It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. I hope you've had a tremendous Tuesday.
I'll be hanging out with you for the next four hours. This is when the show gets started every weekday, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. Thank you to our super producer and host Ryan Hickey.
He's in New York City holding it down on the boards. And thank you to you for listening. Everybody on a free Odyssey app tuned in on your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate. You got Sirius XM.
It's 375. You got a smart speaker. Ask the speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. We got a lot to get into as we await more games for March Madness, at least on the men's side. I mean, we got some big games going on down here in Atlanta, Georgia in a couple of days. Notably, Michigan is is coming to town against Auburn. We're going to have a chat with Mr. Michigan himself. All my people up in Michigan know about Terry Mills. The man was Mr. Basketball in Michigan. He won a championship for the Wolverines. He played in the NBA, played for the Pistons. And damn it, now he's a broadcaster for the Wolverines.
We're going to have that chat with Terry Mills next hour. Unfortunately, on the women's side, last night, Juju Watkins tore her ACL for USC. Going to the basket, season over. Mississippi State still takes the L against USC, but people tune in for Juju Watkins. It's a damn shame.
Jimmy Butler, back in Miami, first game versus the Miami Heat since he was traded to the Golden State Warriors, which he won and cried his way out of town. We're getting closer and closer to the North American start of the Major League Baseball season. Can't wait to get into that. We're going to talk some more college hoops. We just have a lot to get into. You want to be a part of the show? Easy. You can do that too. 888-710-4ISN.
That's 888-710-4ISN. I'm on the internet. As wild of a place as it can be, you can find me there. I'm everywhere at JR Sportbrief. It doesn't matter what social media platform you decide to waste your time on.
I am there, including the X or Twitter and Facebook and Instagram, all the wonderful and terrible things. I am at JR Sportbrief. Man, we even got some football we're going to get into. Yesterday evening, Cam Moore decided to have his pro day when we had the start of the show. We have even more news about Cam Moore and what this means for the Tennessee Titans who own the number one overall pick. Then if we take another look, we have a guy who was drafted last year. The man didn't even play. He's still not sure if he's going to be the starter for his team this upcoming season.
That's JJ McCarthy. He had a chat with Kay Adams earlier today. I'll fill you in on that momentarily. Hickey, how are you on this Tuesday? What's today?
March 25th. You doing good? I'm doing good. A little antsy just because, like you just mentioned, we got Sweet 16 on Thursday. We got MLB opening day on Thursday. I am ready to go here to get to the end of the week already.
Oh my goodness. So I'm excited. Excited for what is going to be a fun, exciting week into the weekend. Don't rush us now, Hickey. Don't rush us.
That's true. Can't rush through life. One day at a time. Enjoy it.
Every day is a gift. Yeah, like, I don't know. What's the biggest thing today? Jimmy Butler back in Miami. Is that the biggest sports story today?
Yeah, I think you're probably right about that and the reaction he's going to get, how he plays, Warriors apparently. And this is a shock. You ready for this? You see this report?
They really want to win for Jimmy. Oh my goodness. I bet. Oh my God.
You shocked to hear that? Jimmy Butler. I heard he also doesn't care whether or not he has a, they play a video or not. He's like, if they play a video, I'll watch it. If they don't, eh, whatever.
It's just, I don't know. We'll get into Jimmy Butler. The Miami Heat are expected to start, well, they're not expected. That game is, it's slated to start about an hour and 40 minutes from now. Steph Curry is not playing. He didn't play here in Atlanta on Saturday night. Warriors actually lost to the Hawks, which is crazy, but there was no Steph Curry and Steph Curry won't be in action tonight, which will allow Jimmy Butler to basically take every single shot that he wants against the Miami Heat.
And knowing the Miami Heat fans, are there going to be fans that are even in the building during introductions to see Jimmy Butler's tribute video? I'm venturing. The answer is no. Good for that. We'll get into that. We'll talk about it. We'll see what happens. We'll be live on the air as it takes place.
