And without holding you in any more suspense if you're not aware, congratulations to Zachary Rissaucher from France. He was selected number one overall in tonight's NBA draft. The Atlanta Hawks, Alex Saar who was selected at number two by the Washington Wizards. Alex Saar didn't want to work out for the Atlanta Hawks. This man played here in Atlanta, Georgia for the overtime elite league. It's like the young semi-pro league.
It was actually during the pandemic. I guess he looks at too many players on the Hawks. I guess looking at Washington you can say everybody's ass and he'd have more of a chance to play.
Good for him. But when it comes down to Rissaucher, this is the second consecutive year that the number one overall pick in the NBA draft has come from France. Now I saw Victor Webenyama play because the NBA shoved him down our throats with good reason. He's absolutely amazing.
For it feels like, I don't know, a year and a half. Victor Webenyama's games were on the NBA app. I have never seen Zachary Rissaucher play a day in my life. He is a six foot nine scoring forward.
That's it. He's shooting shots, he's getting buckets, and he allegedly plays defense. He's 6'9", 200 pounds. I don't know what they're feeding him in Paris.
They're gonna put some meat on his bones here in the States. He's the number one overall pick. There were three Frenchmen taken in the first 10 picks.
I'll share their names with you momentarily. But before we do any of that, let's listen to the number one overall pick Zachary Rissaucher say this is what he had to say on being selected number one overall. That's a blessing, you know. So exciting.
There's a lot of like feelings and emotions right now. I don't know what to say, but that's definitely special and I'm so, yeah, I'm so blessed. Yeah, well, he continued on. He didn't stop there when telling you about how it felt. He said he felt blessed. He said it was special. He elaborated on how special this moment really is. The world that I've been through and all my family is here. I'm so happy to have them here.
My friends and like, this is amazing. I don't know what to say. It's special.
Good for him. I hope it works out, man, because being an Atlanta Hawk, it's tough. It really is.
Or maybe, maybe it's because, I don't know. The Hawks sure know how to screw things up a little bit. They're going to be angry at me. Sorry. But the fact is they got to figure out what to do with Trae Young and they got to figure out what to do with De'Jaunte Murray while they decided to bring in two guards who just need the ball and Thomas Small.
I have no idea. Jalen Johnson needs to evolve and they got to figure out what happens with Clint Capella. They don't necessarily need him.
Oh, man. I hope this guy's good. Selected number one overall. They said this is a weak draft. He might be a 15-point scorer for the rest of his career.
Come on. Atlanta Hawks accidentally end up with the first overall pick and just everybody's like, yeah. Anyway, congratulations to Zachary Rissaucher from France. He goes number one to the Atlanta Hawks. Number two, I told you the man who didn't want to work out for the Atlanta Hawks is Alex Saar. He ends up on the Washington Wizards. The Washington Wizards have been about as entertaining as paint drying and in an era post-Bradley Beah, who's also now suffering in Phoenix, Arizona.
At least Washington fans got something to pay to see, right? Instead of Jordan Poole jacking up shots. Alex Saar, he talked about how emotional this moment was being selected at number two overall. I went through his draft and you know, I know how it feels to go out and draft it, you know, and for me to be able to be a topic now is, you know, it's really special. He didn't stop there. He thanked everybody that he's worked out with, everybody who's helped him, he thanked his brother. It's an emotional moment.
Listen to the man. I mean, you know, he shared a lot with me, you know, like everything I've learned is through him and he gave me all his knowledge and, you know, till this day, it's really special to have someone like him in my corner. Good luck to Alex Saar. I mean, there's a reason why these, these teams select this high up in the draft. It's because these teams suck. And a lot of these teams get these players. I mean, I talked about Denny Advia. They already shipped him out after four years. A man hasn't even gone through his rookie contract. They just sent him out to Portland today. They were hoping he was going to be the guy, one of the guys, and they don't even want him anymore. Like, we don't need him. We're just going to start from scratch. We got Alex Saar now.
Man, it's just a cold, cold world. If you think about some of the other individuals drafted, Alex Saar goes to Reed Shepherd out of Kentucky. He goes number three to the Houston Rockets.
Stephon Castle out of Yukon. He goes number four to the San Antonio Spurs. Ron Holland from the G-League goes number five to the Detroit Pistons.
Tedyane Salouan also from Paris, France. He goes to number six to the Hornets. Donovan Clingan. I've seen him play.
Thank you, Yukon American. Donovan Clingan goes at number seven to the Portland Trailblazers. Rob Dillingham played for Kentucky, a disappointment this past season. And he goes at number eight to the Spurs.
