Good afternoon, everybody. I'm Bart Winkler.
Welcome to Into the Winkler Verse. Just about 15 minutes or so on a Sunday afternoon as the afternoon games are at halftime, of which I have not really been paying attention to. What do we even got going on? The Niners are dominating. The Patriots, no surprise. Bears won today. Lions play tomorrow. And the Vikings continue their dominance of the NFC, of the NFC North as they win 31 to 29 over the Green Bay Packers in what was just a horrific viewing experience in every way.
So many times you were out and then the nerve to think you're back in. 31 to 29 is the final, which is wild since the Packers were down 28 to nothing. And I think the comparison to the Georgia-Alabama game on Saturday is fitting. When they were down 14-nothing, I thought that, because I've seen it a lot, so have you. 14-nothing is not, you know, it's like the 2-0 lead in hockey. It's the least safe league in the, or lead in the game.
10-nothing, 13. There's something different about a team scored two touchdowns. I thought they could come back.
28-nothing, I did not think they would come back. And I thought we were probably screwed, but then a muff punt, which you can't advance for, I don't even know. I don't know why.
Why can't you advance that? I mean, I know it's a rule, but why is that a rule? It's a stupid rule. You have a game that is trying to create more exciting plays, and then everybody in the stadium gets excited. The announcers don't know, the teams don't know.
And then you're like, oh no, it's a muff punt. It doesn't count. This exciting play doesn't count. Why is it a rule?
So dumb. But then the Packers were able to score, which I totally didn't think they were going to, because that was coming off a weird period where every single either thing or call was going against the Packers. Those catches, the reviews, everything was just, it was Lemony Snicket, man.
Series of unfortunate events. It was wild. And then the interceptions were not great. That had also led up to that point. We'll talk about that in a very rollercoastery game for Jordan Love.
I think there might be some comments on that in the coming days. So, I think he had a rough game. He had four touchdowns.
There's plenty that was fine, but again, we'll talk about that in a minute. Packers 31-29, the final they lose. And while there were plenty of things that went wrong for the Packers, certainly, this is a harsh realization that the Vikings are good. The Vikings were good when they beat the Giants. The Vikings were good when they beat the Niners. The Vikings were good when they beat the Texans. And the Vikings are good when they beat the Packers.
And now this one being on the road. So, beating the Giants on the road, winning the last two at home, these aren't anomalies anymore. The Vikings are good. Sam Donald's playing well.
Aaron Jones is a great addition. They got great receivers. The defense, I mean, this is a good, this isn't the year where the Vikings defense looked good, but they were actually bad.
This isn't that year. This is a good football team, well coached and a good team. So plenty to worry about if you're an NFC North fan, how we thought the Lions and the Packers would probably be atop the standings. And then the Bears maybe could get into the playoffs and the Vikings were like the disregarded team, 7-8 wins.
Well, they're already halfway there if that was your prediction. The Vikings are good. I mean, if you need a Packer fan to say it again, I'll say it again. The Vikings are good.
The Packers, I think are good. I had them as a top five team this week in the power rankings we do because they won those two games without their quarterback. They won those two games without Jordan Love.
Now I understand that Malik Willis is 2-0 with the Packers and Jordan Love is 0-2 with the Packers this season, but the competition, okay. And also, come on, but Jordan Love in this game early on, the accuracy wasn't there. He was throwing low.
I mean, like on even throughout the game, I don't think that's really a thing that improved as the game went on. Now that last drive was great when there was like no pressure. That was like Kirk Cousins against the Eagles two-minute warning, but Love threw low a lot. I mean, I don't think he had a bad game. He threw for 389 yards at four touchdowns, so he certainly didn't have a bad game.
And I don't think you have to be like, oh God, you pay this guy that much? But he threw low a lot. I don't know if there was some nerves about the knee or if he hasn't thrown enough in the last three weeks. I don't know what the issue was, but that's something that he'll have to correct. Now you don't want to see him overcorrect and then now week five he's sky and everything to the moon.
But Love did have some problems with the accuracy. In a fitting homage, he came into the stadium with Brett Favre's jersey on, which I thought was kind of weird, but that's what he did. And he paid homage to it by throwing for 389 yards, having four touchdowns, but then three interceptions.
I want to talk about those interceptions here in a second. This is Into the Winkler-Verse brought to you by Happy Place Hemp. Promo code is BART for 25% off all of their products. CBD THC. I'm telling you, the CBD CBN products really helped me get to bed and they really helped me sleep.
On Saturday, I coach my kid's soccer game. It's so early in the morning and I work so late at night on Friday that I worry that I'm not going to be able to get like, I'm not, I'm not going to get a lot of sleep anyway, you know, just four or five hours, but I want to make sure that I at least get to sleep so I can get those four or five hours. And what it does, these gummies is that part of your brain that's like, I'm not going to sleep. I'm not going to sleep. It like fights that part of your brain, or at least it does mine.
