It is! The JR Sportbrief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Much love and many thanks to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. Thank you for listening.
I appreciate you. If you're not here, there is no show. Thank you to our producer, holding it down in New York City. Without him, there is no show.
Nico Scarlatos. Happy Friday. Happy almost more football. The regular season is underway. The Ravens and the Chiefs got us going last night. And today, down in Sao Paulo, Brazil, we got more NFL action. We got the Packers. We got the Eagles.
And you got me for the next three hours. The show gets started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. We've had a busy show already. Yeah, we talked about the Chiefs and the Ravens. We talked about Russell Wilson. Doesn't appear that he's healthy enough to start. He'll be, I guess, a game time decision on Sunday against the Falcons. Bill Belichick is not all that high on Caleb Williams.
And we have so much more to do. But 20 minutes from now, we're gonna go straight to Baltimore and have a chat with Cordell Woodland from 105.7, the fan. We're gonna get into Jamar Chase and his contract situation is still not done. He might be a game time decision.
It has nothing to do an injury. It's all about money. Speaking of money, Jalen Ramsey, he got his his hands on some money. Pat Fryer Muth got his hands on some money.
At least that's a stealer that's gonna play. And Angel Reese pretty much documented and shared with the world. And she's not treated all that nice. And she says, especially by some of Kaitlyn Clark's fans, they don't treat her good.
That sucks, right? And of course, at the end of the show, I'm gonna share with you quite a few things that took place this day in sports history. If you want to give me a holler, it's real simple. Here's a phone number. You ready? It's 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. You could also find me online. I am everywhere at JR Sport Brief. And I told you that we're gonna have Cordell Woodland joining us in a few minutes. This is a this is a big deal for us, okay?
This is one of the reasons. Because I got a message that came in. I got a tweet. You tweet me at JR Sport Brief.
A gentleman by the name of Pit Master. Lots of numbers. He says, at JR Sport Brief, Lamar Jackson is a great, great football player. A plus plus plus.
Yeah, that's three pluses. But he's a C plus quarterback. I think his best comparison is Steve Young. Steve Young, you heard me correctly.
I'm confused as hell. I need a drink after reading that. So is Steve Young also an A plus plus football player but then a C plus quarterback? Am I missing a Steve Young? Steve Young, nice guy by the way. Let me tell you something. I'd be very happy to have Steve Young, okay?
I'll tell you that much. You don't think the fans in Baltimore, shout outs to everybody listening in Baltimore right now. You don't think the fans in Baltimore, you don't think they'd be upset if Lamar Jackson just had a little bit of a career like Steve Young, which he kind of already has with the two MVPs. You don't think they'd be okay with a few Super Bowl championships? Baltimore Ravens are still a relatively young franchise in the NFL.
I think I'd sign up for three titles. So I'm confused. Lamar Jackson is a good quarterback, okay? He just has a difficult time beating the Chiefs.
Offensive line, as I mentioned last hour, they stunk. I think Todd Monken has some responsibility. Last night is just not his fault. The two passes at the end, they were certainly his fault. But I think there's a few things that we have to keep in mind here.
This is not the easiest thing in the world. It takes a team to go out there and win. And I think they did a little too much with him. But we'll have this chat with Cordell in about 15 minutes. Cordell Woodland joining us from 105.7, the fan, up in Baltimore. We got more NFL action coming our way in about an hour.
That should be pretty fun. We have the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles in the first game in Brazil. First game in South America. First game in Brazil. First game in the Southern Hemisphere.
Sao Paulo, the fourth largest city in the world. And this should be a good game. Forget where the hell they play it. And these are two teams kind of ending their seasons in two different ways. We know what happened with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Philadelphia Eagles want to forget what happened last year.
Started the season 10 and 0, excuse me, 10 and 1, finished 1 and 5, went to the postseason, got smacked around and destroyed by the Tampa Bay Bucks season over. Nick Sirianni's ass is probably on the line if they don't have success this year. Bill Belichick is probably breathing down his neck, going to find a TV job in Philadelphia just to get a little closer.
If Bill Belichick has any more schedule, time to go do any more jobs. And then you got the Packers on the end of the spectrum, right? You got Jordan Love in a surprise season. They started the season kind of black. They finished 6 and 2. They go to the postseason and embarrass the Cowboys. That's a new team to do so. And then the Packers go out there and then they lose to the eventual NFC champion. Niners, 24 to 21.
