For money like everything else. So many French players selected. So many guys you have never seen in your life. And then there is another guy you have probably heard of him. LeBron James jr. Brawny James.

What a world that we live in. We are going to find out what happens with Brawny James sooner than later. The draft which started two hours ago because of the presidential debate. The draft is nearing a close. Okay. And congratulations to Kyle Filipowski for being drafted. Good for him. But when you think about the draft it's this has really been this has been the LeBron James draft LeBron James jr. draft.

Nobody cares about anybody else. And yeah we'll talk about some of the other names that you might know. Klingons of the world and castles and the Edie's and we'll get into all of that. But this is the draft of Brawny James. And so to talk about it we got a few guests who are going to join us later on in the show. A couple hours from now we're going to have a chat with Zach Cohen of VSIN. This man has kept up with the draft and everybody who's getting selected and there's a lot to get into. So Zach Cohen is going to join us. Also to discuss at least what the first team did with their first selection in the draft. The Atlanta Hawks Caleb Johnson. Hawks beat reporter 92-9 a game and Atlanta Georgia is going to come through and join us.

Caleb will be here in about 40 minutes. We're about two selections away from seeing whether or not the Lakers do what we all expect the Lakers to do. And that's draft Brawny James. And it's been said it's been reported not by me but by the former GM of the Golden State Warriors that Brawny James and his agent, his dad's friend Rich Paul is basically scaring off other teams from participating.

That's what it's looking like right now. A matter of fact I want you to listen. Listen carefully to this clip.

This is from like ESPN about an hour or so ago as Bob Myers gave us the the tea. He gave us the information. Well what the hell is going on with Brawny James? Listen to this.

If you take him he's going to Australia. So he has a plan and he has a place. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.

Wow. Is that what we're looking at? Brawny James is basically a holdout?

Basically a threat? As I talk to you right now this second. The Boston Celtics are on the clock.

They've got about two minutes here. The Boston Celtics have the 54th selection. The Los Angeles Lakers have selection number 55. There's only 58 selections here in this draft. It's kind of crazy. I want you to listen to this as well because Brawny James going through this entire process and going through the combine just about a month ago he was asked specifically in a media scrum whether or not playing with his dad was a dream of his and I want you to pay attention to what Brawny James had to say.