Anyway, I did mention to you some news that actually occurred earlier today. We got a couple of, a couple of things moving on the quarterback side in the NFL. Obviously Aaron Rodgers still doesn't have a job. Russell Wilson still doesn't have a job. And you could say at this point, unless you're Russell Wilson, it's, it's by choice. Unfortunately for Russell Wilson, he has to follow whatever the hell happens with Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers apparently wanted a job with the Minnesota Vikings.
Minnesota Vikings said, no, thank you for the time being. And so the quarterback at the Vikings did take in the draft last year before Sam Donald took over, took them to the playoffs and got himself paid with the Seattle Seahawks. And JJ McCarthy, the 10th overall selection last year with all the quarterback moving and shaking and Geno moving from Seattle to the Raiders.
And it's just all the movement. JJ McCarthy should have a clear spot to be the starter, right? Daniel Jones decided not to stick around in Minnesota. He looked at Anthony Richardson and says, no thanks. I can take that guy's job.
So I'm just going to get the heck up on out of here. And so JJ McCarthy missed all of last year with a torn meniscus. He had to watch all the success of Sam Donald until the end of the season where things went straight to hell in the handbasket. But JJ McCarthy appears all set. He needed another surgery to reduce inflammation in his knee as he recovered around November, December.
It's now March. He should be good. And throughout this whole process of what happens next with the Minnesota Vikings, you would think that JJ McCarthy would get the go ahead because the only other quarterback on the roster right now is Brett Rippon. And who the hell wants to see him throw?
Probably not even his family. And so JJ McCarthy, as I told you, he was on Kay Adams up in Adams earlier today. And he was asked if he was the guy. He was asked whether or not he was the the starting quarterback. And he said they didn't tell him nothing. When did they tell you or when was that message to you?
They haven't told me. I'm happy they didn't because I try to earn it every single day and I never want that to be given to me. And it's such a privilege and opportunity to give that give me that chance. And I'm just going to make the most of it every single day.
Man, he's going to get that chance and that opportunity sooner than later. I don't care. I don't know who they're bringing in.
I have no idea. What are they going to wait until the summertime to say it's just push, push the button, break the glass in case of an emergency. Let's go ahead and bring in Aaron Rodgers. I don't think that's going to be the case. I think they'll bring in some veteran we're not even thinking about a Joe Flacco off the street. They'll look at JJ McCarthy and say, oh, my God, he's had such an amazing camp. They bring a guy off his couch and an Aaron Rodgers. Well, his best option is just to take the job with the Pittsburgh Steelers and JJ McCarthy, by the way, you might want to earn the job. It's to the Vikings.
It's in their best interest that at some point in time, sooner than later, that they at least hand you over the reins to the job and see what you can do. Are you going to be a turnover machine? Obviously, in the NFL, he has to throw the ball a hell of a hell of a lot more than he did when he was at Michigan winning a national championship. How's he going to do that on the next level? Obviously, Kevin O'Connell feels very comfortable with him to go out there and do so.
They are paying this man 21 million dollars over four years. Last year was a wash to go into year number two or at least conclude year number two and have no idea what JJ McCarthy is going to do is absolute robbery. But JJ McCarthy, he continued on and he said, listen, I got hurt.
I didn't play. But I found the silver lining. Listen, it is the ultimate blessing because, you know, it's just such a time of stillness where you get really get to reflect and introspect and, you know, find a routine, especially early on in this career in this profession. Like it's huge for young guys to find that habitual routine that they can rely on and, you know, stay consistent with. So I would say that was the biggest thing for me. Oh, OK, good for him.
I guess when you're making twenty one twenty one million dollars over four years, you can find this silver lining in anything. I've never broken a bone. Not that I know of. I've never torn a ligament.
Not that I know of. I think if I did, I would. I never broke anything. I think I'm OK. I think my brain. I'm not so sure, but I think I'm OK. Good for him to find the torn meniscus to be a blessing in disguise, to have some stillness.
Not too shabby. So here's a better question. The Minnesota Vikings have already told you that you're not the starting quarterback. Aaron Rodgers is kind of lurking around, I don't know, sitting in the cave, smoking at you know what with the you know who, asking the you know where.
