Somebody special today, somebody's birthday. Wait, what's that? Hold on. Drink a coffee.
Hold on here a sec. Oh, that's good coffee. Oh, yeah, Joanne. Joanne works with us.
She does the prayer ministry. It's her birthday today. Happy birthday, Joanne. So just saying happy birthday. And to anybody else whose birthday might be today. All right.
All right. So if you've been praying for my wife, just want to say thanks. She is starting to improve a little. I've noticed a marked improvement today. She was up and around walking faster than normal. Well, normal is when you're really hurt. You barely crawl.
She's walking. And so she's doing a little bit better, a little bit better. So praise God for that. All right. Now, so I have been reading a really interesting book. And it is interesting. And the book is Disillusioned, Why I Left the Eastern Orthodox Priesthood and Church.
And it's by a gay named Shuping. All right. Well, he has gathered a bunch of information from different places. And I don't just say, oh, it's true, whatever he says.
I have to go look for it. And one of the things he turned me on to was something called the akathis hymn to the holy theotokos. And what that is, akathis means to stand or to not sit.
Ah, the negator. So not sitting hymn, you have to stand. To the holy theotokos. What that means is the god bearer.
That means Mary. And so I was going through and verifying some things. And he had a quote from this document. So I went and looked at that document and did some research on it. It turns out it was composed in 556.
It is sung formally in the Eastern Orthodox Church as part of the Lent service. And, OK, so I always like to have things documented online where I can provide a link and someone can go to that very link and read it and check out the context. And a lot of places will have quotes from books. And people can't get these books a lot of times. And so I can't verify the quotes. So I don't use them.
I don't go check them out. And so let's read a couple of these quotes. Not a couple, but a few. And this is one of the reasons I was kind of late getting to the show here because I was getting engrossed by some of these quotes. It's just, you've got to be kidding me. And this is just out of this one document. And it says, it's addressing to Mary, OK, to thee, the champion leader, do we thy servants dedicate him a victory in thanksgiving. This is to Mary. Wow. And so let's see.
How about this one? Beholding the streams of wonders which pour forth from thy holy icon. Now, an icon is an image of a painting. And I'm going to verify some more quotes where the East Orthodox Church says, if you don't adore the icons, you're damned. If you don't adore them and use them in service, you're damned. So they violate the scripture which says, don't make an image of anything in heaven and earth that you bow down before it.
That's exactly what they do. And then they say that if you don't do it, you're damned. It means from the devil.
OK, anyway. Beholding the streams of wonders which pour forth from thy holy icon, oh blessed mother of God, in that thou art the good helper of them that pray. So she's the helper of those who pray. The support of the oppressed. I just can't.
To me, where are you getting this stuff? She's the support of the oppressed, the hope of the hopeless, the consolation of them that grieve, the nourisher of the hungry, the raiment of the naked, the chastity of virgins, the guide of strangers, the assistance of them that labor, the restoration of sight for the blind, the clear hearing for the deaf, and the healing of the sick. In thee do we thankfully chant unto God. Now, you know, can we say idolatry?
I can. Here, listen. Idolatry. See how easy that is?
It's easy to say idolatry when it's idolatry. Here, let me do this. Let me show you something in scripture here, all right?
So I've got something in my throat here, so I'm having to take momentary breaks. Okay, now, here we go. I'm going to go to Exodus 20, the Ten Commandments, right? And it says in verse 4, you shall not make for yourself, make for yourself, notice, you don't do it yourself, an idol or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them, et cetera, okay? So that's what it says in Exodus 20, verse 4 and 5. Now, there's other verses. Deuteronomy 5, 8, you shall not make for yourself an idol or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them, okay? And it said it again. So it's so simple. God says, do not, negatory, don't do it, stop it, refrain, don't do it. Okay, make an image. And they do, these icons. And then I get the documentation for where they say that if you don't serve them, you're damned. I got to verify that quote, okay, but that's another quote. And Mary is the support of the oppressed, the hope of the helpless, the consolation of them that grieve, the nourisher of the hungry, the raiment of the naked, the chastity of virgins, the guide of strangers, the assistance of them that labor, the restoration of sight to the blind, the clear hearing of the deaf and the healing of the sick marries all this stuff.
It's just ridiculous. And this is called from Kantakian number two. And cantar is to, in Spanish is to sing.