Jordan Love, based on how he ended last season, got himself $55 million a year. Two different teams, two different shades of green, all in Brazil, looking to make a statement out of the gate. And there's been a lot said about football in Brazil. The NFL is in Brazil.
Why are they in Brazil? Well, earlier today, this morning, on the Today Show, right before LL Cool J played, by the way, LL Cool J has a new album out. Roger Goodell was interviewed. Yes, they went from Roger Goodell to LL Cool J. Roger Goodell explained why the NFL is in Brazil.
Listen to this. Well, our intention is to make American football global. So we're taking our game everywhere we can. We expect someday in the near future, we'll be paying 16 regular season games over the season.
This is our first time in South America, as you mentioned. The reception has been extraordinary. And I think the real goal is to share our game. When we share it with fans, they love it.
And this will be the spark that sort of lights the flame down here to really get this game at a different position. Interesting. Oh, my goodness. The internet is such a terrible, terrible place. They're not terrible.
Not that bad. Nico, your name is Nico, right? Yes, sir. We got people confusing. There's a guy online slandering our producer here, Ryan Hickey, by calling you Ryan, even though I think I've said Nico is here with us about four or five times.
And every time I've called to reference you, I called you Nico. Do I sound like Ryan? I don't think so. Not at all.
I don't think so either. But according to Theo, Theo, he's he's now slandering Ryan Hickey, who is minding his business somewhere. So now that I've mentioned this online, do do I say wrong guy?
Do I do that as well? Or is he listening? He's probably listening, right?
I would hope he's listening. Yeah, this guy. Wrong guy. Wrong guy. Ryan is not even here. Shame.
Isn't here. Shame. This is this how the Internet works, right? This is how it works, Nico?
I guess so. Wrong guy. Ryan isn't here. Shame. Shame. Shame. Shame.
I'll give I'll give laughing faces so he doesn't feel that I'm serious because everybody is so everybody's so serious and angry nowadays. Wrong guy. Ryan is here. Shame. Shame. There we go.
All right. He'll figure it out if he's not listening. This guy said Ryan, the super producer and sports talk show host, just said eating Chicago pizza is the same as eating lasagna in a pan.
Do you agree? He put a Twitter poll up on his mouth. Oh, come on now. What a guy.
Nico, this is this is why Bill Belichick didn't want to be on social media. Stuff like this right here. You can just say anything and not even know what the hell you're talking about.
And people just run with it. I may have started a war with the city of Chicago now. Oh, have you? No, I think they'll be OK. It's taste of Chicago.
They're just outside eating. And Yankees out there, too, is this is a lot going on in Chicago. But let's go from another giant city to one that's much bigger. Yes, Sao Paulo, much bigger than Chicago. Back to the quarterbacks.
Let's talk about love. First time in Brazil. First time playing in the city. Not that he's going to have a chance to see it. He's literally showing up practicing and leaving. But he still wanted to show his love and appreciation to the city and the fans.
Listen to Jordan Love. I'm excited to be here. It's an awesome experience. Once in a lifetime experience playing first ever NFL game here in Brazil.
So that's awesome. It's been nothing but love since we got here. Fans were at the airport last night.
They're at the hotel. So definitely a lot of love. And I'm excited to see what the atmosphere is like in the stadium tomorrow for the game. I know it's going to be rocking. So I'm very excited. I'm glad to hear that the Brazilians are all ready to be Packer fans now. So we're covering everybody. But I'm excited.
It's nothing but love since we've been here. And I think Packer fans are excited as well. I mean, the way they started the season and went on that that run to finish the year six and two. And people talk and even Coach Lafleur is sick of conversations about who the best wide receiver is and who the best target will be between Christian Watson and Romeo Dobbs and Jayden Reed.
They're just out there to spread the wealth. Who's going to come down with the ball when it matters the most? That'll be something that will be determined as the year goes on. But the Green Bay Packers, I expect them to be back in the postseason as a wildcard team. Was that still think, well, the Lions are much better team. Lions have a experienced quarterback. Jordan Love may ultimately be better than Jared Goff.
But I think in the experience space, you still got to go with the proven commodity there. And I think all things considered, the Lions are going to end up winning that division. Just like I think when you take a look at the NFC East, I think the Philadelphia Eagles are going to end up winning that division. We know the Giants ain't doing nothing, OK?
