It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody for being locked in all over North America. My people here in Atlanta with me, my people in Georgia, my people hanging out in New York with our super producer and host Ryan Hickey. You could be out west. You could be in the Midwest.
You could be in Canada, wherever you are. Thank you for being here. This is when the show gets started.
6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific every single weekday. And we got a show for you. We got NFL wide receivers that are getting traded like DK Metcalf. We just don't know where he's going.
He wants to be traded. We had another guy. We got dudes getting cut. We got guys getting traded.
And Joe Tooney is moving from protecting Patrick Mahomes on the Chiefs to now protecting Caleb Williams on the Bears. I mean, there's just a lot that's just going on in the past 24 hours since we sat here with you last. So we're going to talk about it all. LeBron James passing the 50,000 point mark last night. Lionel Hollins, former NBA champion, all star coach Lionel Hollins.
He coached LeBron James a couple of years ago as an assistant when the Lakers won that bubble championship. Lionel is going to be here with us to have a chat next hour. In 20 minutes, we're going to have a conversation with Patrick Finley in the span of two days. The Chicago Bears have decided to help fix the offensive line. We'll talk to Patrick about what the Bears are doing to help Caleb Williams. Max Crosby got himself a new deal. The Eagles, they're keeping bond.
Yeah, they gave him a new contract. The Eagles are just handing out all the winners' contracts. Unless your name is Darius Slay and James Bradbury, if you're an old cornerback, they're cutting you.
And of course, it is Wednesday. Today, I'm going to give you a new top six list with DK Metcalf available and all the old wide receivers that I mentioned yesterday. You got the Hopkins of the world, the Amari Coopers of the world. I'm going to give you a top six list of the best wide receivers available here in 2025.
We'll do that two hours from now. It is just unbelievable. I can't remember at any point in an off season where there were so many name brand wide receivers who were just available. I don't know. Maybe it's the money.
I think in a lot of cases, it's the ages of these dudes. And so we'll bring you that top six list in another two hours from now. Thank you for listening on the free Odyssey app. Thank you for listening live on your local infinity sports network affiliate, wherever you live. You can listen in on Sirius XM375.
If you got a smart speaker, ask the speaker to play the infinity sports network. So many wide receivers. DK Metcalf requested a trade today. I guess Jackson Smith and Jigba was taking up all the space and Tyler Lockett got cut before we found out about DK's trade request. If you care about the Jacksonville Jaguars, Christian Kirk got the boot yesterday.
We knew this was coming to Vonsieur Adams got cut. It's just it is a lot of guys, a lot of guys who are free. And it's it's kind of wild right now when you take a look at DK Metcalf. He's a freak, a physical freak. It's hard to even think his dad played on the offensive line, I believe for the Bears about 20 years ago. And his son is six foot four. He's built like a truck. He's playing wide receiver.
I don't know what cornerback wants to tackle this guy. And last year he had a down season, only 992 yards receiving and five touchdowns. He's entering into the final season of a three year contract extension. He signed a couple of years ago.
And he wants to get paid. And I think you you would rightfully assume the Seattle Seahawks don't want to pay him. And so DK Metcalf is likely going to go free. What is he getting traded for?
I don't know. It depends on what the hell the new team is going to give him out as a contract. And so that's where we're going to start off the show. What the hell is next for DK Metcalf? And where did we get all these wide receivers from? Somebody is going to go unsigned. Somebody is going to have to get picked up in training camp.
What a wild world. If you want to be a part of the show, you can. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. You can find me online at JR Sport Brief. Ryan Hickey, how are you, man? You're doing good on this Wednesday. You getting over the hump? I am doing very well as a former high school receiver.
Maybe I should get in the free agent market here and try to get some money. Oh my God. You said middle school or high school? High school. What were your numbers in high school? Probably like 20 catches. I don't know, like 400 yards and two touchdowns. Wait, let's say that again.
It's good enough for a few mill, right? Slow down. Say the numbers again. Well, it was about 20 catches on the season. 20 catches, that's good, right? For 400 yards, 500 yards, somewhere in that range. Well, 400, 500 yards on 20. So you were a distance.
