It is the JR Sport Brief Show here on the Infinity Sports Network. I appreciate you listening, all my people on the road, my people at home, my people relaxing, my people working, my people holding it down, my people doing things they got no business doing, even my people that are doing things that are top secret.
Nobody's supposed to know what you're doing. Thank you for listening. We'll be hanging out with you for the next three hours. The show gets started every single weekday. At 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific.
So, that means if you're just tuning in, you already missed an hour. You missed a great conversation with Zach Stevens from DNVR Sports. We talked about Bo Nix and the Broncos and how they might surprise some people this year. We also just heard from Brian Flores. He's just like, yeah, I've learned from the Tua situation. It hurt to hear it, and I'm gonna do better. And if Tua wants to meet or I see him, then I got no problem talking to the guy. And he's happy for the guy, too. That's what he said.
Brief summation. And now we talked about the Falcons again and Rahi Morris saying a little bit more as to why he has not played Michael Pennix Jr., or why he played once and will not play again. Injury concerns, right? Isn't that what everybody says in the preseason? We don't want our guys to get hurt. We don't want them to go down. Okay.
I guess they want the insurance to stay healthy. Kirk Cousins. Anyway, we got so much more to do. Next hour, we're gonna have a conversation with new radio analyst for the Dallas Cowboys, former Dallas Cowboy, a former Super Bowl champ, a former NFL QB, Steve Burline.
He's gonna come through and join us next hour, so that should be a lot of fun. And we have so much more to get into. We got NFL players beefing with flag football players, or maybe it's the other way around.
You heard me right. At least a flag football player is beefing with NFL players and their potential participation in the 2028 Olympics. We got a tennis player. Hickey, this one is interesting. Not a tennis player who did steroids.
Hickey, can you imagine? Interesting. Didn't think the steroids went with the tennis players body of how skinny they are. Well, we'll get into how the steroids got into this guy's body. This is a real interesting one.
You gotta be careful who you hang out with, or at least how they touch you. What happened? That's just interesting. I can't wait.
We'll get into that. And then we have some updates on Brandon Iuc and CeeDee Lamb. Kyler Murray, not a lot of talk about him. He actually complained about it last week. He's like, nobody's talking about the Cardinals, and that's fine. That's good.
Well, get over it. Y'all sucked, and you're coming off of an injury. But he looks good. That's what it said Coach Gannon said, so we'll talk about that. And before you went to break, since we're in this realm of quarterbacks and their development, we talked about Bo Nix, and we even discussed Zach Wilson. Zach Stevens from DNVR Sports said Zach Wilson is actually looking good. I guess when you go to the New York Jets, you're just bound to look bad. Now Zach Wilson looks good. Sam Donald, we'll see what he looks like as the full-time starter in Minnesota. Is he going to stink the joint up?
We'll find out sooner than later. The greatest quarterback of all time, the guy with seven Super Bowl championships, Tom Brady. He actually had a thought about these quarterbacks, these young quarterbacks in a general sense. Tom Brady is actually disappointed in how the NFL is developing young guys, or dare I say, the lack of development. He was chatting it up on Stephen A. Smith's show, and Tom Brady said, man, we could do better.
It hurts my soul. Listen to this. There used to be college programs, now there are college teams. You're no longer learning a program, you're learning a playbook. And the program is ultimately, like at Michigan for me, that was a pro-style program. Five years I got to learn how to drop back pass, to read defenses, to read coverages, to be coached. I had to learn from being seventh quarterback on the depth chart to moving up to third to ultimately being a starter.
I had to learn all those things in college. That was development. Then I went to New England, and I was developed by Coach Belichick and the offensive staff there. I didn't start my first year. I think it's just a tragedy that we're forcing these rookies to play early, but the reality is the only reason why they are is because we dumbed the game down, which has allowed them to play. It used to be thought of at a higher level.
