I might be in Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you so much to our producer helping out, holding it down for us tonight in New York City, Nick Theodoro. And for you, you listening, all my people at work, people getting ready for the start of the NFL season, people looking for advice, people trying to win money and all that good stuff. I know people put down money on these NFL games. I hope you win some. Anyway, you can always listen to the show on the free Odyssey app, your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate, Sirius XM Channel 158 and a smart speaker.

Ask it to play the Infinity Sports Network. I get started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. And so we've already had a busy show. We talked about the game that will get started in a little more than an hour to open up the season. The Chiefs, the Ravens. We had a great chat with Mike Danger from the fan in Rochester, western New York, to talk about the Buffalo Bills.

He thinks realistically they'll win closer to eight games. And then we you know what? We talked about the Cowboys. We're going to dive deeper into the opposition, the Cleveland Browns.

I'm just happy that the NFL is back. I am like you. If you want to call up, if you want to be a part of the show, it's simple. The phone number is eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.

That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. You can also find me online. I'm on the Internet. I am everywhere.

I am at J.R. Sportbrie at J.R. Sportbrie everywhere. Man, this is this is that September 5th is here already. They say Tom flies when you're having fun, man. Tom just flies. Period. It don't matter what's going on. Tom flies. It doesn't wait for nobody.

So enjoy what you got. While you have it in front of you, it's it's some tough going out here. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven is eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. About 20 minutes, we're going to have a conversation with a former New York Jet, a former Pittsburgh Steeler. Willie Colon is going to come through and join us.

I got a lot of questions for him. We learned earlier today Russell Wilson still dealing with a calf issue. Also, the New York Jets dealing with an issue with a player, the one player in the NFL who is still not at work in Hassan Redick. Imagine being so damn good at what you do. That you don't show up to work, that you can get fined two million dollars and it doesn't mean anything if we should all be so lucky, right? It'd be nice.

Maybe one day I'll be an NFL player anyway. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Kipo is calling from Hawaii. Kipo, you're on the J.R. Sportbrie show. What's up with the calf issue?

Also, the New York Jets. Kipo, what are you doing? Take the phone. Oh, my goodness. Kipo is, I don't know, he's listening to me and him on the radio. Kipo, you can't do you can't do both at the same time, man.

It doesn't work that way. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. You know, as I sit here in the studio, I got all these screens on in front of me. Wow.

One of these screens, unfortunately. Has some stats and information on Lamar Jackson, and we'll get we'll get to Lamar Jackson. Oh, and for in his career against Patrick Mahomes.

Not good. Four wins or in the postseason. Lamar Jackson, head to head, one victory. Mahomes four.

There was even an entire commercial that I did see today. Gatorade. When is Lamar Jackson? One of the Ravens going to get over the hump? When are they going to win? I don't know.

Maybe they went tonight. But the point is. Who?

Cares. It's one game to start the season. They're going to be so many people who are up in arms depending on what takes place tonight. Either way, if the Kansas City Chiefs win. Oh, my God.

They're on their way to winning another championship. Oh, my God. If the the Ravens lose or they still can't beat Mahomes.

Oh, my God. If the Ravens win, what does it matter? And that's really that's really the facts.

That's really what it boils down to. Like nobody cares what happens with the Chiefs. The Ravens aren't going to be evaluated for what takes place here in game number one. Ravens are going to be evaluated for what takes place come January and February. The Chiefs just have to, quote unquote, exist.

They ain't got nothing to prove. Kansas City Chiefs have been rolling. They got the guy three times Super Bowl MVP. Only player to win three Super Bowls in five years. They're trying to three P. Is it the NBA?

This is not the Chicago Bulls is not no Lakers. This is football. Like this isn't supposed to be what takes place in Patrick Mahomes, youngest player to win two MVPs and three Super Bowl MVPs. The Chiefs third Super Bowl win this past February and four trips over a five year span. First team to repeat since the Pats did it 20 years ago for Super Bowl titles, even though they had a 50 year gap. Things have been great recently for the Chiefs.