Listen to this. One time your dad was like oh like my dream would play with my son but um I don't know if like anybody had ever asked you like did you ever like dream about playing with your dad? Like your dad like for you or like what what went to it from your perspective? No I never uh you know my dream has always just been to put my name out make a name for myself and of course you know get to the NBA which is everyone's end goal is here and you know I never thought about just playing with my dad but of course he's he's brought it up a couple times um but yeah I don't I don't think about it everybody's end goal at the combine anybody's end goal at the draft is to make it into the NBA of course but everybody isn't the son of Lebron James and I really got to be honest here folks this feels backwards this really feels backwards this entire NBA draft process feels backwards it's like there were was little to no anticipation for the first overall pick Zachary Rissachier there was none none people here in Atlanta just like okay whatever like what are we doing next that's what people in Atlanta are looking at nobody cared about Alex Tsar going number two to Washington because there's no hype people are just like who cares who cares I don't think anybody ever has taken a look at the back end of the NBA draft the second round of the NBA draft and said to themselves I can't wait to see who gets picked last I mean damn it in the NFL the guy who gets picked last has a name he's he's Mr. Irrelevant and in the case of Mr. Irrelevant the best one so far is a guy named Brock Purdy but for what we're looking at right now in the NBA number 55 I've never given a damn really outside of the first round there's more anticipation for a guy selecting at number 55 than anything else that we got it's a wild world that we live in and it's it's done Shams is reporting it the Los Angeles Lakers are selecting Bronny James with pick number 55 in the 2024 NBA draft LeBron James and Bronny James will become the first ever father-son duo in the NBA at the same time wow now I want to say this is a bittersweet type thing because it's absolutely amazing I want to see it I want to see it on merit though and I'm not mad at LeBron James pulling strings to get his own son on the team I'm not I think it's absolutely amazing but the fact is does he deserve it probably not on basketball Meredith's getting off the strength of his pops off of his dad but now Bronny James is going to have to really go out there and live up to it a matter of fact I want you to listen to LeBron James on his show the shop because he had a specific conversation with Gunna the musician I think 2 Chainz was there and LeBron James sat around and he talked about at the time how yeah I I wanted Bronny I want to play with Bronny but Bronny has to do it for himself listen to this Bronny is never one of my that's dope he's number one on my list I want to play you want him to beat you you think no he can't beat me not too long ago I said um I asked him I said you want to what you want to do with this like you want to get to the pros what you want to do like yeah I said why he said because I want to make a name for myself and when I heard that I was like that's the bigger motivator than that's the bigger motivator the money what you gonna say today nothing I said well let's let's get it let's get it let's get it say no that's all I need to hear what he said to your face is I appreciate what you did but back to yeah yeah and I love it by the way he changed his name to Bronny I didn't he changed his name LeBron James Jr yeah he made him a junior yeah I made him a junior Bronny though but he Bronny he brought me to the world he's Bronny to the world and Bronny James is gonna be playing with his dad he's gonna be on the bench I don't know if he's gonna get burned I don't know if he's gonna play is this the best thing for Bronny well let's be real would Bronny James be in the NBA right now if it wasn't for LeBron the answers answers no but the thing is what happens next how does Bronny James develop how does Bronny James get better what happens when Bronny James and it's gonna be pretty cool to watch when Bronny James steps out onto the court and his dad is right there with him those are the type of things you can't make up those are the type of things that the Griffey's have experienced but we've never seen this in basketball lost last night the Los Angeles Lakers select Dalton connect out of Tennessee and tonight in the world's biggest worst kept secret it doesn't appear official yet the Lakers have made the call I'm sitting here in the studio watching but the Lakers are expected and have selected Bronny James now I wonder I can't imagine how Bronny James feels about this daddy got me the job and now I gotta live up to it this is crazy eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven that's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven Jack Curti first of all how are you on this uh Thursday evening I'm doing good JR how about yourself I'm very well thank you let's let's hold on a second it looks like the the pick is in looks like the selection is done it's official Bronny James selected at number 55 for the Los Angeles Lakers it's not what are your thoughts on this so I mean obviously I you knew you knew Bronny was gonna get drafted and I wasn't sure who where he was gonna go you know we'll have to see what uh you know he's going to going to LA and he's gonna play with his dad I think everyone expected that was gonna happen there's no way Bronny was not gonna go to the team where his dad was on I there's LeBron's gonna do everything in his power to make sure his team drafted Bronny now he's gonna have to show it on the court if you know make uh make a name for himself but he's gonna have to prove it that he's able to be on this team especially with his dad yeah this is uh there is nothing more clear right now to anybody that this is this is LeBron James team okay we head into this off season Los Angeles Lakers just disappointing end to the season and here we have a situation where LeBron James can leave the head coach in Darvin Ham gets the boot they have no coach they don't know what's gonna happen with LeBron is he gonna opt out is he gonna leave what's going to happen he gets the coach that he wants that he had a podcast with it's JJ Reddick LeBron James gets to push a