You went down a field and you were yards after the catch, right? A little bit. You know, I can move a little bit. I got open. I got some separation. I'm not fast, but I think I could separate a little bit.
I wasn't running away from anybody, but some decent jukes out there. Got in the end zone twice. So what does that equal? Like 5 mill a year, you think?
10 mill a year? Well, listen, I'm in practice. I'm in practice. 400 yards and two touchdowns in high school? Yeah, yeah. I'm impressed.
Senior year. I got the hand. Let's go. You know how many I had? Zero.
None. I didn't play. I wasn't playing. Too busy busting ass in the basketball court.
No, not in the winter time, man. I'm doing nothing. Not me. What was I kick yet to be out? I don't know. What was I doing? I don't know.
I was probably looking to get into other things besides football. Okay. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. It's too cold. I want to sit outside and watch the team lose.
I don't want that. Was your high school team good? No.
Part of the reason why I played a lot. Okay. Did y'all have like a Thanksgiving game? We did not play that long. No.
We lost our first playoff game like probably early-ish November, second week of November. So we were done well by Thanksgiving. Okay.
No turkey bowl experience for Ryan Hickey. What a shame. Big shame.
Yeah. You can still make it in the NFL. Like you said, you can join the long list of wide receivers that are now available.
They are aplenty. We'll go ahead and give you a top six list of the receivers that are available in a couple of hours. But let's talk about a big one physically who is available.
All 6'4", 235 pounds of DK Metcalf. Ian Rappaport talked about it earlier today on the NFL network and he detailed why he wants to leave. DK Metcalf, as colleague Tom Pelissero and I reported this morning, has requested a trade from Seattle. He had a meeting this morning with Seattle Brass, discussed the trade request.
The team has acknowledged it and essentially said you are allowed to explore it and they will do some exploring as well. It is not a great free agent class at the receiver position. It is not a great receiver class in the draft. Players like DK Metcalf, I would say similar to Deebo Samuel, when they become available and there's just not a lot of other players where teams can improve upon the roster with. These guys become coveted. I expect there to be significant, significant interest in DK Metcalf.
We'll see if Seattle gets enough interest to do a trade. Come on, man. The guy is a freak.
Like, why would there not be interest? I'm not putting him in the same category of, you know, a Victor Wambanyama or LeBron, but he basically is. Hickey, I gotta sneeze. Oh, well, you know, he doesn't have, speaking on LeBron, does not have the diet of LeBron James. That is not candy and coffee all day. That's a whole lot.
Does anybody really believe that, that a guy who looks like that is just, if, well, didn't Chad Ochocinco say he just ate McDonald's every day? Isn't that what he said? That's what he claims. Right.
OK. But there's no supersizing doc like the other guy who did that. The guy who, you're right. He's the guy who ate McDonald's every day, died at what, the age of 50 or something like that? He was a young man. And so I don't know if he, what? So I was trying to think of his name, Morgan something, I think.
Morgan Spurlock. Yes. Good call. Thank you.
That man sacrificed his body for science. OK. I don't know if DK Metcalf is doing the same thing, making $72 million with the Seattle Seahawks. He's looking to make more money now that he wants out.
And let's be, let's really think about this. The reason that he wants out is because they got Jackson Smith and Jigba, who last year had his first Pro Bowl season, 1100 yards receiving, hauled in six touchdowns. Seahawks win 10 and seven, but in their division, yeah, pretty tough to go out there and make the postseason. You can go ahead and thank the Rams for that. Mike McDonald had some success as a first year head coach. And so they ain't going to pay DK.
They're going to stick with Jackson Smith and Jigba. That guy's a beast in his own right. The dude is built like a truck. He may not be as tall as DK Metcalf, but DK is a, he's a freak.
The guy doesn't have an ounce of body fat. If LeBron James was five inches shorter, it's crazy to think about it. DK Metcalf is only six foot four. It's like he towers over everybody that defends him. But if you were to put LeBron James on a basketball court, or excuse me, the football field, LeBron James would be five inches taller than DK.
DK is a bully. Like, I don't know if there's a more physically imposing wide receiver in the game. The only thing is, he wants to get paid.