You go back to nineteen sixty nine to twenty nineteen. No titles, no rings. And then they went in twenty two and they went in twenty three and then Toronto win again this upcoming season.

Twenty four. The news is so big for the Kansas City Chiefs. This opportunity for them to go out there and three P is so big that their owner, Clark Hunt, he was on a Today show. Yes, he was on a Today show, not NFL Network, not Kansas City radio. He was on the Today show and he was asked about the possibility of the Chiefs three peating.

Take a listen to what Clark Hunt had to say. Well, we're excited about the opportunity. It only has happened a few times in the history of the NFL where teams had the chance to do that and nobody's been able to accomplish it. Our guys have really embraced the challenge and are looking forward to it.

They know it's going to be difficult, but I'm confident that Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes and his teammates are going to give it their best shot. Oh, well, yeah, I think so. You guys are trying to make history. And I've been saying this for weeks. You know, there's there's more than one way. I guess a bad cliche if you got a cat.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. But that's the reality of it. There's not one set pathway to greatness. Obviously, the Kansas City Chiefs are the the current dynasty. They're the runner up. Well, not say the runner up.

They have not followed what we saw from the New England Patriots. Are they going to last for 20 years? I don't think so. OK, we don't see a 20 year run.

I do not think so. I don't know how long we'll see. Patrick Mahomes, a guy isn't even in his 30s yet. So it's not fathomable to even think about what he might be doing when he's in his 40s. But I know for a guy who hasn't even reached the 30 mark yet. The world is his oyster. Like Patrick Mahomes can build out his own legacy.

And it doesn't have to be, oh, my God, he has to match the seven of Tom Brady. He can ball out and be great in his own way. And we've already seen that for a guy who turns twenty nine in a couple of weeks.

The guy is not even 30 yet. Greatness comes in different ways and in different forms. And all these Chiefs know about is winning. They might keep on winning. I got them as favorites to win the championship just because of their quarterback. We had a whole discussion yesterday about how the Chiefs offense last year was ranked 15th overall when it came down to scoring.

Fifteen. That's typically where their defense lies. Right in the middle of the pack that defense was one of the best last year while the offense was average. This is a team. Patrick Mahomes said, man, we embarrassed given what we've seen. And all they've known recently is winning. You got the best player and won the most important position in the team in the league. That's that's big time. That's a big deal.

And I think all they're going to do is keep on winning. Chris Jones starred defensive tackle man in the middle of the defense for the Kansas City Chiefs. Earlier on in this off season, he sat down with Sirius XM NFL radio and they talked about the success of the Chiefs.

And he said, you know what? Ever since I got here from when Alex Smith was still throwing the football up until now with Patrick Mahomes, all I've known is success. I don't know anything about failure here with the Chiefs.

Listen to this. I've been very spoiled since I've been in the league. You know, Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes always made the playoffs. You know what I mean? Never had a losing record. You know, everybody was talking about their ups and downs, what they've been through. I haven't been through nothing but the playoffs.

Life has been pretty good. But, you know, over time, you know, you start to appreciate the smaller things and how hard it is to get there and continue to get there. The consistency it takes to get there.

Yeah. Ain't nothing easy unless you're you're in Kansas City with the Chiefs. Unless you have Patrick Mahomes as a quarterback, the great future Hall of Famer Andy Reid as your head coach. And, you know, I don't know how much longer Andy Reid wants to stick around. This man is already in the conversation, given his accolades and how many wins he has and what he's done in the NFC and the AFC accomplishments spanning from the Eagles now to the Chiefs.

He is already one of the greatest coaches of all time. And people look at Andy Reid and they go, oh, my God, look at the fun, cuddly teddy bear. It's been said that Andy Reid runs some of the most intense practices that you will see throughout the course of the year. It's not a coincidence when you take a look at the preseason games where someone like Aaron Rodgers says these preseason games, they're not real football. You look at other teams, they're not putting the players out there. The Kansas City Chiefs threw out Patrick Mahomes in the preseason. They threw out their starters in the preseason. They didn't give it in.

