You can hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. Thank you for listening live on your local affiliate, wherever you might live, wherever you might be. If that radio works and you got it tuned on in your car, in the shop, whatever.

Thank you. If you're fancy pants or if you're a truck driver or you're like me. I also got Sirius. It's Sirius Channel 158. I'm fancy sometimes, okay?

$5 a month fancy. You can always listen as well if you got a smart speaker. Ask the speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. We've had a very busy day in the world of sports. And we've talked about it all.

First of all, thank you so much. It's a former Major League Baseball All Star. The family name also says it all. Brett Boone came through and chatted it up with us about the current Major League Baseball playoffs and also his life, his relationship with Pete Rose. His dad played with Pete Rose. He was hanging out with Pete Rose's son as a kid. He'd go over and hang out in Pete Rose's house. If you missed that conversation with Pete Rose, who also happens to be an Odyssey Major League Baseball insider, go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. It is very well worth the listen.

How about this? 20 minutes from now, we're going to have a conversation with Jared Dubin, CBS sports writer, all things NFL, because we've had a busy NFL day. Devante Adams has been reported that he wants to go. His time in Vegas, it appears to be up.

Right now, he's dealing with a hamstring issue. But it was a funny story earlier today about Devante. As word started to get out that the Raiders were open and trading him and Antonio Pierce is liking a post on Instagram about it being his final game as a Raider. And it just got real stupid. It became real Raider-esque. And so we talked about that earlier in the show.

And so I have that chat with Jared Dubin in about 20 minutes. And we also discussed Von Miller. He will be suspended for the next four games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. Last year, there was a domestic incident at his house with Von Miller and his at the time pregnant girlfriend. Ultimately, he said nothing took place. Everything was false. His girlfriend at the time, I guess, recanted her statement and said nothing happened. The police and some of the photographs said otherwise when it came to signs of physical abuse and trauma. The NFL, even though that there were no charges filed, the NFL said suspended.

Four games. J.R. wisdom, life wisdom. Don't touch nobody. Don't hit nobody. Don't hit no woman.

Don't do it. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Congratulations to the New York Mets. Walked away with a victory not yesterday, but the New York Mets walked away with a victory today, knocking off the Brewers eight to four. The Royals beat the Orioles one to zero. The Tigers picked up their first victory, first playoff victory since 2013.

I believe that was five consecutive losses. The Tigers beat the Astros three to one. And then right now, the Braves, excuse me, the Padres are already leading the Braves two to nothing. Since standing here in standing here in the studio, I just saw Tatis hit a bomb. And so the Mets not tired.

The Braves might be tired. We got a lot of people here on the phones who have a lot of thoughts, a lot of opinions. I know people asking me about Tua and all this other stuff. And then I did tell you that I have some information on Christian McCaffrey.

Speaking of injuries, we don't know what's going on with that guy, except for both of his Achilles apparently are not feeling too well. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Let's get to these phone lines and talk to Zach. Zach is calling from Alabama. You're on the J.R. sport. We shall go ahead, Zach.

Zach, Zach is no longer live on the radio. Brian is calling from Dallas. You're on the J.R. sport. We shall go ahead, Brian. Hey, J.R., how are you doing tonight? I am amazing. How are you?

Good, good. You know, you have a vocal doppelgänger. So girl Brown, I have to listen for a minute. Every time I hear him, I'm like, no, that's not J.R. I mean, you guys, it's uncanny. It's like I grew up across the street from each other.

You know, the level of the same dialect and accent you guys have. Well, thank you. I appreciate that. Who did you say this was? Who is this? Gerald Brown is his name. Gerald? Gerald Brown, man. OK. Yeah.

Just speak over there. You know, sometimes I listen to his voice. I mean, it's uncanny, man. Are you talking about Gerald Brown from NBA radio? You know what? Yeah, yeah, I think that. No, you know what? Because he talks about every subject. So I don't think it's.

