A-U-D-A-C-Y. The app is free. Thank you to everybody listening on their local Infinity Sports Network affiliate, Sirius XM Channel 158, and a smart speaker, if you got one. Yeah. Ask the speaker to play Infinity Sports Network. Boom.
We pop right on up. The show gets started every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'm being joined by a super producer and host, Ryan Hickey. Today's NFL cut day. No gigantic names got cut. Kedarius Toney got cut. He ain't a giant name.
He's unemployed. Kansas City's chief said, you can't catch the ball? If you can't catch a ball from Patrick Mahomes, do you deserve to be in the NFL?
I'm just saying. Desmond Ritter released by the Arizona Cardinals, the Falcons. This was the Falcons starting quarterback last year.
They said, no, thanks. We don't want you. Bailey Zappi gone from the New England Patriots. Alan Robinson used to be good with the Bears. Gone from the Giants.
Oh, how about Hickey? We didn't talk about this one. Maybe his dad played so long and there was nothing left for him. Frank Gore Jr. couldn't even get out of his, you know, I'm gonna call it rookie year, but he couldn't even make it to his rookie year. They cut him. The Buffalo Bills did. Sad. Could have been cool.
Maybe Frank would have came out of retirement to play with his son, just like LeBron. No, whoa, no, no. I think the football God said. Not that you know what? I think that's isn't that what it is in sports? If your dad plays long enough.
Like it, there has to be balance here, right? You just everybody can't play for like a million years. You can't have it that way. So Frank Gore, let's say instead of like 30 years played 10 with his son and made the bills, you think?
Yeah, you gotta have to have some for his dad, right? So Frank Gore selfish, huh? I'd agree. Frank Gore played this man played from 2005 to 2020. Unbelievable. That running back. That's unbelievable and didn't suffer many major injuries.
He did it and this dude just ran and ran and ran some more so. It's sort of like what's going to happen with Bronnie James, I guess, right? LeBron James is now I've lost track. What season are we coming up on LeBron? Is this 20 or 21 officially?
Which one is this? Isn't it? I could be wrong. You said 22.
No. Who's playing basketball at the guard position for it? Well, I guess he's a gigantic guard.
They also don't push each other around like they did in the 80s and 90s. Oh my god, the man has already been a 20 time All-Star. Yeah, you're right. He's played 21 years. He's not sick of this yet.
That's cool. So Bronnie's going to get cut in training camp then? No, no, Bronnie. Bronnie will get a good, I don't know. Who knows?
We don't know. Bronnie may have a good five-year career. He could have a 10-year career. I can tell you one thing.
Hickey output every dollar and dime that I have. And I will be close to, you know, well, real close. I'll be closer than that. I'll be close to retirement and social security if Bronnie lasts as long as his dad did. Not happening. Yeah, I think that's a safe bet here. I don't know if Vegas is going to give you any good odds on that, but over or under? We may win a dollar on that one. Bronnie 10 years, over or under? What are we doing? Oh, under.
Yeah, I'll say under. How many, what's the, what's the best case that he is athletic Patrick Beverley? Yes, without the mouth, which keeps him around longer and he's like... Stupid-ass podcast. Yeah, eight-year, 10-year vet that was like the 10th man off the bench. Still kind of carried by LeBron. Patrick Beverley had to play all over the world before coming back to the NBA and playing 12 seasons. Wow. Good luck to Bronnie.
Good for him. You know what? Later on in the show, actually a funny clip, LeBron James on his victory lap here, he did an episode of his shot and he talked about the relationship with his son. You know, how they're going to interact on the court, on the floor when they're away from work and what have you. I love it how sports is just, professional sports is a family affair right now, right? We just talked about the Kelsey brothers got themselves a new podcast. You got Bron and Bronnie.
It doesn't work out for everybody. Frank Gore Jr. Hickey, somebody will pick him up, but just because his last name, he'll get a chance. And the 49ers have to do it, right? Do they have to? Just put them on a practice squad?