And what does that tell you? In order to actually be good at something, you have to put in the work. You can't go out there and be lazy. You actually have to be willing to do the job. But we know the NFL is a violent job.

But if you ain't practicing, if you're not prepared, how are you going to do your best when it matters? I got the Kansas City Chiefs. Forget tonight's game, which I think they will win at home, or maybe Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry run them into the ground. I do.

At the end of the year, I feel more confident in the Kansas City Chiefs to hoist that Vince Lombardi trophy. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Sean is here from Michigan.

You're on the JR Sport. Re-show us up, Sean. I'll tell you what, brother. I'm a drummer from all of my life and I listen to rock and roll, but I put rock and roll down to listen to you.

I mean that completely. I did. I still listen to rock and roll, but I'd rather put you on than rock and roll. Anyways, I'm still a Lions fan. The Lions took out the Chiefs' first game of the year. They upped the roster now.

I'm literally going to take the Lions to take it all this year. They're set. As long as Gough does not go down, they are going to take the next step and be the next dynasty in football. They are.

They're there. So, Dan Campbell. We know he likes to gamble and he's very aggressive. That might be conducive to a title, but do you think that's conducive to consistently winning year after year? The only thing I'm worried about is their kicker and that's the only thing I'm worried about. Everybody else, they're young. They're the youngest team in the NFL. As long as Gough doesn't go down and he gets a few good years around his staff and everything, they got the best offensive line. They got the best defense.

I don't see how he cannot stop them. Okay. Well, we'll see what happens. Hey, I appreciate you for calling from Michigan, man. All right. Take it easy, brother. Wow.

I don't know if I trust all of that, man. Am I going that far? Am I really going that far? Lions dynasty?

Can they win one first? Let's see that happen. Oh, this guy is back. Kai Po is calling from Hawaii.

Is he listening to me or is he listening to the radio? Kai Po, are you here? Yo, big man.

What's up, dog? Okay. Here you are. Go ahead. Quick. Okay. I need, I need fantasy advice.

Should I play the Falcons against the Steelers or should I play the Seahawks against the Broncos or Broncos against the Seahawks? You want, you want fantasy? Are you going to, are you wanting money?

Like what are we doing here? I'm going to win a crown and a, and a scepter. If I won first place in my fantasy football league, a crown and a scepter win in February. Yep. And what, what are you going to do with your crown and your scepter?

Are you going to like, right when I, right when I put it right over my head, I will slap a selfie and I'll add you to it back. Oh my God. Look at that. Come on, man.

Kai, Kai Po. I'm not, I'm not going to give away fantasy. That's, that's too simple. You call me for fantasy advice. You got so many other things you could ask me. Fantasy advice. I don't even get to participate. You don't even want a scepter and a crown. Like, come on. It's a great price.

I mean, it depends on unless you get people feeding you grapes and fanning you. Hey Kai Po, message me online. Like hit me on X or Twitter and I'll maybe I'll answer you there. Okay. All right. All right. Thank you. Kai Po for calling me from Hawaii. If you want to reach me, you can find me online at X and Instagram and all this other stuff. I am at JR sport brief.

That was a funny question. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, it's going to be time to chat with our next guest. We'll talk to Willie cologne, someone who's real familiar with the NFL because he played with both the Steelers and the New York jets on the offensive line. He is currently an analyst on SNY and many other places for the New York jets, Willie cologne joining us on the other side. It's the JR sport reshow, the infinity sports network, the JR sport brief show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network about an hour away from the start of the 2024 NFL season between the Ravens and the chiefs.

It's time to have a chat with someone who played in the NFL, someone who has himself a Superbowl victory, someone who held it down on the offensive line for both the Steelers and the New York jets. He's currently an analyst in New York for SNY. You can find him all over the place. It's my main man.

