It is!
The JR Sportbrief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Happy Monday to you. Happy December 2nd to you. Hope you had a tremendous weekend. I hope you had a great holiday. I hope you didn't get into a fight at the dinner table. I hope you didn't get into a fight at a football game. I hope you didn't plant a flag.
I hope you didn't get fired like Ibra Flus. Man, there's just so much that has taken place since I've been here on the airwaves with you. But it's good to be back.
I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you so much to super producer and host Ryan Hickey holding it down for us in New York City. Welcome to the beginning of the show.
This is when we get started every weekday. 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. You can always lock in on the free Odyssey app, your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate. You've got Sirius XM and Channel 158. If you've got a smart speaker, you ask the speaker to play the Infinity.
Sports Network. I don't even know where to begin. Let me tell you this. First of all, if you want to be a part of the show, you can do that. It's real simple. It's real easy. The phone number 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. And you can find me online. I am at JR Sport Brief. Moving towards conference games and college football. I'm going to tell you about the 49ers in a second. If you didn't watch that snow game and figure that they were cooked, man, we got some news for you in a second regarding both of the 49ers starting running backs. They're both cooked for the season. That's Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason.
We'll talk about that in a second. We've got more football wrapping up week 13 tonight. We have the Browns.
Yeah, team, everybody's excited. The watch is going to take on a surprising team. The Denver Broncos. It will be surprising if the Denver Broncos don't move their record tonight.
This is crazy to say. It's an eight and five with a rookie quarterback. I guess Sean Payton has a little less to complain about with Bo Nix running the show. Before we get into the 49ers and talk about, you know, some of the weekend stuff. There's a lot of stuff.
A lot of things that have taken place. On both the college and the professional side that we're going to get into. A matter of fact, Jerry Palm is going to join us. CBS Sports College Expert is going to come through and join us next hour to talk about some of these teams that took some major L's over the weekend. I'm talking about you, Ohio State. I'm talking about you, Miami.
And then some more. So we got Jerry Palm joining us next hour. Hickey, how are you, man? Did you have a good holiday?
I did. It flew by really quickly, but it was fun. No fighting, which is always. I mean, my family really never fights, so that's actually not really a concern.
But I know this time, for whatever reason, is the time where everyone wants to talk about the most controversial topics possible. Oh, boy. Did not happen. Good. Watch them. Well, I was going to say, watch some good football.
That's a lie. We watch some bad football. We watch a lot of bad football, actually. What bad football were you watching?
What the hell you were looking at? Well, I was watching Matt Eberfluss sit there, watch a clock tick down, not realize he's allowed to call time out. I watched that debacle of a Giants Cowboys game.
Try to watch Tua play in the cold. But yeah, well, let's go back to Eberfluss. Can you believe he tried to explain away his mistake? Did you?
That was basically at that point in time. Hey, guys, just fire me. Like, I don't want to be here. Yeah, we can't score. Yeah, we're not worth a damn.
But at this point, just go ahead and give me the boot. Six straight losses. The offense stunk.
And then the guy didn't know how to get set in field goal position. I'm watching it at home. I'm going, wait a minute. I do this. Well, I haven't done it in a long time. I used to do that in Madden like a pro. He can't do that in real life.
He's getting paid millions of dollars. And I bet you 95% of people would know what to do. And like you said, after the game, he'd be like, Yeah, I like what we did.
What do you mean you like what you did? You lost the game because of it. I just I mean, mind blowingly bad.
You know, you know what? Let's get this loser out the way because we're not going to talk about him for a long time. He's gone. He's gone. Gone and forgotten for sure. He is. Let's listen to former Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberfluss.
He talked about whether or not he had any regrets, despite embarrassing himself and the Bears on Thursday for the whole country to see. Listen to this. I like what we did there. Again, once it's under seven, you know, you're going to you're going to call, you know, timeout there or actually under 12. And then really, you don't have an option, you know, because it's third to fourth. You got to throw it into the end zone then. So to me, it's I think we handled it the right way. I do believe that, you know, you just re-rack the play, get it in bounce and call timeout.
