It is the JR Sportbree Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody listening all over North America. Yeah, what's up specifically to everybody and even my friends in Canada. I love y'all.
I'm going to be rolling with you for one more hour. This show gets started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'm being joined by our super producer and host, Ryan Hickey. He's in New York City. So whether you happen to be in New York or Georgia or the West Coast, Canada, we appreciate you.
Thank you so much. And we've had a fun show so far. Thank you to our guests. Last hour, Pete Bursage used to play linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings. Now they're radio analysts. He came through to talk about the Vikings and their amazing 3-0 start led by Sam Darnold. And as we continue on with the show, we have more to do because as week three of the NFL season is coming to a close, we have a doubleheader.
One of the games, kind of close. Washington currently leads the Bengals 14 to 7. They're in the second quarter, about 10 minutes to go in the first half, and they got time. Meanwhile, oh my God, there is not enough time in the world for the Jaguars.
A complete annihilation. The Buffalo Bills and Buffalo lead the Jags 34 to 3. The Buffalo Bills have scored a touchdown on every single possession. Doug Peterson, the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is standing on the sideline like he is being held hostage. He's standing there like he knows his ass one day sooner than later is about to get fired, like he's going to get the boot.
He looks shocked. And Trevor Lawrence, we were saying this before the game started, Trevor Lawrence has never had an expression on his face outside of, I don't know, confused that he's a football player. I don't know what you even say in the huddle after this. Jacksonville Jaguars, they show the graphic. They have only had five first downs here in the first half of the game.
Five. I know we talked about what the hell we got two Monday night football games for. At least one of them is a backup plan, I guess. We'll see what happens here with the Bengals if they can come back plenty of time with Washington. Washington leading 14 to 7. Hickey, I got to be honest, I thought this game between Jacksonville and the Bills, I thought it would be close. I mean, who expects nobody, even in a bad game with a great team and a bad one, you don't expect 34 to 3. This is college, man.
This is college stuff. Not only do you not expect it just because of the matchup, like you said, it's the NFL, these guys are grown men, they get paid. But especially when you look at what's on the line for Jacksonville in this game, you're 0-2. You could argue the season is already over.
But you go to 0-3, you're toast. And so you would assume after how they played so far through the first two weeks, they're going to come out desperate, they're desperate, they're going to come out with a playoff mindset. And you would assume, get off to a good start, put the pressure on the Bills, maybe the Bills coming off of their win over the Dolphins last week, maybe feel themselves a little bit.
They come out a little slower out of the gates than maybe they normally otherwise would. And that just the desperate Jaguars would play like their seasons on the line. And watching this game, you would think that the Bills were the team that we're owing to, that we're desperate as could be to get a win here. And I mean, honestly, it looks like the Jaguars are already counting down to the offseason. Can you say they quit the first half because it feels like they quit in the first half?
Yeah, no, they didn't give a damn. I mean, we were really joking about it, but maybe it was nothing to joke about. Trevor Lawrence, and we get it, there's not a one size fits all. There's a lot of guys who are all, you know, noise and rah rah rah, but they don't necessarily come with the substance. Like Trevor Lawrence just looked disinterested coming out of the tunnel. Like he's just standing there, his hands and his, you know, shoulder pads. And he's just like, what am I doing here? Like, I want to know what, what is this going to sound like at halftime? Nothing. Like there's not a damn thing Doug Peterson can go ahead and tell the squad. And then if the game continues on like this, am I expecting, you know, the Bills to put up another 30 plus on the other side of the half? I don't think so. But what do you, what do you do on the plane ride?
You get on the plane and you got to go back to Jacksonville, flying up from Western New York. Like there's, there's nothing fun about this. The Jags are cooked. They are massive disappointment for any type of the expectations. You were looking forward to a healthy Trevor Lawrence, maybe helping to turn things around here this season.