We used to spend hours and hours in the off-season training camp trying to be a little bit better the next year, but I think what happens is discourages the coaches from going to deep levels because they realize the players don't have the opportunity to go to a deep level, so they're just going to teach them where they're at. Damn, Hickey, he really, did you hear, I could hear him frothing at the mouth. It's Tom Brady, really sounds upset. Very, he's passionate about this. He could have gone on for probably 10 minutes. I guess you talk about Tom Brady or talk to him about quarterbacks. He can go on forever, I guess. I think there's one element that he didn't get into because I think everything he said is accurate.
Who the hell am I to argue against him? But I think a big part of it is is financial. There is so much money invested into first round picks right now.
The clock automatically starts it. I think that has to do a lot with it. So there's a couple of things. There's the safety element of the game. The NFL is so predicated on offense right now.
It's ridiculous. Everything is pretty much catered to offense. You got to be careful where you hit this guy and don't hit this guy. Don't pull him down by the waist. You don't have the hip drop tackle anymore. You got to be careful if you hit him in the chin by accident. It's a penalty.
It's crazy. And with good reason, because obviously you want to protect the players. And from an NFL perspective, you want to protect the viability of the game. You want to make sure that the NFL isn't just making overall 20 billion dollars a year. You want to make sure that that inches upwards where there is no way it ends up like, I don't know, like like baseball, where you have to look at it and say, oh, well, we went from being America's pastime and yeah, we can make a lot of money now.
Let's be real. The NFL is America's game today. OK, and it's been that way for quite some time now. So if the NFL doesn't want to lose out on youngsters playing and parents saying I'm not getting involved, if they don't want to do that, they have to continue to change the game and at least have the illusion that it's safer, that they care about safety. I mean, that's one of the reasons that they've even changed the current kickoff, not just because they want excitement back in the game. They want to limit collision.
So that's one part of it. And when you eliminate some of the violence of which the NFL used to market, Hickey, remember the NFL? I mean, some of the weekend shows in the pregame shows would be biggest crunching hits. The NFL NFL films would be violent hits. The NFL sells personality right now. Do you think the NFL still sells violence? Well, unfortunately, they've done away with one of the best segments in NFL history. Do you remember the name?
Well, no, you just got jacked up or jacked up. That was ESPN, wasn't that was ESPN. Oh, could you guys like wobbling off the field? They'd be laughing at. Could you imagine that today?
No, man. People will be calling for their jobs. People are calling for their job. People will be pulling their kids off the football field. I mean, if you were going to market, you know, marketing goes a long way.
You know, whether people recognize it or not. And so with the explosion of offense, I think it is a little bit easier to put a quarterbacks out there and then be we've seen the system change. And he's right.
The college system has changed so much. And you don't have players in one system. And we talked about Bo Nix and where he started off and where he ended up. And I mean, D.J.
Ouyangale, I feel like he's been on five different teams already. Like this is just nuts. And so it's like taking individual talent. It's almost like a basketball system. Yeah, you could be at XYZ school, but we can draft you and just drop you in here and just throw you out there and say, hey, man, we'll try to work with you to figure it out. And so the NFL, they have taken basically the physical capabilities of a lot of the QBs, which happen to be athleticism, the ability to run and scramble and and make something out of nothing, utilizing your legs.
That's that's the game that we have now in the money invested in them is so much. It's hard to just say, hey, man, sit down. Mahomes sat behind Alex Smith. We might not have ever seen Tom Brady if Mo Lewis didn't knock the living hell out of Drew Bledsoe.
I mean, Jordan Love, Aaron Rodgers basically was on like a two to three year fit of tequila and MVP seasons because Jordan Love was behind him. Like it's I think gone are the days of let's draft the guy and develop. And that's it. That's over.
I mean, come on now. We had a whole conversation about Michael Pennix Jr. being selected at number eight overall, despite the Falcons giving Kirk Cousins a four year deal. Tell me how that lines up. Like, how are you going to decide to pay Michael Pennix Jr. if he is not out there playing? You just wasted the pick. You got five years of this guy, five, five. So what is he going to do?
You're just going to throw him out there in year five, pick up his 50 option and then say, oh, well, yeah, let's just at that point give him 60 million bucks, 65 million a year. Like Tom Brady is not you're not telling anything different, but that's that's almost all sports now, isn't it? Haven't we lost. I mean, to use Tom Brady's phrase, he said, did he say dumbed down or am I making that up?