And that's why we held it and didn't work out the way we wanted it to. And then they fired him. There you have it. All the best to Matt Eberfluss and whatever the hell he's going to do next. I don't know. Maybe somebody hires him as a coordinator in the NFL. Maybe he has to go to college.
I have no idea. I know he will be on vacation for the next several months. And the Chicago Bears, they move on. We'll talk more about the Chicago Bears later on in the show.
Talking about somebody, they are not on vacation, but you will not see them the rest of the year. This was this was a visually stimulating game last night, if not so much because the football stunk. It took place in the snow. You got to run the ball. You got to throw it. Somebody is cold.
People are slipping and falling. I'm talking about the 49ers. They're cooked. I mentioned to you a few minutes ago that Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason are going on injured reserve. Here you have Christian McCaffrey. We saw him go down lane trying to make a cut in the snow behind the line of scrimmage. And everybody's like, oh, he blew out his Achilles. And it's like, no, he didn't blow out his Achilles. He actually has a PCL injury that is going to require six weeks for him to return. Let's remember, he missed the first half of the season about eight weeks because Christian McCaffrey had tendinitis in both of his Achilles and him and his dad, his dad, Ed, great wide receiver for the Denver Broncos and former New York John as well.
Ed basically said, my boy has been working out and his legs are tired. Well, after losing last night to the Bills 35 to 10 in western New York, the Bills have clinched the AFC East, which is not too difficult. Have you seen the Jets? Losers again. Have you seen the Dolphins?
Freezing their asses off. Have you seen the Patriots? I mean, damn, Anthony Richardson came back and said, I'm going to beat you guys. So, yeah, of course, the Buffalo Bills are going to win the AFC East and we got plenty of time to talk about them. The 49ers, they're done. I had hope that if they were going to stay healthy, that the San Francisco 49ers would be able to turn things around. Not happening. Brandon Iyuk out for the season.
We saw what happened. You have Christian McCaffrey now out for the season. His backup, Jordan Mason.
It was revealed about an hour ago. He is also out for the season with a high ankle sprain. Those certainly take more than a month to heal. And last time I checked up, we don't have a month left in the season. The 49ers, Super Bowl representatives to the NFC, NFC Conference and Championship games, multiple time representatives. Not this year. Sorry. The 49ers are too hurt.
They're too busted up. Brock Purdy will certainly still get himself a big old contract, but this team is done. And it was pretty hilarious.
This was yesterday. Kyle Shanahan, the head coach who's taken him to Super Bowls and hasn't won yet and conference championships. Either way, after the game yesterday, in the snow, moving him to a record of 5-7, he says, you know what? Injuries?
Being hurt? It is not why we, the 49ers, stink. We got a lot more pride than this. We definitely know we have some people out and stuff, but we can play a lot better than that. Having three turnovers both of these weeks and getting none.
I think that's six to zero in two weeks. And when you do that and you don't stop the run like we have in these last two weeks, you can guess the outcome. Yeah, but yesterday was an anomaly.
Come on. You're not playing every game in the 28 degree weather and a snowstorm bouncing off the lake. You're not doing that every game. The 49ers are cooked because of the injuries. I mean, dammit, maybe they'd be in a better spot if Christian McCaffrey didn't miss the beginning part of the season because he worked out too hard. And if you looked at Christian McCaffrey, the guy's built like a truck, maybe he does work out too hard. Maybe he needs to do more yoga. I don't know. Maybe he needs to drink water.
I'm pretty sure his diet is ridiculous, but who am I to tell him what to do? But if he were healthy and not on the football field, I think the 49ers would have a different result. I think the San Francisco 49ers would still be competing for an NFC championship, an NFC title. Not this year. This is a part of the game. People get hurt. And sometimes it's not going to be your year.
Sometimes you won't get the opportunity. And so, yeah, the fork is done. You could put a fork in them. They're cooked.
And sorry for the poor food reference, but the 49ers ain't got nothing left to play for. They're not going to say that because they're the ones out there putting it on the line. They're the ones out there with the blood, the sweat, the tears.