Yeah, I don't think it's him. Go ahead. Yeah. So but anyway, my opening statement, man, is Tula needs to retire right now. And the reason I say that is because of my background. I trained athletes and I've dealt with a New York giant cornerback who had CTE. I've dealt with a former All Pro St. Louis Cardinal. He's not St. Louis, Arizona Cardinal linebacker CTE. I've dealt with a former Dallas Cowboy wide receiver with CTE, a former cold money back with CTE.

And one of the guys who was a former Oklahoma Sonu played an NBA NFL just to come in the same barbershop with me. We just watched him deteriorate and die in a whole horrible manner from CTE. I think I don't think the the public is really getting a sense of what's going on here intentionally. And that's not an accident.

Like you mentioned about frequency and does frequency mean that you're available to get more? Well, it's kind of like in boxing, right? You got those boxes who are undefeated.

Antonio Tarver was one of them. He got knocked out one time. And then after that, he would go down. He would go down if you blew on him wrong in the ring because it's kind of like a cracked egg.

You know, once the head has that type of trauma and inflammation, then it is susceptible to reentering itself in that type of trauma in a much smaller level of impact. This young man is not thinking about the next 20 years of his life. And if you're going to be able to look at his grandchildren or his children and even know their names in 20 years, somebody's got to stop it. Well, Brian, we know and you said it from your work. I think you know it as well as I do. It ain't going to be the NFL. Well, we can cover it up. There you go.

We got it. We got a long line of athletes that date back. Forget 10 years, 20 years, forget 30 years, forget 40 years, forget 50 years. We got we got half a century plus of athletes who have played, who have been dealing with issues. The NFL and this doesn't get talked about a lot. You know, they had to settle a lawsuit, a big old lawsuit, hundreds of millions of dollars for what they did not know. This isn't something or what they claim to not know.

And so this isn't new. And when you have a Miami Dolphins team that is paying to a Tonga below and now approximately fifty five million dollars a year and he's getting checked out by neurologists and there's no further damage for what can happen right now. Well, damn it. Say that again when he has another concussion. Tell me how you really feel.

You know, it gets me there. We watch this man stumble off the field on a Sunday, stumble. He couldn't even stand up. And they had the audacity to look us in the face and say he's available to play on a Thursday.

And then we watch him sitting there catatonic with his hands in the air. And where is the player representation on this? You know, where is their well for all of the board? Well, there is a end up in the NFL does have a doctor's excuse me, physicians, a society. There are multiple physicians who are all out there on the field to ensure the safety of the players. But we know everything boils down to the dollars in the sense and for an entity like the NFL move into about 20 plus billion dollars a year.

Look, if it goes down, there'll be another guy ready to take his place. They just will eat the cash. I wish I could tell you that they they really, really cared.

They care about the money first. That's the part that's one more and one more thing. Let's not forget about Mr. Brown.

Antonio Brown. Oh, okay. Well, he had he had major life issues on his way into the NFL. And that has certainly continued on.

No, well, we can leave. You're right. He had issues before then. I don't think that involved physical trauma.

I think it's mental trauma and some of the physical trauma didn't help. Hey, Brian, thank you for calling from Dallas. All the best. Thank you, Brian. 855-212-4227.

It's 855-212-4227. We got Don from Wisconsin. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. Hey, JR. I just I'm sorry, brother.

You're so serious all the time. And then you brought up the thing about the great gazoo. Oh, listen, you know what?

He wore that big ass green helmet. Come on. I love Flintstones or something. Yeah. Young guy with Fred Flintstone. Yeah. Barney Rubble. Wilma.

Yeah. You like you like Wilma, didn't you? I know you did. I kind of did the legs.

So actually, the other one that Fred no, but yep, Barney, Fred, Wilma and Bernie. Yeah, you like that. You like that bone she had in her hair. You loved it. But anyway, go ahead, Don.

Go ahead. Point being, you know, I was sick to my stomach, 28 to nothing. And I told one of my friends, I said, the Packers are playing the Vikings. They haven't lost the game. We're going to learn a lot from this game. And I did. I learned a ton. 28 to nothing. Any other team that took their first things is that get out of here.

