Welcome to the Kerwin Baptist Church broadcast today. Our desire is for the Word of God to be spread throughout the world so that all may know Christ. Join us now for a portion of one of our services here at Kerwin Baptist Church, located in Kernersville, North Carolina. Amen.
Now, you know why I hate that they can only do two tonight, but I don't want you to get restless on me and do too much singing. Brother Kenny, come on up. And we're so blessed to have Brother Kenny Baldwin. The last time we had him before COVID and all this hit, and when he got hit with COVID, our church prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed, and we updated our church. And we just consider this an answer to prayer that he is back in our pulpit just to us.
And. Praise God for that. And he is a friend to our church. He's a friend to each of your churches. And he doesn't need an introduction.
And I love you. And we just praise the Lord that he's allowed you to keep doing what you're doing. And I don't know about you. I don't know what we'd do without this man. And he is the real deal.
And we're glad he's here tonight, Brother Kenny, all yours. What a joy it is to be here. Amen.
Only by grace. I like that gray stuff, don't you? And I'm thrilled to be here. And I appreciate the music. As far as I'm concerned, they could have sung 10.
All the choirs could have sung ten.
Somebody said, you're going to sit in here for all the music? I said, I need all I can get. And I'm so glad to be here. I appreciate Your pastor, he has been a friend and a dear encouragement to me. And I appreciate everyone that's prayed.
I have said a thousand times, and I'll say a thousand more, I really believe I am alive because of prayer. And there's nothing that God has burdened me more about the last three years than prayer. I pray about everything. And God has been so gracious to me. I'm so thankful for our wife.
I wish she could be here. One of our daughters is being homeschooled. A couple of our kids are in Christian school. One of ours is out of school. And so she has to pick and choose.
When she's going to go with me. And when she's not, I'm a mess. I left my hotel keys in the room. I left my watch in the room. I had to go back and get my watch, but I couldn't get my watch because the keys were in the room.
I had to get new keys from the hotel desk to get my watch. Got into the room, found my watch, found my hotel room key.
So now I got three keys. But I'm here by the grace of God. I really appreciate all the churches that are here. If you're a pastor in the area, and you came over on a Monday night when you could have been doing something else. I'm so humbled by your presence.
For this church, I'm thrilled that you're here. I was pulling up and I got to the parking lot, and I thought, I think that's the building. I don't see nobody going there. And I started following the crowd. You know, they said, don't follow the crowd.
No, no, no.
Sometimes you better follow the crowd. You're going to be in a dark building, all right? And when I'm in a dark building, I can't even see my hand. Maybe this side of it, but not that. Um Mm-hmm.
So I followed the crowd. And everybody's going that way, and they said, Education building, education building, education building. I said, We're going to learn something tonight. We're going to education building.
So I understand that this is where you meet. It's a good problem to have, isn't it? Everywhere else is getting filled up. The malls are full, the stadiums are full, the nightclubs are full.
Somebody fill up the house of God. And so I'm thankful to be here. I want to thank the church for their gracious hospitality to me, giving me a room to stay. They told me I could come last night. We'll have it there for you.
And I didn't, I didn't make it last night, but got in today, and I'm thankful for it. Brother Frank, I don't know that I've met you. If I have, it's been a long time ago and I forgot you. That's you. You've been so kind.
So kind to me. and just so accommodating and I so appreciate it. I want to think that I always appreciated kindness. But I really appreciate it now. I take time to appreciate it.
Told the Lord, I don't want anybody that does anything for me to go unthanked. And so I'm just so grateful for every single person. And I appreciate this church. and what God is doing through you. Why don't you take your Bibles tonight and open them to the book of Psalms?
Psalm 86, this is the 86th division in the longest book of the Bible. Would you stand to your feet for the reading of God's Word if you're physically able? I know what you're thinking. The nerve you tell us stand when you're sitting down.
So if you don't get up, I'm not offended. Psalm 86. Can you hear me well, thanks? I spent all these years breaking sound systems because I was too loud.
Now they're trying to figure out how to get me loud enough. It is interesting, isn't it? I'm learning that God doesn't need my style, but I sure need God's substance. These last days, we need a desperation for God's Word. And I argued with the Lord and my wife.
