It is! The JR Sportbrief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia.
Much love and many thanks to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. Wherever you're at, whatever you're doing on this Monday, October 21st. I hope you're good. I hope you're safe. I hope you're well. Me, I'm going to be here with you for the next four hours. This is when the show gets started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific.
Oh, so much to get into. Brandon Aiyuk, we found out not too long ago, he is out for the season. We found out everybody knows. Deshaun Watson, he is out for the season as well. And fans in Cleveland, let them know how you felt on the way out. World Series is set. Texas goes down. Oregon continues to sit at the top.
Well, now they sit at the top. USC sucks. World Series is set. The NBA starts tomorrow. The WNBA crowned a champ yesterday.
So much to get into. Russell Wilson showed up to work, did his job, they won. The New York Jets, and the New York Jets, still a mess. And there's more football tonight.
How about this? We've got the Ravens and the Bucks. Lamar Jackson destroys the NFC, by the way. You know, we got the Chargers and the Cards.
Cards defense sucks. We'll take a deeper dive into everything I just discussed. We got a lot to do. You can always listen to this show on the free Odyssey app, on your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate, on Sirius XM channel 158, and a smart speaker.
Ask it to play the Infinity Sports Network. I'm here in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm being joined by super producer and host Ryan Hickey. And then we have some other guests who are going to come through and join us as we continue on here with the show.
We're going to talk about the Browns because what a disaster this entire Deshaun Watson situation is. Chris Easterling is going to join us from the Akron Beacon Journal. He'll be here with us at the end of next hour. And then two hours from now, we're going to be joined by former NFL player. And now you see this guy on the Food Network.
I mean, what a transition. And he's not some fat guy on the Food Network just chopping up meat. This man still looks like he will, you know, knock over a linebacker. Well, not a linebacker, a running back.
He played defensive back. Eddie Jackson is going to join us. We're going to talk some football, of course. And then we're going to talk some food because I likes to eat.
Very simple, okay? If you want to be a part of the show outside of listening, the phone number is here and it is follows. It's 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. You can find me online. I'm all over the internet, all over the place. I am at JR Sport Brief.
That's right. It's at JR Sport Brief. The people who utilize the internet. Hey, Ryan Hickey, how are you on this Monday afternoon, Monday evening, depending on where people live? Hello, JR. Doing well. Doing well today. Well, that's good. You have a good weekend? Yeah. Yeah. Watch some really good college football games. The Colts don't look now, despite Anthony Richardson having a tough time completing a forward pass and still trying to figure out how to slide. Four and three, getting hot.
Watch out, here we come. He helped at the end, which is nice. That's good. He helped at the end. That he did, contributing to winning.
It's a slow crawl. I'm afraid of what's going to happen in a few weeks now when they're on Sunday Night Football. I don't know how that's going to go against Brian Flores. But hey, for one week, looking good. And they helped at least distract from the Mets getting eliminated yesterday. So overall, not the weekend I wanted, but it wasn't a total zero. Not the weekend you wanted, but it's the weekend you deserve. You teed me up for it. You teed me up.
I couldn't help myself. Thanks. I appreciate you. You're a kind fellow. I try my best. I try my best. Yeah, I had a good weekend. I just watched football, you know, watched Tennessee and watched Georgia. We're going to get into Georgia.
People hitting me up. Do you do good, Georgia? Did you change your mind? No, I didn't. Not yet. Not yet. We got more evidence that, you know, Texas didn't necessarily have the strongest of schedules as they went on to face the Bulldogs.
But we'll get into that next hour. It wasn't too long ago that breaking news came down the pipe, unfortunately, for the San Francisco 49ers. And this is a team we watched lose to Kansas City yesterday. They looked like they were on E. OK, Brock Purdy went out there, had three interceptions. It wasn't it wasn't a good look. It was it was an ugly game. And the Chiefs, I mean, they've been winning ugly.
