YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE:

Coming up on Judica County Radio, Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer, your hosts and managing partners, Whitaker and Hamer law firm, practicing attorneys here in the great state of North Carolina. We are going to talk about proposed laws being debated at the state level right here in North Carolina. That's all coming up next, Judica County. And Joe Hamer, managing partners, Whitaker and Hamer law firm, practicing attorneys here in North Carolina.

And they placed offices in Raleigh, Garner, Cleveland, Clayton, Goldsboro, Fuquay, Verina, Gastonia and in Moorhead City for your convenience. We always talk legal here on the program. My pleasure, Morgan Patrick, to be here and sometimes referee, but always it is a it's a good, educated conversation. We have some fun on the show, but we are going to get into proposed laws being debated.

At the state level here in North Carolina. But as we always do, we get rolling in a completely different direction. Josh, you know, around my house this week, the only thing that my kids are talking about, I don't know where it came from. I haven't done the I haven't done the Internet research. I hadn't asked. I don't know where the hundred guys versus one gorilla came from. Do you guys know where that came from?

I don't know. I've heard it, though. Yeah, it's just a meme.

If you were plugged in, if you cared enough about your kids. What they're into, man, you know, it's just a it's just a meme, man. That's all my my my kids. You know, it's crazy to me. I think somebody just threw this out there however long ago.

And then these things just catch fire. And then, like, I just seen something about it. So I mentioned it.

My kids had very detailed plans about how this would work. You know, I guess it's something their friends have been talking about. But I figured as adults, you know, as adults, semi professional adults, maybe we should have 100 guys versus gorilla plan, you know?

Well, can I ask a couple of questions probing questions? Do we know the actual size of the gorilla? I think it's I think it's a full grown gorilla. I don't think the gorilla one gorilla of average size. And there's all these very like, there's there's all these variations of it's like 100 of X versus a gorilla, you know? That's the main 100 100 Josh Whitaker's How many Josh Whitaker's does it take to take down one single?

One half one half a half? Is it a Is it a friendly gorilla or super angry? No, this isn't. This isn't a friendly train for movies gorilla. This is not smoking a cigarette or like you're in the jungle free for all.

It's a desert. This isn't a Disney animated gorilla. No weapons, no weapons. It's hand to hand gorilla combat.

And I don't know, man, I think 15 Josh Whitaker's gets the job done, man. Well, my kids, my kids had all these plans. Like, are you sitting in the first 10 guys and when they die, you make weapons from their bones.

And then good, man, your kids are really thinking ahead. And but how? I don't know, man, I guess. Yeah. There's a lot of logistical concerns. Like, what are we?

What are we fashioning the bone weapons together with man? I don't know, they they'd gone down. I think there have been some lunchtime conversations they had gone, they had gone pretty deep. And I was like, you know, I was thinking about the radio show. And in case you're listening for the first time, this is actually a show where attorneys talk about the law.

And you may not know that if you just turn in for the first time. But we never I never talk about anything fun. I talk about the law with your kids, man.

They must know with my kids. I talk about fun stuff. That's the exception with you guys.

I just talk about I talk about trust and wills. And we've been talking to you about how boring you've got. That's why we're we're choosing to never hang out with you outside.

So I think that's why I hang out with the kids all the time. And we want to train in for this gorilla fight just in case. Yeah, we want to state for the record, this is a hypothetical Chutica County and also Whittaker and Hamer don't want to hurt a gorilla. No, we never we would never if a gorilla comes up on us in the wild, I care about animals so much. I'm just gonna let it take me man. Play play. Yeah, I'm gonna hope it'll take to me and treat me as it's like slave or something alive.

I can braid its gorilla hair. The you know, I was searching around when the kids were talking to me, I had my phone, I searched around, there's a guy on Twitter, and I can't remember his name. But he made a he made a list of the 100 men that that he would call on to. So he had all these cool things. He had some UFC fighters in there. He had some people that would just be bait. Some of the guys were there to do commentary. But he said the last one he's the hundred thing on it. Yeah. Who did he picked a comment? I can't remember like Jim Ross is like wrestling a lot of wrestling crossover.

I never knew I needed this. And then the last dude, man, the last intro, he was treating it like the Royal Rumble. If you're familiar with that, he was like where people come in one at a time and take on the gorilla and the last one was the Undertaker. So I got to man number 100.

It was the Undertaker was coming back to save us from the the girl. But I told the kids I was like, that would be a good movie. I'd go watch that movie. Yeah, 100 men versus a girl of a movie and you got different celebrity cameos and like that.

God, man, you've been coming up with million dollar ideas left and right. Josh, you're you're saying, man, you would you would go to that movie? Yeah, I'd go that but they'd probably be hilarious.

You know, I have different boxers and cameo and athletes and and stuff. I need that movie bad. Probably a lot of special effects we're not capable of.

That's probably not one we could make and throw on YouTube. So if you got to have method actors, man that are actually fighting this gorilla. That's the only way it's gonna work, man. Now. Now, what is the end? What's the end game here?

Is it just controlling the girl? It's not killing the grill is I think it's killing the now you got to kill the grill. It's a death. I think it's Yeah, that's not gonna work.

Yeah, it's that organ. Good movie. You can't subdue the gorilla. It's a good I got a kumbaya and you got you got to figure out a I don't know how many a man versus gorilla fights you've watched on YouTube, but I'm just in in one way.