No, he said dumbed down. Haven't we dumbed down a lot of sports? Right. Like basketball. I feel the players and I don't want to I'm not trying to be Dennis Schroeder, you know, 2.0 here. But we see a lack of skill development, certain type of skill development in NBA players. Everything is let's shoot threes. You have fewer guys who can do inside and outside.
That's my reference point. Of course. Of course, nowadays we got seven footers who can dribble a ball, but you put you put you need a basket. You can't do squat. The league doesn't even want you down by the basket.
Right. In Major League Baseball, they are altering the rules because like pitchers, they don't necessarily all know how to pitch. They know how to throw.
Can they work out of a jam? Oh, if I'm not throwing 105, can I can I paint the corners? Probably not in the NFL. Oh, well, the play is busted.
Let me just run around because I'm real fast. Hickey hasn't sports in a general sense. Hadn't it been dumbed down? I would agree with that premise.
Yes. But I would also argue it's been dumbed down in part to let players just play like we've never seen sports in general. Have as many talented and athletically gifted players as we do right now. Guys that can run fast, jump high. And so what do coaches say? We don't want them thinking, just playing. And so part of that is just keeping it simple. Hey, you're going to run fast because no one can stop you.
That's a Nick Sirianni special. Right. Now what he said?
That's exactly right. But like isn't so like I think it does go both ways where it definitely is like there's less at times playing on the sports strategy or, you know, cohesion, if you will. Like we could break down the technical aspects, but also I think in a way it helps bear out more highlight plays like more of a fun watch for us because we are seeing these athletes just show their gifts off on the field. Now, I'm not trying to go back to a football game with the score of six to three or three to nothing. I want some offense, want some scoring.
But I think that I think we're lacking a balance. And I know every sport pick one, any sport. Everything changes its rules just a little bit over time to correct things, whether it's the NBA and what calls or fouls they call and what have you. The NFL, how you can tackle a guy or what is or is not pass interference. Major League Baseball just did a full alteration of their rules more than a year ago.
How large the bags are and the pitch clock and what have you. This is this is all meant to kind of balance out what changes because it's just like everything else, like people adapt. And so if you change a rule, people will say, oh, well, let me get ahead of the curve this way or let me now change it and do this way. And then you've got to do a balancing act. But I think when it comes to sports, I think we need a little bit more more balance. I don't think you've got to put the reins on guys in regards to, well, you can't do this. We need to do it this way.
But it seems like there's an over reliance on pure athleticism and less rounding out as to to skill. And that's what Dennis Shruder said. And, you know, Kevin Durant wasn't wasn't happy about that.
He's like, hey, it's entertainment and IQ. Well, I want both. I don't mind watching. I don't know. Victor Winbenyama shoot threes.
Let me tell you what be interesting for me. If Victor Winbenyama was just like I. Yeah, I'm told as a beanpole, I may not have a low center of gravity. But man, I got a I got a style hook. If you did see me at the hoop, Hickey, could you imagine if Victor Winbenyama started with Skyhooks, could you imagine that? I mean, it's it's probably coming in, what, three years, would you say less than that? You know, it's on its way. He's not going to do it.
Why not add to the repertoire? Could you imagine? Oh, my God. That guy.
If there's one if there's one human being in the world of athletics that I just want to see stay healthy. It's him. It's Winbenyama.
It is I don't know. Is there another more intriguing player from a physical standpoint? I see Zion Williamson lost weight, by the way.
Let's see if he he doesn't gain it back by the time the season starts. Sorry. But is there is there another guy that you really want to see? Like, actually, because he's just a freak in nature. He just is. I mean, the only other guy could really think of is Shohei Ohtani just getting back on the mound. Yeah.
I don't want to get I'm not trying to sound jaded or like, you know, take it for granted. We have seen it. So it's not going to be new, per se, you know, with him, at least in terms of doing both at a high level. We're Winbenyama has the chance with his size and skill set to truly be something we've never seen before on an NBA court. He's he's taller than Kareem. He's taller than Kareem. And he's playing on the outside like Kevin.