You know, Washington isn't doing anything. And the Dallas Cowboys will be behind the Eagles. I think this will be a bounce back year for the Philadelphia Eagles. Let's take a listen to another quarterback.
This time, Jalen Hurts. How the hell do you feel about playing in Brazil? My personal perspective is, you know, I'm a kid from, you know, East Houston that used to play this game in the streets.
Any piece of grass I can find, I'll go throw the ball around and really just enjoy the game, the love for the game and just have an opportunity to come this far in this journey. OK. You know, it just sucks that the players won't be able to see the city. They want to go back to Sao Paulo, then they got to do it on their own time. And I mean, just going down there, the NFL has probably scared the living daylights out of them. Don't do this. Don't do that. They may not want to return. They may not want to go back.
855-212-4227. I got the Eagles winning the NFC East. That's no shocker. I think Nick Sirianni can actually, you know, take a deep breath, breathe in and breathe out. Kellen Moore coming in to help as the offensive coordinator. Vic Fangio helping out on the defense. You bring in Saquon Barkley. If Nick Sirianni can't get this team to the postseason, even to forget that if they can't win a round or two, then you still got to consider giving this guy a boot or the boot. Now, Nico, I know you said that you are your fan of the New York Giants. Is that correct?
Yes, sir, it is. What is your expectation of the New York Giants this upcoming season? So the optimistic side of me says they could go nine and eight and compete for the seven seed. But I know that that's not the popular opinion.
Oh, my God. But I do think that after going six and eleven with Tommy DeVito, a quarterback for six games, you have to give credit to Brian Dabble for what he was able to do last year. So after adding Brian Burns drafting Malik neighbors, I don't think they're worse than they were last year. So if they won six games in twenty, twenty three, I would think they'd have to at least win seven, eight or nine games in twenty, twenty four, seven, eight or nine games, seven, eight or nine. That's that's kind of a wide range going from seven to nine.
So I'll say the floor is seven and the ceiling is 10. So you believe you believe in Daniel Jones? I do. OK, wow. That he'll make it healthy through a season. Right. That's that's the biggest key for him, because when he's healthy for a full season, like he was two years ago, the Giants won nine games and got to the postseason every other year before and after that. He's he hasn't played the full year and has been injured. And then backup quarterbacks are coming in. We saw Mike Glennon play a couple of years ago, Tommy DeVito and Tyrod Taylor, obviously last year. So it's just been a mess when he's not on the field. Yeah, we know. Unfortunately, as you said, he hasn't been able to stay on the field.
And when he has, he's also made some silly mistakes. We'll see what happened. Maybe things will go that way. Nico, I would not. You don't have money on that now, do you? I do not. OK, good.
Keep it that way. It's the JR Sport Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, we're going to talk about a good quarterback in the NFL. This one, this man, he may have trouble winning the big one or a big one against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he is a two time MVP. We're going to talk about Lamar Jacks. We're going to talk about John Harbaugh. We're going to talk about Todd Monken. We're going to get into Derrick Henry. We're going to talk all things Baltimore Ravens with Cordell Woodland, host on 105.7, the fan in Baltimore.
He's joining us on the other side of the break. You're listening to the JR Sport Show Coast to Coast here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network Coast to Coast. We talked about a lot of quarterbacks today. Caleb Williams, Russell Wilson, Jordan Love getting ready to get going in Brazil against Jalen Hurts. But the quarterback who's garnered the most attention over the past 24 hours is out of Baltimore, Maryland via Florida. His name is Lamar Jackson. You saw the Ravens kick things off last night in Kansas City against the Chiefs. Didn't walk away with the victory, but there's a whole lot more season left to go for the Baltimore Ravens. To break it all down, to talk all things Lamar, and then also all things Ravens, joining us right now is Cordell Woodland, host on 105.7, the fan out in Baltimore. Cordell, how are you, man? Who's going on, JR?
Thank you for taking the time to join us. I know it's been about 24 hours, a little less than that, for people to kind of take things in. What's the ultimate reaction in Baltimore for the team and the Ravens last night after the loss?
Yeah, I think it's a mixed bag. I mean, if you're asking the fans, I mean, most fans are going to be upset that they lost that game. They still had a salty taste in their mouth from the AFC Championship game. So, you know, they're not looking at this as if it's a week one game. They see the Chiefs, they see Lamar, they see Patrick Mahomes. They feel like they need to go out there and make a statement to start the year. On the other side, you got some people that honestly like some of the things that they saw from the Ravens last night, despite the loss.
