You are listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network.
We come to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Congratulations to you. Yes, you. Because the NFL season is back. You have something else to enjoy. You got NFL football between now and February.
The Baltimore Ravens currently lead the Kansas City Chiefs 7-0 to start the season. I'll tell you more about it momentarily. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to our producer helping and holding it down for us tonight, Nick Diardoro in New York City. You can always listen to this show on the free Odyssey app, your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate Sirius XM Channel 158 and a smart speaker if you have one. If you got a smart speaker, good for you. Congratulations.
You can ask it to play the Infinity Sports Network. Not all of us are so fancy. OK, you've had a fun show. You missed a minute. Odyssey app hit rewind. Thank you so much.
Oh, so much. Former NFL player Willie Colon joined us, current analyst for the New York Jets. Thank you all so much to talk about the Buffalo Bills. We had Mike Danger joining us from the fan in Rochester. He thinks that the bills are in line for about eight victories this season.
I can't fault him. They've lost. They've lost some talent.
They have most definitely. So we have more to do as the show continues on. You want to holler at me? It's simple. You got a phone. We got a number. The phone number is eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.
It's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. You can find me online. I'm everywhere. I am at J.R. Sportbrief. That's at J.R. Sportbrief everywhere on social media.
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, all the good stuff, the things that that people use. I just told you that the Baltimore Ravens got off to a hot start, quick start, a scoring on their opening drive here against the Kansas City Chiefs. The score currently stands at Baltimore seven Kansas City zero. Derek Henry wasting no time making his his impression for the Ravens fans.
No time. Seventeen yards rushing. Five carries. Lamar Jackson already 19 yards rushing. Derek Henry punching the ball in for these Ravens, a five yard rush. No problem moving that ball out of the gate in Kansas City now with an opportunity to showcase a lot of their new talent and a lot of that, that speed and really rock and roll.
Rashid Rice already getting a football. We know that he was someone who was in danger, still in danger of being suspended following the eight counts of driving like a complete you know what I'll say jerk down in the Metroplex in Dallas. So we'll keep you up to date on this game as as the show continues on, as I continue to to hang out as well.
And we've gone through a lot throughout the course of the show. You know, we talked about this injury to Russell Wilson. Let me not call it an injury.
A matter of fact, let me not do anything. Earlier today, Mike Tomlin, he spoke with the media about Russell Wilson and he basically said he is a limited or was a limited participant in practice. Listen to Mike Tomlin share the status of the starting quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers and listen carefully to the media. Try to get some information out of Mike Tomlin.
Listen to this. Russell Wilson was a limited participant today. His calf got tight. So we want to exercise some precaution.
We'll see what tomorrow looks like and kind of go from there. Questions. Like what are the any long term concerns about Russ's calf?
None. When did he report the tightness? He was a limited participant. Like same calf as training camp? Yes. How much does that impact game planning for Sunday? It really doesn't at all to be honest with you. Does he have to go get a little better example?
We probably will just to exercise an abundance of precaution. That's Mike Tomlin. It's classic Mike Tomlin. And speaking of classic, it didn't take long for the Chiefs to answer here.
OK. This is this is this is ridiculous. On a little on a on a reverse on a reverse, Patrick Mahomes flips the ball to the newest member, the drafted member.
Xavier Worthy out of Texas for a 21 yard touchdown, utilizing all of that speed, all 4.2 of it in a 40 to go ahead and score a touchdown game is tied up. Hey, Nick, they're going to slow down at the end of the game, right? They're not just going to go back and forth and back and forth. We are going to see some defense here, right?
I don't know about that. I could see going back and forth all night. Oh, man. What do you what do you think this score is going to look like? Maybe close to 40s. Oh, my God. Is that that's too much, man.
I can't keep up there for what, like 40 to 30 something. Maybe at the rate they're going. Yeah, I hope they slow down just a little bit.
We'll see what happens. And speaking of slowing down, Russell Wilson has been slowed down. Hopefully he's ready to go.
I would expect so. Also, slowing down at things or it appears that things are picking up in Dallas. A report did come out today that apparently the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott are getting closer to finalizing a deal and that the length of the deal is no longer the issue.