Second thing, go on and have some training. No, I could not believe it, JR. That told me that told me a ton. Well, Jordan, Jordan Love just came back. You got to give him some time. Yeah, well, he shouldn't even been put in.

Actually, I was sick with the second string because you don't take a cog out of a machine when it's working well, you know what I mean? But I would have been the Minnesota Vikings will already lighten everybody up. Jordan Love was finally healthy. I think it was a great rally and cry and a great start to have Jordan Love back. And like you said, they almost fought their way back into winning the game. I think all things considered, yeah, yeah, 31-29.

When we get to the end of the season, I don't think too many people would be shocked if the Green Bay Packers overtook the Vikings and if Sam Donald ended up turning into a pumpkin. We got to find out. That's the good part, Don. That's why you're smart. You're a smart guy.

You don't go by who's right. You as well, Don, to stay away from Wilma or Betty. 855-212-4227. Mike is calling from Baltimore. You're on the JR sport show. What's up, Mike? Hey, my man, JR. How you doing, buddy? I'm excellent.

How are you? I'm bummed out, man. The Orioles really let me down today. I'm kind of discouraged, man, because when they went up against a good pitcher, but when they go on these hitting folks, man, they just they can't play small ball. They depend on the home run too much. And I just want to see them don't end the mark.

I really do. This is what happens when you have a young team. You had young bats out there. That's just it. Right, right. You saw you bring in Burns and this guy basically almost pitched a shutout. You can't ask for anything else from him.

Exactly. He pitched well, but we just the bats were dormant. So I hope we can pull it out tomorrow. If not, then I'm just going to be riding my hopes on King Henry and the Ravens the rest of the year. Oh, wow.

He'll have another one hundred and ninety nine yards for everybody. Thank you for calling from Baltimore. Thank you. You as well. Be well. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.

Let's go from Baltimore to Idaho. Mike, you're on the JR sport reshow. How are you doing, JR?

Very well. Go ahead, Mike. Thank you, sir. I've been trying to get through for quite a while now. I've been listening to you for a while. Well, thank you. Good to have you. What's up?

Not much. First, I want to give a hats off to Hickey. I've been listening to him and Zagiel, but now I'm listening to you and him. Great. Well, he's awesome, too. So is that. Yes.

Yes, he is. So in reference to to your last caller, Brian from Dallas, I understand that he has. He wants his influence, he wants to tell him to retire. But the thing that goes in my head is, is it really our call?

You know, if you're born into football, you love football. I think the call should come from him and his family, because we all know the NFL is going to want the best for the NFL. Well, if we go back to last year and to have said this to us, said this over the past year, that, A, he contemplated retirement last offseason, that B, his mom was one of those real driving factors for him to retire. And I can imagine that after having now suffered another concussion with the possibility of another one to come, that this is continue to this is going to continue to be a choice that he's going to have to make.

Look, if it wasn't a fifty five million dollar choice, I don't think it'd be that that difficult of one. You know, correct. You are correct, sir. Well, Mike, thank you for calling from Idaho. You're welcome. And I appreciate you guys hanging in there and take care. You as well.

Derek from Sacramento, let's talk to you. Go ahead. JR, what's good, man? I'm good. Go ahead.

Go ahead. Hey, man, I just wanted to talk about the NBA upcoming season real quick. I'm just wondering what you think of the West. Who's the big players in the West? And, you know, I'm calling from Sacramento.

I got to know. What do you think about them? Sacramento King? I think the Sacramento Kings are too small. I don't think they're athletic enough. They can certainly go out and light it up.

I don't think they're going to stop anybody. And if I got to think about the West, I mean, I think the West, you look at the the Thunder. I think they're the young team.

They got size, relatively speaking. I do think that they have too many guards playing. But you have Chet Holmgren, Shay Gilgus, Alexander isn't the smallest dude. And so I would expect the Thunder to take another step this year. You know, everyone talks about the Kings defense, but man, they finished top 15 defense last year. And I understand they're small, and I understand that they're offense is big. Derek, top 15 defense ain't squat diddly. It's half the league. Hey, it is for the Kings, bro. Okay, well, that ain't good enough. As much as I love De'Aaron Fox, he's not big enough. And then you have some bonus bonus is not you ain't feeding him the ball to be a killer.