Again, this is my non-scientific way, but those helped me quite a bit. Those you can get the THC gummies or seltzers. It's all available.
Happyplacehemp.com. Check out the promo code. You use it every single time and don't do what I did. I bought some tickets recently for SmackDown and I had a promo code and I didn't get the promo code in. I couldn't find a spot for it. So now I'm paying full price. I thought I was getting a two for one.
So now I'm trying to fight with Ticketmaster, which is not going to go well. Put the code in. It's right there at checkout. It's right there.
You just type B-A-R-T promo code is Bart. The first interception from Jordan Love, not good. He threw in the triple coverage. I guess Musgrave might've been open.
Somebody had to be open. He threw in the triple coverage and then Christian Watson's legs got bent. So first and foremost, I'd like to say that, that's not, that's not his fault, but anytime you throw into triple coverage, if there's an interception, it's probably going to be his fault. Watson's ankle injury is thought to be a sprain.
So we'll see like what that is. So there's a lot of people that are already like, Oh, Christian Watson injury prone. There's I hate that phrase injury prone because that injury didn't happen because someone was quote unquote injury prone. If you're injury prone, it's like walking to a tree that's injury prone being thrown to when you have three guys around you and one of them going for an interception that like snaps your leg. That's not injury prone.
Okay. If I'm a bad driver and I run into a stoplight, that's probably my fault. If I'm a bad driver and like a drone falls out of the sky and hits me as I got the top down baby in my Corvette that I don't have, that's not my fault. So I don't, I don't, I'm very anti injury injury prone.
Anytime I bring this up, people are like, who cares? This is your Hill. It is one of my Hills.
It is one of my Hills. Second interception, two guys had a shot at it. I mean, if two guys touch it, the old Vince Lombardi thing is if it touches your hands, you should catch it. It touched two guys' hands should at least be on our team.
The third one. What was that? The third one, he just got the ball and was like, see ya. He's like, ah, it was like, it was like a practice ball or last ball, or you just want to get one more throw in. It's like, ah, geez.
You know, I can't explain it. Not a great, not a great pass there. Yes. He had 389 yards.
Yes. He had four touchdowns. He was 32 of 54 rating was around 83. Sam Donald on the other hand, 20 of 28, two 75, three touchdowns. And there was one pick and also another drop pick today. That was exciting.
Live on Facebook and YouTube. Oh, I think I got to do this again with my guy, Andy. Oh, Packers suck again. Bahaha. Packer fans whining about a loss is delightful. LOL.
I'm assuming that's not directed at me. I haven't been whining. The, the, the, the, it just was building up where in the first half it wasn't, it wasn't maddening anymore.
It got silly. It's like, nothing's going to go the Packers way. And the Packers are two and two and the bears, Andy's a bears fan. The bears are two and two.
So I don't really know. And Andy, I've given advice to Andy like this before via this channel and he never listens to me, but you live too much week to week. You live too much week to week, like in fantasy, if you lose, you might lose, but you did the trade longterm. Like I might be in a league where I traded Justin Fields and Marvin Harrison and I got back Aaron Rogers and Garrett Wilson. I might, I might have in three leagues this week of my 10 bench Baker Mayfield for Aaron Rogers. I may have bought back into Rogers as a football player. It may have bit me in the ass. I'm very, it's kind of upset about that.
And it was raining there, but I usually don't like that effect. My fantasy decisions. I don't know. The Packers bears fan. It doesn't need to be like this, this week. And Andy, you just, just take a step back. Andy, like he'll drive, he'll drive through neighborhoods.
And if there's like one, like if he sees anything Packers, he'll like sign you up for junk mail. Just back it, back it up, back it up, walk it off. We haven't gotten to this yet.
Solomon says they win if they have a field goal kicker. I think you got to get rid of the guy. I'm sorry. It braided nervous. And it's not like, it's not like he's Anders Carlson where you put some investment into him.
It's not like that. And then Greg Joseph, the other day kicked six field goals and you had him in camp too. Nervous. And now is a, he was three for four in Brazil, three for four against the Colts, three for three against the Titans, but two of those under 29. So he's nine for 11 from kicking field goals, but four of those have been 29 or less.
Le Fleur, let's go for it here. So he is essentially five for seven from anything over 30 yards. From anything over 40 yards, he's three for five. Has an attempt to 50 yard kick yet. Everybody else in the league makes him. We know he's not going to missed one. Oh no, I got, I got that wrong. I am not including this week's stats.
So he's even worse. Nine for 11. No, it's nine for 13. It's nine for 13 is nervous.
And anything over 40, he's three of six. I, they cost you the game. You lost by two. That was six points. Would the game have played out differently? Perhaps, but on those missed field goals, the Vikings got the ball. You know, those points could have helped and certainly would have helped. Maybe the Vikings played different at the end. Maybe they don't go for it on a fourth down. You know, you can't just say, Oh, six points.
