Cory Smith, Pack Pride, is out in Washington to watch the ACC tournament and discusses what NC State’s plan might be for today’s game.

Will DJ Horne be playing today against Louisville in the ACC Tournament? What is Cory’s sense on Kevin Keatts? Adam thinks it would be difficult to fire a good coach, so will the boosters support the cost of finding a new coach; if that’s the route they take? Does Kevin Keatts have a good relationship with Boo Corrigan?

Let's let's start with the availability of DJ horn who I know worked out yesterday thoughts on whether or not we're going to see DJ go at it. Yeah. I mean, you know, from the sounds of it, from everything I'm hearing, it sounds like DJ is going to give it a go today. It was, we were told yesterday that he is, you know, a game time decision by Kevin Keith. But, you know, if we're, if we're looking at past history, which we, we do now have with Kevin Keith, you know, we, we've heard from him for seven years now at this point and everything that we've heard, you know, leading up to games, if it's usually a quote unquote game time decision, that usually means that player is going to point. That player is going to play.

So I get the feeling. We'll see DJ DJ Horn. We saw him warm up. You know, they have 45 minutes shoot around yesterday, but the 1st 15 minutes of it with a trainer with Pat Murphy from NC State, their strength coach and, you know, him kind of stretching with the bands are on the side. He said he has a hip flexor. We'll see if that affects the shots or not, or what's going on since you say, but I think, man, if you, if you're looking at a player that you really need to heavily lean on, it is DJ Horn over anybody else on the roster. Yes.

No, no question about it. I found it interesting when they talked, they listed the injury, they said lower extremities. And all I could think of was he has frostbite. I don't know, but hopefully he'll be okay to play. Just your from your sense. I mean, every game is big. You want to keep playing because the Wolfpack are in the game.

You're in a win, win or else mode. Your season is going to be over. You're not going to the NCAA tournament unless you win five times in DC. You're probably not getting a bid to the NIT either unless you play deep into the ACC tournament.

What is your sense on Kevin Keats? Yeah, I mean, you know, if you, if they were to lose today against Louisville, uh, it would be losing four out of the last 15 games are losing or only winning four out of the last 15 games. That's going, uh, four 11 total to close out the season. That is a, that's, that's not a good look when you're talking about job security for a coach. Uh, you know, the sense that I get, you know, the, I'll just say that boosters are not particularly happy with, uh, where the program is right now. The big question mark has been for the last several weeks. It seemed like when we were talking two weeks ago, you know, job security didn't look great, but it looks significantly better than where it is right now. You lose the last four straight going into the ACC tournament. You dropped from a team that was looking for a potential double by a few weeks ago to not getting a buy at all.

Starting on a Tuesday. Uh, you know, the stability of this program is not in a great state right now. Uh, so, you know, the, the big question mark was, you know, who's going to pay the, you know, the potential $5.4 million buyout. And then that's not even including the coaches, the assistant coaches contract.

That's not including all the money you need for NIL. Right. Going into the off season. These are all big factors in making this ultimate decision. Uh, but we'll, you know, we'll see. I think right now, uh, a lot of people are kind of out on, on the Kevin Keats quote unquote, uh, experiment, I guess, uh, for the last seven years and then where things are heading. But, uh, man, you know, again, it's kind of boring, a potential run here in DC.

So we'll see if that even happens or not. Corey Smith from pack bride is joining us here on the Adam gold show. Our Corey Smith on Twitter. Hey, it's Adam golden. I'm in studio with my friend coach pizza router with the capital financial advisory group. Is it ever too soon to seek out you and your expertise?

I'm not sure how you feel about this, but I actually I think Kevin Keats is a good coach. And I think it's hard, especially when there's going to be have to, you know, going to have to be money, you know, put forth to make a coaching change. I think I find it hard to fire a good coach.

I know it hasn't gone. Well, there have been a couple of times extenuating circumstances, the pandemic, a year where they probably should have gone when they didn't go to the NCAA tournament. But how much of the boosters are it's it's either him or us. Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, whether you're a good coach or not, you build the roster, you put things together and, you know, last year it worked out well, but they struggled down the stretch kind of, you know, hobbled into the ACC tournament hobbled into the NCAA tournament where there was still question marks. The thing is, like, you know, I think he's done a good job coaching at times. There's also been a lot of situations where the team should have been better.

The team should have felt better than they did. But if you're looking at the overall structure of this roster, where things are at, those are all things that Kevin Keats are responsible for. This isn't the NBA where, you know, the GM is responsible for the roster composition or anything along those lines. So this was put together by Kevin Keats by his, you know, by his program, and it's just not been good enough to, you know, compete at a high level in the ACC, which is what you want to see.

You want to teach the trajectory of the program continue to get better. You know the and obviously you were given an extension two years ago. Part of that was written into the contract.

That was the way things work. But, you know, if you're looking at whether or not you're a good head coach, it's going to be all based on the actual results that you get. And right now, the results haven't been good enough to be at, you know, one of the better one of the better programs, which is what NC State boosters, what NC State fans, what they want to see is at least consistently putting together a roster that can compete for the top of the ACC and whether or not that's feasible or not is, you know, a question for another day.

But that's not where the program has been right now. Corey Smith from pack brought is joining us here. What do you think about their draw Louisville, man? If you don't beat Louisville, I mean, we're all we're all going to like, you know, go into a turtle shell then then Syracuse and potentially Duke.

Yeah, I mean, you know, I think the somebody brought up a very good point yesterday. There's there's no team left interested in being at the ACC tournament in Louisville right now. If you don't beat Louisville, then that is that is just a tremendously bad look. But yeah, I think the draw worked out all right for them. The issue obviously Syracuse, you know, you were you were pretty close to being able to beat them at home.

Uh, it came down to an elevator screen to DJ Horn that didn't fall right. That was a tough look, but they've been good enough to compete with them on a consistent basis. They've also just lost seven straight to Syracuse.

So history there doesn't look great. Now, granted, five of those games are against Jim Boeheim and not again. So, you know, it's a little different there, but this is a this is a team that you know they can be. They just haven't been able to break through against and then, you know, Duke is a team that I mean, obviously clearly much more talented than Duke. So, you know, the draw is the issue where you start out on a Tuesday. You have to play two games before you go into even thinking about Duke.

So that's that's not, you know, exactly a perfect situation for a team that relies heavily on like three players to be their scores. Yeah, and the no question about that final thing, and this goes back to Kevin Kate. Do we know if he's got a good relationship with book Oregon? If he if he didn't do wouldn't have written into the contract that he begins to double a tournament or the NCAA investigation. The results of that were tied to him being able to find it and a two-year extension on top of what he already had. And that was signed after the 2020-21 season, which was or 2122 season, which was not great for him to say if you remember the most losses they've ever had in program history. So, you know, the yes, the relationship there is good. And I think that's that's another factor that's played into the two is I don't think who necessarily went into this year wanting to make a decision or wanting to make a change. It's just, you know, how how forced is that hand been now at this point? I think we'll find out, you know, over the next 48 to 72 hours.

You know, what's the one since the state finds out there? You know, what they finish the season with or aware book Oregon wants to go moving forward. Corey Smith are Corey Smith on Twitter pack pride. My friend. I appreciate your time. We will talk to you soon. Thank you so much.