Me, I'm just a guy in a radio booth just calling a spade a spade and telling you what I see. They're done. Their best player on offense is hurt. And he's been hurt in different points in his career. This man has been hurt at times with the Carolina Panthers. They gave him that big old contract, that big old deal, and then he got hurt. This is what's going to happen when you're running back.
And this is kind of crazy. George Kittle, who, by the way, had one catch yesterday for seven yards. Please believe me, I know I've been looking for more catches from this guy. George Kittle, he says, no, no, no, we don't care about no injuries. It's the next man up. Here's a football cliche. It's football like people go down and we've had seasons where plenty of people have gone down and you need someone to step up.
And that's what we need. We need continually need guys to step up. And whether it's, you know, starters and players that we have that are already doing that or new guys who are getting into the rotation, you were in the NFL for a reason. Like all these guys have belonged in the NFL and they have their playmaking abilities and that's on all of us.
Yeah, but everybody has different levels of ability. There's only one Christian McCaffrey, the same way that there's only one George Kittle. And even when a Christian McCaffrey goes down, he has a serviceable backup and a Jordan Mason who can pick up the slack. Well, now both of them are gone. And so what are we supposed to do now? I mean, damn it, Brock Purdy missed the game recently. The 49ers are done. I'm sorry. When you take a look at what we have here in the NFC, it's very clear.
It's very straightforward right now. It is the Philadelphia Eagles who took care of another bird yesterday, the Ravens. And then we have the Lions, who we all saw on Thursday, almost reverted back to the old Lions, but they still won. They didn't choke at the end. You can also thank the Chicago Bears, but the 49ers are not in that grouping right now. The 49ers got to basically, I don't want to say pack it up and go home. Don't quit. But there's no championship here.
I'm sorry. Championship caliber roster? Yes. It doesn't matter if the guys aren't healthy enough to go out there and play. It doesn't matter if your best players are on injured reserve.
It doesn't matter when you're up against it. And let me tell you something, even if there should be a miracle for this squad, for the 49ers, they're not Super Bowl contenders. It's not happening. Next up, they got the Bears.
That'd be interesting. They got the Rams. They're in Miami. They have Detroit. That would have been nice. That would have been an NFC championship preview.
You could throw that out the window. And then they're in Arizona. One of the more up and down teams, just a wild card. You never know what you're going to get with the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers are done. And the Buffalo Bills, I guess they can celebrate. They got a 10 and 2 record. We might as well write the AFC conference championship. Can we plug in the Bills? Put the Chiefs in there.
Can we see if anybody else is going to be eligible or rock the apple card? Don't look like it's going to be the Ravens right now. And let me tell you something. The Bills are so used to this being good. Going to the postseason, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs, even the team that won yesterday, Sean McDermott.
He's like, man, we want a division. But so damn what? Being 50 years old, 20 plus years in this league, you know, I've learned to try and enjoy the moments. And this is a moment. Right. And then after that, tomorrow, move forward. And turn the page because, as you know, as we talk about a lot, it's a week to week league. And you've got to bring your A game.
And for us, it's continuing to develop and grow in the areas we need to develop and grow in and take those necessary steps. Oh my. Hickey, did his dog die or did he just win the division? Crazy being the one. If you're a Bills fan, you've won five in a row now, that's the message you want to hear.
You've been there, done that. The goal is to win a Super Bowl. Obviously, you want to be happy, celebrate. But the focus still should be on getting past the Chiefs, getting to the Super Bowl, winning it.
Division, nice. But I like that his eyes are on the big prize, the real prize. OK, well, let's see what his quarterback had to say. Hey, Josh Allen, how does it feel about winning the division? Because everybody else sucks.
This one feels a little bit different. You know, this early in the season, we still got five games left. So the cool thing about it, like you get to go out there, we get to go out there and we get to play free. Right.
There's really no repercussions for for what we're doing. But at the same time, we're chasing the one seed. We understand that.
We know that. And we got to keep getting better each and every week. So but it's it's going to be fun. I mean, to go out there and play free and play relaxed and play loose.