I don't know. But he's not with the Minnesota Vikings. Why didn't they add him? Why didn't they tell him he's going to be the starter? Why didn't they tell him, hey, man, you got pole position?
Why isn't J.J. McCarthy numero uno? Well, are you healthy? This is a question he was asked as well. I would say I'm 100 percent. But, you know, thank you. Cheers to you. 100 percent. But, you know, thank you. Cheers to that.
But, yeah, just staying consistent with the rehab process and not wavering from that and just staying disciplined with all the outside stuff and making sure, you know, I'm not chopping too much wood and doing all that fun stuff. I would say I'm 100 percent. Well, what would they say? What would the Minnesota Vikings say? You don't draft a guy number 10 overall to just stuff him in the closet. He's going to get his chance. He's going to get his opportunity, barring injury, barring an injury setback.
J.J. McCarthy, I'd be surprised if he is not the starter for the Minnesota Vikings. You got to throw this guy out there to the wolves. You got to see what he can do. And, yeah, blessing in disguise. You had a chance and an opportunity to sit in stillness.
But let's think about this. You did have an opportunity to soak it all in, soak in the NFL experience. Yeah, you didn't step out onto the field.
Yeah, you didn't battle. You didn't put on a helmet. You were in the classroom. You were in rehab. You didn't have the full experience. But you learned. You watched. You took it in.
I think that's better than nothing. And so I think he's going to get the chance and an opportunity to go. Who they bring in? I'd be surprised if it's Aaron Rodgers. Why would Minnesota, if they really, really wanted him, why wouldn't they pull the trigger now? And if you're Aaron Rodgers, I don't know, maybe you think you're so damn good at musical chairs that you won't get caught falling on your ass on the ground. Maybe Aaron Rodgers is so full of himself. He's like, yeah, they'll keep a job over for me.
All of them. And NFL doesn't work that way for an arrogant 41 year old quarterback. Is it is it just so easy to walk in in August or July and take his job? Was Aaron Rodgers just going to, I don't know, wear out his welcome with the Steelers? And they say, hey, we'll just bring back Russell Wilson. And what a what a return that would be connected with somebody who didn't even want you as a first choice. It's sad. Good for Russell Wilson.
Got a lot of money, a beautiful wife and beautiful kids. I guess the Steelers not won and maybe the least of his concerns outside of the millions of dollars that he can bring into that beautiful family if he is to return. What a wild world we live in when it comes to the NFL and these QBs. And that's just that's just on the quarterback from last year. What about this year's perspective? Number one overall draft pick. What about Cam Ward?
We talked about it, we joked about it last night, had his pro day. All the all the exaggerations were rolling and flowing. How great he looked.
His arm strength, his athleticism. Picky, I heard he helped an old lady across two streets. Whoa, not just one. Two streets. Wow.
Help her make it across the two streets. That's generational right there. I know, right? What a guy. Nothing bad. I haven't heard a negative word about Cam Ward. Even I want you to listen.
Let's try to find a negative word. This is from CBS Sports HQ. This is NFL draft analyst Ryan Wilson. He said Cam Ward was great, but is there any negativity in here?
Probably not. If there is any doubt about him being the first overall pick before yesterday, it felt like he removed those doubts with the way he it was the near flawless performance. And Haley, in the years last few years, I've been to Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, Will Levis, and then last year, Jane Daniels and Drake May.
This was the best pro day performance I've seen in person, and it might not even be close. Oh, my goodness. We get one of those every single year. Yeah, I got a question when it comes to Cam Ward. Can he black? Can he pick you? I said black flip. I was going to say black. I don't know if he could do a black flip or white flip.
I have no idea. Can he backflip like Anthony Richardson? Have you seen him do that? I have not, which I don't think, you know, if you're a team, you want your franchise quarterback doing backflips anyway.
So can you not come for that? Didn't the Colts select Anthony Richardson because he could do like 80 somersaults? And how's that looking out for him? No gold medal in the Olympics for that.
Right, right. And now no, not many wins. Well, maybe he could be the football version of Simone Biles.