Not, not the case at all. Just an embarrassment, 34 to three. Monday night football. This is the best. This is the best that you can come up with.
It's terrible. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. We'll, we'll keep you up to date as we continue on here. Meanwhile, in Cincinnati, the Bengals are down.
This might be another type of disappointment. Washington leads them 14 to seven in the second quarter. And it looks like, Hickey, was that a, was that a lineman that went down? That was, was that the left tackle for, for the Bengals? It looked to be Trent Brown.
Oh boy. Who was down and looked to be grabbing his right knee. I did not see what happened, but a bigger man holding a knee, never good. Not, not good. Not good for the Bengals who are trying to avoid an 0-3. Can you imagine the Cincinnati Bengals starting the season at 0-3 with Justin Burrow? That would be problematic. That would be against the commanders and against the Patriots to what most people think are supposed to be two of the worst teams in the league. They're two of your first three games and you lose to both teams at home?
I mean, that may, that could, if they lose this game, that could one up what the Jaguars are doing right now. You think it's, well, Joe Burrow is going to have to switch his hair back, right? Oh yeah. You got to come in with a shaved head on Wednesday. No doubt.
You cannot wear those blonde locks anymore. You're a hundred percent right about that. Well, when you think about the Bengals and what's left, and granted they're not done. They could certainly still win this game.
It's not the ass whooping that we're watching on the, on the Jacksonville side. 14 to seven is the, is the current score. If you think about the Cincinnati Bengals and what the rest of their season looks like moving forward, the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to play everybody tough. They have to get into it with the Ravens. I think eventually, of course, the Ravens will go on a streak there after beating the Dallas Cowboys. So I don't think you have to worry about them, but what are the Bengals doing? Let's see.
Okay. They got, they got, they got a, well, they got Carolina coming up next. You know, Andy Dalton might do something. Baltimore, we know is not going to be easy. The New York giants may shock you or maybe not. They have Cleveland, so it should take care of them. They have Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Baltimore, the Chargers again, Philadelphia, Dallas, Tennessee. Yeah. The schedule is okay for Cincinnati.
Uh, but, but not the way that you want to go ahead and start. And Joe burrow has been elevated so much as like the franchise quarterback and go into the super bowl. No, it's not all his fault. But when you have one of the best of the best, you know, people expect the results that are there. And this is, what's also disappointing about what we have so far to start the year.
And I don't know when things come to a head for anybody. These quarterbacks are making so much damn money. Now I get it.
It's a part of the cap, but at what point is it? We're paying Trevor Lawrence how much to do what we're giving him $55 million a year, but we don't have an offensive line for him. We got to fire the coach. Trevor, you know what I mean?
You know what I mean? And we got to fire the coach. Trevor Lawrence is the fifth highest paid quarterback in the game. Dak Prescott is making 60 mill a year.
This is why picky let's, let's think about this. Dak Prescott is making 60. What do you expect from the Cowboys this year? Missed the playoffs. Damn. Joe Burrow is making 55.
He's trying to avoid an 0-3 start. I don't think the Bengals are AFC contenders. How do you feel about it? I do. I'm still high in the Bengals.
I liked a lot of what I saw yesterday, last week I should say. I'm still high in them despite this slow start. I still think they can make a run here in the playoffs.
I'm not high on them. Jordan Love making 55 million bucks, currently not playing with that knee injury. Hopefully he'll be back on, on Sunday against Minnesota. Trevor Lawrence is making $55 million a year as well. 0-3 here, or about to be 0-3, terribly. The Jacksonville Jaguars. Tua Tonga Veloa is making $53 million a year. Tua Tonga Veloa is on injured reserve.
We're not seeing this man. Jared Goff is making 53 mill. At least he's playing. Justin Herbert is making 52.
Justin Herbert is dealing with a high ankle. And then we start moving into Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts and Kyler Murray and Deshaun Watson. It's the salaries for the QBs. I just, I don't want to say it's ridiculous, but when you have so much money invested in a quarterback, do you, I guess you had no choice. Like if you're Miami, you had no choice but to pay Tua. And everybody's correct.
