It is the JR Sportbreeze show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Happy Wednesday to you. It's hump day. I'm here to help you get over the hump.
Maybe you had a hump or two. Good for you. Either way, I'm going to be here with you for the next four hours. This is when the show gets started.
Every single weekday. 6pm Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you so much to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America on the free Audacy app.
A U D A C Y. Thank you to everybody listening on their local Infinity Sports Network affiliate. People on Sirius XM. Channel 158. People tuned in on a smart speaker.
All you got to do is ask that speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. Man, what a show we got today. What a lot. We got a lot of things to do.
Thank you so much to our super producer and host Ryan Hickey holding down for us in New York City. Obviously the Yankees are still alive unless you've been missing in action over the past 24 hours. Get into the Yankees. A matter of fact, Johnny Damon, former New York Yankee, former Red Sox, multiple time World Series champion Johnny Damon is going to join us next hour to talk about these these New York Yankees and how you bounce back from a 3-0 deficit. He's familiar. Did it with the Red Sox against the Yankees?
How about this? In 20 minutes from now, we're going to talk some football. Sean Merriman lights out.
Remember the lights out dance used to hit him in dance. OK, Sean Merriman is going to join us in 20 minutes, lit it up for the bolts, lit it up for the bills. And he's bringing something pretty cool to Buffalo. I'm going to ask him about that, that Anthony Richardson guy, too. We'll get into him. Anthony Richardson letting everybody know that.
Yeah, I made a mistake. Little, little too late. Joe Flacco has now taken your job, brother.
Little, little, little too late. And then later on in the show, we're going to have a chat with Kenny the Jetsmith. The NBA season is already underway. Talk to Kenny about some other lazy players. I don't know, like Joel Embiid. Get his thoughts on Bronny and LeBron. And I know Kenny is from New York. I want to ask Kenny about those New York Yankee fans who were banned from Yankee Stadium last night for interfering with Mookie Betts. And then Kenny's doing something cool for New York City as well. He's working with the Harlem Globetrotters.
I just saw the Globetrotters. It's a lot of fun, fun stuff. So, yeah, we got a packed show. And of course, it's Wednesday. I'm bringing you a new top six list.
It's what I do every single Wednesday. You can expect it in about two hours from now as we take a look at six of the most disappointing quarterbacks in the NFL so far this season. Pretty bad.
Pretty sad. You know who's going to be number one? Well, we'll get into that.
The top of the hour or two hours from now, I should say. If you want to communicate with me, you got a phone, you can do so. The phone number here is 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. You can find me online. I am everywhere on the Internet.
I am at JR Sport Brief. Ryan Hickey, how are you? I'm good. No one tried to accost me coming to work today.
So, so far, so good. For money or to vote? Neither. I didn't have a baseball in my hand. So, you know, Mookie Betts was just doing his job yesterday and was accosted in New York City. So you never know. You know, you got to walk the streets, kind of look around, make sure no one trying to attack you out of nowhere and prevent you from doing your job.
How about that? Especially visitors. Like, I wouldn't consider Mookie Betts a tourist. He has to pay taxes for playing in the Bronx, New York. This guy gets taxed every place that he plays.
But he's a visitor, right? He has to play in New York and they tried to rip the baseball out of this man's hands. We saw what happened last night, early and then also late. The Yankees ended up beating the Dodgers to stay alive in the World Series. They beat them 11-4. Volpe got them going with that big grand slam in the third inning. I mean, even Aaron Judge got in on the action, not a home run. He's now 2 for 15 here in the World Series. But they had a five run eighth inning and Judge drove in a run. But all most folks talked about after the game, even though the Yankees won, they're still alive. Gary Cole is on the mound tonight against Flaherty, is the fact that Mookie Betts went up into the stands. Not even really. Jumped up to catch a ball that was landed in the stands.
And then two numbskulls tried to rip the ball out of his hands. It's Bush League. It's garbage. It's nonsense.
You've got to be a drunk, you know, you know what to go ahead and do so. And so both of these fans have been, excuse me, they've been banned from the game tonight. Can't walk in.
Can't see it. This is the final game of anything at Yankee Stadium this year. If the Yankees are going to have a miraculous comeback in the World Series, be the first to do it in the World Series. They're going to have to do it in Los Angeles, where I'm sure the fans will be much nicer to Aaron Judge if he were to jump into the stands or try to snag a ball.