Where do I think he'll end up? Well, if you're the Seahawks, do you want to trade him to a team in the NFC? Are you just gonna hand him over to the Packers who Josh Jacobs reminded us all, hey, we need a number one wide receiver. Like ouch. Like a big shot to the nuts to all of the guys that they already have on the team. None of y'all are good enough. Do you want to send him to a team like, I don't know, to a team like, I don't know, the Raiders.
That makes sense, right? Raiders got cap space. We don't know what they're going to do at quarterback yet. We do know that they re-signed Max Crosby.
We'll get into that in a little bit. And then we know the Chargers. The Chargers definitely need a wide receiver.
We've discussed this on the show before. He who shall not be named, I'll say his name. Well, no, I'm not going to say his name. That bum from TCU who screws me over in fantasy every single time. I think he's going to have more than three catches.
He does absolutely nothing. He's supposed to be the big wide receiver for the Chargers, but he sucks. So DK Metcalf has some options here and good for the Seattle Seahawks. They got some options in the AFC. If they want to move on from him as well, because DK is going to want to get paid.
Well, that's number one. And then he's going to worry about who the hell the quarterback is second and less important. But, you know, we've heard about players requesting trades and wanting out. And if you're the Cleveland Browns, Miles Garrett told everybody Super Bowl week is like, I don't want to be here. Like nobody wants to watch the Browns. Deshaun only came here because you idiots pay the money. Like I want to leave.
The Browns told Miles Garrett, we're not letting you leave. Is that going to be the same case here in Seattle? I doubt it. I think they'll let them go for the right price.
Ian Rappaport, he was asked whether or not they could kiss and make up. Listen to this. Yeah. I mean, it's always possible. And if Seattle doesn't get what they want, you know, certainly could return. But if he's going to return, I would expect it to be with a new contract going into the final year of his deal, wants a new deal. Generally, just speaking generally and historically, when a team and a player say, you know what, you can seek a trade. Usually that means a player is getting traded. So we'll see what happens with DK Metcalf. But certainly that is a at least strong possibility.
Oh, of course it's a strong possibility. I'm not Ian Rappaport. I'm not sitting around spreading information that executives tell me all day. Not my lot in life. I would not be interested in that.
Not by any long shot. Go ask Walsh. I said, I'm not doing this anymore.
I want to put my damn phone down. But having said that, there's no reason for DK to return. There's no reason to want him back. Look, he's not Miles Garrett. He ain't no surefire first ballot Hall of Famer. You know, if you're the Browns, you lose him, you lose a lot. Now, I don't think it makes sense to keep him if he wants to go.
But DK Metcalf is a little easier to let go. It's like your first car. Maybe you keep it. Maybe you give it away. Maybe you pass it on down to your kid. But if you have some real sentimental value, if it really has value, if you want to keep it in a family, you hold on to it. DK Metcalf is a, he's a sports car.
You ride it, you go fast, you get a couple of tickets, and then you say, man, this might be too much trouble. They do not need to pay him. They can go ahead and get a replacement. They already have a beast in Jackson, Smith and Jenga. They'll be perfectly fine.
Unfortunately, what they need to worry about is something that's going to take some time. Whoever the hell is going to replace Geno Smith, because Geno Smith is not winning the Seahawks a championship ever. I bet everything that I have on that one, that's tough to say.
I feel bad, but it's true. It's the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. We're just getting warmed up. I've got a top six list in two hours. We'll talk about some of the best wide receivers available in the NFL. We got Lionel Hollins, a former NBA champion, former NBA coach, former assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers. He's going to join us to talk some hoops in the Lakers and LeBron. We'll do that next hour. Get his thoughts on this combo of Luca and LeBron and LeBron's greatness.
And how about this? We got more to get into with the Chiefs and what they've done getting rid of Joe Tooney, but we're going to take a break. And when we come back on the other side, let's just right out of the gate, have a chat in a few minutes with Patrick Finley, who covers all things Chicago Bears. Let's just say the Bears have been busy and the start of the official free agency isn't even underway. I'll tell you what went down and we'll have that conversation with Patrick Finley on the other side.