It's like if you took Kevin Durant, I think I said this and just stretched him out and then made him more of a defensive player. It's like if you took Manute Bowl, who did Giannis say it? Somebody said it. No, no, no.
Yes. Someone at some point was just like, hey, he could be like Kevin Durant on offense and Rudy Gobert on defense. I don't know if that's what he wants right now, but it's crazy what this guy's doing. You know, I'm I don't want to say I think we've seen the best of Shohei.
Am I sound like I'm kind of whatever. Like he might have a thirty five thirty five season this year. He might go forty forty. But with Shohei, he's already blown his arm out twice.
What more am I expected from this guy? You know, and he might be the MVP this year. So I guess if you're the Dodgers and you have that sort of impact, maybe you're more cautious about him getting back on the mound or limiting his man. You know, you work that man. That's all his arm falls off. OK, you have to pay him two million dollars right now. You got to pay him seven hundred for the next twenty years. Come on, man.
That guy has to earn every dollar. I'd be like, listen, man, go try to pitch. If your arm falls off again, then you just DH for the rest of your life. OK. But outside of that, man, I'm I'm done. I don't want to say I'm done with Otani.
He's just so automatic. I'm no longer the luster has worn off. You know what I'm saying? I just we've seen it like you said, like the novelty is gone.
Again, not to, you know, try to poopoo what he's doing. It's unbelievable. But the novelty is still there with women. Yama and the society. We love the next thing. He's the next thing. Well, there's a few things like actively in sports is a few things that I want to see right now today. I want to see Victor women. Yama stay healthy for a long time.
And I'm not stupid. Is he going to break a foot one day? You're going to twist an ankle?
I don't know. I hope not. But the history of anybody, even these guys now with these 15, 16 year careers, something will likely happen at some point.
I just hope it's nothing major. I want to see him grow and develop and have a long career. I want to see Patrick Mahomes.
And we talked about this a little last night. I want to see him 3P. I want to see him build his own case for being great. I don't want to see the four or five year gap 60. I want to see him be consistent.
And then in baseball, Hickey, forget forget Ohtani. I want to see how long Judge can can keep mashing home runs like this. Are they eventually going to move him to first base? Is he going to be operable as a DH? Yeah, I don't think he's getting.
What is it? Barry Bonds 762, right? I think that's what it is.
I don't think. I don't think Judge is reaching that, but can he stay healthy enough to do so if you take him out the outfield? So if I had a sports wish list for every league, I want to see how many home runs Judge can hit when it's all said and done. I want to see Victor Wambunyama have a long career and how else he can develop.
Skyhook, I don't know. And then, you know, my homes build on that, man. That's that's what I'd love to see. I like it. I think it's a good wish. And hopefully they all come or wish list and I.
Fingers crossed they come true. It's only beneficial for my viewing pleasure. I wish I got something out of it, but. Nothing else.
That's it. Anyway, it's the JR Sportbree show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.
That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Tom Brady not necessarily happy with the development of some of our current quarterback crop. Well, I want to take you to college because there is a quarterback at USC who is taking over for Caleb Williams. There's some thoughts on on what his development will look like now with Caleb gone. And there's an NFL QB speaking injury. I guess he's finally back from his. I'll tell you who that is on the other side of the break.
You're locked in. It's the JR Sportbree show on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sportbree. It's the JR Sportbree show here on the Infinity Sports Network.
Hickey, what happened? I told you I had a sports wish list, right? I want to see Victor and Benyama stay healthy for a long time. Want to see Patrick Mahomes create his own legacy of greatness. I want to see what Aaron Judge can do when it comes down to a home run chase. And what did he just do? What happened? First at bat.
First inning. It's the Guardians to run bomb. You got some powers over there, Jr. Do I? I wish I win the lottery. Is that going to happen? Well, you got to play. Let's see. Maybe buy some numbers tonight and tomorrow you won't be doing the show.
That is a good point. I have to. You got to play the game to be in it, right? Is that how it goes?
You got to play to win. At this point. No, I don't want to see this. We see Austin Riley of the Atlanta Braves.
