How did Seth feel he did last night, with the Carolina Hurricanes beating the Ottawa Senators? How did Seth view his season last year? What did Seth have to beg Rod for, which he finally gets to do now? How many guys are waiting for this same spot? What does he see when the Staal line goes out on the ice? I'm just glad that I didn't play for Ottawa last night because I would have been hit by Seth Jarvis at least once.

Seven hits, 2149 of ice time. How'd you feel after the opener, Killer? I felt a little tired but I was super pumped and it was a lot of fun.

I mean, I bet it was. What was your off-season like? Because, I mean, I didn't see you a ton in the preseason but the word on the street, meaning, you know, talking to the head coach, is that you are in maybe the best shape of your life. What did you do to get that way?

Yeah, I mean, I feel really good. I think just I really stepped up. I took a lot of it seriously but I think I put it up a couple notches.

I think I really dialed into the little details and recovery. I think before, maybe during the summer, I didn't take advantage of the massage as much as I did this summer and I think that just resulted in me being able to train harder and train more often. So, you said that, I think it was I read it attributed to you, that you were, I don't know, 10 or so pounds heavier last year.

Was that by design? Did you think you needed extra weight, whether it was muscle or not, to withstand the rigors of a season and you felt like that it didn't work for you? Yeah, I was like they they told me obviously they want me to put on weight, put on muscle, and I think I took it probably a little too far.

I think I went maybe one or two steps too far and so I was, I felt way too heavy. I didn't feel good so I spent the whole year losing weight and then kind of started from scratch this summer and I was able to get to a weight that I really, really like playing at and feel good at. How much of it was nutrition? A lot of it was nutrition.

A lot of it was focusing on what I'm eating and when I'm eating and making sure that I keep that kind of dialed in. All right, now the team goes in and everybody's got incredible expectations. Just your thoughts on as the season starts and all of that and the responsibility to make something of it. Yeah, I mean I think everyone has expectations. I think the expectations are the highest are the people in our room. I think we want the best and we believe we have a really good team that has a really good chance at doing something special. So I think you obviously see what people say about us or write up but no one expects more than the guys in the room.

What do you expect from yourself? I mean before you answer that question, how did you view your season last year? Yeah, my season last year was, I think it was interesting. I think in a lot of ways I took good steps away from the puck. I think I matured my overall defensive game and playing without it and got a lot more trust from Rod especially down the stretch and being able to play on the penalty kill and in different situations. I think my offensive game wasn't where I wanted to be. So that's my goal this year is I finally got down the defensive part away from the puck.

Now it's time for my offense to take big strides and hope for results in the good offensive years here. How did your insertion on the penalty kill happen? Did you go to Rod and say I want to be a part of it? Did he come to you and say I think you've earned it?

How did that happen? I think I begged for like two or three months to get on the penalty kill. It's something I've done. I did a little decent on junior and it's something I enjoy. I like the, I like penalty killing. I like being out there. So it's a way to get more ice time and a way to help out the team and something I think I can be effective at and be good at. The center on your line, that Sebastian Ajo guy, he and Tevo Taravanen, I felt, and this is the year that Carolina went back to the playoffs for the first time, I felt that they both took their games to another level when they started killing penalties. They're obviously very good at it and you have been fun to watch at it.

Did either of them talk to you about it? No, not really. I mean what they have is pretty special. Their chemistry out there is fun to watch. So right now I'm kind of like, you know, with Quickie. So we and him are trying to build that chemistry, maybe not to that level, but we want to be effective out there and we want to be a threat to score, but we also know the main goal is to keep the puck out of our net.

You know, it's interesting. There's so many good penalty killers on the team. How many guys are waiting for their chance? Marty Natas used to kill penalties and I know he's still part of that mix as well, but I mean there's a lot of guys in your locker room that are really good at killing penalties. Yeah, I mean that's just the testament against the guys in the room and everyone's willing to kill and so I think just what we have our kind of group. We have, like you said, an extra probably four or five guys that can go out there and kill at any time.