Maybe and probably. Bottom line is we don't need to see this in sports. There's a reason why these guys have been banned because we don't need a malice at the palace. We don't need a beat down in the Bronx. We don't need a prequel. We don't need a sequel. We don't need part due or two.
We don't need that. It's just nutty. These guys are probably drinking from the game started at eight o'clock a little after eight. These guys probably drinking since three or four.
What you grabbing on another man for? Forget, forget the baseball game. Mookie Betts is well within his right to want to pummel those guys with the bats if he wanted to.
But he's a gentleman. A matter of fact, let's go back. We'll hear from Mookie Betts in a second. Joe Davis and John Smoltz, who will explain to you the rotation of a curve ball in 20 minutes. These two were on Fox.
Listen to this line. Tried right by Torres. Betts in the corner.
Does he have room? Fights with the fan. And they're going to say that it's an out.
And fan interference. So an out. One gone in this first. It's the second time that Gleyber Torres has hit a ball that has ended up in fan interference in this series.
He had the home run turn into a double back at Dodger Stadium. And yeah, Betts has that ball in his glove and this fan literally tries to take his glove off. Fries the ball out of there. A for effort. Nah, no A for effort.
D for dumbass. You don't do that. You don't grab.
I get it. It's baseball. It's going to be contact. There's going to be incidental contact. Somebody's going to try to grab a ball out of the stands.
Fans try to naturally grab a ball that falls their way. But to naturally say, I'm going to rip it out of this guy's hands. He's a jerk. This guy's probably eating, I don't know, peanut butter jelly sandwiches with mayonnaise on top. This guy's doing weird stuff. He doesn't have common sense. And the other knucklehead who grabbed Mookie Betts wrist. Stop. Ain't no sense in doing this. Hickey, if you were just, and I get it a little different. If you were on the bus or the train or subway and somebody just grabbed your wrist because of some incidental contact, you'd be like, what the hell are you doing right now?
There will definitely be a punch back. Yeah. You can't, you don't do this. LeBron James can't die for a ball in the stands and you just try to, you know, rip the ball out of LeBron. Hey, it was awful LeBron.
No, you can't do that. This is, you got to have some type of dignity to respect what the athletes are doing out there. It's not your backyard. It's not the high school game, not even a high school game. This ain't your neighborhood friendly game in the backyard. This ain't, ain't the game that you played after school with your friends. This is the world series.
And we've seen plenty of people accidentally lunge for a ball when they shouldn't have. Hi Steve Bartman. Somebody called last night, Jeffrey Mayer. And I'm like, what the hell are you doing? Somebody called last night, Jeffrey Mayer. And I'm like, Hey, I was a 12 year old child. This was a grown ass man who needs to know and do better.
But you know what? I give respect to Mookie Betts. Cause I know how he really feels. I know how he really feels, but he's not going to come out and publicly say it. He's not going to make this a larger issue. He is not a dummy.
Mookie Betts was just like, we lost. I don't need to worry about that. Listen to this man.
It's a genius. What happened with that fan? That follow up? It's irrelevant. We lost. That doesn't matter.
How is that man feeling? Is it kind of like from our perspective that your wrist kind of went a little bit back? No, I didn't even know he grabbed my hand. So that was perfectly fine.
Is that about as aggressive as you've seen fans in all your time in the game? When it comes to the person in play, it doesn't matter. We lost.
It's irrelevant. I'm fine. He's fine. Everything's cool.
We lost the game. And that's, that's what I'm kind of focused on. We got to turn the page and get ready for tomorrow. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you. I mean, just this damn week, and we're going to get into Jamison Williams. He's in trouble again with the lion. There's just so much going on. We have had so many athletes this week, not being able to put their phone down. You know what I'm going to, I'm going to ask, I'm going to ask Sean Merriman about this next break. You know, Trayvon Diggs, this man lost the game, was criticized by a reporter on Twitter or X, whatever the hell you call it. Trayvon Diggs immediately finishes the game, goes and checks his phone, sees the tweet, walks right back out of the locker room, doesn't even take his pads off and confronts the reporter.
