I'm just looking at my teeth here on the Dan Shaney YouTube stream. I'm going to the dentist for the first time in years. On Monday. And I had this appointment planned for months. And I thought, okay, my teeth are shit, but over the next six months, I will make them better.

I obviously have let them be worse. I'm really scarred. I went to the dentist. I mean, I've gone to the dentist. Several times since then.

But I went to the dentist when I was like 14. And Doctor Phillips just reamed me out, man. He just reamed me out for my bad teeth. And it scarred me for dentists forever. I've always had a thing with With dentists.

And then I'm sure they've always had a thing with me because this grill that I'm bringing in there, I mean, it is. It is like It is like. My mouth. It's like if you go to one of these old Golf. Pro shops.

That are like 80 years old. And it's got all like They don't care about the Masters. They don't care about the U.S. Open. They just care about the tournaments they have on this.

Uh municipal power four cores. My mouth is like that clubhouse. Plaques everywhere. Plaques. Plaques everywhere.

Got a lot of plaques. Plaxico Burris in my mouth. There's a Drop But yeah, happy place hemp. I'm going to the dentist, Potawatomi. I'm going to take 500 bucks and bet on the bucks over.

It's got to be. It's got to be a sizable amount. Yeah. Because if I'm gonna do this all year and have it be a I guess a bit. Um It needs to pay off, like.

I can't just go down there and talk about my bet all year if it's a $30 bet. And 500 like Okay. That could be a thousand. I don't know. Over-unders.

I feel like over-unders should be more just because you got to wait so long. And to place an over-under on how many wins you're going to get in a season, I don't think the line should just be like. I guess you could do alt lines. I could go thirty, thirty-two. Maybe I'll scrounge another hundred and go and go bonkers.

On the Bucs. I don't think they're going to be good. I just they can't be that bad. It can't be that bad.

So that bet. to come. You know, I'll make a YouTube short of it too, son. If you know anything about me, we be making them YouTube shorts. All right, we'd be making them shorts.

Armin Sarian's going to join us. Uh Armin, a contemporary. We are of the same age. There is a lot of us of the same ilk. We have a lot of the same Thoughts on our teams, and so we can appreciate what's happening a lot more.

And specifically, I want to talk about the Brewers. With Armin, and we'll get into that. A reminder here: as we are in fall now. And soon it will be daylight saving, but already you're starting to notice that it's getting darker earlier. And people's habits have not yet changed from the summer.

Or even from after school, that means low light crashes. Are heavy this time of the year. People on their bikes. People in their cars. We're trying to use the roads together.

You got to have your lights on. You got to leave your lights on because there's a monster. Driving on the road Not staying three feet away. The Wisconsin Bike Fed and I reminding people driving. And if you're biking.

Use your lights as the daylight hours wane. Just be aware, slow down, look around. When you are near others, be visible, be predictable on the road. And help everyone get to where they're going safely. That message again, in part with the Wisconsin Bike Fed.

Check out more, Wisconsin Bike Fed.

So, this is the Wednesday show for September 23. The Brewers lost last night to the Phillies 6-4. Colton Gordon pitched well until he didn't. Uh who? I don't know.

Some guy that was with the Astros. Apparently, he was in the Lance McCullers deal. I thought it was just Lance McCullers for Prince's kid. This guy apparently was in it too. He win five innings.

Um two earned. Three runs, four hits. Basically, just eight innings and then the Brewers lost.

So if you want to be crazy. Can you say like, oh, the Brewers should try to win every game? I don't know. They're going to win 100 games. We've got five games left.

You need to win two. They're 98 and 59, but people are still paying attention to. The one seed. If we want the one seat or not, do we? I don't know.

I think you just go out there and play in, you know, quesara seura. I don't think you're trying to win or lose games. To match up who you're going to play in the playoffs. I don't think that's smart. They're a game over the Dodgers.

And you want the one seed because then it's home field in the NLCS.

Well, we got to make sure we get there first of all. I'll talk to Armin about that. I think a lot of people are already placing us in there. They'll have a buy.

So they wrapped up the central last week. They wrapped up a bye because Atlanta lost. Last night. They'll have a bye. And it's just between the Brewers and the Dodgers.

And then we got to figure out who are playing.

So if we're the one, we play the winner of the four or five. Which I don't know who that's going to be right now because all the wild card teams are tied. At 87 and 70. Cubs, Phillies, and Padres. Diamondbacks four back.

Probably done. But they're winning games, they're trying, and of course they play every game at home.

So that should help their cause there. As uh as well. Armin Sarian will join us. You can hear him. Mornings from 5A to 8A.

On uh Fox Sports 920. In Milwaukee and 1070 in Madison as well. He will join us. Coming up here on the Winklerverse. It's like getting a granola bar with a candle in it when you wanted a three-layer birthday cake. You wouldn't settle for just any dessert on your birthday.

So don't settle for just any insurance. When it comes to getting the help you need, State Farm is the real deal. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there. Stepping back into the Winklerverse, it's Armin Seri, and he is over at 9:20, The Huddle, with Billy. And Drew How do you do the names?

Is it Drew, Billy, and Armin? Is it Armin? Yeah, do you go alphabetical? Drew, Billy, and Armin, based on important. No, I'm just kidding.