Also from the boogie down Bronx, my home, his name is Willie cologne. Willie, how are you man? Oh, what's going on? Jr. Hope you had a good summer brother.

I'm trying to, you know, summer goes by too damn fast, doesn't it? I know I'm holding on myself. How are things?

I got no complaints, man. We're here. We're rocking. We're rolling ready for the start of the season.

I guess out of the gate. We got this matchup that starts in an hour from now between the Ravens and the chiefs. What is your overall sense? The Ravens are, are they your favorite to win it all again this year to three Pete to be the first team to do so or too difficult? Well, you know, I think when it comes to the Baltimore man, it's just a matter of the consistent, the consistency with the defense, right? This is a big time defense that played big time ball and to the campus that he's rolled into the AC championship and pretty much knocked them around led by Travis Kelce and company. I think right now when you talk about the front four, uh, the Baltimore Ravens, they really don't have to come alive, especially on the road in our head. You know, they don't have your Davian Clowney.

They don't have, uh, a common or a Calvin or, you know, they they're led by that a beak way of front. So can that pass road for them? Baltimore Ravens somehow to do Patrick Mahone's, uh, and you know, Patrick, he's lead through all open at night.

He's lethal at home. Um, and this is a, this is a veteran ball club that comes to play. So can they mask the intensity of the, uh, Kansas city chiefs and Willie cologne is joining us analysts for the New York jets.

Let's get down to brass stacks, man. What do you think is going to happen with the jets this year? That's a million dollar question, right? I think the expectations are high, but the, the morale and somewhat the enthusiasm around speaking on behalf of jets fans, um, is tempered, right? Because I think there's this running loop of the terrific nightmare of Aaron Rogers going down after four snaps, uh, in the Meadowlands come when the place was just ready to explode. The, the team had gone to so much momentum last year. Um, and then watching air Rogers go down after four snaps, it just literally put the knife and jet fans heart.

And that knife has been there multiple times. However, last year, last year felt real with all that said, air Rogers is healthy. Um, there's a new officer line, a defense that seemingly has been playing together for, uh, for some time now, you know, the expectation is for this team to go to the playoffs and potentially a super bowl led by Aaron Rogers.

Um, I think his, his maturity, his maturation, uh, all dudes. And I think he's leaking out to the locker room. So I think these guys knows what that they know what the expectation is.

That was just a matter of them going out and doing it. Um, this office in line for the New York jets led by Tyra Smith. You talk about Morgan Moses and John Simpson and the young young Stallworth and, uh, Joe Tippman at center. Um, a lot of the rare talk at our right guard. This is, I expect this office a lot for the New York jets to show up on, on Monday night against San Francisco 49 and show up every Sunday. This is a veteran group.

Um, this is a savvy group. This is a gritty group and now they have a quarterback that could deliver. So the sky's the limit for the New York jets. Willie, you played in the league for about a decade. You, you've seen, you've been in locker rooms or you've been privy and seen about contract disputes is, is what we are hearing about Hassan Redick unusual are the New York jets.

So you talk about a series of unfortunate events that always happens to them. Is, is the Hassan Redick situation the latest? Do you think he's going to play even a couple of snaps on, on Monday? So Robert Sala hasn't ruled them out.

Uh, that's just a matter of game and ship. I think overall, I do not expect to see Hassan Redick. I think Hassan Redick personally doesn't have any leverage, right? Joe D has, Joe Douglas, the general manager for the jets have made it very clear that he's not going to do any type of negotiation unless he shows up in the building. Um, if you talk to a lot of people around the building, um, and there hasn't been any dialogue, right? Joe Douglas and it just continue to operate accordingly. And Hassan Redick haven't had a talk to, uh, the power to be in the building to kind of get this thing rolling.

So it's very much a stance standstill. I think as of right now, the only leverage Hassan Redick technically has is when the Monday and when the Monday night comes and the jets and the items go at each other, that the defense, um, plays Portland. And they don't have a pass rush that can get to Brock Purdy.