I mean, they put, I just saw Elijah Mitchell on season ending IR, so. Oh my god. There's a running back spot open. Okay.
All right. Bring back 21 to the Bay. If Christian McCaffrey's calf is fine. He's going to carry, they're going to bring Frank Gore's son in to carry Christian McCaffrey's bags? Hey, that keeps his calf healthy. Oh my god.
Yeah. They only need his calf for maybe about five, six games at the end of the year. So everybody, everybody with the Niners might as well just go on a vacation and we'll, we're going to get more into the Niners later on in the show. Uh, Hey, also Chris Doering is going to come through and join us in about 15 minutes from the SEC network.
And I told you before we went to break, this is unbelievable. I kind of teased this a little bit about how everybody at Michigan, everybody is, is innocent. And I'm talking about the sign stealing scandal. The one that Connor Stallions, who's a former football staffer, this man, he was suspended, uh, about a year ago, October, 2023 resigned in November. And they were allegations that Connor Stallions would buy tickets to games against Michigan's other opponents that he would send people to games to record video, which is all illegal. And he says he didn't do any of this.
He did, he did the scouting the old fashioned way. And we know that Michigan is pretty much in the process of, of being punished. We have their acting head coach, Sharon Moore, who's basically saying, I can't wait for my texts to come out, even though he deleted them. Uh, Harbaugh is now out in Los Angeles saying, I ain't got nothing to do with nothing.
I never cheated. And so of course, what do we get? We get Netflix with a documentary featuring Connor Stallions. And not only does it feature Connor Stallions, it features some of his, his interviews throughout the process.
Like I'm, I'm like, what are we, what are we doing? Like, Netflix will make a documentary about every and everything. The documentary came out today.
It's called Sign Stealer. The school, Michigan, just a couple of days ago, they got a notice of Alex notice of allegations from the NCAA, basically saying, this is what we found out and just stay tuned because we're about to drop a hammer on you guys. And so what is hilarious about all of this is that Connor Stallions is basically saying, I did nothing wrong. It's actually pretty sad. I didn't see the documentary yet because it came out today. I got things to do. Okay.
Maybe I'll watch it tonight. But the fact is during his NCAA interview, this investigation, did you go to schools? Did you steal signs? Were you on the sidelines?
Were you out there acting illegally? His answers were mind boggling. I want you to listen to this. He was asked specifically, did you give tickets to people to go to games and for them to record at the games? Listen to this interaction.
This is all hilarious. Have you ever purchased tickets for someone to attend a college football game in which Michigan was not playing? I've purchased tickets to many games, college football, obviously Michigan's playing, so I don't have time to go to another game, but I'd either resell them or friend asked for a ticket that I transferred to them or her.
Okay. And would any of those tickets that you purchased that you would then transfer to a friend or a family member, did any of the individuals who you purchased a ticket for attend a game that Michigan was not competing in and film or record the opponent's signal callers? So to my understanding, there are some people who attended games using tickets that I purchased and recorded parts of those games. And who are the individuals that recorded parts of the games that were sitting in seats that you purchased?
I don't recall exactly who. I've purchased tickets to a lot of games. How do you know they were recording parts of the game then?
Because sometimes I wouldn't receive film from them. What? What? Hickey, tell me about an admission without just telling me that you did this. Like, what do we do? What are we doing here? This is comical. This is like, let me just tell lies. So I don't, I don't get the most severest of punishments.
The guy is now a volunteer at a high school. You're not going to get another job, bro. Like this is sad to even listen to. It is. And it's also honestly hilarious at the same time, just because they're already, even before this full investigation by the NCAA has been released, which I'm sure will reveal facts that we don't already learn, but we have enough facts already to basically prove what happened. And now we get to hear lies of, I don't remember, this never happened. I didn't do that. I may have bought tickets and yeah, they may have sent me some video, but I won't admit that it is.
I do appreciate a good roundabout lie. It's very funny. What is he? Is he 12? Is he eight?