I think that's that could be a dangerous team. OK. All right. Like this is what we want. Now, when people call up for Hickey's point, what he just said, people call up. Somebody called a month ago, two months ago, Josh Allen for MVP. And how come nobody's talking about the Buffalo Bills and more people? Man, because we do not care.
To borrow a line from Mike Tom, we do not care. Let me know when the Buffalo Bills are kicking some ass in the postseason. Let me know when the Buffalo Bills are not getting eliminated by some guy named Patrick Mahomes.
Let me know when they're rolling this. What they're doing right now is to be expected. This is what everybody expects from the Buffalo Bills. How many years have we gone on about Josh Allen, MVP candidate, Buffalo Bills, Super Bowl champs? Well, damn it.
It comes a point in time where it's just like, OK, we get it. You're good. Enough talking. They've had to reset their defense. God bless Milano.
He came back. This is all great. This is all good. What are you doing in January?
As simple as that. Congratulations to the Buffalo Bills for continuing to move forward toward towards excellence in the forty niners. I'm sorry.
I'm really, really sorry. Better luck next year. Christian McCaffrey is going to have a whole lot of time to rest between now and next September. And Sean McDermott, cheer up. Hopefully he's having a drink somewhere.
OK. And good for him. The J.R. sport show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We have so much to get into. I told you Jerry Palm is going to join us to talk some college football, college football, playoff implications and conference championship games.
He's coming up next hour. I mentioned the Ravens. They looking too good. I'm not feeling no like good about the Baltimore Ravens, especially the kicker.
You know, I don't kick a football professionally, but then me and Tucker are in the same space right now. We have so much to get into. Kirk Cousins, people here in Georgia want to give that guy the boot to the bench.
They're ready for panics. Aaron Rodgers stinks, too. What else is new? I told you we got the Broncos Monday Night Football as they host the Browns. There's a lot to discuss. A matter of fact, when we come back on the other side of the break, we just heard a miserable coach and Sean McDermott, despite winning because nobody cares what he does in the regular season, win a bunch of games and win in the big one. This past weekend, we legitimately had some miserable coaches. OK, we had a coach, man, people looking at Ryan Day and they're saying he should be fired.
Oh, yeah, he was miserable. We're going to talk about some of these upsets and these disappointments, whether you were Miami or whether you were the Ohio State University. There was a lot that went on over the weekend.
We're going to talk about some of these miserable coaches on the other side of the break. And there's a lot of fighting, too. If you weren't fighting at the Thanksgiving table, you just had to wait until Saturday. Everybody was fighting in rivalry week. College football players hate each other's guts.
Not me. I love you. It's the J.R. Sportbree show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network.
We'll get to that on the other side. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbree. It is the J.R. Sportbree show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Gave you the update that Christian McCaffrey done for the season. PCL sprain in his knee. Jordan Mason, his backup also going on injury reserve, likely done for the season.
This man has a high ankle sprain. If the two running backs are done, the 49ers are done as well. Sorry about that. OK, anyway, this past weekend, what a weekend it was in college football. Oh, my goodness. I sat down and watched some of these games. Syracuse knocking off Miami. I had to go, whoa, what the hell is going on here? Kyle McCord. He's over here like, hey, Ohio State, I actually could have helped you, but you didn't want me.
Wild stuff. Ohio State losing to Michigan like this wasn't supposed to happen. Harbaugh is gone and national championship was won last season. Like Ohio State was supposed to wipe the floor with Michigan.
A matter of fact, they were 21 point favorites. And they lose 13 to 10. The Ohio State University is not going to the Big Ten title game.
That'll be Penn State and now Oregon. Michigan won with that field goal late. Ohio State couldn't get in the game or forget get in the game. They couldn't win the game. This was a wild one, man. And after the game, it was even more wild. People are talking about the fight. People see Michigan trying to plant the flag.
People are getting pepper sprayed. Ryan Day is standing around looking like he lost his dog. And then people are saying that Ryan needs to get fired. It's crazy. New athletic director had to come out and say, no, we're not firing the guy. This is wild, wild stuff. Ryan Day now has a one in three record against Michigan.
This was the one he was supposed to win. And it's going to be real interesting. Yeah, they're still going to be in the college football playoff.