It's 35 31. But I think if he makes one of those field goals, we're closer to that. And if he makes both, if he makes both field goals, the Packers got a lot better shot winning this football game.
Absolutely. I feel like he saved his job with a kick last week. I feel like he lost his job.
Like I, you have to change. There's other kickers out there. Some of these teams are carrying two kickers. They'll cut them when they, when the other healthy guys back, like Graham can, Oh, what are the giants going to do with them?
I are full season. That's how they got Greg Joseph. I mean, there's guys that they picked up out of the UFA. Some of the best kickers are out of the UFL, USFL, Brandon Aubrey, who did miss one the other day, but he's great.
Jake Bates is great. There's no, there is no reason to stick with a kicker if they're bad, there's no like reward there. Even if you drafted him like, Oh no, we drafted this guy.
He had a bad first year, but eventually he'll be Justin Tucker. Who's missing kicks, but there are enough guys that can just swing their leg, hit a 50 yarder and call it a day. We don't have to try to take a guy who can't and make them one that can there's enough guys that can do it.
Just find one. Uh, hi guys. I was really impressed with the no quit attitude. It would have been so easy to mail it in being down 28. Yes. Yes, very much so. Um, it was like that Georgia game right down to the G on the helmets. Uh, then Jim says Vikings win if they go for the field goal. Yeah.
I mean the game could have been differently, but you had a kicker miss two field goals. So not great. Uh, Tom says, I do look like Mitchell Pritchett. I told people on the air the other night, I looked like the guy from a modern family, uh, going for two as an indication they don't trust them. Yeah. They also, they do that now. They do that weird two point thing, which I guess is the way to do it. I hate it. I don't know if that's a traditionalist thing. I don't like making you miss a situation to potentially be in a situation and go, Oh, well then all they do is kick it.
Well, what if you miss and you got to go for two just to, just to tie. I don't know. I don't really like it. I mean, I get, I get how people explain it to me, but that doesn't mean I like it.
Okay. Uh, elsewhere in this game, what else are people mad about? I thought the sack was great. Um, the fumble, the sack fumble thought they were going to overturn that. I thought the interception was great. That's four now and four weeks for McKinney thought they were going to overturn that. Quay Walker at a sack.
People still mad at him probably for good reason. Rashaan Gary. There's enough guys on defense and we have like two sacks. It's not like there's a lot of pressure to go with those sacks. I thought it's not like Darnold felt hurt.
And then when he scrambles, you can't get them either. Rushing attack. Josh Jacobs, nine for 51, Emmanuel Wilson, eight for 27. Uh, they weren't really in a position where they could establish the run.
You're not down 28 points and try to establish the run. Jaden Reed had a big game, took advantage of the injury to Watson seven to one 39 and the score craft had a touchdown. Good game for him.
I think a lot of people thought he would really emerge. This was a good game in that way. Uh, dubs 39 yards, four catches. Bo Melton had the should be touched down, but then had that, um, wicks five of 78, two touchdowns, but he was targeted 13 times and only had five catches.
Some of that love some of that wicks. I didn't think it was a, again, if you look at the stats are like, Oh, competitive game back and forth game, great game, too much, too much inconsistency and too much inaccuracy. Uh, Tony also said, love will be fine, but he looked like the Jordan love from last year.
There is no reason to think that Jordan love is not the guy. This was not a great game. They should quit making stupid mistakes.
Attitude, pretty boy, especially. Le Fleur, Le Fleur, Le Fleur. He did get a 15 hour penalty, man. I thought that was a little weird.
See that was just part of the buildup. Like did they need to call that on him? He's trying to get the time out. He's trying to get the challenge. Do you need to call it on him?
Bill Vinovich sky. You put him on a game. That's not a chief's game. You don't know what's going on.
You don't know what to do. He's got all this anger. Everybody's putting him in these memes where he's so that he had to, he had to, he had to take it out on the Packers today. I thought now the rest in costing the game, but it was built up where it's like, what is happening? Packers mistakes and refs really trying to cover my bases. Packers lose. They got the Rams next week. Rams lost to the bears. Um, I don't think like I'm worried about the Packers. I'm not worried about the Packers. I don't like that they lost. I don't like how good the Vikings are. We'll see what the Lions do tomorrow night against the Seahawks.
Packers next up against the Rams and then the Cardinals and then the Texans and then Jacksonville. That should be a three in one stretch. If you're a good team, that should be a three in one stretch.
Two and two, I don't think is the worst thing. I'd like to be better than foreign for by November 1st I think the Packers are better than that. Uh, but overall they got to play better. No J or Alexander Vikings took advantage of that quite a bit. Addison big game for him. Justin Jefferson. I mean, Keyshawn Nixon, I thought in that corner of the end zone, he was going to have an interception, but the ball like went through them.