What, why, why do you care? You just do your job. Like you should be worrying about the L not what somebody said about you on X or Twitter, like do better. Come on. And then Michael Parsons, you know, he was criticizing you. And I think rightfully so, even though Mikey can't play right now, but he's sitting around doing a podcast like everybody else.
He's saying that Anthony Richardson needs media training. Hey, tell a lie. Don't tell people you got tired. Just tell a lie.
Come on. And here we have a perfect example of someone who just lost can stand around and make an excuse if he wants to. Not that that impacted the overall game. It did not, but it was ridiculous. You don't have fan interaction like that.
You don't. It happens every now and then, but not like that. Mookie Betts could have went off about, Oh, these Yankee fans are disrespectful. Mookie Betts could have went on about how that guy could have broke my wrist if he held on or twisted it the wrong way. Mookie Betts could have said, yeah, those two guys were jerks, but it had no impact on the game. Mookie Betts said, it's irrelevant what happened.
We lost. That's what a professional does. That's what somebody who stands up does. Not looking to push blame. Look at what the hell you doing and blame yourself.
What can you control? Not what some drunk nut in a Yankee hat decides to do. And ironically, because who knows, maybe drunk nut, yes or no. One of the biggest in the world of professional sports, quite professional on Fox. So give him credit is Rob Gronkowski.
And what the hell does Rob Gronkowski have to do with any of this? Well, he was on the Up and Adam show and he says he knows the numbskull. What a shot. That guy right there grabbing Mookie Betts glove was my friend in college. He was on the ice hockey team, the club, Arizona Wildcats team, ice hockey team. And let me tell you the whole hockey team, they were absolute maniacs. They were undescribable. Just how wild animals.
Yes. How wild these guys were him doing that represents him very well. I mean, he, he is all in for his teams. He is all in for the Yankees. I remember him talking about the Yankees all the time, how he loves them so much. And that describes him perfectly. Just doing whatever it takes to help his team out. But he's a beauty. He is a beauty.
I just want to say congratulations for shining when your moment came. Yeah. Well, we know he's a goofball, so you don't take that guy too seriously. But you know, we got a lot of gullible ass people out here. We got a lot of gullible ass people.
I don't follow a goofball. Don't, don't do that. It's, it's real simple. And I think this is a simple part of, of humanity. And I know different strokes for different folks and different cultures, different things, whatever the hell it is. You know, there's one thing I think we all learn when you're a kid. I think you learn it.
I hopefully you learn it when you're a kid. Keep your hands to yourself. That's it.
That's it. Everybody fans start to feel real bold when there's a barrier there. Keep your hands to yourself. But those two idiots decide to grab a, a fan in the stands.
No, not randomly. We see people fight over home run balls and foul balls and this and that. Yeah.
Okay, fine. Keep your hands to yourself. There is no, no leeway, no way around that. Respect people's personal space. When you got 50,000 people in a stadium, in an arena, whatever the hell it is, and you got nine players, 10 players, 18 players, 20 players on the field and the umpire, respect them as simple as that.
Respect people's space. If I were the Yankees, I'd tell them to numskulls to never come back. Forget giving them money back. They got a refund. I'd keep their money. And I, I don't know, I'd give it to Mookie Betts, kid or his cat or his dog.
Not that he needs it. Those guys just watch from television like everybody else. Idiots. It's the JR sport reshow here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. We got a lot to do in five minutes. We're going to have a chat with Sean Merriman, Mr.
Lights out, Mr. Knock out a quarterback, former pro bowler, all pro this defensive rookie of the year. We're going to talk some NFL. I'm going to ask him about Anthony Richardson. I'm going to ask him about Mr. Diggs being mad at a reporter. And then of course, we're going to talk some chargers. We're going to, I'm going to ask about the Jets. I'm going to ask him about the Buffalo Bills. He has something cool coming up in Buffalo this weekend as the Bills take on the Dolphins. Sean Merriman joining us in the next break. Johnny Damon from the New York Yankees and Red Sox is joining us next hour.
Kenny the Jet Smith from inside the NBA on TNT, two time champ. He's joining us later in the show. And of course I'm giving you a new top six list. We're going to take a look at some of the most disappointing quarterbacks in the NFL this season. We're just getting started. Congratulations and happy Wednesday.
It's time to get over the hump. It's the JR sport brief show on the infinity sports network. Sean Merriman next. You're listening to the JR sport brief. It's the JR sport brief show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. The NFL season is underway. The world series is underway. Basketball is underway.