I don't know. No, it's just Drew, Billy, and Armin. Yeah, Fox Sports 920 and Madison 1070. On the huddle. And Dang, I just want to say thanks in advance.

I'm sure you get up at 5 a.m. every day to listen.

So I appreciate you doing that. You know, no, I don't. I actually get up at four because I like to listen to your last hour from the day before. Really? Just like a previously on.

And then I get you live from five to about seven thirty because then I got to get my kid up. And then that's why I You know, get the last hour again the next day. The nice thing about YouTube is people do that all the time, actually, in all seriousness. They're clearly listening through the day. Cause like you kind of look at the YouTube numbers and you're like, well, there's definitely, it's grows.

You know, so a lot of people do that and then they'll comment to you. Like it's live. Like later, I'm like, I don't even remember what we were talking because I had this brain dump after the show. Especially the 5 a.m. But I always, this is the radio nerd in me because I remember my.

Like intro to communication class at Marquette from like 2003 broadcasting, where we had to learn about like um Safe harbor, and it's 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. And I always joke with Billy, I'm like. It's 5 a.m. to 6 a.m.

This is safe harbor. We can go crazy. And I usually make it as a joke, like to have like, you know, just bad sports takes, not to swear and stuff. It's a really, it's a nerdy joke. It's not funny.

But I love stuff like that, you know?

Well, I'm appreciate. No, Armin, I'm appreciating that, like. I don't think I don't know. I there's you're a radio guy. That's what I've done, you know, and I like that to me Is the highest compliment I can give.

I get it. It's like when someone calls like somebody, oh, you're a gym rat. Like, yeah, you practice. You're you're a gym rat, like, you know. You're a radio guy and I don't feel like, you know, not to be all.

Old already, but let's do it. Everyone You I had to cut my teeth, man. I had to cut my teeth just to do whatever, and now I'm hanging on by this bare skin, and it's just like. There's just I don't know. I just I don't like how different A duh.

Yes, I don't like that other people start a different way than I had to. Yes, fine. I'll admit it. It's, you know, that can be hard for our age. Because we had to start the old time way, where you really grind and do every shift.

I mean, I've been in radio now, this is hard to believe. Almost 20 years. When I started my first producing shift on Saturday night. six to midnight. Like And there, but but that's the way it was supposed to be.

And you're like, you have to do the grind and everything. And you're right.

Some people, some people can do a podcast now and they become, hey, they wake up on third base. But you know what? You can choose to be upset about that, or you can be like, you know what, though? I appreciate the journey. Of having to grind that way, you just try and tell yourself that because otherwise you'll go crazy worrying about what the look, these kids can just.

you know, get up and do it, but I don't know. I think g I think doing it that way And having to work in radio and the shifts and deal with all the nonsense, you know, you do get a certain amount of DNA built because of that. What did Holmgren say in 96 after we won the Super Bowl? It's about the journey. You've got to enjoy the journey.

You've got to enjoy the road to get there. I like to quote the 96 Packers highlight VHS as many times every day as I can. That's one of the things. One of my more vivid... Like, I think I more vividly remember When they came back to Lambeau for the celebration.

Than I do the Super Bowl. I mean, I remember the Super Bowl. Don't get me wrong, not Super Bowl XXXII. I've wiped that from my memory. Even when I re-watch it, I do not retain it.

I don't want to watch it. I watched the first, you know what I do? I watched the first drive where we scored. And that's it. I stopped.

Tark was like this. Jerry Tarkania, when Duke upset UNLV trying to repeat, he's passed now. But I read his book and he said he only watched until 2:40 and he never watched the last three minutes when they lost. He couldn't do it. And I don't I can't do it with Super Bowl 32.

It's hard. I can't either. I still haven't seen the two-point conversion against Seattle ever.

Well, that's the other one. I can't do it. And Billy always jokes about it, like... I can't I'm like I'm not watching that stuff. And, like, he, oh man, that's tough.

But yeah, I remember the return to Title Town in 96. Do you remember when the buses they couldn't get the buses there? And they were, it was so, that was such a big, nothing will ever be like. The 96 Packers. And that's okay to say.

I think. Like, we'll never recapture how hungry we were for Packers in the 90s and how great it felt just to have a winner. And like Everything was perfect then. I'm sorry. I hate to say it.

Like, I hate to be disproportionate. That's my favorite team of all time of any sport. That was the greatest year in American history. That was the greatest year in world civilization, 1996. And when the Packers won.

That returned, they could not get the buses through. That and that's why it became dark. It was supposed to happen during the day. You know? Yeah.

Farbo wasn't even there. People forget that. If that happened now, that the MVP quarterback wasn't at the return, that would be number one news everywhere. It'd be all over social media. Do you think about that?

I do. Oh, like how Rogers or Rogers, too, they just did a thing and he wasn't there. No, no, he was there in 2011. Absolutely. Yeah, well Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

I'm talking about Favre wasn't at the Lambo thing. Favre was not at return to Title Town. He did not go. That night, so he was not there. Why?

I don't know what it was. He didn't go. I'm he wasn't people people don't know what I vividly remember, I guess because I vividly remember Holmgren and Reggie. Oh, yeah, I don't remember far. Harmler was there and didn't have a coat, so the sheriff gave him his coat.