Cantado, you know, you have these things of singing. They sing these. That's what they do. So here's another one. This is from the same source.
Let's see, what's it called? Ocketh this hymn to the holy Theotokos, okay? Let's see, seeking, this is Icos 2, seeking to understand the incomprehensible reason for the bitter sorrows that assail us in need of concentration to thee, O mother and virgin.
So who do you go to? Not Jesus. No, no, no. Got to go to Mary. Seeking to understand the incomprehensible reason for the bitter sorrows that avail us. The trials and tribulations that we're under, you know what we better do? We got to go to Mary for that. Stinking idolatry. It's ridiculous.
Okay. It gets me going. You know, this is heresy. And it says for many of our transgressions that we might joyfully cry to thee, all right? And then several things are said.
Check this out. She is the calm haven of the tempest tossed. Sure confirmation of them in doubt. Let's see, only mother of loving kindness. So Mary's the only mother of loving kindness? Are you kidding? How many moms does that insult?
Let's see, how about this one? The ready helper of them in misfortunes and temptations. She's the ready helper. She is the one who does wash away the sorrows of our sins. That's blasphemy right there. She does wash away the sorrows of our sins.
She does that. I thought Jesus did that. This is pure idolatry. It goes on, thou that healest the grief of our spiritual infirmity.
Or how about thou that grantest us consolation and a life of grace amid our very sorrows. You know, I don't know how you guys are out there. I think a lot of you are sitting here going, you know, I don't care about this stuff. Well, okay, I'm sorry, but that's what we're doing today.
I'm talking about this stuff. It gets me. It irks me. I get irked by listening to such blasphemies.
How can anybody hold to this kind of stupidity, this idolatry? It's just amazing to me. It really is. I'm not kidding. Okay. How amazed am I? I'm amazed. Um, I guess more quotes. Let's see about this. Let's see. So I was doing it. I got more to go through this thing. I was just doing this today. I was reading these things like you've got to be kidding me. It's just idolatrous crud.
There's certain words I want to see in the radio. I can't really do it. How about this? Beholding the, this really gets me, beholding the crucified with him in thy heart. So Mary was now crucified with Jesus in her heart. I mean, you know, if I was taught, I plan on doing this on discord tonight.
I want to talk to some EO individuals and transfer my irk of being irked. I'm going to irk them and say, why do you do, why do you agree with this? That, that, uh, the beholding Z crucified with him in thy heart. So Mary was crucified with Jesus in her heart.
It's just, they want to get so close to elevating her to a functioning goddess, just like the Roman Catholics do. You know, when I say to people, the Eastern Orthodox Roman Catholic churches are not Christian. You know what I mean by that? I mean, you know, sometimes they're not that clear. Let me just tell you what I mean. I mean, the Eastern Orthodox Roman Catholic Church are not Christian.
Not. Their official doctrines on salvation lead to damnation. Their official doctrines on Mary leads to idolatry. These churches promote a false gospel, a false priesthood, and a false Mary. They are not Christian churches. Let me go on with this. This is, uh, this is an arena of Icos V from that same source. Thy son in God did say, woman, behold thy son, and to his disciple, behold thy mother, thereby giving thee all sons, all that believe in him.
This is a Catholic argument. And having in the, oh, they've got a break coming up. It's good because I was going to get irked before the break.
Hey, hope you're getting irked with me. If you want to continue to listen, please do. If you want to call me, the number is 877-207-2276. Be right back. It's Matt Slick live, taking a call at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick.
Everyone. Welcome back to the show. And, um, if you want to give me a call, the number is 877-207-2276. You know, I'm curious if you like me doing this. You like me reading these things and going through some of this stuff.
If you do, just call up. You can do that. And you can tell the, uh, if you want to talk to me, you can too. But you could just tell the producer, uh, you know, and he'll just write it and love it. You know, things like that.
Let me know. I'm curious if people like this or if they don't. Because the reason I'm asking is because this kind of stuff I enjoy doing. I really do. You know, and I got some issues. I know. I enjoy heresy.
It irks me. And so I like to deal with this stuff because I'm going to use this against them later. I'm going to have you talk to some EO people and say, what is with this? Why are you doing this? Why do you believe in this stuff? All right. So anyway, here's this, uh, more quotes from this, um, this called the, I got this hymn to the holy Thio. It's about Mary.
