This is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network.
I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. I hope you've had a wonderful Tuesday. I hope you've had a good afternoon. I hope you're having the beginning of what might be a wonderful evening. Either way, wherever you're at, whatever you're doing, I'm going to be hanging out with you for the next four hours. This is when the show gets started.
Every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. And we got a lot to get into. Of course, the NFL season is underway. College football season is underway. And we have some, let's just say, residual stories to discuss.
We have some additional topics to give you some updates on. Like Justin Fields. He's going to start another game. We'll talk about it.
Tyreek Hill. I mean, man, man was in handcuffs on Sunday morning. And we got the Miami Dolphins coming out with a statement. We have the police union coming out with a statement.
But what's the resolution? Last night, Monday Night Football, the first of the season, the New York Jets fell to the 49ers. At least Aaron Rodgers made it through the entire game. The New York Jets a disappointment. And now that week one is done, we've had some additional disappointments. We're going to talk about some other teams that kind of stumbled out of the gate and fell flat.
How about this? Armando Salguero is going to join us. NFL staff writer on Fox and Outkick. He's going to come through. We have another guest who's going to join us to talk about some teams that have fallen flat in college football. Jake Trotter is going to come through and join us. Speaking of college football, we got another lawsuit. We got another NIL lawsuit. We got some guys from Michigan, no cheaters, that are looking for a payday.
I'm going to explain later on in the show. Speaking of looking for a payday, the NFL is looking at these recent allegations, these new, newest, latest sexual assault allegations that have been levied upon Deshaun Watson. Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield, he's no longer a Brown.
He's having all types of success down in Tampa Bay. And speaking of success, at the White House today, South Carolina, Lady Gamecocks, they were honored for their success. So we got a lot to do, a lot of people to talk with, a lot of things to discuss. If you want to be a part of the show, it's simple. The phone number is 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. You can also find me. I'm online. I'm on the internet. I am everywhere at JR Sport Brief.
Okay. Shout out to my main man, holding it down in New York City, Ryan Hickey. Ryan, how you doing, man?
You good? JR doing good, man. It was fun to kind of see, finally, for the first time in his Jets career, Aaron Rodgers play a full game and kind of see what that offense looks like. Shocking to see how bad that defense played, but is a good and exciting end to week number one. Yeah. No, no Christian McCaffrey.
And we're going to get into that as well. His backup, I think had a little bit of a slip of the tongue when it came down to when he knew he was going to play that might get the 49ers in a little bit of trouble when it comes down to reporting, reporting injuries, specifically the injury to Christian McCaffrey. Aaron Rodgers stunk last night. The Jets stunk last night.
Not, I don't want to say not a shock, but the first game out the gate. We'll actually hear from Aaron Rodgers and what he had to say later on this hour about the beat down. You can always listen to the show on the free Odyssey app, your local infinity sports network affiliate, Sirius XM channel 158, and a smart speaker.
If you have one, ask it to play the infinity sports network. This is kind of crazy. Coming out of week one of the NFL season, we had the Sunday night football game with Alliance were victorious against the Rams, but we had the 49ers over the jets yesterday. Last week, we had the chiefs. They went out there and won over the Ravens.
We had the game in Brazil where the Eagles were victorious against the Packers in a story that has evaded America, whether or not you happen to be a NFL fan, a football fan or not is Tyree kill ending up in cuffs before the Miami dolphins went out there and beat the Jacksonville Jaguars down in Miami. You know, we talked about this during the show and it's kind of crazy because this is live. This is not tape. This is not recorded due to all of the wonders of technology.
I'm able to emanate through your speakers almost simultaneously as I speak with a slight delay. But the fact is I'm here on air and we're getting news about Tyree kill. At first Tyree kill is like, yeah, I obeyed everything that the officer said. And then they had an officer who was placed on leave and then he was detained. And then Tyree kill was eventually cited for careless driving and failing to wear his seatbelt. And then Hickey, literally while we're right here on the air, we get the body cam footage that comes out.