Congratulations to this man right here. Zach Eady goes at number nine to the Memphis Grizzlies. Cody Williams, the brother of Caleb Williams, who plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Cody Williams just went to the Utah Jazz.
They say he's better than his brother. 8-5-5, 2-1-2, 42-27. That's 8-5-5, 2-1-2, 42-27. Yeah, if there's one thing that stands out here that we have in the draft so far, a lot of these teams are just hoping and praying that these players develop into something. Rich Arzay, nothing's expected from these guys right away.
The San Antonio Spurs got two guards. They'll develop them. They'll let them eat each other alive before they move on.
But how about this? Zach Eady going to the Memphis Grizzlies, he actually goes to a team that's going to have some type of expectation this upcoming season. And this is not a bad fit. This might actually be the best possible fit for someone like Zach Eady. Is Jon Morant going to come back or is he going to play with guns? I think at this point Jon Morant has probably learned his lesson, right?
Has to. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt. That may be a stupid thing to do, but let's give him some benefit, right? Marcus Smart is scheduled to return to the team as of now.
Desmond Bain also had to deal with an injury-riddled season. Jaron Jackson Jr., this man is certainly going to go out and compete for Defensive Player of the Year again if he's healthy. Luke Kennard, Gigi Jackson, but to add a backup center in Zach Eady?
No one is asking him to do a damn thing but show up and be big. Can you spell Jaron Jackson for a minute? Can you go out there and knock down a J? Can you block a shot?
Can you lift up your arms and contest a layup? Zach Eady is 7 foot 4. And for a lot of people who said that, what the hell is he going to do in the NBA? He's too slow, he's too this?
I'll tell you this much. I don't think there's big expectations for him on the Memphis Grizzlies. But to show up, maybe play 10 to 15 minutes, maybe, and just do what he did in college against backups in the league? Congratulations to Zach Eady.
I think this is actually a great place for him to end up. This might be the most notable thing so far that we have in this draft. The Chicago Bulls are currently on the clock at selection number 11. You've probably heard this by now, but the NBA draft this year in 2024, this is the first year that the draft is taking place over two days. The first round takes place today, will end tonight, and the second draft, excuse me, the second round will take place tomorrow. Now there's an interesting thing start time. The second round of the draft tomorrow gets going at 4 p.m. 4 p.m. Eastern time. Why?
I don't know if this is good or bad, if you know or don't know. There's a presidential debate tomorrow. And so what the NBA does not want to do is have a conflict with the presidential debate.
They want you to see Biden and Trump going at it tomorrow. And so you can go ahead and catch the second round of the NBA draft a little bit earlier. Priorities, folks. Priorities. 855-212-4227.

That's a big man. Anyway, the Oklahoma City Thunder are on the clock now at pick number 12. I told you Zach Eady went to number 9 to the Memphis Grizzlies. San Antonio Spurs, they get Rob Dillingham and then also Stephon Castle. A Reed Shepherd from Kentucky is a Houston Rocket. Alex Saar is a member of the Wizards. And Zachary Rissache, he goes number 1 to the Atlanta Hawks.
Good for him. And now that all of these guys have been drafted, we're not even halfway through the first round yet. Everybody's just waiting to see what happens with LeBron James Jr. He ain't getting drafted today. I'd be shocked if Bronny James gets drafted. The Los Angeles Lakers have pick number 17. What they do with it, I have no idea. Maybe they draft somebody to ultimately trade them.
I have no idea. But we just have to wait until tomorrow to see what happens with Bronny James. The Lakers pick again at number 55. Unless it's the Phoenix Suns, where the hell else would Bronny James go? And now that Bronny James is finally here on the precipice of being an NBA player, we're hearing more of Bronny James. He's sitting around doing all the interviews, talking to the media, talking to the press. And of course, Bronny James, he spoke to ESPN as a part of his interviews. I didn't know you just, well I guess a second round pick like Bronny.
You sit down and talk with him. Of course he's going to get the attention. And I want you to hear what LeBron James had to say about potentially forging his own path and not wanting to just play with his dad but do his own thing. Listen to what Bronny James had to tell ESPN.
Honestly, I feel like this is a serious business. And I don't feel like there would be a thought of, I'm just drafting this kid just because I'm going to get his dad. I don't think a GM would really allow that. So yeah, I've never really thought about like, yeah, no, I think I've put in the work and I'll get drafted because of the person, not only the player, but the person that I am. It was Bronny James, he was speaking to the media about what we all know, why he's getting drafted, it's because of his dad. This is Bronny James talking to ESPN about trying to forge his own path.
