here on the Rich Eisen show, Susie Schuster in for Rich Eisen. And I think you have a lot of bad ideas, but what's, what is wrong with the idea of having a third dog? If you have three kids, shouldn't you have three dogs so that each kid has a dog to sleep with?
Each dog has a kid to walk. All right, hold on. Let's, let's, let's try audience. Let me share this.
Let's take this from the top. May we please show a picture of Brady, the dog, do you have that available? Okay. So this is Brady, the dog. He is a nine year old, a great Pyrenees, my friend, Steph's dog. Okay. He's also 150 pounds. I love him so much.
I can't sleep at night. We have two rescue golden retrievers. Brady is a rescue great Pyrenees from the wonderful wags and walks rescue here in Los Angeles. Okay. He is a, what do you, what are you smirking at him? Nothing, nothing. I'm just, I'm just letting you, letting you finish. Let me finish. Thank you, Chris. That's so nice of you to let me finish problem.
He's awesome. And I want a third dog and Chris thinks it's a bad idea. And I said, you're full of bad ideas. So why would I believe the thing that you say? I think a third dog is a great idea. I think you should go out and rescue. I'm just saying don't buy dogs.
Just adopt them. Look at Brady. He's perfect. We see Brady again.
He's also named for Tom Brady because his mom, Steph is a massive Michigan fan. So I think he's the perfect fit for our house. Chris. Wait, you found him? No, he's my friend. He's my friend's dog.
It's her friend's dog. So he was found walking down the street in Modesto out there. Are you kidnapping him?
So it's kind of like he broke out of jail and now he's staying out, right? So she, wow, guys, wait till I tell you that she's leaving him with us because her dad died. I hope you feel bad now, but he's been, he's been at our house for 10 days. He did wake me up barking at three in the morning, looking at some coyotes, I think. But that's another conversation.
That's him just looking out. Why wouldn't I want to have three dogs earlier that if you get this, there would be one dog for each of your kids to sleep with. Yeah, because Halo sleeps with Taylor. Dogs don't belong in your bed. Are you out of your mind? What's wrong with you? Dogs are dirty and disgusting and you're going to bring that into your bed. You're dirty and disgusting and serious sleeps with you.
Great. I take a shower before every night before I go to bed. Do the, does the dog take a bath before it gets in bed with you guys? Number one, our dogs have their own beds. Number two, do they sleep in your bed when they want to, which is what every night?
No. Dylan comes in at quarter or six every morning and lets us know that she's awake. This is, this is, I think a lot of people need to hear this still. Where's my camera here.
The same place has been for just like you said to me last week. How many times have you done this show? It's, it's, it's, it's performative. Stop letting your animal run your life. 8 4 4 2 0 4 Rich. Is Chris a jackass or not?
This is the dumbest take and you've had so many takes that I don't agree with, but this is a bad take. Your dog should not sleep in your bed? Your dog, why can't your dog sleep up on your bed?
8 4 4 2 0 4 Rich is the number to call. Do you like sleeping in filth? Cause that's what the dog does. Your dogs are filthy. They're not filthy. They must get a bath every two weeks and it wipes them down. Are you bathing them every two weeks? 8 4 4 2 0 4 Rich is the number to call.
I'm here. And while you're at it, stop letting them like lick you in your mouth too. That's weird too. They have cleaner mouths than we do. They do. That is actually not true. It is true. Are you a vet?
Are you? It's like the biggest, TJ I'll say it for you. It's the biggest white person thing ever to let a dog into your mouth. I couldn't say it. Into your mouth. I couldn't say it. Not into your mouth.
White people. Stop doing that. Into your mouth? Yeah. Lick you in your mouth. That's disgusting. Do you kiss your dog? That is putting the whole dog into your mouth.
Yeah. And you let the dog into your bed so you're sleeping in the dog, in the filth, in your own bed? Am I just blowing your mind right now or did you know all this already and you choose to do it consciously?
First of all, I don't think you could blow my mind with how inane this take is. You're ridiculous. Of course, I kiss my dog on the nose. That's the nose. Not in her mouth. What? I mean, nobody kisses their dog in their mouth, dummies.
This is crazy. Are you kidding me? In their mouth? You must have seen people letting dogs lick, lick, lick, lick inside their mouth. Not inside their mouth.
They might close their mouths and they might, but no, they're not. Come on, TJ. I know what I've seen. Okay. I've seen it. Do you? I mean, I don't participate in that. The general answer to this question is no, a dog's mouth is not technically clean.
It is not actually cleaner than a human mouth. Guys, if you're out there, 844-204-RICH, this is ridiculous. Just call and tell me. Is there a vet out there who can tell us that I'm right? I will get a vet on the phone in the third hour. So much more Rich Eisen Show when we come back, if we're still back.
I care about you, Suze. We go way back. Stop letting your dog in your bed. No. It's disgusting. No.
Do you want to call her? Because I can't. He's such a bald bastard. I want the record to stay. I mean, you're amazing.
Josh Gad was talking about Michael Chip. That's not me. Brandon in St. Louis.
Packers win-loss. Also, do you let your dog on your bed or not? No. You said sleep in your bed. Brandon. It's my show.
Be quiet. Brandon, do you let the dog up in your bed or not? I don't, but we have a Bernese Mountain dog who is the size of a dire wolf.
Yeah, we do have cats and the hair is disgusting. Yeah. Well, I'm not a cat person, so I'm not going to argue that, but with a Bernese, I mean, they go where they want to go.
They're big. Oh, yeah. So, he'll take over the bed if he wants.
I mean, even when he's a puppy, he never was on our bed, so I'm fine with it. I don't know. I'm kind of with Brockman on this one. Thank you, sir. You're a good man.
I mean, bad connection. You're a good man. You're a good man.
You're a good man. All right. Let's get ready. We've got a minute to go.
Ready? Week one. Home for the Lions. When? Week two.
Washington commanders on a Thursday. When? Week three at the Browns. When? Week four at the Cowboys. When? Week five.
Buy at home. Week six. Bengals at home. When? Week seven at the Cardinals. When? Week eight at the Steelers.
That's going to be our first spot, ironically. Aaron Rodgers, yes or no? Yeah.
Yeah. Week eight at home. That's a win. Week 10. Eagles at home on a Monday.
Definitely a loss. Week 11 at the Giants. That's a win. Week 12. Vikings at home. That's a win. Week 13 at the Lions on Thanksgiving. That's going to be a loss. Week 14.
Bears. It's going to be a win. Week 15 at the Broncos. A win. Week 16 at the Bears on a Saturday.
That's also a win. Going to get the sweep. Week 17. Ravens at home on a Saturday. It's going to be a loss.
Week 18 at the Vikings. That's going to be a loss. All right, Brandon.
I don't agree with you about the dogs, but I still appreciate you calling in. Much more rich eyes than Joe. Much more rich eyes than Joe when we come back. Wow. Don't agree. Don't agree.
I don't agree. I think, oh, Patrick from Napa. Don't go anywhere because we will take your call. He's got three dogs that sleep in his bed, and I really think that Patrick and I are going to have a connection here. And not in your dirty minds like you guys with, what was his name? Corbin. Corbin. Corbin.
Whose girlfriend is coming over for his birthday? Look, that was Corbin. That wasn't us. You guys have dirty minds. Much more rich eyes than Joe when we come back, you guys. I'm going to send Smitch some pictures. Get ready, Smitch. They're coming your way.
