Jim was at the laundromat when he heard his ear said maracas senor but his nose said hey freshest scent ever. Following his nose, Jim found a man pouring gain scent beads into the washer. The scent, the freshness. Jim blurted sir your scent maracas smell amazing. You could call them scent maracas but most noses call them gain scent beads. Try gain scent beads.
Way fresher than detergent alone. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Coming to you live from Atlanta Georgia. Thank you to super producer and host Ryan Hickey.
He's holding it down for us on the boards in New York City. Hope you're having a tremendous Friday. Wherever you're at, whatever you're doing, I hope you good. I hope you're safe. I hope you're well.
All right. This show gets started every single weekday at 6pm Eastern, 3 Pacific. We've already had a busy, busy show and it's about to get busy and bigger. We got a legend joining us in about 20 minutes. A U.S. soccer legend is going to join us. Clint Dempsey will be here in 20 minutes. I want to ask him about what happened with U.S. men's national team coach Greg Berhalter.
They gave him the boot. I'm going to ask him what players we need to watch. I'm going to ask him what do we need to do as a country to get better at soccer. This man is in the Hall of Fame. He played in Europe.
He came back. Clint Dempsey is going to be here. It's going to be fun. We've already had an amazing guest.
Thank you all so much. Jared Diamond joined us last hour. Covers baseball for the World Street Journal. And we were able to talk about the home run derby, the trade deadline. And yes, of course, and yes, of course, Paul Skeens, the guy who's going to start for the National League, the guy who only has 11 career starts in Major League Baseball and was pitching in college a year ago. Life goes fast. At least for him, life is flying by. The guy was named the starter for the All-Star game.
We haven't seen a rookie start the All-Star game for any of the leagues since 1995 when Hideo Nomo did it for the Dodgers. Man, Hickey, if somebody needs to check on Nomo, how's that guy's back? You know, is his back OK?
I hope so, man. That's one injury that is just, you tell it, crippling for the rest of your life. Back injury just affects everything.
It's awful. Yeah, but it was the wind up like I never saw one. Nobody ever saw a wind up like that ever. The guys stood on the mound, one leg corkscrew stand back.
I hurt every time I watch them. I need to see what the hell Nomo is up to. But congratulations to Paul Skeens getting the nod, getting the start. We'll hear about him in a second. And of course, some other big news that took place a few hours ago. The world learned that Jalen Brunson is a he's a businessman.
He is and he's he's he's believing in himself because Jalen Brunson, the one time All-Star for the New York Knicks, could have been a two time All-Star. This man decided to sign a four year contract extension worth one hundred and fifty six million dollars when he could have signed a five year two hundred and sixty nine million dollar contract next year. He left one hundred and thirteen million dollars on the table. He wants to be a Nick.
That's something that not a lot of people have said over time. He wants to be a New York Nick. Hey, I guess on the bright side, in twenty twenty eight, he can sign a contract worth three hundred and twenty three million dollars. And how about this? In twenty twenty nine, he could sign a contract worth four hundred and eighteen million.
I might collapse. Hickey, one day I'm going to read these numbers. How much is Otani getting? Seven hundred million. Seven hundred mil with what?
Six hundred and eighty deferred? Yo, this this is making like two million a year. You got like 18 million coming for the next.
Well, yes, seven hundred million dollars over the next 20 years, basically. Yeah, not bad. Like what am I doing? Hickey, I got I got no shame in my game. I'm going to rob a bank. OK, I just said it on the air.
I'm going to rob a bank. This is impossible. Are you sure? Yeah, I don't know if you want to say that. Maybe say you're going to fall into money, but not say how you fall into money. Hope the cops in Georgia are not listening. Wire fraud? I guess that how can you? You're right. I can't rob a bank and just walk out with, you know, that amount of money. I have to get it on a wire somewhere.