I'm just gonna ask my kids every day what they talked about at lunch and then bring that bring that to the radio show. That always be our ever seen you ever you ever looked into like some of the more terrible like orangutan. Going wild attacks and how they play out you ever seen that I've seen I've heard I've I don't know that I've seen them. It's not good. That's the we can't talk about it on the radio. I think Joe's watching them right now while we take not good.

Yeah, yeah, it's I'm super into it. I remember I heard a 911 call somebody played on some documentary or like a champ was ripping off somebody's face. Yeah, they think they rip things. That's that's what they do. That's the long and short of it.

And it does not usually go well, for the Rippy. I think I saw I think I was so I saw a documentary where they were talking about. I think it was like this doesn't sound right when I say it out loud, but I think it was like Elvis's people had a meeting with Michael Jackson and Michael Jackson still had bubbles and everybody was deathly afraid of bubbles. He was like in a cage.

Oh, yeah. I don't know if that's a real thing that happened or if I just imagine that. Yeah, I had a I had a buddy in in college who had wild animals and like he had like a snow leopard he had zebras.

What do you do with them? Looked at him, you know, and they were just like in a in a jar thing like he enjoyed. Yeah, he was just as he liked them.

I don't know. But anyways, he had they had monkeys to that little monkeys, not big monkeys. And you could go and you could you could get around all these other wild animals, but the little teeny monkeys, man. He's like, you can't he's like, you don't want any part of that.

He's like, they're not they look cute, but they'll ruin you, man. They're all they want to do is is in June, basically. You're an enemy.

Yeah, you're an enemy to those monkeys, for sure. Well, what I thought we'd do this week, legally speaking, is is not talk about that much longer. But there's a couple of it's been it's been on local news outlets. But this is the time of year where you have some House bills that are moving through the North Carolina House and Senate. And you know, there's a couple that have to do with guns.

There's a couple that have to do with abortion, raw milk and food. And no one really I thought this would be something good to talk about, because a lot of times you don't really unless you pay attention and a lot of people don't have time to pay attention. You don't really know what's kind of moving through the Senate and the House here on the North Carolina level.

And I I pay some attention to it. So I figured that's what we talk about today. But there's some hot button topics, right?

So gun laws, concealed carries, you know, abortion, all hot button issues. And we got pending legislation that you may or may not be aware of. But I figure that's probably for our show, a show about guerrillas in the law show by attorneys to talk about North Carolina law to people who are listening who hopefully want to hear more about North Carolina. The past couple of weeks, we talked about personal injury. What do if you were in a car accident? What is personal injury litigation look like?

We've talked about different parts of a trust and how you can tailor trust to be part of your estate plan. And so we've had a couple of shows in a row where we talk about how, you know, everyday law kind of applies to to you. And so this is going to be a show where we talk about some pending litigation that's in the new litigation pending bills that are in the lawmaking process. And I don't know, Morgan, I thought that might be fun. OK, complimentary consult.

What do you want? What area would you like to be talking about this week? I still if you're if you're listening to us today, you know, me and Joe, one of the things we like to do on the show is we like to give you a chance to talk to us for free. And I think we're going to still we're just going to keep the estate planning going. You know, we're getting to that part of the summer where kids are going to be out of school. Families are going to be together going on vacation.

I think it's a good a good time to to really talk about estate planning, talk about what a revocable living trust can do for you and your estate plan, get powers of attorneys done. So we'll we'll keep that going. All right. Complimentary consult available with Whitaker and Hamer law firm. All you got to do is call eight hundred six five nine one one eight six.

That's eight hundred six five nine one one eight six. Again, leave your contact information. And an attorney with Whitaker and Hamer will be in touch to line up that complimentary consult again with the law firm. And you can ask your questions when we return on Judica County radio, we will get into what the state is talking about as far as some of the debates.

House bill to allow legal concealed carry, I think, is first up on the docket. That's coming up next on Judica County radio. Welcome back into Judica County radio hosted by Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer, managing partners, Whitaker and Hamer law firm, and they are practicing attorneys here in North Carolina. They placed offices conveniently for you in Moorhead City, Gastonia, Fuquay, Verina, Goldsboro, Clayton, Garner, Cleveland and in Raleigh. And we do have complimentary consult.

You can call at any time. It's in and around estate planning. Eight hundred six five nine one one eight six.

That's eight hundred six five nine one one eight six. So we are talking about, again, laws being debated at the state level. And the first one up, Josh, you wanted to hit the House bill to allow legal concealed carry. Yes. So North Carolina, I think, you know, North Carolina is probably more pro gun than than a lot of states. Right. So it's probably and I'm not here to tell you that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I'll leave that up to you to decide. But, you know, North Carolina is more of a pro gun state than than some. And if you're familiar with the current process right now, you know, I have a concealed carry permit, but you can go get a concealed carry permit. You take a class, you go to a gun range, you get a certificate for completing the course, and then you have to go downtown and get fingerprinted and they do a background check.

You got to answer some questions at the sheriff's office and then wherever county you're you're in. And if you pass, then you'll get a concealed carry permit that you can carry around allows you to go buy guns without, you know, all the the normal requirements. And of course, you can carry in certain places. Right. You can't carry on government property. There's there's restrictions. You can't conceal carry if you're drinking beers. Right.

You can't be you got to have all your wits about you. What about liquor? Liquor to liquor is included.

You can do can be doing that. I understand the law. And so there's a couple of bills and these won't all make it. These are bills. So these are these are up for debate. They won't all make it through.

None of them might make it through. Right. But that's that's how concealed carry works now. Do you guys have your concealed carry? I do not. It's personal.

That's personal and private information, Josh. And it was this bill and compels me to tell you you'll find out when I need it. Find out.