They won yesterday, 28 to 18. Patrick Mahomes had the fewest passing yards of his career at 154. But the big news, and you know, it was bad from the minute that it took place right before halftime, Brandon Aiyuk, wide receiver, the man who won and bitched and cried and moaned about his contract, the guy who went on social media trying to get a new deal, the man who demanded a trade, the man who said the 49ers don't want me.
Come get me. This man tore his ACL right before halftime, smashed in between two defenders. His leg was kind of in the grass, stuck. And then the defender came in and went in that knee. And that ACL is done. I want you to take a listen. I'm telling you, it's over.
Ian Rappaport earlier today, he gave the latest update. Listen, Brandon Aiyuk, the receiver who spent so much time in the headlines this offseason for a lot of reasons. Would he be traded?
Would he get a contract? Oh, he's going to be traded. I'm about to hit the button. Don't hit the button. Hit the contract extension button, which is what happened.
$30 million a year. And now the other side of it, he is expected to be out for the season with a torn ACL and potentially more. This, according to coach Kyle Shanahan after the game, he said, this is their fear.
Generally, when it's a contact injury, you know, more tests today. Yeah. Well, I'm telling you now it came out today. He's done. It's official.
Not because Shanahan said it or Rappaport said it on the NFL network. We found out this man is out for the season. And so now you're down two stars. You got to wait for Christian McCaffrey to come back from his sore legs, overworked legs.
And then you got to just throw the ball to Kittle and Deebo and hope that they work. And congratulations to Ricky Piersol. This man showed up to work.
He was shot at the end of August, August 31st. Why do I, Hickey, why do I remember the date? That's impressive. Yeah. How do you remember that? Okay. Well, I don't know. I'm giving you credit. I mean, that's a great memory you have. I try.
I try. He got shot August 31st. I don't know the time. I know it was the afternoon.
Okay. But anyway, I know where he was yesterday, October 20th. He was on a football field on a losing team. This man, Ricky Piersol, three receptions, 21 yards, five targets. I have a feeling he's going to get a whole lot more of those targets without Brandon Iuke. Let's remember, he basically drafted Ricky Piersol with the thought that, hey, if Brandon Iuke leaves or we got to trade this guy, at least we have a serviceable wide receiver. Or so they hope.
He's a rookie. Am I expecting him to replace Brandon Iuke's production a thousand yards and, you know, eight to 10 touchdowns? Uh, I don't think so, but we'll see what happens with these, these 49ers. Up next for them after losing to Kansas City yesterday, they got a record of three and four and take on the Dallas Cowboys. At least that's good for them, right? Go ahead.
Get things started. The 49ers, I think they'll be okay. I still look at this 49ers team as a squad that can go to the postseason. I still look at this 49ers squad, Christian McCaffrey.
He will turn eventually, eventually. They'll be fine. Just think they're in a rough patch right now with the injuries.
It certainly doesn't hurt or help. And this is a part of the NFL. But when you look at the NFC West, you running and screaming about Seattle? I saw what they did last, well the yesterday afternoon against the Falcons, but their quarterback is Geno Smith. Come on. Arizona doesn't play defense.
They're always in it for a shootout. This is a 49ers team that can still win without a Brandon Iuke. They better hope Christian McCaffrey comes back. Good luck to that complaining internet guy, Brandon Iuke.
Good luck to him in his recovery. Don't wish injury on anybody. Now, this was a bad one yesterday. You want to talk about wishing injury on somebody?
Oh my goodness. Deshaun Watson goes down right before halftime yesterday. The Browns lose to the Bengals 21 to 14. Deshaun Watson is actually throwing the ball pretty good. 15 completions, 17 attempts.
He's throwing for 128 yards. I mean, maybe they win. Maybe they win. And then there's Achilles pop. And then they put them on one of those rolly things where you sit up on the back end on the flatbed. And then everybody from both teams come around him. They wheel him out.
He is crying. And you got some fans that are cheering. Their quarterback being carted off the field.