Everything is underway. But we're at about the midway point through the NFL season. And we're being joined right now by an NFL legend. Used to rock heads for the Chargers. Used to get him for the Bills. He's working on some cool concepts.
Lights out TV. You might know the man. He goes by the name of Lights Out.
It's Sean Merriman. Sean, how you doing, man? I'm doing well, man. How are you?
I'm excellent. Thank you for taking the time to join us. I want to get into everything you got going on with Lights Out TV, the Ultimate Fan Zone. We're going to get into that. I got to ask you this.
People been talking about it for days. We had an NFL quarterback who said he was tied and now he's been benched. Yeah. What are you?
You used to chase quarterbacks for a living. What are your thoughts on Richardson getting the seat and flock or being elevated? Yeah, I think me personally, man, I hope this doesn't linger for him over his head for his career because he's young and you're when you're young as he is and talented. He is. He's talented. You got to learn how to be a leader, right?
You just have to. You got too many eyeballs on you like you're the face of the franchise. So the signal that you send is going to resonate throughout the locker room. And that's why they had to send a message, right? Because that was a locker room call.
That was a, you know, guys going to the coach and saying, hey, you know, we've seen what happened. We don't appreciate it. You tapped out. We are tired.
We all get tired, right? You're not a running back. You're not a wide receiver and come out for a couple of plays. You're the starting quarterback of a franchise. And if you're not in shape, if you're not in shape, that's on you, right? I know you just came off of the injury, but look, you're the leader of the franchise.
And they had to send a message. I just hope for his sake, it doesn't linger on and he get known for that, for that situation. And he's that type of guy. He's that type of player because he's young man.
He has a lot to learn. Former Terrapin, Maryland, former NFL legend, Sean Merriman here with us. When you think about how quarterbacks have changed in the league right now, we get a lot of young guys come in and have immediate success. You see Jayden Daniels having success. We see Bryce Young not having a success. What has changed since you've been out of the game when it comes to the QB position?
Development. We've heard that over and over again. And I'll give a prime example, man. When I came in, Drew Brees was actually the starter in 2005 and Phillip was his backup. Now, Phillip didn't get on the field until Drew got hurt. But, you know, Phillip was a first round draft pick backing up and gave him time to develop. I'm totally against these franchises and organizations throwing young guys on the field and not ready. And sometimes throwing a guy on the field, he's not ready on a bad team, right? So if this is your guy for seven, 10 plus years going forward, why put him in position to get hurt? And it happened Joe Barrow. Joe Barrow, when he first came in, people don't realize when he got hurt, I mean, he was running for his life. He was running for his life. He had no offensive line and he was running for his life.
Ultimately, it got him hurt. And so I don't understand the point as an investment, right? And all these guys, this was so crazy about it is that they're all about the money.
They're all about, you know, bringing in revenue, all about forecasting and planning and growing for years to come. That's what the NFL has always been known for. So if your quarterback is your future investment, why put him in that situation to be on the field? He's not ready.
Or if he is ready, make sure he has pieces around him that's going to support him to go out there and play well. And former defensive rookie of the year, Sean Merriman is here with us. On the other end of the scope, we talked about Flacco being elevated in place of Richardson.
We have another 40 year old quarterback in Aaron Rogers. The Jets are just sinking, man. What do you think the biggest issue has been with the Jets? They've just kind of tried to check every box to get things together and it hasn't worked.
Culture. I just think they've created a culture there where there's not a lot of stability anywhere, right? You know, we all see now that Robert, you know, Coach Robert Salah, he's not the problem.
He wasn't a problem. And it goes deeper than to just add one or two players, Devante Adams, you can add a couple of players. But if your culture in that locker room, in that building is not good, it's going to resonate all the way down. And I use the charges, for example, you know, they had a bad culture when Brandon Stilly there. I like Brandon Stilly personally, but he wasn't a great, you know, leader, right?
He wasn't a great culture builder. And it resonated all throughout the locker room and through the staff and everywhere else. And now you see Harbaugh coming in and his coordinators believe in them. The players believe in them. They look like a completely different team than they did last year in one year, right?
So this was the culture switch to change that came in there. I think the Jets culture, man, has to has to change because they got guys, they got players. It's not like they're a bad team. So they got guys who can perform well.