He's more of a facilitator, Derek. So we'll see what they can do over time. Over under 45 win. I don't know, man. They'll probably go over and go to the playoffs and probably get eliminated. Maybe they get to the second round.

They got to switch up the roster, bro. Okay, I'm gonna call you. I'm gonna call back, please. I'll be here. Thank you, Derek.

I appreciate it. No doubt about it. I'll be here whether they want to lose. And if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. If I'm right, I'm right. But them Kings ain't winning no championship, not this team.

That much I'd put money on. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we'll have a conversation, a chat with Jared Dubin. CBS Sports Writer covers all things NFL.

Don't move. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. A De'Vante Adams situation. Who knows what's going on with Christian McCaffrey, both of his legs.

We got Von Miller with the return of Tua. To talk about it all, joining us right now is CBS Sports Writer covers all things NFL. It's Jared Dubin. Jared, thank you for the time.

Thanks for having me. Absolutely. We all learned about De'Vante being open to being moved on from the Raiders. We heard that the Raiders would prefer a second pick. There's a lot that boils down to salary and what have you, which will determine what will happen.

What are your thoughts? Is De'Vante going to get moved? Are we going to have to wait until the deadline?

Who are some potential teams? Well, I think we wouldn't be hearing about it this openly if it wasn't something that was kind of in the work and probably going to happen. That doesn't mean it'll definitely happen. The Raiders can change their mind.

De'Vante could change his mind. They might not get the kind of offers that they're looking for on the market. You know, a few years ago when Christian McCaffrey was getting traded, the Panthers put out there that they wanted multiple first round picks. And I believe they ended up trading him for a second, third, and fourth. So the idea that the Raiders are going to get a second for a guy who, you know, this year makes like 16 million and then has base salaries of 35 and 36 million over the next couple of years, doesn't necessarily seem that likely to me. But if the price, even if the price is there, there are so many teams that could use a wide receiver right now. Like the Chiefs desperately need a wide receiver. You would think that the Raiders would try to charge them a premium, but there are other teams out there, you know, Washington or the Steelers or the Cowboys.

And these are just off the top of my head. Like there are so many teams that could use wide receiver help right now. Jared Dubin is joining us here from CBS Sports. Where do you think he's going to end up? What do you think is going to happen? Man, I mean, I hope he ends up in Kansas City just because that would be so much fun.

So the idea of it actually happening seems a little bit far fetched to me. You know, Washington, Pittsburgh, those teams were going after Brandon Iuc this off season. So they seem like the most likely suitors just because we've seen that they're extremely motivated to get themselves another receiver. And if it's those two, I hope it's Washington because what Jayden Daniels is already doing, dropped, dropped Devante Adams into that mix with Terry McLaurin. And then we'll be cooking with gas right there. You talk about Jayden.

How far do you think he can take this? I mean, he can't throw at an 80 percent completion rate the rest of the season. But is it realistic in your mind that that maybe the commanders can compete for the division? I mean, I think so, just because it doesn't look like anybody in that division is all that good.

You know, like. Those Dallas or. Billy or the Giants carry you at all, none of them scare me if I'm if I'm Washington, I mean, I think that their defense is going to have to step up, but that's really it. You know, it's not like there's any team in that division that should run away with things, you know?

Well, let's talk about another big story that happened today. Unfortunately, Von Miller, this man is going to be out for the next four games. We see that this is a Buffalo Bills defense that had to deal with injuries and turnover from last year into this season. What are your thoughts on how they're going to continue to survive when Von Miller started to look like a guy from a few years ago?

Yeah, I mean, it's basically, you know, Sean McDermott scheming things up, which is kind of how it's been for them early this season to begin with. You know, they've been without, obviously, Matt Milano for the entire season. They've been without both Tarell Bernard and Russell Douglas for the last couple of weeks, too. And they lost, you know, both of their starting safeties from the last few seasons in free agency. They lost for Davis White in free agency like this is not the Bills defense that we've gotten used to over the last several years.