Tua Tonga Veloa set it himself in the offseason before he got the deal done. The market is the market. The market is the market.
Well, bruh, you done been concussed so many times that you can't play right now. Nobody has confidence in you. Nobody looks at Tua and goes, he's going to take them to the Super Bowl. A lot of things have to go right.
I just, there has to be a breaking point at some point where it's just like, no, I'll give you a two or three year deal and then we can revisit it. But I'm not, I'm not locking you in for four years because these teams are so handicapped and handcuffed as to what they can actually do to compete. Like the Jacksonville Jaguars, what are they doing? Giving Trevor Lawrence all this money, how are they going to get better? They can't. You think about Tua Tonga Veloa and the Dolphins, what can they do to get better? They can't. Until the salary cap rises a whole lot, you're screwed.
You're cooked. The Miami Dolphins, I don't want to say they're in football purgatory, but even when Tua comes back, it sucks. But let's be realistic, is it not just a matter of when? Like Hickey, if you're a Dolphins fan, don't you look at this and just, what is there to feel positive about? Tua comes back and then you wonder, oh, when does he get hit next? Whether it's this year or next year, it's hard to feel confident about him. And then even before he went out last Thursday night, I mean, look how he played against the Bills.
And that's another problem. It's not just the injuries for him. It's how he plays against the best teams on their schedule. Last year, the Dolphins went one and six and the seven playoff teams they played, that offense crapped the bed so far in the first three quarters they played against Buffalo before Tua got hurt. So it's like, the question is when will Tua stay on the field? Next question is how long will he remain on the field? Then after those two questions are answered, then it's, well, how will you play against the best teams?
And so you paid a guy all that money where you have three massive questions hanging over his head that you don't feel good about whatsoever. I mean, a lot of us called it a mistake when it happened. Unfortunately, it did not take long to be proven right, it looks like, but that, like you said, it's a team at some point soon here has to say, no, we can't do that. It's not worth it for us to make this guy the highest paid and we'll go with the alternative, which is, you know, kind of the Vikings did it. I know it's a little different Kirk Cousins being older, but they said, we're not paying you, you know, $55 million a year. We're going to go draft quarterback. We'll bring Sam Darlin as a placeholder so far. It looks pretty good for Minnesota.
Yeah. This current crop of QBs and the salaries that they got, these guys might be outliers. They might have literally hit the jackpot at the right time because it's hard to think about what the next generation will look like. And we still have to see some of these newer guys.
We don't know. Is Bryce Young going to get a chance or an opportunity? Probably not given what we've seen, but when you look at a Caleb Williams or you look at a Jayden Daniels, the new guys who are incoming, JJ McCarthy, whatever he looks like next year, we don't even know where Sam Darnold is going to be next year or what the rest of this year looks like. So it's still so early, but this current crop of QBs that all just got paid these new deals over the past, I'd say two years, maybe calendar year. Everybody from Lamar Jackson getting that big old deal on draft day last year. Jalen Hurts is sitting in that 50 range. Deshaun Watson got all his money guaranteed. Dak is making 60. You would assume that Brock Purdy, if he can stay healthy, I know he's dealing with a back issue. He had his MRI today.
They said it was clean, but his back is now sore. You would think that that Purdy is going to make approximately 60 a year. I mean, after that, whoever's getting paid next, the next generation, our team's going to look at this and just go, oh yeah, well, he's good and we have to extend him. So boom, here's automatically 50 and 60 mil. I'm not so sure. Not for the length of time.
These deals are nuts and you're screwed. You're cooked. Dak is the highest paid. He ain't winning nothing. Joe Burrow, I'm not as high as them on hickey.