And it appears that, you know, there was a little bit more to the story or that both sides weren't necessarily fully telling the truth. Tyree kill comes out. We see the footage. He's asked to roll down the window. Just as like, Hey, give me my ticket, you know, and rolls the window back up the office lay roll down the window. And then they forcibly took him out the car and put them on the ground and put a knee in his back. And then Kaleis Campbell was also unfortunately detained while, while trying to deescalate the situation.
This was just bad all the way around. You know, Tyree kill wasn't fully honest and cooperating with the officers. He later said in an interview that he did not want to cause a scene by having his window down as fans were on their way to the stadium.
Well, that contradicts what he initially said, where he said he was fully cooperative. We had an officer who was placed on leave. And now I think I know we know why he was placed on leave because, uh, pretty aggressive in the handling of him and dragging him out of the car.
And so we said this last night, two wrongs don't make a right, but Tyree killed. He was on CNN and he pretty much tweeted out. He wants to make a change.
He was asked on CNN, what the hell does that mean? When I say let's make a change, let's do it together. So Miami PD, really all, all offices across the world, man, because one officer doesn't, you know what I'm saying? Like make the whole group look bad. Like every, everybody has bad apples, you know what I'm saying?
Every team has bad apples. Um, it's, it's, it's my job to use my platform and my resources. Um, so that way, um, I'm able to align, you know, with, you know, these, you know, um, different stations. So that's what I mean when I say let's make a change, like, cause we don't try out at all. You know what I'm saying? Like we don't protest. We even took a knee, you know, we, we done did a walk, like, so what's next? So right now, me and my wife, we right now, brainstorming on, um, how can we be a part of this change? You know, so it's important to us, you know, cause we want to be able to change lives all, you know, all the way across the world, not just Miami. Oh, okay.
All right. Thank you, Tyrico. The Miami Dolphins, they chimed in and said the team has a strong relationship with the police department, but they were saddened by what took place. And the Miami Dolphins are calling for swift and strong action against the officers.
The team says there are some officers who mistake their responsibility and commitment to serve with miss guided power. That's from the dolphins. If you saw the video, Tyrico was also on the phone at the time of, uh, of while he was being detained with his agent, Drew Rosenhouse. He's yelling at the guy, Hey, uh, Drew, Drew, you know, they arrested me.
They're arresting me. Well, his agent, Drew Rosenhouse, one of the more powerful agents. He might be one of the few that you actually know of in the NFL.
He was on a Dan LeBettard show and Drew Rosenhouse. He had a little bit more swift of a response and calling for action against the police. I think that police officers that, uh, they did that to Tyrico shouldn't be in that position. They should be let go. Look at the guy that just kicked him right there. That guy should be fired.
That's out of control. The guy that, that jumped in, put him in a chokehold. There's no place for a police officer to have a badge that operates like that when Tyrico wasn't being, uh, aggressive or violent or fighting back in any capacity. Well, you know, that was horrendous how they treated him. They didn't treat him like a human being. There's no place for police officers to be on the force. I don't, I don't disagree with, with Drew Rosenhouse. They forcibly dragged him out and they went the extra mile and making sure that he got down like by putting a knee into his back.
Look, Tyrico was wrong. The officer asked him to roll down the window, roll, roll down the window. It's not your job to say, well, I don't want to cause a scene out here.
You know, Miami Dolphins fans will walk into the game. It's 10 30 in the morning. I know people go out to tailgate, but you want to listen to the officer. You, you did it. That's just what it boils down to ask you to do something. You didn't do it now. Should he have been manhandled the way that he was after the fact? I don't think so.
Look, I'm not trained in the force, but it certainly seemed to be a little bit more aggressive and unnecessary. And Tyrico and the Dolphins, if y'all want to do something, then yeah, actually make a difference for the betterment of the community. I don't know what type of pow wow or community engagement program that you all need to do down in Miami Dade, but make it something that, that other teams can participate in, in their local cities, you know, bridge together law enforcement and the teams use the NFL players as an example to actually do good in the community.