That's the only leverage you have. You would assume after that, Joe Douglas will get on the phone and be like, all right, let's get Hassan Redick in the building. We need him. Um, but if that doesn't happen and if this jets defense shows up, like I expect them to do led by CJ Moseley and the sauce Gardner and Quentin Williams, if they show up in a major way, you know, I don't know. I don't know if we're going to see Hassan Redick anytime soon. Billy Colon is joining us earlier on in the show. We talked about the Dak Prescott, uh, situation. It seems that they might be getting closer to a contract. I've always thought that they would wait until Sunday or Sunday morning to announce the news.

So it just sucks the life out of everything else going on. Do you think they'll get a deal done before he throws a snap against Cleveland? You would assume so. Uh, I think right now Dak is handling it, handling it, uh, extremely professionally. He's just, he's going and operating, um, and moving forward.

Those types of things and work itself out. Jerry has already paid that. So there's no, the back, I don't want to say there wouldn't be any lack of faith in Dak's part and reference to him getting paid again. Um, you know, Jerry has made a very clear, you know, this team will go as far as Dak takes him. Um, and if you go back to last year, they were bounced out, uh, the playoffs around, you know, round one against the Green Bay Packers. And so it's, it's interesting to think about what could happen and what should happen right now that Prescott doesn't have a deal.

Uh, so this can only go on or this could be nipped in the bud. Nobody knows, but I think Dak has been doing a great job of kind of, you know, handling with temporary motions and, and, and, and, you know, being ready for the Cowboys from week one. Willie Colon, former Steelers joining us.

There's an active stealer right now. The quarterback Russell Wilson, we learned today dealing with a calf issue again. What do you expect from the Steelers and specifically the quarterback situation this year? You can't run two out there.

You can certainly use packages. How do you think this is going to be measured as they move forward? Well, you know, I think first and foremost, it comes down to being productive, right? I think if Russell Wilson isn't able to go, you would have to imagine they're going to now customize this playbook for just a field. I mean, Mike Tom has come out, says he's extremely comfortable with just a field being a, uh, the guy on the center. If also isn't able to go, what that said, you know, one of the things that kind of played just a field during this, uh, during training camp was, you know, sloppy footwork would lead to inaccurate throws, escaping a pocket too early, not going through his progression. Um, so wrote they start doing it throughout the camp, which I think led, uh, the Steelers and Mike Tom would go with Russell Wilson with all that said, you know, you have to believe Ross is going to do everything possible to be ready to go. Um, the thing about calf injuries, they linger, uh, that soft tissue injury injury, you can rehab, you can feel good.

You can literally feel good all the way through warmup in one dynamic move here. There, um, can kind of flare it up and trigger another, uh, injury. So who knows what happens? Um, I think just a field understand with that state, if he is, uh, to be named, you know, the week one starter, it's his career. He's going to have to prove to that ball club and arrested NFL and fans watching that he's capable and competent of being a quarterback in this league. Willie, I know you still get out to Pittsburgh. I like getting out to Pittsburgh. Uh, every time I roll through, people have the fans, they have positive things to say about Mike Tomlin or they say, Hey, Mike Tomlin isn't helping us to get over the hump. You having been there, what makes Mike Tomlin the coach that everybody wants to play for? I think his level of accountability, not only for the guys in the locker room, but for himself. Um, I think he's not afraid to adjust. I think his ability to see it for what it is, uh, he keeps things very black and white. He'll tell you, he doesn't, he doesn't operate in a gray. It's very black and white for him. And I think he just understands, um, that he just understand the game of football. You know, I think he understand that you have to be able to change with the times. And I think he's been able to do that throughout his career and Pittsburgh.