Is he three? Like, yeah, I bought people tickets. I don't know who they are. And sometimes they would videotape things at the game, but you don't know who they are. And then sometimes they would just send me video of what's going on at the game. What, why?
Hickey won. I've never, I've never sold tickets, but I've certainly, uh, you know, given people tickets, just all types of things. But even if I was selling tickets to a stranger, you know what I wouldn't do?
I would say, Hey, I wouldn't say, Hey, by the way, when the game is going on, do me a favor. You just just like zoom in. What type of iPhone you got eight?
Oh, that's not good enough. Go get an iPhone 20, because I need you to zoom in on the coaches and the sidelines. And then I need you to send it to me on my iCloud. Like who does that on a stranger?
You sell somebody some tickets, you give them something and you let them enjoy it. You don't ask them for footage. I need photographic evidence that you went. It was like, send me footage at the game. This is pathetic, man.
I know everybody in Columbus is having the time of their lives. I've already seen people saying that they need to take away their national championship. I'm not going that far, but I do think like Michigan, they deserve a massive punishment. In short, you can't now take the approach of, Oh, well now we got Harbaugh.
You can't do anything to the guy, but you got to hit the program where they're going to feel it for the future. It's just, uh, it's, it's sad, man. And it doesn't, it doesn't even stop there because even though Harbaugh did all that yapping and chatting about, Oh yeah, well I didn't know what was going on. And, and, uh, you know, I just, I'm just here. He gave us the Marshawn Lynch. I'm just here so I don't get fined. Even though I left Jim Harbaugh, we learned in this documentary out of Connor Stallion's own mouth, he got himself a game ball from Jim Harbaugh.
Take a listen to this. He got a game ball in 2022. So I actually got the game ball for the Iowa game in 22 for deciphering signals.
Yeah, I'm doing it as well. This is my name. Understanding coach Harbaugh and his, his way of coaching. I think that if anything, it's like, Hey, you know, we see you doing a good job. Well, the funny thing he said after I got the game balls don't get the big head, Connor, don't get the big head.
Uh, what he gave him and the football says deciphering signals. What, what, what are we doing here? Why, why are we acting? This is just a, is that does Hickey, does everybody lie? Is that, is that just what it is? Oh yeah.
And there's really no shame in it. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I'm trying to, I paid attention. I'm like, maybe, maybe I'm trying to find the benefit.
I'm like, there is none is non deciphering signals. Doesn't it make it more frustrating? Like for the denials and to be now stallions is not like as, um, we'll say like confident as horrible as when he slammed the table the other week and was like, we don't cheat. We don't steal. I, you know, we did everything right. But like, I mean, to lie in front of our face, to spit on our head and say, it's raining.
It just almost makes, it makes it for me, at least so way worse. I don't know because everybody is cheating to a certain degree. Not every, not, not everybody. You're right. You're right. But they were the ones to get caught. And I w would, would the punishment be lessened if they would admit it?
Would it be, I mean, we got, we got the current coach to run more. He's just like, I just want my text messages to come out. Can't wait. What are we doing?
That looked like a bunch of liars. Hickey. I ain't got no, no dog in the fight. Comes to the big 10, make my jokes about plenty of the teams. I hope Michigan loses, man. I'm just saying I got, I, I'm Ohio state. I'm about to put up all my photos from Columbus. They treated me very well in Columbus, by the way. Thank you to the Buckeyes. I I'm, I'm anti Michigan. Hickey. I am.
They are extremely unlikable. I'm taking all the Ms. What's on my shirt right now. I got on a lacrosse shirt from an indigenous tribe. Let me see.
Oh, it just says LAX. Okay. There's no M's on my shirt. Otherwise I'd cross it out. Really get involved in the, uh, the rivalry. Stop cheating.
And if you're going to cheat, at least be honest. Don't sit down and do documentaries about it. Netflix will do a documentary on everything. Shame. Shame on Michigan. Cheaters. It's the JR sport show here with you on the infinity sports network. I know where I will never get an invite again, Michigan.