And I know that's a lot to ask for because the NFL is a business. They're worried about the dollars and the cents first, like a lot of people. Yeah, they like the community. As long as the community isn't on fire outside of the stadium, stopping people from going and spending that duck, that buck.
Look, a lot of people aren't, can be quite performative. They can put on a show about what they care about and what they don't care about and what they like and what they love and what they have a passion for. The NFL's passion is money. How can we make money? How can we keep our fans?
You know, what song and dance do we have to do to go ahead and keep our fans? And so, Hey, look, if the Miami dolphins and at the urging of Tyreek Hill, and I don't know if he's the best guy to do it based on some of his, uh, you know, the domestic violence history and what have you, but if he's going to be the dude who can help go out there and lead change, then God bless him. His attorneys, by the way, are, are, are threatening to sue. Now, is that in the best, uh, you know, what's the word? Is that in the best interest of Tyreek or the dolphins or the force?
Probably not. Why drag this out any more than it needs to be? It's done. It's over. The police can defend themselves and Tyreek can defend himself and whatever the case might be.
The dolphins can put out statements. What are y'all actually going to do? That's to the betterment of the community and Tyreek has opened up his mouth, him and his wife are brainstorming.
Okay, cool. I hope y'all come up with some good ideas or this just gets swept under the rug. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people all over the country who have to deal with this and it's, it's terrible. We got police officers who are trying to do a job. We have people who don't always necessarily listen. And then we got people who don't listen and give the police officers a hard time.
There's not no, no one size fits all solution to all of this outside of better communication. We've seen some of the horror stories as long as I've been alive and predating me and then we can go back and back way, way before I was born. We don't live in no utopia, but everybody can do their, their little bit, just a little bit. That's to make a difference. It's the JR sport reshow here with you on the infinity sports network, eight five five two one two 42 27.
That's eight five five two one two 42 27. We're just getting started. We're just getting warmed up. As I told you, we're going to get into the New York jets and that disappointing loss last night to the 49ers.
Not too much of a shock because the 49ers were at home, even without Christian McCaffrey, not surprised. We're going to talk about some additional disappointments in the NFL after week one. We're going to talk about Michael Parsons. Now that everybody else on the Cowboys got paid, Michael Parsons had some words to share about his own status. I told you about a potential lawsuit coming out from Tyreek Hill. We got four Michigan players, four former players from Michigan.
They are suing for their piece of the pie. We're going to talk about Deshaun Watson and his issues, the success of Baker Mayfield, the success of the South Carolina Gamecocks. We got a lot to do.
And then we got guests. I told you about Armando Salguero. I told you about Jake Trotter.
We got a lot to do. Happy Tuesday to you. When we come back on the other side, I'm going to give you some good news. Maybe this is good news if you're Justin Fields.
Maybe it's bad news if you're Russell Wilson. I'll explain on the other side. Happy Tuesday. You're locked in to the J.R. Sport Brief Show here on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the J.R. Sport Brief.
It's the J.R. Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. I was speaking to Oregon. We're going to talk about, well, a kind of sort of. We're going to talk about a duck in a minute. Well, we got a Buckeye who's going to oppose a former duck, that is.
That's what it appears like right now. We got the Steelers taking on the Broncos this upcoming Sunday. That's Justin Fields, a former Buckeye, and Bo Nix, a former duck. And where the hell is Russell Wilson in this conversation? You might recall.
How could you escape it? Justin Fields started this past Sunday. Against his hometown, Atlanta Falcons. And I can't even say that he led them to a victory because he did not.
He did it. He didn't turn the ball over, thank God. Well, he fumbled the ball. He didn't lose it.
He didn't lead nobody to victory. The Steelers came here to Georgia and kicked six field goals. Hickey, after four field goals, I'm saying, I'm drinking a beer for every field goal after that. I'm like, how many more field goals do we have to see? You have a limit on how many you want to see?