I think they'll be okay, but not no winning team. Jordan Love, we got to wait for him to return. Trevor Lawrence is cooked for the season. Tua is cooked for the year, not officially. Jared Goff is making 53.
Herbert, what do we expect from the Chargers? They're pretty much rebuilding and he's also hurt. It's just the justification is not there. Or we just live in a world where just all athletes are making a crap ton of money because it's there. I mean, if we look at the NBA, it still is mind boggling to me.
You got to just be all in or not in at all. Joel Embiid got himself a contract extension from the 76ers. They are locking this dude in. Five years total, $300 million. Joel Embiid is going to be under contract through 2028, 2029. That's five more years. What the hell is Joel Embiid's body going to look like at 35? We've seen what his body has looked like at 20 and 30.
He played 39 games last year. I guess the money is there. You got to pay him and you just got no choice.
You just got to pay the dues. But for the quarterback to be stuck and be mediocre? No thanks.
No thanks. Maybe the New York Jets are in a better position than what we all thought. Oh my God, what a picky. Did you see that pass by Daniels? That was about a 50 that was about a 50 yarder. That thing was a beauty to Terry Mclaurin.
Maybe that's why he was, I don't know, maybe that basketball helps him out. That was a bomb. Dropped it right in the bucket. He did.
And now we, whoa, that was an amazing pass. Hey, I'm here for all the drama. I hope the Bengals lose tonight. Okay.
You know, I see anarchy and chaos in Jacksonville and Cincinnati. Yes, I do. Yeah. I just, and at this point, did Trevor Lawrence, did he get punched in the chest at halftime? He looks, did they give him some smelling salts or something? I mean, do you even bring him out?
Trevor Lawrence. 34 to 3, did he say pack it up, we'll see you next week? Uh, he doesn't play in the third quarter. No, excuse me.
He doesn't play in the fourth quarter. Okay. Okay. You'd bring him out now.
All right. You let him play. You want to pull the plug already?
I'm just saying it's 34 to 3. So you don't think there's no way to come back, be competitive. You have to let him, you got to give him a chance, right? Yeah.
You have to give him a chance. Yes. Yes. And I mean, the seasons, you go to 0 and 3, you're not saving them for anything.
So, you know, there's no real reason to pull them. Probably being dramatic there, but Mike, I mean, down third, down 31 points at halftime, just trying to think of how that comeback would even start. Holy cow. You just want to see Mac Jones out there, huh? Oh, I forgot. No, I don't.
I don't. And speaking of this, Washington has put up another score after that bomb. They're able to put the ball in the end zone. 21 to 10, Washington leads Cincinnati on the road. This is turning into a little bit of an embarrassment as well for the Bengals. I mean, outside of that, that bomb that Joe Burrow threw to Jamar Chase. Oh, not looking all that good in Cincinnati.
We'll see, you know, what they can do. About two minutes to go in the first half, Washington leads 21 to 10. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. You know, I mentioned Joel Embiid. This man's contract is kind of crazy that they're paying him that. Vince Carter is a legend in the NBA.
Vince Carter is going to have his jersey retired twice by two teams. I'll explain on the other side, talk about another coach in Florida who was saved from getting a boot. I don't know, Hickey, maybe these Florida coaches can have a support group. Doug Peterson, I think he might have somebody else getting fired pretty close by soon.
We'll talk about that on the other side. It's the JR Sport Reshow, the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. The Jacksonville Jaguars, they have a pulse. Trevor Lawrence throws a touchdown pass to Brenton Strange, 34 to 10. The Buffalo Bills lead the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meanwhile, the Bengals, they trail the commanders at home. The commanders lead 21 to 10 after Jayden Daniels rushes in for a touchdown after a big pass play. Right now, the Bengals are trying to put some points up on the board, less than a minute left here on the clock, trying to at least get into a field goal position. I don't know if they'll get there. We'll keep you up to date on both games as the night and the evening continues on.
