It is the JR Sport Brief Show here on the Infinity Sports Network.
I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody tuned in all over North America. It has been a busy weekend. It's been a busy Monday. It's Super Bowl opening night.
We're less than a week away from the game. The NBA trade deadline is this upcoming Thursday, and we've had trade rumors for about a month in a Jimmy Butler. We have NFL Future Hall of Famers requesting trades. Miles Garrett.
We have a former Super Bowl MVP who's been told, We don't want you anymore. That's Cooper Cup. It's February. Next week is Valentine's Day. They say love is in the air. Trades are in the air.
It doesn't matter what sport it is. We have trade rumors for about a month. It has been a busy week. The NFL Super Bowl series is about a minute away from the game. requests that are garnering more attention than Super Bowl opening night.
Crazy. Thank you to super producer and host Ryan Hickey in New York City holding it down on the boards. Thank you to everybody listening on the free Odyssey app, your local infinity sports network affiliates Sirius XM 375.
If you got a smart speaker, ask it to play the infinity sports network. We've got a busy show. Thank you to Jonah Javad for joining us from WFAA in Dallas television station to talk about these maps, the disappointment of their fan base. Thank you to Lindsay Rhodes for joining us from Sumer sports. The news broke about Cooper cup, the Rams want to get rid of him. The second that we joined or Lindsay joined us and then in about 20 minutes we're going to have a conversation with former Denver Broncos cornerback, uh, Lee low lag. Lee low will be here with us. I'm going to get an NFL player's perspective on what he looks for, what he's going to look at when we see Patrick, my homes and Jalen hurts on that field.
This upcoming Sunday, you want to be a part of the show is simple 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 that's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. I told you it's been a wild weekend. It's been a wild day. Miles Garrett says that he wants out from the Browns. He wants the chance and the opportunity to compete for super bowls.
And obviously that is not something that is going to happen with the Cleveland Browns. We're trying to figure out what they want to do with the second overall pick in this year's draft. Cooper cup puts out his message that the team, the Rams are ready to move on, that they're going to be looking to trade him as soon as possible. We talked about Luca Doncic moving on. Now a member of the Los Angeles Lakers still out with that calf strain. Anthony Davis, uh, still out with that, that midsection strain. So trading two injured guys for each other.
And then about 30 minutes ago, this is crazy. Chris Mannix, longtime S I basically said, because things don't appear to be moving with Jimmy Butler and the Phoenix Suns and a Miami Heat, that the Phoenix Suns are seriously considering trading Kevin Durant if they can't get their hands on Jimmy Butler because Bradley Beal, certainly it doesn't look like he's going to remove his no trade clause. It looks like he wants to stay settled in Phoenix, Arizona.
What a world, what a different world this is. He's like, man, y'all are still paying me. I got an old trade clause.
You do not want me here, but here I will stay. And this means that Jimmy Butler may not get what he wants. And now Kevin Durant may have to leave. It was Kevin Durant, the biggest name, the biggest star who spoke to the media on Saturday night, just finished playing a game.
And he was in the locker room. And Kevin Durant said, damn it, if Luca Doncic can be traded, then anybody can be traded. Listen to Durant. It's insane. It's crazy, crazy. I would have never thought Luca Doncic would get traded at this age, you know, mid-season. NBA is a little hell of a place, man, that he can get traded. I mean, anybody's up for grabs, you know. Anybody is up for grabs.
This is wild stuff. Nico Harrison, the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks, the most hated man in Texas today. Hickey, he's more hated than Jerry Jones. Oh, absolutely. No, Jerry, I mean, you're talking about a happy man.
Actually, Jerry loves the attention. He's probably upset today. Yeah.
And we're talking about the Mavs, not the Cowboys. He's going to say something tomorrow, huh? You wait. Well, all of a sudden, emergency press conference on radio will be at every single radio station possible tomorrow. Yeah, he has to get that face time. Well, let's listen to the most hated man in Dallas, in Texas, Nico Harrison. He spoke yesterday and this is what he had to say to the fans in Dallas and the Metroplex in Texas who are not happy with the trade.
Listen. We are either frustrated, but it's something that that that we believe in as a as an organization that's going to make us better. We believe that it sets us up to win not only now, but also in the future. And when we win, I believe the frustration will go away.