I don't know. I would love that if that somehow led to like, you know, a bunch of Super Bowl wins. But unfortunately, if you have the same skill set of Simone Biles and not the skill set of a quarterback. Hard to win.
Yeah, I think I think Simone Biles would do a better job holding on to the ball too. That's bad. You're right about that. Yeah.
What a sad world. You know it's bad when Daniel Jones is sitting around in this house and he's looking at the teams that are available and he's like, who am I better than? Who do I think I could take?
Who? What God do I think I could take his job? And he's kind of thumbing through everything and he's like, JJ McCarthy, they just drafted him. They're going to give him a chance. Oh, Anthony Richardson, he screwed up enough.
I could outright take his job. I would love to have known how that conversation went for Daniel Jones, who was not wanted by the New York Giants and was thus given the boot and released and went to Minnesota. Cam Ward is certainly looking for a different outcome to be selected number one overall by the Tennessee Titans, who are a complete train wreck. We just talked about the Vikings 14 and three last year and they stunk at the end. Well, Tennessee was the opposite.
They were three and 14. They have a new GM and Mike Borgonzi. And if you're a new GM, you want to make a splash, right?
You want to be known as the guy who found the next guy. I mean, just in the history of the Tennessee Titans, thinking about some of the quarterbacks they've selected. Steve McNair.
Oh yeah. And McNair, God rest his soul. Amazing. Vince Young.
Not as amazing. Jake Locker. Picky, he's retired, right? He gone. He's been gone for a long time. Did he ever really get off the ground? Oh my God.
No, no. I don't know. What is he doing? Is his wife famous or something? I can't keep up. Is she? No idea.
I haven't heard that name in a long time. Well, let's talk about irrelevant. Ooh, damn.
Ouch. This guy's irrelevant. He just went back to, where is he? Isn't he back in Tennessee? Wait, let me Marcus Mariota. Isn't he back in Tennessee?
Marcus Mariota. Isn't he back in Tennessee? No.
Isn't he back with the, I think he just reached out with the commanders. Oh, there you go. Yeah.
I know he went back somewhere where he wasn't good enough to start. Holding Jayden Daniels' bags. Yeah. There you go. That's yeah.
You're right. I don't know where he ended up. I know he went back to some miserable team that he played on, or at least he was miserable for.
Think about this. Marcus Mariota was selected number two overall out of Oregon in 2015. If you're the Tennessee Titans, you have to hope that Cam Ward is closer to Steve McNair than Jake Locker or Marcus Mariota. We heard that the Tennessee Titans took Cam Ward out for dinner. We heard Cam Ward was yelling at the Tennessee Titans brass at his pro day last night about how great he is.
They should pick him. And throughout all of this, Cam Ward, I guess for all of that bravado, on CBS Sports, he was asked if he's nervous about the NFL in this process. But on film it was the same as college. Besides the D line, who's obviously better every team playing gets the highest paid defensive alignment. So, you know, the game could speed up a little bit, but just from a back end standpoint, a lot of guys want to put the safety high 25 yards down the field and leave the middle field wide open. So some teams who did that to us this year, they paid the price. I think some teams in NFL did a lot of too hot stuff like Dallas going a lot of Tampa, a lot of cover too. They leave way too much space on the sideline down the seams. And so I just think, you know, the arm strength and, you know, the confidence that I'm bringing along with the, you know, me getting my receivers better, I just think I'll be able to put the ball where I want.
Okay. Everybody loves his arm strength, right? Let's see what your decision-making looks like. Come on, the perspective number one overall draft pick by the Tennessee Titans. Talking about what he's going to see in the NFL. Man, J.J. McCarthy couldn't even make it through training camp and he got hurt. I'm not saying that that's in the cards for Cam Ward, but listen, man, let's, let's crawl before we walk.
Let's see you get selected number one overall next year before we even answer questions about being nervous NFL quarterback carousel. It continues to roll on. We have a new influx, new additions to the mix next month, the darts of the world, the Sanders of the wards, the world, the wards of the world. We'll see what happens. Good luck to J.J. McCarthy. If they don't let him play this year, then man, what are we waiting on? It's the JR sport brief show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. I told you Jimmy Butler returning to Miami later today.
