The NFL draft is approaching, and teams are making moves to secure their quarterback positions. The Raiders have signed Geno Smith, while the Chargers are considering drafting Ashton Gente. Meanwhile, the 49ers are making sneaky moves to become a top team in the NFC West. In the NBA, coaches are being fired left and right, including Michael Malone of the Denver Nuggets. The importance of safety on the road is also highlighted, with a focus on avoiding distractions while driving.

Man we're so close to this draft as you know Mel Kiper's got a new 4.0 mock draft. He's coming uh uh we'll reveal that uh in hour three. By the way when I say reveal it's as if it's ours to reveal.
It's already out. No. We'll go over it. We're literally just commenting on it. Listen I'm sorry the coconut milk is off.
My bad. Um so yeah we'll reveal our thoughts. Okay we'll do that. Please for the love of God. Yeah so um he will be uh uh we'll talk about his his mock draft coming up in hour number three. So the reason why I'm bringing all this up now is there were two teams last year quarterback needy for sure and there were six quarterbacks taking in the first 12 picks of what I think everyone believes is one of the deeper quarterback draft pools that we've seen in quite some time and and difficult to say that just after one year of results and one of the players didn't play at all last year and JJ McCarthy coming off of a knee injury sure looks like he's going to get his opportunity this year. Michael Penix Jr. did not seem to be shying away from the crazy situation that he was put in. Hey uh rookie uh you you're now starting in the final month of the season and we need you to help us make the playoffs like that that is and we're benching the guy that we gave a 40 million dollar a year contract to uh to give you that opportunity. Didn't seem like he shied away from it um and then you see the top three picks everybody is what um did uh McDaniel's use the word smitten? He's smitten with he's smitten with Drake May. That's what he said yes. We all know uh that Caleb Williams who is who is speaking today because the Bears off-season workout program is beginning today or this week um there's a lot of optimism with Ben Johnson being there right now and um Bo Nix the final quarterback taken in the first round almost won the would have been rookie of the year if it wasn't for Jaden Daniels or let's put it this way he would have been the quarterback in position to win rookie of the year if it wasn't for Jaden Daniels and the reason why I say that is because Brock Bowers despite the Raiders being one of the teams that went into the draft last year needing a quarterback didn't get one Brock Bowers still broke records even with what a a quarterback situation as we say in in the business uh three different starters and um and the inconsistencies and the difficulties and all of that stuff whatever you want to say uh did cost Antonio Pierce's job. The other team that came through without a quarterback was the Giants who are now third overall on the clock they didn't blow out their coach and general manager they are quarterback needy coming into this year's draft and they're sitting there third overall Raiders sitting there sixth overall and the reason again why I bring all this up is only one of those two teams removed themselves from having the pressure of having to get a quarterback with their first overall selections this year in the first round and the reason why you have to take the pressure off is because number one if Cam Ward is the best quarterback to be drafted he's going number one to the Tennessee Titans meaning are you going to take Chador Sanders third overall if you're the Giants sixth overall if you're the Raiders and if you have any questions about whether that's a prudent maneuver or if it's too much of a reach he's a he's a ball patter yada yada yada then you need to do something to remove yourself from maybe reaching and the Raiders did that the Giants tried boy did they try they were all in on boy did they try they were all in on Matthew Stafford they were all in on Rogers and it does appear both of these gentlemen well one of them in the rare the Rams told them no thanks and the Giants went ahead and got Russell Wilson now you could say that that takes the pressure off of taking somebody third overall maybe I still think that keeps them in the Chador Sanders game and you could say the same thing for Geno Smith being brought into Vegas but Geno as much as you want to say and this is kind of crazy that they're two it's funny that the quarterbacks were talking about were in the same quarterback room for Pete Carroll in his final days in Seattle in the same way that the quarterback room for the last year's Steelers are now your starters at MetLife Stadium that's crazy isn't it crazy um but Geno Smith and I will say this again folks you know a two-year 75 million dollar deal in Vegas after the Raiders acquire him from Seattle where apparently Seattle was trying to sign him to less money than what he just signed one would think in Vegas he said no and they're like okay see ya we'll give less money to Sam Darnold we'll get younger at the position we'll pay the position less we'll run the ball more and go forward there but Geno despite last year being a down year don't forget he was the comeback player of the year the year before what he was coming back from was the bench not getting opportunities and last year he was fourth in yards he threw for 4,000 yards last year and he was fifth in completion percentage and the Raiders have not had somebody with his stability and his ability at the quarterback spot since one would say the year that Derek Carr took him to the playoffs when my boy Mayock was the GM there and Rich Spasaccio was one of the best interim head coaches we've seen in quite some time