button and he plays with his son that's Bronny James and now it's just a matter of how and to what circumstances that LeBron James returns to the Los Angeles Lakers is it a one year plus one is he signed in a whole three years what is LeBron James gonna do outside of go out there and try to you know give his son that the best transition into the NBA this is not the full baptism Bronny James is not getting dunked in the waters it's gonna be a slow walk what's to be expected of him and let's be real the Lakers still got work to do throughout the course of the off season before a guy at 55 when is he gonna play is he gonna shock us all and I can't imagine this happened if this happens I'm just gonna lose my mind just out of the oh my god this actually happened there's two moments it's the moment when Bronny James checks into a game while LeBron checks into a game I don't know maybe it's garbage time maybe not and when one of them passes the other guy out of ball and they knock down a shot this is unprecedented in the NBA and I gotta tell you I'm still in a little bit of shock we've talked about this and discussed it for years we have never had a father-son combination in the NBA at the same time let alone on the same team this is a first in the NBA and of course a guy like LeBron James who's now been around 20 plus years of course it can be him he's still playing he's still playing at a high level he can call the shots and that's exactly what he's doing as Bronny James in the world's worst kept secret Bronny James goes at number 55 to the Los Angeles Lakers you know it would've been even crazier if Bronny James got drafted on the same day as LeBron James did because you said yes you know in yesterday's segment in sports history LeBron James got drafted in 2003 on the 26th it would've been crazy if he got drafted on June 26th 2024. Hey it's only only a day away only a day away but this is this is historic for the NBA for a league that's been around since 1946 to have the NBA's all-time leading scorer four-time champion multiple-time MVP finalist MVP arguably this is this is one of the greatest players in NBA history you could say he's he's one or two I'd put him at two behind some guy named Michael Jordan but one thing Michael Jordan one thing nobody else can ever say when the history books are done is that they played with their son LeBron James is just racking up accolades really that that no one else in the defense he's the strongest defender come on we heard the jokes last year we heard him there's a lot of jokes lebron james we we heard about it he was in the locker room saying oh my son could play right now well lebron you you gonna have a chance to to show and prove both lebron's now i have to well one calls himself brawny the other is lebron they have a chance to to prove it now eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven that's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven and you think about the lakers and what the roster is going to look like you help me out you tell me where brawny james is is gonna get some burn all things considered unless there's some massive change right obviously lebron will be there he's the point guard rui hatcher mora will be there anthony davis will be there austin reeves will be there they just drafted dalton connect you think about the lakers and and what happens brawny james is gonna be at the end of the bench and maybe maybe this is the plan you sit here you learn for the next couple of years you grow and then by the time i'm on my way out the door you've established yourself a little bit maybe the lakers extend you maybe you end up on another team this is just unprecedented there's so many different different ways to go i'm still in kind of a little bit of a shock you know baseball players longevity this is i think the only thing that would surprise me a little bit more if this was a football player i don't expect that to happen the average career for football players three to four years wow wow wow wow some of the other lakers if you want to think about them under contract for next year but d'angelo russell has an option austin reeves will be there gabe vincent will return jared vanderbilt and that's that's pretty much about it you can't make this stuff up eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven that's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven the dallas mavericks are are i know i said brawny james was selected the draft is over brawny james has been selected and yeah there's a couple more picks there's actually one more pick here in the second round and we're about to be done in the dallas mavericks they've made it the draft is done ariel huck porty a center from germany the draft is finished two days two days of the nba draft and it's over this is the first time in the nba's history that they decided to hold the draft over the course of two days and they wanted to stretch it out because why not take a page out of the nfl's book and just make as much money as possible no big surprises you know when you got to the second round we knew that that kyle philipowski was going to be drafted he had to sit in the green room yesterday and suffer the big guy out of duke i remember watching him play in new york when he was 16 years old him and his twin brothers twin brother went to play at harvard and he went to duke well he was the second selection in this year's draft at number 32 overall and so kyle philipowski will be able to knock down jump shots in utah johnny furphy who was also available yesterday out of australia johnny furphy had the weight he is now a member of the san antonio spurs and then you gotta do a whole lot of skipping before anybody else cares tristan newton out of uconn he was selected number 49 overall by the indiana pacers he'll get a lot of bench time we know who the point guard out in indiana is and then brawny james at number 55 kevin mccullough jr another name out of kansas selected at 56 and that's the draft folks all the action if you wanted it you got it yesterday zachary risaget goes number one alexar goes number two reed shepherd goes three stephon castle goes to san antonio ron holland never seen him play hey uh jack have you ever seen a g league game in your life you ever seen one of these ignite games i have never seen one of those games before no yeah you and a million other people nobody's seen