I will assume that they are now haggling over what the guaranteed money looks like, dollars and cents, what have you. So Dak can walk away feeling a little bit better despite his two and five playoff record. You know, last hour we talked about the Browns and they're going to start the season off against the Cowboys.
Let's see if Dak is paid by then. We talked about the Kansas City Chiefs looking for three. Pete has so much attention paid to the Chiefs right now that even their owner was on the Today show earlier this morning.
And Clark Hunt, their boss, the owner, the one that the fans, excuse me, actually the players voted as being one of the cheapest owners in sports based on their facilities. Clark Hunt was asked if the Chiefs are going to go out there and 3P. Well, we're excited about the opportunity.
It only has happened a few times in the history of the NFL where teams had the chance to do that and nobody's been able to accomplish it. Our guys have really embraced the challenge and are looking forward to it. They know it's going to be difficult, but I'm confident that Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes and his teammates are going to give it their best shot.
Yeah, well, it looks like they're giving it their best shot already. This game is tied up at seven apiece. And this is, I don't want to call this game an appetizer because we're watching the defending champions go out there as they try to make history by being the first NFL team that hits a 3P. We know that tomorrow.
And we had talked about it yesterday. Out in Brazil, we got a game between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles down in Sao Paulo, Brazil. And we talked about a lot of the concerns that NFL players had, some of the safety tips that they were given, the do's and the do not's in Sao Paulo.
You know, don't walk down the street with your phone in your hand. The players are like, I'm never going outside. Darius Slayton, you know, excuse me, Slay, Slayton is the Giants. Darius Slay had to say, hey, I'm sorry for some of my comments. No disrespect to the people in Brazil.
But how about this? Gilbert Burns, who beats the hell out of people for a living, I don't think anybody wants to approach him in Brazil. He was talking to TMZ. They had a whole conversation. Gilbert Burns says, listen, man, these guys are NFL players. Ain't nobody bothering them. And he said people like the NFL in Brazil, more people than, you know, listen to what Gilbert Burns had to say.
I would be there if I was in fighting today, I would be there. It's not that crazy. You know, if they make you feel like it, but it's not that crazy. You know, and then those guys, all the football players, they kind of. They look like Brazilian a little bit, they big, they strong, so they're not going to have any problem there and they're going to have a lot of fun. I think it's going to be big. You know, a lot of guys, I didn't know that until my kids started playing and I saw they have a channel NFL Brazil and it's big. A lot of guys follow a lot of Brazilian guys.
A lot of Brazilian fans already follow the sport and like the sport. So it's going to be big. It's going to be bigger than people think. Well, I think it's going to be big for the NFL. I think it's going to be big for the city.
It's going to garner a lot of interest. I'm sure down in Sao Paulo, you can't turn on a local station. I know this is a huge, gigantic city, the fourth largest city on planet earth. But I'm sure there's a big segment of the population that is just like, Whoa, what's this thing from America that's coming into town outside of the people that Gilbert Burns said? Yeah, the NFL has invested in Brazil and building fan bases all over the world, whether it's NFL Germany or Deutschland or you want to move ahead.
And I don't know. Nick, do you think they have an NFL Japan? That's that's going too far, right? They don't have no NFL Japan, do they? I wouldn't be surprised if they do have one. If they do. Yeah, they have. Let's see. And I mean, the NFL is everywhere, so they are. I can't.
You got to you got to take up market share and NFL Japan. This is an official site. Can't be. Oh, wow.
It looks like it. I can't tell because guess what I can't do? I can't read or speak Japanese.
OK, that makes two of us. Yeah. You don't know no Japanese from you, Nick? No. You know how to say hello in Japanese?
Wait, that's Konichiwa, right? Yeah, right. And and hello. Hello and goodbye. Yeah.
Look at you. You know more. I probably just learned that from when Hideki Matsui was here because I was a Yankee fan.
So what did Hideki? No, just like him. I think I might have learned just that from him. Have you ever been Yankee? Have you ever heard Hideki Matsui speak a word? Yeah, through his interpreter.
I've not. You know, all these years I never heard Hideki Matsui speak a word. I hear he's pretty funny, too.
