Thank you to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. You made it. It's Friday. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, whatever you might be up to, I hope you're safe, I hope you are well, I hope you're amazing. I'm going to be hanging out for the next four hours.
This is when the show gets started every weekday at 6pm Eastern, 3 Pacific. Not only did you make it to the end of the week, you made it to the weekend. You almost made it to the Super Bowl.
Man, we got two more days and it's been a long two weeks. Of course, we're going to talk about it all. I'm going to give you my Super Bowl prediction. We're going to be joined by some guests. How about this, in about 20 minutes, Martin Frank is going to join us.
Covers the Eagles for the Delaware News Journal. Next hour, we're going to have a chat with a familiar voice here on the Infinity Sports Network, also in Kansas City over the airwaves. Carrington Harrison is going to come through and join us to talk about the Chiefs. I told you we're going to give our predictions last night.
Nothing to predict. We know who's going into the Hall of Fame. Damn it, we know who the NFL MVP is. His name is Josh Allen. A lot of people are upset. A lot of people are surprised with what took place.
I'm not. I would have given it to Lamar. I expected Josh Allen to win it. We'll talk about that in a second. Man, Jimmy Butler said he can't wait to win championships. I don't know how that's going to happen in Golden State. It is Friday.
We'll do the Friday Funny later on in the show. We got Tyreek Hill saying, I don't want to leave. I was just angry. I don't I don't want to leave. I don't want to go anywhere. We'll show some love to Hubie Brown.
NBA coaching legend, basketball legend is going to be calling his final game on Super Bowl Sunday. So instead of watching 20 hours of pregame, make sure you listen to Hubie Brown. We'll give you some more details later on in the show.
There's a lot to get into. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to our super producer and host, Ryan Hickey.
He is in New York City. You can always listen to the show on the free Odyssey app. Your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate is Sirius XM 375. And if you got a smart speaker, go ahead and ask that speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. If you want to be a part of the show, you can do that as well.
Real simple, real easy. You can call up. It's 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227.
You can find me online at JR Sport Brief, except don't do that if you are driving. Don't don't do that. That's kind of dangerous. Hickey, we've made it to two days out from the Super Bowl. How are you? We have made it. I'm very excited.
I'm doing well. Excited. Like I said, 48 hours away. Let's go. Let's go get us there.
You can't get here soon enough. And this has been a it's been a quiet Super Bowl week. I don't think we've gotten a lot of news. What's the biggest news?
You'd say Miles Garrett on Monday saying that he wants out of Cleveland. Would that be the biggest story in terms of like just NFL news? Right. Yes.
I would just just flat period. We haven't got a bit or an ounce of news outside of, I don't know, the Eagles and the Chiefs. Obviously, we're going to talk about Josh Allen and Lamar in a second. But there was nothing, nothing out of the Eagles, nothing out of the Chiefs. This is just business as usual. We've been here. We've done that.
Let's just go and get to business. And we have to wait for that on Sunday in New Orleans. But before we get to that game, let's put a bow on what took place last night. Hickey, I think we pretty much almost nailed all of the awards that were handed out, including the MVP, which they handed out after we had gotten off air.
You you believe that. Well, you said Josh Allen should be MVP. I said I would take Lamar Jackson to be MVP, but I thought that Josh Allen would win it. And it's ultimately because voter fatigue.
And in a few minutes, in a few seconds, I'm going to explain to you. I'm going to give an example as to why, you know, Lamar Jackson, I believe that ultimately he would get the short end of the stick. So congratulations on Josh Allen for winning his first NFL MVP. He had twenty seven first place votes. Lamar Jackson had twenty three first place votes. Josh Allen finishing up the season, the regular season. This is not a postseason award. What he did in any round of the playoffs before elimination against the Chiefs does not matter.
The Bills finished 13 and four in the regular season. Josh Allen, three thousand seven hundred and thirty one yards passing, twenty eight touchdowns, six interceptions, six hundred and thirty one yards on the ground to go along with eight touchdowns. Josh Allen for several years now was an MVP favorite. Well, now he's an NFL MVP.
Listen to his acceptance speech last night, courtesy of the NFL Network. I'd like to thank God, first and foremost, for allowing me to be here today. I'd like to acknowledge the other nominees.