Remember that? He had the sheriff's coat on. Reggie was there, Eugene, all these guys. Don Beebe was going crazy. Desmond Howard was going crazy.

Farr was not in Lambo and it's Mandela effect. People will not remember that. I'm not mad or anything. I don't know if he had something else to do, Disney World. I have no idea.

Okay. But it would but it wouldn't happen now. You wouldn't make sure your quarterback's there.

Well, but the Packers did a yeah, that was the initial thing. And then I then I referenced the 15 years after they just did a because this just came up the other day where the Packers did a Super Bowl thing. Without Rodgers, because Rogers is still playing. Sure. Is Rogers mad about that?

Does he hate Goody? All this kind of stuff. It's just great that you gotta figure out. What we're going to turn on Jordan Love for.

However, many years. Maybe sooner than later, according to some. It does feel like we live in this sim where The hero arc is just Like you predicted, and it happened with Giannis. I remember we won the title that night in 221. I'm like, they're going to hate this dude one day for something.

And it's hard to believe. And I'm like, don't ever let, like, don't let that happen to you. I remember telling myself that this whole summer. I'm like, you told yourself you weren't going to let it happen. Like, don't get mad at Yannis.

Don't get mad at Yannis? No. I'm not over it, but I'm not mad at it. Especially after that Pashke YouTube drop, that mattered to me. I needed that.

I understand. What, yeah, I think Giannis, you know, as you live your life, you're trying to think like, well, what if this was my path? True, but I like this path, but also, what if that, you know, you, because you realize at a certain point, you only have one life. Yes. And he clearly went through the stuff that I think a lot of people go through, but it's just I went through it after college.

He went through it as a 31-year-old. Father of four, whatever. Anyway, I, you know, he fulfilled the contract. I'm at peace with it, really. As long as the heat don't win in time.

Right. No, I am rooting heavily against them. Because and it's not it's not that I have most people will assume when you say that I'm sorry. I always get you off track. I apologize for doing this.

I have no track.

Okay, good. Thank you, you unbreakable. You think I prepared one single question for you? Good.

Okay. There is one, like, a general idea I want to bring up with you, but. I don't care. You unburdened me. Thank you.

No, I'm going to finish with this and then. Yeah. About the heat thing. People think it's like an angry, like a Schadenfreude. Like you, you, you want it, you're a scorn lover, so you want bad things for Giannis.

That's not it. I care about Giannis' legacy being with the Bucs. For history, because if it's with the heat. Years down the road, they're not going to remember Milwaukee. They're going to remember the heat, and they're going to remember big market and sexy stuff.

And I don't want that. Like, as great as it was when Paul Mulder won a World Series in 93 at the Blue Jays? No, not great. When I was a kid, I wanted them to win because I like Paul a lot. He's my favorite brewer.

It hurt. Knowing that like He wasn't going to only be remembered as a brewer because I wanted his legacy to be with us.

Now, thankfully, he's always said, No, I'm a brewer, I'm putting the brewer's hat on in the Hall of Fame and all that. But it was partly like that could have been up. You don't want that selfishly. You don't want his legacy to be with anyone else but the Bucks, you know?

So Regarding Moliter and those brewers, and this is really the thing that I thought would be the best to talk about with you: we're of a certain age and have had very similar. sports experiences When you mentioned the 96 Packers, like we. Got in on that still, like, still young, but very cognizant, very interesting. I was 12. I was 12.

Yeah, me. Two. Were you born in 84? 84. When were you born?

Maybe. Eighty four. August 84 for me. Nice. Look at that.

We're like the same age. Did you Go 02 then or 03? Are you talking about when I graduated high school?

Well, yeah. Yeah, I grew up.

Well, you said go.

So I didn't know what that meant. It was kind of weird. No, yeah, I graduated in 02. I was. I guess I was technically a little early in the grade, right?

So I, it was August.

So I started, yeah, I graduated 02.

So you are the baby of your grade. Yeah. Yeah, I knew a guy that had the same birthday as me the year later in the same grade. My kid's in August, baby, and he just met a friend. Who is A year younger than M.

But he's not. He's one day younger than him, but he's in First grade and my kids and the family. That August thing is uh Tough Billy's trying to make me laugh. Get him in here. Yeah, I was gonna.

I try to wave him in, and then I think he's doing something else. All right, yeah, so yeah. Um. It was tough, you know, because I was the last of my friends that turned 21. And I was the DD that whole summer.

Yeah. When they were all turning 21, and then I had to go pick them up at the bar. It was kind of funny, actually. That was so in college when I was like, especially in March, April, May, now everybody is 21.

So they're all going to the bars. I never got a fake. I was mortified of getting a fake. I never broke a rule. I was too afraid of getting in trouble.

So they'd all go out at like 11:30, and I'd be like, all right, guys, see you. And I'd just drink by myself and play Madden until 2. I wasn't, I was more. I had more peace of mind from knowing I wasn't going to get in trouble. I like, I just have always had that.

Like, then, like, trying to have FOMO for not being there. I was like, I don't care. I'm eventually going to turn 21. You know what I mean? Like, so that's funny.

Yeah. So. We were cognizant in 96. That was your point. Yeah, and we're 12 and we're enjoying it, but we also like We knew the Packers were 70s and 80s, 70s and 80s.