8-5-5, 2-1-2, 42-27. I don't know, there's something about the coaches in Florida. Doug Peterson, certainly his ass is on the line this year if the Jags continue to look this awful and this terrible. And over the weekend on the college side, much has been said about Billy Napier. You know, you ain't that far of a drive going from Jacksonville going down to Orlando or Gainesville, I should say.
And it ain't too good. It took the Gators to take on Mississippi State to actually walk away with a victory. 45-28, Graham Mertz went out there and threw three touchdowns. The Gators are now 2-2 because if Billy Napier would have lost that game, they would have given him the boot because some of the losses that they have taken. Ass whoopings have just been, just been bad. I mean, losing to Texas A&M and losing to Miami 41-17 is just bad.
They got Central Florida up next. At least they got some time. They got a week off.
They'll be back in action on October 5th. And you tell me if this is someone happy to keep his job. Billy Napier spoke after the victory and he says, I'm relieved.
Listen to this. Man, it feels good to win a game. You know, no, I think we, we did enough to win today. I was really impressed with, I thought offensively we had some tempo about us. I thought we played well around the quarterback and I thought the quarterbacks did a really good job.
Hickey, you had a, you had a funny joke. You said maybe the coaches down in Florida, maybe they're sharing too much information together. Maybe that's the problem where Florida's going in the tank and sitting with the Jaguars and maybe Doug Peterson and Billy Napier are giving each other too much advice.
And right now that advice, it ain't working. That's for sure. Who gets fired first?
It has to be Napier. Just because, I mean, he was about to get fired. If they lost to Mississippi state, he would, he was right now. He'd be unemployed currently.
Yeah. He'd be on vacation. Well, he that's, I'd be, I'd like to be unemployed if they gave me $26 million to be fired.
Why not? You're right with what you said. He'd be on vacation. He's getting what? $26 million to not work.
Yeah. That's vacation. Sign me up. Fire me now.
26 million. Fire me now. I'd be gone. You think he's going to get the boot? Because that schedule is so difficult. They are going to, I mean, they're going to get, forget lose. They're going to get blown out in a few weeks here with one of these games, whether it's Georgia and you name it. So, and for Doug Peterson to get fired, like we were talking about maybe week 15, week 16, like, I mean, is there a scenario you can envision where he's fired in like three weeks? Doug Peterson? Yeah.
I can't see it. No, no. The Jaguars are enough of a joke, but they'd be even more of a joke if they just pulled the plug that, that early, like they don't have their buy. The Jags don't have their buy until closer to Thanksgiving. And so that might be the time. I know it's the holidays, but who cares?
He's getting a lot of money as well. That, that, that might be the time to pull the plug. If the Jaguars are going nowhere, which I mean, at the rate they're going right now, they are right now is they got, they got a 10 spot up on the board. I guess that's good.
And then these games, who's I, I'm still trying to figure out whose idea was this? These double headers. This is worse. Yeah. They're actually advertising right now. Perfect timing.
They're doing it again next week. Oh my God. Oh, this is, I mean, you know what?
Actually, this is what I'll say. Thank God we have a double header next week. The first one. You want to guess the matchup here?
I want to have you guess it's bad. Titans dolphins. Oh, are you kidding me?
Oh, I'm looking at it now. Oh my God. Seahawks lions is the other one. So you know what, if we had a Monday night football game, that was only one window and it was Titans dolphins. Who's watching that? I'm turning that off. Who's watching? Nobody's watching that.
That's brutal. At least the lions are good. I mean, this and the Seahawks are as average as average can be like, does anybody feel any way about the Seahawks anyway, like one way or the other?
No, it's a nice start. One of the few 3-0 teams. Look who they've beaten. Bone Knicks, the Patriots, and then yesterday beating a dolphins team that was on their third string quarterback. They beat nobody. Seahawks are just, do I even call them average? You know, I don't want to be rude, but I mean, even undefeated, but they're just, they're just a good team. They're average, averages, averages, average can be like when you have certain quarterbacks and I hate to say this, but when you have certain QBs, you just know that the whole team and where you go has a ceiling to it.