these guys donovan clinging and rob dillingham at least he gets traded to minnesota that will be fun watching him and anthony edwards do some growing you got zach edie uh people had some strong feelings about zach edie going at number nine cody williams his brother is out here playing for the oklahoma city thunder and they look they look like twins wow the nba draft is done it's over it's a wrap this has been the weirdest nba draft i gotta tell you that that i can remember no consensus number one overall pick the guy who who has the most famous out of the draft is lebron james son he goes at at number 55 and nobody else cares about anything like the biggest story is brawny james i couldn't even tell you the next biggest story i can't kyle philipowski having to wait the fact that there was no straight ahead number one i mean you got mccain who's going to uh you know the philadelphia 76s people are talking to him about tick tock videos and not basketball this is a weird nba draft and hey by the way the nba do us a favor you can make the draft just one night again we don't need two nights of an nba draft this is not the nfl okay you'll only have what 430 450 players nobody knows who these guys are you can stretch it out for the advertising money but but look by the time the commissioner steps away from the stage nobody cares what the deputy commissioner has to come through saying nobody cares nobody we would be talking about this draft tonight now game or night two if people weren't waiting on brawny and the world's worst kept secret it's the jr sport re finished we had quite a few frenchmen taken in the draft four players out of uconn and of course the biggest name sounds crazy selected in the draft is the son of lebron james brawny james selected at number 55 overall in the 2024 nba draft is done there's gonna be a lot of people talking about brawny including us for the next several months but here in atlanta georgia where the hawks surprisingly ended up with the number one overall pick they also decided to go with a frenchman that was it the right move what happens next does he fit in do they keep a point guard do they trade a point guard what the hell is going on with the hawks it's time to have a chat with caleb johnson reporter hawks knows everything covers them all year long for 92-9 the game here in atlanta georgia caleb how are you man i'm doing well rj rj excuse me wow what's going on man between both of us i don't know there's a lot going on caleb there's just tons it's been a long couple of days i'll be honest with you ever since this draft has gotten underway obviously with the hawks taking the number one overall pick you know people want to talk about it and so uh yeah no we're all good to go now absolutely well first the guy who was selected number one overall zachary rissache what's the deal you know i'm here in a city like you it seems people are kind of hot cold people are kind of ambivalent to it what are your thoughts on what the hawks did at number one they are look zachary rissache i i think the comparison here is he's a really good pair of socks all right now no one gets really excited over a pair of socks they they get excited about a pair of socks they they clearly hold a very important you know role in in your fit and everything like that like you need them to to stay warm you they have a functional aspect of things they're just not uh super exciting or appealing and that is zachary rissache i think that is why you know there's a lot of fans in the city of atlanta that aren't super thrilled over this but i think at the end of the day the hawks added to a deficiency that this team had he is a three and d kind of guy he's someone who they need on ball defending specifically on the perimeter and zachary rissache brings that he's also a very solid three-point shooter and i think that is something that he can continue to grow in you know it's kind of funny we talked to him last night after the draft and said well who do you think you kind of model your game after and he said well clay thompson and it's like okay well and he even realized you know he's no clay thompson at this point uh but having those aspirations of a knockdown shooter uh as well as for for rissache you know he is a a solid defender on the ball uh it's something that this hawks team really needs and it also gives them a lot of options like this doesn't uh kind of bog down a specific position for them this isn't point guard this isn't center uh and so now they have options with what they can do with the rest of this team caleb johnson is joining us reporter at 92.9 the game covers the atlanta hawks i'm still trying to get over the fact that you said that this man is like a pair of socks so hey look he's he's not you know he's not the jordan sneakers like he's not what everybody's looking at he's not a a really fresh shirt he's not a hat that everybody's looking at that's the flashy thing he is just the the solid consistent you need it there it's it's there for you uh but it's it's not sexy it's not exciting but it is a very important important part of of your fit you know just yeah i i hear you caleb so when you think about the important part so we know there is no more important part is nobody who gets paid more money on the atlanta hawks than trey young and we understand it only takes you watching i guess one game to understand that trey young and ajante murray they don't complement each other this has been a discussion now for the better part of a year maybe more what happens next i mean do they keep these two together as we roll through free agency in the summer or do they dare bring both back i am starting to get people in line with the idea that it is possible that they bring both of these guys back for the simple fact of they really want a a solid return for one of these guys and i think right now at least from what i have heard inside the organization is that they don't feel that the return they're hearing from other people is enough to to make a deal happen so there is the thought that they could go into the season these guys play better uh you know and the perception around them improves and then they make a deal however i really think it is in everyone's best interest to make a decision now i think you know if you're picking the better player sure it's it's clearly trey like i don't think that's a tough decision to make