Oh, bro. Now, y'all ain't going to win and then you're going to get fired. It's not going to take too long. Anthony Day, see, nobody has a crystal ball.
But I think we can all agree most reasonable people would agree. It is more likely that a combination of Anthony Davis slash Kyrie Irving are injured. As these are two guys now pushing, well, 32 years old already with injury histories. That the fans in Dallas just stop showing up. That the team realizes that they have no assets to grow with and that they just end up being bad with two aging stars on their on their rosters.
And that's it. And then the fans stop showing up. And then Anthony Davis gets moved again or Kyrie Irving gets moved again. They have to start over. And Nico Harrison is just given the boot and he goes back into the corporate world to work for Nike or some other shoe company.
And that's all she wrote. I think that's the most likeliest of outcomes. And then for Kevin Durant, who we learned via Chris Mannix that the sons are interested in moving him and the Warriors are interested in reuniting him.
With Steph Curry and Draymond Green. While the things have happened, as we saw over the weekend. That was cool, though. Let's get it again.
Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Give me some more trades. Russell is here from Idaho. You're on the JR sport re-show. What's going on with you, Russell? Hey, I'm here. Got me loud and clear.
I got you loud and clear. What's on your mind? Hey, not too much.
Just go along with this old talk you got right now. And I think I talked to you a while ago and said, what would happen if LeBron came up to the Warriors? Well, here we go. Well, it could be something that could bother to happen. Well, it'd be interesting to see, you know, how that. Imagine, could you imagine Durant and LeBron and Steph and Draymond and all those guys together? Well, I do. Yeah, I want to I want to respond to you right now, Russell.
Thank you for calling from Idaho. Is that well, first of all, LeBron James has a player option. LeBron James could do it at this point of his career, what he wants. He can play next season for fifty, fifty two million dollars. And I think all things considered that that he's going to go ahead and do that. It sounds great how they fit all of those contracts in like today.
Now, I have no idea. Like, let's be real. And maybe the Golden State Warriors couldn't stand or they thought Klay Thompson was so cooked that they just came to the conclusion that, you know, we're not going to pay him. We got a lowball him and we don't even want him back. But if you think about the remaining salaries, how the hell this all fits without them just paying ridiculous amounts of money? And I get it.
Maybe it's February. A Steph Curry for this season is making fifty five million dollars, fifty five by himself. OK, you think about Kevin Durant. His salary right now is fifty million dollars.
All right. Let's think about LeBron James salary today. Right now. Forty nine million dollars. And I think Draymond, I think he might be at twenty five. Yes, he is. Twenty four million dollars.
Piggy, who's sitting on the bench, me and you? You might be too expensive for him. Yeah, I just maybe next year when when LeBron can opt out, is LeBron going to say, hey, you know, I'll play for free. It's me, LeBron. I mean, he hasn't shown a willingness to do that with the Lakers. And by the way, he took a salary reduction so they could basically add his son.
So it's not going to LeBron, but it's going to Bronny is going to the same damn family. I just don't think that'd be too much. Maybe maybe next year. It would not be it would not be cool to see the Olympic team whooping ass in a regular season in the pool.
Wouldn't that be cool? Oh, it just feels like it's like at this point, like it's over. Oh, man.
Like so it's. Wait, wait. We know to see Steph Curry, Durant and LeBron on the same team, wouldn't that be like one great final last hurrah?
I couldn't have met. It seemed like the last team that tried to do that. And it didn't work was the Lakers. The Lakers at one point had Kobe. And I'm not talking about that Steve Nash, Dwight Howard crap I'm talking about when the Lakers had Kobe in Shaq and then they added Carmelone and then also Gary Payton. That would be the closest thing to that.
And that didn't work out. That's what I mean. Like, that's what I think. It's like it would be interesting for sure. But like, do I think like, would it be fun or cool or they win?
I don't feel like it just feels like they're all like, this is just too old. And what you're talking about with the salary is like, again, three guys. I think we've seen now in the NBA, you need more than two or three guys. The Phoenix Suns are a great example of that. With Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, you know, even especially with KD and Booker the last few years, they've been great in the playoffs.