And you got to wash it, you know, most of the money. Excuse me. You know, accomplice, accomplice. No, no, no. I'm just saying I'm like O.J., if excuse me, if you were to do it, here's how you would do it. You got to be careful. That's all I go. I'm like O.J.
No, no, you know, I do not want to be like that. And by the way, you know, ESPN in memoriam, they did not acknowledge O.J. Simpson during the SBS last night. Did you see that? I did notice that, yes.
They were like, no O.J., no O.J. for ESPN. Interesting.
I'm not mad at him. You know, let's talk about the SBS later on in the show as well. It seemed that the SBS were based around women's empowerment.
Serena Williams hosted the SBS last night. Unfortunately, a lot of the huge stars that you would typically expect to see were not there. Team USA Basketball, they're not there.
These guys in Abu Dhabi. There was no Patrick Mahomes. Anybody who was hoping for even a sight of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, they were not there. But all things considered, I was on the air while the show was on.
I can only read the reviews. I didn't go back and watch three hours of SB. So no thank you there. But anyway, eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven is the number. That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.
You know, life is all about beginnings and ends. Right. So you got a guy and Paul Skeans that we talked about.
This man is just basically shot out of a cannon. He's at LSU last year. He's winning this. And now he gets drafted and he's the best guy.
Number one. He doesn't even get to to June, March, April, May. He gets to May and he gets a call up into the big leagues. And then all of a sudden now he's starting the All-Star game for the National League. He has started 11 games. He has a record of six to know his era is one point nine. He has eighty nine strikeouts in sixty six innings.
And as I said. He's the first man to start the All-Star game since he Dale Nomel did it as a rookie in nineteen ninety five. I want you to hear this because earlier today Paul Skeans. Well, he was on the Dan Patrick show and Troy Lovello, who represents the Arizona Diamondbacks as their manager. He's managing the All-Star game because they went to the World Series. He kind of popped up on the interview and sort of Lovello. He basically told Dan Patrick and Paul Skeans.
You're getting a ball open a game. Listen to this. We've just received a call from Arizona Diamondbacks manager. Tory Lovello wanted to check in with you and Paul. What's up, Dan? How are you doing this morning? Good. Good. I'm conducting an interview here. What's going on?
Yeah. Well, I look at I thought it was my time to just butt in on a really special moment. I could see you guys were having your special time.
But Paul, first of all, how are you doing? I just wanted to congratulate you. I've chosen you to be the starter for the nationally in the twenty twenty four All-Star game. I'm really, really excited for you. Unbelievable honor and one that's so well deserved.
A round of applause. Thank you, sir. That's that's unbelievable. That's awesome. Mr. Enthusiasm there. Well, anyway, Paul Skeans said more than that's awesome.
Listen to more of his reaction to being named the starter for the National League. That's cool. That's really cool. Yeah. Do you ever get really excited like crazy? Like, that's a big deal.
You're starting the All-Star game. Like you want to call your parents. You want to call anybody right now? Yeah, I think my parents are watching the show right now. But so but, you know, I'll give them a call after.
Yeah, but that's cool. I'll probably get more excited leading up to the game. Hopefully have hopefully have a full night's sleep before. But yeah, I haven't I haven't put much thought into it because I've been getting asked about it a little bit.
You know, the past few days and I haven't given given much much thought into it just because I had, you know, the game yesterday, obviously, too. So now I can focus my attention on that. And that's pretty dang cool. Yeah, Paul Skeans is 22 years old.
Okay. It's like, you know, I'm not that he's a teenager, but do people get excited about things? I'm not I'm not an excitable guy. I'm not not at all. I'm excited here on the radio. But if you catch I'm not I'm just I'm relaxing.
I'm out of my business. Paul Skeans is I understand the part he may not sleep. He's going to be up all night the night before. And Hickey, it says LSU gymnast Livvy Dunn, is she going to be there? Of course.
Come on. What else is she going to do? She has to go and take selfies, right? Got to be there to support your man.