But when you got a bad culture, man, it doesn't matter. Well, Sean, talking about your former team with those bolts, how long do you think it'll take for Harbaugh to help turn things around? You have the franchise QB.
He's setting things up at the line of scrimmage. How long is it going to take for them to take another step? I think they've taken a big step already. I think that they still got an opportunity to be a playoff team this year. What you would like to see is, you know, more points put on the ball, right? Because they're running the ball extremely well.
They're playing great defense. And so those two things, you're always going to be competitive. You can run the ball well and play great defense. You're always going to be in the game no matter what.
That, this is the mentality. Again, we're talking about culture and establishing identity on who you guys are. We had a hard-nosed team. He went to draft Joe Ault, right? You had Malik Nabors there, who was a great wide receiver, but you establish in the culture.
You establish an identity, which they were missing. And they came in and done just that. Both of those tackles, Rashawn Slater and Joe Ault are leading right now, as far as pressures in the NFL. Joe, Justin Herbert hasn't been touched. And that was a culture that's established.
And so, I think he's already made leaps and bounds, but I think it'll be another year before they are in the dominant position, possibly to take over the division from KC. Sean Merriman is here with us, the JR sport re-show Coast to Coast. I want to get into the bills and what you got going on with Lights Out Sports TV, but you talk about culture. How much more difficult is it to establish culture in a locker room when we have a Trayvon Diggs and social media and everybody is all about who's saying this? It seems like you would think with all the money they make, it'd be pushed out, but that's not the case. Yeah, money doesn't change culture, man. In fact, it enhances the bad culture sometimes, especially when you're not winning, right?
Because guys have a sense of entitlement. I'm not saying that Diggs was wrong. I think he should handle it differently when it comes to that reporter. I mean, the reporter is doing their job, even though you don't like it. Trust me, I've been in situations where I got to ask some ridiculous questions that I didn't want to answer. And you know, you can't just fire back off at these guys because they're there to, you know, to do a job. So what it really comes down to, man, is that you send a message, right?
Because Diggs, you know, he's a bigger name guy on that team. He's a vet. And so when you start firing off back like that, you really send a bad message to the locker room. So I wish you didn't say that. I wish you didn't go back and handle it in a different way. You know, I've been there before. Trust me, I wanted to lash out at a few reporters for asking me something ridiculous or even borderline disrespectful. And you got to overlook that stuff, man.
It's just kind of walk away from it or just be very vague, man, to get through it and get get away from it. Because the last thing you want to do is give them bullet to bullet material where they go on and cut these clips up and send it out through social media. Sean Merriman is here with us on the JR Sport Brief Show. You talk about culture. It seems like the Buffalo Bills have a good one. Perennial Super Bowl contenders. We've been waiting for them to take that next step.
They're six and two, which is a good thing because it's a quiet six and two. Right. What are your thoughts on what they've been able to do? Or do we just have to wait until the postseason? How do they get over that Mahomes hump? It's the postseason, right? Because with them, they've been good for quite a while, right? And you always going to have a shot when you got Josh Allen there.
I think the difference is with them now, if he's spreading the ball around so much, getting the ball to so many different wide receivers, they're getting after the quarterback up front, they're able to run the ball. So he's got a little help. He doesn't have to.
And I love my boy, Stefan Diggs, a Deaf former Terp. You know, I got wearing my Maryland shirt today, but you know, he requires the football, right? When you got a superstar on your team like that, you got to get them targets. I don't think Josh Allen was under that pressure this year to find his one guy and he has to give him the ball because it's a lot of pressure. You know, when you got a bigger name guy to come in and you got to get him the football. Now, they're just spreading the football, keeping defenses off balance and able to, you know, kind of dish the ball around a several different guys.
That is, that's the biggest difference in them this year and why they wanted so many games. And then the funny thing, what you just said is winning quietly. That is, those are the best wins, man, where people are not talking about you as much.
You're going out there collecting wins. You're winning some tough games and you're still not talked about enough. You know, before you know, you're going to become that sleeper when it comes late in the season, early on in the playoffs, that people are going to start paying attention to the domination because they've been dominating in some of these games this year. When you take a look at the the AFC, the NFC things are still kind of rounding out. Who do you favor out of both conferences? It seems like the usual suspects every year and it's just like, oh, who's going to knock the Chiefs off?