So we knew that. But it was still like. We couldn't belie we knew enough that we couldn't believe. The Packers. We're going to win a Super Bowl.

So now I'm thinking of the Brewers. Yeah. If you look at our life, 2008 is always going to be special to me. Because This is the first time in our life they made the playoffs. It was absolute.

Fantasy land. To think it was beyond your wildest dreams to think we could ever. Listen, Bart, we make a playoff. Make a playoff. Forget that.

I remember the night we won 81 games. I was in college. I will never forget a going 500. That was a huge, huge deal for Brewers fans. What was that, 05?

Yeah. It sounds silly now, but that was a huge deal. We were 500 for 15 years. But since my favorite, one of my favorite teams ever, the 92 Brewers. Mine too.

Yeah. I knew you. I knew that. Oh, man. Yes.

Daryl Hamilton. Anyway, but like, that was a big deal. And going to the playoffs, and that was one wild card. Remember that? The good old days before they ruined baseball by expanding the playoffs.

God, let's go. It's a it's a mess it's a mess, but whatever. Um It was beyond my wildest dreams that felt. It can't feel much better than that until you win the World Series, right? I mean, that's kind of how I feel about it.

It can't feel much better than that day felt. When when when um When they got that final out in the Marlins and the Mets, right? The Mets, oh my gosh. And Guillermo Moda was on the dugout with the Andre, that cheap champagne. Remember like celebrating?

'Cause I I just talked about this too, where um The Euchre call. When Braun hit the homer and he goes, They've got the lead. They've got the lead. He was so excited. And I downloaded that and had it on my iPod.

For when I would go running, I'd be listening to like the most sad emo shit you could imagine. And then inspirational brewer calls. I love that. And then Euchre's call come on.

So now we're at a place. where They've made the playoffs eight of nine years. They've won four division titles in a row. Their manager bailed on them, and then we're kicking their ass. We beat them.

It's so ordinary. It's so unremarkable to win every day now. Like, it's a great thing. The Buck, it was like this with the Bucks when they started getting really good. And it's like they just win every day.

Like, it's so hard to not be desensitized. Is that what you were going to go with?

Sorry. No, I am, but because... Because like they're going to win 100 games. Yeah. which is unfathomable.

Unfathomable. And I turned the Brewer game on last night. And I was like. They lost. I was like, okay.

I mean, it was on, I know to turn it on, but I'm not. I thought I'd be like, you know, edge of my seat for 100 games. But I think it's this thing where We're thinking playoffs and we know we have a buy. Sure. We've already clinched everything.

Except for the first overall seed, I guess. I think a lot of Brewers fans assume. We've already won the DS as well. That's a concern for me. Huge.

I think a lot of Brewers fans have already put us back. to where we are, and it's gonna be against the Dodgers. We're just assuming And it does still feel like I can't have the joys of 2008. Until they're like, I need a World Series now. It's the same thing with the same thing with taking drugs.

Eventually your tolerance goes up. Right, it's tolerant. No, I know. I mean. If you are a billionaire.

And you fly private every day. Does it do anything for you anymore? If I took a private jet, I've never been on a private jet, obviously. If I did that, it would probably be the coolest thing ever. Like, it'd be like, this is an experience of a lifetime, you know, or like.

Once in a life, but.

So you have to really recognize the fact that like If you live in Hawaii every day. Perfect weather won't mean much to you. Perspective matters. Like going through hard times matters, the journey matters, and that ties it back. But I think also.

It will feel that great when we win the pennant. But now, here's the other thing. It's like the Packers in 96. Most people thought it would only feel good if we vanquished the Cowboys at home. Yeah, but it doesn't matter in history.

I don't care because also, I never thought we could beat the Cowboys personally. We would not have beat the Cowboys. Deep down, I don't believe it. They were our kryptonite. Although we were much better that year than them, but we lost that year to them.

It didn't matter to me. I was happy that we won this. Oh, you're talking about that year of the Chiefs of the Vikings. I think it was the Colts. No, that was the year after when they were 0-10.

You're thinking you're right, because the Colts are not in the same division as the Chiefs. No, we lost the Vikings. We lost at the Metrodome in week four, which wasn't a big concern.

Okay, we lost the Chiefs. That wasn't a big concern at the time because you have to remember the 90s Packers were. A three-time wildcard team. Won every one of those and lost in the divisional series. A divisional round.

Yeah, they call that the Houston Texans now. Which I think is interesting pertaining to what we're talking about now with the Packers, Brewers, because we're talking about how it can't feel good until that moment. But then I'm flipping around YouTube as I always do. And I posted this clip, maybe you remember it, because I think you might have seen it. It was the last two minutes of the Packers, Falcons, Wild Card 95.

You've been posting some outrageous shit lately. I love it. Aren't we just like anyone wants to see a random ass Bucks game from 93? Here's 10 minutes of it. Because I feel like that's the stuff that's going to actually get attention.

My Twitter account is not. Obviously, I got hacked. You know about that. Yeah. I got hacked and like I've been starting.

So it's like. That's the only thing that gets run is old clips now. But it's because I also like posting them, but I'm always like, well, no one's going to care if I say. What's the worst color scheme in college football? Which I did.

I got like no engagement, you know. But if I post a clip, what was your answer? Virginia Tech for sure. It's ugly. It's so ugly.