I mean, when you go to a football game, if you know what you're looking at, you have an idea of a team and its capabilities. And if the Steelers are just kicking field goals, I'm just going to go, you know what, they ain't doing the damn thing the rest of the game. I'm tapping out. I'm just, I'm X'd out. I'm done.
I'm gone. And we'll get to the Jets, but no different than last night. When we exited the studio last night, it seemed like, you know, Jets had some life. By the time I walked into my door, I'm like, this game is over. And I knew, I mean, it was very over when Tyrod Taylor went out there, but I digress. We'll get to the Jets.
Hickey, to answer your question, yes, I do. That's a long answer. Man, so you must have hated last night. Six field goals from Jake Moody. That's what, four too many for you?
Yes. Like, let's look, if you want to take me back to a prior era and say, let's, let's give us a nine, six game. I'm okay with that.
All right. Give me a defensive battle. But in the year 2024, when everybody's supposed to be high powered and high scoring, it give me something else, man. Maybe that's a new rule Roger Caddell could implement in 2025. You are only allowed at max two field goals. That's it. Oh, damn. After that, what you just got to, you got to go for it, whatever, figure it out.
Okay. So you either got to, you either got to punt or go for it. Who was it the other day? Mike McCarthy sent this guy out there for 71 yards.
He's like, ah, nah, no, no thanks. Thought about it. I wanted to see him. Yeah. I wanted to see him miss. Well, he hit it from 66. Didn't count, but come on. Another five. Come on, bro.
That's a lot. You're not wrong. I wanted to see it return so I could laugh. Okay. The Browns needed something at that point.
Let them, let them, let them say, let them take anything. But anyway, the Pittsburgh Steelers, they going to play some ugly football all year round. I don't care if Russell Wilson is out there or Justin Fields, but apparently Russell Wilson is still dealing with an issue when it comes down to his calf. Apparently he has improved, but not enough for people to, to throw him out there for the Steelers to throw him out there.
Justin Fields was 17 or 23. He passed for 156 yards. He rushed for another 57 and that was it.
So he moved the chains enough to kick field goals, but not enough to punch the ball into the end zone. I think welcome to the Justin Fields experience, unless he's able to just kind of bust one open and just run down the field by himself today. Mike Tomlin spoke to the media about Russell Wilson and he said his status.
I don't know. I just visited with him. He feels better today than he did over the weekend. And so what that means, I don't know, as we sit here today, I know that we're going to take the same approach that we take with a lot of people in terms of injury.
We'll first start with his participation and his level of participation, his quality of participation. Over the course of the week, we'll be analyzing whether he's capable of protecting himself, whether he's capable of being productive. When we get to those, you know, when we get to those points, that's when we'll ponder his inclusion or not. And when that happens, we'll probably be a component of that equation.
But as I sit here today, we're preparing as if Justin is going to be our quarterback. Oh, he pondered. They're pondering. You like that? I do like that.
That was very eloquently said about if Russell Wilson will practice and thus if he could play in the game. So when you ponder, it's a little bit more, a little more elegant, as you said, of a thinking or thought process. So are they like crossing their legs and, you know, drinking tea? What does it mean to really ponder?
You got to, you got to go every now and then, sort of your thumbs or something, I guess, you know, put your chin in between your thumb and your pointer finger, you know, you're along with them as well, like you said, just kind of thinking, pondering, you know, as highbrow individuals do, you ponder. I guess Mike Tomlin, he had a good day. He seemed a little bit more, I don't know, relaxed than usual. A lot of times you can come across as like, listen, I don't want to talk to y'all. I'm going to bark it out.
Don't ask me nothing. Today, he was in a good mood, I guess. Well, them six field goals did the job for him. Winning cures all, right?
It does. And on this part, I couldn't, I couldn't get, maybe because he ain't turned the ball over. He appreciated it. But, uh, Mike Tomlin continued on today. He said he liked what he saw from Justin Fields. It was a lot of good. Um, it's just good to be in a stadium with a guy. Um, you speculate until you are. And I just know a heck of a lot more about him because of that experience.