Whoa. Can we really be surprised at how sick some of these people are? We had some fans, and I'm not going to just say they're Cleveland fans, but these are Cleveland fans. We had some fans who were making massage we had some fans who were making massage jokes, making light of the situation when he was signed and traded, I should say, and got that contract extension.
$230 million guaranteed. You had some fans that were willing to not give a damn. That shows you not even how fickle fans are. They just want the results. They don't care if you're 30 cases of sexual assault allegations. They don't care. You know, if you get hurt, they're going to boo you.
They're going to cheer you when it's convenient. They just want the wins. The Browns now have a record of one and six. They got Baltimore up next.
Okay. I mean, Baltimore plays tonight against the Bucks, but next week they're going to be one and seven. This is a lost season for the Browns. This might be multiple lost seasons for the Browns. And forget the loss last night or yesterday afternoon, all anybody focused on, congratulations, the Bengals are three and four, watch them go on some ridiculous win streak. All anybody could talk about was Deshaun Watson and what a disaster this is. And no, not his contract. The fact that the fans were booing, but cheering the injury, like you had guys out there, like Miles Garrett, he said, Browns fans, just, just being happy about an injury.
You sickos. This is what he said. I hate using the word deserves. I'm usually, you know, pretty consistent saying earned. He hadn't earned it and he doesn't deserve it. Man does pretty much everything right. He's been a, you know, a model citizen through college.
And most of the pros, he plays the game as hard as anyone I've seen puts everything on the line. We're going to throw his body out there. And you know, he plays a game at a hundred miles per hour and there's a risk can be injured. And he took that risk.
Oh yeah. You playing football. He's getting paid handsomely to do so. He has 230. If this man, I mean, he's going to come back, but $230 million, I think he is quite secure. The head coach, Kevin Stefanski. Damn it. He's not just a head coach. This is a guy.
Who's a two time NFL coach of the year. Kevin Stefanski says, man, the fans were cheering this man that he got hurt. What what's wrong with them? Yeah. I don't think it's ever okay to cheer when someone's injured. Uh, I'm sure it's not every person in that building doing that, but, uh, that's disappointing. Man.
Wow. I can't say I'm surprised we've seen fans cheer an injury, but we've never seen fans cheer an injury to a guy who's had, uh, you know, all the off the field transgressions and accusations. And then the performance hasn't been in, I don't know.
He's been sacked 31 times or heading into last night, yesterday afternoon, he was sacked 31 times. I don't know. Maybe, do you want to call this like football karma? You know, you don't want to wish an injury on anybody, but I don't know what goes around comes around us at the law of the universe or something like that. I don't know.
I know someone who is very into the laws of the universe. Someone who is very, uh, loquacious, someone who likes to utilize the gift of gab, Jamis Winston, by the way, he had the play yesterday. He was the emergency quarterback. The other quarterback, Dorian Thompson Robinson, he got hurt too. This man had to leave with a finger injury. Jamis Winston had to come on and God bless him. He threw a touchdown, but he tried to throw a verbal touchdown and pretty much telling all the fans what is wrong with y'all. You don't kick a man when he's down.
Listen, I am very upset with the reaction to a man that has had the world against him for the past four years. And he put his body and life on the line for this city every single day, regardless of your perception, regardless of, of what you thought should happen with him. He committed every single day that I've been here to be the best that he can be for this team. But the way I was raised, I will never, I will never pull on a man when he's down, but I will be the person to lift him up.
I tell myself every morning what I want for myself, I want for everyone. And I do not want the treatment that Deshaun Watson has received from these passionate fans. I know you love this game, but Deshaun was treated badly.
Okay. Now I get it. These are his teammates. This is coach. Nobody deserves to be kicked when they're already down, right? Nobody deserves. You don't want to cheer an injury.
This man blew out his Achilles. The fans in there are cheering, get them out of here. That's not cool.
That's not nice at all. And you would expect his teammates to stand up for him because they know him for what he does. He shows up to work. He throws the football, whether it's good or bad and he leaves. We don't know what took place before he got to Cleveland.