Yeah, I hear he is. But not in English and not in Japanese, not anything. Every time he ever had to do a press conference, Hideki Matsui, he stood to the he stood next to the interpreter, looked at the interpreter with smile at the the report every now and then. And he just shook his head. I'm like, is he even saying words to the interpreter? What is the interpreter saying? What does he interpret? They know each other that well.
He doesn't have to say a thing. Telepathy, huh? Yep.
It works out that way. Yeah. Well, as you said, he always had some some positive things to to say about everybody or people had positive things to say about him. He was just that old timers day for the Yankees, too, as well, right?
Yeah, he was amazing. Amazing. Shohei Ohtani is going to be here for, I don't know, another 10 years. Do you think we'll get Shohei Ohtani speaking English by himself with no interpreter at some point? Maybe. Elaborate.
Go ahead. Well, I don't know right now. Well, he's had a lot of issues with translators, so I don't know.
Maybe he would try to do it himself. You never know. What are the odds that he is two for two on crooks? It's like that. No, the odds are low.
Like if you you're getting thieved and conned by one guy, what are the odds that you now have moved on to another guy that is also a crook? It's like it's impossible to be pretty bad luck. I guess we can.
Well, I can. Can Ohtani have bad luck? I don't think he has any bad luck paying this guy seven hundred million dollars. Well, he's not getting a lot of money right now, but he'll get it one day, bro. He's not getting a lot of. Oh, because of the deferred payment.
Yeah. He makes so much money not swinging a bat because of how good he is swinging a bat and throwing it when he ever the hell he throws the ball. It doesn't even touch a salary. He's like, yeah, you just pay me, pay me in 20 years. You think he's a bit of an underrated, overrated pitcher?
I should say. I don't think he's that great. I remember he came to face the Yankees a few times, scored like three or four runs off of him. I don't remember him being that impressive. No, I don't think he's a shut down guy, but he is.
He is one of the best pitchers when he actually pitches. That is one of the concerns that I have. And I think it's a natural concern.
I mean, look, this is the second time that he's ripped his arm like there's an expectation that he's going to be able to go out there and deliver on the mound at a high capacity. That's that that's worth. And I get it. It's deferred. And so maybe that doesn't matter as much.
But that's worth like 70 million dollars a year. What are we doing? You think when he plays both positions again, he could um, there's a chance he could win a Cy Young and an MVP? I don't know.
I don't know. He that that part is still an enigma. And a lot of it can get washed away while he is strictly batting right now and attempting to go 50, 50, 50 stolen bases and 50 home runs. And he doesn't have to go play in the field. He's not playing defense. He's not on the mound. But how that affects him on the other side on the plate. We'll see the stolen base numbers go down and pitching. I don't know.
It wouldn't shock me if at some point he has another surgery on his arm. Like I'm not saying that to be a jerk. I'm not wishing it on the guy. It's just not easy. And we haven't seen it and how he ages, how he continues to age.
I have no idea. I just can imagine. It's tough. We already know pitching is tough enough, which makes what he does amazing. And he basically has a year off while he rehabs his arm. He is the greatest enigma in baseball.
Pretty wild when you think about the two larger stars, how unique they are. You have Shohei Otani in the National League trying to go for a 50-50 season. The guy pitches and he hits.
Not pitching right now, obviously, because of the injury. We have never seen a player like him. On the other end, we have Aaron Judge. We've seen big, giant baseball players. We've seen tall guys.
We've had Richie Sextons of the world and Dave Winfield. But Judge is built like I don't even know what. He's built like a truck. Dave Winfield did not look like what this guy looks like now. And he's trying to break his own American League home run record by exceeding it or tying it at 62 plus. He slowed down a little bit, though. He hasn't hit home run, I think, in like nine games or so.
It's been time. I know he's trying to go. The Yankees have a little bit of a slowdown, but it's still an attempt. We'll see what he does.
It's just pretty wild that the two bigger stars are just, I don't want to call them freaks, but they're physical freaks of nature for what they do. And baseball is such an unforgiving game physically. Judge missed time last year because of a foot injury, a toe injury. And he's out here cranking it this season. Unless he just tanks out the rest of the year, man is going to walk away with the American League MVP. Now, I think Otani will win National League MVP. I know people are looking at Francisco Lindor and what he's doing for the Mets, but I'll tell you this. The Mets are probably eventually going to crash out.