That's when you'll find out. Look, man, when this when the gorilla rolls up, when this gorilla rolls up, I hope you guys are close to me. Yeah.

What do you do? I wonder how how many times you have to shoot the gorilla man to really do it, do some damage to it. You know, I guess it was all you had to be a crack shot. Yeah, I guess it depends on what you're carrying, you know.

Yeah. But but the bill the bill House Bill 674 Firearms Liberty Act, this is the one I think got the most media attention. It says it wants to if it's passed, it would allow residents if you're over 18, you can carry concealed guns without a permit. So there would be no concealed carry permit system anymore. If you were over 18, they would that would interpret, you know, the Second Amendment saying you could you could carry a gun. So you essentially there's essentially no use for a concealed carry. That's right.

Anybody over 18 could legally conceal. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So that's that's one.

Yeah. That's one. That's one bill that's out there.

And I've I've seen I've seen pros and cons to it. House Bill 193 is pending for for debate. Firearm law revisions bill.

The bill would make. So right now you're concealed carry. You have to update every five years, which is kind of a pain because you really don't think about it.

It's not something you like, pull out of your wallet and look at. Like, I don't know when mine expires next. I haven't looked at it, but it would make once you get the concealed carry, it's just lifetime. Right. You don't have to extend it right now. You have to go put another application in.

And I guess the sheriff's office make sure nothing news happened. You don't have a record. So now this is saying you get it once at this past. If you get it once, you're just you're good to go. And then there's some other bills that I don't. One one would allow you to carry handguns on private school property. So there's some other bills that just kind of change where you can carry once you have your concealed.

But I think the big I think the big one is, hey, look, you're over 18. You just go get your handgun. Yeah, you get your gun. You can do whatever you want.

Basically, that's it. So and, you know, it's pros and cons. You know, you get the people. You got a lot of people who like that, right, because they said everybody should have access to the gun. And if you make these laws restricting gun access, the only people that really affects are the law abiding, right?

The criminal element is just going to do whatever they want to see. Maybe you can make the argument an 18 year old needs a concealed carry to protect himself, depending on where he lives and what he he or she does. And I don't know, man, there's a lot of back and forth on that.

And the counter, I guess, is that they could just go get a concealed carry permit and do it still. But again, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Mm hmm.

The gun thing's tricky, man. It is. It is. There was there was a I don't know if you watch SNL. There was a sketch, a sketch on SNL. If you didn't see it, you give it a Google. Did you see that one? I don't know. Yeah, there's a lot.

You didn't give any. You said there's a sketch on SNL. Yeah, that's what they do. Yeah. So there was a sketch on SNL about exactly about how the Second Amendment got in the Constitution. It was from this past. It was from this past week. But I didn't catch that one, man. I didn't catch it. Did you did you see that?

I don't know how much I will you. I know you like the NBA. Did you? I we were watching the Canes game and one of my kids was watching the draft reveal on the NBA draft pick. You see that? You see how that went down? Yeah, man, that was a that was something else was a one point eight chance. Yeah, yeah, that was a thing that happened as well, man. I was really hoping for the Hornets really had high hopes.

Get Cooper flag on the Hornets. Well, I didn't I didn't I didn't watch it. But but afterwards, I thought they still took the ping pong balls and everybody was on stage and the balls came up. They did it. They just do it.

They just they say this is what it is. You know, I don't like that at all. Conspiracy, man.

I know. Why would why wouldn't you do it out in the open? I don't know, Josh. What's the non reasons? What's the non conspiracy theory reason for not having the NBA draft lottery? I think it's an exclusive conspiracy reason why you would not do it, you know? And I can think of no justifiable reason. But I mean, OK, this is the thing. You could still rig that like why, you know?

But I guess it's more of a logical question. You know, why not if you're going to rig it, why not at least rig it in a way that makes it look less rigged? Maybe.

I think that's hard to rig. If you're on the stage, you see him put the ping pong balls in. And then they used to have the accounting firm that was in charge of the results. Right.

They have like a guy in a suit with a briefcase. And then they would all everybody would be sitting there looking at the ping pong balls come up. I can't think about what I guess the hornets won't do anything about it. Right.

Because that's the thing that weren't to be sad. You know, I've been waiting for some help for Muggsy Bogues for years, man. Muggsy's out there living his life. Is he not he's not with the Hornets anymore. No, I haven't watched the game in a long time, man. So we went last year. It was the first time I'd been in a long I think I went to a game last year. I think it was the first hornets game I'd been to since Alonzo Mourning was on the team.

That's been a minute. Big fan of Alonzo Mourning. Those Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson, Muggsy Bogues, Del Curry teams. Those are good teams, man. Yeah, that was the I mean, has it been that good since then for us as Hornets fans? No.

Mm hmm. Our time is coming. You would think we are really going to clean up this draft. This is one of those drafts where after the well, you're a big Cooper Fly guy. I don't know how he'll translate to the NBA.

What do you know? He's going to be good. What do you what is your concern with him? He's a player. I think he's a very safe pick. I mean, I don't know that he'll be a superstar. I think he could be, but I'm getting my plays hard.

That's very skilled that plays defense very well. I don't know, man. I'm getting like Danny Ferry vibes. You think so? He's a little before my time. But I don't I don't think that's an accurate comparison. Yeah, I got more Latner vibe from him. I mean, and even Latner, man, I think flags exponentially more athletic. I feel like he can certainly my test. Yeah, he can certainly back out and shoot threes and think about trying to guard that. He's probably a better defender.