Oh, it feels so good to be here getting over the hump. It's the JR sport re-show on the infinity sports network. You're listening to the JR sport brief.
It is the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. We haven't even reached the official start of the NFL's new league year. That's March 12th. But we have signings that are taking place. We got trades that are being agreed to. We have the Chicago Bears who are trying to protect Caleb Williams, moving into year number two. What else are the Bears going to do? They have plenty of cap space. What can we look forward to?
How can they continue to adjust? I mean, they have a brand new head coach chatting about these bears. Joining us right now is someone who covers them for the Chicago Sun-Times. It's Patrick Finley. Patrick, how are you, man? Not too bad. How about you?
I'm a little busier than I thought I might be this week. Well, listen, the Chicago Bears with a little bit of a surprise. Did you expect them to move this fast and adding Tooney and then Jonah Jackson from the Rams?
I didn't expect them to be this aggressive on the trade market. I figured that they'd throw a lot of money at offensive line when free agency started next week. You knew that they had their eye on Trey Smith, the Chiefs guard. But when the Chiefs decided last week to give him the franchise tag, I think the Bears went to look at Plan B and Plan B turned out to be taking some money off the Chiefs' hands in part so the Chiefs can then give Trey Smith probably a really long contract extension. Well, when you take a look at the Chicago Bears, it's a no brainer to go ahead and try to get some help for Caleb Williams.
He was sacked almost 70 times last year leading the NFL. We know they still have to fill out the tackle spot. Do you assume that the Bears will get him some more protection in free agency? Are we looking at the draft, the combination?
Yeah, probably a combination. More than tackle, I would probably look at center. It's the way the Bears start free agency.
Drew Dalman is widely considered to be the best one out there. He's coming from the Falcons. We'll see whether his market gets too rich for the Bears' blood after what they've spent in the last two days. But with Caleb Williams, there's nothing more important than his comfort and that starts with being able to protect for him. Two quarterbacks in the history of the NFL have been sacked more in one year than Caleb Williams was last season.
That is just unacceptable. Ben Johnson, the Bears new head coach, is coming from a team that was built around a great offensive line. So those two factors have really pushed the Bears in the direction of trying to revamp their line and that's going to be maybe four out of the five guys. Right now Darnell Wright at right tackle might be the only one who comes back in the same spot. Their two guards in one center are all free agents and then you've got Braxton Jones who's been okay in his Bears tenure but he's recovering from ankle surgery and you just kind of don't know what you're going to get there. And Patrick Finley is joining us, covers the Chicago Bears for the Sun-Times.
When you talk about Caleb Williams, we saw what Jaden Daniels did. This man was one step away from the Super Bowl. We saw, unfortunately, the Bears went 5 and 12. There were some hopes that they would, I don't know, maybe sit in that eight or nine win range and compete for a playoff spot. That didn't happen with only five victories.
What's the expectation? It's early but are fans looking for a big jump given what they've seen between the Strouds and the McDaniels over the past couple of years? Yeah, I mean fans were looking for that jump last year and you said it, you know, and the combination of the drafting of Caleb Williams first overall and then, you know, the Bears appear on hard knocks, you know, which, you know, every scene there was approved by the team so it was a pretty good five-week commercial for the future of the Bears. And, you know, through the first six weeks of the season they were a pretty good football team.
They were 4 and 2 and then things just went downhill so quickly. I think Bears fans here have been burned before and not just last season so they might know, they might be too smart to expect absolute greatness this season but they're expecting a winning record at least. And I think if you told them a winning record and Caleb Williams makes the jump to, you know, a top 12, top 15 quarterback, I think Bears fans would be pretty thrilled with that. As it is that, you know, their roster is built to win now. I mean, you look at, you know, DJ Moore and Roma Dunsay at receiver, you look at Cole Kemet at tight end, you know, DeAndre Swift at running back and then, you know, the defensive backfield is one of the best defensive backfields in football. Like, this isn't a team, you know, trying to build slowly with young guys.
This is a team equipped to win now. You know, the question is whether they can actually do it. Before they added Tooney and also Jonah Jackson, they were heading into free agency with the fifth largest amount of salary cap space. So, outside of potentially getting a sensor, where else do you see them allocating that money? Of course, they got to wait on the draft. I know they select a 10th.