Okay. Behold, beholding the crucified with him in my heart. Oh, I already read that. That's so horrible.
It goes on having in the, a good mother, placing all our hope in the keep placing all our hope and the, our sorrow. You know, how stupid can you be? Seriously? How stupid and blasphemous can you be placing all our hope in Mary? What? You know, place all our hope in Mary. What is wrong with these people?
I mean, certainly what is wrong with them? I can tell you spiritually depraved, given over to the depravity of their hearts and minds, believing in a false gospel. Oh, okay. Uh, she is the, this thing goes on. She's the mother of the Christian race. Thou that didst adopt us at the cross of thy son. So Mary adopted us.
Uh, let's see. She's the cup that draws joy for us from the fountain of immortality. She is the surety of the salvation of sinners. Did you know that? Mary is the surety of our salvation of sinners.
How about that? Man, I thought that was Jesus. Uh, let's see. Um, she's the unexpected joy of sinners, raising up of all the fallen.
She's the healer of all infirmities, the alleviation of every sorrow. You know, it's just ridiculous. Uh, the blasphemy of the East Orthodox Church. Now I've done this with Roman Catholicism too. Uh, now what I'm curious is if the EO have any apparitions of Mary.
That's what I'm curious about to see if they have those too. All right, let's get on the call here. We've got an interesting call. Ebenezer, welcome. You are on the air. Hey, can you hear me, Matt? Yes, I can. Hello? Yes.
So, um, just, just have a quick question. So I was talking to an EO guy and, uh, he was telling me like what council or sin on, or what council gave you authority, a binding authority on the canon that you hold today, which is the 56 book canon. And I just didn't know how to answer him on that. You see, we don't look to councils for their authority. We look to the authority of God. The premise of the question is wrong, that there needs to be an authority of a council to do it.
That's the premise. When they ask me that, I say, uh, we don't look to any man-made authority to tell us what the word of God is. God is the one who gives us his word and the two sheep recognize the voice of the master. They recognize. They didn't say, oh, by our authority, we're going to tell you what the word of God is.
That's not how it is in scripture. They have it wrong. So, so like they, they would also, they would also say like, oh, um, like how did you come up, come up with your, your 66 book when it's, it's, it's always been 73 books. Yeah. No, they're, they're full of crap. I'm sorry, but they are, they don't know what you're talking about. So, um, it's always been said, no, it hasn't been.
So here, one of the things I'll do is I'll say, look, uh, let me, let me, let me test you on something. Did, did your church, your only true church, did it give us the Old Testament? Is that what happened? Your true church gave us the Old Testament. Cause their true church is the ecclesiastical body with the bishops, the presbyters, with the deacons.
They have the authority handed down. So that didn't start until, uh, you know, that theoretically in their church until Acts two with the movement of the Holy Spirit upon them. So I say, who is it that, uh, that authorized the Old Testament? The majority of the Bible? Was it your church?
I've had them say, yes. I say, okay, well, Romans three, two says, uh, uh, let me go to verses, Romans three, one and two. Then what advantage has the Jew or what is the benefit of circumcision? Great in every respect, first of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God. The Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God, the Old Testament. So God entrusted them. It doesn't say they were entrusted to the church.
It does not say that. So I say, did your church give us that? And then I read the scriptures. I say right here, it says it was that the oracles of God, they were entrusted by God, obviously. So they decided, uh, or they didn't, they decided, they recognized what was authoritative. And you come along now and say, our true church has the authority to tell you what the Bible really is.
We have the authority because we're the true church. It's just a load of just filth. Yeah. Okay. I didn't. Okay.
Cause I know, but the thing is that I wouldn't mention that verse that you were talking about, but like, um, I didn't know how to actually do it in that way, just the way you put it. It's just crazy. You know? Cause like they would always tell me like, where did you get your can?
Where did you get the can? You know? We got it from God. We got it from God.
I just say, obviously the same thing to them. I say, we got it from God. He gave it to us. I said, did your church give it to us?
They, I said to them, they say, yeah. Oh, your church gave us Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers. Then they will say, well, no, but they would always bring up, they would always bring up the new Testament. Like, you know, as far as like, uh, so I'm saying like, like, how did you, how do you know what was, uh, what was, you know, new Testament and you know, like how did you get that and stuff? Right.