The problem is that they have no help around them. And such while it would be fun, I guess, to see like, you know, the Olympic crew back together at ages 30, 40, 40, 41, 30, what do you say, seven, seven and 36. Yeah, I think it I think it'd be cool.
I would say, Hickey, I would watch the games like it would be intriguing. Don't get me like, yeah, I think there's a difference between and it's never been done and they have a history. That's the difference between some of this other slap that the slap that gets kind of thrown together. They have a history. They do love basketball. You're right about that.
They do. And in case of obviously, Steph and Katie championships. But that is just an amazing story. USA basketball champions, multiple time goals. I don't know how many won together. You know, Steph Curry just got his first. But to take these guys in the old age, which sounds crazy, and to see what they can do throughout the course of a season, can they push for a championship? I think it's it's unprecedented in basketball and in this type of way, just because of their their connection. We've seen teams, you know, in baseball just try to slap together collections of talent. The Dodgers have done it, just won a championship and they're trying to go for another one.
They probably win if they don't get hurt. The New York Yankees at one point in time, George Steinbrenner was collecting. And these guys were older, too. But the Roger Clemens, you want to Cy Young, we know what he was doing. But Roger Clemens and Gary Sheffield and Giambi, all these guys on one team is like, what are they doing?
And to have a basketball team, just take future Hall of Famers and just put them all on the same squad. They've all had success there. They've all been MVPs. They've all been champions. They won gold medals together.
Picky there has never been a story like it. I'm rooting for it to happen. I want I want Jimmy Butler to stay in Miami and suffer, OK? I want Durant back on the Warriors. And this is LeBron. He rejected any overtures by the Warriors last year.
There's no guarantee. LeBron James might say, man, no guys are washed up up there in northern California. LeBron James might say, I'm staying right here with Luca. He might he might feel better about and then let's be or he can say I can I don't want to say hi. Wouldn't they all be a benefit to each other being together as opposed to being apart?
Well, it's just actually that was the other question I'm going to ask you, like obviously I'm assuming if this trio does happen, it's going to be in Golden State. I guess forget the legacy of Katie for a second, because he's bats around and really has planted no roots. And I guess you could say the same about LeBron. But at least he's been places for longer and been a little more consistent. Does it I don't say take away.
That's not that's not the right word. But like, does it when you see a player, let's say, of LeBron's caliber now finish his career and go to Golden State and add another team now that he plays for, even if it's for just a year or two. Does it impact at all? Like, I don't know. It just feels for someone, his talent, like you're really going to all those teams.
I don't know. No, I think we've already entered into that era where, you know, having that Steph Curry on one team where he's still playing. So let me not use him. But a Kobe or Tim Duncan or dirt like that was I think that was the last of of that.
And we saw what even some of their contemporaries who had to end up on other teams, Allen Iverson certainly didn't finish where he started in Philadelphia. I just I think I don't think there's any legacies that are affected. I don't think there's any changes. I think this is this is more commonplace. And what we see is going to be more commonplace. I don't know.
Maybe we're now entering into a different era as we hopefully move into the next 10 years of a women Yama. We see how much money the players are making. Maybe that slows down some of the movement. Maybe in one case, that's why, you know, a Jimmy Butler is not moved or Bradley Beal is not moved. Even with that, no trade clause. I just think the idea of. I stayed with the team and now, you know, I'm going to stay with them or play for multiple teams is damaging to a legacy.
I don't think so. Like I still think of Gary Payton. I think about GP, Seattle Supersonics, OK, as much as he won a title with the Heat, did win one with the Lakers. I think about Patrick Ewing. It's still an eyesore to think about Patrick Ewing wearing a magic jersey or what's that other ugly one? The magic. Oh, my God.
Those things are like collector's items. You think about Carmelo Anthony, man played for Oklahoma City. Like I remember Carmelo as a nugget and as a Nick.
And where else was he? He was in Portland, too, like Rockets Carmelo Carmelo played for the Rockets, Denny. I remember Carmelo.
He was traded to Atlanta, got a jersey and never played, you know, so it's me. That's I'm thinking of. Yeah.