Jared, Joe, Saquon, Lamar all had great seasons and all could be standing here today. And you guys would be deserving of it. So you guys are true stewards of the game. I look up to you guys. I admire you guys. I just look forward to sharing the gridiron in the future with you guys, too. I'd like to thank the Bills organization, Terry and Kim Pagula, Brandon Bean, Sean McDermott. Thank you guys for drafting me seven and a half years ago. Feels just like yesterday.
It really does. And I know this is an individual award and it says most valuable player on it. But I think it's derived from team success. And I love my team. Thank you for presenting.
I really appreciate it. We've got such a great locker room in Buffalo. Good idea by Josh Allen to somewhere in there. I think the people who pay him because ultimately, sooner than later, he is currently signed through 2028. He's underpaid. When you look at the quarterback market right now, he's making forty three million dollars a year. He's the league MVP, now the reigning league MVP. And we got a guy like Dak Prescott, who has a three and five playoff record. Dak is making 60 million a year. So you can expect Josh Allen, at least his agent, to knock on the Buffalo Bills door and say, hey, man, you got to ante up and give me some more bread.
It's time for me to get some more money, especially with that fancy new stadium they're building across the street. And so why is this controversial? Let me let me be clear here. You can't lose what either guy.
That's the reality. I'm really trying to understand and listening and reading and just popping in and reading and gathering people's opinions, whether it be on television or radio. People are making it seem like I'm walking into a club and making you choose between a one and a 10.
These are two tens. There's no losing here. This is like going to the wedding. The nice one.
You don't got to pay for nothing. This is like going to the wedding and trying to think about what what entree you want. You know, if you're like me, like if it's dead and it tastes good, I will eat it. OK, is it salmon? Is it good? I'm going to eat it. Is it steak?
Is it good? I will eat it. Asking me to choose between salmon and steak is just a matter of, you know, diet and what I ate today. That's it. Nothing else.
Both are amazing options. You're not asking me whether or not I want to get shot or stabbed. And so I wish people would just relax.
And, you know, maybe they'll debate this for the next, what, three months, two months. I don't know. But this is not a matter of is you ugly? Is you pretty?
It's not that. These are two amazing quarterbacks. If you're asking me, these are two out of the best three quarterbacks in the entire NFL. And we know who numero uno is. It's Patrick Mahomes.
Now, having said that. It's easy to look at all the stats and look at the numbers. Lamar Jackson generated more touchdowns. Lamar Jackson had a higher passing percentage. We can look at the yards. He passed for more yards.
He had one less loss. Like we are really, really nitpicking. If you want to choose one or the other. I really and I understand. You look at Lamar Jackson's weapons. Yeah, he got that big truck next to him now and Derrick Henry.
That's nice. I can handle ball off to him and have a successful last season, I think. Zay Flowers is continuing to emerge. Bateman was nice. He was healthy. Mark Andrews was good until the postseason. We know he dropped that ball. Maybe Ravens would be in that spot instead of the Buffalo Bills. And Josh Allen over the past several years has become a little less of a risk taker.
Good. I'm happy for his best weapon. I would say is James Cook. Khalil Shakir has emerged. He has to spread the ball out. He doesn't have a digs. Keon Coleman had an OK rookie season. Kincaid had his own problems against the Chiefs. Amari Cooper, they traded for him.
I don't think that worked out. Josh Allen worked with less talent around him. Correct.
I would agree with that. But when I look at Lamar Jackson, I look at a guy who is basically the entire engine for the team. It sounds crazy to say, but Derrick Henry is a supplement. Derrick Henry went there because of him.
They built the whole team around him. His coach, Coach Harbaugh, said, hey, look at Lamar Jackson. This man could walk away and be the best quarterback that we've seen and everybody kind of rolled their eyes. I rolled my eyes, but I'm still like, look at the season he just had. And this is the other element of it.
Maybe what was surprising to some. Lamar Jackson was voted first team or pro. Typically, the guy on the first team. Ends up winning MVP. Why? Because the same people who vote for that or pro are the same damn people voting for MVP. And so how could the numbers now all of a sudden shift?
Well, here's an example. Dan Orlovsky from ESPN, he was on get up and he explained he tried to explain why in the hell he would say Lamar was the best quarterback. So he's all pro first team. But then Josh Allen is the MVP, huh? The value that the player brought to their football team. The Bills were the number two seed. Josh had a 40 touchdown, eight turnover, 14 sacks season. The Bills didn't have an elite defense. The Bills had a very good run game, not a great run game.