They asked that, but you have to respond. The Canon of scripture does not become Canon by the church declaring it to be Canon. It's an important concept. When John, the apostle wrote, Enarche Inhalagos, in the beginning was the word. When he penned that, that was scripture. That was part of the Canon automatically.
The church didn't give it to us. God went through John, put it on paper, buddy. And he did. Enarche Inhalagos, in the beginning was the word. That's what he did.
John one, one. That's in Greek. That's what happened. All right. So the Canon doesn't become Canon. They didn't become scripture when the church goes, okay, we're going to decide. Okay.
Yep. That is scripture. We just told you it's scripture.
No. That's like saying what John wrote by the inspiration of God wasn't scripture until the church said it was scripture, which is ridiculous. So the church doesn't give us scripture. Their ecclesiastical authority doesn't give us scripture. And ask them, look, were your councils inspired of God? And they're going to say, yes. Yeah.
Okay. And then the thing is, no, but the thing is that, the thing is that like, like they would like, how do you know what really happened on at that time? Because, you know, even Tertullian was kicked out of the councils.
Athanasius was kicked out of these councils. So it was like, you're, you're assuming a lot though. Well, they assume a great deal. I want to know how they can declare inspiration without being inspired themselves. And then they claim inspiration. Where do they get that from? The Bible?
So then they say the Bible tells them that they're inspired, but the Bible doesn't say that they're inspired. It's just, they're ludicrous. Hey, hold on. We've got a break. Hold on, buddy. Hey, folks, we'll be right back after these messages.
We have two open lines, 877-207-2276. We'll be right back. It's Matt Slick live, taking a call at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick. All right, everyone, welcome back to the show as we deal with heresies and problems and issues.
The Christian gospel, the truth of God's word is under attack from those inside the so-called Christian church as well as those who are outside of it. All right, let's get back on with Ebenezer. All right, Ebenezer. Yeah. You still there?
Also, yeah, yeah, I'm here. Also, they also make the argument that, you know, well, artists, you know, massacred people as well. You know, was it as big as what, you know, the Roman Catholic Church did? Well, I don't know about that, but what I will say is whether or not they did or did not has no bearing what the truth is. The truth is that your church did not give us the Bible. What they want to do is they want to start attacking Protestantism because they're in a gigantic cult, and they don't understand the true gospel. They don't understand who God really is, what he's really done on the cross. They don't understand it. They have what's called the recapitulation theory of the atonement. They don't believe in penal substitutionary atonement. So I don't give them that. And if they want to go off of something like that, I'd say, well, because some people who represent your church do something bad, does that mean your church is false?
And if they say, well, no, I say, then don't bring it up. Let's get back to the word of God. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's say we started with the word of God is. Okay?
Yeah, yeah. Now, just so you know, there's no indication that the early church thought it had the same level of inspiration as the prophets and the apostles. No indication. But they'll say their councils did. And furthermore, if the church determines the canon, then it assumes that the biblical documents cannot possess attributes of self-attestation. See, the Bible is self-attesting.
It doesn't need anything outside of it for its validity. All right? Yeah.
That's what's important. Yeah. Okay. All right.
Yeah. All right. Thank you.
You're welcome. Okay, butter. God bless. Okay.
Now, let's get to Jermaine from the People's Republic of California. Welcome, buddy. You're on the air. How's it going, man? It's going, man. It's going. I was getting irked. I irked myself by reading heresies.
Yeah, I just hopped on, so I'll have to go ahead and catch back up. But my question has to do with Mark, chapter 16, verse 15. And just relating that, I don't know if you recall, but back in 2018, there was a young man who basically got killed by one of the uncontacted tribes out there at the North Sentinel Island. I don't know if you're familiar with that.
Yes. Well, what always kind of disturbed me about that is he seemed to think he was doing the right thing. And I know he was warned many times, and he kept going back. And I think even some of the tribe people were warning him in their own kind of primitive way. And I know some people condemn the young man, but I don't know if it was mental or whatever the case may be. But he insisted on following through with what he believed God called him to do. And it ended up costing his life. I mean, I don't know. I want to hear your thoughts on is there such thing as a right and a wrong in that situation? Because you have these people who have no real laws, who gave warnings, and then you have this other person who believes he's convicted of God to do exactly what he did.