I would imagine, too. You know, I think he plays really well. I mean, he defends one through five needs to get bigger. I mean, we say this all the time about the college kids.

They need to get physically bigger because it's just a different game. Yeah, yeah, that's true. So if you so we we started the segment talking about the House bill to get rid of the concealed carry permit.

So anybody over 18 could could just carry and these these are all pending. Right. So if you had a strong feeling one way or the other, these are things where you could get into your local.

You could get in with your local state representative and, you know, let them know, let them know what you feel, how you feel about it. Either way. But that's that one. Morgan, we got a couple more to talk about. OK, we will get into those.

Judica County radio will continue again. These are proposed laws being debated at the state level here in North Carolina. We just finished up with concealed carry. And of course, the NBA draft. That's not being debated.

The draft lottery that's not being debated at the state. We could introduce a House bill. Yes. Bring back the ping pong ball. Something to help the Hornets. Right.

Something to help the Hornets. But anyway, we're going to get into a few more of these. And I think the next one up is going to be raw milk. I'm excited.

Raw milk debate coming up next on Judica County radio. Want to remind you, too, that we have complimentary consults available in and around estate planning. If you've got any questions, the importance of having an estate plan, just getting it all mapped out.

It is your end game. So, again, call 800-659-1186. That'll get you in touch with Whitaker and Hamer. Just say, hey, I'd like one of the consults for estate planning. It is complimentary and they will sign you up for that. 800-659-1186.

That's 800-659-1186. Again, we will return on the other side. Judica County radio rolls on. We will talk about, again, some of the latest proposed laws at the state level here in North Carolina.

We'll be right back. We are back on Judica County radio. Your hosts, Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer.

You can find them at Whitaker and Hamer law firm that are managing partners and they're also practicing attorneys here in North Carolina and they have offices located in Raleigh, Garner, Cleveland, Clayton, Goldsboro, Fuquay-Varina, Gastonia, and in Morehead City. Again, for your convenience, I'm Morgan Patrick. My pleasure to jump on and talk legal with the fellas, the attorneys. And we also have complimentary consults available during the course of this show and this week it is estate planning. If you've got any questions, just call 800-659-1186.

Grab one of those consults, come on in and talk estate planning and the importance of having one. 800-659-1186. That's 800-659-1186. Again, we started off the program talking about 100 gentlemen versus a gorilla. And then we got into, of course, house bill that's going to allow legal concealed carry.

And now we move to raw milk, Josh. Before we get there, I just wanted to remind everybody, you know, one of the reasons we do this show, this happened the other day to me where, you know, somebody that I know, you know, we're not best friends. We didn't grow up together, but someone I just kind of know that I see from time to time, you know, needed an attorney and had never really needed an attorney before and kind of reached out to us.

And we kind of got them squared away. But one of the reasons we do this show is because I think that happens a lot. I think, you know, me and Joe talk about it a lot. We're a statewide law firm and we're kind of set up to help, you know, that the average person we're set up to be able to address the legal needs of your everyday person who might be listening to the show. And so if you find yourself needing an attorney, we talk about a lot of different things on the show. We talk about estate planning. We talk about personal injury. We talk about civil litigation. We talk about real estate law. You know, we try to talk about a lot of things that are topical that are in the news. But we want to be a resource for you. And so if, you know, you need legal help and you're about to go to Google and just Google attorney near me or, you know, just reach out to somebody with no references. You know, we we would hope, you know, you've heard us, you know, over over the course of a couple of years every week, you know, call us if for some reason we can't help you. Hopefully we can help you with it.

If some reason we can't help you, we'll get you we'll get you to a to a good place. And so that's kind of our goal here. And so this week, you know, we're kind of talking about current active legislation. So these are things that are being heard by debated in the North Carolina House and Senate. And again, if any of this if any of this is something you feel strongly about, you can definitely reach out to your representatives and and have your voice heard. You know, on the local level, your voice carries a lot of weight. You can you can affect things a little harder on the national level. But on the local level, your support or your are you not supporting something is usually pretty important to your local representatives.

They don't hear from as many folks. But I put this next one on here. This is House Bill six or nine.

I've seen this come up a lot and I don't like this kind of law. Right. So so right now, the status, what you guys tell me what your perception is of raw milk. What is that? Morgan's a big raw milk guy to tell from his excitement and his voice. Well, you know, a lot of the potential anticipating anticipating this question.

I went to Web M.D. In reality, raw milk and pasteurized milk have similar health benefits, but raw milk is much more likely to carry dangerous bacteria. When it comes to drinking raw milk, the risk outweighs the possible reward. Mm hmm. Yeah. Apparently it's delicious.

That's what I heard through the great. It's milk. So I don't I have never been a fan of laws anywhere. State, national. This is not North Carolina specific.

I'm not a fan of laws where they prevent me from doing something that with the risk only affects me. Right. You know, like if I want to drink raw milk, I don't know why North Carolina has to get involved. I think it should just be between me and raw milk.

Yeah. You know, milk. It's like oysters. I don't want someone telling me I can't eat raw oysters if I if I want to.

I get it. It could make me sick. It probably won't, though.

But I just don't think there needs to be law and enforcement between me and raw milk. You know. Yeah. You know, maybe I don't know. This goes. You can you can you can extrapolate this out to certain drug laws, right?

You know, if I if I wanted to smoke crack. Yeah. Why does that? Why does that? I don't. Why can't you? No, no, man. No.