That's a big deal. He may not say so, but I'm sure she knows. Is she going to support him or to take selfies? I'm not going to pretend to know them. It seems like they like each other.
I'm going to say she's going to be there first and foremost to support him. They like each other more than the other young lady likes Belichick. Yes, I would say that is absolutely accurate.
Okay. And that that young lady is only a year older than Paul Skeans. That just makes it so. I mean, hey, it's another stat to make it weird or why not? Why not?
Hey, listen to Lavello explain why he has Skeans starting the game. Listen. So well deserved. And we're super excited to make this announcement. And, you know, you represent so many great things that this game craves. You know, it's such a great story.
The way you've come on the scene, the way you've done it with such humbleness, it's noticeable. And, you know, I'll be honored to be your manager and I'm going to be honored to be watching you throw your first pitch. Super excited about that. Uh huh.
Good for him. I'll be watching from here in the studio. That's how it goes. I got to watch all the games on the studio. 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27.
That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. You know, Paul Skeans is starting his career off. And in some other news that came down the pipe today, I had to chuckle when I saw this. LeBron James. And this is not a bold proclamation on his part, so don't shoot the messenger. He was asked about it. LeBron James let everybody know the world's worst kept secret. By the time Los Angeles gets the next Olympics in 2028, LeBron James will not be participating in the Olympics, OK? You don't have to worry about 43, 44 year old LeBron James being in the Olympics because he said for that week, that month, he's not going to be anywhere near Los Angeles. I want you to take a listen to this report earlier today from the Today Show.
I believe this is Drew Weissholz. Listen to this. You won Olympic gold in 8. You won Olympic gold in 12.
You didn't have to do this. Why did you decide to suit up one more time for Team USA? Team USA has given a lot to me.
So I feel like, you know, it's an opportunity for me to give back. You know, he'll be 40 next season, still going just as hard as he did 20 years ago. He did tell me, though, that this will be his last Olympics. Yeah. Why the hell? Hickey, what? He was on the team that went and lost.
He was a rookie. Like, do we need this? And by the way, Hickey, did you see Diana Taurasi a little hurt? She I mean, we got a couple of weeks. Could you imagine if Diana Taurasi can't play and they throw Kaitlyn Clark in it? From someone who seemingly was a catalyst to keep her off, that would not go over too well from her.
From her, I would guess. That's called karma. Wouldn't it be karma? Yeah, you could say that.
That'd be karma. Anyway, LeBron James don't need to do. LeBron James is probably going to win another Olympic gold. Like, he doesn't need to play in Los Angeles.
He has the right idea. When the Olympics come to Los Angeles, leave. Good idea, LeBron. Leave. And if you're LeBron James, he can go anywhere on planet Earth.
Leave. Hickey, you you want to go to the Olympics in L.A.? Actually, yes. I would love to go.
Oh, I like the Olympics. Were you not expecting that one? No. Have you been?
Yes. I actually had gone to the Olympics in 96. I actually had gone to the Olympics in 96 in Atlanta.
Now I was two years old. So, like, technically I was there, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend I remembered any of it. Sure.
Yes. So I have technically been to the Olympics before, but I'd like to go and actually, you know, remember what I'm watching. Ah, Olympics are fun. In L.A., it's going to be interesting. It's going to be interesting.
The terrain and travel in Los Angeles. How they do that, I have no idea. I would imagine they're going to have I don't even know.
I guess you got to do that. No, they're going to probably have basketball at. What's this new thing that this man is building? Oh, the four unknown at the forum, the Intuit Dome.
They're going to probably have basketball at the Intuit Dome. So unless I'm living over there, staying over there, man, trying to get anywhere. Oh, my God. Oh, man. Maybe by the time we get to twenty twenty eight, we'll have human drones. I don't know.
But that's going to be a doozy. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Lee is calling from Cincinnati. You're on the JR Sport Show.