What do you see them doing with that cash? They got to find a way to get to the passer somehow. And whether that's a defensive end or defensive tackle, something has got to change. You know, they gave Montez Sweat a ton of money a year and a half ago to be who they hoped would be a game-changing defensive end.
And he's been up and down. Last season, he didn't have the impact that many people thought he would and that he thought he would. So, they need to put somebody opposite him who is a threat to get to the quarterback. One of the more intriguing names floating around there is Khalil Mack. And if you remember, when Ryan Polis, the Bears' current GM, got here, maybe the first big move he made was to trade Khalil Mack to the Chargers to start the Bears' complete tear down. He's available in free agency, and he might provide the kind of pass rush punch that the Bears so desperately need.
If they don't go with him, maybe it's something a little less flashy. But even if they went and got a defensive tackle or defensive end in free agency, I wouldn't rule out them looking at one, either with that 10th pick or with their two second round picks. Remember, they not only have their own draft pick, but they have the Panthers' second round pick from the Caleb Williams trade, which is the gift that keeps on giving.
So, with those three spots, I expect the Bears to target the line even if, in free agency, they do a pretty good job of smoothing that out. Well, Patrick, you had mentioned first year head coach Ben Johnson kind of leading the way here with Caleb Williams. People look at him as a miracle worker for everything that took place up in Detroit.
What do you expect over this next year? How has he been received so far? I see people in Detroit, some of them, I guess five people online angry. You know, he's a turncoat. Oh, he left. People in Detroit are loving him and waiting for him, right?
I mean, what are you supposed to do? I mean, he was the best offensive coordinator in the NFL last season. The year before, if he wasn't number one, he was certainly on the podium somewhere. And you become a good offensive coordinator, so one day you can become a head coach. And he was really attracted to the Bears for a lot of reasons.
Number one is Caleb Williams. And I think most coaches in the NFL would like a chance to build from the bottom up with Caleb, who, despite his struggles last year, is still really, really talented. Number two is that Ben Johnson, for the last decade, had been coming to Chicago in the summer to go catch a Cubs game and hang out. And he and his wife would sit there and talk about how cool it would be if you were ever a big deal as a head coach in the city of Chicago. So, you know, he's had this job circled for a while now and with good reason.
Now, what do I expect from him? I expect him to make Caleb Williams almost unrecognizable from last year. You know, the Bears had three different offensive coordinators and two different play callers last season. That's not the situation you want to put a rookie quarterback in. You certainly can't expect him to rise above that noise, especially in the year where the Bears fired their head coach for the first time in the 125-year history of the franchise during the season. So, you know, those were all strikes against the franchise last year. I expect Ben Johnson to not only bring stability, but to bring some expertise.
And I think by the end of this season, we're going to notice what a giant difference that that's made. I like it. I mean, the more beef and juice we could have between the Bears and the Lions, I mean, go ahead, please. Sign me up for it. I'm here for all of it. The NFC North, everybody hates everybody as much as the Bears and Packers like to talk about it being the best rivalry in football.
And I do think it is that. Boy, you know, the Vikings and Packers don't get along. The Bears and Lions don't get along. There's no love lost between any of those four teams. Hey, well, that's a good thing. More competition, the better. Now, we did learn, unfortunately, a little more than a month ago, the team lost its owner.
I get it. She was 100 years old, 100 plus years old, Virginia Hallis McCaskey. She wasn't just, you know, running a team on a day to day basis. What does this mean for the franchise, if anything, moving forward? And then separately, of course, I want to get an update on what the hell is going on with that stadium. Well, all I can do is quote George McCaskey, who asked, you know, who's been asked over the years whether his family would ever sell the team and give up control of the team.
And he said that that's going to happen when Jesus returns to Earth. So unless you see a big fireball coming down in the sky, I think we can presume that the McCaskys are going to keep the team. Now, you know, the NFL has rules now where you can sell 10 percent of the team to private equity. And that's a good way to get some cash.