That's I think that's what it was. No. But he did. Carmelo did. Did he play for the Rockets? I thought he did. I got to look that up. Right. Maybe that's just like old school. No, he did.
Twenty, eighteen and nineteen. See, we don't even know. It's like the Nuggets, the Knicks, OKC, Houston, Portland. We didn't even talk about Carmelo. His last time he played was on the Lakers. I forgot about that. I completely forgot. Yeah. This is after they won a championship.
He's like, oh, yeah, well, play with my buddy LeBron. In twenty twenty one. Twenty one.
Twenty two. Wow. He was in the league a lot more easily than I thought. Yeah.
This is also crazy. And maybe it's because LeBron is still playing in their contemporaries. Carmelo is only 40.
OK, I don't know, maybe it's tough because you watch him and LeBron, they play their whole lives against each other and LeBron is still going and Carmelo, Anthony's been doing podcasts for years now. It's wild, Hickey, I'm here for the nostalgia tour, OK? I would. I would love to see it. Do I think it's going to happen?
No, but I would love it. Get Durant back to Golden State, please. And then LeBron, I doubt he leaves L.A., so he leave Luca, I don't know.
Maybe he thinks Luca's fat, too. I'd love to see it happen. It's the JR sport ratio here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we're going to talk some NFL football. We're going to be joined by former cornerback for the Denver Broncos, Lilo Lang.
He played cornerback. I'm going to ask him about defending quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, like Jalen Hurts. I'm going to ask him about tackling someone like Saquon Barkley. I'm going to ask him this Broncos veteran.
I'm going to ask him about their new quarterback and Bo Nix, and then I want to ask him some health related questions as you know, the NFL continues to change from when he played in the 90s. We got a lot to do. Lilo Lang is going to join us on the other side of the break.
Of course, at the end of the show, we're going to take a look at a few things that took place this day in sports history. You're locked in. It's the JR sport ratio. I'll be here as long as I don't get traded.
Don't move. You're listening to the JR sport brief. It's the JR sport ratio here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We know today is a big day. It's a big week in the NFL.
It's the media day. We got teams talking. We got players talking. We got clown shows. We got circuses.
We have a lot. Right now, we're going to focus in on football. We're being joined by someone right now who played in the league.
We're talking about cornerback for the Denver Broncos. He's now going to educate us, not just about the big game in this upcoming Sunday, but something very special dealing with health and hearts. Joining us right now is Lilo Lang. Lilo, how are you?
Hey, I'm doing great. Thanks for having me, JR. I really appreciate it.
No, thank you so much. We're definitely going to talk about what you're doing with heartflow.com and the game for registry. We're going to get there. I got to ask you about the game. You playing cornerback. I know you watch the game differently than most of us. What impresses you the most about the two starting quarterbacks that we're going to see on Sunday in Mahomes and in Hertz? I think one of the most important things you see about these two guys is that both of them can create plays after things break down. And it seems like that's what quarterbacks do in the league, are the quarterbacks that's having success that when the pressure is on them, they can get out of the pocket and make things happen. And both of them do it very well. Well, Lilo, when you think about the evolution of the game, just from when you played in the 90s up until now, it's still crazy to think it's 2025. Do you think a corner's job is much more difficult given the passing and the unpredictability of the QBs?
Absolutely. Not only the passing with the QBs and their ability to scramble and run and create and make things happen with their legs, but more importantly, the receivers. The size of the receivers now is amazing. Most receivers are 6'3 to 6'5.
When I played, they were probably averaging 5, 11, 6 feet. And so both of those, the combination of both of those really make things difficult for a defensive back. You got to stay in your coverage longer.
And so it just, it makes it very, very challenging. You know, playing defensive back is probably one of the most difficult positions to play in the NFL. Former cornerback for the Broncos, Leo Lang, is here with us on the JR Sport Brief Show Coast to Coast. We know the Kansas City Chiefs, they're going to be looking at a running back. They're going to look at Saquon Barkley, who was built like a truck and moves like a Ferrari to try to keep him out of the end zone.
What do you expect with trying to stop him? We know the Eagles, their defense is good. The Chiefs is having an improved defense.