And now he's gone. So I just wanted to kind of hear what you had to say about it. Well, it might be. I'm not saying it is.
I don't know. But it might be that God did call him to that, to be killed. Let me ask you, have you ever heard of the movie called End of the Spear? Yes, absolutely, and I read the audiobook, or listened to the audiobook, yes, yes, I have.
All right. Okay, so it's a true story. And years ago I interviewed the son who was there and a couple, three, four wives of the original missionaries who went in and were murdered by the tribe's people. And so they had guns on them, and they didn't, as the evidence showed later, they did not draw their weapons to kill the tribe's people who were attacking them. And so they were murdered themselves. They, in a sense, sacrificed themselves. It turns out that that opened the door later on for their wives to go in and preach. And so these people got saved. So we could say those gentlemen made a mistake. They went and got killed.
Well, was it a mistake? We don't know. If God calls any individual to go to a place and they lose their life, well, that's between that individual and God.
We don't have that privileged interchange or work, so we don't know. So I wouldn't say the gentleman who went to that central island and was killed. I can't say it was foolishness. I can't say it was of God. I just don't know.
But perhaps it might be used later as the fertilizer that causes the fruit of the gospel to explode there. We don't know. That's all I can say. We just don't know. You know?
Yeah. I think that's the most fair answer I've actually heard, just because there's way too much judgment being handed down by believers, actually. And you know, the situation just kind of perplexed me because, like you, I didn't know every single detail of what God was going through his mind, but looking at it from the perspective you just kind of planted that, that's absolutely true if indeed he was called and that's the first seed for the planting of the gospel.
And you don't know. You know, I have to say I did, I admired his heart regardless of what ended up happening. And I think it's an example to a lot of folks here who are afraid to speak at jobs and in public for being made fun of, but you know, some people are out there risking their lives, so it was very inspirational to me at the same time.
Right. Well, let me tell you a story my brother told me. And he did some mission work in another country and he teamed up with this one guy who's an incredible individual, who's a martial arts expert who had battled hand-to-hand combat, martial arts in Vietnam, just odds and ends, just stuff, and he was a Christian. And so he told my brother, my brother told me, so it's secondhand, but believe it or not believe it, this guy was in America in the States and he had an impression to go out onto the freeway and preach to the cars passing by. Well, I mean, he goes, if he went to his friends and told them this, they'd say, well, that's obviously not from God, you know, I mean, it's ridiculous.
Why would you do that? Because they can't hear anything. And he said, well, not only that, I'm supposed to wear, I forgot the color combination, it was something like, I'm supposed to wear a yellow shirt and blue shorts and with a big Bible and just preach to the cars as they're going by, and you know, that's obviously not a matter of God, it's ridiculous. So he dismissed it, but this feeling continued over and over and over again for months until he gave up and he said, I can't, I can't do this anymore, I'm going to go do this.
It doesn't matter, people laugh at me, I don't care, I'll get it done, I can go to sleep, I'll sleep ahead, I've done it. So he got a yellow shirt on, blue pants, not sure if that's the correct combo, I'm just using those as an example, but got a big Bible and went to a freeway area, he's supposed to be at, he thought he was, and got on the side of the road and started preaching and cars are honking at him and they're going by, you know, he's preaching the gospel. And then all of a sudden this one car locks him up, just passed as he passes him, locks him up, hits it in reverse on the shoulder, comes back, and the guy gets out of the car and starts running at this guy. So he's a martial artist, well he's ready to, let's go, you know, he's going to defend himself, and the guy stopped right in front of him and yelled at him and said, what do I do to get saved?
Just like that, what do I do to get saved? And well, this is what you do, you lend him to the Lord right there on the freeway. So, they went to a restaurant, apparently, or something, and they talked. And the martial artist guy, the Christian guy, said to the driver, you know, he goes, what happened? Why, why, why did you, on the side of the road, you know? And he said he was on his way to commit suicide. And he cried out to God in his car, if you're real, I'll believe in you and I'll trust in you if I come around the corner of that freeway, I want to see a guy out there standing there preaching the gospel with a yellow shirt and blue pants on. And so he goes to the corner and there he is, he locks up the brakes, he just gets out of the car, what do I do?