the facts they they nearly took Cincinnati out the year that Cincinnati made the Super Bowl so this is stability and what the the Raiders need is stability and they need a guy who's buying in and they need a guy who's not only buying in but he's going to get others to buy in when their new head coach is coming in Geno was introduced as the new quarterback of the Raiders on Monday it's a great way to put it I think there is unfinished business and I think you know when when people think about my story you know coach Carroll was a big part of that you know he gave me an opportunity when not many people would have and he saw you know the hard work that I was putting in he saw the things behind the scenes that I that I do that allowed me to get this opportunity but um to be able to play for him and again to be a part of this organization it means everything to myself and my family uh I was just telling him I run through a wall for him and he knows that and um I'll do the same for my teammates and for this organization and so I just want that to be um you know kind of who I am and I want that to be the statement of who I am as the quarterback of this team I'm gonna say that I might hit that wall before you get there I've seen it yeah 34 year old Geno Smith next to the 73 year old Pete Carroll and and um I know Pete is done here in his age associated with him but at some point you know the Raiders needed to move I have to say it does it feel to you like there's like adults in the room for the Raiders in a way that we haven't seen uh yeah I think that a while that's putting it that's putting it a certain way but yeah I don't think that's wrong yeah stability it just seems like this is the the way we're going to do it and it's going to be more stable and that alone is a win we're done churning through coaches and front offices and quarterbacks like the last three four years we're done with it we're done with it I'm not calling Josh McDaniel as a child or an obviously Gruden but there's been a lot of a lot of dysfunction in the last few right and then Brady is in the ownership suite and Carroll's in the coaching spot and Geno Smith is in the um quarterback room and it sure looks like the quarterback room could very well be him with a a a youngin no doubt and if Chidoor is sitting there at second or sixth overall you know I I think that's an Ashton Gente spot where you get that kid and you bring him to Vegas with Geno and Geno's again he's 34 how I mean Stafford's in his late 30s and he's the guy in you know Los Angeles for a reason but again Brady has that rapport and that relationship with Chidoor so I will see I I I you know Tom you might have a relationship with Chidoor but when it comes to like what's better for the team yeah well what I'm saying is Tom works out with him he he knows more so than anyone what that kid can do with a football in his hand so if he feels confident again I just I I understand the Bears who are opening things up today with Ben Johnson that's the shiny object not Pete but Pete is a pretty damn shiny object in his own right no doubt yeah and what he could do is not flash but attitude and stability and you know what you're going to get you know what his teams are like you understand it and the guy who knows it more than anybody else is the guy who he gave an opportunity to to play football and Geno Smith and he went and acquired Geno for a very important part of of his career and I think it's going to pay off and I think it's going to pay off now their own their problem is that they're in a division that had three playoff teams in it last year right including Patrick Mahomes so we'll see how much they can get up to speed but signing Max Crosby as well just to keep him is pretty amazing it's a Tuesday in which we did the overreaction Monday podcast which means only one thing oh it's time for over action Monday on a Tuesday overreaction Monday podcast which means only one thing oh it's time for over action Monday on a Tuesday that was terrible that was crap that was garbage this place sucks overreaction Monday's Monday on a Tuesday all right very good very good very good go for it hey everybody good how you guys doing I'm great doing good what's up Chris you have your smoothie good yeah that's a second bite at that after like I told you I'm okay do you have like a special case for the rakish hat or do you just throw it on like what's the storage like when you travel with the head yeah if you must know I must that's why I asked yes we must it's it's not easy to travel with because normally we need its own box okay so I wear it on I wear it on the plane people on the dome all right do you get to the crib like and I rested on my lap do you get weird looks no when you when you get to I don't get weird looks I don't get weird looks you know why because I look good in it no I just mean rakish in it how do you store it when you get home is it just on the top of the closet enough guys guys guys focus I'm here it's dark it's too quiet on the draft front it is it's too quiet someone's gonna move up into the top 10 we can only hope I got a top five later on of teams that should trade into the top five but I I'm not seeing it man I mean quiet Mayock said on Monday that he thinks that uh Chador is gonna drop out of the top 10 and that um that's not a bad thing for him because that means as is the the further he drops the better the teams to draft him would be um and on top of that if nobody is gonna trade up to go get him who are you gonna trade up to go get instead so Gente I mean like that's that that's why you're not seeing too many teams burst into the top five or top 10 and I'm sure at this point in time um the teams in the top five top 10 are are asking for too much so sure someone's gonna trade into the top 10 it it invariably happens I will say yes but how