How about this? The head coach. This is bad. The head coach of Stanford. He got the boot.
Andrew Lutt comes on and tells him goodbye. Did he really want to fire the head coach? We're going to have a chat next hour with Michigan superstar and now broadcaster and Terry Mills.
He's going to join us. We'll talk about Coach Cal. We're going to hear from Puka Nakua, who doesn't want to be an old man playing in the NFL. Speaking of an old man, we heard from Tom Brady. He says, yeah, I got sick of Bill Belichick.
We needed to go our separate ways. I think Belichick improved with the younger lady, if you ask me. And then unfortunately, it was a major injury last night. You want to talk about J.J. McCarthy and his torn meniscus. There is a baller elevating the women's game who tore a major ligament in her knee. Her name is Juju Watkins. We'll talk about that on the other side of the break.
And then there's a Boston Celtic who got hurt as well. We got a lot to get into, a lot to discuss. You want to join 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. You're locked into the JR Sport Brief show on the infinity sports network. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief show here with you on the infinity sports network. 888-710-4ISN.
That's 888-710-4ISN. You know, right before we went to break, we talked about some prospects. This is crazy. In the NFL, and we've never seen them throw a pass. They have yet to throw one pass in the NFL, and they've garnered so much attention today. Cam Ward, who apparently the Tennessee Titans are enamored with. It seems that every day that goes by, they fall more and more in love with Cam Ward. Even so much so that it's been said that if the Titans are to let go of the number one overall pick, that in shout outs to Fat Joe, the price just went up.
And why not? It could be one of two things. They really, really love the guy. They want to keep him, or they're telling people, hey, you got to come up with some more picks.
It could be a whole lot of posturing. We'll find out sooner than later. I think one thing for sure, I think we can all agree with this, that Will Leviss is not the future. He is not the future quarterback for the Tennessee Titans having any type of success at any level. And then we talked about JJ McCarthy, selected number 10 overall last year by the Minnesota Vikings. He's not been assured that he's the starting quarterback.
And I think it is just a matter of him earning it. And more importantly, proving that he's healthy enough to go out there and do so after tearing his meniscus last year. Unfortunately, last night, we know the guys get a lot of attention when it comes to March Madness. The women are balling out as well.
And I would say that there is no bigger name on the women's side right now than Juju Watkins of USC. Last night, USC beat Mississippi State. They didn't just beat him. They beat him up, down, left, right and side to side.
The final score was 96 to 59. But more importantly, people lost their minds when Juju Watkins drove to the basket and then went down to the ground, clutched her knee. And we knew just about that the season was going to be curtains and it was confirmed. Juju Watkins has a torn ACL in her knee. And if you haven't seen her, where the hell have you been? I would say she's probably one of the main reasons to tune in and watch women's college basketball and a similar sense of what we got the past couple of seasons with Kaitlyn Clark. Juju Watkins set a scoring freshman record for last year. This season, she's lighting it up again. It's 25 points, seven rebounds, three and a half assists, 42 percent from the field. OK, can do better.
Thirty two percent from the three point line. But she can go out there and get buckets. She's the biggest star in women's college basketball post Kaitlyn Clark, post Angel Reese. And she's making a lot of money, too.
Seven hundred fifty seven hundred sixty thousand dollars is nothing to shake your head at when you got sponsorship deals, NIL deals with brands like Dove and Taco Bell. Oh, yeah. By the way, Wells Fargo.
Yeah. The banks are throwing her big money. And so not only is this a downer for her, she's going to be out for the next year. This is a downer for USC. She's a big deal. This is a downer for college basketball.
She's one of the main reasons that people tune in and watch USC head coach Lindsey Gottlieb. She says, man, look at that juju go down and it sucks. I mean, I'd be lying if I told you that I wasn't rattled, you know, seeing juju on the floor and crying. I mean, as a human, this is a human game. And so, you know, tried obviously my best to be what I need to be for the team. But, you know, internally, it's a lot. Yeah, well, you'll continue to go out there and put a whooping on Mississippi State 96 to 59.