And it wasn't pretty always throughout the game, especially in the first half. But it's week one. And the thing with the Ravens is, contrary to the Chiefs, a lot of these Ravens starters don't play in the preseason. Lamar, it's been a few years since Lamar and the starters on the offensive side of the ball have played in the preseason. So, Russ is kind of expected in week one.
And I think that's what we got. And Cordell Woodland is joining us out of Baltimore, 105-7, the fan. Lamar Jackson, as you know, is is criticized unless, you know, he's doing good and it's just like, OK, but when he does bad, it seems like there's more of a magnifying glass on what he does. He's not a quarterback. He's a running back who throws the ball. He's not a good quarterback.
What do you say when you hear things like that? I always try to tell people that Lamar Jackson's game is an acquired taste. It's if you're if you're going to sit there and try to compare him by the same standards that you would compare to a regular pocket quarterback, then you're going to be disappointed because that's not what he's giving you.
If you're going to look at him for the type for just who he is and the type of player he is, I think you have to kind of respect the way that he plays. You saw it last night. It's all on Lamar Jackson. The Ravens are going to live and die with Lamar.
I can't. Maybe Josh Allen this year, but besides him, I can't think of another quarterback that a team depends on as much as the Ravens depend on Lamar Jackson to be everything for them. He led the team in rushing last year, last night and really last year, really every year as a starter. The whole reason Barry Kenry is here is so that he can help take the load off Lamar with the rushing game. That wasn't the case last night. And I'm not blaming Barry Kenry. That offensive line did a poor job run blocking last night.
I think that's going to be an issue for them a lot this year. But yeah, with Lamar, I just think people have it in their mind what a quarterback is supposed to look like, what a quarterback is supposed to do, how they're supposed to play. And he defies all of that.
He goes against all of that. And like I said, he's an acquired case. Some people appreciate his game.
Some people just simply don't understand his game in my opinion. Well, Cordell, you mentioned Derek Henry's 30 years old. It's nice to see him back with a team that is going to be competing in the AFC. You mentioned the offensive line. We know Moncken is moving now into his second year. What are your thoughts on how they will best utilize Derek Henry going forward outside of what we saw last night?
Yeah, I think they're trying to figure it out. Honestly, I mean, a lot of it is going to depend on the offensive line. Derek Henry isn't a pass catcher out of the backfield. That's never really been his game throughout his career. At this stage of his career, he's not a three-down back. Justin Hill played well last night, and I expect Justin Hill to be out there a lot on third down. So I think when it comes to Derek Henry, they've got to figure out what type of blocking style works best with this rushing attack. Because last night, you're seeing him get hit in the backfield a couple of times before he can even get going.
That's not a recipe for success. That's not what they envisioned when they signed him here. I don't think he's going to be this 25-carry-a-game type of running back.
I just don't foresee that. I think this could work, and I know this may not answer your question fully, but I do think how they go about using Derek Henry is kind of determined by what they can get out of this offensive lineup. It's going to look like it did last night, and it forces him to be one-dimensional. You're going to see a lot of what you saw in the second half, which is Derek Henry on the sidelines holding his helmet. Now, if they can get a push, and they can actually give him an opportunity to hit a hole and not get hit as he's getting the ball handed off to him, then maybe you can start seeing Derek Henry that eats up three, four, five yards of carry. The running backs that have been in this system, JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards and even Justice Hill, they have all been efficient when you look at their yards per carry throughout the years playing with Lamar Jackson. There's no reason that can't be Derek Henry, but it does depend on those guys up front. It can't just be Derek Henry runs through 11 guys and makes something happen.
So I think he's going to be their task this week to figure out how to get more out of this offensive line and how to make it so that Derek Henry is a part of their game plan for all four quarters. Cordell Woodland is joining us covers all things Ravens for 105.7, the fan in Baltimore. You know, I've heard a lot about coach John Harbaugh. I listened earlier today to the fan. And there were quite a few fans who are of the ilk of he's here because of his charisma and personality. And it's the same old, same old. And every year it's the same old. So they want to give the guy the boot.
And I had to kind of go, whoa, I want to complain if I had him as a coach. What are your thoughts on that? Yeah, I mean, definitely. I think it's outside of Kansas City is probably that case in a lot of different areas, to be honest with you. I mean, it's a what have you done for me lately type of situation. And then they don't care about that Super Bowl back in 2012.