So the illustration, it's supposed to be a true story, so the illustration is you just don't know. God has his way of using morons like myself, broken vessels like myself, people who are filthy like my friend Charlie here. I can tell you about Charlie, he used to go visit the prostitutes in Mexico and got saved on the way back because his brother had to help him with a flat tire or something like that, gave him the gospel, he got saved. So God is sovereign, hey hold on Jermaine, hold on, hang up, we've got a break, hold on buddy. Hey folks, we'll be right back after these messages, please stay tuned. It's Matt Slick live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276, here's Matt Slick. All right everyone, welcome back to the show, let's get back on there with Jermaine if he's still there, you still there buddy? Yes I am. All right, okay what got us on this, oh yeah that's right, the guy who sent Colleen, he died, yeah, well like I said, who knows, we just trust that God has either sent him or of his own foolishness, who knows, you can't say.
You know, the story reminds me of the people who, sometimes I see some people are called to street preach and some are not, but I had a friend walk up to a guy and tell him if you don't come to the Lord you're going straight to hell and I thought that was a little harsh and a lot of people thought it was harsh, you know, the way he said it was a little bit crude, but the person found that I'm there and I said he just led him to the Lord right after. Yeah you're breaking up. Okay. Did he say it again?
Okay. Yeah just, I said a friend had told someone how he was heading straight to hell and I thought it was a little bit harsh how he had said it, but that same person found him, we talked about it later, and ended up thanking him for that, saying that that was in particular what he needed to hear at the time because it really just kind of shook him up and couldn't sleep and it had him seeking the Lord, that's not an approach for everybody, but I guess God puts on the person's heart what they need to say to the right people. Well my friend Charlie told me that he was coming back from Mexico, you know, doing the bad stuff with the prostitutes and stuff and, I don't know, flat tire or something happened, whatever it was, car broke down. He knew he had to endure his cousin who, we had to call him to help him, and he goes like he's going to preach to him and sure enough he's in the car, oh praise God I'm so glad, you know, and Charlie's like ugh. He attended Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma where he managed the university soccer team and graduated cum laude in 2014 with a bachelor's and Charlie's on the line, he's telling me. So anyway, what Charlie told me was that he was in the car with this guy and the guy said you got to believe in God, you got to trust in God, and Charlie said I believe in God and the guy turned to him and said the devil believes in God, you're no better than him.
And that's what got him, Charlie's told me this story many times over the years, he says it just hit him like a brick, sometimes it just, you know, it's what it takes, sometimes. So that's it. There you go. Alright. Thanks a lot, Matt. I hope you have a good weekend and Lord willing to be able to talk to you next week. Lord willing, brother. God bless. Alright, man. Talk to you later. God bless.
Okay. Alright, let's get to Steve from Utah. Steve, welcome. You're on the air.
Hello, Matt. How are you? I'm doing okay. Hanging in there, man.
What do you got? So, yeah, well, that story I just heard you tell about the blue shorts and yellow shirt. Yeah. Kind of reminded me of something I just wanted to tell you a little story.
It was back in about 2002. I took my daughters up to St. Anthony for kind of a wild weekend with a bunch of guys that we were all drinking. And I got really drunk, blacked out, peed my pants, embarrassed myself and my kids and everything else. So we pretty much, you know, packed up and left and I had a motor home at the time.
And we're on our way back on Sunday and right around McCammon, my motor home through the fan bill. So we pulled off the side of the road out in the middle of nowhere. And we're trying to figure out what to do because there's nobody around, there's a house down the street. We couldn't figure out what we were going to do.
So anyway, I had my one daughter was probably 10 and my other daughter was maybe 13. And up pulls a truck. And he says, hey, man, have you got some oil? And I says, yeah. He says, can I buy some oil for me? I says, no, I'll give you a couple of quarts or whatever. I says, I got my own problem.
He says, what's the matter? And I says, well, I blew a fan bill and I'm not quite sure what to do. He says, well, I've got a brand new fan bill in the back of my truck. And it turned out to be the exact right size.
What a coincidence. And right after we left, my 13-year-old said to my 10-year-old, well, that was pretty cool because my 10-year-old said a prayer while she was there, asking God to help us. That was about the point that truck showed up and we traded some oil for a fan belt. I put the fan belt on and we made it home. And I mean, I was extremely embarrassed for one thing.
It wasn't a very good weekend. So anyway, at that point, see, I'm an ex-Mormon and my one daughter always went to the LDS church with her grandmother. Well, I was a Jack Mormon anyway, and I never, I wasn't active.