What's up, Lee? Hey, thanks for taking my call, JR. First of all, what I have to say about Paul Skeans and Libby Dunn. Yeah, they both went to LSU, but that stands for Loser Supreme University. They can't win anything at the university level at the collegiate level, man.
That's one thing that stinks about them. You know, I mean, they're both great players and LSU puts out so much great talent, but they just can't ever seem to win anything as a team, unfortunately, which is horrible because they're part of the Superior Elite Conference in the SEC. You know what I'm saying? LSU was just in the championship last year. They were in a chip. Did they win it in baseball?
Yes. Well, then I stand corrected, holy cow, because I do know that LSU lit me up like a Roman candle when I pitched in college. I just always wondered why they couldn't win when they had Ty Walker had OK, well, you know, we don't we don't need to we don't need to go through this, bro. Just get to your next point before I hang up. My next point was I got a way that three people can get into Fort Knox and get all the gold out of there.
I can't release it on the air, but I've got a great plan, my man, if you want money. Oh, OK. Thank you, Lee, for watching Die Hard. Appreciate you for calling from Cincinnati.
Thank you. Why this man call up and make it tell a whole lie. But also, I think Lee's a Florida fan. They beat Florida last year, is it? I don't remember what that guy I don't remember what they got. I thought I referenced that last hour and this hour as well.
You talk about Paul Skeans being a winner at LSU last year, getting drafted, going number one overall. Did all of that go over Lee's head? Does he know what year it is? I hope I mean, I don't know. I think I don't know. I think we might have to skip this day in sports. Maybe that's confused.
You know, maybe the end of the show has confused Lee. It's not this day in sports history yet. This is what year we in Hickey. Twenty, twenty four.
Twenty, twenty four. OK. Oh, my God. Don't don't don't come on air and give misinformation. Don't don't do that, Lee. We don't want that anyway. Hickey wants to go to the what are we talking about? You want to go to the Olympics in twenty eight in Los Angeles.
How about you know what? America, we got some big things coming up. Twenty, twenty eight. We have the Olympics.
Twenty, twenty six. We have the World Cup. USA got it big. And so what we are going to do is take a break. And when we come back on the other side, we're going to talk to someone who has competed in multiple World Cups, three World Cups. We're going to talk to someone who is tied for the most goals ever with Landon Donovan on the U.S. men's national team. We're going to talk to a legend, one of the most accomplished players to ever kick a ball for America. Clint Dempsey is going to join us on the other side of the break. Yeah, we're going to talk some footy, some soccer.
I'm excited about the global games. You're locked into the J.R. sport re-show here on the Infinity Sports Network. Clint Dempsey coming up.
Don't move. You're listening to the J.R. sport brief. It's the J.R. sport re-show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network.
We're going coast to coast. And right now we're being joined by a U.S. soccer legend. We're talking about someone who's in the National Soccer Hall of Fame. We're talking about someone who's appeared in multiple World Cups.
We're talking about the U.S. men's national team's top leader goals. It's Clint Dempsey. Clint, how are you, man? Man, how you doing?
I got no complaints. And thank you for taking the time to join us on behalf of DraftKings. A little disappointing of a time to have you joining us right now. We know the U.S. men's national team got bumped out of Copa America and Greg Berhalter got bumped. What are your feelings?
I've heard them, but for the listeners coast to coast, what are your thoughts on what is taking place over the last few weeks? Yeah, I mean, first of all, credit to Greg Berhalter for after we didn't qualify in 2018, taking a young group of players during qualifying process, qualifying for the World Cup in 2022 and getting out of that group. But then for me, there just hasn't been enough progression since then. And anytime you're in a major competition, especially on home soil, and you don't get out of the group, heads normally roll. When I think back to 2006 playing in the World Cup in Germany, we weren't able to get out of the group.
And after the tournament, Bruce Arena was fired. So that's just part of the game. That's how it goes. And if you're a player and you don't perform and you're not doing well, guess what?