But why? Why does the why is you know, if it was the big it was the big it's always the marijuana debate. You know, if somebody wants to pursue that, is it really a risky enough behavior that the government should be involved, that we should spend resources preventing it from from happening? So are you going on record as supporting the legalization of crack? Is that I know I'm not prepared. I'm not prepared to do that today, Joseph.

I got to do some more research. But I think these laws that prevent, you know, adults from doing things, you have to really look at what kind of risk are you preventing? Because you're creating risk when you have law enforcement enforcing laws to keep people from doing stuff like this. But anyway, the long story short here is right now, raw milk is illegal. You cannot sell that an illegal adult cannot sell raw milk to another adult. It's illegal. I don't know what the penalty is for it.

I assume it's something because you can't do it on the first instance. Well, and it's not illegal everywhere. Raw milk is illegal in nearly half of the United States. But even the states where it is legal, there are laws that farmers and buyers need to follow. So House Bill 609 would legalize the sale of raw milk, cream, basically raw dairy products on farms and farm stands within 100 miles of the farm.

So that's kind of that's kind of the goal. And I saw some folks there was like a decent amount of protesting in favor of it. I guess that's not protesting. They were in favor of the bill. So some people came out to support it.

But again, kind of a libertarian argument. But why does the government care if I have raw milk? Why should that be a concern of the ledger? I mean, can you get addicted to raw milk? I don't know.

I don't know. Is there an addiction concern there? Maybe here's here's one possible concern. Laws requiring pasteurization can protect people from getting sick. About four in five disease outbreaks linked to raw milk happen in states where raw milk is legal in some form. Yeah, I saw the argument against pasteurization is that they they think raw milk pasteurization kills bad bacteria, but it kills the good stuff, too. I guess that you could get from milk. That's the argument is the bad stuff gets wiped out, which is great.

But the good stuff that can promote gut health and, you know, you know, And that delicious raw milk flavor. Yeah. So anyway, it's just something to think about. Like, I don't always think about that, that there's a group of elected people worrying about whether I can drink raw milk or not. And I feel like that's a waste of time personally. Yeah, I don't disagree with that, man.

I don't disagree. I'm going to join you on your raw milk crusade and say I fully agree with you. So I should tell you, I've never had raw milk. I've never sought out raw milk. My, my, my whole vitamin D milk I get from the grocery store is fine for me.

I had some cocoa pebbles this morning. It was delicious. Yeah. How much better would it have been with raw milk, though? I don't know. I don't know.

Maybe it's super good. And I was never know because North Carolina decided 100 years ago that we shouldn't have raw milk. Where do you think the bacteria comes from in raw milk? Well, let me tell you.

WMD. WebMD says animal poop or skin, soil, water or air in the barn. And also the milking equipment can carry the bacteria. So, you know, you're out there thinking raw milk, man. I mean, if you're out there thinking about drinking raw milk, I mean, as long as there are choices, like I can get the pasteurized. Go ahead, have your raw milk, have your animal poop or skin, whatever the combination is. We should all just drink a ton of raw milk and protest on the show next week, see what happens to us.

Maybe it will give us the strength we need to fight a gorilla. Maybe I'd be ripped. Yeah, maybe if I had been drinking raw milk my whole life, I'd just be ripped. That's the secret of all these super ripped guys we see out there. They're just pounding raw milk.

Just pounding it. All right, Morgan, that's a lie. I don't think I can talk about raw milk anymore.

All right. So two down and a few more to go. We are talking about proposed laws being debated at the state level. Maybe we should go and sit upstairs for the raw milk debate. That might be interesting. But again, we've talked about the House bill that's going to allow legal concealed carry and raw milk coming up next. Well, it'll be a surprise.

So stay tuned. We want to remind you that there are complimentary consults about estate planning. If you've got any questions about estate planning, call the firm 800-659-1186. That's 800-659-1186.

Leave your contact information. And an attorney with Whitaker & Hamer will call you back and set up that complimentary consult on estate planning. Again, more Judica County Radio coming up on the other side. Judica County Radio, hosted by Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer. Managing partners Whitaker & Hamer law firm, practicing attorneys here in North Carolina. Offices conveniently located, Raleigh, Garner, Cleveland, Clayton, Goldsboro, Fuquay, Verina, Gastonia, and in Morehead City.

I'm Morgan Patrick. Just a reminder, there are complimentary consults about estate planning. If you've got any questions, a very important Hamer estate plan, you can certainly grab a complimentary consult by calling 800-659-1186.

That's 800-659-1186. We are discussing the proposed laws being debated at the state level. Already discussed so far today, House Bill to allow legal concealed carry. And also, raw milk is up for debate, the sale of raw milk here in the state of North Carolina.

What is up next, Josh? Well, you know, like you said, Morgan, these are all House Bills. This is pending legislation that may or may not pass, may or may not become law.

And we're just taking a couple of them to kind of talk about today because that's that time of the year. This is this is all up for debate over the next couple of months. But House Bill 804, Human Life Protection Act of 2025.

This is kind of this. I don't think this bill would pass and I'm not here again to tell you abortion is right or wrong. Or I just want to point out what's being considered. So this is a pretty much a proposed ban.

All right. So before we talk about that, I guess, Joe, what's the what's the current state? You know, we had a couple of shows on this back. There's obviously some a lot of talk about this from the Supreme Court. The U.S. was kind of rewriting Roe v. Wade and kind of changed everything. But a lot of misconceptions out there that we had to clarify. And yeah, so we I guess anytime you're talking about abortion in North Carolina, you talk about what it what it currently is. Yeah. And so, you know, I guess to touch again on those misconceptions, you know, Roe v. Wade essentially eliminated just a federal U.S. wide right to abortion and took it back to the state level.