I don't know what he does when he leaves. We can read the accusations. And I get it. You judge him by what you see. You judge him as a coworker.
Deshaun Watson ain't my coworker. Never met the guy, never spoken to the dude. I don't think I've ever been in the same room as him.
And if it is, there's a big gigantic ballroom, I don't know, a media day or something. I don't know the guy from a hole in the wall. All I know is what I read. I know there've been a lot of accusations. There've been a lot of accusations against him.
I know he's been kind of just lackadaisical in explaining his performance this year. They don't pay me to run. They pay me to throw the ball. Well, now they're going to be paying you to rehab. In this trade for what you thought just weeks and months ago was the worst contract ever given out in NFL history.
How is it going to age for a guy who a couple of years ago, he blew out his Achilles or excuse me, blew out his knee and now he's blown out his Achilles and we're thinking he's now going to be going another year, probably it'll be ready next season, I would figure at some point. The Browns are cooked just like him. Misery loves company. And the Browns, forget Deshaun Watson, the Browns are probably getting what they deserve right now.
The Haslam's sat around, oh, we spoke to him before we traded and we feel comfortable and confident. Well, now y'all are screwed. This is a lesson learned for everybody out here.
Just because something is right there in front of you, just because it's right there, doesn't mean it's yours to grab or take. And that's a message for Deshaun Watson too, as he sits through his rehab. I'm not cheering his injury, but damn, the Browns got what they deserve on this one. Better get them paper bags ready. Hickey, are they going to run out of paper bags in Cleveland?
Yeah, they might. You're going to need them in full force now for the next two months. Oh my God. Two months?
I'm thinking years, man. Wow. Oh, that's true. Yeah. I was just thinking about the immediate future. You're right. It does not look pretty at all. It's going to be bad. My condolences not to Deshaun Watson, my condolences to the Browns fans.
But this is something you're probably used to. It's the JR Sportbree show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227.
That's the number if you want to give me a holler. We're going to take a break. We have so much to get into. We'll talk about some of the NFL games that are going to take place tonight. You got the Ravens and the Bucks.
You got the Chargers and the Cards. We're definitely going to get into the World Series. We got to wait until Friday for Game 1. We'll talk more about the NBA starting tomorrow. The WNBA concluding yesterday. We got more football. College.
We have guests that are coming through. I told you about Chris Easterling from the Akron Beacon Journal. I'm going to ask him where the Browns go from here. Former NFL D-back Eddie Jackson is going to come through and join us.
And you know what? On the other side of the break, let's talk about another quarterback. He just came back from injury and he led his team to a victory on Sunday Night Football. I'm talking about Russell Wilson. He's back with amazing quotes.
Of course he is. It's the JR Sportbree show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sportbree. It is the JR Sportbree show here with you coast to coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. We've been hanging out for a little while now. Almost half an hour. We talked about this injury that'll wipe out Brandon Iuch for the entire season and torn ACL. We talked about the injury that'll wipe out Deshaun Watson for the rest of this season.
Maybe the beginning of next as well is blowing out achilles. And there's so many other injuries we have to give you an update on. We did see the return of Nick Chubb yesterday, by the way.
And we'll get into more of that later on in the show. 11 carries, 22 yards. Tua Tonga Veloa, he's returning to practice on Wednesday.
So we'll run through some more of the injuries as we move on. Let's talk about a man who did return from an injury yesterday. Finally throwing a football. Damn it, I haven't seen a Pittsburgh Steelers throw the football like that since, I don't know, some guy named Ben Roethlisberger. But the Steelers, they beat the Jets Sunday Night Football 37-15. This was ugly for the New York Jets, okay? Pittsburgh rattled off 31 points to ultimately win this game. Aaron Rodgers throwing interceptions, missing guys, wide receivers are tipping the ball, not catching. This is bad.