Are you kidding? Billy was laughing at me. He's like, Why are you taking strays at Virginia Tech this early? I never liked TCU. I don't like purple in my sports, besides the Bucks, old ones.

Yeah. But I think Virginia Tech is worse than that. Maroon and or like burnt brown like Whatever. Anyway, um So I'm watching that clip thinking about it This was the third year in a row we were going to have a win in the wild card round. If that happened now...

We'd be like, yeah, whatever. We won the wild card last two years. We have to get farther. Like, we should have won. Like, I'm glad.

People were partying in Lambeau like we won it all. Like, people were just having so much fun. Yeah. And that's a that's a commentary of the changing times too, right? Like and Madden and Pat are talking about how like there's nothing like being at Lambo.

These people don't want to leave. No one's left. It's New Year's Eve. They want to be together. They're having a you know.

Everyone's singing na na na na hey hey. It's like perfect 90s, right? I'm thinking that would never happen now. We would be too. Bored with the wildcard win.

At home. They dumped. Gatorade. Leroy dumped Gatorade on Holmgren. People would be mad about that now.

They'd be on Twitter saying, wow. This is the Packers. Like, you know, we should have more standards. We should have championship standards, not dumping Gatorade after another wildcard win. We didn't we didn't get mad about stuff like that.

We just had fun back then. What's your take on court storming and field storming? I'm getting really over it, but unless it's worth it, but then it's like I'm the anti-fun police.

Well, to me, I'm okay with because I'm okay with every field storm.

Okay. Because You gotta remember like who's there now. Yeah, kids. It's kids. Yeah.

They don't give a shit as much as we do. They don't do anything, right? In theory, like everyone's saying kids don't hang out anymore, party, or go to live events.

So this is like, okay, that's fine. I get that they want to do this. I would. I don't mind it. Yeah, but some are worse than others.

Like Michigan Storming, after beating, I know it was a Hail Mary and stuff, it was miraculous. It's kind of embarrassing.

Well, they lost that game.

Well, I agree. But they went. Like when Mark had been- Everyone's like they lost, but then everyone's just like, oh no, they're three and oh fuck. Yeah. They lost.

Well, I know, and this is another one. You know, I'm I I'm a Marquette guy, so I love thinking of old Marquette games too. Which is another thing I want to talk to you about. That was the only other thing I wanted to mention today, by the way. We'll get to it.

It's a market topic. That no, I'm not coming to attack you, Randy. Don't worry.

Okay. But it's like... When market? Open the Big East, their inaugural Big East game in 06 from Conference USA. They're playing number two, UConn.

And They won that game. Novak had the big night. It was unexpected blowout. Everyone thought they were going to lose by 40. And I remember being there in the student section.

I was a senior, and nobody stormed, and nobody thought about it. It just wasn't. We didn't do it.

So, I don't know. Like, I'm thinking back, I'm like, why didn't we storm? I guess it wasn't as common, or we just didn't do it. But So I see them storming after that when I'm like, you beat Western Michigan. Like, you just won a national title.

But you're right. They're just kids that want to have fun.

Some of the kids there, like maybe most of the kids there, weren't even there two, three years ago. Yeah, you're right. And it's just a fun thing to do. And I realize, like, maybe this is like the only chance they have to gather in a group anymore. No one goes to house parties anymore, right?

As they say, at least.

Okay. I don't think they do. What do people do? I don't, I was so worried. Not worried, but...

Because I'm in Shorewood and we're very close to Milwaukee's campus. And I thought Oh, there's going to be house parties all the time. And I never see any of them. And now, like the first day of school. If I'm driving by and I'll see like people put up a ping pong table.

In their front yard, and I'll roll in the window. I'll be like. Hang on to these moments. You're in your fucking front lawn, like beer pong. Cherish.

Like, I see these kids on the e-bikes now, and I get frustrated because they're like motorcycles on the sidewalk. But then I'm like, fell off one, almost died. They're scary. I don't care what he says. They're basically.

motorcycles, but then I'm like Armin, like All you say is, like, why don't these kids play outside all day like you did? This is what their version is.

So I can't be that mad. I need to wrap up the Brewers thing before let's do it. I'm so I get off on these tangents. It's fun for me, though. I'm not gonna lie, but go ahead.

Yeah. Well, I enjoy talking to you. You know, once you get to get someone in the Winklerverse, that's a big deal, but to get him back a second time. Oof. I told you, I love stepping into this dimension.

You know? That definitely is not of this earth. All right, let's wrap the brewer's thing up. Yeah. I just feel like.

I feel like I'm not. I wish I was more. I mean, I'm into it. I'm certainly into it. Of course, I'm into it.

You wish you felt the joy naturally more? And I also wish it didn't feel, it just feels too familiar. Like, we've got a Cy Young.

Okay, we had one. We got Manager of the Year. We had one. We're good at not hitting home runs, and we can get, okay, we've done that. And it just feels like the Dodgers are still good, the same teams are still good.

Um Does it feel like the bra braves in the nineties in some ways? Yeah, I just This you can't I mean you can'cause they are, but to have this much success and then not make a Not make one World Series and really baseball is so demented, and my small market brain with the Brewers is so demented. I just need to get there.

Well, part of the problem is still expanded playoffs. Like, it's a random thing, the playoffs, mostly. I know the Dodgers have won, but mostly it's random.