They didn't have elite perimeter players in any regard. The way that Josh played this season and the different style that he played brought tremendous value to their football team. Lamar's season was absolutely sensational. He was probably the best player in football this year or Jamar Chase or Saquon Barkley.
But value and how much you impact your team, who you do it with and who you do it against. That's where I thought Josh had the upper hand. Look, Dan Orlovsky is just saying stuff.
He's just saying things he don't know because I told you this. This is a tight race. Ain't no easy call here. You could flip a coin and one of these guys could be MVP. I'm not mad at the fact that Josh Allen won. I would have given it to Lamar because he is the whole team.
I would have taken the first part of what Dan Orlovsky said and not the latter. There's a Baltimore Raven in the Hall of Fame used to stand on that offensive line and move people around. His name is Jonathan Ogden. He was walking the streets of New Orleans. Well, a lot of people are walking the streets in New Orleans, but he was walking in TMZ.
What else they do? Just put a camera in his face. And they asked him whether or not Lamar Jackson was robbed of the MVP. And this is what Ogden had to say. Josh Allen had an excellent year, but it wasn't even close to the statistical numbers of Lamar. Right.
I get it. Why do you think they gave it to him? Because he's a great quarterback. He hadn't won one.
Lamar had two and they're like, let's just give him one. But that's the wrong reason. Yes. It's all good.
I mean, what are you going to do? Yeah. But they made the wrong choice. But that's all good. I don't want to sound like I'm hating on Josh because his brother is a team in his quarterback. He balled out.
But yes. But he didn't have the year Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson had the best year of his career and he's a two time MVP. It was all statistically better than the two years he won.
Well, Jonathan Ogden is not lying. If we just look at the passing numbers individually, Lamar Jackson had a better year. Then you had Josh Allen had more rushing touchdowns, a four. Lamar Jackson had more yards, 918 to 631. Lamar Jackson could have run more if he wanted to. But here's the problem when it comes to Lamar Jackson. Who and what he is as a quarterback.
It's like the goalpost always moves. Remember a couple of years ago where Lamar Jackson wasn't quarterback enough? He was running around too much. And now he's one of the best passers in the NFL. Now you have to account for his pinpoint passing in addition to what he can do with his legs.
But now he's too dynamic of a threat. This is a guy who everybody wanted to be a wide receiver. This is a guy who was trashed in college.
Hey, man, you need to play another position. Hey, I don't know if you could be a quarterback. This man is a two time NFL MVP. And the reason why he didn't get this one is because of a jackass like Jim Miller, who had Lamar Jackson at fourth in MVP voting after Josh Allen, after Saquon and after Joe Burrow, who ultimately didn't even make the postseason. When it comes to Lamar Jackson, the goalposts always move. I don't get those calls anymore about, oh, he he's not a good passer.
I don't get any calls. But when it comes to some of these individuals who have votes, Lamar Jackson is always behind the eight ball. He has two MVPs and he may have to rest on that because what they didn't want to do, specifically in the case of Jim Miller, I guess he doesn't think Lamar is quarterback enough either. Lamar Jackson is he was not going to get three in a row.
We can't reward him that much. It's the J.R. sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I guess Jim Miller must be best friends with that guy who didn't think Ichiro Suzuki was a Hall of Famer. I'm sure they're good friends. We're going to take a break. And when we come back on the other side, we're going to have a chat with Martin Frank from the Delaware News Journal. Of course, we're going to have a chat with him because he covers those Philadelphia Eagles. A lot of people are talking about the Chiefs. Things are real quiet when it comes to the Eagles.
We've got a lot to do, a lot to start with. It's the J.R. sport re-show coast to coast. The Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the J.R. sport brief.
It is the J.R. sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We're almost exactly two days away from the Super Bowl down in Louisiana. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. It seems like business as usual. This is a rematch from two years ago.
We saw the score 38 to 35 in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs. We're right now to talk about what the Eagles might do on Sunday as someone who covers the team for the Delaware News Journal. Joining us right now from Louisiana from New Orleans is Martin Frank. Martin, how are you? I'm doing pretty good. How about you guys? Excellent.
Thank you for taking the time to join us. What's the atmosphere like right now down in New Orleans? Are we feeling like it's more red or are we seeing more green? It's pretty close actually. There are a lot of Eagles fans here, but I also see a bunch of Chiefs fans. Both teams always travel pretty well. Being in the Super Bowl against each other for the second time in three years, I think there's a lot of excitement among both teams fans. Yes, they're playing each other. It's like the same matchup as far as teams, but it's also different because this Eagles team is a lot different from the one two years ago.