What are your thoughts? I think the Chiefs will put nine in the box. I think they will do everything they can to stop Saquon Barkley from, you know, performing and doing well and make Jalen Hurst beat him. So I think putting nine in the box, trying to do everything they can to stop the run, playing a lot of man to man defense and making Jalen beat them is, I think that's going to be their course of action.
Do you think the Chiefs are going to be successful in getting that three in a row? You know, I'm not going to put anything past them because of Patrick Mahomes. He's a great quarterback. He knows how to win and he figures out ways to make big plays, not only throwing the ball, but running the ball in key situations and everything.
And so I don't want to put anything past them, but I am cheering for the Eagles to get a victory. Lee Lo Lang is here with us, we know you, you played on the same team as a Hall of Fame quarterback and Mr. Elway. What made him special? We all heard and saw and knew that he was a ridiculous athlete. He'd be running around crazy if he was still playing today, huh? Yes, the game suits him very well for his athletic ability. John is the type of person that he could do just about anything, you know, and do it at a very high level above average. So I don't care if it's playing golf, baseball, basketball, checkers, whatever it is, he, he did very well at it and, you know, his athletic ability would suit this game today very well.
He would be a top quarterback in this league. Well, Lee Lo, when you talk about what the Broncos are currently doing, they have Bo Nix, they have Sean Payton, I'd say surprisingly, they've had success in that first year. People are excited about what Bo Nix brings to the table.
What have you seen? I know you keep up with those Broncos. Absolutely. And, you know, it's just really good to see them playing some good football once again, very competitive, you know, even exciting to watch and, you know, to see Bo Nix come in as a rookie and do what he did, you know, learning the offense, getting adapted to the speed of the game. Cause a lot of people don't know and understand that the speed of the game is the hardest thing to adjust to coming out of college. And he did a very good job of doing that, you know, teams blitzing early in the season. It affected him a little bit, but he got better and better each and every week. And that's all you can ever ask of a rookie quarterback is to just continue to improve.
Former Bronco Lee Lo Lang here with us on the JR sport brief show. When you think about the evolution of that quarterback position and the success that we see early on rookies, do you think that the game has changed to allow an easier integration or do you think, you know, there's so much money involved, we just got to throw the rookies out there now? Well, I think the coaches are doing a good job of, you know, spoon feeding the quarterbacks, their playbook, instead of trying to throw it all at them at once, give them a little bit here, let them, you know, digest that, understand that, move forward and add a little bit as the season goes along.
And, you know, these guys are, you know, pretty prepared coming out of college as well with reading defenses and understanding, you know, different gamesmanship, the defensive coordinator coordinators are going to try to have against them and, you know, the coaching, their athletic ability and, you know, their partners in crime, their teammates, you know, helping them out really benefits them to, you know, execute and be able to play a little earlier than guys did in the past. So, Lelo, we know that there's at least a public emphasis from the league about health and player health and player safety and from when you played in the 90s versus what we see now and recognition in the tent and there's independent neurologists and what have you on the field. We know the NFL has tried to be forward facing about health. What are you working on right now as it relates to heart health and tell us about the game for registries, very unique. Well, I'm very proud and very excited to be partnering with Dr. Boone in heart flow, you know, to encourage, you know, all retired athletes, former NFL players to take advantage of just helpful technology that they have that takes 3D images of your heart arteries and, you know, it gives you an opportunity to see, you know, your cardiovascular health ahead of time before something, and that's, you know, that's always been a major problem. You know, heart disease, you know, is a pillar not only in the United States but worldwide and, you know, for guys to be able to get an in-depth look, a 3D look at their cardiovascular health, it's amazing. You know, it tells you the percentage of blockage that you may have in your arteries, if there are any narrowing of the arteries, any plaque buildup, and it also gives you an opportunity to sit down with Dr. Boone who is a leader in this field and he can give you some recommendations to move forward, you know, especially if you see some issues there that can help you sit down with your doctor and get a better understanding of what would be some things you could put in place to, you know, not only help you take care of your heart health but to also live longer. No, we know that.
We encourage everybody to go to heartflow.com to find out more information because, I mean, that's what keeps everybody ticking. We know how important that is. When you look at the league and the popularity and the expansion of it just throughout the decade since your involvement, what are your thoughts on an expansion, like moving to an 18 games, eliminating a preseason, do you think that's too much of a good thing? You never can have too much of a good thing. I think if you can eliminate, you know, more of those preseason games, I think guys would be, you know, more excited about, you know, adding more games to the schedule and everything, and so it depends on how they go about it.