Like Geno Smith as the quarterback for the Seahawks. Nobody wakes up and says, Hey, we have a chance to win the Superbowl. You have a chance to be okay. You have a chance to go to the post season. And I know, Oh, you get into the tournament, anything can happen after that. Eh, not so much, not so much. That's, that's being, that's being too kind.
That's being too honest and it don't work that way. And see, nobody cares about the Seattle Seahawks. Let me know when the SuperSonics come back. That'll be a much more impressive.
8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. And speaking of basketball, Hey, I guess the Toronto Raptors felt bad and felt stupid after the Nets said that they're going to retire Vince Carter's number because the Toronto Raptors answered back and said, we're going to retire his Jersey before you get a chance to. And I'm just like, it's, it just made no sense to me, none whatsoever for Vince Carter to have his Jersey retired by New Jersey for what Brooklyn, New Jersey doesn't matter. What, what was the point of that? I mean, I hate to say marketing. It's a free sellout.
Otherwise wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You think the night that they retire Vince Carter's Jersey in the Barclay center where he never even played, he has no association with Brooklyn. Let me, if they were, if they were still in New Jersey, they wouldn't sell that out for Vince Carter's return. You think they're going to sell out that night with Vince Carter to retire his, like, why is this, are they going to hang his number up in a Barclay center? Yeah, of course. Right next to Jason Kidd.
Oh my God. Which I believe is Jason Kidd's number. I believe it's retired in the, in the logo, in the form of the old New Jersey Nets uniform, I think. Right. What did he wear? Five with the Nets?
To look that up, but I think so. Vince Carter's Jersey is going to hang in the Barclay center. I like, I like him personally. I like Vince Carter. Vince Carter probably doesn't even think his Jersey belongs up there.
Come on, man. Toronto, yes. He helped take the franchise to another place. Did they win a championship? No. Did he ask to leave?
Yes. Let's be real. The Raptors were, were an expansion franchise led by Mighty Mouse, Stoudemire. And they're just like, oh, there's Stoudemire. Oh, there's Marcus Camby.
Oh, they playing in a baseball stadium. But it wasn't until Vince Carter got there that you're like, oh, you got a killer. Like you got a shooting guard out there. Bald head like Jordan, super freaky athletic and slam dunk champions. One of the best dunkers the NBA's ever seen, arguably the best dunker the league has seen. He brought excitement to Toronto until he decided he wanted to leave.
Like don't hold that against the guy. He actually helped usher the franchise into, you know, being relevant and being good. And so that I get, but being traded to New Jersey, I couldn't tell you a Vince Carter highlight with the Nets outside of, I think, I think there's a dunk one time.
I think one time Jason Kidd threw him an alley-oop and I don't know. That's all I remember. Nothing else.
Just retired. Everybody's. Hickey, you said for marketing, are they giving away a, I don't even know if a Vince Carter bobblehead would sell out the Barclays Center, man. Damn. Otherwise I don't know why else you would do it. I just thought it was okay.
One free, try to get a sellout, you know, bring maybe some older Nets fans and maybe have not migrated to Brooklyn. Not been in a while. No. Bring them back a little.
No. From like 20 years. This is like 20 years ago. I'm just trying to think because you're, it makes no sense. It's very weird. I mean, even Vince Carter, we played the reaction video a few weeks ago when they surprised him and let him know they were tying his Jersey. His first reaction was literally quote, that's dope. That's insane. Sure.
He was just as shocked as everybody else. Is this real? Am I getting punked? Marco Balletti, do you think they're going to sell out the Barclays when, I can't even say when Vince Carter returns because he never played there. No. What does he do? What does he say? They give him the microphone. Hey Vince, thank you for being here 20 years ago for six seasons and we did what? What does Vince say? Thank you guys. Have a good night. Don't speak too loud. It's going to echo. But yeah, I mean, it's basically the big, the best part of the net franchise is those back-to-back NBA final losses.