about this I'll say it will happen during the draft okay that we're not gonna get one of those after we see what the top three look like because there's no reason unless somebody wants to trade to number two where you know who you're gonna get like there's too much uncertainty right now like last year you knew if you traded into the fourth spot with Arizona you were going to get the best player that's not a quarterback right if you traded into the third spot you knew you were gonna get Drake May you traded in the second spot you don't get Jayden Daniels if you trade in the first spot you see where I'm going with it but none of those teams Chicago Washington New England were willing to trade out because they wanted to get the quarterbacks they wanted and Arizona stuck and picked Marvin Harrison Jr this year there's too much uncertainty so I it's gonna be like however the draft plays out then someone will move when then they're certain they're gonna get the person they want yeah but I'll just say that's not an overreaction what's next rich we were just talking about this team and I really think they could be they could be the AFC sleeper this year if the Raiders draft Ashton Gente they're going to the playoffs the autumn wind comes from the blue turf of Idaho maybe we're overvaluing Denver a little bit maybe there's a little sophomore slump for bone knicks I don't think so uh have the Chargers done enough this off season how dare you that's Jim Harbaugh's team and you know Kansas City look a little uh absurd positively insane you're crazy maybe the Raiders are right get out of here slide in be that 7 16 seed in the AFC how about this they draft Ashton Gente they'll they'll they'll be playing for a playoff spot I'm not willing to commit to making it Bengals are going to be better you know someone else we we don't know the Bengals are going to be better they will be we don't know yeah I think we we could say I'd bet on it if I was a betting man yeah we don't know I just think it's it's it's a that's a tall order for them to make the playoffs tough but they will be vastly improved and I think this would be a great way to improve it what else uh last night I was with a certain 49er friend of ours and uh he big fan of overreaction Monday and he was like Al was it Al uh it was our good friend Kevin Pollock and he and he was like he was like what's up Kevin look I got something for you I'm like oh I'm all ears what do you got is this a Kevin Pollock Kevin Pollock overreaction Monday on a Tuesday special should you read it like Christopher Walker I don't think I want to venture into those waters okay I will say though I'll do it for you this is what he thinks and I like it and I like it lieutenant Weinberg came out with this I like it okay the 49ers are not rebuilding John Lynch playing rope-a-dope on the rest of the NFC what does that mean playing rope it what is and I knew that's what you would say back does that mean and I said what do I say when he says what does this mean oh so okay I I again I know you and he said look all these moves you think they're kind of in a rebuild maybe they're just kind of laying low yeah trimming the fat Deebo see ya okay Jordan Mason week and you know what I mean nice season yes ultimately not the answer yes uh our wide receiver room sneaky good with Pierre Saul and Jawan Jennings I agree on that as long as McCaffrey's healthy they're begging someone to take Iook off their hands that's not gonna happen right right defense still I got it so what does rope-a-dope mean rope-a-dope just means you think we're doing this kind of like the Rams like we thought the Rams were rebuilding the last couple years I buy this and they ended up being a place you know I'm gonna buy this boom 49ers sneaky NFC West going to James next Rock Purdy signed in with everybody saying he didn't deserve the money that he's gonna get and everybody looking at the names of the defense from back of the day these guys are gone yeah like Denver got Greenlaw and Hifunga you know and um and Jordan Mason they shipped him out to uh Minnesota and we're seeing how this team isn't this or that or whatever they're still the 49ers rather be here early getting ready get ready guys then a year late okay if that's if that's yes that if if what Kevin is saying okay if what Kevin is saying is that this team is not on the outs and screwed over that they are gonna be sneaking up on people 11 draft picks coming up in two weeks I buy it I buy it okay and I and I I appreciate that right there from Kevin Pollock 49ers okay I'm not not a 49er basher like everyone thinks in the comments okay all right good job here's the deal let's look at off football let's let's do a couple hodgepodge ones here I'm watching this NCAA championship game I watched the final four over the weekend is from anybody or this is yours are we back to you this is we're back to me okay we're back to me the NCAA tournament needs this guy at the comedy store last night yeah that's right he was talking my ear up in the hallway okay the the NCAA tournament needs to expand to at least 96 teams to make it more interesting this was the worst tournament that I can remember and the last couple just because the last two games were good they were great it was the one of the best final fours we've seen in quite some time doesn't mean the other 61 games were any good yeah but you weren't watching 61 games just because we watched all of it just because your two three matchup zone didn't make it doesn't mean that the thing sucked it was bad if you know if you take a poll of if this tournament was entertaining or not it was not entertaining numbers were up number one and number two the final four was scintillating the four seeds the four top seeds made it and gave you three terrific basketball but that doesn't make up for the other 60 games that were