And with the exception of Sunday night against the Ravens, where, you know, Derek Henry and Lamar Jackson just sort of ran roughshod over them, that defense has played really well this year. And, you know, I think that they can continue to play pretty well. It's just a matter of, you know, can they reach the sort of ceiling that they reached in the first few weeks of the season?

Jared Dubin joining us from CBS Sports. If we stay in the AFC East, we just had a big old conversation here on the air about Tua Tonga Veloa, his eligibility to return in week eight. Do you think the Dolphins will be too far gone then? It will even make sense to bring Tua back at that point?

Man, I mean, they're one and three right now. It does not look like they can move the ball on really any level with anybody other than Tua under center. None of the three guys that they put out there behind him have thrown either a touchdown or an interception yet, which is pretty strange, honestly, to go three games or two and a half, I guess, games seeing that from a, you know, a quarterback room in the NFL. But their run game is not even working right now, which has been the one thing that's been sort of the saving grace for them over the last couple of years is they had an elite run game.

But even at the start of the year, I think when Tua was playing, it wasn't really working all that well to begin with. Devon Aichan is down at, you know, like 3.1 yards per carry or something along those lines. Maybe Rahim Mostert getting back gets them into that little bit of a run game. But the way they're playing offense right now and the defense is not really doing them any favors either. It's sort of hard to see them performing all that well in this sort of interim of time before Tua gets back. You talk about injuries. Let's go over to the NFC. People are just waiting to see what's the deal with Christian McCaffrey on one day. It's now both legs and you talk to one of his teammates, Trent Williams. He's he's doing better and he's doing fine. What's the deal? What's the latest? Are we going to see him? Is it going to be late this year?

Man, I wish I knew. You know, it's obviously a pretty strange situation. There was even a report, I think it was yesterday, that he has the Achilles tendonitis in both legs, which I mean, I've dealt with Achilles tendonitis before. It's not necessarily painful, but it's extremely annoying. Obviously, I am not a world-class professional athlete, but just the annoyance of it and how it feels on the bottom of your leg.

I can imagine it's annoying even for someone who is a world-class professional athlete, but that's the kind of thing where, you know, you may leave yourself more susceptible to a tear and obviously that's not something that anybody wants to deal with. And the 49ers do have the ability to sort of make up the ground without him. Jordan Mason, I believe, is second in the league in rushing yards. You know, Deebo Samuel obviously still there.

George Kittle. Juwan Jennings is playing like one of the best receivers in the league over the last couple weeks, and they haven't even gotten Brandon Aiyuk going yet. So, you know, they can afford to sort of slow roll this thing and just try to hope that he's healthy for the postseason. Yeah, the expectation for the 49ers was that they'd go out there and compete for another Super Bowl. The Dallas Cowboys, not so much, and they already have injuries now. Demarcus Lawrence, Michael Parsons, what are your thoughts on what this Cowboys season is going to look like? There was no real enthusiasm to start, and now we're going through the year with these injuries.

What is this going to look like for the Cowboys and potentially Mike McCarthy? Yeah, it's not a good situation because their defense, which was already not playing particularly well, now lost, you know, either the two best players on the unit or the second and third best players, depending on how you want to account for Demarcus Lawrence and Trevon Diggs. And the idea that they're going to get stops, like the defensive line was already getting rolled over.

Now, you know, no tank, no mica, like I really don't know what they're going to do. And it's basically all on the offense to outscore teams. And that offense just has not been as explosive this year as it has been in years past. And like, can you even go outscore teams when it's basically your skill position group is like just C.D.

Lamb? I don't know, it's going to be really tough for them over the next few weeks, and the schedule doesn't do them any favors. You know, they got Pittsburgh defense to deal with this week, and then the next up is the Lions. It's not a good situation for them right now. I mean, I don't think this whole year is looking good for the Dallas Cowboys, but when you think about Mike McCarthy, Doug Peterson is not looking good in Jacksonville.