This man got a broken hand. He's gone for the rest of the season. I know.
I know they stopped pitching Aaron Judge, but at what point do you just. I'm not playing. Hit him. Is that wrong? Not in the arm.
No, I'm not. Come on. Like in the ass. Right. Beat him in the head. Why don't you teach him a lesson? No. And just get him in the ass.
Is that too much? Like you got to beat him. Come on, Hickey. That's baseball. The old school baseball, right? That is old school baseball. You had a home run. Get hit on the shoulder next time.
Hickey, I used to play these video games when I was a kid. Like if there was a guy that came up and I'm like, you know, hey, Frank Thomas, I'm sick of you. I'd hit him. I'd hit him.
It's a video game. You know, I'm not going to know Frank Thomas is going to club me through the screen, but I'd hit him. Well, that's that's part of it. I'm sure if you're a pitcher, what's worse, Aaron Judge hitting a home run or Aaron Judge charging the mount? He's not he's not going to charge them now. Come on. And he's a gentleman. Well, if he gets hit in the shoulder, hit in the head like you're advocating for, you know, I don't think he'll be too nice after all. This Aaron Judge would not hurt a fly.
Come on. I know he's built like a tank. He's not hurting anybody. Good for him.
I don't know what they were feeding him out in California, but this man just hits home. How are they pitching him? I just thought they threw the ball right down the middle. I would roll. I can't I can't aim a baseball like a professional. I'd roll the ball at this point, man.
What am I doing? I mean, the man has the biggest strikes on a baseball. You know, you think you could find maybe a spot where he can't touch. But, well, he's also been that good. I don't have the numbers right in front of me. I still believe he strikes out 23 percent of the time, a quarter of the time.
Right. He still strikes out, not like he was when he first came up. Like, it's crazy. This dude is now in a three hundred plus hitter. He's still striking out a good amount of time is just. Why don't they treat him like Barry Bonds? Especially the rest of that lineup. I don't disagree. I mean, Giancarlo Stanton, I'd rather face him 10 times out of 10 than judge.
Yeah, this is not 20. So the twenty seventeen, eighteen Giancarlo Stanton like this is a is a new day. This is a stand that can't even he can't even trot around the bases after his own home runs.
OK, like that's a sad world, man. Anyway, good, good for Aaron Judge hitting to run home runs and all this other stuff. Hey, you know, speaking of injuries.
Sorry, Giancarlo Stanton, he just had to be the transition point here. There's an NFL player. NFL players do get injured. They play a contact sport.
Baseball's not a contact sport. Kyler Murray is back. Yeah, you heard about it. Maybe you didn't see it last year because the Cardinals. Well, they sucked. I was not sitting around watching an Arizona Cardinals game.
I just sat around and saw the highlights. They went four and thirteen last year. Kyler Murray was coming off of that that that torn ACL the year prior. Must I remind you, Arizona Cardinals gave him forty six million dollars a year. He's under contract through twenty twenty eight, where he will be thirty one years old. Everybody already looks at him as being just a small pipsqueak of a quarterback in the league.
Sorry. That's just the reality. And Kyler Murray was saying last week he notices. How nobody is taking a look at the Cardinals and that all of a sudden that, you know, hey, that's fine.
We're underdogs and nobody's expecting us to bounce back. We know that they drafted Marvin Harris and Junior. That'll certainly be a big target for Kyler Murray to just throw the ball up in the air to. And somebody else who's happy that he's healthy and back is Jonathan Gannon, the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. And he says, I am thrilled that this man looks like he is back to normal. This is what he told Mad Dog Sports Radio from a mental and physical standpoint right now where he's at. Even when he got back last year or even where he finished last year, I think he's leaps and bounds ahead. What I know about the guy, my relationship with him when I when I got this job, his will to win is is extremely high. And if if you detail out and lay out for him what is needed from him to improve himself, the offense and the team, he is 1000 percent willing to do that. So I love the guy because he's done everything that I asked of him and more. And he's been a phenomenal leader on and off the field, not just with the offense, but with the entire team. Man, of course, he feels better. Yeah, the watch Josh Dobbs.