It's going to be real interesting to see how far Ohio State falls when it comes to the rankings. In the fight, the fight got both teams fined one hundred thousand dollars. Hickey, I still cannot believe.
Well, I can't believe it. The players were gasping for air because they were getting pepper sprayed. I was like, well, what is this, a football game?
I thought we were in Europe for a minute. What was that about? That was crazy.
Yeah. A lot of officers in the mix, like you said, just putting out pepper spray, which I've never seen. You see it was a lot of, you know, midfield skirmishes. And Ohio Stadium was not the only place we saw on Saturday where this kind of flag planting leading into a brawl happened.
It's the only one, though, where the actual was pepper spray. It was a crazy, crazy scene, which I think also highlights and underscores the frustration from Ohio State players of not getting over the hump and those seniors going out winless against Michigan. You hold on, Hickey, you were talking about more of these fights.
I know you. Did you see the Arizona mascots fighting each other like the mascots were fighting to like everybody fighting? Now, I think I have to double check. But if it's at least the same video that we're looking at, I think it's old.
The Sun Devil clock and the Sun. Yes, I think that is from a few years ago. Oh, boo. I know. But I got to double check.
Maybe I missed it, but I believe that was from a few years still. I mean, either way, you get mascots fighting that is, I mean, I'll sign me up for that all day every day. They were fighting. Why don't we have real mascot fights? What is that like?
I mean, that's it's not good, but I'd sign up. Do we have it in a video game at least? I get it. We can't have real mascots fighting out here, but let's put it in a video game. I don't know if they brought back the mascot mode in college football, but that used to be a thing. At least we can maybe not fight, but hit each other with the mascots and like the Oregon Duck or the Leprechaun.
For as dignified of a world that we live in today, why don't we have it? Well, NFL doesn't want NFL blitz. I get it. We don't need our guys getting concussed. Unfortunately, we had one yesterday get concussed in terrible fashion of that being Trevor Lawrence.
We'll get into that. But yeah, there was a lot of fights and ass whooping. It's nothing bigger than the one we saw will between Ohio State, Michigan, pepper spray.
It was just wild as hell. Carl L. Mullins, who went out there for Michigan rush for about one hundred and sixteen yards, also had a touchdown. He was on Fox right after the game. And he said, listen, man, Ohio State, them folks need to just learn how to lose for such a great game. You hate to see stuff like that after the game. You know, this is bad for the sport, bad for college football.
But at the end of the day, you know, some people got it. They got to learn how to lose, man. You can't can't be fighting and stuff just because he lost the game. You know, all that fighting.
We had 60 minutes. We have four quarters to do all that fighting. And now people want to talk and fight.
That's wrong. You know, this is bad for the game. Classless, in my opinion.
You know, and people people got to be better. What did the loser have to feel about? Ryan Day said this was the most painful thing that he's recently had happen to him in his life. Ryan Day, this is what he had to say about his players just just fighting, scrapping after the game. Yeah, I don't know all the details of it, but I know that, you know, these guys are looking to put a flag on our field and our guys weren't going to let that happen. So, you know, this is this is our field. And certainly, you know, we're embarrassed with the fact that we lost the game.
But, you know, there's some prideful guys in this team that we're just going to let that happen. There's a guy in the NFL who knows a lot about this is a guy who did this at the college level. He got a lot of heat for it.
I mean, he was imitating an Italian American football player last week. It's Baker Mayfield. Hickey, everybody's up for for criticism when it comes to Baker, right? That's true. Everyone always wants to, you know, or he, I guess, does not spare anyone, which I think is, you know, that's fair.
Good for Baker. OK. All right. What if what if one of the players says something about him and his dad? Is that fair game, too? Is that not fair game? No, that's fair. Fair game. I mean, I wouldn't say Baker's taking it as personal to that level.
Oh, OK. But if you put yourself out there right, you have to be at least willing to accept the pushback and people taking jabs at yourself. So, well, yeah, the media knew to ask Baker. About all the action, all the fights, all the flag flancing in college, because Baker did it when he was at Oklahoma. This is what Baker Mayfield had to say about flag planting like this is a big thing. You can't do this at college. Otherwise, you get your ass whooped. Oh, you Texas does it every time they play. It's not anything special.