Right. And so that's that's that's kind of where we are now. And a lot of that outrage that we saw was folks. I think a lot of folks assumed that there was some kind of prohibition on abortion just in general as a result of that. And ultimately it was like we said, it was just it's just putting it back with the states. So it's a state by state issue now.

Yeah. So right now, the current law in NC State is, you know, abortions are banned after 12 weeks of pregnancy. There's a 20 week exception for the rape and incest and things like that. But that's that's kind of the current state of the law in North Carolina. There's laws of if a woman's going to go for an abortion, there's a waiting period after you consult with a doctor. And so that's kind of the current state of the law.

You might be a big fan of it. You might think it's terrible, but that's that's kind of where we're at in North Carolina. Some other states do have, you know, pretty, pretty significant bans in place. North Carolina is not one of those states, although, you know, if it's something you care about, House Bill 804 seeks to prohibit abortion pretty much 100 percent, with some exceptions. And so that that's a House bill.

I don't I don't think that's got enough. I don't think it's got enough support to pass here in North Carolina. There are also some other bills you always have this time of year. You always have some House bills, you know, about abortion ever since Roe v. Wade was kind of overturned. Very sensitive topic, very politically charged topic. But if that's something that is important to you, House Bill 804, whether you support it or oppose it, that's one that that you might want to turn your turn your attention to. But but always, always a lot of talk about that and how it's how it's handled. I'm just looking here at these other bills because there's a couple of bills that that that talk about abortion.

And I don't see anything else that that I would I would want to point out. But again, if this is something that's that's important to you, you know, it's very it's easy enough. You get on you get on the Google, you can figure out who your local senator is, who your local representative in the house is. And you can kind of take your concerns or your support straight to them. And, you know, I've had a chance to meet and talk to a lot of folks who serve as North Carolina senators and representatives.

And they they like to hear from you. I do know that, you know, I was I was talking to one the other day and they've been getting a lot of feedback. I guess, you know, again, we talk about some of the stuff that President Trump does, whether you're a fan or not a fan, it spurs a lot of people to to kind of get involved. He's a polarizing figure. And since he's been elected, they've heard from a lot of people. It's gotten a lot of people moving on the on the political spectrum, whether you, again, oppose or or support. But definitely a House bill to keep your to keep your eye on. And I know there's media outlets that kind of cover these things, but they seem to fly under the radar, which is why I wanted to kind of just kind of just point them out.

I do keep going back, though. This is not nearly as important. Why? Why did the NBA draft get away from the ping pong balls? I don't know, man.

Maybe that's your next House bill that you need to personally introduce. You know, the hornet I would be one eight for the bill to get the Hornets a first round pick for the Hornets overall their entire existence. I read this that maybe I'm getting it wrong and it's not quite right. I want to say, like for attendance, we've been in like the top two or three, like our whole existence. The Charlotte Hornets from so from what?

Eighty eight, eighty seven all the way until last. Well, we were horrible last year. Yeah, we were top two in attendance.

I think we were number two in attendance last year. Got a lot of potential, though, man. Always a lot of potential. And we got a new ownership group. They've they've had a year or two, but maybe they'll put it all together.

But. Oh, this was the other House bill. Did you see the ACC change their schedule so Carolina and state won't play twice a year? I saw they changed the schedule. I did not know that Carolina and state not playing twice a year was a was a consequence of that. Was it what they went to?

They go to went from twenty to eighteen. Is that what? Yes. So the ACC is basketball. This is basketball. ACC used to play. You had two rivals and we were Wake Forest and and Carolina. So you got a home and away with those two.

And they took one away from you to take the schedule from twenty to eighteen. That's unfortunate, man, because the state's going to be, by all accounts, pretty, pretty decent this year. Number one. Number one overall.

Number one. I hope so, man. I hope so.

You've been you've been hungry a long time, man. And I support I support state being good just so you can be happy, man. That's how maybe or maybe I need to reach out to my representatives and tell them how irritated I am that we're not guaranteed a home and away. It was bad enough when they took Duke away from us because we used to have the home and away with Duke. Right. And then we only we only see you guys once a year.

Yep. It's a new world we're living in, brother. Ain't what it used to be. Well, going quickly back to the Hornets, just taking a look in the last five, six seasons, they're in the top five for attendance. They average around eighteen thousand per regular season game. They were what we hear in North Carolina.

What is for punishment, man? It was I tell you, I will do the game I went to. It was slammed.

It was packed to the brim. We built we beat the Bucks. That was a good game. It's a fun one.

Is it a fun experience still, even with the limited attention? You know, the the the the fact that you're not winning a lot of games, I'm assuming it's still a good time. I mean, the Panthers games were always until recently. No, but I mean, you get bad enough.

The Panthers games weren't weren't. Yeah, I didn't go. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah, I didn't. It's like going to White Sox games. They always show those White Sox games.

There's like 12 people there. Yeah, it's Panthers attendance is going to make a rebound, man. I can feel it coming.

I don't know. White Sox, you know, new pope is a White Sox fan. So maybe that's going to bless the Southsiders up in Chicago.

Maybe possibly. Hey, we want to remind you there are complimentary consults on estate planning with Whitaker and Hamer. All you've got to do is call eight hundred six five nine one one eight six.

That's eight hundred six five nine one one eight six. Leave your contact information. And an attorney with Whitaker and Hamer will be in touch to line up that complimentary consult on estate planning. And again, you can choose the office.