Play half the season. He's a he's a people want to call him an astronaut. He's not an astronaut.
He's just got a degree in space stuff. Is that what it is? Right. Yeah.
I forget the term, but yes, it doesn't doesn't matter. We're not probably not smart enough collectively to do what the hell that guy does. Is he on a team right now? Is he in like NASA?
I don't think so. I have to double check, but I think, yeah, the Vikings signed him to a short term deal. And I don't I feel like I haven't seen him so far in the preseason. I remember. Was it the Vikings or the cards when he went into the team store? They didn't even have his jersey. Oh, had to be the I think it was the Vikings. Oh, no, it was the Cardinals early on in the year.
The Cardinals because they did a bit about it. Yeah, he is currently on the 49ers and that means he will not play. OK. Oh, he's from right. I didn't know he's from Alpharetta. He's from right here. Just just north of Atlanta. He's he's from right here in Atlanta, man.
How about that? You know that they are strong down there and I grown smart, real smart man. If I was this guy, I wouldn't be doing anything. What an astro or an extraordinary Dobbs Foundation. OK, hell of a guy. Now, imagine if he was in college playing for nine years. OK, that guy would be sending us to outer space today. And speaking of college.
This is I don't know why this is too much of a shock. Caleb Williams is no longer at USC. He's thrown for the Chicago Bears.
All right. USC is no longer in the Pac-12 because the Pac-12 no longer exists. USC is now a part of the Big Ten. And so as this team moves on to the next version under Lincoln, under Lincoln, Riley, he's named the starting quarterback, a guy who is speaking of, you know, Kyler Murray finishing last year strong for the cards. Miller Moss is going to be throwing the rock around for USC, which the Associated Press ranked number 23 in their top 25. Think about this. The most I've and maybe anybody has seen a Miller Moss is just highlights in a bowl game against Louisville, where he threw six touchdowns.
And I guess they got no choice. This is a team that went eight and five last year with Caleb Williams, who certain people would say is comparable to Patrick Mahomes. And so what Miller Moss does, the kind of coming up behind him, I have no idea. But Miller Moss, a couple of weeks ago, Big Ten Media Day, he says, you know what, as USC moves and gets better, the most important thing is being selfless. Just really, really clear communication and continue continuing to be selfless. I think when you have so many talented guys on the offense, they all want touches and they all deserve touches.
They all deserve to feel like they're entitled to that. But I think just continuing to maintain that identity of being selfless throughout the skill positions is going to be really important for us week to week, because you never know who's going to get hot that week, who's going to have a huge game, especially with the guys we have in that room. Anyone can break out at any given time. So I think that's really important for us going forward.
Anybody can break out. Well, his quarterback coach, Luke Hord, last week, he said that he's broken out throughout all these practices and training camps. You know, he's doing a great job taking care of the football. That's certainly one thing, obviously, as a quarterback. Naturally, you know, when you're 10 years old and you're in the backyard and your quarterback was the first thing you usually do.
Tell your buddy to go deep. Right. So, you know, I played the position as well. So just taking what the defense gives you is doing a really good job.
Just trust in this progression, trust what he sees and just really just moving the ball down the field and being very, very efficient. Man, Hickey, his first game is against LSU. At least. Oh, man, this is going to be rough here.
This is going to be rough. I mean, for a team that disappointed. And this is the other thing about joining the Big Ten. Like, is USC is USC built for this? Are they built to, you know, rough and tumble at the line of scrimmage? I mean, they just want to throw the ball around. Line of scrimmage is definitely the biggest question for sure. Offensive line, defensive line.
Can they hold up with some of the big boys? Ohio State, Michigan, you know, Nebraska, Wisconsin. A lot of these teams just want to mull you in the trenches.
That's a question. And defensively, too, can USC get any tougher? It's also been a, you know, a struggling point for them. I mean, the good news is, at least LSU week one, they had one of the worst secondaries in college football last year. So they're just starting off relatively easy, I guess. Yeah.
I mean, well, then they got a man. This is the part that I hate about this college athletics. That's it's the schedule, man.