Come on now. I don't get it how somebody that's batting like a little bit over 280 and I get that he has over 30 home runs, but how is he like second in the conversation in the National League? Is there just nobody that's like close to what Otani is doing? Or at least batting over 300?
Well, I think it's just, I don't want to say a New York media thing, but it partially is. Ron Darling is leading a little bit of the charge and well, Shohei Otani doesn't play in the field and it's a little bit easy and you have to give credit to what Francisco Lindor is doing. And it's true, but it's not going to happen. Francisco Lindor ain't winning no MVP. He would have to finish the season hot like fish grease. He would have to drag the Mets on his back, which he has done, but he'd have to drag them into the postseason for him to win the MVP. But the reality is Otani's numbers, yeah, historical, they're going to give it to him.
It's just what it is. I'd put money down on that. Otani, National League MVP, Aaron Judge, American League MVP, unless Judge crashes out and Bobby Witt Jr. continues to just say, hey, I'm going to snatch the award. But I think it's Judge and Otani. And I think at least at least they're in different leagues now.
There's no competition between, oh, Judge should have did this and he hit home runs and oh, what, he broke a home run record. Oh, first 50-50 guy. At least we don't have to deal with that. Now, I was thinking of 50-50.
I don't know. The way we're going in sports, maybe in another 40-50 years, we'll have a baseball player. Somebody give us a 60-60 season. I'd say Eli Dela Cruz, but you got to get that power together. Maybe it'll come. 60 home runs, maybe not.
It is a lot. It's the JR Sportbree Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. Not a lot to criticize Otani or Judge about, but one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He is being criticized because he criticized another future Hall of Famer. I'll explain on the other side of the break. We'll give you an update on this opening game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens.
We got more to do before we roll out. It's the JR Sportbree Show, the Infinity Sports Network. The JR Sportbree Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. This portion of the show is sponsored by a Hyundai's Bolt family of EVs that bring a new kind of energy to your journey. The IONIQ 5 and 5N. The IONIQ 6 and Kona Electric.
The most electric EV lineup. A lot of electricity in Kansas City. Currently still tied at 7-all. The scoring has slowed down a little bit here as two minutes have gone by in the second quarter. Baltimore and Kansas City all tied up at 7 apiece. Baltimore getting a break here at the goal line.
Kansas City not able to hold on to a touchdown at the end zone. Everybody's favorite kicker Harrison Butger getting ready to go for a kick at least in the friendly confines of his own home stadium of Arrowhead. It will certainly be interesting to hear and see what the reaction is to Harrison Butger as he hits the road. We know about his comments in the off-season as he did that speech, that commencement speech and gave some of his thoughts on women and what they would enjoy and as relates to occupation or aspiration.
Let's put it that way. NFL season is underway. A lot of personalities and guys like Harrison Butger will certainly go on and be criticized along the way. To talk about criticism, anyone who's a public figure or a public individual, you're going to catch your fair share of it, right? No matter how good you are, how bad you are, you're going to get criticized. Now, step away from the NFL for just a second.
If you want to talk about criticism, we got into Lamar Jackson and you got other guys out here, Josh Allen, whatever the case might be. Rudy Gobert is a future Hall of Famer. He's a future basketball Hall of Famer. He is now a four-time defensive player of the year, just won the award, and he just finished the second year of a $205 million contract.
The Minnesota Timberwolves gave up four first round picks to bring him in. He's going to get you a double-double and block a couple of shots a game. Now, is he going to do anything offensively outside of the putbacks and lobs? No, no, he's not. Is he going to be able to go out there and defend on the perimeter a lot of times? No, no, he's not.
Go ahead and ask Luka Doncic. And so there are a lot of cases in the NBA right now where he gets sat because he's not your prototypical defender. He's not flying all over the place. He doesn't have the agility of a wenbenyama. He can guard, he can move, but not like a lot of guys similar to his size.