I was I was coming back from COVID and I was preaching. And the church and And she, I was preaching about 10 minutes. About 10 minutes was all I could do. And so I was standing on the pulpit and I was leaning on the pulpit like this. And she's she's sitting in the service like this.
She wouldn't look up while I was preaching. And so I'd come home, she says, I cannot look at you. You just make me nervous. You're breathing, and you're leaning over the pulpit. And she said, you know, you really ought to put a chair up behind the pulpit when you preach.
And I see it. I'm a grown man. I'm not. Don't put no chair up behind no pulpit while I preach. What do I look like with a chair behind the pulpit?
Do you know who you marry? She said, Okay. Mm.
So I was in pulmonary rehab. And so my therapist said, What do you do? I said, I'll pastor. She said, Well, my church is not back in session yet. I said, ours is.
She said, well, I'll tune in this Sunday.
So I gave her the information, and I left. Rehab on Friday, and I went back on Monday or Tuesday. She said, I watched your service. I said, Praise the Lord. She said, It was such a blessing.
She said, you know, I was watching you. She said, you lean over the pulpit up there while you're preaching. She said. You really ought to put a chair up there. I said, you really ought to jump in a lake.
I didn't say that part. I was thinking it though.
So if you think it in heaven, you get credit for it.
So I went back and I said, honey, you know, maybe you're right.
So I called my mom and she said, oh, anything you need, my mom's got a nice one of it.
So So she said, I got a nice chair, and she brought the chair going.
So I put the chair up, but this is, I don't know, it's been two and a half years. Sets up. been sitting in this chair and I'll just be honest with you. I wrestled with it for a while. I really, really, genuinely struggle with it.
It was a pride problem. I said, nobody's going to listen to me from chair. Nobody's going to hear me. The moment they see me, I'm going to look weak. They're going to laugh.
These are all these things you listen to people talk about. They say, that sounds so stupid till you hear it and you're here. And um And uh finally I told the Lord, Lord Until I agree with you.
So you don't need me. And I need you. I'm going to keep struggling with this. When I finally decided I wouldn't worry about how I look, We're about pleasing God. I never thought about it again.
So now I think if I get back to 100%, I'm still going to sit in the chair. It's kind of like. Maybe onebody gave me one of them swipper ones. I'd be spinning around, moving in the chair. I do chair dances.
And uh Have a good time. Psalm 86. God brought me to this psalm when I needed it. I really needed it. When I get up in the morning, I read the Bible every single day.
I think every Christian ought to read the Bible every day. I didn't come here on Monday night to hear something basic like that. I'd be surprised. How many don't do it?
So I get up in the morning and I go to Proverbs. Today's Proverbs, uh today is March the 13th.
So I read Proverbs chapter 13 this morning. And then I read five Psalms in the Bible every day.
So I read through the Psalms every 30 days. And I go to the Old Testament, I read four chapters, and I go to the New Testament, I read two chapters. That helps me read through the Bible. twice a year. And the amazing thing about the Bible is that it's alive.
Hebrews chapter 4, it's quick, that means it's alive, powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to dividing a son of the soul and the spirit, the joints, and the marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. See, people say, I carry my Bible. The question is: does your Bible carry you? I read my Bible. Does your Bible read you?
It's amazing how the Bible looks into your life at where you are and what you're facing and gives you exactly what you need. You go, I read that before. I've read it before. I know I've read it before. I got it marked in my Bible.
I've read other verses around it. I've preached out of this text and I didn't preach it. But this time, that verse means something to me differently than it ever did before.
Somebody tell me God ain't real.
So I was here in Psalm 86. Here I was, God knew what I needed.
So tonight, Pastor, I'm preaching this song because this is what I couldn't get off my heart. David said in Psalm 86, verse number 11: Teach me thy way, O Lord, and I will walk in thy truth. Unite my heart. To fear thy name. Uh senior promoter.
Are we calling this a revival? Is that what we're calling it? We don't know if it's a revival. Let's revisit the question next week. We have no service.
I've preached a lot of revivals, and there weren't revivals. Oh, the answer. Wilt thou not revive us again? The greatest need for mankind, the greatest need for mankind is evangelization. Every single person in the world needs to be saved.
And I don't care what the theologians say. Listen, he can put his glasses down here and he can have danger fall over his jacket. I don't care what he tells you. Jesus died for the whole world. I don't care how many degrees he has.