Right. Well, look, somebody, the Chiefs, man, you know, I want to say, I want to compare them to the Patriots when they had their run. They're on that type of run right now where I thought even some of those teams, we have the charges in the mid-2000s, were better than the Patriots. We were a better team. They just knew how to win and that's what the Chiefs are doing right now.
I mean, some of these games, they're just kind of fighting, finding ways to win. You're like, no way, there's no way in hell that they got an opportunity to win this game and they just go and they punch the ball in. They get the ball back when they need to. They're playing just great team football and those sometimes, it's the hardest teams to beat. Now, just adding DeAndre Hopkins into the mix there. It's like, man, come on.
What else do you guys need? Right? I mean, you're already, you know, winning a lot of football games, but I used them and I think that you, and I love my charges, man, but until somebody knock off the Chiefs, you can't go against the champs.
Until somebody knock them off. On the NFC side, man, I've never seen it this wide open. I mean, it's like, you don't know, you know, who can come out of that division. And by the way, they don't have to be, you know, 11 and six, right?
Or they don't, you know, they don't have those seven, whatever the games are. They don't have to have that big record. You can be a above average team and still get in the playoffs in the NFC right now.
That's the way of shaping up. NFL legend, Sean Merriman is here with us. We know the Buffalo Bills are part of that conversation. I think we've all seen the clips, whether you've seen it or you experienced it live, there's nothing like a Buffalo Bills tailgate. And I know you've gotten very involved on the media side of things. How are you tying together the tailgate with Lights Out TV?
Phyllis, what's that about, Sean? Yeah, so I launched my free ad supported all sports platform called Lights Out Sports TV. It's available on every smart TV, CTV device you guys got out there. So you got Roku, Apple TV, Amazon, Vizio, TCL, Phillips, you name it.
We're on every one of those platforms, iOS, Android. We got a ton of really cool sports, combat sports. We got wrestling there and chess and outdoor fishing, hunting, you name it.
300 sports movies and documentaries is there. We got 16 concurrent live sports is ongoing. And we just launched the ultimate fan zone, which is like the I mean, this has been kind of cool because no one's ever done a tailgate live.
Right. And so we do a 60 minute live tailgate show two hours before kickoff. We're in SoFi Stadium at some of the Chargers games. And this Sunday we got the Buffalo Bills, November 3rd, the Buffalo Bills in the tailgate, which is going to be really cool because we got a couple of former players as hosts.
So bringing back some of the guys that I played with or played against or played after me. And also, too, man, it'll be live. It'll be live on Lights Out Sports TV exclusively.
And just a super cool, fun show, man. It's like everybody get a chance to watch the games, but not not very many people get a chance to watch the tailgates. Right. Because the tailgates are the one you really got the FOMO. If you don't if you don't go, you're like, OK, if I missed the game, I would just watch it on TV.
Right. But you can't watch the tailgate. So we wanted to make sure that all fans and nobody does it like Buffalo, man. I mean, that I tell people all the time, I say, you see things on social media, you see certain things on the Internet. It is different when you go there, when you're there and you see those fans and how passionate they are, man.
They are they are something else, man. So I I wanted to bring, you know, get a chance for everybody to see it, you know, see that tailgate live and what goes on and not just a 30 second or a minute clip. You get a chance to see a full live tailgate experience out there with the Bills Mafia, man. So I can't wait this this Sunday at 11 a.m. Eastern, 11 a.m. Eastern will be live at the tailgate. And this thing is going to be next level.
So I get a chance to go live in the parking lot, man, which is going to be cool. Sean, I know people are going to love that you got you got the red, white and blue super pants ready. You got the pants ready. I get well, look, I got my I got my bills jersey right here ready to go. And I'm doing a giveaway today with also an assigned Josh Island jersey giveaway for people downloading lights out sports TV and getting ready for the Buffalo Bills tailgate.
But this is going to be next level, man. I see the repost and stuff on social media. Other people know I'm coming out there. And that's just how this is how the Bills fans do it, man. It's so much love there. And I can't stop talking about it because I tell people all the time.
I said, dude, that was probably one of the best things to happen in my career, getting a chance to go out there, play for the Bills and play for those fans, man, because there's some there's something else. No, we see it. Sean, where can people follow you for this upcoming weekend and beyond? Yep.