Nick Sirianni is catching all the strays in Philadelphia right now. What coach, not that I think these three, maybe Doug, is going to get the boot in the season, which coach is not looking good for next season? For next season, I mean, it would take something pretty shocking at this point to see the Jaguars coaching staff come back, right? Like, man, that looks like a disaster out there right now.

That would be my first guess. After that, I guess it would be Sirianni. I thought that Mike McCarthy and his staff should not have come back this season, but Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, they hate nothing more than admitting that they got something wrong.

So I would expect that they would again not admit that they got something wrong before they actually made a change as coach. Oh boy, Jared Dubin joining us from CBS Sports. If we go further north up into Minnesota, we see that Sam Donald, I never thought I'd hear this, I heard it somewhere, the word MVP, the letters MVP associated with Sam Donald. Is this man going to turn into a pumpkin at the end of the year? Is the carriage going to turn into a pumpkin with Sam Donald?

I don't know about a pumpkin. You know, I don't know that I'd necessarily expect him to play at an MVP level either, but the good thing is he has an infrastructure that we've seen has led to success for quarterbacks. I mean, Kirk Cousins had the best years of his career playing for Kevin O'Connell there. And we saw even last year when Cousins was out, like Josh Dobbs and Nick Mullins perform at a pretty decent level.

Donald has always had talent. It's been a matter of his decision-making and inability to withstand pressure. And the way that this offense works, it schemes easy answers for quarterbacks.

Once you get those easy answers, then you need to have a little bit more confidence in what you're doing outside the structure of the offense. And I think that's what we've seen from him so far. And that's how you get the sort of results that we've seen.

I hear that, Jared. Well, the way things are rolling right now with some of these injuries, Rashee Rice going down, Aaron Rodgers says his relationship with Salah is great. The 49ers are dealing with injuries. We got Sam Donald looking like one of the best QBs in the game. We got two out.

There's so much that has taken place here in the league. What team do you think is going to be able to just if they continue rolling, going to be at the top of the heap when we get to the championship games? I know a long way out, but who's looking real good? Yeah, I mean, I don't know how necessarily good they're looking, but I'm never going to bet against Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes to be at the top at the end. But I've learned my lesson not taking the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl in our picks at CBS.

And I'm just never going to do that again. I'm just going to take them every year until someone proves to me that they're better than Mahomes or better than Reid. I'll just go with them because I feel like that's the most likely thing, even though they kind of look like they're in trouble right now.

Hey, listen, you mentioned it earlier on in our conversation. What is the likelihood that the Raiders would move Devontae Adams to the Chiefs? Well, the Raiders are stupid. You know, they'll end up doing something silly and the Chiefs will win another championship. And Antonio Pierce will like that on Instagram.

Problem solved. Oh, my gosh. You know, you see something new every day in this league. Jared, I cannot wait for Antonio Pierce's explanation slash lie slash I don't care. I can't wait for that. I can't wait. It's going to be something to see for sure.

What's it? It's Tuesday, so we'll see that at the press conference tomorrow. Should be quite interesting. Always something interesting with the Raiders. Jared, thank you for the time.

Where can people follow you and find your work? Thanks for having me. It's CBSSports.com in the NFL section. And then if you still want to subject yourself to my horrible takes on anything other than football, then that's on the Twitter is J.A.

Dubin five. Hey, Jared, thank you so much. Enjoy the rest of the season. We'll talk soon.

Sounds great. Thanks for having me. Have a good night.

You as well. That Jared Dubin from CBS Sports. You're locked into the J.R. sport re-show here on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break. We're going to take you a walk through or we're going to walk through a few things that took place this day in sports history. We're going to wrap everything up. You are listening to the J.R. sport brief. Yeah, if you're looking at me, you're a creep. A lot of windows in the studio, but you're really creepy. You're listening to me.

I appreciate that. It is the J.R. sport re-show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Hey, congratulations to the teams that are trying to move ahead to the divisional round of the postseason.