Raleigh, Garner, Clayton, Goldsboro, Fuquay, Verina, Gastonia or Moorhead City. And again, it's complimentary consult on estate planning. That's eight hundred six five nine one one eight six. OK, one more segment to go. And that is going to be a wrap on this one. We'll be back on the other side and we will completely put a bow on Judica County radio. You're listening to Judica County radio hosted by Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer.

We'll be back right after this. We are back on Judica County radio. Josh Whitaker, Joe Hamer are your hosts. They're also the managing partners at Whitaker and Hamer law firm. The power behind this program. They are practicing attorneys here in North Carolina.

Offices conveniently placed for you in Fuquay, Verina, Gastonia, Moorhead City, Goldsboro, Clayton, Garner, Cleveland and in the capital city, Raleigh, North Carolina. I'm Morgan Patrick. And again, we go back and forth on the legal topics. And today we have focused in on proposed laws being debated at the state level. House bill to allow legal concealed carry, also raw milk. There's abortion law that's up for grabs on the state level.

And again, these are all big, big concerns here for the state of North Carolina. And we are touching on that today. We also had a little fun with the the meme that's out there. One hundred guys versus a gorilla. We also talked about the Hornets and the NBA draft. So we got a lot on the plate and we are going to surmise all of it right now. You know, I was thinking more about the the hundred guys versus a gorilla.

And, you know, in my mind, we talked about how it would make a good movie. And in my mind, I don't know if you're familiar with the WWE Royal Rumble rules, but basically to me, I was going to say I'm not familiar with those rules. I didn't know there were rules. Well, I think most people think the Royal Rumble is a free for all, man.

There's a lot of structure. Morgan, you can't have a battle rumble with the way I see this going down is not like a battle royale. Like every man for himself. Everybody's in there. I think it more of a one on one type thing. Right. So every two minutes you got the gorilla.

No, no one's doing it. I mean, the gorilla is going to going to crush man. Yeah, there's come on. You got to give the humans a chance.

Who are you? Have you been to the zoo? Have you seen a silverback? So you're in a ring.

You're it doesn't have to be a wrestling ring, but you're in a ring. The gorilla's in there angry. Super angry, like how they make the bulls angry before a bull ride.

He's super angry. And you start with we'll say I was going to say one. Let's say you start with you send two guys.

You got to send to at least two at a time. Now, can I ask a real quick question about the meme itself? Are there actual rules? Could we throw in a banana with a tranquilizer in it? Can we can make the rules, man? The only rule is no weapons, man. And now, Josh, and your hypothetical is this Royal Rumble rules. You just have to throw the gorilla over the top rope.

Is that what this is? Yeah, let's do that. That's a lot nicer than killing the gorilla. No one's doing that. No one man. I don't know that we said you send two in in the beginning. And then every minute you get another guy. So so you could if the guys can survive, you end up with a lot of guys in there.

But if the guy if the if the grill is just tossing them out one after another, then it's a bunch of one on one. Can you imagine being the third guy to go in and the gorillas standing there holding the second guy's arm? The gorillas are going to be he's going to beat you with it, man. Yeah, that's that's the thing.

I don't know, man. I'm not signing up for the guerrilla war. I might be on the guerrilla side if it comes down to it, man. I've got the look already. The grill is going to recruit people. Yeah. Accept me as one of their own.

But you said it like two really big dudes. Yeah. To start.

And then every well, every 30 seconds you get another dude. Yeah. I don't know, man. I don't know, man. I don't think we got a great shot. I'm real worried about it. I'm worried about how it's going to go for us. I'm surprised somebody hasn't tried to do it like one of those countries where there's like no laws, like anything goes, you know. It's not giving anybody any ideas. We don't really want to see this happen.

Like out in the outback. But all right. So with this.

Yeah. This show, we took a look at House bills. We took a lot of we took a look at pending litigation litigation. I keep saying that pending bills that are up for debate in North Carolina House and Senate and some of them more interesting than others. But there's definitely stuff there that I know people care about. You know, so we took a break.

We accomplished our goal this week. My goal was to talk about. Topical news items and not trust. Right. Because usually when me and Joe get together, we talk about estate planning.

We talk about wills, trust, powers of attorney. We'll take listener questions. I think that's what we're going to do next week. I think next week we're just going to open it up to listener questions.

Right. So if you have questions that you want a lawyer to discuss on air, how can they? Morgan, can you can you give them the information and how they can get those questions to absolutely.

Yeah, you can. Questions at Judica County radio dot com. That's questions at Judica County radio dot com.

Just send us the question. We'll create some categories. We'll have some fun with those listener questions. And again, obviously, in the legal frame, we don't want to get a bunch of questions about, you know, one hundred guys versus a gorilla. Well, this will be disappointing to you because you can ask those questions. I just want to go on record and say we will take those questions. We will take your hypothetical gorilla Royal Rumble questions.

That's not your last. Last week, we usually have you know, we have things we get sidetracked on that aren't legal. Like today, it's the hundred guys versus a girl. Last week, we talked about the Mandela effect and we talked about the Sinbad movie where Sinbad was a genie that the Internet tells us doesn't exist. Then can one of the one hundred guys be Sinbad? That might.

Yeah. Oh, what about a hundred Sinbad's? Well, why don't we see a hundred bad in first and let him work on the grill and make him laugh. Get him like that, man.

I like that so much. Well, two things about our Sinbad discussion. I went on Cameo because I wanted to get Sinbad to do a cameo to tell us about the genie movie.