Now you're right. You know, he's, the playoff record has been substantial. Um, you know, they've gone through their walls, dealing with quarterbacks, uh, and they continue to try to find out who's going to be the next guy to carry him forward. But I think he operates with a sense of urgency. And I think he operates in a, in a world in a world where at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what you say, it's about what you do. Um, and he's a winner and he can use the wind and I'm proud of him. Uh, he was, I would happen to be, I was proud to not only be coached by him, but I'm proud of the man. He's allowed me to come to my career in a man. He, he is today. So he will continue to be at the head coach, uh, for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I don't ever see that for seeing, uh, changing in the future. I think a lot of people in that building, especially in that locker room have had a lot of respect and love for him. So, um, you know, it's just a matter of him just kind of getting over that hump in the playoffs and continue to push forward and bring home another Lombardi. Current analyst, former player, Willie Colon is joining us here on the infinity sports network. There's another coach that certainly exudes a lot of passion, has a lot of opinions, is not afraid to tell everybody what he thinks. And that's Dan Campbell.

Uh, Willie, I had a caller hit us up about 20 minutes ago. He said he believes the lions, they're staring at a run for, for several years here. What are your thoughts on, on what the lions have been able to do under Dan Campbell, his aggressiveness and how sustainable it can be? You know, the, the lions organization and just the history in the last couple of years is interesting. You know, when they had Jim Caldwell, it seemed like they was going in the right direction and then they hired Matt Patricia and it kind of went south, uh, real fast. And then they were able to kind of scurry a little bit. And now they have Dan Campbell who now played the game, who's extremely, to your point, passionate about the game of football and, and men in that place. I think when you talk about the lions and their recent successes culture and what breeds a new culture is winning. And they've been able to do that led by Jared golf.

I think their defense in their run game is pretty much the backbone of their, of their team. But I also like Dan Campbell's Moxie. Um, I think you, when you talk about being an old school, passionate one, one for the gipper type guy, that's him. But he also understands that he can't do it alone. Uh, it's not his big brain. It's not his level of just, you know, being bombastic in front of the mic.

It takes all God in a, in a helmet, 53 included to really believe in one goal. And I think when you see glass couple of years, you start to see it, uh, and you start to feed on film and they're playing like it. And I liked the attitude. And I think the reason why a lot of people believe they can go to distance because they each year they've gotten closer and closer to Jared golf has gotten better. Uh, tell my Jamison ways to talk about that defense. You talk about, um, just from an organizational standpoint from top to bottom, they look like a new or a new ramp, new ramp, uh, regime.

So I think people are believing in that. Um, and that's just a matter of understanding that the division has changed now because of Caleb Williams, Chicago doing a love as a, as a merge, as a legit quarterback, uh, in a bike as a con area and limbo. But you got three teams in a division that can easily, uh, go to distance and Willie, I appreciate the time. Last question for you, man.

You, you talk about the lines. We know that the Niners are stacked, given everybody contracts by the time we, we get to early February and the end of January, do you think we'll see kind of the same teams we saw in the mix last year, this upcoming season? Well, you know, who knows the NFL, what makes the NFL season, um, so exciting is that, you know, you may, the numbers may seem like you have a team or a guy, you never know the season takes you for so many twist turns off and down.

You can't really kind of put your hat on it, but I do say this. When you look at some of the teams that showed up last year, the chiefs, the Ravens, um, Detroit, green Bay, Dallas, you know, what makes the, what makes those team Buffalo, if you will, will make those teams significantly kind of a step ahead of the rest of their ability to win close games. And they have a quarterback that could put a Cape on a winning game in tight, in tight situations. And they have a defense. So with all that said, man, it comes down to just rolling the ball up, rolling the ball out and being the most physical outfit out there on top of executing at a high level that it's always going to win you football games.

So those teams do that really well. So I wouldn't be surprised if we have somewhat of a redundancy in that regard and Willie, I appreciate it. Where can people follow and keep up with you and all of your work throughout the course of the year? Sure. You can check me out on a IG, Willie cologne, 66. I'll be covering the jets pre and post, uh, with bar Scott kind of Rogers on S and Y. Uh, I'll be popping up all over the place. So, uh, check me out. I'll tell you where I'm at and, uh, let's just talk ball and appreciate you really uptown forever. Catch you soon. My man for life.