You don't get called in anymore. So that's just part of the game. So, yeah, I mean, it's just it's difficult to trust a coach. If you're on home, so in a major competition, you'll get out of the group and you got the 2026 World Cup coming up. I mean, I think that's one of the most important, like major competitions that be able to be in in terms of what it can do for this country. But I think back to what it did in terms of starting the MLS and people believing that they could go and play professionally at the club level. I'm curious to see like what could happen in the World Cup in 2026 in terms of how that can help development and make the game better in the States. Well, Clint, we saw what happened just even with your career. You talk about the starting of the MLS with the revolution, then being able to go over to Fulham and ultimately come back this way with the Sounders and World Cups.
You've had that that full experience for our listeners who aren't as familiar. How important is it? How valuable is that experience to go overseas, do some learn and see what the global game is about and then bring it back to the States?
I think it's just important to do what is best for you and your development, right? For me, I wanted to play against the best players in the world and the best leagues in the world. And for me, I got the opportunity to play in the Premier League against some of the best players in the world. So I enjoyed my time there, was able to be over there for six to seven years and then had the opportunity to come back and be closer to home and be around my family and continue to grow the game in the States when I was when I was 30.
So everybody has their own path, right? And you just got to make sure that you're playing regularly for your team. And if you're playing in the best leagues in the world and you're playing consistently, it's only going to make you better when you get called into the national team. US soccer legend Clint Dempsey is here with us coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network, the JR Sport Reshow. You know, with Greg Berhalter now gone, they made a call to Jurgen Klopp. I guess he's still on the beach. He still wants to relax. What would be the next best option, especially with the World Cup being two years out?
I mean, that's not my job. You know what I'm saying? Like US soccer, they got that pressure on them, right? They they after the last World Cup, they had a coach search for manager search, felt that Berhalter was the man they still wanted to go with. Now they decided to part ways.
Now there's not much time. I think they're talking about getting a new manager in by September. And yeah, that's that's on them to make the right choice. And I hope they do a great job because I'm a fan of the US soccer. My kids are fans. We watch the games. We want them to do well. But it's on them to figure out a way to find a manager who's going to get the job done to get this get this team out of the group stages and into the knockout rounds and doing something special.
Well, Clint, you talk about that. That's two years from now. We know the Olympics are only a few weeks away.
What can we look forward to between now and then? For the US team, for the Olympics or for the full team? USA, the team that's coming up.
Oh, man, that it's a tough one, right? Because you look at the strength of schedule and it's it's not that great. The next three games that they have, no disrespect to any of these teams, but it's Canada, New Zealand and Panama.
I think ever since covid, the strength of schedule hasn't been the best. There's too many competitions where we play against each other. So whether it's CONCACAF Nations League, whether it's Gold Cup, whether it's World Cup qualifying, which we don't have to do this time around, you're playing the same teams from your region. You're not playing enough teams outside of it.
And this was our last true chance to test ourselves in Copa America against top competition from South America. So. Man, it's it's a tough one, man, it's it's it's how you test yourself if you're not playing against the best.
And for me, that that's that's hard to do. Clint Dempsey is joining us here, the JR Sport Brief Show. It seems like the program is in a little bit of of stasis from how you view the rest of the world. What can we do when it comes to to play style? Is it the players? Is it the coaching? Obviously, there's a combination.
How can we at least continue to inch forward? Yeah, I mean, you see more academies where you don't have to pay to play, which is given just whoever's the best. Kids or players, the opportunity to play and money not be an issue, but it's also developing, you know, coaches and players of different types of styles and not creating the same player where, you know, they're not afraid to take risks. They're not playing for, you know, midfielders who are just playing side to side and backwards instead of sometimes getting on the half turn and breaking lines, whether through the dribble or through passing or you having outside midfielders or wingers that are taking players one v one, whether you have center backs who are comfortable with passing out of the back or keepers go to speed passing out of the back. I mean, it's just developing.