Come on. Like you open up the year against LSU. And then the very next week, the Trojans take on the Utah State Aggies. And then the week after that, they take on Michigan.
It's like, can we can we get any broader of a, you know, a spectrum in regards to the competition here? And so the schedule goes as follows for USC after that. They go Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Penn State. You got you got Maryland Rutgers and Rutgers should be better.
Hickey, I'm going to laugh. Well, no. Rutgers is on the road, so no Rutgers will lose.
Then they go to Washington. All right. Nebraska, UCLA, Notre Dame. Hickey, they might have the same damn record they had last year.
It might have struck my shoulders at this point. I don't know. Yeah, I think you would sign up for eight wins. Yeah, I think that's what it's going to be. I'd love to see what the the Utah State score looks like. And then even with all of the changes, if you want to call them changes, I guess you can at Michigan. I'd love to see what that Michigan store looks like as they make it to the big house. That'll be one to watch.
This is this is Hickey is just coin flips like, OK, is this going to be a real ass whooping or is this going to be a real bad one? Good luck to Miller Moss as he tries to pick up the slack that Caleb Williams left behind. And look at what he did. Didn't do anything.
Couldn't move the whole team. The J.R. sport we show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break when we come back. I'm going to give you an update on a couple of wide receivers, a wide receivers who want money.
They want the cash and C.D. Lamb and Brandon. Are you give you an update on that? You are listening to the J.R. sport brief. It's the J.R. sport we show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.
That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. In a few seconds, I'm going to give you some updates on the contract negotiations for both Brandon Ayuka, the forty niners and C.D. Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys. They haven't signed yet, but I'll provide you with a little bit of an update before I do that. I need to let you know about the defensive player of the week sponsored by the Navy Federal Credit Union, who proudly serves the armed forces, DOD veterans and their families. Their members are their mission.
You can learn more at Navy federal dot org. Last night, Gavin Stone of the Dodgers. He got busy. He stonewalled the Mariners bats. He threw seven innings of shutout baseball as L.A. won a three to nothing. Stone allowed just two hits. He struck out 10 and he won his 11th game of the season. Nice to see that the Dodgers have a healthy human being who can go out there and throw the baseball for now. Well, the Dodgers in the midst of this season, trying to go on another World Series type run here.
NFL teams are getting ready to start their seasons up. And as I told you, we still have a few players who are the absent. Thank you. Remember that?
Remember, they actually used to do attendance in school. Remember that? Oh, yeah. Here. Ryan Hickey here. Yeah.
Does anybody do they still do that now? Do you have to sign in some stupid digital thing? How do we notice? I bet you it's electronic electronic, right?
Push a button. Facial recognition. Facial recognition. When you walk in a classroom, probably they know if you're not here because your face didn't get scanned. I'm sure a note immediately gets out to the sent out to the parents.
Oh, my God. I was thinking about college. High school. I feel like as I as I got older, I don't not necessarily older, but I feel like people didn't really care about attendance as I got older.
They didn't care. I was a jerk one day in college. Oh, I had a professor. I'm in I'm in school. I'm paying for this at this point. I had a professor ask me, hey, you know, Mr. Jackson, why don't you hand in your assignment?
And I just said, well, I calculated it on the syllabus and I did this and I did that. And I said, I don't need to do it. What a smart ass I am. Right. Damn.
Yeah. I said, hey, what's what's five less point? This is one of the professors that everything had a had a numeric value to it. So if you didn't do this paper or this assignment, then it'd be less five points off your total grade.
And Hickey, I decided, man, I don't need these thick at five points. I'm going to get my degree anyway. And so I just didn't do it. And the professor just looked at me and just like, well, now you have to do it.
And what am I what am I looking like arguing with the professor, you know? So, wait, he made you do it. I had to do it. Yeah. And he or she I don't remember who it was.
I don't know. I mean, you kind of played the system. If anything, the professor played themselves by this system that allowed if you do enough work at the end, just to mail it in. Well, I mean, but who am I to argue with the professor? You know, I don't want that.
What's to do that? I got better things to do, like leaving. You know, I'm not going to sit here and argue with you about what work I need to do.
