Did you ever wonder? Did you ever wonder?

I do. Did you ever wonder? Why the sun always rises, but the stars never fall?

Why dry land is never satisfied by water? And why fire never says enough? The song of Solomon than it is. The song of songs. And here we see another example of that, just beautifully, in the way that Solomon penned this love story. So, the third verse reads, usually, in the King James Version, Because of the savour of thy good ointments, thy name is an ointment poured forth.

Therefore do the virgins love you. So, you may know that the word Christ is the Greek way of saying Messiah. And, of course, the word Messiah itself, in Hebrew, means the anointed one. So, whether you're saying Christ or whether you're saying Messiah, you're still making reference to his anointing, which is one of the beautiful things to study in the Bible, is when was Jesus anointed? And, you know, I love to look at all the different ways he was anointed and all the different places he was anointed.

I'm sure you're familiar with the story of the Mary that broke the alabaster jar over his head. And certainly, you know, the anointing of the Holy Spirit itself was huge when he was baptized and he came up out of the water. You know, the Holy Spirit descended on him like a dove, which, you know, there is an anointing. And one of my favourite chapters in the Bible, from a chapter standpoint, is Isaiah chapter 11, which goes into what the anointing is. The anointing of wisdom and understanding and counsel and might and knowledge, a fear of the Lord and delight in the fear of the Lord. And you look at those anointings, it all again speaks back to the fact that Jesus was going to be anointed by the Holy Spirit. So you can't, you know, when it comes to a name, you can't separate the word Christ or the word Messiah from the word anointed.

And so when Solomon is penning this, clearly he didn't, you know, it was well over a thousand years before Christ was born. And yet he is telling us here that because of your savour, how wonderful it is that you smell, your name is an anointing, Shemen, which means anointing, poured forth. Well, you know, here he's telling you, essentially, if you put it in Greek, you could say, you know, your name is a Christ, the savour of your Christ, your name is a Christ poured forth. And so you can't help but see that, number one, when you think about all the amazing aromas that came from the sacrifices and how God was so pleased when he got the aroma even from Noah when he sacrificed, you know, there on the bank after he got off the boat. This picture of Christ anointing here in Solomon's Song of Solomon, again, points us to the fact that this whole love story is about Christ. This whole love story is about an anointed one. And the anointings in the Bible are just a study all into themselves and something to wonder about. Do you ever wonder? I do.