You're good about it. That's Willie cologne, former New York jet and Steeler current analyst for the jets. It's the JR sport brief show here with you on the infinity sports network. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 and that's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. We are now less than an hour away from the start of the 2024 NFL season. We come back from break. I'm going to get to your calls.

8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. I'm going to talk to you about the Cleveland Browns as they get ready to take on those Dallas Cowboys. And then, yeah, we got even more football. It feels like bonus football. We talked about it yesterday. We got a game in Brazil, the first game in South America ever. Uh, quite a few Eagles had some thoughts as to, uh, you know, making the trip and the safety of the trip.

Well, there's a Brazilian athlete who said, it's not going to be that bad. We're going to get into it all. I'll get to your calls. We got a lot to do the JR sport free show here on the infinity sports network. Thank you to Willie cologne, former NFL offensive lineman for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York jets for joining us in the last break, looked at the entire NFL landscape, looked specifically at the New York jets, took a look at the Steelers, talked about the champs, the chiefs looked at the NFC. If you missed the conversation with NFL analyst and former player, Willie cologne, all you have to do is go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.

That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. I want to go ahead and hit the phone lines up. I want to talk about the Browns. Uh, we just heard the unfortunate news. Uh, say it's unfortunate news that we got from rich Ackerman and the news break that the chief's game might be delayed because of a storm. And typically when they say it's just lightning, that's it.

We know the NFL, they will play through anything that is not life threatening, including the rain, the snow, the sleet, I guess the hell maybe. I don't know. I got a lightning delay story that I'll share with you briefly, but let's talk to Tommy from Indiana.

8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. Tommy is here. You're on the JR sport free show coast to coast. What's up, Tommy? How you doing? I'm doing very well. How you doing? I'm doing good. Good. You're not, Hey, Tommy, you're not gonna, how you, how do I say? You're not going to out how you doing me.

You're not going to do that to me, but go ahead. Hey, I'm a Yankee fan. I'm from New York. Yeah. I'm from the Bronx. You're not going to out how you doing me.

You can't do that. Yeah. We can go on for a while.

Tommy. What's up? I just think that the, the darn, the, you know, I'm trying not to curse, you know, you know, really been doing that really, really well. You know, but anyway, regardless of the fact, uh, you know, I, I've been trying to understand what you're trying to talk about with the quarterbacks. You know, these, these guys, they stink, you know, who in the world besides Aaron Rogers is any good.

I mean, I don't, I don't understand it. You know, you're talking about my homes. My homes was good.

My homes was good, but you're talking about Lamar Jackson. Uh, you know, I don't know about that, but you know, who in the world is good at, at, at quarterback and football. You just need to look at that stuff. Okay. Go ahead. What'd you say? I'll go ahead and give you a response on me.

Okay. Thank you, Tommy, for calling from Indiana, dare I say today, Aaron Rogers is not the best quarterback in the NFL. He's not Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL. It bears fruit given his age, given his accomplishments and the quarterback position has changed. It really has, you know, we've gone through this with, and we've heard of this, I should say from, from Tom Brady, Tom Brady himself has said the game has changed and that quarterbacks, they're, they're babying them.

They're pretty much, and we've seen it. They've taken a lot of elements from the college game and have ported it over into the NFL. And the reality is we've seen these changes in all sports. There's some intricacies that are lost, some details that have changed. I think everybody would agree that the athletes that we have right now are much more dynamic as they've gotten bigger and faster and stronger. And so, yeah, there's some elements of every game that have changed. And so the quarterbacks that we look at today, the ones that we saw the, the moons and the Cunninghams from, you know, 30 and 40 years ago, this, the scrambling of a, of a, of a Steve young, like this is, this has changed.

This is advanced. You know, it's, it's not unusual to just have a, a Michael Vick in the NFL, but to have multiple dudes who can just go and take off at any point in time. Justin Fields is certainly not a high caliber starter, but when you talk about Lamar Jackson, this is someone who's been an MVP. And what we need to see is whether or not he can take the improvement that he's had as a passer and really have that change his game and take him to a championship, a title. That's it.