Listen to this. We got that clip. Yeah, all Bronny James can go out and do is be him. He can have all the pressure in the world on him. But it's going to be time for Bronny James to show up when the time is right. We have another draft selection that's taken place. Nikola Topic from Serbia is selected to the Oklahoma City Thunder. This is a six foot six point guard. The NBA is wild, folks. The Oklahoma City Thunder, what are they, what are they doing? This is a team that was just competing for a spot in the Western Conference Finals. This is a young team that's on the up and up and they end up with a six foot six point guard. Like what are they going to do?
Trade these guys away? Like what are they doing? And God bless the Oklahoma City Thunder. They certainly went from some like a ridiculous upside with with Kevin Durant and James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Sergey Baka, Kendrick Perkins. They go through that.
They absolutely hit the toilet. They have some stop gaps with Chris Paul and Carmelo and Paul George. And then they end up on the other side with Shay Gilgus Alexander and and Williams and Dort. By the way, we'll have Lou Dort here on the show in a couple of weeks. Maybe next week we talk to Lou Dort. We're after 4th of July.
It's just, how the hell do they go through all of this? In the NBA, you want to talk about all the Frenchmen that have been selected in the draft. All of the notable Serbian players. Nikola Topic is the latest guy. You got Nikola Jovic on the Miami Heat.
Yeah, he's not the most famous one. Bojan Bogdanovic. Bogdanovic is here in Atlanta. Nikola Jovic, we know, is one of the best big men that the NBA has ever seen. Vlade Divac's amazing and I guess someone that I called to bust earlier, Darko Milicic. Serbian players out here busting ass, man.

Dan Hurley is apparently sitting down here at the NBA draft looking real relaxed, looking real chill as two of his players that he just won a championship with were both selected number one, or excuse me, in the first 10 picks. Stefan Castle goes at number four to the San Antonio Spurs and then also Donovan Clingan, the 7'2 center for UConn. He goes to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Everything is good for Danny Hurley. I think even avoiding the Los Angeles Lakers was good for him as well. Speaking of good, I know we talked about this earlier in the show, but I can't overstate how damn good that the New York Knicks have done just over the past 24 hours, acquiring Mikel Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets, teaming him up with his former college teammates and Dante DiVincenzo and Jalen Brunson.
And then you can also think about who else am I missing? Josh Hart. The Knicks have done good, and then they also re-signed OG Anenobi. Five-year contract, $212 million. This is in addition to still having Julius Randle, who I assume you can eventually move if you should choose, and then also having Mitchell Robinson and or Isaiah Hartenstein. The Knicks have depth, they have size, they have wings, they have shooting, they have defense. They got one of the best scorers in the NBA in Jalen Brunson.
I think as everybody kind of gets along, fine, New York Knicks are going to do some damage in the East. 8-5-5, 212-42-27. Let's go to California and talk to Chris. Chris, you're on the JR Sport Reshore going ahead. How you doing, sir?
I'm very well, please. Yeah, on the subject of the NBA, I just think that the Celtics with that squad that they have, it looks like the contracts are locked up for a little while. This is a team that could win three in a row or something.
Your thoughts on that? Yeah, they just won one championship in the Boston Celtics. Am I going to go ahead and say they can win three in a row? Man, I ain't going to think that far in the head, but the Boston Celtics will certainly be right back in championship contention.
Let's be real. We haven't had a team repeat since the Golden State Warriors. The past six NBA champs have all, they've all been one and done. I mean, last year we saw the Denver Nuggets. One of the issues with their squad is they lost depth. Bruce Brown ends up signing with the Pacers. They end up trading him away and Jeff Green is now gone. I thought that was going to be an issue and it was.
Okay. I mean, if we think about the Celtics, a little bit different of a situation. They're pretty much going to be returning the same exact squad from this past season. They blazed through everybody in the regular season. They pretty much did the same by the time the postseason rolled around. And so the Celtics have told you out of their own mouths, yeah, we plan on being competitive for a championship next year. And I think you'd have to be stupid to think that they won't.
Things change. We have to see how how some of these other teams just build up. But I really feel outside of something absolutely ridiculous happening, I don't see some massive NBA trade tonight. Something crazy would have to happen in free agency. But I really feel that the Celtics, by the time we pull up to October, they're probably going to be the odds on favorite.
They're going to be Vegas's favorite. So go ahead and repeat. And that's not just nonsense. That's not just garbage.