Yep. They can follow me at Sean Merriman on on X and IG and then follow also at Lights Out Sports TV. Go to LightsOutSportsTV.com, download it anywhere that you got a smart TV with their iOS, Android. Check us out. But this Sunday, Bills Mafia cannot wait to get out there. This is going to be next level.
You heard it from an NFL legend himself. You're locked into the JR Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we're going to dive more into some NFL and some basketball. The World Series is getting ready to tip off as well.
First pitch shots to say. But right now on the Infinity Sports Network, it's time for a news flash. Here he is, Rich Ackerman. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much to NFL legend Chargers Bill Sean Merriman for joining us in the last break to talk some NFL football and a cool activity he has with Lights Out Sports TV this weekend in Buffalo. Shout out to everybody listening in Western New York.
If you missed the conversation with Sean, you can go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app in about 40 minutes. Sometime next hour, we should have Johnny Damon coming through to join us to talk about the World Series. We open up the show by talking about how the New York Yankee fans were kind of wild last night, or at least those two dudes who were banned for grabbing at Mookie bets. And we'll get into some more baseball. We're going to pivot over into some more NFL.
I'm going to get into Jameson Williams in a second. Yeah, this is the guy who was suspended from the Detroit Lions for performance enhancing substances. Okay, he violated their policy.
We don't know what the substances are, what they were. And he doesn't either. At least that's what he says. In a few seconds, I'm going to tell you some more trouble that he actually might be in. Not a good thing. 855-212-4227 is the number if you want to give me a holler.
It is real simple. 855-212-4227. I think we have Mike from Texas. Is Mike from Texas?
You hear Mike? I'm there. I'm here. Well, thank you for taking the time to join us.
What's on your mind? Hey, JR. I'm older.
I'm 63, and I went to three World Series in Oakland in the early 70s. But my kids, when they were growing up, I taught my kids that they were to act appropriately. And their role models, I told them to look at four athletes.
And if they were to pattern themselves after this, then they would do just fine. It was Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Dr. Jay, and Hank Aaron. All conducted themselves as gentlemen, but they showed up on their game day, and they were to kick your behind. So, you know, I think we've lost that. Today's athlete needs to find a little more rookie bets, as we saw. But those older athletes that conducted themselves was decorum and professional. Yeah, I agree with you.
Thank you so much, Mike, for calling from Texas. And you know what? It's not even just an athlete thing. It's just an everybody person thing. And a lot of it has to do with the internet and social media and everybody having an opinion and everybody feeling entitled. So why did those guys feel entitled to grab the ball? I think in another era, they would have got punched in the face. So I think everybody could take a step back, relax, listen, and learn.
I think that stands for everybody. And I just told you about Jamison Williams. What does this man need to learn? This man was the 12th overall pick in a 2022 draft by the Detroit Lions. He played only six games in his rookie year because he was returning from an ACL tear that he suffered in the college football title game when he was playing for Alabama. Last year, you were expecting him to go full bore. And then he had a three game suspension for gambling at the team facility.
Not supposed to do that. He said he didn't know, as he's a learning experience. Well, this is a learning experience. And then it was only, what, last week, early last week, two weeks ago, we learned that he's going to be banned, already missed the game. He's banned two games for violating the NFL's performance enhancing substances policy.
And it's like two games. Like, if you're doing some, I don't know, some white powder, they're going to say, hey, man, you got to take a seat for a while. You know, like, what do you use that they're only, quote unquote, air quotes, suspending you for two games?
It can't be nothing that crazy, right? He picked something up at the gas station that he wasn't supposed to. He said last week, he said, I don't know what I did. He's not fighting.
He's not appealing. He's like, I don't know what triggered a false positive test. What happened? He doesn't know. So he's supposed to be laying low right now, right? When you get suspended, you, you're supposed to be on your best behavior.
You're supposed to be. Well, we found out that he might be on his best behavior now, but he had a little bit of an issue prior to this. And he's actually being investigated by the police for something I think is totally unrelated. Take a listen to this, courtesy of Fox two in Detroit. Charges are not out of the question for Jameson Williams.