That almost beat the Chiefs who lost 38 to 35, so it's kind of interesting. And there is a lot more excitement for this game than you would think, being that it's a rematch from two years ago. And the folks out, I know it's Bourbon Street, Canal Street, Chappa Tula, the people there are behaving in a civil fashion, right? Everybody's behaving themselves? As far as I know so far, I mean, tonight in Sparta is when the craziness will pick up in earnest, so we'll find out.
You are right. It is Friday today. Tomorrow is Saturday. And depending on what happens on Sunday night, both fan bases will probably be out in full swing. Martin Frank is here with us from the Delaware News Journal. It's been relatively quiet. We haven't gotten any news clips from anybody involved really as relates to the Eagles or the Chiefs, but I did see that the Eagles have been dealing with a little bit of a cold. Jalen Carter, it appears that he at some point, maybe now, is still on the list of, hey, I might be hurt or what's the deal? Is he hurt? Is there sickness going on?
What's up? Actually, he was sick earlier in the week, but the last two days he has been a full participant in practice, so I would imagine he'd be good to go. He wasn't listed with any kind of injury, so it's more of an illness. It's kind of been going around the team a little bit. I know a couple leading up to the NFC Championship game, Jalen Hurts was a little bit under the weather.
We've seen some guys in the locker room last week wearing masks and everything like that, so it's kind of cold and flu season. I think there's been something going around, but this week I think Jalen Carter was pretty much the only one who was listed with an illness, but he should be fine, judging from the fact that he was a full participant in practice these last two days. So I think they're going to need him because he plays pretty much the entire game of defensive tackle. If they're going to get any pressure up the middle on Patrick Mahomes, he's the guy that the Eagles are relying on to do it, so he'll need to be at full strength, and we'll see if he is.
Martin, can you talk about the contributions? Jalen is young up front. We've got two rookies playing defensive back. These guys were eligible in both Quinon and Cooper for Defensive Rookie of the Year.
How did they just turn things around like night and day in a matter of a season? Is it just those three guys, or what else are they working with? Yeah, I mean, those three guys are a big part of it. You also look at Zach Bond at linebacker. Here's the guy the Eagles signed as a WOCOS pre-agent who spent the past four years with the Saints, mostly as a defensive end and a special teams guy. Vic Fangio, the Eagles defensive corner, kind of looks at him and says, I think I can make you an inside linebacker. He was an all-pro. He had 150 tackles during the regular season, so he's been a big part of it.
Jalen Carter, he was the first-round pick in 2023, so he's playing pretty much up to his capabilities. And then you look at Quinon Mitchell and Cooper DeGene, those guys, the Eagles picked them in the first and second round respectively this past spring. So, you know, they needed an infusion of new blood on my defense, especially after the way last year ended. And those four guys have been pretty key for the turnaround that you've seen this year. Well, Martin, you talk about how things ended last year.
We know things ended bad. It seemed that every single game for the Philadelphia Eagles was a close one, that they were barely winning until the bottom topped out. People were looking at Nick Sirianni going, man, if you screwed up next year, you might not be back. Have you noticed a change in the past year in coach Nick Sirianni, or is he still the funny quote machine that he was in day one?
Do people take him seriously, the fan base? Well, it's kind of funny because people thought he'd get fired after the bye week. You know, week four, they were two and two, they just got blown out by Tampa Bay. They had a week off, and then they came back week six and barely beat the Browns, who were awful at that point, they were like one and five. And fans were chanting, like, fire Nick.
I mean, and it was loud, and he went kind of after them after the game, taunting him in the stands and stuff like that, especially this one group that was giving him a lot of fluff, a lot of stuff. So, you know, there were questions about Sirianni's job, like, even early in the season, which seems hard to believe, considering that they've gone 15 and 1 since. So, no, he hasn't really changed his personality a lot, but what he did do after last season was he kind of changed his role. Like, you know, the previous three years, it was his offense that the Eagles were running. You know, they had offense coordinators, obviously, but, you know, after last season they fired Brian Johnson, the offensive coordinator, and they brought in Kellen Moore, which is a totally different approach from the way Sirianni's offense ran the past three years. And to his credit, Nick kind of became like a CEO coach and let Kellen Moore run the offense. You know, Nick would obviously, you know, interject some things here and there. But, yeah, it became Kellen Moore's offense and, you know, it's worked out well, especially after the bye week. So, you know, give Nick a lot of credit for that because he kind of saw what was wrong and he went about and fixed it.