And you want me to do the stupid thing? Then fine. The next time, don't tell me how much everything is worth. I mean, to be one thing, if you were like, hey, this one test at the end of the semester is going to be worth half your grade. And I just mailed that in and said, screw it, then I'm an idiot. But if you're telling me this is worth five percent and I got a choice of either not doing it or minding my business, I'm going to mind my business. Screw you and your paper. OK. Anyway, I guess I took the L either way. Here I am.
And I showed up to work or I showed up to school most of the time. These gentlemen are not at work. And if they are, they're not doing anything.
C.D. Lamb is not at work. He's not at all. He's not with the Dallas Cowboys.
You probably heard some of the rumors. He wants the same amount of money as Justin Jefferson. Basically amounts to thirty five million dollars a year. It's been reported the Cowboys have only offered him a thirty three.
Now, that is probably a slap to the face when you think about their numbers and how comparable they are, even with Justin Jefferson. Yes. Missing a good majority of last year or a portion of last year. And so you want an update on what the hell is taking so long?
Ari Myra, thirty thirteen. This is what he had to say about the situation. Not even really about the money as much as it is the years, the contract years.
And we look at these two sides, they look at it very, very differently. The Cowboys historically been they love doing long term deals. And the reason for that is when they do that, they have more control over the player on the back end of contracts. When everything becomes team friendly and you look at a pair like Tyrone Smith, that was an eight year contract. Zach Martin, when they extended him, that was a six year contract.
Now, from C.D. side, he has this agent. His name is Tori Dandy. Tori Dandy is known around the NFL for doing shorter term deals.
And some of his clients include D.K. Metcalf, three year extension. Deebo Samuel, three year extension.
Hassan Riddick, who's in the news right now, when he was a free agent, three year deal of the Eagles. So both sides have two different viewpoints on this. Once one side wants shorter years, another one wants longer years. And that has been the holds up. But I do believe, Ben, this will be showing up.
Come on, man. He ain't missing no games for the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, he'll be at work. And besides Ari giving us the scoop on C.D. Lamb, Adam Shuffter got a scoop on Brandon Aiyuk. Does he want to stay? Does he want to be traded? Oh, my God.
Listen to what he had to say. And we are now under three weeks away from the regular season opener to where the 49ers are hosting the New York Jets. Now, the 49ers know that they need Brandon Aiyuk out there. He's made a lot of plays for them over time. He has had a great run and they want to get the deal done. They've made him multiple offers to try to keep them. But for whatever reason, that deal hasn't gotten done. And that has allowed other teams to enter the fray with trade conversations. And so I think we're at the point now where we're going to start to get a push here to see how this winds up, how it's resolved.
And I think the 49ers would like to keep them, want to keep them. I still think that's the more likely scenario. But to think that there's any likely scenario of this particular situation would be a mistake. Yeah, he was chatting it up on Pat McAfee show. We've known this.
Like, did anybody really sweat the fact or the idea or the possibility that C.D. Lamb would end up elsewhere? And he's not. Where is he going to go?
Nowhere. You'll get his money. He'll show up for work. You'll pay him. Dallas Cowboys are just trying to play hardball.
They're just being difficult. In the case of Brandon, are you this man has now had a chance and an opportunity for the better part of three weeks for a month to be moved and be traded. And it's been his option. He hasn't gone anywhere. He'll stick around with the 49ers. Just a little open contract negotiations, even though he did it through social media, whining and complaining like a baby. Let's see if he gets what he wants.
30 mil, 28 mil, 32 mil. We'll see. And maybe if you're C.D. Lamb, you want to see what they give Brandon.
I mean, if you're C.D. Lamb, you might as well take this all the way to the final hour. Either that or just hope that you get the thirty five. He'll show up.
I think they'll give it to him. Thirty five. The JR sport we show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break when we come back.
Hey, how about this? A former NFL QB, a Cowboys analyst. And Steve Berlin is going to join us next hour. And speaking of people showing up, flag football is going to show up at the Olympics in twenty twenty eight. And there's some NFL players who want to participate. I'll tell you who don't move.