They only look at what you didn't do. They're looking at 2019 when Lamar was unanimous MVP, when they had a ton of all pros and they had the best record in football. And then they lose in the divisional round in their first playoff game. They're looking at last year when this team was the best team in football and they lose in the AFC Championship game because they did not play like themselves, which is run the football. I like John Harbaugh personally.
When people call into my show and and complain about harms and talk about how they want to get rid of them. My first question is, OK, and replace them with who? And nobody has an answer for that because there's just not upgrades upgrades as a head coach over John Harbaugh just sitting on the streets right now. Look, I'm not saying John Harbaugh is perfect. Some of his clock management and game management should definitely be brought into question without a doubt. That said, it's week one. I think John Harbaugh is in a good spot right now, but I will say if the Ravens missed, God forbid, missed the playoffs this year or don't win a playoff game, yeah, maybe there will be some hard conversations had over at the castle.
But as of right now, I'm not in that same world that a lot of fans are in out here that want John Harbaugh gone. Well, Cordell, earlier this offseason before the season started months ago, he said that the Ravens have built or they're building Lamar Jackson to be the greatest quarterback of all time. That's not verbatim, but that is basically what the man said. Were you surprised? Was that hyperbole on his part? Like, what prompted him to come out of his mouth and even say that? Well, yeah, well, I mean, the question he was asked, I think, if I remember correctly, was about the national media and how they talk about Lamar. And for whatever reason, they got John on the road of calling Lamar, you know, pretty much saying that he expects Lamar to be the greatest quarterback of all time. I love Lamar Jackson. I truly do. I think he's the second best quarterback in the NFL right now behind Patrick Mahomes.
There's no shame in that at all. I don't know how much John truly believes that he has talked a lot of different times about how highly he thinks of Lamar and how great of a player he thinks Lamar can be. And again, I echo those same sentiments. But that said, I mean, we all watch the same games every year. We've all watched what Patrick Mahomes has done to this point in his career. And I'm not even saying he's the GOAT right now. In my opinion, it's still Brady until further notice, but I'm not going to sit here and act like Patrick Mahomes isn't kind of nipping at his heels at this age, doing what he's doing and what I expect him to continue to do throughout the rest of his career. So I think that's really just John supporting his guy, trying to back Lamar as much as he can. And I don't have a problem with that.
But yeah, in the moment, I definitely raised my eyebrow because I wasn't sure how much of that John himself actually believes. Cordell Woodland is here with us from Baltimore, 105.7, The Fan. Kyle Van Nooy, we did see him go down onto the field. Does he have a broken orbital socket?
Is that the case? That's the reports. That's the reports right now. And it's looking like he's going to miss some time, which is going to be huge because this pass rush was a big question for this Ravens defense coming into this year. They lost to Davey and Clowney, who was out of this world for them last year.
He goes to Carolina. They were able to bring Van Nooy back, which I thought was huge. They got Justin Matabeke, who had a career all-pro year last year at defensive tackle. But I don't know how much you can depend on your de-tackle to get you double-digit facts every year unless you have Aaron Donald on your team. And last I checked, he retired.
So it definitely makes that question mark that much bigger. I thought the pass rush was decent last night, considering their opponent. But it's going to have to be better, especially with Van Nooy gone. That means David Ejabo is going to have to step up in a big way. Adafay always going to have to step up.
Matabeke again in the middle. Travis Jones, who I thought played really well last night on the interior as well. So they're already short-handed when it comes to naming pass rushes on this team. At this point with Van Nooy, depending on how much time he's going to miss, they may have to go bring somebody in. And they hadn't brought anybody in to this point in the season, to this point in camp and everything.
They usually do. So the fact that they didn't lead me to believe that they were confident in what they had, I'm curious to see what route they take now that Van Nooy is going to miss some time. Well, having said this about the defense and all the discussions we've had about the offense, what do you expect is the best or highest outcome, the most likely outcome for the Ravens this year? Same old, same old? Or you feel more confident they'll finally get over the hump? Yeah, I don't, you know, we spoke to GM Eric DaCosta I think a week ago, maybe two weeks at this point.
They're all starting to blend in together. But we talked to him about the offensive line and he said that they decided to go younger. They got rid of some of the best they had last year. Morgan Moses, John Simpson, both of those guys with the Jets. They had Kevin Zeidler at guard. They decided to go away from those guys and get younger along the offensive line.