That's legitimate. They probably do have the chance to compete for multiple titles because that core group isn't going anywhere unless Al Hoffer just gets ridiculously old overnight, unless Kristaps Porzingis can't play at all throughout the season. And yeah, then the Celtics might have a couple of problems as they need some big man depth. That could be the biggest issue. Time will tell.

That's 855-212-4227. Before we go to Marco Belletti with a newsflash, I want to ask Marco. Marco, it took me it took me five minutes of walking out the studio. And the next thing I know, the New York Knicks make a trade. And then 24 hours later, the New York Knicks make a trade. 24 hours later, the New York Knicks add Mikel Bridges. How do you feel about what the Knicks have done?
They've done a tremendous job. I mean, look, they're adding size. They're adding wings. They're adding guys that can score without the ball in their hands. The only thing that you wonder is you kind of mentioned it.
You alluded to it before. Is Randall the odd man out down the road or do the Knicks have something up their sleeve to move him now? Because that's the only piece that doesn't completely fit with Tom Thibodeau.
That's the only thing. And it's not that he's not a good player but he needs the ball in his hands and everybody else except for Brunson doesn't. And it's almost like the Knicks have worked this out perfectly. And I wonder if it's let's roll the dice and see if Randall with all these other pieces is enough and they can get over the top or do they make the move now preemptive to see what they can get for Randall who's an excellent player in his own right but doesn't completely fit the everything else that the Knicks have done. Which is really, I mean, closed the gap tremendously.
There's still a gap but it's closed on the Celtics. Do you feel Julius Randall isn't prepared to play nice this season? It's not that. I mean, you've watched his game, JR. He's a guy that needs the ball to be able to get his shot off. He's a guy that could score over 20 points a game. He's an all-star. He's an all NBA type player. It's not a knock but he needs the some guys don't need the ball and can still score 20 a night. Just get him in the right spots and you get it somebody could create and they can knock down shots. Randall needs the ball and his assists come when the shot clock's winding down and he kind of whips it at you and you wind up knocking down a shot. So Randall is ball centric.
No one else except for Brunson is on the Knicks and I wonder if that's something that they ride it out and see if that can work or if they again preemptively find another ancillary piece to add with everything else. Because all their guys are two-way guys. All their guys play defense. They're all long. They all got length.
They all do something different except for Randall. It sounds like he needs a hug. That's what it sounds like he needs. I'm just saying yeah he was telling the fans F you a couple of seasons ago.
I know he needed the boot in the ass. He didn't need a hug but he's probably going to sit in the locker room sit on the plane and just go and there goes Villanova guys again. Yeah I mean look there's part of that obviously and it's going to be the Villanova guys and everybody else there's part of that because they're just so close-knit and all that but I also think that they also know their leader which is Jalen Brunson. Everybody else on the team knows their leader too so I'm not as concerned about that and I think they're smart enough to incorporate everybody else in. Randall's the only one that's because he was there before everybody else and Randall was supposed to be the guy and he helped bring the Knicks back to the playoffs a few years ago when they got beat by the Hawks in the first round. Does he acquiesce to Brunson's the unquestioned leader?
I'm no longer the top option. I think he does. Is he okay with being the third option? There's a lot of things that I don't think it's a personality thing I just wonder if Randall can adapt his game which does need the basketball and I don't know if the Knicks really want it to go through Randall as much. I think he has fully accepted and understands that it's Jalen Brunson's show. Now how he fits in with everybody else and this is but this is the other good thing everybody else in the starting lineup nobody else like needs the ball. It's Jalen Brunson and Ananobi and what's his name Bridges will stand in the corner and then it's hey at the starting lineup y'all two shoot y'all two being Brunson and Randall and everybody else hey you you get the scraps and I think between OG and Ananobi and then also Bridges I think they're fine with that.
We know the centers for the Knicks certainly don't need the rock to score. I think they they play it out and see what happens. I don't think there's no no swift urgency and I think he's fine because I mean for all of the the fans booing him and the middle fingers back and having to atone a little bit I think he's I think he's gonna be fine with with Brunson doing what he does and if he doesn't then I think the New York Knicks will say hi we gotta move on. Like I said I agree personality wise I think he's willing and I think I think he grew up a little bit with all that you talked about a few years ago.
Oh yeah. I just like I said like I said I'm curious to see if his game can adapt because sometimes you can want it but you just don't know how to adapt. I mean you play the way you play that's my my I don't want to say concern but that's what I'm curious to see. Other guys Josh Hart the Devin Shenzos they're going to play less a role than they did in the playoffs last year. I think they're cool with it like I don't think there's there's going to be a clash with oh hey I played more minutes before I don't think any including Randall I that's just the only piece that I don't know how it works with everybody else and I'm curious to see how the Knicks do that.