So that, I think that's what they're honoring, which is again, this whole thing is just mediocrity. He wasn't even there. Was he there? Yeah, he was there.
He played in the finals. He wasn't there for any of that. That was after him. Yeah. They went up there.
They went in like, they went in 02 and 03. He didn't arrive until 04. Oh, he came right after that? Yes. Wow.
Yeah. He wasn't there. The Kittles and?
And Kenyon Martin and Todd McCollough and Kenyon, yeah. Richard Jefferson? I thought he was part of that group. Nope. Wow. Yeah, he wasn't there for no finals.
Nope. Look, and I heard what you said about the Raptors that I understand. I gotta be fair. Vince Carter, one thing, look, you're a hall of famer. We all know what you were, but one thing that you are when you're a mercenary and you play for every team in the league, you don't get that night.
That's sorry. None of these, you didn't stay long enough in any spot to deserve what a Jersey retirement is supposed to be. You're supposed to be immortalized for one franchise or possibly two if you play for a long time for both, forever. You don't get that because you left everywhere after two or three years. So I'm sorry. He shouldn't get it anywhere, nevermind in two different places.
No, I think Toronto, the cultural impact that he had in helping him out, there was still a baby of a franchise. I get it. I understand that. That part for kind of being the first. Are we retiring McGrady's number with him?
I struggle with this. No, it's not, no. So Vince Carter was the first star for the Raptors. Would you agree? Like, yes, they had Stodomar. Vince Stodomar, but yeah. Whatever.
Yeah. Vince Carter was the first star that helped take them to relevancy. He was also, I would say he was, for what he has done, the excitement, like Air Canada, the dunks, it was big, especially for a baby franchise. So he got them to the playoffs. I know he didn't have no success there. I think they might've won the first round, but for the significance in regards to the city and the team and helping to put Toronto basketball in and have it be relevant.
I think that's worthwhile. He was only there for what, six or seven seasons in Toronto, but he had a big impact there before he decided to leave. I mean, the logo, the dunk, the dinosaurs, just playing in the Air Canada center.
Like he brought life as their first star. I get it. Agree to disagree. I think it's almost like the Seahawks. That's the way I felt. Well, the error, what they achieved.
Yes. But for the significance for the franchise, it was a huge, him being there was huge. It was, especially in a city where he wanted to leave too.
But I'm saying it's tough. It's tough to get guys to play in Toronto. When he was there, he was the man. Now his Jersey gets retired, probably the next dude. Uh, what's the short point guard from Philly and Villanova.
What's that guy's name? Uh, Kyle Lowry, Kyle Lowry. Maybe you retire Kyle Lowry. You know, I don't, yeah, I could see that. I could see DeMar DeRozan too, even though he wasn't there for the title. I get that. That's for the franchise for being there for as long as you were for being their guy.
I don't know. I don't look at Vince Carter as anybody's guy because he was everybody's guy. No, he was a Raptors guy. Well, that's because of longevity. How many people play in, he played in what, four different decades?
I know that sounds crazy. Right. And again, I'm not taking away from his career. I'm not telling you that Vince Carter is not an all time player. He, he is, he's a hall of Famer. We all know that. But again, part of, to me, when you get a Jersey retired, like you have to have some sort of major impact championship wise. You got to be there for a long time.
And I don't, I don't buy that. You just said major impact. Championship wise, they won nothing. No, come on. If you're going to be there five years, you've got to win something.
We got plenty of guys all over sports who haven't won a championship, but had a major impact for an expansion franchise. I will give him that on that. I will.