Real bad. We'll get into the Jets later on, those losers. Anyway, Russell Wilson in the return. 265 yards passing, two touchdowns. He rushed for another one. Could you see this happening with Justin Fields?
Probably not. George Pickens, I know he was like a pig in you know what yesterday. The man finished with 111 yards receiving to go along with the touchdown. Najee Harris. He's like, man, I get to run the football. He had 102 yards rushing. And this offense, let me say this again, the New York Jets defense is supposed to be good, right?
The Pittsburgh Steelers put up 37 points for him against them. There's a more balanced attack. Come on now. We had a lot of people saying, oh, leave Justin Fields in there. They're limited.
They're able to have more balance. They look like a traditional offense with Russell Wilson. And oh, there's no time machine taking Russell Wilson back in time. But he's still serviceable enough to move the ball down the field. We know he can throw the rock.
It's real simple. And so Mike Tomlin, he never said this about the other quarterback. He used a very special word.
Take a listen. I thought he, I thought he was excellent. I thought he got better as the game went on, man. I thought he, but I'm not surprised by that, man. It's been a while since he's played some ball, but I thought he, he settled in, knocked the rust off, man, and distributed the ball around and, and played well.
Prepare yourselves. You're about to hear Russell Wilson. Do you think, you think Russell Wilson said that he played excellent?
Of course not. Because Russell Wilson has to be humble. He has to be calm. He has to be, he has to be an angel. He has to be angelic.
The angelic quarterback football player. Yeah. Hickey, do you think he considered his play to be excellent? No, I will say the one thing he has not done is really hype himself up. You know, he's not been self-aggrandizing, I guess, if you will. Ever? Or you mean now? I mean, I feel like ever?
Like am I, am I missing something here? No, no, no. He has, but bruh. That whole, his agent said there were teams he wanted to be traded to, but then he didn't want to be traded.
And then he's like, no, I want to be, that whole, that whole month long saga where he basically played like he was innocent in the fact, like, bruh, you want to be traded, but you don't want to do it publicly because it doesn't look good for you. Yeah, that's fair. I guess there's more thinking along the lines of like his actual play on the field, but you're right. That was, I mean, that was like two years running and the first time he's on the Dan Patrick show, whatever, one more freedom, whatever you write. That was definitely, he went out of character for sure during that like month stretch.
No doubt about it. I'm not comparing him to, you know, T.O. or what's this other guy's name? The one from the Steelers. I don't even want to say his name, Antonio Brown.
I'm not calling him. Could you imagine Russell Wilson ripping off his shirt and leaving and quitting? He'd have to be checked. They'd have to put them in concussion protocol.
Like did, did he have a personality transplant? Like what the hell is this about? Could you imagine both of those guys in the same locker room? Who? Antonio Brown and Russell Wilson. Oh my God.
Polar ends of the spectrum. I think that would lead to a fistfight. Oh no, I would, I would hope that Russell Wilson would just follow, follow, follow. Even if he's a phony, just follow him around a little bit, please. Anything that you do can't be, it can't get, look, just follow, follow Russell Wilson around.
Go to this. I don't need, do they want him? Nah, man. That guy's a clown. I was going to say, do they even want him in the house? This man was staying with Tom Brady and talked all this crap about him and his wife after the fact. Icky, come on.
What are we doing? He's not a good guy. He's not, he's not a good person. He's not.
I'll leave it there before I say anything more disparaging. Let's talk about a guy. He is a good guy. He tries too hard to be a good guy. So much that he comes across as a phony. Russell Wilson, he didn't say his play was excellent. He says, I can be better.
Of course he did. That's the biggest thing right now is, is there's a lot more room that we can grow and we're going to, we're going to go for it and we're going to celebrate tonight. But when, you know, when that clock strikes in the morning, that sun comes up in the morning, we get, we got to get better.
Damn. Speaking of injuries, Jim Harbaugh, you're getting ready to take on the, the Cardinals. The charges are, they just showed Jim Harbaugh, you know, walk into the locker room. He walks like a former NFL quarterback because he is. And then he had that heart issue last week. So I'm glad to see that he's, he's moving around. Back to Russell Wilson.