I don't think he's going to fight it but I'm I'm I'm not a hundred percent sure he can adapt his game. Okay well if push comes to shove and he wants to force a trade all he has to do is tell the fans F you again problem solved. It's also the NBA apparently any any place you want to go you just put it out there in the ether and you go there. Is that how it goes?
Apparently just told the Nets I want to go to the Knicks it was like two days ago okay. Oh yeah well I don't know if everybody can do that. Seems like it yeah well we're getting there man it's weird. Hey look you make enough money I guess you can do what you want right? Yep.

always holding out for picks and there's still a lot of guys here on the board there's still a lot of guys here on the board dalton connect out of tennessee has yet to be drafted here in the first round uh kyle philipowski has yet to be drafted and then uh well coming up next the philadelphia 76ers are on the board at number 16 and the los angeles lakers are on the board at number 17. hmm always wondering what the lakers are going to do right right well listen we've had an interesting show especially as we take a look towards the future players and stars and all stars and i don't know maybe even hall of famers here in the nba but that's today that's the future it's the end of the show you know what it's time for right it's time to take a look back at quite a few things that took place this day in sports history it's time for this day in sports history you see back in those days we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it on the jr and quite a few things that took place this day in sports history and oh my goodness if we go back to june 26th 1996 we saw one of the most stacked nba drafts ever i'm talking guys like stephon marbury steve nash ray allen coby bryant sharif abdur rahim antoine walker jimaine o'neill peja stojakovic but you want to know the guy who went numero uno on this day in 1996 out of georgetown his name well alan iverson listen to this courtesy of tnt with the first pick in the 1996 nba draft the philadelphia 76ers select alan iverson from georgetown university you know they lost some games last year and uh i know they want to just dig deep down the side and uh bring everything out that they got and win some games and all i want to do is win and that whole staff and the organization they just want to win man alan iverson was in the nba finals in five years we know they lost to the los angeles lakers he won an mvp that season in 2001 he was an 11-time all-star all-star game mvp alan iverson he's one of the best to ever do it flattened period thank you alan iverson he was a joy to watch and oh yeah by the way he's one of the nba's 75 greatest players and then he was here in atlanta watching kaitlyn clark on uh on friday alan iverson is the man this day june 26 in 2003 a man named lebron james was drafted listen he had an interview on espn right after being drafted you can hear the people in the crowd chanting at him overrated listen to the question listen to lebron's answer you will most certainly be the most scrutinized rookie in the history of the nba what will make a successful season by your definition in the rookie year you know seeing our team get better every day i think that's gonna be the biggest accomplishment for us because last year we weren't pretty good but if i feel like we get better every day as a team that's gonna be my biggest goal this year this man has probably had the longest greatest nba career of anybody ever i'd still take michael jordan as an overall but you talk about longevity and career accomplishments lebron is like the energizer bunny the guy is still going and damn it his son is probably gonna get drafted tomorrow he's checked every box lebron james drafted this day june 26 let's hit the fast forward button to 2015 to the nhl because the man that just won the con smyth trophy in a losing effort connor mcdavid he was drafted by the edmonton oils this day 2015 and afterwards he was asked about the moment and where he's going and this is what he said this is unbelievable i mean i there's no words to describe i feel right now it's uh so surreal your parents when you got the hug what they say to you what that hug feel like uh that was amazing i mean uh for them to be here for me in this uh this moment i mean they've been there all along and um i only hug three people but the long list of people that are here uh goes on and on and the long list of people who've helped me get to this point uh is uh you know it's absolutely amazing and i'm very very grateful to have them in my life man good for everybody that got drafted congratulations to them all nba nhl hey folks it's it's that time of year it's that time of year and thank you so much to you for yeah you specifically for for tuning in the los angeles lakers are on the clock i think we might have a very different show tomorrow if brawny james gets selected by the los angeles lakers the lakers are currently on the clock right now jared mccain out of duke was just drafted by the philadelphia 76ers it's good 76ers get themselves uh another guard to help handle the ball kind of spell tyrese maxey a jared mccain not going to be expected to do a whole lot of scoring and let's see what he does for duke i know he's going to relax and chill them them fans will be killing him if he doesn't perform i know he's very uh he's alive and philly fans are set him straight if he's doing too much tick-tocking and not enough winning hey jack thank you