I don't care how many college classes he teaches. I don't care how many books he's written. He cannot take this book and convince me that my Savior died for some people and deemed that others go to hell.
Well, if that's your persuasion, you have that right. You have the right to be wrong. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise that some men count slackness, but his long-suffering us were not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. For God so loved the Lord. World that he gave his only begotten son.
And he's a propitiation for our sins and not for our sins only, but for the sins of the whole world. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. There's one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all to be testified and due. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men. He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities.
The chastisement of our peace was upon him by his stripes for him. Wherefore as by one man sinned into the world, and death by sin, so that death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. I give unto them eternal life, they shall never perish. Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
This is the record that God has given us eternal life. This life's in his son. You got the son, you got life. You don't have him, you don't have life. I've written this unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
That you may believe on the name of the Son of God. I'm not even preaching my opinion, I'm just quoting the Bible. Greatest need for mankind is evangelization. Greatest need for the church is revival. Who's the church?
The church is The assembly of born-again believers. Gathered together for the express purpose of glorifying God and reaching a lost and dying world. We need revival. On Monday night, 2023, we need revival. I got bad news for you.
I can't bring it.
Now, if you want to come up at my house on Sunday afternoon about 5 o'clock, I can't give you revival, but I can give you fried chicken. I fry chicken every Sunday and eat it at 5 o'clock, along with macaroni and cheese that I use eight cheeses in. You'll come to my house on Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock. I will fry you some chicken that will make you slap your mama. I'm for real, so you better not bring her with you.
Because fried chicken is a foolish reason to go to jail. And if you ain't saved that day, you might just die and go to hell. I fry you some chicken. I can't give you revival. I can't even give me revival.
But I know a God who can. And there's still something, something special. about the people of God. Setting aside a couple days. Same we need revival.
I was watching though. The Players Championship yesterday, golf. I haven't swung a golf club in several years, but I sure like watching it. Especially when Tigers play. There's a Pharisee in the beginning.
I don't like Tiger. He's just a sinner.
So are you? I pray you get saved. He's a good sinner to watch golf, though. Good gracious alive. I was watching the players though and I was thinking about one of the tournaments a couple years ago where the wind was blowing.
I mean it was blowing. And a guy was hitting the ball and he hit it and he hit it and Get it right when a gust of wind was, and the ball went about 40 or 50 yards longer than he typically hits it. And the announcers were saying, boy, that ball just got caught in the wind. Preach on praying. at some time in these next two days.
The wind blows through here. And some sincere believers will do what Christians do. and just get caught in the wind. It's revival. I believe it's Bound up.
In this verse. Unite my heart. If you're that new.
Now Father for Our blessing we plead. Cleanse me of sin, empty me of self, and fill me with your spirit. Help me to be a blessing. Highly behind the cross of Christ. Use this precious book like you've done time and time again to change hearts.
That old lying devil, would you bind him, put a head of protection about this place that in no way he'd hinder the work of the Holy Ghost of God? What you do, what you do, you know what you're doing. Help us to cooperate with the sweet Holy Ghost of God.
Now, up the road, about four hours and forty minutes or so. Would you watch over my precious wife and my family? File and go. In Jesus' name. Amen.
You may be seated. Thank you for standing. I love to listen to David talk. I love to listen to the Psalms. The Psalms are centered on praise and worship.
And I think there's praise and worship on our service schedules, but very few that understand praise and worship. I mean, we don't praise God for what He's done, we praise God for who He is. We worship him for who he is. Strong says we We fawn at him like a dog licking the hand of his master. I've got a dog, we got an American bully at home.
He's big, about 95 pounds. And when you come in the house, you better brace yourself, or that joker will knock you down. He's happy you got home. I don't know about you. The child of God ought to be happy when God shows up.
David knew something about praise and worship. I enjoy the humanness of David. He's so transparent with us. He shows us his weakness, his flaws. He exposes us to all of his humanity, his frailty, and he talks to God, and we get to hear it, and we can hear that this guy was just as normal as we are.
His entrance onto the pages of Scripture is an interesting one. Saul is looking for the next, Samuel is looking for the next king over Israel because Saul has been rejected. He gets sent to the house of Jesse, and all of these boys come out, and they all look like the next king, but he doesn't get a word from the Lord. How many of you know you can't always go on what looks right?