You take your L and you move on. Yeah, I'll leave it at that. Baker, would it be a mistake for the NCAA to have all that? College football is meant to have rivalries.
It's like the Big 12 banning the Hornstown signal. Just let the boys play. Yeah, but that's that's part of the problem.
They were playing. But then afterwards, they kind of want to rub it in. And I'm fine with I don't care.
I'm fine. But you got to know that this is going to be going to be instances like what we saw on Saturday. People are going to beef. They're going to get upset.
You can't roll into somebody's house and just say, hey, I took over your house. By the way, Hickey, all that where Kirk Cousins walk into your trap and take over the trap. All that stuff is done now, isn't it? With Kirk, you're saying? At least for him? Yes. He's not walking anyone's trap, taking that over. No, you're not taking over nobody's trap house. Oh, man. They want to sit him down.
Can't put flat. Hickey, I like it. I like it. But there's always going to be a fight like so. They should stop it. No, they should just tell the players, just like, don't do it.
I think what is worse is the horns down. The fact that people are worried about that, like they worrying about the silliest things. But taking something physical and run in the midfield and planning it, you know, there's going to be a beef. You know, there's going to be a fight. So just tell the players not to do it. And if they do it, they'll be punished. You know, wave your own flag on the sideline, wave it out the building.
I think that's enough. We don't have to incite fights. Or tell the losers to act better. Win the game. Oh, like if you're an Ohio State fan, if you or if you're actually me, if you're in Ohio State player, if you're an Arizona player, whoever had, you know, wherever it happened across college football on Saturday, how like it's to me such a loser move to go and try. OK, you lost the game and now we're going to rip your flag down and we're going to try to fight you because you're trying to disrespect us. They beat you. You lost at home. They won fair and square. You, to me, don't have a right now to try to start a fight or tear the flag down. If a team wants to put their flag at the 50 yard line because they just won on the road, they've ever right to. They won the game.
Somebody's going to rip the but you don't like to go to spoils. I agree with you. But wouldn't you say that either way? Somebody, somebody you think about a staff, you think about players, you got 100 people on the other sideline. Somebody's going to try to rip the flag down.
That's just the fact. Like who's going to just say, hey, we're just going to leave, you know, Michigan's flag just planted in the middle of the 50. Nobody's going to do that.
Like we can talk about what would be nice. Should we really expect the players just to walk off after the game? Like, no, somebody's going to start some beef. Everybody's going to walk away.
They should. Also, the flag's not it's a lot of these fields are turf. You plant the flag. It falls down right away. It's not sitting at midfield all day.
You plan it for two seconds. The flag falls. Everyone walks off the field. Like to see Ohio State players like it's almost like, oh, we lost the game, but we won. You know, we won the battle because we didn't allow them to plant the flag on our field.
What do you what are you talking about? They got the game. They got pepper spray, pepper spray. Nobody won at the end. Those guys were coughing up and hacking lungs. That's true.
Those who got pepper spray dry win Michigan or Ohio State. You are the big loser there. That's tough. Yeah. You know, I've been out there. They gave me shout outs to the wonderful people in Columbus. You just just seeing the tour. I haven't attended one of the games yet.
But getting the tour and all of this stuff, you really get an understanding of how deep the rivalry runs. So I am not shocked and surprised that after the loss, they were just like, ah, that that's not happening here. And so we had a bunch of miserable coaches. Let's listen to Sharon Moore. He was on the winning side. Hey, what were your thoughts on your guys with the flag and a fight?
Tell us, Sharon. It was emotions on both sides. And our guys, I did see they had the flag and guys were waving around and their guys charged us.
So I was mostly on both sides. It can't happen. So, you know, rivalry games get heated, especially this one. It's the biggest one in the country. So we got we got to handle that better. No, it's everybody's fault. It's everybody. Everybody's screwing up both sides. Yep. There's both sides.