By the way, the man is seven-foot-one, and so he gets clowned for it. He gets punched by Draymond Green. Doesn't get the respect out of the other players' garner. And so who's beating up on him now? It's not everybody's favorite bully in Draymond Green. This time, it's NBA legend, a Shaquille O'Neal. Shaquille O'Neal was actually being interviewed by his son on Yahoo! Sports, and Shaquille O'Neal was, and Shaq was asked about the worst NBA player of all time. And well, listen to what he said.
Wow. Is Rudy Gobert, is he not earning his money? Is he the worst player in NBA history? Come on, Shaq. Come on. That's doing a little too much, isn't it? I'm not going to say he's hating. He's putting a little too much. You want to talk about the worst player in NBA history?
I don't know. Somebody that you dunked on. Chris Dudley.
Do one of those. But not Rudy Gobert. Is he the worst? No, he's not. He's not that much of a bum or a scrub. He ain't no perfect player.
It's going hard. Well, someone who noticed is Rudy Gobert. Rudy Gobert actually went on X, went on Twitter, went on social media and said, it is sad to see someone that has accomplished as much as you did, Shaq, both in sport and business, still be triggered by another man's finances and accomplishments.
I get the entertainment part, but unlike other folks, you don't need that stuff to stay relevant. And I think he might be talking about Draymond Green, who just talks and talks and think part of that is for him to stay relevant post playing career, can't help himself. Rudy Gobert, I think he has a point. Like Shaq, first of all, it's not $250 million, not to split hairs, but it's $205.
And given the economics in the modern NBA, is, is Rudy Gobert refusing to play? I know there was the instance where his child was born, but I don't see him like load managing. I see him playing basketball. He's just, he is what he is. Why does he get picked on? Because he's French?
Is that what it is? Am I missing something? Why does Draymond Green put him in a headlock? Because he's French? What am I missing?
I don't know. Maybe it was the COVID joke from 2020. He's like, oh, everybody, let's joke about COVID. He wants to touch all the microphones and everything. It's like, okay, it's not funny when Donovan Mitchell gets COVID.
Maybe that was a start of it. But it's just like, damn, Rudy Gobert is a seven foot one future hall of fame pinata for people in the NBA to just beat up on. If you want to beat up on Ben Simmons, I get it.
Ben Simmons comes across as like a real crook. Really? And it's not just, uh, it's back. Okay, fine. He has a bad back, legitimate. They have to cut the guy's back open.
Can't dispute that. But mentally he's not there. His responses are not there.
He doesn't own up to anything. If you want to beat up on Ben Simmons, do it. But Rudy Gobert, I can't get it. Whether it's Shaq, one of the greatest sensors and players of all time, or Draymond Green, who's been playing with one of the greatest shooters, two of the greatest shooters of all time. And if he wasn't, he'd be just another guy.
855-212-4227. We got Marco Belletti here. Marco, Shaq called him one of the worst players of all time. Why the hell can't Rudy Gobert catch a break?
What's the problem? You know why they don't like him? Because he's soft. That's why they don't like him. He's defensive player of the year four times, which is rarefied air in the NBA. And they don't respect it because they think he's soft.
Soft like what? He got to punch somebody? Everybody in the NBA is soft.
Ain't nobody fighting nobody. You're right. Because he's French?
No, I don't think it's the French. Honestly, I think it's just because they don't respect him because they think he's soft. And they don't like the fact that he's four time defensive player of the year when defensive player of the year is supposed to be a guy that's tough, that's supposed to be defensive minded, hard nosed, and they consider him soft. There's a respect level that they just don't have. And it almost seems universal. It's rare that it almost seems like everybody is combined together to say this guy is too soft to be getting the honors that he gets. What is soft, though?
Like, what is that? You know, there's no way to quantify it. And you know it as well as I do.
I don't. I mean, I've seen the guy playing person quite a few times. And when you see him out on the court, it's weird just because of his size and his athleticism. And no, he's not moving like Win Benyama, but he affects the game. Are there times where he cannot because he can't keep up with some of the guys on the perimeter?
Yes, and absolutely. And they sit his ass down. I understand that a little bit more, but I don't think his style of play is any worse than anybody else's, especially for a guy who's double doubling a bunch of blocks. That's what you want from him.