So finally, you got another one? You got another one? Yeah, we got another one. He's in the back watching sheet. Bring him up.
Here he comes. God said, that's him. It's him. He's the next king. You see them on the battlefield.
He's just up there obeying. His daddy. Hey, young people, what do you do right now? Obey your parents. You might just walk up on destiny when you're doing what you're supposed to do.
And all of a sudden he sees a cause and there he's swinging that slingshot and boom, it hits Goliath in the middle of the head. He falls down, climbs up on his back, chops his head off with the man's own sword, holds it up in the air. Woo! They're screaming. That's David.
Look, Saul has an evil spirit on him. They're looking for somebody to play an instrument to soothe the evil spirit. Watch this now. The devil's in the palace.
Somebody needs to get the devil out the palace.
Now, listen to the recommendation of David. He's pretty good looking. He's a warrior. He's prudent. He's talented.
I mean, he's a pretty sharp guy. Here's the best recommendation you can get on you. The Lord is with him. The Lord is with. Look, we got the devil in here.
We need the devil out of here. We got the devil in here. We need the devil out of here. The best thing to get the devil out of here is to get God up in here. The best way to get God up in here is to bring somebody that's got God on him.
Listen, thank God for choirs, thank God for singers, thank God for vocalists, thank God for where you hold the mic and the way you use your vibrato and the way you know your words and the way you stand uniformly together. But let me tell you something, we need some people of God that are musicians, that the Lord is with them. Sweet psalmist of Israel, a man after God's own heart. Luke says in Acts, he served his generation. Listen to me, if God says you have a heart like him, that's a pretty good compliment to pay.
Yet in Psalm 86, He's as scattered as scattered can be. He's a king, he's a father, he's a husband, he's a leader, he's a general, he's a counselor. He's a role model. It's a lot of hats to wear, isn't it? And I sensed David in Psalm 86.
Trying to figure out how to keep it all together. He uses the word heart in our text verse, verse number 11. Here's the word heart. We're not talking about the organ that the cardiologist looks at. I went through a lot of heart tests.
They said, well, you need an echocardiogram, and you need a stress test, and you need this, and you need that. And they hook all these magnets up to you, and they check your heart to make sure it's pumping right. By the way, you want your heart pumping right. Can I get an amen? But when David says heart, he ain't talking about the organ.
He's talking about our mental center, our emotional center, our volitional center, our mind, our emotions, and our will, where we think, where we feel, where we choose. At the heart of the matter, it's. A matter of the heart.
Solomon said, Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. Most of us have our cars locked, our houses locked, we got a password on our phone, but our hearts are vulnerable. You worry about somebody breaking in your heart, breaking in your home. You better worry about somebody breaking in your heart.
So he mentions his heart. And he's begging God to unite his heart. See, when you ask God to unite your heart, you're admitting in so many words, I'm all over the place. Here's what he's saying: if my heart is not united, that means my heart is divided. That means my mind's one place, my emotions are another place, my will is another place.
Come on, keep it real now.
Some of you are at church with your body, but your mind's somewhere else.
Sometimes our feelings Or somewhere in our body is another place. Life is kind of like the game of golf. Like, when you drive goods, you can't hit your irons. When you hit your irons, you can't chip. When you chip, you can't putt.
When you putt, you can't hit it out in the sand. If the whole game would ever show up on the same day, you might be doing something.
Now I'm talking to people that have to live life. There's a businessman in here. You're sitting here in revival and you're trying to listen to the message. But in your mind right now, you're battling, how am I going to pay my bills? How am I going to finish this project?
There's a wife that's got to get up tomorrow morning and homeschool her kids and you're thinking, how am I going to get in bed in time enough to have the energy to homeschool?
Somebody's got to go to work tomorrow and you're already tired and you hadn't even gotten to tomorrow yet.
Some of you are still trying to recover over the hour you lost yesterday. There's a teenager in here that's sitting here. You don't want to be here, but mom and daddy say you're going to go, or we're going to kill you.
So you say, okay, I'll go. You're listening to this man preaching. You want to do right, we're telling you, stay pure and listen to the right music, and stay off of pornography, and stay off that phone, and stay off that internet. And girl, you ain't getting married till you're 45. And boy, you ain't dating nobody because you can't even do your math homework.