garbage they weren't garbage oh the margin of victory there's no star power let's get some more teams in here let's get more upset there were few there were fewer shining moments I didn't see the montage because I decided not to stay up till midnight let's expand more team not at all no thank you overreaction chance I'm with you I mean I wouldn't make that childlike noise but I mean you wouldn't so I do it for you thank you because I know what you're thinking all right fine all right a little NBA here no wonder we didn't get nominated stop it ha neither one seed's gonna make the finals what the coconut milk was off with the enemies neither one seed is making the NBA finals what neither one seed is making the NBA finals okay see kind of rattled me a little bit against the Lakers the other day and look no one thinks the Cavs are going all the way so look neither one seed makes no I think the you know I think you're off on this I think the Cavs make it oh so the Cavs beat the seas uh maybe I don't know if the seas even make it wow okay you're just trying to get me fired up yeah but uh if you have to if you have to how about this neither one she's gonna make it no I think the Cavs make it and uh I think it LeBron versus the Cavs just for fun how about that goes the ghost of David Stern is uh putting his thumb on the scale David Stern why would that be the ghost of David Stern because he's in the fixing things why would that be a fix it's not a fix excuse me if David Stern could fix it it would be the Lakers against the Celtics right come on okay let me break I mean and you know don't you with all the respect to all of our friends in Cleveland you know in Stark County Ohio where LeBron from from where LeBron hails things were fixable if you really want to be mixed Lakers hit it might make me think we need one more maybe guys are you surprised here's the deal okay and if Rory doesn't win the Masters this year it's never gonna happen all right uh just like this is it are you sure no let's want two massive events heading in his game's never been better it's been Scheffler's a little banged up pal live guys who knows it's been 10 years since he won a major I believe aware of that because I bet on him every single major that is true so if he doesn't do it now it will never happen it's not gonna happen it's not gonna happen he's never playing better he's hot coming in you see I have it here it's not it now's the time yeah uh-huh now's the time bro yeah come on if he wins though he would join Tiger Jack Gary player Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen is the only golfers to get the grand slam complete the grand slam he is missing the Masters and he has not won a major in 10 years it would be the long it's it's the sixth longest span between wins by a player in a major championship if he wins this one I will just push back for you Chris I'm going to save you from yourself and say this is an overreaction but best of luck for you thank you on the Rory rootin train well done overreaction Monday on a National Football League Tarib still good to see you how are you uh thank you I'm doing good I really appreciate the opportunity to come on the show and talk to you guys you got it absolutely Sicklerville New Jersey is that where you're from yes sir looked it up I'm looking at I'm looking at a lot of water parks in the area maybe a few maybe a few is that is that is that what your your area is known for is a bunch of water parks probably some around the area not too close but uh really known for the beach that's like 30 minutes away no from the beach yeah okay yeah I'm looking at this right now Diggerland is that something like that I feel like that used to be like Sahara Sam's okay like a water park no there's one here it is there it is yeah I'm looking at that right now a bunch of very happy looking kids in tubes very good okay and you're from Livingston New Jersey right there you go north jersey and you're from south jersey pretty much yeah okay so does that mean you grew up an Eagles fan or something like that uh so what does this mean funny story I didn't I have a lot of family that like the Eagles because obviously it's close to area but I really grew up watching the Falcons a lot of Julio Jones oh so uh I was a big fan of them but then like as I started to get older and older I just started to watch football just for just to watch it for the fun of it okay didn't really support a team so to say okay so you you liked Julio Jones amidst a bunch of Eagles fans is what you're saying I supported the Eagles a little bit but I I would say back then I was a Falcons fan did you ever go to Lincoln financial you ever go to the game oh I've been a couple games yeah okay all right and so but now you're you're southern California yeah now I'm just superchargers you're superchargers you're you're Los Angeles superchargers all right and then they're across the way which it makes it in did you come from over there to come over here oh actually I came from my house I'm gonna go there after this okay very good yeah we're convenient very convenient yeah on the way we're we're on the way it's a convenient stop on the way we got back here on the Rich Eisen Show on the Rich Eisen Show radio network sitting here at the Rich Eisen Show desk furnished by Grainger with supplies and solutions for every industry Grainger has the right product for you call clickrainder.com or just stop by he was the fifth round selection in last year's draft out of Maryland from the Los Angeles Chargers our television audience and radio audience together saying hello to Tariq still right here on the program and so where were you on your draft night where were you I was actually at my grandma's house I was in the basement I had family there just in in Jersey yeah okay yeah a lot of close people that supported me