That's it. And let's also be real for all the traditional quote unquote quarterbacks that we've seen over the course of NFL history. How many of those guys have just won titles?

Like you either good or you not. We know Peyton Manning wasn't going anywhere, nowhere. He wasn't running no damn where he was one of the best QBs.

If you asked me, I would take Peyton Manning over Tom Brady, but who has more rings that doesn't take away from Peyton Manning as a, as a quarterback because ain't no one size fits all. And what's destined for one guy doesn't, doesn't change anything. I think a Kima Lajuan is still to this day, one of the best centers the NBA has ever seen. He doesn't get talked about a lot. It doesn't take away from what he's done because he only has two.

I saw Kima Lajuan busting every center's ass who came his way. And so it doesn't matter the sport. You got a guy who sits at the top most times, and then you got a couple other people who can go ahead and get the scraps.

That's it. And so in the NFL's case, yeah, Tom Brady been sitting at the top of that mountain. Aaron Rodgers had his time. How many Super Bowl victories does he have for as great as he is?

We can talk about the MVPs. Look, Lamar Jackson can pick up two more as well and be like, Hey, I'm just, I'm stocking up, but nobody cares until you win the big one, the championship. I think people have to get over the fact of, well, if the quarterback is moving, if he's scrambling, then, uh, then he ain't good. And that's not just Lamar.

That's anybody. Patrick Mahomes is throwing behind the back passes. He's throwing sideways and this way and every way the game has changed.

You got to get used to it. I wouldn't mind seeing him run the ball more. I wouldn't mind seeing less offense.

That's just me. I like balance. You know, I don't, I don't want to watch the NFL and just see an aerial assault. I don't want to watch NFL blitz.

I want to see something with a little bit more strategy and intricacy that also utilizes the player's athletic abilities. Like I would like that, but a lot of it is predicated on offense and who am I or you to say that what these players are doing, they can't read a defense or they can't understand a playbook. Like that's, that's, that's not cool because you're not in a room with them. And if you were tasked with doing what they do, you'd probably fail. If you or they were tasked to do what you do, they probably fail you.

You got to give these guys some credit. You may not agree. You may not agree.

You may not like or appreciate the style. The game has changed. The sports has changed.

It's faster. The rules have changed to allow more offense. It's just, you got to deal with change. It's inevitable. If you don't deal with change, here's a cliche. You're ready for it. You get left behind.

As simple as that. And it is a rain delay. It stinks. Chiefs, Ravens, back in the locker room, media members are in a tunnel.

I know this is certain. We are not going to have no, no kickoff in about 30 minutes. This stinks. It sucks. Nick, do something about the weather. Help us out.

Do you have any recommendations? No, I wish I could. I don't have any superpowers to help you out here. Okay.

All right. Well, it's going to suck the air out of the building. You think about what was going to be the start of the NFL season and about 30 minutes. And who knows this, this might be delayed by another 30 minutes. It might be delayed by an hour NFL season. We got to wait. Mother nature said not so fast to you in your little NFL season getting underway. So we'll wait a little while longer. If you want to holler at me, you can knock yourself out. Do so. I'll be right here.

8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. I do want to let you know this though. The dependable player of the week is sponsored by depend and the prostate cancer foundation reminding you that health is a long game and screening for prostate cancer is easier than ever.

If you didn't know the Dodgers have more players than that Shohei Ohtani guy, who by the way is an MVP consideration. Obviously people are talking about Francisco Lindor being that space too. You know what?

We'll get into that. I ain't forget about Deshaun Watson. I'm going to talk more about Lamar and on the other side of the break. Unfortunately, I have to share with you my NFL lightning story. It involves Brett Favre, the Vikings and the Jets.

It's terrible. You're locked into the JR sport for you. Show the infinity sports network. The NFL is going to start eventually.