This man continued on. Well, I don't want to say I'm disappointed, but it wasn't necessary. It wasn't needed. Hickey, you know how many passes Justin Fields threw yesterday? Zero. Damn. You know how many rushing attempts he had yesterday?
After they promised that he could get into the game? Zero. Oh man.
Yeah. He was just watching. He's just there. He's a great cheerleader. He didn't do anything.
They didn't need him. He'll see the football field at times folks. A little smoke and mirrors, a little deception. And so now that they're having, or had success, it's been one game. Pittsburgh's next game is against the New York Giants. So if the Steelers don't go six and two, man, and I'm not, I'm not looking at these Steelers as a Super Bowl contender. If they're able to turn into that, God bless them off the heels of the defense and throw in a ball. Good for them. Still don't think they have enough offensive firepower. They're going to be six and two.
They're going to go to the postseason. And so very simple. Mike Tomlin was asked about this bowl decision that got him criticized. And he had a very simple answer for it. That's why I'm well compensated.
Thank you. Yeah. Just making a big bucks, making a difficult decisions. This man pulled the quarterback who was four and two to open up an offense that is now a five and two. And so the big question to Russell Wilson, are you and Justin Fields, are y'all beefing?
Is there a competition? Like what's the deal, Russell? You know, I think there's a lot of outside noise that makes it seem like it's a negative thing in this rivalry internal.
And it's not, man. It's just, we just want to win. That's what we're focused on. I mean, I got to give Justin Fields credit, man, just all the things that he was able to do, how great he's been playing, man. He inspires me every day, how he works, vice versa.
I mean, we have a great relationship. He's a tremendous quarterback. He's a franchise quarterback. He's a leader. He's got all the intangibles.
Oh yeah. He ain't playing though, I am. That's the part that Russell Wilson didn't say. He's great at practice playing with the second string. I'm good on Sunday. And I expect them to continue to be good against the New York giants next Sunday.
And poor New York. Daniel Jones got benched. Brian Deball is saying, yeah, I talk to the owners all the time.
That's not a good thing, bro. And Saquon Barkley gashed them. What a shock and what a surprise. Hickey, did you, did you pick Saquon on any fantasy or anything yesterday?
I did not, but I wish I did. Yeah, he was, ooh, to be expected. And the fans are burning the jerk. What is he, Ben Simmons?
Like leave this guy alone. Blame the New York giants. Everybody's about to get fired in New York giants soon anyway. Anyway, it's the JR sport reshow here with you on the infinity sports network. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.
That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. We're going to take a deeper dive into the disaster that are the New York jets. Like they're the ones who lost to the Steelers yesterday. What a terrible team.
Got all these players. That's what it is. They're not a team.
That's the problem. And we're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, let's talk about some good teams. Two teams that are going to be participating in their first world series against each other for the first time since 1981. Talking about the Dodgers, the Yankees, the two bad guys of major league baseball.
I think the country hates their guts. And somebody has to hoist the commissioner's trophy. We'll get into that in the next break. We'll talk about how awful the New York jets are. We're going to talk some Georgia Bulldogs.
I'm happy that they won. Have a chat with Chris Easterling. You are listening to the JR sport brief. It's the JR sport reshow here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.
That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. Amongst all the football. We're going to get into some college football as well and do that next hour. Take a look at these Bulldogs turning things around. Oregon is sitting at number one after smacking around Purdue. I mean, even Colorado won. Everybody's happy. They got a record of five and two right now.
We'll get into that next hour. We got the World Series all set. Game one is Friday. We got Garrett Cole in the mound for the New York Yankees. Yankees had one hell of a weekend taking extra innings. We needed a Soto three run home run in the 10th inning to send the New York Yankees to the World Series. Their first appearance since 2009. Dodgers, they haven't won it since the pandemic in 2020. They beat the Mets in game six, 10 to five. The Dodgers been scoring runs. Everybody wants to take a look at the top of the lineup. Mookie Betts. Freddy Freeman dealing with that ankle, so not him. Not as much.