And I'm sure he knows more about, about himself and this environment and us. And so it's just really good things to, to build upon. Oh, this is like the first time for anything. I mean, it's like the first time, you know, after you do it or you experience it for the first time, it doesn't matter how much, uh, you know, practice you had by the time you get there, you have a better idea. Of course.
Yes. And despite all of the footage that was out and has been out for years now on Justin Fields, you had to see it up close and personal. I got to be honest. I don't, I don't see things getting better. If there is a benefit for the Pittsburgh Steelers, it's that they are taking on the Denver Broncos. The Denver Broncos are still trying to figure out life by themselves with Bo Nix as their starting quarterback. And so this has the potential to be in, uh, let's just say another ugly game. And to be honest, I don't know when, when the Steelers are going to play a pretty game, this is the most steelist thing ever. Who would be shocked if they beat Denver?
The answer is nobody. Bo Nix is quick on the trigger. I don't think that I'm not picking them to win at home.
And this is what I want just because I like a little bit of drama. I want to see Justin Fields have one of those good games. I want to see Justin Fields have success because I want, I want a quarterback controversy. We know Russell Wilson was in line to be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was in line to be the starting quarterback from when they brought him in. It didn't matter what they did with Justin Fields before, after the fact. Russell Wilson has the resume.
He has the experience. He's also 10 years older than the guy. Justin Fields is 25.
Give us another month and a half, another two months, almost. Russell Wilson is going to be 36. So I don't know, maybe all that scrambling for the past 10 plus years has now finally caught up with Russell Wilson. Maybe all that weight gain and weight loss has finally caught up with Russell Wilson.
Maybe all them damn hits have caught up with the guy. Never had a calf strain. I'm not, not running anywhere. My calves are not the sizes of, I don't know. Nicky, what's the size of Russell Wilson's calves? Yeah.
Any guess? Uh, Ooh, not a boulder. Um, a ham, a ham. Yeah. Oh yeah. Sure.
Like a nice Christmas ham. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. I don't have that.
You ever pulled the calf before? No. Right. Thankfully. No. Yeah. No.
That feels like it hurts or seems like it hurts. You think? Well, well between him and McCaffrey, I guess you got to have a giant calf worth to hurt and pull something.
I'll tell you this though. I need Justin Fields to ball out. I need a controversy. I need to see Russell Wilson on the sidelines going, I need to get in the game.
I've been wanting this. I always knew that Justin Fields was going to play. I knew he was going to play in spurts and opportunities and packages and deception and smoke and mirrors. I knew that that was going to be the case in a minute that he stinks.
Come on now. Russell Wilson will go out there, but I need Justin Fields more than ever. Forget your time with the bears. You need to make this a difficult decision for Mike Tomlin after the Steelers take on the Denver Broncos. Next up, they have the Los Angeles chargers. The chargers just handled business and they took care of the Raiders.
JK Dobbins is out there rushing for 120, 135 yards. Good. I'm not expecting that every week. I need them to go into that game with some controversy.
Spice things up. Let this be the steal away. I feel like the Steelers this entire season is nothing.
I feel like they're stealing this entire season is nothing but a matter of hunger games. Let's throw you out there and see who lasts. Is it going to be Russell Wilson? Is it going to be Justin Fields?
Put it to you this way. I'm not enthusiastic about either when it comes down to winning the Super Bowl. I would venture to say I put money on this and this may not be the boldest bet. The next time the Steelers win, hoist the Vince Lombardi. I don't think Justin Fields or Russell Wilson, neither one of these guys is going to be the dude to do it. They are treading water as Mike Tomlin continues to field competitive football teams that don't result in championships.
Ben Roethlisberger, I know he's sitting around, well he ain't twittling his thumbs. I haven't heard from him. Did he quit his podcast or is he just irrelevant now? Well, maybe the latter, but oh no, it came back. Season two was renewed.