Ouch. In some of these games, we need a mercy rule. Lindsey Gottlieb continued on. Speaking of the team, she needs to coach the team. What the heck do you tell the team when your best player goes down and you know you won't see her for a year? I just, you know, try to look people in the eye and say we can do this. You know, we've got this. We need everybody, you know, stay focused and locked in on the task at hand.
But, you know, they're competitors and that's what they naturally want to do. Have someone's back, you know. I think they had her back. I think they had each other's back. I think stuck together and had the fan. Like I said, the fans felt really a part of that too. You had to be here to feel it, I think.
I don't know if people saw that through the TV, but it was a palpable thing that I think everyone wanted to step up for one another and I just had to guide them, you know, in that direction. OK, all right. Well, the next direction for USC, the Lady Trojans, they got Kansas State on Saturday in the Sweet 16. They got Kansas State, you know, and I'm not I'm not telling no lie here.
I'm not looking forward to that game. I'm just going to see what's going on. I'll be like, OK, Juju's not here.
I'm going to go ahead and keep it moving. Now, by the way, we're scheduled to chat with Lisa Leslie tomorrow. I'll ask Lisa Leslie about Juju Watkins.
She put out a nice message of wishing her well yesterday. And so I will certainly ask Lisa Leslie, one of the greatest women's basketball players of all time. I'll get Lisa Leslie's opinion.
We'll do that and scheduled to have a chat with Lisa tomorrow. And for Juju, she gets to come back and train because she's not even eligible for the WNBA draft until twenty twenty seven. The WNBA is not like the NBA.
They got rules that will keep you out until you are twenty two years old. Keep in mind, less roster spots in the WNBA, a very competitive space, even with their expansion into cities like Golden State and Toronto. And speaking of the NBA and good luck to Juju in her Juju in her recovery. I just can't wait to see what she does at the next level.
It would have been awesome to see if she would have been able to win a championship this year, but certainly not going to happen. Last night, a Boston Celtic got hurt. Jason Tatum goes down. One of the worst things you typically see in a game going up for a jump shot and a guy defending you decides to jump into you and put his foot down where you're going to land.
DeMontez, a bonus, was charged with a flagrant. But it doesn't change the fact that Jason Tatum was on the floor, on the ground in pain, holding his ankle. He had twenty five points in twenty six minutes. The Celtics keep rolling. I think we can expect them to roll all the way through the regular season for the Boston Celtics.
This entire season is boring as hell. Let's get to the playoffs already. Let's see if the Celtics can go back to back and win a championship.
We know that they're now worth six point one, six point three billion dollars. They're going to bring home some more hardware. They're going to bring in another Larry O'Brien. And of course, we have no idea the status of Jason Tatum's ankle because we have to learn the information from one of the most tight lipped coaches in all of North American sports. His name is Joe Missoula.
A very simple question. This is after the game. Hey, Joe, how's Jason Tatum? Is he going to be good? Is he OK? Since we're doing OK, he's just icing it right now.
I didn't see the play, but they made the right calls of flavor and foul and fortunate that he was able to shoot the free throw and, you know, just taking care of it right now. There's no additional information from last night. And if we were to ask Joe Missoula, he'd say, I don't have any different of that same thing I told you last night. That's what we would hear from Joe Missoula.
There's a whole lot of fast talking and mumbles. You want to talk about Coach Hurley changing up at UConn after winning, becoming an obnoxious jerk. I think Joe Missoula has been the same guy since we were exposed to him when he took over with Imei Udonka. I think even if he wins another champ, Hickey, is he a robot? Is he a person or something? What is he? He's a man who has a process and sticks to that process every damn day, no matter what, no matter who you're talking to, no matter what's going on.
He is not deviating. Yeah, we have no idea. Head coach Joe Missoula, he's just like, I don't know. I don't expect them to miss much time, which isn't saying a whole lot of anything. Hey, first of all, good luck again to Juju Watkins and her recovery, that knee surgery. And then for Tatum, consider it a little bit of a vacation because nobody cares what the Celtics do unless they don't win a championship.