So it's a lot of experience there at three different spots right now. Patrick McCarthy is playing right tackle, but they have Roger Rosengarden, the rookie behind him, who they expect to take over that spot before the season ends. And Eric DaCosta said he's looking at next year to kind of be when this offensive line is kind of set and ready to go. So I don't, it's tough for me to view this Ravens season and see them at least back where they were last year in the AFC Championship game with this offensive line being a huge question mark.
It's tough for me to see that. I don't know if I'm ready to say it'll be same old, same old, but I think it'll be a situation where this is a playoff team. They may even win the division because as long as number eight's on the field, they'll always have a chance. And you get in the postseason and you see what happens. I don't necessarily, if I had to bet today, I don't think they're in the AFC Championship game. I just don't foresee it for them right now. But it's very early in the season. We saw a lot of injuries to quarterbacks last year and how that impacted the league. Anything can happen if they can stay healthy. And again, as long as Lamar Jackson is on the field, I believe that the Ravens will always be true contenders. And no doubt about that.
We always hope and want to see him out there. Well, Cordell, where can people follow you, find you, listen to the show, all that good stuff. Fill us in. Yeah, man. Appreciate you having me. You can follow me at Cordell Woodland. I'm on Twitter, X, whatever you want to call it, Instagram.

Real busy. Cordell, thank you so much. Enjoy the football. Good luck against them Raiders. Okay.
I think they'll take care of that. Appreciate it, man. Thanks for having me. And at Cordell Woodland, 105.7, the fan in Baltimore. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. If you want to give me a holler, you can do so. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. A big part. Yeah. Lamar Jackson, you have him on the field. He's the football team all by himself. They've built the entire team, the entire roster, everything around him. We just have to hope that he can stay healthy and make it through a season.
That's no guarantee throughout the entire year. A matter of fact, when we come back on the other side, I want to tell you about a football team. They're trying to move forward. They're probably what I consider to be the most mismatched team in the entire NFL.
Just kind of slapped together. And two of their star players? Well, they're kind of busted up right now.
And one hasn't even played a down for them yet. I'm going to tell you what this team is on the other side of the break. It's the JR Sport Brief Show Coast to Coast on the Infinity Sports Network. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you to Cordell Woodland from 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore for joining us last break to talk all things Ravens. He said, as long as Lamar Jackson is out there on the field.
Yeah, it's just one game yesterday, but they're going to have a chance to win every in any game. He's got to keep that guy healthy. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Not available in all states. We've done a lot of quarterback talk as we're now, I guess, almost 40 minutes away, 30 minutes away from kickoff down in Sao Paulo, Brazil, between the Packers and the Eagles. Talked about Lamar Jackson and Caleb Williams and Russell Wilson.
No need to talk about my homes. What is there to say about that guy? Nothing.
Not a damn thing. And now I need to move on to the team. I need to talk about a defender and an offensive player. Two guys currently out. Two guys who at this stage of their individual careers, they just, well, they ain't what they used to be.
They're on the downside. I'm talking about Jamal Adams and DeAndre Hopkins. Jamal Adams turns 29 years old next month. We all know about his injury history. I'm about to read it to you.
It reads like, oh my God. Well, let me just, let me tell you now, this is going to be his first season with the Titans. He just signed with the Titans here over the summer. He's been dealing with a hip issue. They've been trying to manage him and how his physicality and what he does out on the field because he'd been busted up forever. He goes from the Jets and ends up out in Seattle.
They trade him because he didn't get a new contract. He goes to Seattle and then it's one injury after the other. Torn labrum in his shoulder. Tore his quad trying to get Russell Wilson on opening day of the 2022 season. Had a knee issue destroy his season last year. Had a head issue even early last year as well. All of this was compounded. The Seahawks said, uh, no, thank you.
Goodbye. And the Tennessee Titans decided to pick him up off the scrap heap amongst a whole lot of other guys. DeAndre Hopkins on the other hand is 32 years old. First season last year in Tennessee after being in Arizona, the years prior to that, where he was suspended six games for a PED violation. And if we go back about three years ago, DeAndre Hopkins tore his MCL.
Well, what do you know? Here we are in the year 2024 and a couple of weeks ago, more than a month ago in July, the end of July, DeAndre Hopkins recently revealed that he tore his MCL again. We talked about Caleb Williams, talked about the bears.