I've heard that one before. Hey, Michigan, they'll get ready for some no nothing bowl game in the Ohio State University. Well, they move forward and they see how far they fall in the playoff. Again, I know you're happy about this, right? Little Penn State, Oregon action. You excited? Oh, I am. Now, I think Oregon could what Penn State's but but I'm excited to have the opportunity to see how, you know, a real test here for the first time in a month.
See how it looks. I'm excited for it. Well, you're not the only one happy. I watched this game, too, and I had to go, what the hell am I looking at? Syracuse went out there and beat Miami. A former Ohio State quarterback helped lead the way.
Kyle McCord with three touchdowns, almost 400 yards passing. So they certainly they being Ohio State could have used him. And it's pretty hilarious because Miami. Well, we've seen this their defense.
It stinks. OK, it's Syracuse came back from being down 21 to nothing. Now we got an ACC title game between Clemson and SMU. And it's hilarious because Miami, they're about to fall to I'm going to ask Jerry Palm about this next hour. Hilarious Fran Brown, the man who says he only takes a shower after a victory. He doesn't deserve a shower after a loss. He was on ESPN and he told Dabo Sweeney, hey, you need to thank us. Well, it's a championship game. We worked our butts off for it.
That was short a few times. And then we got the opportunity to do this. Hey, Dabo Sweeney, congrats. I got you in, baby.
Hey, guess what? I'm getting washed. Oh, man, Hickey, he's never going to hear the end of that ever in his life. He's going to hear about that forever. That's also, Larry says, like a sideline reporter putting all this prep and I want to ask the best questions.
And one of the best questions you can ask in that moment is, are you going to take a shower after the game? He won. He deserves soap. OK, when he loses, he doesn't deserve soap. What does he do?
Just just stand under the water? No, I don't think even I don't think he even steps in. I think he just goes to bed all sweaty and disgusting and gross. He said his wife doesn't even live in the bed.
Well, I don't don't blame her. Yeah, that's there's certain things just keep keep to yourself, man. I don't need the fact that came out of his mouth when I lose. I don't even deserve soap. What you're taking things a little too far, man. Just go go wash your ass. It's not that not that difficult. It's the J.R. sport show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network, eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.
That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. We don't expect violence after games. But yesterday on the NFL side and I mentioned this with Trevor Lawrence and speaking of Clemson, we did see some violence on the field yesterday and Trevor Lawrence had to go into concussion protocol.
And we all know what we're going to see him again. We're going to talk about that on the other side of the break. It's the J.R. sport show on the Infinity Sports Network. You are listening to the J.R. sport brief.
It is the J.R. sport show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You know, right before we went to break, unfortunately, we talked about some of the the unfortunate incidents that we had on the college football field postgame. So too many fights just all over the country. People hate each other's guts. Rivalry week. That's just what it is.
It's what it is. Yesterday, we got back to some NFL action and they know beef between these two teams, because typically, historically, it's not like they've they've been good for a long time. They're not both playing the AFC South talking about the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans. Now, good for the Texans, able to turn things around. Yesterday, they beat Jacksonville 23 to 20. Not necessarily what you would want to see as you take on one of the NFL's worst teams. The Jags now fall to two and 10 on the season.
Houston is eight and five. The big deal in this game is that Trevor Lawrence was just knocked unconscious in the second quarter of the game. Aziz Al-Shair went to tackle Trevor Lawrence while he was already sliding defenseless. His head was basically shoulders. Head was the target. And he dove in to tackle him when it was pretty much done.
And of course, there was a lot of pushing and shoving and a little bit of a skirmish there as Trevor Lawrence laid out on the turf, on the grass with his hands up, his fists balled up. He was knocked out and thank God he was able to tweet and send a message late last night. He's like, listen, folks, I'm good. I'm great.
Aziz Al-Shair. He said, I didn't do it on purpose. He says, I'm not a dirty player. And he basically told everybody, hey, spare me your racist messages, your Islamophobic messages. Just relax.
People who know me know me. And so when it comes to Trevor Lawrence, first of all, this man has had a tough season. He's missed games with that shoulder injury, which is probably going to require surgery.