All types of players to make that perfect recipe to be successful, so hopefully we can continue to work on our development of our youth and create those those players that can be difference makers, because the hardest thing to do in the game is to create goals and we need more players doing that. US soccer legend Clint Dempsey is here with us, the JR sport ratio coast to coast. You know, you reference 1994. It's crazy how fast time flies. We're pulling up on 2026. America is going to be hot for the sport, paying attention.
Hopefully we can have a better situation as we get closer. Just when you think about the explosion, could you have ever imagined this where we got stadiums? 60,000 in Atlanta.
You played up in Seattle. We see the stadiums being built in the Kansas cities, the Cincinnates, the Columbus's, New England is it's crazy. Could you have imagined things would have accelerated this fast? I mean, you would have hoped, right? But yeah, I mean, anytime that things move in a positive direction and get better in terms of growth, it's always exciting and you're happy to see that, right?
I remember playing in certain stadiums with, you know, hardly anybody showing up or playing in international games where you have more fans for the other team than yourself. So it's still a work in progress. There's still more to accomplish. There's still a better product that we can put on the field.
I think, you know, there's still room to grow. I'm happy where things have where they've gone from, but I hope they continue and I hope we continue to create better product on the field that will make that fan experience for everybody just better because it will create a better energy in the stadium, which you'll see, you know, better play on the field. Clint, it's crazy when you also think about technology and how that's helped grow the games, whether it's video games or streaming, being able to watch any match at any time and even technology when it comes to training youth and being able to track your progress.
This is very different from when you got started, man. Yeah, I mean, I think there's a balance to it, right? Like you see people with the GPS and heart rate monitors on when they play. I don't think it's something that you need to have on every game. I think it's something that's important to get you a baseline of when you're fit, you know, what are the distances that you're covering and what is your heart rate at in terms of your fitness levels and how fast you run in terms of when you have an injury and you're trying to come back. But for me, I didn't like wearing that stuff all the time in every single game.
It just didn't feel comfortable for me. And I feel like if you're not using the data in the right way, then what's the point? I think a lot of times there's just people that are overdoing stuff on the technology side rather than what needs to be done on the playing side. I think you need to focus on both. I think it's important to use technology to make you better.
But at the same time, you can't try to hide the other with trying to push that in the forefront. I think the quality on the field and how you play and how you develop and the style in which you play, the tactics that you use to win games is the most important thing. U.S. soccer legend Clint Dempsey sealed us as we start to wrap things up.
You talk about development. Who are some of your favorite U.S. players to watch that Americans are going to find out more and more about over the next several months and dare I say even years as we head to 2026? Even though the players are barely older than me, I remember being in high school watching them play, whether it was Beasley or Landon Donovan and how well that they were playing at such a young age. When I think back to 94 though, players like Tab Ramos and then when I got into the national team, players like Claudia Reyna.
But you know, for me growing up, I really was influenced by the South American style. So whether it was like Ronaldo, whether it was Ronaldinho, whether it was Danielson, whether it was Raquel May, Valderrama. I mean, there's so many different players that you've got to watch play that you could take something from their game to add to yours. So I just think it's important that you don't just limit yourself to looking at your own national team players. You look around everywhere and figure out, you know, what's the little bits of their game that you want to add to yours to make yourself the best player that you can be. So I think it's important to always educate yourself and to watch different styles and figure out the reason why you play the game and why you love it and practice that and pick up and then bring it into the higher level stuff so that you're playing the style that you want to play.
Because if you stay true to yourself, man, I think you'll go a lot further than if you're trying to be what other people want you to be. Well, Clint, we know you certainly watch everything and analyze the game on Fox Sports. You do so much. Tell us about your current work with DraftKings. Phyllis N, what's up?
Yeah, man. Been doing a little work with DraftKings. Anytime you can help fan engagement and bring excitement around the game, but do it in a responsible way. I've been doing a lot of responsible way. You know, they've got a promo coming up, a draw breaker promo for COPA and Euro final matches that if the game ends in a draw, you can get your money back. So it's like a bonus bet for when the match ends in a draw.