It's okay though. Lots of other schools. Anyway, we're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, we're going to be joined by someone who played college football, Chris Doring, former wide receiver for the Gators and NFL. He's going to come through and join us. You catch him now on the sec network amongst other places. We'll find out what the hell is going on in the sec for the upcoming year. You're locked into the JR sport brief show on the infinity sports network. You're listening to the JR sport brief.
It is the JR sport re show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. We're getting ready for more college football. This weekend was just an appetizer.
Now it's time to get ready for the main course into the weekend and pass that all the way into the winter time. Joining us right now to talk about the most powerful conference. If you ask me in all of college football, we're being joined by Chris Doring, former wide receiver in the NFL for the Gators, and now covering all things football in college for the sec network. Chris, thank you. Hey, good to be back on with you, JR. Thanks for having me, man. All the time.
I appreciate it. Now that we have football upon us, we've had some changes in the sec. We know that a Saban is gone. We still have a Carson Beck who's still around. I mean, outside of Georgia, what should we expect?
Who's the next big dog to potentially knock them off? Yeah, it's funny because I think we're talking about, you know, a couple of unlikely characters. Honestly, you're talking about in most people's minds, uh, Texas program that's making their debut in the sec. I'm a little skeptical to believe that they can come into this league and right off the bat, win 10 games and make it to Atlanta. But I know a lot of people consider the Longhorns to be amongst the favorites. And then we're talking about some teams that kind of came out of nowhere last year, Ole miss and Missouri who both won 11 games, including their bowl victories, both returned dynamic quarterback. Both have really good groups of wide receivers. Both have, uh, improved on the defensive side. So I, it's funny to not immediately mention Alabama right in that same class as, as Georgia, but I'm a little skeptical given, you know, the, the loss of Nick Saban, the greatest ever do it. Uh, what goes along with, with, uh, the intimidation factor that he brings, uh, I do love Kaylin, the board. I think he's going to be a great replacement, but I don't know if he hits the ground running.
And I think the biggest difference probably is the floor. Whereas with Nick Saban as the head coach, I don't think they were really going to ever lose, you know, more than two games and finished 10 and two. I could see this year's Alabama team with the schedule they have finishing at nine and three, or maybe even that, uh, at eight and four, which would be a bit of a horror show for, for most Alabama fans. Well, Chris, it sounds like, and it pretty much is it's it's the Bulldogs and everybody else, uh, given the expanded playoff this year into 12 teams, who else do you see from the SCC hopping inside, outside of a Georgia? Yeah, I believe, you know, the SEC is going to get four teams in when it's all said and done. You know, I think that Georgia is my number one team. I have Ole Miss at number two and my power rankings, making it to the SEC championship game.
And then ultimately in that playoff field as well. Um, I have, uh, Tennessee as my third best team. I think Tennessee could be this year's Missouri or Ole Miss from last season.
Uh, Niko Iemaliava takes over at the full-time starter now. I think he's a great fit for this Josh Heiple offense, including what he's able to do running the football. He put on about 15, 20 pounds of the off season. So he's a little more durable, but has the size and the arm strength to make every throw in that offense. I think they're better defensively. The big question that I have is in the secondary, but this is going to be one of the better pass rush units in the conference with James Pierce Jr. coming back, uh, a guy that people are, uh, for not decading could be a top five selection in the NFL draft next year. So they're a little bit of my dark horse team there in the, in the third spot. And I, I have Missouri given their manageability of their schedule. I think they, they win another 10 games this year and find themselves in the college football playoff field. Chris Doring is here with us courtesy of the SEC network, a team that has not been mentioned and not too difficult. When you lose a bunch of receivers, you lose a Heisman winner. What do you expect out of LSU this year?
Yeah. I mean, I, I think you have a great situation in Garrett Nussmeier, who's the kind of the exception to the rule. Uh, he waited his turn at the quarterback position, uh, has had moments of getting a chance to play over the last couple of years and steps in with probably more experience than what most, uh, first year full-time starting quarterbacks do.