and it was kind of nerve-wracking just sitting there waiting trying to figure out Thursday night through Friday night yeah okay just playing the waiting game and then Saturday goes yeah it's actually it happened really early on Saturday right it was like the second pick of the fifth round so I wasn't waiting for too long but it still felt like a really long time so whose phone rang your phone rang yeah okay and who was on it um so actually uh Joe Ortiz the GM he called me yeah um but once I seen the uh the area code yes I was like oh California okay yeah so then did he hand the phone to Jim he handed the phone to him I talked to Coach Harbaugh for a little bit and then uh I also got in the phone with Coach Minner I talked to him yes uh and then I think maybe Coach Klink was on the phone for a few okay and then uh yeah it was a pretty good moment to spend around my family yeah and you know most of those people you were talking to on the phone were people whose days you attempted to wreck I'm sure when you were at Maryland uh yeah definitely for sure you know uh tell me about your your before we get to the here and now uh your journey to Maryland like how did you wind up there um so really uh growing up uh playing football high school really played a lot of receiver um and then I started playing more db started getting more offers yes um I started taking visits college visits my grandma told me I couldn't go far from home so uh then I started looking at schools that were closer um Coach Loxley had just got the job at Maryland I went down there I visited him I liked the environment I liked where it was at the location of the people around it wasn't too far from home and it just felt like that that's the place where I needed to be uh also uh like the people that was coming in with that class uh great guys um so it really all just made sense for me so then I ended up choosing Maryland uh switching from receiver to db yeah um why do that uh so really uh I was always told like playing receiver you gotta rely on a lot of things that happen for you to get the ball but me really I was just uh trying to find any way I could play any way I can get on the field and then my high school coach always told me like uh like playing db would also lead me to like a better path later on because uh obviously everyone wants to score touchdowns and things like that but really I just wanted to do what will work for me and uh really what I could excel at so um I really just switched to db and it's been going good well I mean you know the the idea that people go from receiver to db is because they can't catch you know like that you've heard that scenario I'm sure definitely exactly so you I would imagine you push back from that that notion not yeah um I have uh well people say I have good ball skills like I'm able to track the ball catch the ball things like that so uh I don't think me switching from receiver to db was uh was that the inability to catch I would just say uh it's knowing what's gonna happen feel for routes things like that yeah and I think you're right like the receiver is clearly the most ball dependent position on offense right you know the running back just gets it right there from the quarterback you have to run your route the defense has got to be in a certain scenario you have to read your defense you got to make sure the quarterback also has enough time to throw and that's not in your control there's a lot of non-controllables which is why I think in all honesty a lot of receivers are talkers because they literally have to speak up to say I'm here I'm open get me the ball and on defense there's a lot more of what you can control to get the ball right like I kind of picked up on that I would just say the defense is really um well obviously you have to know the scheme know the know what you're doing and where to be but uh ultimately it's really just uh make a play on the ball uh you don't have to rely on someone trying to throw the ball to you or go get the ball it's really just just tackle the guy that has the ball or stop the guy from catching it so you know and and speaking again as a Michigan Wolverine um Maryland is always the game before Ohio State the week before Ohio State and and I I you know Loxley scares me as a Michigan fan because I really like him I really like the he's smart and he's got you guys whipped up and he's got you guys focused and um that is always a scary game for me as a Wolverine fan and I know Loxley did uh interview with the Jets this year for their open position so I'm wondering what you what you like about him what you think makes him a great coach um I would just say uh coach Lox he really understands his players he relates to him and uh he really wants to see uh everybody win whether it's either next level football or whether it's in life so uh he always preaches to graduate get your degree and then he um he really just wants to see guys win he does a lot for him he puts a lot of time into it and then he also has a lot of uh resources available for us we had like a mentorship program so he put us with mentors with uh really successful people in the business world or like their dentists or just just a lot of different fields who did he hook you out with so my guy his name is uh Sean Murphy so uh he's really into tech like IT stuff um so I still talk to him to this day um I actually just seen him recently at a Maryland basketball game right but um it's really just building relationships that will last uh pass football pass whether like it's the NFL just throughout life so you can fix our computers here um I'm not that good yet just didn't know I mean right now you're in the you're in the Chargers genius bar right now um so your favorite Jim Harbaugh story please deliver it to me uh see I got a lot but um even in just one year huh yeah because because