So just happy to help bring excitement around the game, grow the game, but just as long as it's done in a responsible way. I hear that. Who you got on Sunday?
Can you tell us? Man, it's a tough one, right? For Euro or COPA, in the finals, man, they can go either way. I mean, I think the best team throughout for the Euros has been Spain, but you can't look past England. And in terms of COPA, it's hard to root against the current champions in terms of they won the last COPA, the last World Cup, Argentina. But if you're talking about the most informed team, it has to be Colombia. They're on a 28 game unbeaten streak.
I think that they broke a record by getting that win against Uruguay. So you know how it goes. It can go anyway in those finals, man. I just hope it's a good game.
People are excited to watch and, you know, it continues to grow the game in the States. Hey, Clint, I appreciate that. Where can people follow you and all your great work, man? Man, I don't know about all the great work. I wouldn't say it's great what I do, man. But, I mean, right now I'm doing stuff with Fox.
I also got a kick in the show with CBS that we do. But yeah, man, if you want to see what I'm up to, I'm probably out hunting or finishing or golfing, man. That's what I'm doing these days, chasing around these kids. Hey, we got the legend, Clint Dempsey here, Wes. I appreciate it.
Get back to the hunt. I appreciate you taking the time out. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief.
It's the JR Sport Brief show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much to a legend. Thank you to Clint Dempsey for joining us in the last break.
This man is tied with Landon Donovan for the most goals in U.S. men's soccer history. That's some big stuff. And yeah, we're growing. Our sport, or the sport is growing here. He's at the top of the heap. Good for him. I appreciate him taking the time to come through and talk to us about football, soccer, its development. I'm like everybody else. I'm just waiting on the day when we're better.

And Emma Jane is the highest grossing female jockey ever. 90 million dollars. Hickey, you want to buy a horse? I'd love to. That'd be fun.
You going to make 90? I hope so. Yeah, I hope so too.
Why can't hope, right? I mean, well, she's the only woman who's done it. I mean, well, that's going to be an interesting conversation. I want to I'm going to learn a lot.
We'll chat with Emma Jane Wilson next hour. Hickey, you already said that you were you would like to get out to the Olympics in Los Angeles. Are you going to go out to any of these World Cup matches in two years here in the States? Probably not.
If you're being realistic, probably not. Whoa, why not? I'm just not a big soccer guy and it's going to cost an arm and a leg. I'm not going to travel, so I'm not going to. No disrespect Atlanta or Kansas City, whatever it may be, hosting a game for the U.S. So I'm stuck here, whatever games are in New York City. And I'm not even sure if there is one outside of the final.
I ain't getting in the final, I can promise you that. So you're not trekking over to everybody's favorite place, MetLife Stadium. I mean, I can only imagine the the traffic getting in and out of the World Cup final.
That might be the true definition of hell on earth. More than more than a jet or a giant game. I mean, the stadium is half empty, you know, they do the fans that go a favor by getting them out of there somewhat quickly, but still not as quickly as you would think.
Do they? I bet you the parking lot is going to be nothing but black SUVs and sprints, their whole parking lot. And everybody else, the normal humans that go, I don't, I think MetLife holds 80. 80.
80, right? Whatever normal human is going to go to the game, I don't know if they exist, but they're going to go to the game. I don't know if they exist.
They're going to have to get on that train that goes out there. Good luck. What is that?
What is it? I think I've done it once. NJ Transit, yuck. And you have to take two trains, right? Yes, because why make it simple to go from New York City to literally the middle of nowhere where the stadium is? Why, you know, have a direct train when you can just make a stop, force everyone to get off, get on a new train and just cause absolute chaos in the train station?
Why, you know, who else isn't signing up for that? I believe one of the trains I got, I went out, it was a double-decker train, right? And then double-decker?