Detroit police tell me they have submitted a warrant to the Wayne County prosecutor's office, who will decide if having a registered pistol inside a car without a license for it is worth a charge. Detroit police internal affairs, launching an investigation to figure out why Detroit lion's wide receiver. Jameson Williams was let go this month. The Sergeant would make a series of phone calls to higher ups typical with a high profile in custody. At first, it sounded like Williams would go to jail, but that changed with the last second phone call back from a Lieutenant. Oh, oh, oh boy.
Oh boy. He didn't act everybody. Is everybody going to get in trouble?
Not that you know the answer, but I mean, damn. So basically he, he should've got in trouble. Should've got arrested. Somebody said, let him go. And now that person may get in trouble as well as him. That's what it sounds like to me.
That's what it sounds like to me as well. And you know what, rightfully so. Oh my God. You know, if you're not doing your job, letting people off that shouldn't be let off, you should get punished as well.
You mean, you mean famous people and athletes shouldn't receive preferential treatment. That's what they say. And good on the Detroit PD for maybe possibly enforcing that.
Wow. And what we don't know the details of the timeframe exactly when this was, but what, what Hickey what's next for Hickey? What's next for Jamison? What is he going to do next? Gambling at work, running around with a unlicensed gun, allegedly taking performance enhancing drugs at work. I mean, I don't want to go down a list of things that he could get into, but this, there comes a point in time where the lions, this, this has already hurt them.
They're six and one. They can light up anybody that they want. They just lit up the Tennessee Titans 52 to 14, but there comes a point in time where we're not having a guy like Jamison Williams out on the field is definitely going to hurt you. He's a game breaker.
You have to account for his speed. You snap your fingers and this guy is gone so far this year, 361 yards receiving to go along with three touchdowns in six games. Now, do I think that we're going to wake up at the end of the season? The NFL is just going to say, Hey man, we found out about that gun you had that was unlicensed. So we got to suspend you.
I don't think that's going to happen. The NFL don't move that damn fast, but this is becoming more than harmful for the Detroit lions. And yeah, he has to go through the legal process of everything, but he was gambling. Only a few guys got caught.
He was the biggest name at that point in time. This man just took some drugs. You know, if I took some drugs and they said, you know, you did it and I didn't do it. I would certainly appeal. He's not bothering to appeal. I guess he don't feel he has that strong of a case.
And now we found out that he's rolling around with weapons. So maybe Dan Campbell needs to take him, get him a talk. He can remember yesterday, we said, nobody wants to get that call into the office.
That's right. Maybe Dan Campbell needs to, you think he's probably already been called into the office, right? Dan Campbell has probably sat down with this manager and said, bro, what are you doing? Just get it together. Oh yeah.
Without, I mean, they may have had a few talks at this point. Like you said, this is the third time he's gotten well, potentially at least getting in trouble. And I know I was, I was saying, never put your hands on somebody.
I made a whole big to do about that earlier in the show. Maybe Dan Campbell needs to put hands on this guy to maybe wake him up. This is, he's a, he's a baby in his career and we haven't even seen the best or the most consistent of him yet because there's always an issue. There's always an incident. I'm not counting, you know, ACL tear coming out of college, but everything else that comes a point in time where you just have to be professional. I didn't know showing up to work and doing your job and, and trying to behave away from your job so you can still keep a job. I didn't know it was that difficult, but maybe I need to get a wide receiver contract coming out of Alabama for the Detroit lines.
Maybe, maybe that might skew how my brain works and operates. Good luck to Jamison Williams though. I wish him nothing but the best because at this point, some of these mistakes, if you want to call them that, that, that he's making, I don't know. Is this too much too soon? Is this lack of experience? Is, is he feeling Teflon? Is he feeling invincible? Ain't nobody out here invincible. Ain't nobody lasts forever. Good luck to him. I think the lines will be fine.
But if this guy has another issue, the lines may have to tell him, bro, just, just go and sit down. God bless him. They have a Sam Laporta, Arman Ross, St. Brown, but after that, the receivers, they drop off a little bit. They ain't Jamison Williams. I can tell you that for sure. It's the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network, 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.
That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. On the other side of the break, we finally heard from Anthony Richardson. He gave not an excuse. He gave more of an explanation. Now that he's been benched, we'll hear from him and his coach, Johnny Damon coming up to talk Yankees as well. It's the JR sport re-show on the infinity sports network coast to coast. Don't move.