So, the more teams they put in there. The less you've seen dominant, winning 100 games is not important anymore. Winning 95, getting in the playoffs and just putting a lottery ticket in the raffle box is what matters. Like and the past you'd have to win 100 games because second place at 97. Yeah.

I mean, the Brewers had 92 and 92. You were crowning a champion that was judging the best teams back then. That's one thing I don't like and it's not like an old fuddy-duddy take. Other than You know, I think we at least we have the buy. Like, we should get something for winning soap.

Like, Yeah. I get your point. You're worried that we're going to have this era and not have anything to show for it. And history will say they weren't that good when we know they've been good every day. But this specific year, also, even though there's like the new 100-game thing, it still feels like, well, we've got a shy young pitcher, but now we're worried about the rotation.

We don't like we're getting there with small ball or brewers, and we don't need a home run. We need a home run. It just feels. It feels the same. The Dodgers are going to be there.

We're already thinking it's going to be, it kind of is the same. The only difference is, can we actually break through those so then I can't get max excited? Or to the level I want to be and think the team deserves me to be until they. Go a new step, which would be the world series. Yeah, I get it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, it's a natural take. I just want to make sure, like, it's hard though. I mean, like, the DS thing, I think fans expect us to waltz through the DS. That's baseball. They're not even imagining.

We're already in the NLCS against the Dodgers. I'm telling you. Do you know how good the NL has been? Do you know how hard that DS is going to be against one of these teams? The Padres aren't losing anymore.

The Phillies are really good, and the Cubs are the Cubs. Like. It's gonna be hard to beat the Braves. I mean, who might it be?

So. That's the problem. That's the thing about it, it'll be very difficult to make it. And if we do, that'll be make it better.

So I kind of hold on to hope that like I used to tell myself about this. You know, like when I, when I worked in the... I worked at Miller Park. When I was in high school and college, I worked at the team store. They called it the fan zone back then.

And, you know, we were living in that some bad brewer teams, and they were getting better with Hardy Fielder weeks coming up. Bron came up, Hart came up. And we were trying to like. Every it was a fun job because like all of my friends that worked there, we were all like either in high school and then college, and then we were all Brewer fans and like we'd live and die with the brewers. And I remember having a conversation with a buddy of mine that worked there.

And I said. What did I say? It was about like. We're not gonna bank the playoffs. I said, don't worry.

Like, we can't go forever without winning a World Series. Like it has to happen one day as long as the world doesn't end or as long as like baseball doesn't end. Eventually, we will have to win a World Series.

Well, the clock's ticking on both of those, bud. The problem is the clock's ticking. Like, I didn't think I'd outlive both. Mm-hmm. It's looking that way.

So is this our last chance before those things? That's really funny.

Now, in Morbid way, but I don't know. I just so. I hope they do it because I think We deserve it. But I also want people to, like you said. Be able to appreciate it.

And not say, look at this years as a failure, because that's how we do it in sports now. No championship, no, no value. That's how we do this. I don't like that, but it's reality, you know? I mean, it's also like what is what is like That's why There is joy in not having that chase.

There is joy in. Not worrying about it? Yeah, like an eighty one win team meaning something. There's joy in making the playoffs for the first time. Like, would you yeah, would you rather be like hungry and have that first meal or be able to consistently eat meals?

Like, obviously, you want to be able to have a food source to sustain yourself. But if you were starving for a week, that one meal you get would be the best meal. Yeah, I think I'd just rather eat constantly all the time. Right. And that's what I come back to every time we have a devastating loss in the playoffs.

Like, this is still. As bad as it feels now, this is still better than the alternative. You have to tell yourself that to cope with it. And that's all we're doing. Is coping with loss in sports.

Like, you're going to win sometimes, but mostly you're not. Like, you know. Tell me the Marquette. Let's do the Marquette thing. The only thing I was going to say is, it hurts me when I hear you say, I like every team but Marquette.

It always hurt me. I love, I went to Marquette. I love Marquette basketball, but I think Marquette gets a bad rap. I've always thought it. And I want to find a way.

to make people not dislike Marquette as much as they do around here. And It's Milwaukee's team. When I grew up. I never went to private school or anything, right? And I went to Marquette because, like, I was.

apply at schools and I liked the broadcasting program and it was local. And, but I cheered for Marquette even before I had any thought of going there because when I was a kid, I went to the Bradley Center and they were Milwaukee's team and the banners were up there. And, like, I know in the past you've been like, I cheer for everybody, but Marquette, I don't really, that hurts me. That's it.

Well, here's the okay.

So the so growing up in Fond du Lac. Yeah, it's harder. It's different. It's different. It's harder.

Yeah. It's very Wisconsin heavy. Uh And I actually did not know what Marquette was. Many people didn't. I thought it was in Michigan.

Yes. I only knew because I would go to Bucs games. And see the banners on the court. And my dad would sometimes get tickets from work, you know, and we'd go. And I never did that.

And then when Diener. Winter Marquette. Yeah. I rooted for Travis and I rooted for Marquette and that Final Four, and I was in it. Then I started getting mad that Like even years after Diener was gone If it was a Fondi basketball game, people would wear their Marquette stuff.