How about that? A coach in the NFC East allowed to make some changes and decisions. Doesn't sound too familiar for some other teams, the Dallas Cowboys.
Martin Frank is here with us from the Delaware News Journal. Speaking of the NFC East, we talk about how the Eagles just kind of retooled on the defense. Like Saquon Barkley, he was in the MVP conversation. He was a finalist for MVP. What have you noticed about Saquon? We can look at what he does physically throughout the course of one year.
What have you noticed about how he fits in and how he carries himself? Yeah, I mean, it's been actually pretty remarkable because the last two years, they've had 1,000-yard running backs. In 2022, it was Miles Sanders. Last year, it was DeAndre Swift. And, like, it's night and day between those guys and Saquon Barkley.
It's not just the yards. I mean, he can do pretty much anything. He's a good blocker in pass protection. He can go out and catch a pass, you know, so he never really has to come off the field.
I mean, obviously, he does, or else he'd be running to the ground. But, you know, like when they had Miles Sanders, there were certain things he couldn't do, so he had to come out of the game. And it was the same thing with DeAndre Swift, and it's just, like, totally different with Barkley. And, you know, teams have to account for him, which makes Jalen Hurts a lot more dangerous as a runner. Not that he does it a ton, but every now and then just to kind of keep the defense from focusing on him. And what it also does, I mean, you haven't seen it that often because they haven't had to do it, is it opens up the passing game.
You know, A.J. Brown and Devante Smith get one-on-one matchups, and, you know, if they're focusing too much on Barkley, you know, Jalen Hurts will just throw it deep to those guys or Dallas Cotter, even. So, I mean, it's opened up pretty much everything with D equals offense. And you saw that, especially in the NFC Championship game. I mean, they put up 55 points against the commanders. So, you know, the offense was working, like, in full sync in that game.
Well, let me ask you this, Martin. You talk about Saquon Barkley. We know he, I don't want to say he sucks up a lot of the air in the offense. But we've seen A.J.
Brown reading a book. You know, Devante is not somebody who makes much noise about anything at all. But are things, and have they been even? I mean, we've even had, I don't want to call it infighting. We've got Brandon Graham saying guys don't get along like they used to. Is that just, like, people have to find something to complain about? Because the Eagles were good all year long.
There was nothing to kvetch about. Yeah, you can pass more, but they were winning. Yeah, I think a lot of it shows just how much A.J. and Devante, especially, were able to, you know, were willing to sacrifice their games because, you know, they've gotten much fewer targets than they have in the past.
I mean, that's, you know, pretty clear. I mean, A.J. went over 1,000 yards for the third straight year, but he also missed three games. So, you know, those guys just have fewer opportunities, and they've had to take advantage of it. And you see, like, you know, there have been games recently, especially where A.J. 's bragging about blocking downfield on Saquon Barkley runs and stuff. So I think they've all kind of bought into, going back to your previous question about Saquon, just, like, how great the guy is and how much they need him. You know, that guys like A.J. and Devante are just as willing to block down the field as they are, you know, to catch the ball and score touchdowns. And they haven't complained about their lack of touches. And it's funny because I asked A.J. Brown about this once recently, and he said, yeah, it's been working, and if it doesn't, if it hadn't, we'd be having a conversation. So, you know, they sacrificed to make this all work.
So I think that's a credit to them. So, Martin, did you get the book? Did you buy the book? I did not.
Okay. But, you know, I see a lot of other guys on the team with it. So I think other guys have been kind of reading up on it.
Not necessarily on the sidelines, but in the locker room. I'm sure. Well, Martin, let's get to the finality. Let's get to the finale, I should say, on Sunday.
What do you expect to see? Who's winning? I think the Eagles are winning, and I'm not just saying that because I cover them. But they're a much better team than they were two years ago when they faced the Chiefs. I mean, you know, Saquon Barkley makes a huge amount of difference. And, you know, we talked earlier about guys like Jalen Carter, you know, replacing Fletcher Cox, which has been, you know, pretty remarkable. And the same thing on the offensive line with Cam Jurgens replacing Jason Kelce.
I mean, there hasn't been any drop-off there. You know, so I think overall, offense and defense, the Eagles are a better team. I mean, obviously there's Mahomes' factor.
