Go outside and have some dinner and enjoy the beautiful weather and then by the time I come inside maybe I'll see the back end of the kings and the uh the pelicans which is a game that's going to get started in about 90 minutes from now and I will also remind you there is no Zion Williamson because Zion has a hamstring strain of his gigantic hamstring. Okay listen folks we'll get into more basketball and as we continue on with the show I gotta I gotta fill you in on this. Yesterday we were seven days away from the NFL draft and now I can officially say the NFL draft will still be going on at this time next week but we're now less than a week away from the start of the draft and so there's always these stories there's always these rumors there's always teams trying to manipulate their positions there's always players and agents trying to manipulate their positions and right before we went to break we had a caller uh Johnny. Thank you Johnny for listening I appreciate you as well as all of our listeners in Chicago. Johnny called from Chicago it is a foregone conclusion which it has been for months that Caleb Williams is going to end up with the Chicago Bears. Now what happens with all these other quarterbacks after him we have no idea okay you can start thinking about where Drake May ends up and Michael Pennix and we can go on down the list JJ McCarthy and whatnot we know that already. The news that we got today is pretty hilarious if you ask me it may not be funny if you're a fan of the commanders but what does it matter you got the number two pick you can do whatever the hell you want with it the Heisman award winner Jayden Daniels out of LSU the man who threw for 3800 yards and 40 touchdowns rushed for another 100,000 yards 1100 excuse me had 10 touchdowns Jayden Daniels is doing what a lot of teams do he's meeting with the top teams to get a better sense of who they are and they in return get a better chance and understanding of who he is it's a typical job interview we've all had job interviews you know you sit down you sit down and tell lies about yourself in hopes that you get the job I mean he doesn't have to tell lies because everything that he's done is pretty much on tape now having said that his interview with the Washington commanders and Dan Quinn and Cliff Kingsbury who's now the offensive coordinator it wasn't just Jayden Daniels it's been reported that the commanders had every quarterback that they wanted to talk to show up at once like the same day they had Jayden Daniels and JJ McCarthy and Michael Pennix and and they were all there and Drake May they were all there now is this the impression that you want to make that everybody who has an ego is all on equal footing and and we want to address this listen to this according to John Cahn of ESPN he says that the commander's general manager Adam Peters said we got to see them all together in a group setting they all got a lot of time individually with the coaches and with us they were staggered coming in too it was a great blend of that and working with everyone together in a fun environment someone who didn't think this was fun is agent Ron Butler of agency one sports he represents Jayden Daniels and he liked social media posts that basically said the commanders were weird as hell for having all the players in at one time even if they were staggered and that was pretty much backed up I want you to take a listen to this clip because earlier today on Pat McAfee show Adam Schefter basically said Jayden Daniels might not want to play for the commanders after what they just did I reported it's tracking towards Jayden Daniels Jayden Daniels which it has been the signs point to Jayden Daniels which they do okay and the commanders are going through it after this week when again I think it's a situation where from the outset Jayden Daniels said is had an interest in being other places he just has now the interest is okay what do the commanders do about that do they like there have been plenty of players who have wanted to play elsewhere and teams don't care and they just do what they do or if there's a team that wants him ie a team that used to essentially have a coach that worked them in college like they then they have to trade for him so what do they want to do oh oh you you want to know what he's referring to talk about the raiders he is talking about Antonio Pierce who helped recruit this man Jayden Daniels at Arizona State University that's what he's talking about and and Adam Schefter is right we all got things that we want and places that we want to be I would love to be doing this show on the beach like literally on the beach right now I don't know how productive I would be laid out on the sand but I would love to do this show on the beach now now when it comes down to Jayden Daniels he can want to be teamed up with his old buddy and coach and Antonio Pierce and and throw it back to Herm Edwards and all of this stuff the Raiders don't pick until number 13 and so unless the Raiders are going to have some deal to move down and let's also keep in mind the commanders where the hell are they going to move because they need a quarterback there's a reason why they were working out for and so look this as far as I'm concerned this is just draft manipulation this is an agent doing his job trying to game the system to try to get his player to where he wants to be and so yeah maybe he doesn't want to be in Washington I think all things considered when you take a look at Dan