Harbaugh is different like um I would just say he's different in a good way though because he's himself he's always going to be himself no matter what time it is and then he's really just he's just coach Carball 24 7. I mean I love the guy to death uh but I would say my favorite story I might have told this before though but go for it it was just a random day where we have a team meeting so uh we're all in the team meeting in the morning and he's like um I woke up at 3 a.m and I was staring at the ceiling I was thinking today's not just any day it's today and like everybody's laughing and all that so I was laughing you know things like that but like once you really think about it like it's not just any day it's today so like what are you going to do with it how are you going to maximize it how are you going to take a step to move forward to achieve what you want to do so I would say his his uh his stories or his lessons sound cheesy but they have real uh real things or real meanings behind them has there anything uh that he said required interpretation for you where some of the guys in the room were like what what are you just saying and then you all had to get together to discuss the meaning of it I would say that happens kind of a lot like he says a lot of a lot of stuff you know the guy's like what does that mean and then like you know we'll be talking about the rest of the day and then we'll get to the bottom of it we'll figure out what he means and it's like oh that really makes sense but I mean a lot of times he really just speaks from the heart he speaks on how he feels because uh he he really just wants to help a lot of people he wants to see people win stuff like that so he really just finds different ways to relate to people or different stories or different messages that uh can touch different people how do you think that translates to a successful season like you guys had last year now obviously it was your first year in the NFL so you don't have a frame of reference about the previous year but you know it didn't go very well so they that's why the Chargers were fifth over on the clock last year but now you're coming off of a playoff birth season right how did that translate to wins do you think um I would just say um when people talk about culture uh I would say that's really real with the Chargers because that's something that he uh I wouldn't it's something that's like an action like he puts it in action like uh it's like our habits our behaviors things like that but then really just the the vibe around the building the energy everybody has and then everybody's all alone on the court there's no there's like it's all transparent everybody knows what's going on um there's a lot of communication and then really uh I would say our veteran players uh they really buy in and then it's like from the top down so if our veteran players and the best players on our team are bought in and they're following everything that kotar ball wants us to do then everybody else just follows them so uh really I would just say it starts from the top um and then really guys like Justin Herbert Khalil Mack Derwin James uh guys like that really just great leaders so um coach Harbaugh gives them the message and uh gets them to be on board with what we want to do and then everybody else just follows them so um I think it's a really good system that we have and uh he puts a lot of trust in the players so um that's why I think it really works have you picked off Herbert in practice definitely definitely how much that's my guy though how many times how many times a few see Justin Justin's a good guy though uh I remember one time uh I picked him off early on when I first got up here we were in Costa Mesa um he came to me in the locker room he was like now you're gonna have to do it again to me and he's gonna come at me again and throw the ball at me again so um he's a super competitor um that's what I like about Justin he's about his business but um to answer your question I definitely have you didn't stutter uh but it's so he came up to you and used that moment to challenge you to get better yes that's what you're saying definitely that's leadership I can only imagine what it's like to have Khalil Mack walk in a room for you right and then Derwin James on top of it what's the the best or the most important thing that you picked up in your rookie season whether it's from them or just in general about you learning your craft um I would really just be like staying ready because um knowing that it's a long season yes there's a lot of games a lot of things can happen so I'm really just being ready when the opportunity is there and then maximizing your opportunity because uh you never know what can happen you never know how the season is going to go you never know what role you're going to get shifted into and then really just understanding where to be and when to be there and then the biggest thing I would say uh like coach Minner always tells me like don't chase plays like don't try to force plays to happen because like within the defense that we run or within any defense uh guys certain guys are schemed up to make the play so don't try to chase plays or force things to happen that's when uh bad things happen so really just just be where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be there you'll get the reward for it well I mean you you've lived out a dream of uh of mine and also his over there in Mike Del Tufo fellow New Jerseyite uh maybe anybody else uh and that is you've scored in Yankee Stadium correct oh yeah definitely you took it to the house in the pinstripe bowl correct yeah and I imagine you had most of South Jersey in that building that day to watch you do it probably like 25 people there a lot of people what was that like scoring in Yankee Stadium home it was kind of crazy