I don't know. If he wasn't defensive player of the year, I don't think anybody would complain. And I think they would actually look at it and go, this guy's underrated for what he does for your club. But the second you give him defensive player of the year, never mind four times and say that he's the standard for defensive minded players, they look at it and go, this guy who's soft and then that's it. And it changes everybody's mindset and turns their mind off.
They don't want to hear it. If you didn't have those, I'm telling you, if you didn't have those trophies in his whatever at home, he would be looked at as underrated because he does. He's now looked at as one of the most hated players in the NBA. Yeah, I agree. I think a lot of part of it started with the COVID stuff. You know, the story that came out of that, he was making the jokes about, you know, let me touch everything, the microphones. And then he got COVID and then the league shut down. And then Donovan Mitchell got COVID. And then we heard that those two guys didn't like each other. And I think it put even further ammunition outside of the defensive player of the year stuff. It kind of put a, hey, you know, we can joke on him because he's a joke.
And I think things have just snowballed from there. Rudy Gobert, he still has three more years left on that contract. And the trade as well, four draft picks for him.
Hit by him. And again, see where it goes in, if he just was on when he first started, when you said that tandem with Mitchell, it was looked at as this guy could be a really good player where it's almost underrated because of what he does. If you tandem him up with a guy that can score, he can do all the dirty work. He could do all the little things. He can guard the rim. He could defend.
He can move. And there was so many things. And then all of a sudden there was the little extra stuff that the trade, the money, the defensive player of the year. And it just, it triggered something. And every, it seemed like every player where it changed them from he could be so valuable and underrated to this guy is overrated soft and he's a bum.
And that's where it went to. He comes across the way you're making it sound. He's like the fancy JaVale McGee.
Yeah. But JaVale McGee doesn't have defensive player of the year and $200 million in his bank. And if they did see, we joke about it instead of the players. If he had all that stuff, you'd hear the hate coming out. You know what the other part about it?
Remember that's some, how about this? Shaquille O'Neal. They had to tell him, stop getting that JaVale McGee and JaVale McGee didn't win anything. And they were whooping his ass for his basketball mistakes. And they're like, okay, now it's starting to be personal. Just stop.
So I don't know. Maybe Shaquille O'Neal is a equal opportunity. I mean, if you can beat up on Rudy Gobert and JaVale McGee, then that, that pretty much runs the gamut.
This is wild stuff. I wish we just said, no, let me relax. I was going to say, I wish we just had more people throwing punches and then we wouldn't have to worry about this, but not, not good for the NBA.
Don't, don't throw punches. I think Draymond already started that with Rudy. So with Rudy? Well, the headlock and everything.
Pool, Rudy. Did I miss anybody? The step on Sabonis. Did I miss anything?
There was a few. Yeah. The kick to the groin LeBron.
Oh yeah. If you look, if he wanted to do anything for the betterment of the league, why didn't he hit Patrick Beverly? I want to just hit him. And now it's too late because Patrick Beverly is going, where is he playing in Israel?
Yeah. Knocked him all the way to the middle East and Patrick Beverly sitting around saying, now he knows what it feels now. Now I know how LeBron feels back in America. After every game, everybody wants to take pictures with me. I'm like, okay, all right. Now I know after the game, I got to take 30 pictures. I okay.
All right, bro. That's exact. That's exactly how LeBron feel. Patrick Beverly living in his own world and in Israel, eight five five two one two 42 27. It's the JR sport re-show. We're going to take a break.
When we come back on the other side, speaking of a break, I'm going to tell you about a guy who broke into a couple of banks and is now going to pay for it. He's associated with the Kansas city chiefs. We'll tell you about a few things that took place this day in sports history. But this day right now, this moment is a football game going on amongst many other things. It is the JR sport re-show here with you on the infinity sports network. Eight five five two one two 42 27.
That's eight five five two one two 42 27. Kansas city chiefs currently leading the Baltimore Ravens a 13 to seven, eh, about five and a half minutes left to go in the first half of the game. Looking forward to having that chat with you tomorrow, following the results of this one. And then we'll have another game that'll get underway, get started. It'll be down in Sao Paulo, Brazil, between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles. We've learned that the players are basically in town is showing up and they're leaving. There are some community events today. They did some walkthroughs earlier in the morning and that they will play the game tomorrow and immediately following the game, they will get on the plane and they will fly back to the United States of America. We know a lot of players worried about their safety and well-being.