Not really. Mookie Betts. And it's just like, oh, there's a bunch of other guys.
Muncie. But then you look at the pitching for the Dodgers and you say, man, they're slapping everybody together. Bullpen game this and bullpen game that and a bunch of young dudes just throwing like gas.
I mean, there were jokes of Clayton Kershaw having a good time because he can't pitch. And so we got the Dodgers and the Yankees. Haven't seen this match up in the World Series since 1981. The Dodgers ended up winning that series. The New York Yankees, all their fans are complaining, trying to get their hands on the ring number number 28. And so this is a this is a good World Series unless you hate the Yankees and you hate the Dodgers.
Let's be real there. There are a lot of people who absolutely hate both. Hickey, who are you rooting for?
Nobody. I wish I ever I mean, I hate I have to root for the Dodgers because I can't I can't have Yankee fans living next to me, happy, rubbing in my face. Oh, my God. But I can't root for the team that beats mine. Drives me crazy. There's a lot to not like about the Dodgers in general.
This is for any Mets fan out there. This is hell on earth. You hell on earth. So you're rooting for no one. I'm rooting for nobody. But I mean, obviously somebody's going to win. Right.
Barring the world ending, which I'm not rooting for. Yeah. It's coming. Hopefully not soon. Right. Right. Selfishly long after we're both gone, then it can happen. Yeah, that'll be nice. It'll be nice.
Yeah. The Mets had a good season. Unexpected season. I thought the Mets were going to be at or around 500 with all the injuries and old ass pitchers they got rid of.
The New York Mets finished 89 and 73 and went to the National League Championship Series. Like, I don't know anybody who gets this. I don't know anybody who saw this coming. I give you credit. I mean, from early this year, you took a look at the New York Mets and you thought that they were going to be better than sure as hell what I expected out of them.
And they went on a run. And now you got a Peter Lonzo who is heading into free agency. I don't know who the hell is going to pay him and how much, especially given how he performed throughout the course of the year. He picked it up more recently in the postseason. But you do have Francisco Lindor for what, another six years? You have Brandon Nimmo for the same amount of time.
And Francisco Lindor, this is what I'm happy about. People are going to give him a damn break. There's no more of this. We're paying 300 for what? We're paying 10 years? No, that's over. I think people have fully embraced him as a New York Mets. And I can't wait to see him go out there for another almost 162 games next season.
Next season, you know, after this magical ride, Francisco Lindor, he says, you know what? We got expectations now. We need to keep on building off of it. Their organization got better for sure this year, but nothing's promising this game. I'm sure they're going to put an extremely high amount of energy and effort into our season to continue to make the organization better. And so should the players. The players should continue to work as hard as they can.
I'm including myself to, I will continue to work as hard as I can to push myself to be in a much better spot next year. And it's not just him. He needs a pit, like, can we get caught asenga for a whole year with the New York Mets, please? It's not just him. And every team needs somebody unexpected to just show up and help out.
How about this? I mean, for the Dodgers, Tommy Edmond, he's just his first year with the Dodgers. He's typically playing with St. Louis. You don't expect much out of him, but to show up, this guy hit 407 in the NLCS. He had 11 hits. He had one home run, 11 RBIs. It's a franchise postseason record for the NLCS. This is what Tommy Edmond did.
Nobody knows who the hell this guy is. And this is what he said yesterday after they won. It's pretty crazy, especially with the history of the organization, to have tied that record.
I had no idea about it until, I guess, after the game. But, you know, a huge part of that is just, you know, a testament to the guys on the team. We had really good at-bats throughout the series. Our whole lineup was really good. We had any number of guys who could have won MVP. But, you know, I just kept getting up with guys on base and had a lot of opportunities to drive runs in. Yeah, give it to somebody besides Shohei Ohtani.