That's it. Wake me up in June when it comes to the Boston Celtics. It's the J.R. Sportbree show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network, 888-710-4ISN.
That's 888-710-4ISN. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, we're going to go back out to the West Coast. We're going to take a look at Andrew Luck. No, he's not playing. He has a new job. He's a GM and he just had to fire his first coach.
I'm going to give you some more details. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbree. It is the J.R. Sportbree show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network, 888-710-4ISN. That's the new number. That's 888-710-4ISN. Shout out to Bella B asking, what's the new number? There you go, Bella B.
It's 888-710-4ISN. What a great chat we've had so far. I guess we've had a great chat. Cam Moore, J.J. McCarthy, unfortunately the injuries to Jason Tatum and Juju Watkins. Good for Jason Tatum. His injury is just a sprained ankle.
Juju Watkins for USC. Man, she tore her ACL. Ain't nothing fun about that and pretty sad when you think about it.
Speaking of sad, nothing worse than getting one of these stories that just pops up on the news. A couple of weeks ago, we learned that there was a full investigation into the head coach, Troy Taylor of Stanford. And there should be an investigation as to why they've been so bad over the past couple of seasons because they've been three and nine each of the past two years. Well, you might recall this. Now we have general managers in college sports and athletics.
We have managers who get NIL deals and then we have GMs who help manage these teams because let's be real, the coach's coach and somebody has to figure out when these guys are getting paid, how much they're getting paid. We heard that from Derek Queen yesterday from Maryland. And so Andrew Luck, the guy who decided to wrap his career up at the age of 29 because, well, he had the partially torn abdomen. He had the lacerated kidney where he was peeing blood. He had the concussion. He had the torn shoulder. Remember that? Hickey, remember the torn shoulder?
How can I forget you? And he also had the calf and the ankle issue. Do you remember that? Oh, I mean, that's the one that the calf especially is one that's burned in my brain. Yeah. The last one. That was, yeah, that was it. It was a rat. Straw that broke the camel's back. And so now you have Anthony Richardson after Jacoby Brissett and Philip Rivers and Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan. And now they're still looking for a QB. And Hickey, who did they just bring in to compete with Anthony Richardson?
That would be one Daniel Jones. Oh, okay. I forgot for a second. Yeah. Hot take. You're ready for this?
Yes. Don't think he'll be the one to finally fix the Colts QB woes. Yeah, I would, I'd agree with you on that one. Well, Andrew Luck has certainly left the Colts with a conundrum. And apparently he's entered into a new conundrum as the general manager. Of Stanford.
Why? Because earlier today he had to, uh, he had to give the coach the boot, but I'm trying to really figure out like a lot of people, did he give him the boot or did the administration give him the boot? I want you to listen to this news story. This is from earlier today. It's not good out in Stanford.
This is from NBC Bay area. Stanford is firing its head football coach of mid allegations. He mistreated female staff members. This comes days after reports cited complaints against him, describing him as hostile and aggressive. More than 20 current and former staffers cooperated with two investigations, which included complaints that Taylor led personal attacks on staff. The second investigation concluded that Taylor retaliated against a compliance staffer who had found seven minor NCAA in front of him. NCAA infractions investigation alleges Taylor sought her removal from her assigned duties.
Taylor was set to enter his third year as Stanford's football coach after back-to-back three to nine seasons. Oh my God. You can't berate people.
You can't threaten people. Hickey, did you see that coach the other day? Uh, he pulled, I don't know. What did she get? A technical foul. He pulled one of the young ladies hairs in a high school game. Did you see that? I did and subsequently got fired immediately. Crazy. He could get a kick in the nuts. Is it too late for that?
No, never too late for that. Yeah, my goodness. Like how, what possesses you?
Like he had, he has issues and problems. I'm like, what possesses you to yank on any student's hair? Unless you're a complete nut. That guy's a nut. Oh man. Man or woman.