Some said I'm just staying in a hotel until I have to leave. And if you want to talk about safety and being worried about anything, I know the chiefs are currently playing a football game, but I'm sure you've heard about this. This Chiefs fan Chiefs a holic.
The guy was running around Kansas City Chiefs wolf mask. This man was out here robbing banks across multiple estates. Well, earlier today we found out what his punishment will be. And let's just say robbing banks is not a good idea.
Take a listen to this, courtesy of KMBC. The super fan turned bank robber will be sentenced in federal court this week. Xavier Bob, you are known as chiefs. A holic pled guilty to a long list of charges, including stealing more than $800,000 from several banks. The government is seeking a 20 year sentence.
Bobby Dar's attorney is asking for 10 years. Oh my goodness. 11 robberies, attempted robberies across seven States stole $850,000. Robin banks is not the way people. I mean, robbing banks is not the way. Don't do it.
Anyway, you don't, you don't rob a bank. Don't, don't do that. Me. What I'm going to do is look at today. Today is Thursday, September 5th, 2024. I'm going to go back in time and take a look at a few things that took place this day in sports history. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history.
See back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR sport brief show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR sport brief show here with you on the infinity sports network. And it's time to take a look at quite a few things that took place this day in sports history. What's today, September 5th, 2024. Let's go back in time.
Let's look at 1987. John McEnroe fined $17,500 for his US open tirades, which were pretty much legendary. He screamed so damn much. They eventually gave him a job as a broadcaster.
Yeah. The time we're screaming and yelling counts. 1994, September 5th, Jerry Rice, touchdown leader all time high over Jim Brown. 1995, Cal Ripken tying Lou Gehrig.
Most consecutive games played. September 5th, 1998, Mark Maguire. What did he do today? That old cheating ass Mark Maguire. The third player in major league baseball history in his home run chase. Remember that one? To hit 60 home runs.
What I want you to do is take a listen to this. In the left field, they can't say it anymore. 60. Mark Maguire with number 60 and they're going berserk here at book stadium. September 5th, 1998, number 60 for Maguire.
He couldn't have hit it higher. Home run number 60 equaling Babe Ruth. A historic moment here at book stadium and we might have more history before the day is over. Yeah, the St. Louis Cardinals ended up beating Cincinnati Reds seven to nothing.
Thank you so much. That was courtesy of the MLB Network. Also, this day in sports history, September 5th, 2013, some guy named Peyton Manning. He tied an NFL record with seven touchdowns. Those are just a few things that took place this day in sports history.
Let's go back to that Mark Maguire guy. It's amazing how he could pretty much do everything that he did. America ate it up. That year, 1998, the home run chase and nobody gave a damn. Him and Sammy Sosa lightened it up.
He ultimately finished the year with 70 home runs. Wild stuff. Wild stuff. Anyway, nobody cares about those records anymore because they were juicing.
Because they were juicing. It was fun though. It was a time.
A fun time with steroid users. Anyway, listen, folks, it's been a fun show. Hey, Nick, thank you so much for your help today. I appreciate you.
No problem, man. We should do this more often. When do you think's the next time? I don't know. Another four months from now, I guess, right? Sounds about right. The track that we're on sounds about right.
Yeah, sounds right. Thank you so much, Nick. And thank you everybody out there for listening. I appreciate Mike Danger and co-host of the Sports Bar show on the Fan in Rochester for joining us to talk about the Bills. Thank you so much to former NFL player for the Jets and Steelers, current analyst for the New York Jets, Willie Colon. Thank you for joining us as well. Talk all things NFL, including the Jets and the Steelers.
If you've missed a minute of the show, if you've missed any of those conversations, you can go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. I'll be back with you tomorrow at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'll be ready to chat with you about everything that is taking place tonight between the Chiefs and the Ravens. Already a controversial decision by the Ravens to go for it on a fourth down. And of course, we'll talk about the game going on in Brazil between the Packers and the Eagles. You can find me online at JR Sport Brief. Don't move here on the Infinity Sports Network. Bart Winkler is coming up next. Y'all be safe, be cool, be smooth, be well. I'm gone.