Quinn yeah sure that's one guy you would think that he'll be better this second go-around than he was the first time with the Falcons sorry for the Super Bowl but but having somebody like Cliff Kingsbury there he's worked with a lot of quarterbacks I mean we can even go back to working with somebody like like Pat Mahomes um Cliff Kingsbury may not be the best head coach but I would certainly trust him to go out there and run an offense I also can take a look at the Washington commanders and I could look at their their new ownership group led by Josh Harris and then Mr. Mouthpiece himself Magic Johnson and so I'll tell you this much if I were the Washington commanders I'm gonna borrow a page from the rock or phrase from the rock it doesn't matter what you want it does not matter like if I'm gonna draft you you're gonna pitch a fit you're gonna tell me you're not coming you're gonna refuse the contract you're gonna say you're not gonna play help me out help me what leverage does Jayden Daniels have his agent doesn't want him to play for Washington like come on he's gonna threaten not threaten not to show up and that would be very ballsy for lack of utilizing any other term like I get it you just won the Heisman you didn't just win like back-to-back national championships you didn't just win back-to-back Heisman's you didn't just break every single record imaginable in college football you are not the second coming of of Christ you won a Heisman award you had a gigantic turnaround by the time you went from ASU to LSU and it's admirable but enough to start dictating what you want I think not you know Washington is going through some things okay not things Washington the commanders have gone through some things especially with Daniel Snyder leading the way Josh Harris by all indications from how he operates whether it be the Devils or operates the Sixers he's first class man they're eventually gonna get a new stadium or at least a refurbished one than that dump that they play in and in FedEx I would love to be a part of this squad and I know you can look on the field and you can start thinking about the commanders and go oh man they crap because the reality is the commanders are a team all things considered they haven't had a winning season since 2016 they haven't had a playoff victory since 2005 this is a squad and a team that has been a disaster and I know okay we added Austin Eckler I mean how much more gas does he have Terry McLaurin they got him he needs a lot of help I mean Zach Gertz how much more gas does he have left in the tank so yeah this is a rebuilding team but this is why it's drafting number two here because they were ass four wins last season we'll get you that there were expectations that they would turn things around last season and it didn't happen damn shame but if I'm the commanders and if I want him I'm drafting him it doesn't matter if the agent didn't like that I met with four quarterbacks in one day if I want him I'm drafting him because I just think it's a bad look and I think it's it's undue and added pressure to say you drafted me but I'm not playing for you I just think that's terrible hickey what do you think is this smoking mirrors by the agent would you draft him knowing that he don't want to be there I would just because to your point I don't know what leverage he has where if you say Jayden Daniels at pick number two what is he going to do hold out I think if you're the commanders I think that's a game that you're more than willing to play and I do think this whole thing is a little bit overblown you could be maybe upset about how the process goes or maybe upset that you know hey this whatever one meeting was weird etc I think as soon as you're drafted and you're number two and you're the starting quarterback of a team I think all those concerns all that frustration goes right out the window yeah out the gate take take the money man take your money get your cash get your check nobody is nobody does and gets everything that they want all the time and this this unfortunately well I can't say unfortunately this is a part of the business this is a part of of the draft this is a part of sports this is a part of negotiation this is all a part of the deal let's really call a spade a spade let's all really be honest if I have to take a look at every single athlete and I don't give a damn what sport it is we can look at football baseball hockey the NBA whatever draft that exists we can take a look at all of them how many athletes do you believe really end up in their preferred destination let's really let's really call it even all things considered let's say there's just 30 markets that have professional sports teams 30 cities that you can go to let's say you're from Miami Florida you know where you want to play you want to stay close you don't want to be home in Miami you want to stay close maybe you want to end up here in Atlanta you end up in Seattle what are you going to do say no to the money let's say you're somebody from Southern California maybe you're out in San Diego come on out in San Diego you want to stay on the west coast you want to play for the Chargers you want to play for the Rams you maybe want to play for Seattle you want to play for the Broncos oh no you don't want to go play for the Broncos because it's cold you get drafted by New England you're going to say no it's part of the gig you got to take the check nobody gets what they want all the damn time especially in the draft I mean it's