If they reduce the preseason games and, you know, I think they've already done that instead of four preseason games, I think it's a number of about, you know, two or three for teams now. I think guys will, you know, jump all over that. Lolo, thank you so much for the time. I want to encourage everybody again to check out heartflow.com. Where can people keep up with you? Well, hey, you know, currently I'm a business banker with a national bank called PNC Bank, and so if you want to get with me, you can go to lilo.lang.pnc.com and you can get directly in contact with me. You know, I help businesses from one million to five million with business loans, lines of credit.
Also, you know, open checking accounts and things of that nature and, you know, can also help them on the personal side as well. Well, Lilo, we appreciate all your work helping people out and now also educating folks about heart health. Thank you. We're going to catch you on down the line. Okay, Lilo. All right. Thank you so much, JR. I really appreciate your time and I look forward to talking to you sometime in the future. Hey, I'm going to shoot you an email. We got something to talk about, Lilo, okay?
Absolutely. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. That is Denver Bronco veteran Lilo Lang.
Make sure you go to heartflow.com. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network 855 212 42 27.
That's 855 212 42 27. What a day it's been. What a weekend it's been. What a Monday it's been.
What a show it's been. Cooper Cupp told that the Rams are going to trade him. He's done in Los Angeles for the Rams, at least. Miles Garrett earlier today, letting the world know that he has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. We're getting word that with Jimmy Butler and the Suns and Heat not able to come to an agreement and I guess Bradley Beal not moving, his no trade clause, that the Suns are entertaining, potentially moving Kevin Durant, maybe even to the Golden State Warriors.
What a reunion that would be for him and Steph Curry. It's been a day and then it's Super Bowl opening night. You know, we didn't even talk about Chip Kelly, who's now the new offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders. He's going to be calling the plays, putting the offense together for Pete Cowell and Tom Brady, who, by the way, amongst other things, there's so much going on today. Roger Goodell spoke to the media, had his traditional press conference before NFL opening night. Roger Goodell asked about everything from DEI. He said, we, the NFL, are not changing our thought processes when it comes to DEI, everything to even the Kansas City Chiefs and whether or not the refs are biased towards these Chiefs. Listen to what Roger Goodell had to say earlier today about this idea of the refs having the fix in for the Chiefs.
I understand that. I think it reflects a lot of the fans' passion. I think it also is a reminder for us how important officiating is. And I think the men and women that officiate in the NFL are outstanding. They have the highest possible standards.
That's ridiculous theory for anyone who might take it seriously. But at the end of the day, you know, it's something we always have to continue to work on. How do we make our officiating better at all times? Yeah, you don't want to ruin the integrity of the game. And when you're the league, when you're the NFL and you're making more money than everybody hand over fist, you don't want to screw up the money. You know, we even heard earlier today that Major League Baseball, it terminated one of its umpires for having a co-account or shared sports betting account. It's like you can't do that. Nobody's trying to mess up the money. These dudes would would get fired, let alone the NFL would be it'd be the WWE.
You can't go ahead and script that. And then speaking of Chip Kelly joining the Raiders, working for Tom Brady, and now you got Spytek and Pete Carroll. This is another question posed to Roger Goodell. How the hell is Tom Brady able to own the Raiders, have a piece of the Raiders and be a broadcaster? Is this not a conflict of interest? And Roger Goodell said, nope. Tom has been incredibly cooperative.
He calls frequently about it and says, am I doing OK? And I think he's serious about making sure that he separates these two and he doesn't put the league or anyone in a position of conflict. OK. Yeah.
Yeah. Why not? He's like everybody else. He wants to make money with his investment into the Raiders and have success there.
And then Tom Brady wants to collect his thirty seven million dollars a year being a broadcaster on Fox. Hickey, is he going to lay an egg in the Super Bowl? I hope not. I hope not either. I hope not. It's going to be the first time I really ever hear the guy.