Seth Jarvis is joining us here on the Adam Gold Show. I spent basically the first period and a half like laughing every time the stall line jumped on the ice. From the bench, what do you see when they go out there? With SOTIC-2 for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, you could show off your skin again and you know what that means? Beach day! As a TIC-2 inhibitor, SOTIC-2 is the only once daily pill of its kind for adults with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. Ask your dermatologist about SOTIC-2 today and learn more at soclearlyu.com.

That's soclearlyu.com. SOTIC-2 is a prescription treatment for adults with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who may benefit from systemic therapy or phototherapy. Don't take if you're allergic to SOTIC-2. Serious reactions can occur. Before treatment, get checked for infections including tuberculosis. SOTIC-2 can lower your ability to fight infections.

Don't start if you have one. Serious infections, cancers including lymphoma, muscle problems and changes in certain labs have occurred. Tell your doctor if you have a history of these events or if you have an infection or symptoms like fever, sweats, chills, muscle aches or cough or if you have history of hepatitis B or C, liver or kidney problems, high triglycerides or had a vaccine or plan to. SOTIC-2 inhibits TIC-2, which is part of the JAK family. People 50 and older with heart disease risk factors who use a JAK inhibitor are at increased risk for certain side effects, sometimes fatal. It's unknown if SOTIC-2 has the same risks as JAK inhibitors.

I think they just, they wear whoever they're playing against down and they're a line that I would really, really hate to play against if I was an opposing top line just because they're heavy, they play fast, they don't really make any mistakes and just it's basically how Cane's hockey is made to be played. Yeah, I mean the, well the the Martinook steal that leads to the Shea goal, what Jordan and what both Jordans did on the goal that that Jordo scored, did he try to make it more difficult on himself because it seemed like the goal he scored was more difficult than some of the ones he didn't. Well yeah, I think he just wanted to show off for everybody. I think he was just showing they still got nasty hands and and loose hips. He made a couple great moves there and I mean that back end was pretty special. It was just incredible under the bar, it was great. Who has the best sense of humor in the locker room other than you? Best sense of humor, oh goodness, we have a, we have a really funny, oh god, I'll give you a top, oh I could give you, I'll give you a top five. I'd go, wow, Marty, Marty's up there, Martinook, yeah, Pashy's got to be up there, yes, Burns has got to be up there, Tony's got to be up there, Natchez, Natchez is another one.

Really? Did Tony talk at all about the Phillies today? No, he didn't, he didn't bring it up, I don't think we have too many baseball guys on our team other than him. Oh my gosh, I saw him the other day, he's wearing a Phillies shirt, he's telling me he's so bummed about the loss in game two and I'm like, I think you guys might be okay but Tony, does he talk about the Eagles all day? Well right now our whole team's just hooked into fantasy football so we're all, they're all day everyone talks about is just trade and trying to make trades and stuff like that which is, it's funny but it's, it gets tiring because I lose every week in fantasy so I just, yeah. Who do you have, do you have anybody going tonight? You don't even know who's playing tonight. That's part of my issue, I don't really check, so I don't know, I probably do, I should probably, I probably have three guys that I'm even playing in my starting lineup so I gotta, I gotta focus in a little bit. You need to, you need to find out who's playing tonight, Seth, but that's all right, you're busy. I'm looking forward to a big year from you Seth Jarvis, I appreciate your time man, I'll see you at the rink soon, have a good road trip, you guys are going to be gone for a while, you're going to miss all the fried food at the State Fair. I know, I'm jealous. I will save you a fried, would you do a Snickers or a Milky Way?

Oh Milky Way for sure. Okay, keep, we know who needs the peanuts. All right Seth, have a good trip, safe travels and we'll talk to you soon. Awesome, thank you very much. You got it, Seth Jarvis here on the Adam Gold show.