You just heard the wrap up from Peter Schwartz. The Tigers beat the Astros three to one. The Royals beat the Orioles one to nothing. The Mets beat the Brewers eight to four. And right now the Padres have a three to nothing lead against the Atlanta Braves.

Let's see who gets knocked the hell out tomorrow. Tomorrow is the future. It's the end of the show. This is something I do at the end of every show. I go back in time. It's already October 1st.

Yeah. Pull your cobwebs out and the spiders and hang them up in your house and put the skeletons in the front yard. Figure out what you want to dress your kid up as do all of that. Or maybe you want to dress up. Maybe it's just a freak. Maybe you dress up every day.

That's none of my business. But we're going back in time, not the Halloween. It's a few things that took place this day in sports history.

October 1st. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history. You see, back in those days we had radio and you couldn't see anything.

And it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. Yeah. This day, October 1st. It's 2024.

Let's go back to 1961. Hmm. Some guy named Roger Maris hit.

Hmm. Sixty one and 61. He passed Babe Ruth. Most home runs all time in a single season as the Yankees beat the Red Sox one to nothing.

Take a listen to this. Here's the windup. Fastball hit. Another standing ovation for Roger Maris. Sixty one home runs and they're still fighting for that ball out there.

People are climbing over each other's back. Yeah, of course, everybody wanted the ball. Hey, some guy named Aaron Judge. He had 62 home runs in 2022. That's the new American League record.

There you have it. Also on this day, October 1st. Let's go to 1975 because it was the thriller in Manila. This is the last of the three fights between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Well, damn it, they went 14 rounds.

Muhammad Ali walked out to Victor and Joe Frazier after the fight. He was able to speak and he says, man, I hope you all got your money's worth. I hope that you guys enjoy the fight. It was a heck of a fight.

It was hot. I thought that my man fought a good fight. I guess we'll be meeting each other sometime again. I hope anyway. But when you see him and I, it always be a fight. That's the problem.

Yeah, that was the last one. Muhammad Ali always the showman. He says, Joe Frazier actually praised him for once.

Listen to this. He's greater than I thought he was. He's great when I say great.

His style is a style that only he can be successful with. I think he fought a good fight. It was close. And then the last round it was close. Couldn't win either way I heard. And it was my rally to pull it out. And the constant pounding that finally took effect.

But he is great. I'm so tired. I don't want to do nothing.

I want to rest for one week. Man, fighting for 14 rounds. I'm glad they don't do that no more. And God bless both of their souls.

God rest their souls. OK, let's go to October 1st, 1999. Speaking of fights, remember Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen actually played on the same team? They won the Rockets and then Scottie got sent to Portland. Charles Barkley decided to resign with Houston.

And let's just say on the NBA today, they had a little bit of a beef. Listen, I gave up more than anybody to get Scottie and for him to want to leave after one year, just disappointed me greatly. I wouldn't get Charles Barkley an apology at gunpoint, so he could never expect an apology from me. If anything, he owed me an apology for coming to play with his sorry fat butt.

Scottie gets his wish. He's a very selfish guy. He doesn't show me the desire to want to win. And that's my reason for wanting to get away from playing with him anymore because he don't show the dedication.

And I probably should have listened to Michael a year ago when he said that Charles never will win a championship because he doesn't show any dedication. Damn. And the Scottie Pimmelang, anybody know he took him 25 years later, 20 years later, he's killing Michael Jordan. And I was kissing his ass again. Somebody check on Scottie.

Somebody check on. He don't like nobody. Charles Barkley. I know he just doesn't care that much. I do know. Anyway, that was 1999.

I hope Scottie Pippen is done beefing with people. Oh, October 1st, 2004. Ichiro Suzuki set the single season hit record. He hit number 258 in Seattle beat Texas, 8-3.

Listen to this. And Ichiro giving a standing ovation as he steps up dead even with George Sisler. And a ground ball back at the middle. And there it is. He's a new all-time hip king in major league history.