So I thought that was, it was really kind of eye-opening. Myself and my daughter is no longer Mormons. We resigned officially from the Mormon church and we're now Christians. I've been a Christian since 2018 and my one daughter, the one that prayed, is the one that got me going to the Christian church, the non-denominational Christian church.
And she's the kindest, most kind-hearted person there ever was and she's, you know, we're not Mormons anymore. And you know, to me, that was, that was an absolute miracle. Sure. Yeah, things like that happened. Yeah, it just, it just popped into my mind when you said that.
Just you know, I couldn't write it off as a coincidence because it was the exact right fan belt. Yeah. It, this, it perfect because we had no idea what to do. We were stranded. So yeah, it was just a little story I wanted to tell you.
That's pretty much it, you know. It was, it was nothing short of a miracle and you know, that didn't bring me to God. But years later, when my daughter started going to the Christian church, about a year after that, I says, hey man, why don't I go with you? And from then on, that's our time together.
That's what we do every Sunday, we go to church. And so, I mean, it was probably 15 years later that I, I decided to resign based on everything that I found out. So I'm no longer on the rolls with the Mormon church, neither is my kids. And we're closer than ever, you know, they were, yeah, and you know, and I, yeah, and I became sober about, you know, I'm going to say 11 years ago. So I don't know, I mean, it just took, it took a little time. And every time, that's just something that always stuck with me. And I just wanted you to know that, and the listeners to know that things like that happen and it's just, you can't say it's a coincidence. So I just wanted to tell you, I thought it was interesting and that story made sense and it, it kind of hit home to me, just one little thing, you know? So anyway, I just wanted to tell you and want to tell you to have a nice day. I listen to you every day on my way home to work, you know, so anyway, I will let you go.
I just wanted to tell you a little story. All right, brother. Well, thanks. Thanks, Steve. Appreciate it. Okay. All right, man. Thanks, guys. God bless you. Bye.
Bye. You know, he, he reminded me of a story someone told me once. I haven't had anything happen like that that I remember, but this story was recounted to me by this guy. He goes, look, I'm going to tell you what happened to us one time. I said, okay. He and some buddies were out in a little VW bug, I think two, three of them in this bug and drought in some, it's SoCal, there's desert areas out in SoCal.
People don't know about that, but there are out towards the east part of the Southern California area. And so they were out there having fun and doing stuff and driving around and I forgot what happened, but one of their buddies, one of the guys got injured pretty badly, was outside the vehicle, hit a Murray, fell on a rock, I forgot, but he said he was bad. They needed to get him to the hospital, to ER quickly.
And so, oh no, it wasn't, okay. It wasn't a, I remember this now, it wasn't a VW, they were driving, they were driving a different vehicle, all right. And so they went to get in the car to start it, to come back and the car wouldn't start.
And either the injury occurred while they had a car accident or something, I forgot the details. What I remember is a guy drove up in a Volkswagen, that's what I remember, it's been a long time since I had to recount this story, a guy drove up in a VW and just by himself and said, whoa, you guys okay? And he goes, no, we got to get this guy to the hospital and et cetera.
He goes, okay, hop in, hop in. So they got him into the bug and drove him to the hospital. And I think one or two of the guys went with him in the bug and the other guy stayed there or two guys stayed. Anyway, so there they are and they get him to the emergency room and basically saved his life.
And so, the friends were so intent on the buddy that, that's right, both of them went, that's right, now they all went. I remember now that they were sitting there looking for the guy who drove him in from the Volkswagen and they couldn't find him. And so they looked and they asked people, the guy who came in with us and it was nobody saw him, nobody knew who he was, there was no record of him, it was nothing. He just disappeared. Had a Volkswagen, did this and then just disappeared. And the way the guy was telling me, he said, it was as though we were the only ones who could see him because nobody recognized him. We came in there, the people said, no, you were by yourself. And so, anyway, stories like that, you know, just stories like that. God does his stuff.
Anyway, I remember, I haven't talked about that for a long, long time, but I'm remembering it more as I, as I recount it. Hey, look, we're about out of time. We've got about 20 seconds. I just want to let you know that we stay on the air by your support. If you would be so kind to consider supporting us, maybe five or $10 a month, that's not very much.