He finds a way to pull games out of a hat, which could always happen. But I think overall, if the Eagles are a better team, they should win. I predict 29 to 21. Okay.
You said 29 to 21. Did I hear that? Yep. Yep. Okay. All right. Well, we're going to see. Nothing better than actually finally getting to the game.
We're only two days away. Martin, thank you so much for the time. Where can people follow you and all of your work with the Delaware News Journal? Yeah.
Our website is delawareonline.com, and you can follow me on X or Twitter at mfranknfl. Hey, enjoy yourself. Have fun down on Bourbon Street. Not too much, okay, though? Yeah, absolutely. All right. Thanks for having me. I appreciate it.
Thank you so much. That is Martin Frank, again, of the Delaware News Journal. He's going with the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday 29 to 21. We're going to take a break.
I'll take a look at the phone lines. And then, you know, speaking of last night, it wasn't just all about MVP. It wasn't just all about, you know, who won Defensive Player of the Year, Offensive Rookie of the Year. We found out who is going into the Hall of Fame and who is not. We'll talk about who went in on the other side of the break. It's the JR Sport Brief Show Coast to Coast. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network.
Thank you so much to Martin Frank for joining us in the last break. This is all things Philadelphia Eagles for the Delaware News Journal. You want to phone with them? Not available in all states. In a few minutes, I'm going to tell you, we found out, yeah, Josh Allen is MVP over Lamar Jackson. We just spoke to Martin Frank about the Philadelphia Eagles. He's picking the Eagles to win the Super Bowl 29-21 over the Kansas City Chiefs. And I'm going to tell you in a few minutes about the individuals who made it into the Hall of Fame last night. There was a lot of debate, as we did here on the show, between Hickey and I and elsewhere, about whether or not Eli Manning is a Hall of Famer.
We're going to talk about the individuals that actually made it in. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Jordan is calling up from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Hey, Jordan, you're on the JR Sport Reef Show. What's up? Hey, how's it going? It's going well. How are you feeling on a Friday? You good? Not too bad. I'm excited that it's Friday. Well, I think a lot of people are.
What's on your mind? So, I think that Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson would have been either or I would have no issue with winning the MVP. But I think if, you know, if you're in Josh Allen's camp, I think that the case that you could make was the team was not supposed to be very good. They lost a lot of players on defense. They lost Stephon Diggs, Gabe Davis. This was seen as more of a rebuilding year, I think, for the Bills.
And the fact that they, you know, played so well, I think, has a lot to do with Josh Allen. And then, plus, I would say that the Bills had the two Pro Bowlers versus the Ravens' nine Pro Bowlers. And plus, I also forgot to mention, as soon as the Ravens picked up Derrick Henry, I thought they basically pretty much won the offseason. They're going to win the, I mean, they have a really good chance at winning the Super Bowl at this point. But I still think if Lamar Jackson won it, I would have been totally okay with that.
Yeah, I think most reasonable people would be. I mean, they both had amazing years. And the reason why I said this yesterday, I said this at the top of the hour, to give the football, well, not the football, but to give the award to Josh Allen is not a shock. It seemed natural to me, even throughout the course of the season, that Josh Allen was going to be rewarded for the type of season that he had, regardless of what took place with Lamar Jackson.
And thank you, Jordan, for calling from Calgary excellent points. I believe that if Lamar Jackson, you know, didn't wake up and already have one or two, I think he definitely would have gotten the award because there comes a point in time where if Superman is walking down the street every day, you stop going, hey, that guy just lifted up a car. Hey, that guy lifted up a car again. You just go, oh, there's Superman again. Just just lifting up a car. That's what he does. Clark, yeah, that's what he does.
He just lifts up cars. You're used to it. And at this point, it's old hat. And I think it's human nature. Unless you're that jerk guy who just said, I'm going to put Lamar Jackson fourth on my list. How? There is no reasonable explanation. Oh, yeah, that guy, Jim, he played in the NFL.
Maybe he's been he's been hit a couple of times. OK. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. You can find me online at J.R. Sportbrief. Let's go to Western New York and talk to John.
Not too far from Buffalo. John is here from Rochester. You're on the J.R. Sportbrief show. John, what's up?