It's a good way to get some cash to give to the family members on your board. It might be a good way to get some cash to build a stadium. So we know that the Bears have said for the last year that they're kind of keeping an eye on that.
And I'll be curious to see what happens with that. As far as the stadium, it seems to be a stalemate downtown again. And, you know, they're really running out of time to get a deal that anybody in the state or the city of Chicago would really be willing to go to bat for. I wouldn't be surprised if they turned back toward Arlington Heights.
Remember, they have 326 acres of land there and they have some property tax certainty now that they cut a deal with that suburban village. So, you know, maybe sometime after the draft and before summer break, something like that, maybe we'll see some movement. But the momentum seems to be swinging back toward Arlington Heights. A little bit. So it's weighted more towards the Bears going out into the burbs and leaving the waterfront, the lakefront?
Yeah. I mean, they haven't been able to get a deal done yet. And, you know, and the municipalities, I mean, it's going to be hard to get money out of the state kind of either way. But, you know, the municipalities they're dealing with, you know, I think Arlington Heights has given itself a chance to go wrestle that back from the team. And again, you know, they own the land. You know, the Bears aren't a construction company. I don't know what their level of interest is in building hotels and restaurants and bars and stores and everything else that goes with that. But, you know, they certainly have the land to do it if they want to, or they can parcel it out a little bit.
And maybe that's a good way to split the baby. Hey, they can do their own Wrigleyville up in the burbs. I can tell you this, Ms. Patrick, if they are not downtown, I ain't going, OK?
Just FYI. I'll tell you that it's the best location. I mean, I've been to every NFL stadium going.
It's the best location in the NFL by double. And I mean, it's fantastic. But just the building itself is old and not up to standard. And you know what?
That's what happens. The Bears have still not been their own, you know, landowner. They've rented from the city of Chicago.
And, you know, when you do that, things can get in the state of disrepair and there's nothing really you can do about it. So that's a big part of the impetus there. My big question is, you know, how you're going to run public transportation to Arlington Heights. You know, there's some suburban trains that go there. But boy, if you want a fan base from the south side of Chicago, fan base from Indiana, fan base from the city, be able to get to that suburb. You got it.
You got to help them somehow. Yeah, no thanks. Not me. I'll stay downtown, but I ain't going out there, OK? It's enough I got to get from the airport.
So you can throw that out the window. I'm being honest, Patrick. Next time I'm in Chicago, I'll meet you downtown. It won't be at the football stadium if they move it. If the basketball team or the hockey team could get better, we could go there. Well, I'm with that. Hey, Patrick, thank you so much for the time and the insight. It looks like I mean, the Bears can't they can't win five games again unless people are getting hurt.
So this is some positivity here, all this work that they're doing with the offensive line. Where can people follow you and all your work with the Sun Toms, man? You can check me out on social media at Patrick Finley on the big bad social media company there. You can go to suntimes.com. And also we've got a podcast called Hallis Intrigue, spelled just like the family's last name. You can look that up anywhere you get your podcast.
I like that the big the big bad what social media who what the big bad social media company that used to be called Twitter. You can find me at Patrick Finley there. The less said about the rest of that, the better. I know. I know. Hey, Patrick, thank you.
We'll catch you on down the line. OK, that's good. No doubt about it.
That Patrick Finley covers all things Chicago Bears for the Chicago Sun Toms. Yeah. Well, X is not an is. Is there anything picky? Is anything positive on X? Is there anything positive there? Anything?
Unless your sports team wins and a lot of people are tweeting about that. I don't think so. That place is rough. Damn, man. I log on and I go, what is it?
I don't even follow this person. What is this? A very different place. Hey, Dexter, Henry, is there anything is anything positive on X? Nothing, right?
When I see your content is positive, I'll say that. Oh, thanks. So what is so what does that mean? Ninety ninety ninety ten ratio? Yeah, I know that. Yeah. Ninety ten ratio for negativity. That sounds about right.
I'm going to I'm going to start on I'm going to start a social media platform. That's all positivity. Does that exist at all anywhere? Even if it starts out as that, like blue sky. Right. Eventually, it's going to turn bad like this. All this stuff turns bad. You know, you know, you know, I've answered my question.