Like Monday game, I need to wear my Marquette thing. to represent deaner represent deaner I love it. He was one of my favorite players. It's hard because I love Marquette basketball so much, but I get why, like, you don't have a connection.

So like I'm trying to get into Marquette. Like I'm thinking. Everything you said is right. I should appreciate Marquette. And so I do.

And so I get into them and then I'm following them. And I'm, and then, and then they play that game against Wisconsin. And every bit of goodwill or fan, the fans go to zero. It resets because of Marquette Day, because of trying to go to Buck Bradley's, and you can't sit anywhere, because of. Ah Because what was the other thing?

Oh. The thing that really pissed me off, and this is. I think this was either Anonymous Eagle or Crack Sidewalks. I don't remember which one. Yeah.

But Melvin Gordon broke the rushing record. And then the next week. That Pumphrey guy broke it. And these Marquette blogs are just cheering because, ah, There's no football team. You can't compare.

I think football if you're I'm cool. It'd be like the Wisconsin Badgers sitting on Milwaukee for getting bounced by Auburn. You don't have a fucking team. I get you.

Now I'm gonna say this, like The cool thing about Rivalries you should be tribal.

So I have no problem with that. Right, but like. It makes no sense when you travel about a football thing if you're a Marquette.

So I agree with you there. That can be annoying, and that's what builds the annoyance of a Marquette, right? But What Marquette fans would tell you is that they'll do the same thing to us on out-of-pocket when they have. They'd go on message boards and say, Marquette doesn't have football. What are they doing today?

We have a football game. It's like out of power. That's lame. That's lame. Well, I agree with you on both ends, and I get the name.

I've really thought about this a lot. The nature of any rivalry is geographic. in nature to me. A true rivalry, and it's just your annoyance that anybody else is in what you consider your space. What do we hate most about Cubs, that their fans are at our stadium?

Their fans are in Kenosha. Like, I know it makes Wisconsin what annoys Wisconsin Badger fans about Marquette kids is they feel that they just exist in their space and it annoys them. Like, why are you chairing from Marquette here? You're saying the Buck Bradley's thing, that's what it is, right? And then it's like that's where the rivalry stuff starts.

So. So most people say the same thing. You know, I like Marquette, I like watching them, but, you know, it's the fans that annoy me online. That's the same thing. And that's probably what Marquette fans would tell you of why they even make crack jokes about Wisconsin.

Because they have to participate in the robbery and defend themselves. And then when Wisconsin plays at Fiserve and like the bars across the street get all into it, and Marquette all gets all mad. And then Goolsby's is like, get your asses down here. This is where we're supposed to be. Because there's a legacy of Marquette on the streets of downtown Milwaukee.

I know. Yeah. But it is funny to me that people will get mad. It's like, how dare you cheer for somebody else?

Well, that's the nature of any rivalry.

So, why is rivalry in sports accepted? And then, when I'm trying to make rivalries on the radio back in the day, everyone hates me. I'll see it as like work, not entertainment. But that was a problem for you, right? People didn't like that.

You would rattle. I remember, I would see you, I would just kind of observe. But like you would rattle the cage and I'm like. I think what people made people mad is they probably felt like you were trying to take away their livelihood. But I don't think you looked at it that way.

I don't think it was that way. I don't want to take anybody out of a job. I want them to have a job, and no one listens to them. I know you, right. You want everyone to exist, but like...

Well sorry, be the winner. And I I think like it would just be uncomfortable for some people to We didn't do probably rivalries in the city much with media. I don't really know though. I try and like, you know, just Kind of observe, you know. But that's probably what it was.

I would not like the Winkler verse to be the melting pot for all. Yeah. Well, now I think you have to look at the changing landscape of our industry, you have to kind of look back on it with like, A wistfulness, though. Like, those were the good old days, and we all fought. Like, it's like, oh, I need to be nice to everybody now because I'm going to need you guys to come on my podcast when everybody else loses their job.

Sure. And, like, you know, whatever. And to come on your guys' bots. It didn't bother me. Like, I mean, not that really, that much.

Like, it's. But you know, some people are just not in the conflict. I'm not.

So, I know how it is. Like, I wouldn't be able to do all that. A lot of these people are not into public conflict, but they like behind the scenes drama.

Well, people like juicy drama and gossip. That's like a high school. It's like everyone likes that. But they don't want to be part of it. They just want to be part like they don't want to be involved in it.

You know. Yeah, like reality T V, that's why I like Big Brothers so much. And Traders is a good one. We're watching Traders. I haven't watched those.

I think the worst reality TV show is. I don't know if it's a game show. dancing with the stars my wife loves it and i'm like there's nothing changes on this show They all dance. Pretty well. They have like a 10-second montage about their practice.

They're all celebrities that don't have real stakes in this. Like, they're all going to be fine if they don't win. Like, you know, my wife had it on last night. And then also, my mother-in-law wants Disney Plus so she can watch it. That's right.

That's what we did. Same thing. And I'm like, This is like year 30 of the show, and you guys are just getting into this now. There's oh, they've always watched it.

Okay, but like it's like it's like if you said I'm a big American Edol, no one's watching American Edol anymore. Kind of sad. We used to do you ever look at the numbers for those shows? It captured America. Like, there were like 30 million people watching it that night.