because uh that whole year that was my first year on part return so I'm catching punts I'm getting like five six seven yards uh not fair catching getting blown up like a lot of crazy stuff is happening so I would just tell myself like when is it like when is the breakthrough going to happen when am I going to take one at distance so Yankee Stadium we're playing Virginia Tech pinstripe bowl uh we get a stop on defense they kick me the ball I just catch it and then I didn't like my body just moved to the right I moved like I missed the first guy he missed me I don't know how and then after that like if you really look at the play there was great blocking so I got a shout out my teammates just like great great blocking I just all I had to do was not get tackled and just run but like once I scored I still couldn't really believe it it didn't really seem real but then like after the game you know once you see it on the internet and stuff like that yeah but uh in the moment it was like wow punter that's right in Yankee Stadium definitely for someone from New Jersey that's pretty cool yeah that's pretty cool well congrats on everything that's happened uh for you and with you so far say hello to everybody across the way you know yeah tell Jim tell Jim I said hi he's one of my he's one of bring that under the bus by the bus just right now see he didn't even show his face he's but i was willing to wear this hat he had it made up well he told me that the hat that he made up had the final score no he had the hat on there whatever it was a hat i don't know what that the hat is supposed to read the following i am going to listen to this okay hear this yes hell to the victors valiant hell to the conquering heroes hell hell to michigan the lead there's and best wow that is for you wow only wow i honestly did not want me to do that i honestly can't have thought of anything else that you would do that would make me think that you would not have to follow through on your end of the wager which is where and i should have gone to michigan hat on the vaunted field of notre dame with touchdown jesus behind you but do i let him out of that end of the bet now he's that was pretty epic actually and he nailed all the words he grew up in the state of michigan he should know them he should know them i mean that was like 30 years ago i had to look him up to make sure i was saying it correctly for you also also i'm getting visions of like jerome practicing before he came out yeah it sounded rehearsed that was great that took a lot out of me you know that that was awesome that was all right all right you know what what it took for me to to say to sing that on national television and radio and we're gonna tweet it out oh yeah don't be there forever yes right now that's something that's gonna be like forever is he oh my phone is buzzing already seeing it and i'm sure it's about that was pretty great that was great jerome very impressive and i would never sing your fight song by the way in a couple years we got a couple years couple years honestly uh i could have a kid right now and he or she could be bar or bach mitzvahed by the time that the next game goes down because notre dame refuses to play my school great rendition of the victors man i don't know about that part no no no that was really terrific yeah i'm sure you're gonna say that of course you were and uh by the end of today by sundown i will have a new ringtone and it's gonna be fantastic when you call me uh buddy jb paying off a bet part of our youtube world youtube.com slash rich eisen show 917 000 subscribers and more growing with each passing day and growing right here on the rich eisen show uh 8 4 4 2 0 4 rich is the number to dial here on the show um that was fun with uh that was really fun i mean just uh what a good kid yeah no he's a he's a he's a great player he's doing well can you imagine scoring your first touchdown in the yankee stadium that's pretty sick i mean we were watching it with him after as he was walking out and he was like what is that like you know he's at the 50-yard line and the whole field just kind of opened up he was right really good blocking on the play oh there is an eye and still but he's a team player don't let the urge to sing along to that catchy tune distract you from that truck drifting towards your lane or that lane splitting biker creeping up beside you because fortunately every hunday offers available class exclusive advanced a bunch of people uh and by a bunch of people meaning everybody um by firing taylor jenkins their longtime coach with nine games to go in the regular season with the memphis grizzlies being right there in the midst of a playoff stretch where playoff run here where the seating is everything and everyone's wondering how in the world do you fire a coach um with nine games to go what do you do well the denver broncos have apparently uh tender tender nuggets have apparently uh told everybody to hold their beer here it comes unbelievable my i see the report is that the nuggets have blown out their coach and general manager shawm saying michael malone's out this is unbelievable he's the winningest coach in the history of the denver nuggets and the general manager calvin booth has been told you too and as you know there's four games left in the regular season they're on a they're on a four game losing streak right now and we just had j billis on an hour one he's flying to sacramento that's right to cover the first game of the post michael malone era and by the way they're just two seasons removed from winning at all what is happening what the hell's going on the nba is becoming the nhl with more and more each passing day how what and this is you know as you know the kronke uh family and organization they're not they don't do things rashly i mean they don't churn through people but how does