What's the price tag? Well, he's not active right now. OK, so he it looked like he had been doing stuff on Cameo, but you currently you currently couldn't get him to do anything. But was there a price?

Could you see a price if you could get him? No, no. Yeah, he's he's. Yeah, we're very disappointed about that.

I'm gonna keep my I'm gonna keep my eyeball on that because that's a real low point when I found out that we couldn't. Yeah. A few years ago, we did the Cameo for our boss here at Broadcasting Experts, Pete DeRuta. And we got Gilbert Godfrey to do it.

And literally two months after he did it, he passed away. I got you guys now I'm a big fan. I'm a big fan of Uncle Pappy. You know, that is. Yeah, Uncle Pappy. He's the super positive older man. He's the guy. He's in Florida. Yeah, he's in Florida. You have to look him up. He's super positive. He's in Florida. He's always sitting in his pond drinking coffee. Yeah, but there it is. Sitting in the pond, lake, cigar, coffee. It's your spirit animal, basically.

That's the connection. He has all these everyday man. He's got like his positive uplifting.

And I don't usually like the positive uplifting messages. Did you check in today? What is it today? Did you check in today? No, I haven't checked in today. I haven't checked in today, but he's always got some philosophical.

You control your own destiny. You know, anyway, I really like him. Big fan. He is shirtless. He never has a shirt on. What's wrong with that, man? That's how I'm comfortable that way.

But I just I'm just telling our listeners that you're doing a show right now. If you check in on Uncle Pappy, he doesn't he doesn't wear a shirt. So, you know, is he in good shape? Is he in good shape or not? I think he's in good shape. He's in good shape. He's doing fine, man. He's doing fine. But we got Uncle Pappy to do a cameo for our for our kids when they were going back to school. We had him. He did like a pump up message for him.

It was really good. Can I get that here for my kids? Maybe.

Yeah, you'll have to scrub out my kids names. Was he shirtless during the cameo? He was. He doesn't wear a shirt.

That's you're not. Yeah, Morgan, you got to work past that because he's not going to have a shirt. That's what Josh's kids like about him, Morgan.

I told my kids, I was like, look, I got this shirtless older man. And I want you to talk to him. He's real positive.

He's body positive and positive. I like that, man. I like that. I'm a big fan. Big fan. If you're a fan, I'm a fan, man.

I like what you like. That's what I've decided. But I was disappointed. And the reason I brought up the Sinbad is because last week we told people to call in. If you remember seeing the Sinbad Genie movie. Right.

That's what we were talking about. Internet says it never happened. It doesn't exist. I'm pretty sure I saw it. I think it's a real thing. I told people, if you saw the Sinbad Genie movie to call in, leave us a message.

Tell us you saw it. Nobody's nobody calling in. Yeah, because. Yeah, exactly.

No one doesn't exist, man. We've already established that even though we thought we did. Yeah. I don't want to talk about the Mandela effect every week.

That's not my goal. But I did just happen to see a news item this morning about the Mandela effect. And it was the label and Fruit of the Loom underwear. Did you ever see this one?

No, no. Was this on your phone or was this on television? I don't know. It was probably my phone. OK, well, then your phone's listening to you and it's creating that for you.

Yeah, maybe so. But there's another Mandela effect example is the Fruit of the Loom underwear. I don't know. You're probably too young, but they used to have these commercials where everybody was dressed like fruit.

I wear underwear. We remember those. Yeah.

Grape, apple. Yeah. And so there's a contingent of people that think the old logo used to have a cornucopia on it, you know, the little horn. And it had fruit pouring out of it. And that was the logo. And Fruit of the Loom came out and said, no, we never had a cornucopia in our logo. Interesting. That's very not as interesting as the Sinbat Genie example, but. But I'm convinced it did. I think it, in fact, did have a cornucopia in the logo. So you're living an alternate dimension, man. I think that's what we decided here.

I have I have a very good memory and I think people are lying to me and that's what's happening. All right. So quick Google. And there are there are two. It says a great fruit of the Loom logo mystery is solved. They look like they're both trademark. There is there is a horn on one of them. I don't know if it's true or not. Yeah.

So maybe that will maybe that one's not a big example. It came up. Somebody was on my phone like. Yeah.

Tell me about the Mandela effect, but neither here nor there. I'm just sad no one saw the Sinbat Genie movie and I'll move on. I won't mention it again on the show. Until next week.

But what? Absolutely. Like Morgan said, we do offer free consults. We're kind of focused on estate planning this time of year.

It's time to do it. Give me and Joe a call. We'll talk to you about all the ins and outs of estate planning. Get you set up and talking to us doesn't cost anything. OK.

There you go. It is a complementary consult. And here is the phone number. Eight hundred six five nine one one eight six.

That's eight hundred six five nine one one eight six. Leave your contact information. And again, you want one of the estate planning consults.

And that's convenient for you at one of the offices, Raleigh, Garner, Cleveland, Clayton, Goldsboro, Fuquay, Farina, Gastonia or in Moorhead City. The opportunity for you to sit down and start putting together what is going to be your in game, your your final plan, your estate plan. You don't want it going to probate.

Have that estate plan in place. Eight hundred six five nine one one eight six. That's eight hundred six five nine one one eight six. Well, another edition of Judica County Radio is in the books. Things we discussed today.

One hundred guys versus guerilla meme. The Hornets and the NBA draft lottery. Also House bill to allow legal concealed carry. Raw milk also up for debate at the state level. And in, of course, North Carolina, recent legislative activity regarding abortion includes House Bill 804. That was on the program as well today for Josh and Joe.