Okay. Either way to go back to the original, no, one's going to Barclays to see this. And I don't, I gotta be, I really thought he was part of those two NBA losses that the nets hold near and dear. I don't know the Colts, the AFC championship appearance, the jets back to back AFC championship game appearances and the nets. We went to the NBA finals two years in a row. Like, okay, I get it.
You're holding onto what? And I thought that was an ode to that. That's not even that. That's brutal. That's brutal. Yeah. Well, thank you. Thank you, Vince Carter for playing in the swamp.
The end. Vince Carter doesn't want to show up in Brooklyn. Come on. The fans don't have an attachment to him. He doesn't have an attachment to the fans. There's no association, none, none with Brooklyn.
And let's be real. When the team was in New Jersey, who was seeing him play at, what is it? Was it the Azad center at the time? Yeah, probably. Yeah. I thought it wasn't continental anymore. No.
Okay. That guy was, he was, he was lost. He's just out there playing. He's like everybody that played at the Azad son.
He's just there playing basketball, collecting checks, waiting to get on the road and get out of that place. That's just, just what it is. It's the JR sport brief show here with you on the infinity sports network.

Back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR sport brief show. Today is September 23rd, 2024, but if we go back to September 23rd, 1988, Jose Canseco created a new club, the 40 40 club. This man had 42 home runs, but then he stole his 40th stolen base against the Brewers to create the 40 40 club.
The first member, Jose Canseco. He's leaning a little bit right now. He's running.
There's the throttle. Number 40! Jose Canseco, the first man ever in big league history. Can't do it. And now he's asking the umpire if he can take that second base back. And he's saying no. The umpire says he can't have it. He's getting a standing ovation from his teammates on the top of the deck.
It is a Jose Canseco I know trying to steal things, maybe use drugs. Anyway, September 23rd, 2018, Drew Brees. This man threw a pass to Michael Thomas and at the time he broke Brett Favre's record for most completions in NFL history is 63,000.
Yeah, 6,300 not 1,000. I don't think Brees arm would last for that long. Man, this is crazy. Washington is pulling out all the stops. Big man touchdown. Yeah, offensive lineman eligible receiver and Washington is now up 28 to 13.
How about that? This is fun watching the Bengals lose. 0-3 they're about to beat. Anyway, September 23rd, 2022, Albert Pujols. This man hit his 700th home run. Yeah, it was only a few years ago wrapping things up with the Cardinals. And Albert Pujols, he quit not too long after that.
He finished that season kind of hot too. Decided to walk away with the Cardinals. He was taking on the Dodgers at the time. And Albert Pujols, one of the greatest hitters I've ever seen in my life.
Probably you too. That was on Apple TV. Yes, because of course Apple was already distributing games at the time. What a day. These games have turned out to be quite interesting. Not what I thought that they would be. Buffalo leads the Jacksonville Jaguars 37 to 10. They're already in the fourth quarter.
Shows you how fast an ass-whooping goes. And then meanwhile, I just told you about the score up in Cincinnati. This is going to be a massive disappointment if they don't turn this one around. The commanders currently lead the Bengals 28 to 13. The Bengals have an opportunity.
Not one that you want to start the season 0-3 if they do not win this game. Hickey, can we can we talk to somebody from Jacksonville and Cincinnati tomorrow? They're going to be some miserable folk, right? Oh yes, they'll be miserable and we can absolutely make that happen.
Yeah, let's see what happens. The Bengals are going to have to turn things around. The Jaguars, we know they're cooked like Doug Peterson's future. And well, the Bengals might be in the same situation. I know Joe Burrow said he wasn't panicking, not worrying.
He may have to change that tune real soon. Hey, thank you so much for you. Yeah, you listening.
Okay. And thank you to Pete Bursich who joined us, former Minnesota Viking current radio analyst, to talk about a team that's playing well and they're getting ready to take on the Packers. So if you've missed a minute or second of the show, hit rewind on the free Odyssey app, the JR Sport Reshow here on the Infinity Sports Network. It's done.