Hey, hi, J.R. Thank you for having me on the best sports radio show in the country. And I just want to talk a little about the you know, Josh Allen and the awards last night. And the awards were a little I mean, I only caught the second half and that was kind of the best. And and, you know, one thing that really grabbed me was the memorial to the to the people who passed away with the horns, the band, the horns in the band. That was to me, that was amazing. You know, that's Louisiana, man. They do it.
They do a good home of jazz. Yeah. And I was shocked because I hate to admit it, but I didn't know Chris Mortensen died. I've been out of out of things for a while, you know, with health and everything. And I was like, Chris Mortensen died. Well, there's a lot of there's a lot of stuff on TV. So if you didn't if you didn't miss a lot of stuff, I don't blame you.
OK. But anyways, with Josh Allen, he was great. And what's funny is he I think he should have won it last year because he had better stats than Lamar. And Lamar won it. But Lamar went to the championship game and he got the MVP.
Now it's kind of roles reversed. It's, you know, the better stats. And Josh Allen gets the championship and he gets the MVP. It's like, where's the where's the voting?
I mean, I don't get how these people vote on it. Well, I just told you one guy had Lamar Jackson fourth. So, I mean, you can you can make up that what you will. But something that we also still always have to keep in mind here is that these this is a regular season award. You know, regardless of who moves on to the AFC Championship game specifically as it relates to Lamar and Josh. Yeah. Like the votes and what have you are tabulated before any of that ever happens.
So we got to keep that in mind. How about this, John? I have no idea what happens in the 2025 season. But I tell you that both Lamar Jackson and now Josh Allen will be behind the eight ball to win it again. How about that?
Oh, they will be. And, you know, Josh Allen could do it because I like the way he came out. You know, he came out looking like John Wick last night. I don't know.
Is it me or you? I mean, I don't know, man. He came out looking.
He looked like Keanu Reeves. OK. Did you know? I mean, come on. I didn't think I didn't think about it until you said it, John. But yeah, I got you. Hey, thank you so much for calling from New York, man. We appreciate you.
And I'm glad Josh won it. Go bills. There you go. Next year, John. Next year.
I'm just saying shout outs to everybody in western New York. Hickey. It sounds like everybody got over the AFC Championship loss. So it's been two weeks already, huh? I mean, I will say, looking at him yesterday, it did feel like a little bit like too soon.
What seemed like too soon? Like I'm saying, like looking at Josh Allen, like not that he shouldn't have been happy. I'm just like when you lose a game again to the Chiefs for the fourth time. If you're a Bills fan, look, it's great to see your individual guy recognize you should be very happy. But I'm sure still the pain of the AFC title game has to just override the joy of watching Josh Allen win MVP. I'm sure. But what do you want him to do? Cry up on cry on his way up the stage?
No, no, no, no. I'm not saying I'm not upset. I'm just I'm more just saying that to your point, like, you know, Bills fans still think about the game or I should say forgetting about the game. I think that should still be hanging over the head like that's that's tough. If he wanted to let everybody know how he feels, what he could have done is just taken a sign and put loser on the back of it and just slapped it on his back. That way, when he walked up to the stage, everybody would have saw it.
And then he could have had his acceptance speech. Hmm. Best of both worlds.
Letting everybody know, hey, I'm it's like Scarlet Letter. Hmm. No, I think it's a little harsh. OK. Well, did he lose? He did lose. You see a loser of that game. He's the loser.
That game. Is he a loser by technical definition? Yes.
Yes. He's a loser and an MVP. But you can be both. He's a loser of the AFC Championship game. And he is the MVP of this season. Well, you know, someone who wouldn't care. Cam Newton wouldn't care.
He would not care about losing the title game. Well, he's like, I got he's like, I got my MVP award. The other guys on the team, they didn't carry their load. So I did my job. I did my job.
I'm MVP. Who cares what those other guys did? And if you didn't hear what Cam Cam Newton said that a few weeks ago when asked whether or not he would take a Super Bowl or keep his MVP. And he said, man, I'd I'd keep my I keep my MVP instead of the Super Bowl. Sounds like a great team player.
Yeah, not not really. It's the J.R. Sportbrie show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break when we come back on the other side of the break. I told you about the guys who got into the Hall of Fame. I'm going to tell you who they are.
You'll hear from some of them. And then we're going to talk about a guy who is definitely going into the Hall of Fame. His name is Patrick Mahomes. And then what about the other quarterback? I mean, can Jalen Hurts start building himself a Hall of Fame resume? We'll get into it. It's the J.R. Sportbrie show coast to coast the Infinity Sports Network.