michael malone get the gate with four games to go in the regular season where they're is it so bad is it so crazy is things just so insane is stuff so untenable that you're you're gonna make this sort of discord happen within if you look at the standings they're riding they're they're four and they're a half game in front of not one not two not three but four teams with the same record and the same number of losses as them they're 47 and 32 and if they lose a significant number of their final four games they can go from hosting a first round surge to playing to playing uh-huh and not just playing in but you know being on the road to play in i don't get it i don't and by the way the team that's in the eighth spot right now are the grizzlies yeah who have won two in a row after losing three straight after bouncing jenkins i don't and by the way they have the best player in the world and jamal murray's coming back and we've seen what this team is capable of in the postseason how do you decide if new voices needed and then you blow out your g well the gm too is just i mean that that's not collateral damage well i mean that's just you're also blowing out your gm right before the two months before the draft right so you need you need new new ideas on that front i guess but i don't i don't get it i don't understand i don't understand it i don't know why teams are now bouncing their coaches who have shown nothing but consistency and wins for two franchises in the final weeks of the season david adelman who is david adelman he's been an assistant since 2017 that son of rick correct son of rick yeah well congrats to him i mean wow oh here's jokic and here's uh a team two years removed from winning it all go win it and i guess what it's going to steve fisher like run yeah i mean speaking of the cronkeys this is the equivalent of the rams firing sean mcveigh and less need in week 16 last year right before the playoffs and they're the four seed and they just won a super bowl years earlier i don't get it i don't understand it it makes no sense obviously it makes sense to you know ownership the governor uh makes sense to them where they had to make this rash move denver nuggets wow okay yeah josh kronke just put out a statement uh you know while the timing of this decision is unfortunate and then he thanks coach unfortunate thanks coach malone for everything it is a necessary step to allow us to compete at the highest level right now championship level standards and expectations remain in place for the current season so you you you remove your championship winning coach right after 10 years in denver after 10 years in order to a necessary step to compete the highest level right now so that that something that means something's going on there's an iceberg as you know we say this all the time there's an iceberg we only see the tip there is something going on there well here's there's one thing we can be sure of unlike a lot of teams chris i'm sure it wasn't joker who was complaining now kevin o'connor covers the nba for yahoo now he said uh booth and malone never liked each other rarely spoke and talked behind each other's backs with the team struggling on the court nuggets ownership decided to fire both see i mean that's wild yeah i mean so there's some dysfunction happening and they just decided just yeah they started to slice it out clean house see you later so both of you are gone let's start fresh fresh fresh faces you're both going to your rooms no i mean or going home yeah wow that's just i don't know that's it doesn't make sense well i mean to just at this time of the year like you couldn't have just let it play out it was it that bad that you had to do really now well if they're talking about each other behind each other's backs well tell tufo and brockman talk about each other behind yeah but it doesn't affect it it doesn't affect exactly what do you do doesn't affect our consistency about that yeah i don't think so you hear them we're not top level every day me and brockman squabble up i've never seen anything like this before this is not like the nhl but the nhl happens like a week before the playoffs not so much with it with a champ one year removed that's crazy with the best player on the planet with the best player on the planet yeah like i said that doesn't like this is like what like the end the oilers just firing their guy right before the playoffs with mcdavid i don't get it well the nba man it's kind of crazy so we got that going that's the the backdrop to the final week of the regular season in which you'd look again at the standings the nuggets and four teams are nuggets and four teams are separated by one half a game that's it same number of loss six teams have 32 losses and the lakers are sitting there two losses in front of them and by the way the lakers take on the thunder again tonight so it's kind of like a playoff series whether we have back-to-back games separated by two days in oklahoma city so every day when we're on the road people around us endanger themselves and others by using their phones while driving they think they're hiding it but we've all seen them and know exactly who they are for instance there is the sneaker peeker who darts their eyes between the road and their texts there's also the got a ticketer looking upset because they just got a ticket for using their phone while driving and what about the fast scroller who can't drive five minutes without updating their social feeds or the nightlighter who has that mysterious glow illuminating the inside of their car after dark do any of these sound familiar if they remind you of yourself or someone you know rethink your behavior before you find yourself becoming the fender benderer the veering off the rotor or worst of all the driver who killed someone put the phone away or pay paid for by nitsa you