Number 258. My oh my. Ichiro Suzuki finished the season with 262 hits.

Damn. Let me tell you something. When Ichiro was rolling, there was nobody stopping Ichiro. He used to do all them funky stretches. He used to hit that ball.

And that was a bad dude. Ichiro, man, he could have played until he was 70, if he wanted to. One hit a year. The way baseball is right now, Ichiro could still play. Anyway, yeah, those were a few things that took place this day in sports history.

Quite appropriate that we spoke to Brett Boone, one of Ichiro's teammates. Beautiful. Shout out to everybody up in Seattle, Washington. Speaking of Washington, as I get ready to roll out of here, this is some wild news that we learned earlier today. I'm getting ready to leave, but we got the official word that Gonzaga is leaving for the Pac-12.

Listen to this. This was a CBS Sports HQ report from earlier today. Breaking news, we're continuing to monitor in the world of college sports. Basketball powerhouse Gonzaga is leaving the West Coast Conference to join the Pac-12.

That's the latest from our Matt Norlander. The move will be happen in all sports on July 1st, 2026. The Zags are a consistent national contender in men's basketball and have dominated the WCC over the past decade plus. They won 21 conference tournament titles, including 10 in the past 12, and they made the tournament final in 27 straight seasons. As for the Pac-12, this would bring them to eight members total, but only seven for football because the Gonzaga does not have a football program. I like how you said, oh, Gonzaga's moving for all sports and it's just like, all sport like that. What else does anybody care about? Baseball, I guess, something?

I don't know. A little basketball comes down to Gonzaga. It ain't got no football. Now the Pac-12, this is their eighth team, so they're going to be around much longer than 2026. They now have Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, Utah State, Colorado State.

In the Mountain West, what do they do? They got UTEP. Congratulations.

And now they need another team to be valid themselves. The shell game just continues on. It just, I can't keep up. Can't keep up.

Hmm. Picky, can you keep up? I can't keep up anymore or less. No, I actually missed that the Pac-12 added, I guess what would be a seventh team. I missed that. I saw the six right when you had the big announcement.

I saw it today with Gonzaga. I didn't know in between there was a seventh team added. So no, I'm trying to keep up and still, it feels like my head just spinning. Yeah, it's too much going on, man. Anyway, good for them.

No longer the Pac-12, eight is better than two, right? Something like that. I will concede that part of it. Congratulations to them. I'll be staying tuned. Man, what a show.

What a fun, well, Picky, this was a fun show, except for talking about Von Miller. Yes, I would agree with that. That is sad. Very sad.

It's very sad. Well, he'll be gone for four games and Buffalo Bills will go out there and figure it out. We'll see what happens with Tuatanga Valoa and when he will return, if he will return this season. I think it's something to think about. If the Dolphins are really deep down in the hole, why bring Tuatanga Valoa back?

I don't know. We talked about Devante Adams and his potential trade, where he could go, where he might go. We had a great conversation with a Mariners legend, played with Ichiro, who we just talked about. Brett Boone came through to talk to us about Pete Rose and his experiences with the family and his experiences to his dad and the current state of baseball. His brother, Aaron, obviously managed, excuse me, manages the New York Yankees. We talked about the Vikings.

Man, we went through it all. And if you missed a minute of the show, you can go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. Thank you so much to Jared Dubin from CBS Sports for joining us as well.

If you want to hear the interview with Jared or Brett Boone, hit rewind on the free Odyssey app and you don't miss a minute or a second. The JR Sport Reshow will be back here with you tomorrow at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. Of course, it's Wednesday.

You know what the hell I do every Wednesday? I bring you a new top six list. Tomorrow will be no different. There's a lot going on in the NFL. The NBA is getting ready to wind up. We got the baseball playoffs. I got you covered. You've been listening to the JR Sport Reshow on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much to Connor.

Thank you so much to super producer and host Ryan Hickey. Y'all be smooth. Be cool. Be well. Be safe. Don't move. Don't go anywhere. Bart Winkler is coming up next, but me? I'm gone. Thank you, Hickey.