I believe the first episode was maybe last week, two weeks ago. So you know he'll weigh in. Yeah, Big Ben. I'm looking at Big Ben talks football in hiatus. Okay, wow, he's back. He is.
You're right, Hickey. How long before he rips apart one of these QBs? He's not going to rip apart Russell, is he? Can't do it.
Can't. I think he would rip apart Russ before he rips apart Fields. That'd be great.
That'd be fun. And he has no shame in this game. And he ripped apart Kenny Pickett last year, two years ago, whenever it was. We all knew Kenny Pickett was a sitting duck. Come on now.
Same can be said for these two as well. Oh wow, yeah, yeah. So what does he think? He's going to diss anybody not named Terry Bradshaw? Is that what this is?
I think so, yeah. It seems like he has a like a protective shell and anyone that even, you know, comes, I mean, I guess takes his position technically. He's, you know, ready to kind of knock down and make sure his standing in the Steelers lower is secure.
Man, it's crazy. This man is Ben Roethlisberger is going into the Hall of Fame. He's sitting around doing podcasts every now and then just slapping down at the Steelers. He needs to do a podcast.
He needs to do a podcast. Just change it from footballing and call it Bitter QBs. We can get him, have Aaron Rodgers pop up. I'm sure Philip Rivers is sitting around somewhere sick of his kids. Yeah, Bitter Quarterbacks and Ben Roethlisberger. I give him two weeks before he's throwing darts at Russell Wilson, if he plays or Justin Fields. Footballing, nice name for a podcast. It's the JR Sportbreeze show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network.
We're going to take a break when we come back. I don't know. Is Aaron Rodgers a Bitter Quarterback? No, he's an enigma. That's what he is. That's what he is being described as.
That's the title of his upcoming Netflix documentary docuseries. Enigma. I know what he was last night.
Ass. Okay, that's what he was. He was bad. He said he needed to perform better. The Jets said they need to perform better.
But everybody sees, I guess, the pot of gold at the other end of the rainbow. And I know somebody else who's not getting paid by the Jets but is being fined by the Jets, who's sitting around had to shake his head at that nonsense last night. We're going to get into the 49ers and the Jets on the other side of the break now that week one is done. You're listening to the JR Sportbreeze. It's the JR Sportbreeze show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. Justin Fields, it looks like he's going to get another shot to start for the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Russell Wilson still dealing with a little bit of a calf issue that they say, I guess, is improving. But they don't know.
They're preparing right now like Justin Fields is going to go ahead and get the start. And that's what happens when you get older. I don't care who you are, what you do. When you get older, you start to fall apart. You break down.
You got to try to ward it off. What you eat, how you prepare, you know, what do you exercise, all that good stuff. And sometimes genetics to just go out there and stay healthy. Russell Wilson isn't even 40 yet. We got a quarterback in the NFL who is 40 years old. He's coming off of a blown Achilles. And last night for the New York Jets, he was able to make it through an entire game.
His name is Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately for the New York Jets, they didn't walk away with a victory in this game. The 49ers, they didn't just beat the Jets, they beat down on them.
32 to 19. This game was boring as hell, especially when it was apparent that the New York Jets, they were just running in quicksand. The New York Jets didn't even have the ball. Time of possession literally ran from about 40 minutes to 20 minutes.
Now, if your team is on the 20 minute side, your team didn't do a damn thing. The 49ers didn't have Christian McCaffrey. Forget Russell Wilson. McCaffrey dealing with his own calf issue. Their backup, Jordan Mason rushed for 147 yards. That ain't winning football. Christian McCaffrey could take a little bit of a vacation based on what we saw. And so the New York Jets, yeah, Aaron Rodgers came back.
He was flat. 13 of 21, 167 yards. A touchdown, an interception. It was kind of sad though to watch.
Aaron Rodgers, though, he said, you know what? I'm happy I made it through the damn game. Obviously wanted to take a shot and feel the physicality of it. Once I threw a couple balls and took a shot, it felt good. Felt like I was into the game. Oh, okay. All right.