No, I did hear him one game and it was just like, eh, I don't know what game it was, but I heard him one game like, what is this? Everything forced in. Now, we'll see. Looks like Luka Doncic might be able to debut on Saturday against the Pacers.
OK. Hickey, you got to keep my head on the swivel. So much news. This is going to be a wild week. We got Champ Bailey who's going to come. We got a Hall of Famer tomorrow. Another Bronco.
Hickey. I'm excited. That's really a lot of fun.
That should be a lot of fun. Yeah. Champ is a champ is a good dude. He's a good dude.
It's a pleasure to chat with him, former Georgia Bulldog. Yeah. So we'll have a Champ Bailey tomorrow. We'll see if anybody else gets traded between now and the deadline for the NBA. We'll see if there are any more rumors from the NFL side of things as well. It's the end of the show.
You know what that means. It's time to take a look at a few things that took place this day in sports history. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for This Day in Sports History.
You see, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here on the Infinity Sports Network. Today is February 3rd. The year is 2025 and there were quite a few things that took place this day in sports history. Let's start with something that was bad and ugly. February 3rd, 2001.
You won't see this guy too often or I think at all, maybe. Vince McMahon. He had his opening speech because the XFL just got underway. On behalf of the players and coaches in the XFL, we welcome you to our brand of football. We welcome you to our game.
We invite you to enjoy the all-access pass that gives you freedom to go places that other leagues have determined to be off limits. The XFL sucked. They only lasted one season until they brought it back with the Rock and now it's no longer the XFL, it's the UFL. Great spring football.
Can't get enough. February 3rd, 2025. The New England Patriots, they won their very first championship. You might remember Tom Brady wasn't supposed to be playing that season at all. Drew Bledsoe got knocked out. He helped orchestrate the game-winning drive, which set up this kick.
Adam Vinatieri, Pats Radio Network, Pats beating those Panthers. Connie Paxton will snap from the far hash mark, angle to the left for Adam Vinatieri, 48-yard field goal attempt. Set to go. Ball down. Kick up.
Kick is on the way. And it is good. It's good.
It's good. Adam Vinatieri booms a 48-yard field goal and the game is over. And the Patriots are Super Bowl champions. The Patriots are Super Bowl champions. The best team in the National Football League.
I'm getting ahead of myself. That first one, they beat the Rams. That was 2002.
February 3rd, 2008. How about this one? This one was a loser for the Patriots. The Giants beat the Pats in this undefeated season, 17-14. This is what's getting Eli into the Hall of Fame. A Tyree helmet catch, a Plaxico Barrow touchdown, Plaxo, excuse me, Plaxico Burris touchdown.
This is on Fox. Pressure from Thomas off the edge. Eli Manning stays on his feet. Airs it out down the field, it is caught by Tyree. Manning lobs it, Burris alone, touchdown New York.
February 3rd, 2013. In New Orleans, the Super Bowl, the power went out. You might remember this. The Ravens beat the Niners, 34-31. Jacoby Jones, a big part of that, a 109-yard kickoff return. That game was on CBS. This could be a run back from 19 for Jacoby Jones.
And look at him go. Jones is past the 50 and he is flying inside the 20 and a kickoff return. 109 yards and a touchdown, an all-time record. That was 2013.
Let's go to 2019. There's something about February 3rd and the Patriots and the Super Bowl. The Patriots won their sixth and final Super Bowl with Tom Brady.
They beat the Rams in an ugly game, 13-3. This is Gronk going to the two-yard line and Soni Michel giving him a touchdown, CBS. Same exact play again. Edelman over the middle, second and three. Down the field they go.
Gronkowski has it at the two-yard line. From the two, first and goal, running it for the touchdown, Soni Michel, and now the first touchdown of Super Bowl 53. Man, Hickey, that was a boring-ass game. We can't get a game, there's no way we can get a game that boring this upcoming Sunday.
I hated that game. 3-3 halfway through the fourth quarter, I would agree. Could you imagine we're sitting there, 3-3 halfway through the fourth quarter on Sunday, there's no shot. Nah, hell no.
Hell to the nog. Last time it was what, 38-35, we got an absolute barn burner, hopefully we get that again. Got a field goal. Sign me up for that one again. I'm here for it. What a day.