Young man or young boy. Yeah. Pulling on somebody's hair. It's pretty ridiculous. And Andrew Luck, this is kind of wild because it was a few weeks ago. He's just like, yeah, yeah, yeah. We know about the investigation and he didn't say anything. He didn't say nothing about firing the guy. He puts out a whole statement today, which basically said, ah, yeah, yeah, I changed my mind. And so this is what we get now.
This is what we get today. And then when he took the job back in November, Andrew Luck said, no, I'm excited to do this because I don't got to throw the football and get hit. I am excited to be back in football. It's, it's the greatest game in our country. I love it.
College football is amazing. Hickey every time when I hear him, I go, he needs to play Abraham Lincoln in like a play. Oh, especially with his neck beer too. He would be pretty good at it.
Right. Doesn't he look pretty good? Doesn't he look like Abraham Lincoln too? Am I missing something?
He does look like he should be like in the 1840s. Oh my goodness. We got breaking news. Speaking of quarterbacks. Oh man, poor Jamis Winston. What a world. What a sad, sad world. Russell Wilson, according to Adam Schefter has agreed to a one year deal with the New York giants. What a world.
Oh man. If I'm Jamis Winston, I'm going, can you cut me today? Like the New York jets have Russell Wilson. They've added Winston, Jamis Winston, and they still have Tommy DeVito, who unfortunately will not have to carry the bags for Russell Wilson.
That's a busy room. You would now think that if you're the New York giants, you ain't drafting no quarterback that's out the window. Russell Wilson is a New York giant and is going to try to revive his career with the giants. He's going to try to go out there and throw the ball to Malik neighbors and hopes that he doesn't throw the ball to anyone else.
And we talked about this just, just at the top of the hour. You think about how the quarterback carousel has gone. The only two QBs that were sitting around were Russell Wilson and Aaron Rogers. And that if Aaron Rogers was just going to take his sweet time, it was going to have an effect on what would take place with Russell Wilson.
Obviously that's not the case. Adam Schefter just reports that Russell Wilson is on his way to the New York giants on a one year deal. I'd hate to break my own news here. This might sound good for the New York giants. It might save the ass or Brian Dabole and Joe Shane.
They may feel that there's a saving their backsides. It is still inevitable that the New York giants crash and burn. It is more likely that things don't work out for the New York giants with Russell Wilson at the helm.
Then they, they work out. And I guess if you are Brian Dabole and Joe Shane, you don't want to put your, your future at the hands of a, of a rookie QB. You don't want to put your future in the hands of Jamis Winston. You take a look at what Russell Wilson did last year. By the way, he was hurt to start the year.
He started off hot and then he fell apart. The New York giants are so desperate. They're looking at Russell Wilson to at least be decent enough to save their jobs.
Good luck with that one. Russell Wilson, not waiting around for Aaron Rogers and his decision. And if you're the Pittsburgh Steelers, you have one more quarterback who just went off the board. Both of your quarterbacks are now in New York. Justin Fields is a member of the New York jets.
Russell Wilson now a member of the New York giants in the Steelers. They better be calling up Aaron Rogers. They better be kissing that guy's backside. They better hope that Minnesota doesn't change their minds come summertime. Otherwise the Pittsburgh Steelers, they're going to be left out in the cold.
Everybody is leaving with a date. Everybody got a date to the prom and the Steelers are looking around and they're going, what the hell do we do? And Cam Hayward, I'm sorry. I guess your, your message to Aaron Rogers last week, it didn't do enough. Aaron Rogers didn't sign with the Steelers. You didn't move him. Mike Tomlin didn't move him. And now there's one less option here for the Steelers is Russell Wilson will not be returning. Russell Wilson is going to the New York giants. I don't know if this is going to work out.
The last veteran who showed up in New York to try to save the day was Aaron Rogers with the jets. How did that go? Uh, not good at all. So the JR sport B show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. We'll get more into this on the other side of the break. Yeah. Breaking news. Adam Schefter says Russell Wilson is now a New York giant. We'll talk about it. Oh yeah. And also Terry Mills is going to join us on the other side. It's the JR sport reshow, the infinity sports network.