This man has now been concussed. We don't know what his status is going to be moving forward. Let's also keep in mind the Jacksonville Jaguars have basically committed two hundred and seventy five million dollars to Trevor Lawrence. And so they just aren't thinking about this man and what he could do for them the rest of this season. This season is done.
You might as well go ahead and shut him down. And so let's take a listen, because Doug Peterson, he was asked, are you going to think about putting away trouble for the entire season? Listen to what Doug Peterson said. I mean, it's 30 minutes after the game. So I haven't I haven't thought about that.
Well, let me tell you, they're going to have to think about that. Let me also be very clear. Doug Peterson is not going to be around.
He's not. There's five games left in the season. In Jacksonville, Jaguars, you got Shaad Khan, the owner, who basically said this is the best roster that we have ever constructed here. This is the best team we've ever had for the Jacksonville Jaguars. OK, some wild words for a team that basically right out of the gate of their history went to an AFC Championship game.
But he said this is the best roster. And Doug Peterson has looked lost here. The team has looked lost.
Five straight losses for Jacksonville. And so Doug Peterson, he may not even be the one who has any type of say so. We may just have to watch Mac Jones the rest of the way.
And we should. There is no reason with a busted shoulder now being concussed in two hundred and seventy five million reasons as to why Trevor Lawrence should not be back on the field. This should be Mac Jones time. Let's see what Mac Jones can do the rest of the way. This guy wanted an audition as a backup. Let's see what he could do.
Not that I expect him to grab a starting spot on another team next year, but he's done. Unfortunately, it came down to a concussion. And by the way, Aziz Shaheer, his own coach, D'Amico Ryans, who, by the way, played defense in the NFL at a very high level.
He says he ain't do it on purpose. You stand behind Aziz and everything, you know, that came from that, of course, he unfortunately hit on the quarterback. But it's also it's twofold. Right. I mean, a lot of the quarterbacks in this day and age, they try to take advantage of the rule where they slide late and they try to get an extra yard. And now you're a defender. A lot of onus is on the defender.
Right. Whether it's on the sideline or where it's on the quarterback, you don't know what a guy is thinking. You don't know if a guy stand up and he's continuing to run.
You don't know. And then you get a late slide and you're you know, you hit the guy. Unfortunately, that Trevor got hurt. We want to hope Trevor is OK, but it's also if we're sliding, we have to get down. If we're getting out of bounds, we get out of bounds. And that rule is there to protect the quarterbacks and want our quarterbacks to be safe in the league. So we just have to be safe and we're sliding.
Make sure we're keeping our heads down. Listen, he is going to get a suspension, as he should, because he broke a rule and he hit this man and knocked him silly. I think we also have to keep in mind this is still football. It's going to happen like people are going to get hurt. Do we want to see head injuries?
Hell, no. I don't want to see no guy laid out unconscious on the floor. I mean, we had to spend a lot of time earlier this year thinking about what happens with what to a tongue of Aloha and is his own football life and whether or not it needs to continue on. Nobody wants to see anybody knock silly.
And that's why even reading the statement from Aziz al-Sha'ir is he said as much as I. Oh, my God. Hickey, what am I looking at? Hickey, do you see do you see the pregame on ESPN? Was that a real animal that Jason Kelsey had in his arms? It looked like it. Was that a monkey? I think so.
I don't know. Oh, my God. I feel like he was holding a furry animal and kissing it. That he's pretty. Hickey, this is why I don't keep the sound on.
Maybe I should. I can't do it here at work on air. Right. But this was that was very odd.
I'm going to look that up in the break. Hickey, also, I want I want to get your thoughts on the other side as well. You know, this guy wasn't trying to end Trevor Lawrence. Not not not not at all. You know what? We're going to take a break. We come back.
We'll talk more about Trevor Lawrence getting laid out. I do want to talk about the Eagles. I know we talked about the 49ers being cooked for the year. The Eagles, I think they have certainly taken their spot. The Ravens aren't looking good. And then we're going to have Jerry Palm joining us as well. And we got a lot to do. You're locked in as the J.R. sport. We show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network.