It must be nice to at least be around to take a hit. Last year, he lasted four plays. That offensive line stunk and they didn't get anything.
Nada. The head coach, Rob Salah, the head coach who has to answer to Aaron Rodgers. Rob Salah, he said the offensive rhythm, we'll get it together sooner than later. I think that'll come naturally. I mean, we had 49 plays on offense and I think that'll happen organically when we're able to possess the ball and have a couple of opportunities to drive. You go 12 plays and then from there, like I said, you're just not seeing the field as much as you want.
But all of it will come together. For the first game, for Aaron, and for the offense and all that stuff, I thought, like I said, there's going to be some good things that we can take away from. And now we just got to figure out a way to get better from week one to week two.
Picky, forget him. Can we hear from the real coach? Can we hear what Aaron Rodgers had to say?
What did he say about the offense? We were just bad on first and second down, I think for a lot of the game. And then, you know, we had a couple of drives, we converted third downs, but overall, you know, we, we, we, I feel like we didn't have any third and 10 pluses tonight.
So that's always a good thing. We look in the stat sheet, but we didn't convert those third and mediums. Um, you know, we had a drop, we had a couple, uh, penalties, had a bad throw. Okay. That's the real coach right there. Coach Rogers. Just, just telling the truth, right?
Now what's next? He needs to move his ass around, right? Aaron Rodgers is known for running around, but is he too old? Is he afraid of that Achilles?
How does Robert Salah feel about this? He actually emphasized today, well, he's not worried about Aaron Rogers leg and he's also not worried about the defense that gave up 180 yards rushing. It's a 17 game season. Got 16 of these left and, uh, um, getting the defense fixed is not going to be a problem. Yeah.
Yeah. Defense would be fine. Worry about the offense though, right?
Mike Williams, the new offensive acquisition, the wide receiver opposite Garrett Wilson barely played Breece Hall, only able to rush for 55 or excuse me, 54 yards. They just had no balance. It's like first day of school and they sucked. Garrett Wilson said as much.
You realize all of a sudden you're not there. We gotta go. We gotta go, um, prepare, um, get better every, every week, every day, every rep truly because we're not, we're not there yet. They, they, they whooped our ass today and, and that's the reality of it. And, um, we gotta find a way to get better. You know, the great teams will bounce back from this and that's what we plan to do.
Yeah. 49 is our great team. There's also a thought that the San Francisco 49ers won't even need Christian McCaffrey for their next game when they take on the Minnesota Vikings. We don't know Kyle Shanahan. No, this is what happens when you compete for super bowls.
He's like, you know what? Yeah, we beat up on the jets, but we, we got, we got a better room. We got room to improve actually. Still got a long way to go today by no means was perfect. There were some parts that were sloppy, but just overall all three phases, um, played really well together. Um, being able to score there at the end of the half and with the field goal run, the clock out, score the opening drive of the third quarter, our defense getting the two turnovers, our kicker going six for six. Oh, come on, man.
It's just, that's coach stuff. Come on. You won the game with a backup running back. You still got Deebo, Samuel still got kid. Oh yeah. You got branded IU even though he dropped the pass. Come on. That's what happens when you're good.
49 is trying to be great. The New York jets are trying to catch him and Hassan Redick is still not at work. The man did not play yesterday, cost himself $800,000.
If I should be so lucky to have that problem at work. 855, 212-4227. That's 855, 212-4227. Dave is calling from New York. You're on the JR sport brief show. Go ahead, Dave. Hey, JR.
So here in the New York area, uh, you know, Aaron Rogers, I mean, Dave thinking here that he's going to bring this close to the promise plan. I just want to know one thing. How far can you go in today's football with a quarterback that's not mobile, that can't run.
If all your receivers are shut down, what are you going to do? I, I, it's got a great arm. I get it.
But in today's quarterback, you got to be able to run too. I mean, that's, that's, that's the way the game is transitioned. And I don't know why New Yorkers think that, or jet fans think that they can just think that talk Super Bowl.