They are they are social media places that are I guess they're positive, but I can't mention in those places on the air. So understood. There we understood. There we go.
Understood. On that note, it is the JR Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much to Patrick Finley for joining us to talk all things Chicago Bears. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we're going to talk about the team that has lost part of its offensive line. It's the team that was just in the Super Bowl and they lost because of the offensive line. Partially, it's the Kansas City Chiefs. Where the hell do they go next with Tuni gone?
And we know they tagged Smith, but they got some work to do. Give you an update on the Chiefs on the other side. You are listening to the JR Sport Brief.
It is the JR Sport Reshow on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much to Patrick Finley from the Chicago Sun Toms for joining us to talk about the Bears. Yeah, the Chicago Bears. They're doing their best to get Caleb Williams some help. And it's not even the official start of the league year.
We got to wait until March 12th, which is exactly a week from today. The Chicago Bears already adding Joe Tuni from the Kansas City Chiefs. They make that trade. They already added Jonah Jackson, trading him over, bringing him over from the Los Angeles Rams. Jonah Jackson, he was hurt last year. Only played four games with a shoulder issue. A couple of seasons ago, this man was a Pro Bowler. And you might probably know a little bit more about Joe Tuni playing for the New England Patriots. Kansas City brought him on after they lost that last Super Bowl to the Buccaneers. And Joe Tuni, unfortunately, he had to play left tackle.
He's a guard naturally, one of the best guards in the league. But he had to play left tackle last year for the Kansas City Chiefs because they sucked. And so they had to go ahead and move him to the outside. And so this man will stop anybody at getting to Patrick Mahomes, but he can't do so when he's out of position. And so why the hell would the Kansas City Chiefs decide to move on from him? We do know that they decided to go ahead and give the franchise tag to Trey Smith. He's one of the only two guys in the NFL that got franchise tagged or will get franchise tagged. It's between him and T Higgins.
And so when you think about Patrick Mahomes getting sacked six times, six times, he was sacked three times in that last Super Bowl loss against the Buccaneers against the Eagles, which is crazy to think about a month ago. Why are they getting ready? The offensive line?
Why are they downgrading on the line if that's where they need the help? I'm going to trust the Kansas City Chiefs because they have to pay Trey Smith. Let's see if they come to terms on a long term deal. Let's see what they do in free agency.
Let's see who they groom to go ahead and take these spots. I mean, they were very aggressive in bringing in Orlando Brown and bringing in Tooney. The last time Patrick Mahomes got beat to shreds. And so I'm not going to jump on a bandwagon of the Kansas City Chiefs are about to suck. The Kansas City Chiefs just lost in the Super Bowl because the line stuck. Maybe Travis Kelce was hanging out with his girlfriend too much.
But why you would take away from the line instead of adding to it? I'm not all that concerned. Let's get through a few weeks. Let's get through a few months before we just go, Oh my God, Patrick Mahomes is about to run for his life again.
Anyway, there's a couple of people who don't agree with me. Former NFL offensive lineman A.Q. Shipley. He was having to chat with Pat McAfee and he said, I don't like what the Chiefs are doing at the offensive line.
Kansas City Chiefs over the last couple years as they have not been able to solve their offensive line. So now they're going with inexperience or I've been reading a lot on the Internet that they're going to move Kingsley, the left tackle who got benched early in the season. They're going to try him in at left guard. So now you take a guy who's never played guard and you're going to move him into left guard, which is probably one of the most important positions on the offensive line. So you take 10 years of experience, 10,000 career snaps, multiple Super Bowls, all pro status, and you're going to replace him with a guy who's never played there before. I think it's an interesting move.
It's March 5th. It's not like they signed me a hickey to go play on the offensive line. It's not like they got Dexter Henry to go play on the offensive line. It's like they got Marco Belletti to play on the line.
Like it's March 5th. I think they know that the key to the team is to keep Patrick Mahomes upright. And so that's from an offensive lineman's perspective. Understood. This man has moved more people out of the way in his life than I ever have ever period in a day. He's done it. Okay.