Like, dude, more people were upset about Sanjaya than they're upset about gas prices. That made Howard Sterns like. That'd make his career, obviously. But Howard Stern had a big thing about San Jaya for a long time. They like.

That's when we had real influence in this medium. Yeah, that's all right. We could talk about that forever.

So, you Yes. Are you going to any Brewers games? I want to, but the Pack. I'm working Packers' radio schedule, obviously, so it's going to. Um it might interact and then my wife and I have our anniversary on this Second, which might be DS game one or two.

No, it's the third. The third, right.

So I don't know if I'll be back in town.

So it's that whole thing.

So I'm not sure if I'll be able to yet. Unfortunately, I want to, but... I don't know. Well then, I guess I won't see you there.

Well, it's possible still. Last year, I didn't go and we won. When I went to the Arizona games, they lost.

So You would you is it my fault? I'm not sure. They're like 500 when I go. What does that say about me? It says that we have no effect on it, and we think we do.

They're undefeated when I get gently told to leave the game a little bit earlier than it's supposed to be done. That's a big thing for you. Were you trying to wrap it up?

Sorry if you were. That's a big thing for you. It's like the whole standing up and sitting down. You get really mad about that.

Well, we let's talk about that next time. I'm going to say next to me next time. Let's do it. I'm going to leave my jacket. I won't.

So, my computer's dying, and I'm on phone internet. That's fine. And I'm trying to set up my new internet. And then the ATT sent me a box, and now it's not working. I hate that.

I just feel like internet should be the one thing that always works. Yeah, it should be, but it's not. And it might not be. But we'll see. All right, Bart, it's great being on with you.

I appreciate it, and I'll step in again soon. The pleasure is all mine. Armin, appreciate you. We're stopping into the Winklerverse. Insurance may all seem the same on the surface, but having insurance isn't the same as having State Farm.

Very upset about this internet thing. They were very quick to send me a new.

Hub Or box or whatever you call it. And now it just will not set up.

So I'm on my phone audio or wireless, and I'm like, oh, this is just as good. And now I'm getting blasted from text that I'm like over my data. Just take it from someone else. These phone companies And this internet. Internet should just be free.

You know what else should be free is a lot of food. Why are our cities not just littered? With apple trees. And we could just go eat apples any time we want. No, apple trees have to be grown on Plantations or whatever, and then you got to sell them and add pesticides.

I've never been like Real worried about what I put in my body food-wise. Or anything else is a Seven-time booster shot champion. But god damn. I'm finally looking into some of this like. American versus European, that's a trending thing.

And they're like, what are we eating? Speaking of transitions, um There's a report that the Bucks may get a worse penalty for Gary Trent Jr. than the Clippers are getting for Kawhi. Do people remember that Gary Trent and the Bucs are both bad? What are we doing?

Just let it be.

So, Gary Trent's making more money than he should be. Oh, no. It's not a competitive advantage. It's a competitive disadvantage. is what it is.

I don't understand it. All right, this is David. Calling in from Buffalo looks like his week in review of the NFL. Hey Bert. going on this. This is David from Buffalo.

Another week of the NFL is in the books. Exciting week, too, I thought for the most part. A few things, I a few takeaways from the week. Number one, you're really happy with the way the Bills played Thursday night to open up the new stadium. I thought it was exciting to watch that offense throwing the ball down the field more, giving Josh Allen some more targets.

I hope Moore's injury is not serious. Um few of the thoughts. Aaron Rodgers looks very, very old. The Steelers, you know, here's the problem with the Steelers. They're not willing to mortgage.

They're franchise to get You know, a first-round quarterback, and probably their next move will be trading for a guy who's like a bridge guy, like a. Maybe a Jared Goff. Do I say that out loud? But that would be the kind of move I could see the Stewards making. Deshaun Watson, I need to see a lot more.

One game, great. I mean, that's that's unboyable. Great for him, nice, whatever. Let's see more out of him. You know, that was a weird game, anyways.

I feel terrible for the Giants fans. Jackson Dart, I just worry that this guy is going to be injury prone. I mean, it seems like the guy is getting hurt all the time. Um doesn't matter if he's running, if he's throwing. Here's what the Giants should do if he is hurt, called Joe Flacco.

The other thing I want to say, that's right, Indianapolis. Chris Ballard, the general manager there. I know It seems like they tried a lot of different things over the years. They made a lot of trades that just haven't really worked out. Um the quarterbacks they tried, the saw started to trade.

I've got a new name for Chris Ballard there. He's more like Del Ballard, the professional bowler who once threw a gutter ball in the tenth frame of a PBA tournament back in the day, Mark.

So, Del Ballard stepping up there in Indy, or you might be working for Oh Uh they got cut off. Because someone's calling my phone. Uh River Grove number. I'd answer it, but I don't know if it's a voicemail coming in or. A spam call.

I think it's a spam call. Let's answer it. Matthew in Chicago. To accept, press one, to send a voicemail. Oh, uh, that was my guy that I called accidentally.

All right.

Well, Matthew's sent in a voicemail. We'll hear that later in the week.

Okay, you can get your voicemails in.

Sorry, David. 402-915-BART. Picks with Horvat on Thursday. Postgame on Thursday night, Packers, Falcons. Like and subscribe, you crazy sons of bitches and thanks for stopping into the Winklerverse.