I mean, I don't know. Thank you. Thank you, Dave, for calling from New York. I don't think that is all encompassing of all New Yorkers are jet fans. And if you're a jet fan, what are you supposed to do?
I like the jets. I don't hope wish or think anything. I think they'll probably fall short. They brought in Aaron Rogers, they swing for the fences.
This is the reality of what it is right now. Well, what else are they supposed to do? I don't think they're going to do it, but they got to swing for the fences. It's one game. And Aaron Rogers said as much sitting around on Pat McAfee show, he's back, by the way, get used to that one. Telling everybody, Hey, if we won and everybody be allowed jets to the Super Bowl, if they lost, of course, the jets suck.
Of course, it's probably somewhere in the middle. And after one game, Aaron Rogers admitted that he wasn't the best. The guy is 40 years old. He's coming off of an Achilles tear. Am I going to judge him after one game about how much he moves around? I don't think he's going to scramble like he did five and 10 years ago. The jets have enough offensive weapons and the New York jets have this man in here.
Not just because of his, his arm, but because of his brain, because of his pedigree, because of the four MVPs. We know there's only one Super Bowl. He got the same amount as the New York jets have. Come on now. Now Rogers had the nerve to walk into the building on his opening press conference and say, Oh yeah, it's kind of lonely in the front. You couldn't even show up to work last year. You blew out your leg.
Do something about it. I think the New York jets would be good enough to go to the playoffs. And after that, they better, better roll the dice. It ain't going to be easy escaping the AFC. Think about some of the teams the jets would have to get by. Forget the Chiefs. Yeah, the Chiefs at the top. The Ravens. The Bills are probably maybe at the same level as the Jets, I would say. The Jets are going to be tasked without scoring the Dolphins. They better hope that they played a game in New York. And that's just in the, the AFC East and looking at one team in the West.
And I did mention the North. Looks like the, one of the teams in the North has a quarterback issue. Deshaun Watson in trouble again. The other one has a, there's a flat controversy when it comes to their QBs.
The Jets will go to the postseason, but they ain't going to be that much better than the teams that they have to play against. This is a real crap shoot. I just don't think it's going to end up all that well. Hickey, I give it two years and both New York teams will still be looking for quarterbacks.
Wow. So you're saying in 2025, what, are you expecting, I guess, Rogers to play next year? I think Rogers will be back, I think. And I think the Giants, they will have told Daniel Jones, go find another job. Beat it. Yeah. And so I give it two years. I give it two years. And so it's going to take more than a year for the Giants to get a guy, unless they are so absolutely trashed this year that they just go forth.
Right. And they end up with the guy that they want next year and they're happy with it. But I think we're rolling to that point where it's, it sucks. It sucks to be a football fan in New York. Maybe not now, but to be a Jet fan.
I just don't, if you ask me, hey, they're just going to win a Super Bowl with Rogers, the odds are not high. You know what I'm saying? I think they're going to suffer a little while before it starts crumbling down. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.
I think you're right. Cause it's not only, I mean, it's really new quarterback Rogers, but essentially that whole offensive line is new. You got new receivers in there as well. Like there is, forget the defense, there's just a lot of new faces that it takes time now with not playing in the preseason, it takes time to gel. And that's a lot to ask in one year, this year being that year to go have it click right away and beat some of the best teams in the league to win a Super Bowl.
It's almost an impossible task. They got, they got, they got 16 more games to figure it out. I guess that's the benefit of this new season, which by the way, they're negotiating already to extend it to 18 before the CBA expires. The Jets got time. By the time the season is over, Aaron Rogers will be 41 years old. How exciting.
Everybody can't be Tom Brady. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. It's not just the New York Jets who have been a disappointment after week one of the NFL season is completed. We got some other teams that have stunk the joint up. They may have changed and altered what is expected of them throughout the whole year.
I'll tell you about some on the other side. It's the JR Sport Reshow, the Infinity Sports Network.