No disputing that. You know, let let's hear from a quarterback. Let's get a quarterback's perspective on this. How about a backup quarterback who at one point in time played for the Kansas City Chiefs, but then also played for the Chicago Bears who now they got Caleb Williams and they got him some protection. Chase Daniel. Yeah, you remember him.
He put in his two cents on Scoop City and this is what he said. You drafted Kingsley Sumatilla, Sumatilla and the second round didn't work out. And you promised, okay, you did this after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Veach. You went out and you solidified that offensive line even more. Get your guy and move him to the left tackle.
Get him to left tackle. Make sure you protect the franchise and that franchise is Patrick Mahomes. Yeah, look, we've heard some negative things about the Kansas City Chiefs, right? They need to do a better job updating the locker room. They were promised a better locker room. We heard all of that stuff.
All right. But when it comes to the actual team, yeah, the offense is taking a hit and they need to replace some weapons. And, you know, Xavier Worthy, I can imagine, you know, moving into year two, he'll be awesome. Travis Kelce is going to get into shape. I'm not concerned. Not. It's not the Cincinnati Bengals. I don't think the Kansas City Chiefs are going to go out. We didn't get the three peats, so let's just kind of kind of coast and hope that Patrick Mahomes takes us the rest of the way for the next, I don't know, five, six, seven years.
Oh, come on. They're going for it. Kansas City Chiefs want to go back to the Super Bowl and there's no damn guarantee that they will. Buffalo Bills aren't going anywhere. The Ravens aren't going anywhere. None of these teams are going anywhere. But I'm not going to run around and and be concerned on March 5th. You haven't even gotten to the start of free agency yet. At least they're getting rid of somebody like Joe Tooney, who's in his early thirties. Do you want to sign him to a long term deal or do you want to get a pick for him and then try to develop somebody and get a pick?
I think that might be the more prudent option. Let's see what else they do in free agency before we just talk about how bad the offensive line is. The Kansas City Chiefs don't have to play. Hickey, what Super Bowl are we coming up on? 60? Is that what we're doing now? Or do we just have 60?
What the hell is this? No. Yeah. Last year's 59.
60 is next season. It's in. Where the hell is it going to be? San Francisco? Oh, yes.
You're right. Yes. Santa Clara. Yep.
Santa Clara. Right. Yeah. We're not there yet. It's not Super Bowl 60. It's not February.
We're not in Northern California. It is March 5th, 2025. The Eagles just won the Super Bowl. They're giving out all these contracts to Zach Bond and Saquon Barkley.
They're saying thank you. And the Chiefs are trying to retool for next year. They got time to do so. So everybody just pumped the brakes just a little bit.
Hickey, what are your thoughts? Are you up in arms about what they've done so far? I'm not calling them dead. I'm not saying that they're no longer the team to beat.
They still have my respect. What I will say is I think going into 2025 or at least going to free agency before we see what they do first. This does feel like right now with where they are, they're the most vulnerable they've been under Patrick Holmes. Again, like you said, we have still long want to go in the draft and free agency where they can make some moves to address, especially the offensive line.
But they do have some question marks. Again, receiver I don't think is very deep. And so depending on how they attack it, they could shore it up. But I mean, this team has felt like invincible for a while. Now it does feel like, okay, there's maybe a little bit of a crack here where teams, bills, Bengals, Ravens, you name it, can finally maybe squeak their way and take advantage.
Yeah, that's well, that's been the case, it feels like for the past couple of years. You know, I was worried as hell when they got rid of Tyreek Hill or let him walk or got him out the door, sent to Miami and you got his contract and what happened? They ended up winning and winning some more and almost winning again last year. So we'll see what happens with Rashee Rice when he returns, if he doesn't get locked up. And we'll see what else they add in free agency. I believe in Patrick Mahomes. I believe in their GM, Brett Veitch. I don't believe the Kansas City Chiefs will ever get a nicer locker room.
Sorry. The owner built himself a mansion up in a suite. I'm not not joking. It's a mansion upstairs in the suite. Chiefs want a better locker room now.
It's the JR Sport Beach Show on the Infinity Sports Network. We'll talk about Arrival. How about this? The Raiders are doing things. Don't move.