But I'm with you, you lose two first round, uh, uh, uh, receivers, uh, currently you kind of the only proven target there at the wide receiver spot. I need to know who those guys are going to be to step up and, and fill that void of Malik neighbors and Brian Thomas Jr. Moving on to the NFL. Uh, and then defensively, they were absolutely miserable last year and they did go out and get one of the best, uh, coaching acquisition to the off season and Blake Baker, bringing him over from the, uh, the same position at the defense coordinator spot in Missouri. But, uh, I need to see them be a little more disciplined and a little more talented, particularly in the backend where they were just, uh, brutal last year.
So I, I don't have them in the playoff field, but I think if, if things kind of bounce their way and they can improve defensively, they they're going to have enough offense to, uh, to be in the mix when it's all said. Well, Chris, Brian Kelly, I mean, from the day he showed up in his opening press conference, it seems like people were finding reasons to kind of pick him apart. At what point do people go, okay, we went through one great quarterback and now we have another quarterback.
At what point do people start going, Hey Brian, where are the results? Yeah, I like, I like Brian Kelly. I mean, I think Brian Kelly exceeded all expectations coming in in year one and taking LSU to the FCC championship game against Georgia, uh, last year. Yeah, I think we look at it as a little bit of a down year, but you go back and look, they won nine games, which I was shocked as I was trying to remember how the season went.
All I could think about were the, the defensive issues that they had. Um, but, uh, you know, I, uh, that, that the definition of success is now changing with the FCC eliminating divisions. It can be even more difficult to get to Atlanta for the FCC championship game. But if you can, if you can, you win 10 games, you're even in some cases with the more challenging schedules in our league, you, you win nine, you got a chance to be in the conversation. And, um, you know, last year having Missouri would have been in Ole miss would have been in, I think that really changes the way that a lot of the teams that have not been in the college football playoff mix in years past, see this as a much more viable path to competing for a national championship side. I think you're going to see teams like, you know, Tennessee moved back up into that, you know, Kentucky's had a couple of 10 wins seasons in the last six years under Mark Stoops. I think this is, uh, the most anticipated season that I can remember. You know, I've covered, I've been a part of this league as a fan of the kid, as a player, as a, uh, a media member. Now with the FCC network for the last 10 years, this is the most anticipated season that I can remember in the FCC, uh, in my lifetime.
Chris Doring is joining us, the JR sport B show on the infinity sports network. You said you don't think the transition is going to be all that good or great for Texas. Now, what the hell does that mean for Oklahoma? Yeah, I, it's funny in my power rankings I put out today, I had, um, I had Texas, I think at six and then I think I had Oklahoma at like 11.
I just, I think it's going to be a very difficult transaction, uh, transition. And the thing that stands out, it's obviously a very physical league. The, the cumulative effect of playing week in and week out in this conference is difficult, but the, the mental grind of it is challenging as well. You look at the way that, that Oklahoma finishes the season. They have one of the, the, the most difficult stretches outside of having to play main in that, that last five games that they have, they've got a brutal run that includes, uh, LSU in that list. I believe Alabama late there as well. It's, uh, it's a tough grind for, for Oklahoma. And I, I just, I don't know if they are built on the lines of scrimmage yet to be able to compete in this league, uh, the way that you have to be to, uh, sustain the, the grind of the, uh, the SEC demands.
Well, Chris, what about your school, man? How about them Gators? Yeah, I'm actually high on Florida. Last year at this time, I was picking Florida to win five games and that's ultimately where they landed. Uh, they did let a few late games get away from them. Probably should have won against, uh, uh, Arkansas home last year. Let that one get away with a missed field goal late. Probably should have won against Missouri when they had a fourth and 17 to get off the field and feel the deal.
They can't do that. Uh, so this is a team, even though they were at five wins last year was close to being a seven or eight win team. I do think they made some good, uh, tonight, uh, changes on the, the, the coaching staff on the defensive side, new defensive, uh, line coach, new secondary coach.