however he's been someone who was vocal with us media on exit interview day and on his own podcast of saying i want to win now and i don't think the hawks are a win now team and i don't think anyone else really believes that so it can they convince their star of you know just hold on and we're we're building something even though that man's been hearing that for you know six years now uh or uh do they you know move on from him and try to get some sort of a deal i think they've got to make a decision one way or another with these two but i just think it's a realistic possibility that they instead look to move someone like a clint cappella who's on an expiring contract look to move a guy like diondre hunter who's also in that you know 20 plus million dollar range uh and is now in a position that they just added a new rookie uh and and go from there as a way of uh getting out of some of their salary caleb johnson is joining us covers the hawks for 92-9 the game in atlanta georgia when you talk about research and and what he's able to do shooting the ball playing defense we know he's small is there a possibility that he kind of gets stashed to the back i mean i can't see him playing over some of these forwards at one thing the hawks have have strong forwards you know hunter is no no pushover he's a strong guy when he actually plays what is what is expected from reese ashay i could see i could see quinn staring at him going i gotta put him on the bench i think the thing that they like from him is his is his height you know i mean the guy is 6'10 and so i hear you on his frame and the fact that he is and that's something that the gm landry fields even alluded to last night when we talked with him is that he needs to to fill out essentially and put some muscle on but i think they look at that as a hey every guy entering the draft needs to do that i mean landry was also talking about their draft picks from last year whether it's kobe buffkin or mo gay is some guys who put on big weight just in the span of a year so i think this guy is absolutely going to play like and i believe he is going to be a starter just simply from the fact of he is the number one overall pick and so i think that's kind of what comes with all of these things it comes with the attention the you know your ticket sales jerseys all of those sorts of things like those decisions come into play i think when you are a team that is not looking at hey we're we're going to win a championship i don't think anyone takes the hawks that seriously and that's why i think it is it's tough because i think trey and risa shay could play off each other really well given that risa shay is not his own shot creator but he is great when someone gets him the ball and who better than i think the best passer in the nba and trey young it's just a timeline difference of can trey be you know essentially convinced to stick around and and deal with the team that is not in rebuild but retool for sure but but yeah no i think risa shay is going to play for sure they'll deal with the ups and downs i mean just he's not as obviously tall as a women yabba or that sort of thing but you deal with the struggles that you see out of a rookie because like i said he's number one overall pick and caleb johnson here with us joining us on 92.9 a game in atlanta georgia we heard a lot about alex sar who's now a member of the washington wizards not wanting to work out or his representatives just really steering him to washington if it wasn't risa shay was there another option that the hawks kind of wanted to to gear towards i think in a perfect scenario world for the hawks if last night if they could have traded down from one to somewhere you know two or three essentially if they could have traded down got some assets and you know next year's draft that sort of thing and picked donovan clingan i think they would have loved that sort of a thing because i think this is a team who was trying to add to their assets like because of the trade that you know that that got dajonte murray here because of a trade that got sadik bay here where they gave up five second round picks but that dajonte murray trade the more you know notable one that gave up next year's first round pick the pick swap uh in in 26 and then the first in 27 like all of these different aspects they don't have their own picks coming up in these next few drafts so completely tanking really wasn't on the table but they i think they wanted to get some assets back the they didn't end up doing that and so i think that i think there was no scenario in which after alexar declined and you know to work out in person that they were ever going to pick him uh it's as simple as i i mean i've heard from fans who were like well you take the best available player whether he wants to be there or not uh i think you know if you found yourself in a situation with alexar and trey young in the city at the same time and neither one of those guys super excited about being there i think that is just a recipe for disaster i think with alexar his big thing was uh because of his size he is a tall guy but he is not a big guy because of that he wants to play the four and he wants to be a big part of the offense and i think he saw in atlanta that that really wasn't going to be as much of the case especially with i mean the four right now is held down by jaylen johnson they need someone to to take on that five spot uh and so because of all of those things it seems like bill duffy uh alexar's agent wanted to steer them towards washington which why you would ever steer someone towards that franchise i will never understand but hey more power to them but this is the second time in recent history that a player has been steered away from atlanta it happened with luka doncic in 2018 as he was kind of steered away from atlanta and sacramento and i think you just kind of roll with it you you take your best option and you hope everything kind of works out yeah well i know that seems like the the hawks mode of operation right now as we approach the break quick question for you final one does it look like the hawks it looks like they're in store for another average season am i wrong in thinking that uh i mean that certainly seems the way this thing is headed it's going to be all about what they're able to do this off season like who they move off of and who they keep around uh because we