And you're listening to all this, and you want to go to a youth group and you want to play basketball, and you want to come to church, but you also want to go to an AAU tournament. And you want to come tomorrow, but you got soccer practice or some other kind of practice. You're trying to figure it all together. Your mind's here, but your emotions are all in one place. You're trying to figure out whether you want to be a cool teenager or a Christian, some single adult.
You want to get married, you got your whole wedding written out on a cracker barrel napkin, you just don't have a broom. You could just get a groom, you'd have everything set. You got the dresses, you got the bridesmaids, you got the church, you got the cake, you got the colors, you got the minister, you just can't find a man. It's one small loady too. Yeah.
And the pastor says, We haven't revived it. And in two days we got listen, it's over. We got we got listen we got we got to get this thing down by tomorrow night or we're gonna have to wait to the next meeting. Come on. And you try.
What sense does it make to come to this building tonight for me to beat you up? You came. It's amazing how we beat up the people that come and the people that aren't coming, they just just they get off easy. I'm looking at divided people. It's not that they don't want revival, it's just that they can't find themselves.
Listen, you would have your emotions here if you could locate them. You open this book because you're supposed to open this book. You read it all the time, but you finish reading it and you're like, I don't even remember what I read. You fall asleep on verse 13 five times. I will not fall asleep on verse 13.
You wake up again. No, you aren't. Verse 13. You know you're supposed to pray so you get on your knees, but you don't think your prayer got further than the ceiling. And I'm telling you, this is exactly where David was.
He said, My mind is one place, my emotions are another place, my will is one place. And I found myself at this place as we were down in Georgia trying to come back. I just buried my mother-in-law. I had my wife beside me. She was struggling because her mom had just passed away of triple negative breast cancer.
I had my children telling them that their first grandparent had gone on to heaven. And I was trying to pastor. I was trying to leave my wife, lead my family. I was trying to be a son-in-law to my father-in-law. I was trying to be a brother-in-law to my sister-in-law, a husband to my wife, a counselor to my rest of my family members, a pastor to my church.
I was trying to counsel other people that were calling me who knew nothing that was going on. And I found myself with my mind being pulled all over the place. I said, God, how in the world can I be a good Christian, be a good daddy, be a good son, be a good leader, be a good pastor? How can I walk into another church and convince people to read this Bible and live for God if my own heart is all over the place? God, I can't figure it out.
I'm just a man. I want to go to church, but I want all of me to go to church. I want to be home. Want all of me to be home.
Some of you wives talk to your husbands all the time. You're looking at him, he's somewhere else. How do we come in here for two nights? And bring our whole hearts before God who loves us, who sent his only son to die for us. How do we walk into a position of intimacy with a God who put the stars in place and the moon in space and the sun hanging on nothing that it never falls down?
The very God who took from the dust of the ground, formed man, breathed into man's nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living. How do we talk to a God who's all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, immutable, unchangeable? How do we get into sync with a God who wants to do everything, who can do everything, and yet we find ourselves so scattered and divided? The greatest news that anyone can receive is the news of the free gift of salvation found in Jesus Christ. It is our desire for you to know him personally.
Would you take a moment to hear this to-day? Every man is born with a sin nature. Romans 3:23 says, For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. No matter how hard we try, We're not good enough to obtain God's glory. or to get to heaven.
Because of that sin carries the penalty of death. Romans 6.23 says, For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life for the through Jesus Christ our Lord. The wages of our sin, or the payment of our sin, only equals death and separation from God. But it's only through God's gift salvation through Jesus Christ that we can accept Him as our Savior.
Jesus Christ paid for your sin debt. The Bible says in Romans 5:8, But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. All you have to do is receive Christ. by faith as your Saviour. Romans 10.9 says That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Verse 13 continues, For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. It's as simple as admitting that you're a sinner believing that Jesus is the only way. and calling upon his name. Bible says whosoever that's anyone can call upon the name of the Lord to be saved. Have you accepted Christ as your personal Savior?
There is no greater day than today to take care of this. Would you accept Christ as your Saviour? If you have any questions, please give us a call at 336-993-5192 or visit our website at Crowin Baptist Church. Dot com. or visits that person at one of our three service times.
We hope you have a great rest of your day. God bless you. Mm-hmm.