Uh, they bring in Ron Roberts to kind of help, uh, with Austin Armstrong overseeing the defense. Uh, and then they added a bunch of veteran guys in the transfer portal, uh, three or four veteran guys that are fourth and fifth year players in the secondary, uh, Paul powered at the linebacker spot comes over from South Carolina. And maybe the biggest, uh, deal of all is getting Graham Mertz back for another year. I know that a lot of people are down on the transfer portal and NIL, but Graham Mertz is what's right about college football. This is his team.
As far as, as he can carry them, they're going to go. And, uh, I think he's one of the guys that should be celebrated about what's good about college football right now. Chris, we got so many changes in college football. What are your thoughts on, on the changes? You talk about this being a highly anticipated season in the SCC. We, we know the big 10 has changed.
There is no PAC 10 PAC 12 PAC nothing. What are your thoughts on the continued evolution? This is very different from even when you play. Yeah. And that's what's scary to me. I'm not a guy that loves change necessarily. I do know the change is inevitable and, and that this is a business now more than it's ever been before, but at the same time, what makes college football so great, what makes the SCC so great is the history, the, the rivalries, the traditions, those things are, are, are important, uh, to sustaining, uh, the next generation of college football fans. And so I, I do think, um, it's going to be important that we're able to retain some of these, these great, uh, games that we've come to love in the past. In the SEC case, you do get to have Texas and Texas A&M renewing that rivalry, which is awesome. There's some familiarity with Oklahoma and Missouri, having been in the big 12 together before Arkansas and Texas was an old, you know, what a Southwest conference rivalry back in the day.
So you get that one renewed. Those are some of the good things, but I do think the playoff expansion is going to help. It's going to help, uh, have more meaningful games played into the season for more teams. And then the scheduling, the out of conference scheduling, I think that's going to be one of the big benefits that we continue to see more power five teams playing one another outside of their conferences, which, uh, you know, I think creates a lot of excitement when you get an opportunity to see some of the games like we do this week with Notre Dame and Texas A&M playing one another Clemson in Georgia, Florida, and Miami. Uh, those are the games that the fans are interested in. And I think, uh, making sure that we remember the fans are the consumer here at the end of the day is important. Yeah. Well, let me tell you something, Chris, as long as we still have a Florida Georgia game in Jacksonville, I think I'll be okay.
That's right. Hey, that's maybe one of the biggest traditions that needs to be maintained. You know, I love the fact that that game has a, uh, a hall of fame, uh, to itself that, that speaks to the importance of that game, but anybody that's ever been to the cocktail party and has seen the visuals coming over the bridge of the orange and blue and red and black and the stadium split 50, 50, uh, knows that that's something really special about college football. And certainly the talk of going home and home, there is something that I hope is nothing more than just talk.
Hey, I'll be looking forward to it. Hey, I know professional Cass Petcher at, at, at, um, at Florida, also in the NFL, I got to ask you about a wide receiver, not a wide receiver, a quarterback for the Colts right now, Anthony Richardson, what, what are your thoughts on, on what he can do and what he's done so far? Well, I love Anthony, obviously he's a, he's a Gainesville boy like myself, born and raised in this area.
And, uh, we, we cheer for him as, as such. Um, and it was a small sample size of him at Florida as a starting quarterback. He's still a young guy, uh, both in terms of age and in terms of his, his football maturation. So, um, there's going to be some bumps and bruises along the way, but, uh, he's, he's one of the most gifted athletes I've ever seen before, incredible arm, uh, the ability to, to elude or break every tackle that, uh, you want to try to attempt.
Uh, the durability is a bit of a question. So he's got to learn, I think, to have a little bit of more awareness of when to get down and when to get out of bounds, but, uh, he's got all the tools. He just needs to get more reps. And I think that's why this preseason has been so important for him. Hey, Chris, I appreciate the time. Where can people follow you and all of your work, the SEC network and elsewhere?
Hey, I'm all over, I think I'm over exposed to some degree. I'm, uh, not getting things up on the SEC network this, uh, this weekend. We get going with a couple Thursday night games, uh, that we'll be covering.