Yes. Fancy. The train is nice. It's double-decker train. You're still on top of a million people.
I was just going to say it is nice, but I'm sure you had people breathing down your neck, standing two inches in front of your face. They're going to pack in like sardines on that train. It's a nightmare. You know, man, that is the worst thing about any sporting event.
I don't care what it is. Like me in particular, I'm not a fan of crowds in general. I don't, I don't like taking that, that slow walk through the concourse. Like I want to go to my seat. I don't know where you four people in front of me, where y'all want to go, but they're just kind of moseying on that. And it's like, I move. And then you, you got like, do you remember the old Madison Square Garden where you had to enter and exit and everything? You're not walking.
You're, you're slowly shuffling. Like that's not my thing. And I don't, but I digress. That's about the crowds. There's nothing worse than leaving a stadium, leaving an arena. There's nothing worse by the way, and now I'm going off on the tangent, than having to go far outside of a city to the stadium or the arena.
And I get it. Not every city is built in such a way where you could just dump a stadium downtown. But for the places where you have to just drive out to it, that's the worst. I have, I have nightmares and I get it a little bit different when you work in media, you're there later after the game and you're in the back and the general public has left. But just to go out to the middle of nowhere, as Hickey described, and then just, and then have to leave and wait. It's the worst.
It's the worst. Like I got no problem watching a game from the comfort of my home. And I know for some people, you need the energy, you need the atmosphere. I go to enough sporting events.
Okay. Maybe I'm spoiled, but it's just even, even before I got into what I'm doing now, I'm like, yeah, it's nice to go to a game every now and then. But in certain places, Madison Square Garden in New York is perfectly situated. You can get on the train. You don't have to drive. There's no traffic.
Okay. You got options. MetLife Stadium that Hickey just talked about. You got an option and it's like, hell, that train is hell. Driving is hell.
Hickey, am I missing another way? There is no other way to get out there. I mean, there's swamps around, so I guess I was going to say by a kayak, but I don't think that's realistic. You might come out poisoned. Yeah, that's a good point.
Or as a mutant, like, or a swamp thing or something like that. It's, that's the worst, man. Do you prefer going to the games? You prefer watching at home? I still prefer going to the game.
I will say on top of travel, the thing that ruins it even more than, like, the traffic or, like, trying to get in and out of just, like, the mass amount of humanity is if you are just next to a jerk. Oh my god. Nothing worse than, you know, either a guy that's too drunk, guy who's yelling and just, like, annoying and they're not funny but just in your ear all game. It's like, buddy, shut up. I'm trying to watch the game, please. Like, you can, you know, who's next to you? Who's behind you?
It's a total wild card and that could really ruin, either make, you know, if it's good, fine, but if it's bad can ruin the game. You know what? You, you, you give me flashbacks. I went to a game one time. I don't know where I was. I couldn't tell you if it was baseball or basketball or football.
I could not tell you. He is etched in my brain. He was in front of me.
I have, I have nicknamed him in my brain high five guy. Hickey, I don't care what was going on. Every time something happened, I think I was at a baseball game. Every time something happened, this man wanted to high five everybody in his vicinity.
I think it was a baseball game. I could have went and gotten Italian sausage and a beer and came back. I could have had a beer in one hand and, and food in the other one. This guy wants a high five and I'm like, bro, like, like give yourself a high five. Like, leave me alone. Was he tuned up?
I don't think so. He's just, it's like, Hey, they, they finished the end. Yeah. High five. So and so hit a home run high five, but Hickey, they threw a strike high five, but it's one in one all game long. I wanted to give this man a high five on the back of his head. That's what I wanted to do that and that and a boot. Okay.
It's like, bro, everything in the game is not that important that you need to give me a high five and I don't know you. I don't know where your hands been. Okay. And I'm trying to eat.
It's kind of nasty enough out here. Okay. Relax. Anyway, I like sports.