Come on. How many more awards does Shohei Ohtani need? Get ready to give this man another MVP award.
And Shohei Ohtani, he's the type of guy. Hickey, you think, what does he have? Like, probably one couch in his house. It sits there in the middle of the floor by itself. He has, you know, two chairs.
Well, my point is, this guy, this house is probably very sterile. Do you think he has a TV? I don't know.
Probably not. This house is looks like this house looks like a hospital after they clean it. A very, very nice one.
OK. It's very blank. Probably doesn't have any art on the wall. Just him, his wife and his dog in his baseball clothes. Sleeps in his uniform? He sleeps in his uniform.
His wife has to plug him into the wall before he goes to sleep. Come on, Shohei, what do you do for fun? Come on.
Is it all baseball? Oh, man. They had the interpreter talk to him after the game.
Hickey, I didn't even bother to watch. I said, what is he going to say? Nothing.
This is nothing. Just standing all six, four, six, five of them. Just I play baseball. I'm happy I'm not on the Angels. Here I am.
And plug me back into the wall. Dave Roberts, he says, you know what? This upcoming world series, this Dodgers, Yankees. Well, it's going to be fun. Obviously, we're going to celebrate tonight as we should. I think the whole world was looking forward or hoping for this potential matchup, this showdown.
It's going to be great. They're a very talented team. But I think for us, it's kind of, you know, one game at a time. But appreciate the fact that we still got, you know, four wins to take care of business. Was the world really looking for this matchup?
The world may be right. People in Japan, I don't think they cared as long as Shohei Ohtani woke up. I know Yankee fans, they've been waiting for this since 2009. But if you're a fan of the Royals or the Padres or the Mets or the Rangers or the White Sox fans, they don't, they don't look for anything. Who wants this besides baseball? Knowing that you have two of the biggest media markets, two of the biggest areas with television sets and screens in the country, just tuned in.
That's what you want from a business standpoint. But then I guess at the same time, who was excited last year for the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks? You think baseball wanted that?
No, not at all. And so the Yankees, they get started on Friday against the Dodgers and the Yankees are ready. Aaron Judge, people aren't looking at him as a scrub right now in the postseason.
He was on TBS and he talked about his first trip to this world series. Listen to Judge. It's sweeter. This is even sweeter. This group we have, it's something special.
All the work they put in the off season, the ups and downs of the regular season, it's no better group. And to get the support out of our fans all year long, this is special. This is special.
Yeah, the end of that game was special. My God, Stanton is crazy. New York Yankees postseason legend already. Just in the ALCS, two home runs, four home runs, two run home run this. He was great. Yankee fans need to give him a break too.
I can't tell you how many people called me for the past forever. Oh my God, they got to trade Stanton, the worst contract ever. Now he's helping you win a world series. Picky, if the Yankees win a world series, where are all the people who've been killing Brian Cashman for the past, I don't know, five years, five years, five years, I don't know, 15 years, where are they at? What are they going to say? What are they going to say?
Nothing, nothing to say, right? All the criticisms at that point would wash away. Man, Garrett Cole is going to get the start for the Yankees. And this man signed his contract, came over, started in Pittsburgh, went to Houston. He says, man, world series?
Finally. This makes the hard work for the year and the teamwork and all the effort. It just, it's so validating. Look, this man was too tired to pitch at the beginning of the year because he worked too hard. This man pitches every single game, almost every single year.
He shows up and works and works and works and works and works some more. He's a great pitcher. Hopefully he has some great results here in the post-season. I know the New York Yankees looking forward to it. And so the Dodgers, I'm going to be watching. Why? Because I'm a Yankees fan.
It's the JR sport pre-show here with you on the infinity sports network. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, could you imagine Aaron Rogers saying the same thing after like a playoff victory, after a super bowl victory for the jets? Probably not because the jets, they suck. They do. We'll talk about how bad they are. If they lost to Pittsburgh last night, it's the JR sport reshow. Don't move.