And then, um, also on Sirius XM on the SEC channel 374 and, uh, on Twitter at Chris Doring and Instagram at C Doring 28. Hey Chris, I appreciate the time. Maybe I'll see you down in Jacksonville, buddy.
Sounds good, man. Thanks for having me, bro. It's always a pleasure.
All the time. Thank you so much to Chris Doring. You heard where to find him covers all things, SCC and catch them on the SEC network.
And thank you for the insight. It's the Georgia Bulldogs and everybody else. Shout out to all my folks down the road for me here in Athens, Georgia, 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.
That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, I'm going to get to your calls and talk some more quarterback play, some NFL play college.
And I think there's even more about kind of stallions. We didn't even touch upon Michigan cheaters. You're listening to the JR sport brief. It's the JR sport brief show here with you on the infinity sports network. Thank you so much to Chris Doring for joining us from the SEC network. If you missed the conversation, go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app.
We just had it five minutes ago. Make sure you go ahead and tune in as we look forward to another SEC season here in the South, Georgia at the top, see how Alabama kicks around. What does Jackson Dart do at Ole miss? No. How does Texas or how do Oklahoma and Texas make the transition over?
We'll find out. Thank you so much to Chris Doring for the answers. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.
That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. I need to let you know at this moment about the defensive player of the week sponsored by the Navy federal credit union proudly serves the armed forces, DOD veterans and their families. Their members are the mission.
You can learn more at Navy federal.org. How about this? The best defense is a good offense. Bryce Harper. He was the hero last night in Philadelphia. The man had a walk-off single in the 10th inning as the Phillies beat the Astros three to two. Harper reached base four times in the game in the fields. They won their third straight game as they try to go back to another world series.
8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. David, he's calling from Dallas. David, you're on the JR sport re-show.
What's going on? JR, you're totally wrong on Michigan. They shouldn't get any more punishment at all. They've already got their punishment. You should not be punishing players or coaches who had nothing to do with what happened with Connor Stallions years down the line. It was wrong when they did this to Miami. It was wrong.
SMU, et cetera. Well, thank you, David. I appreciate that. Here's the point. It's the program. That's what it is.
It's the program. Like you got to punish. Somebody has to be held accountable. And if you want to hold anybody accountable, it should be the programs.
It should be the NCAA, but you can't hold them accountable because they never are accountable. Now, I don't disagree at all when it comes to the fact of, oh, well, it's almost the premise and the idea of, well, someone please think of the children. We're not in a world anymore where they're being put. They can get up and leave. Here's the thing.
Things are so messy from the top down. From the organization handing out the punishments, the NCAA. Why do the investigations all have to take, you know, two and three and four years? I mean, we got Michigan getting slapped around and getting threatened with punishments for things that took place three and four years ago.
I agree with that. But I can't get on the board or the train of, but we can't punish the guy. This is a new era, OK?
Don't tell me about no USC and don't tell me about no Miami. This is 2024. You want to know who moves around? Everybody. It's like everybody's picking a new bed partner every five seconds, which I don't advise. It's like, I don't like this team. I'm going to this team. I don't like this one.
I'm going to this one in the way that players move and the teams move and the coaches move. Like, who cares? All right. You cheat. You should get punished. Everybody. Everybody. I'm sorry. Hickey, what are your thoughts, man? I don't I don't care.
Maybe I'm a cold hearted. You know what? But it's not like everybody has a ball in the chain attached to them and now they're stuck in a situation forever. I mean, I agree with the premise of what David said, like it is ridiculous in principle, right, that kids that were not involved in the cheating.
Right. If you were an incoming freshman, why you are getting punished for past transgressions that you had nothing to do with. But if you take what David said and said, OK, well, you can't punish the kids, then you're not punishing the school at all. And then so you're rewarding cheating because there's no punishment. So why would any schools in any rule you have in place?