The bears take on the Titans in week one. We will not see Jamal Adams due to that hip issue. DeAndre Hopkins.
Well, not so sure. I want you to take a listen to the new head coach, Brian Callahan, who was the offensive coordinator for the bangles. He's supposed to put all this together together for the Tennessee Titans. This is what he had to say when it came down to the injuries of his star players. The two, the two guys that are out this week for sure. Uh, Jamal Adams didn't practice today. He's out. And then Otis is also out.
He's not practice. So those two guys will be out. The rest of it is as the report will read and we'll go ready for Sunday. I'm going to be questioned. He'll be listed as a questionable, but we'll see where we're at Sunday.
Okay. DeAndre Hopkins is questionable. He's been away from the team in Los Angeles doing his, his own rehab. How questionable is that? He was asked about his ability to, to kind of have his knee blown to shreds because DeAndre Hopkins himself, himself, he told Paul Kucharski who we've had here on this show, he basically, he told him, yeah, my leg is torn. I may ultimately need surgery. I'm not thinking about it now.
I can play on it. And so a reporter said, if he goes and plays, is his knee going to explode? Listen to this. Not to my, I'm not a doctor, but not to my knowledge. I think everything is, um, you know, healed though, so far the way it's supposed to. And I don't think there's any fear of any more injury than, um, more injury than, than it was initially.
Oh man. Now they are in the bottom of the barrel when it comes to the AFC South, the Titans are so slapped together. I don't know where they're going to find any type of continuity. You have a new head coach in Brian Callahan. I don't want to start revisiting what a disaster it was to even let go of Mike Vrabel, uh, just because y'all are screwing them up. They didn't give him talent to go out there and work. And then when it didn't work, they wanted to blame him because he said, y'all are like idiots upstairs. Ridiculous.
Terrible. You bring in Calvin Ridley, you bring in LaJarius need, obviously you lose Derek Henry. I'm glad Derek Henry is gone because he can actually play on a team that can win something. The Baltimore Ravens much more so than these, uh, Tennessee Titans. But then you bring in Tony Pollard, just this.
And then we'll, Levis is supposed to go out here and do some work. This is, this is an average team. The Tennessee Titans can max out at being average so far. If you want to ask me the highlight of their entire off season was when Jeffrey Simmons got into a little bit of a, of a beef with a local reporter.
Now that was fun. I mean, not, not if you're the local reporter and you know, Jeffrey Simmons is upset at you. That's, that's not so much fun, that's not so much fun, but this is such a slap together team. They won six games last year.
I wouldn't expect them to win more than six or seven this upcoming year. And Will Levis, I feel bad for the dude. DeAndre Hopkins is not what he used to be, but he's still a damn good wide receiver when he's out there just last year, 1000 yards receiving to go along with seven touchdowns in 75 catches. Now how this works out with a torn MCL, when we see him again, I have no idea.
Between Jamal Adams, just always hurt. His career is soon to be done. And DeAndre Hopkins, the Tennessee Titans, you guys are going to be looking up all season long at the cults, probably directly in front of you, the Jaguars, and then the Texans, which was probably by most the team favored to win the AFC South with all of the offensive weapons and young defenders that they've added. They'll probably continue to elevate. I think the Tennessee Titans might be bad for quite a long time if Will Levis is not the guy. But with the supporting cast that they've put around him, I'm, I'm not banking on much.
I think the Tennessee Titans are going to have to eventually start, start from scratch. It's not an easy thing. Not an easy thing. Good luck though, to Jamal Adams and DeAndre Hopkins and their recoveries.
They tougher than I am. I ain't going out there. If I was Jamal Adams outside of collecting the checks, I would have quit already.
I'd be done. It's that famous meme of Jamal Adams walking up to the Jets facility and his key card didn't work. With his injury status one day, that might be closer to a reality.
I wish him the best in his recovery. They're all things being serious. It's the JR Sportbreeze Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network.
Things are very serious here. Minutes away from the start of the second game of the regular season down in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Green Bay Packers and the Eagles are getting ready to get it on.
But my attention, I'm looking at a game on Sunday. I'm looking at a wide receiver in particular. Is he going to play? Is he going to show up? Is he going to have a new contract? I'm talking about Jamar Chase. I'm going to talk about him on the other side of the break because he just spoke to the media. Is he going to play or not? You'll hear his answer. You're listening to the JR Sportbreeze Show, the Infinity Sports Network.