Because we can't punish the kids that are there now because the ones that cheated are now gone. Well, then every school is going to break every single rule and you and you might as well fold up the NCAA, which is why I go back to think the only thing they'll do is or they realistically can do is take the title away, vacated. No one will actually respect it. But I think it's the only option you have.
Yeah. And I don't think I don't think that's happening. Nobody will give nobody the time of day.
And you bring up an excellent point, because the reason why people keep on doing this is because they get away with it. Jim Harbaugh is putting out statements that are laughable. He's like, oh, I won the championship. I got a new contract. I'm back in the NFL. This is almost like some kid looking through the fence going, na na na na boo boo. Like, what are you going to do? You can't catch me.
And so when you have nothing in place and this is where it is, the investigations take forever, like how difficult is it or was it to utilize any of this in more of an expedited manner? Let me tell you something. There's nothing worse, nothing worse than sitting through. Choose my words carefully here. Nonsense. That's what it is. Nonsense politics, things that can get taken away and taken care of right away. But because of politics, they get bogged down.
Things take forever. Man, we played a clip earlier in this hour where the conestallions basically admitted without admitting that he did it. Did you do anything wrong? Well, I didn't do this. No. But did you do anything wrong?
No, I didn't do this. It's like, hey, did you did you trip your sister down the stairs? She just fell. But did you trip her? I was I was standing there. My foot was. Did you trip her? She fell like, what are we doing?
Like, this is akin to what we just said. We didn't even play all of the clips. Isn't there another one where he was asked about standing on the sidelines?
What was that in central Michigan? He was he said he wasn't. Yeah, this is my favorite one. Did he say he was there? He wasn't. You want to hear? Yeah, let's hear it. Did you attend the Central Michigan Michigan State game on September 1st of twenty three? I don't recall attending a specific game or no.
Well, I know the answer to that because he told me. Yeah, that was Connor on the sidelines. That was Connor on the sidelines. That was Dave Portnoy.
Just just telling all his business. Hickey, I wasn't here yesterday. I wasn't. I don't remember seeing you or talking to you. No, you didn't talk to I wasn't here yesterday. And I'll remember. Yeah.
Yeah. No, didn't didn't happen. I said it's true. It didn't happen. Even though there's evidence, you can go back and hear me reference things yesterday.
You can check boxes. There are people that I spoke to yesterday here on the air. I spoke to Hickey. Man.
It's just the world we live in right now. You could say anything. And if you say it enough times, somebody will believe it. Like what's what could somebody who's a supporter of Michigan even say to this?
Hickey, what would they do? Just lie along with it? You knew they would quote George Costanza. Have you heard this line before? Tell me it's not a lie if you believe it.
Oh, oh, wow. So I think if you believe fans, if you believe it, if you believe they didn't cheat, they didn't cheat. You know, here's a part that really sucks, though. There is nothing in the immediate future that is going to fix any of this. Because to a certain degree, there's there's no oversight. There's no NCA oversight that the conferences don't have power. You take a look at the ACC. We got schools like Clemson and Florida State when they're not losing to Georgia Tech. They're trying to get out of their conference. We got conferences that are shuttering. We have teams that are being lured from other conferences.
We have players who are going whatever the hell they want. This there is nothing. This is just. It's a it's a blank show. That's what it is.
And so me, I got no problem with no punishment. You can't take me back to a UNLV. You can't take me back to a USC. I don't care if it's basketball or foot. Them days are over.
This is like every man for himself right now. And that's what it is. The only guy who doesn't get punished. Is the guy who helped them win the championship. He's the king. It's Jim Harbaugh.
He can claim all the ignorance in the world. He gone. He went to California. He's going to yell at Justin Herbert. He's going to go about his life. Everybody else, you've got to pay for it.
Sharon Moore, congratulations. Cry for Harbaugh now. Oh, he got you the job.
So you still have to kiss his ass. I'm sorry. That's how it goes. It's the J.R. Sport Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break when we come back. We're going to get into some more football, some NFL, and we got another guest. Rob Matty is going to join us from the Associated Press. From the Associated Press, you're locked in the J.R.