very rare that you have top prospects who dictate where they want to go rare and yeah sure in the case of Jayden Daniels can you put out messages can you have messages sent as to what you want to do and where you want to go yeah sure you can it's all a part of the game 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 that's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 Lee is here from Cincinnati you're on the JR sport reef show hey thanks for taking my call JR and I just got to say Jane Daniels is looking at this completely wrong he was in there with a bunch of other quarterbacks you know Pennix with MacArthur with all those other guys who are supposedly supposed to be so great and then the commanders pick him all he's got around say is hey I am the best I'm the best of the cream of the crop nobody else is better than me and I just proved it I went in with as a group and proved to everybody that I'm better than y'all and I'm gonna be better than you in the NFL I would look at that as a plus plus plus if I were him I would look at that as a star on my shoulder you know picking the tail saying you're the best I'm serious I don't know why his agent is looking at it from a bad point of view I would look at it as nothing but a positive positive positive well and thank you Lee for calling from Cincinnati you said two things you said that Jayden Daniels is looking at this from the wrong perspective we don't know how he's looking at this we don't know he hasn't said nothing his agent hasn't said anything but it certainly utilized social media to share the message that hey it's not appreciated that you had all of the quarterbacks in in the same day that is what he said and that's his prerogative and I'm sure there was a message behind that and so it's not so much about being a competitive player this is all gamesmanship you want to know something Jayden Daniels he may not care maybe he doesn't give a damn if he goes to Washington I'm sure he has a preference to play for the Raiders because there is familiarity with Antonio Pierce I'm sure he would love to go there there's no guarantees that that's going to happen and so this is all a part of the business and I'm just saying if I'm the commanders and I think he is the best option to help turn our team and our franchise around and eventually help get us our first playoff win since 2005 I'm gonna draft him it doesn't matter what his agent thinks this is what's going on and I just think it sets a bad precedent and it looks absolutely awful if he's drafted and he's like yeah I'm not signing what are you gonna do what are you gonna do not play not earn your money not sign your contract you're just gonna sit around and rot it's too much on the line Jayden Daniels his agent they can have preferences they sure can but this is the way the league goes and there's a reason why you you tell me the last time you heard this daniels the heisman award winner he met with the washington commanders well he met with the commanders this week in addition to some of the other highly touted quarterback prospects not caleb williams i think we know where he's going that would be chicago drake may jj mccarthy michael pennix jr met with the team and they did it pretty much on the same day in staggered meetings well there are a lot of people who found this to be a little insulting to the prospects who of course everyone has an ego you're meeting with me and him well why not just me everybody wants to feel quote unquote important and potent everybody wants to feel like they're a number one and his agent jaden daniels agent liked posts on social media that basically criticized the commanders for hosting jaden in such a way with all the other quote unquote quote unquote quarterback prospects so were feelings hurt i doubt it just a matter of manipulation if you listen to adam shefner insider for espn he says to the shock of no one that jaden daniels would love to play for a coach that recruited him to arizona state antonio pierce who now happens to be the head coach of the las vegas raiders unfortunately for jaden daniels the washington commanders they pick at number two and the las vegas raiders they draft at number 13 yeah that is quite a gap especially for a lot of teams that need cubies i mean we can think about the patriots right after the commanders the list goes on and on and on so if you're the commanders and you hear and you see this and you hear the reports do you care or do you say man we're gonna draft you anyway just all politics draft the guy if you think he's the man draft him it's really that simple eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven i mean how much leverage does he have he's gonna say oh i don't want to go he's gonna look like a whiny you know what eddie is calling from miami you're on the jr sport brief show here on the infinity sports network what's up eddie what's happening jr how you doing good man good getting to miami beach nice listen uh i've gone because it's funny if i were the riskins i just get rid of don't want it okay get a boat load or drop fix and try to go another way by picking another quarterback this is a kid that has transferred what three times in college if i'm not mistaken well let me let me ask you this eddie where the hell you getting the draft picks from from who minnesota like minnesota has two first rounders you're just gonna take two first like what are we doing they need a quarterback yes i know they do need a quarterback but i'm not gonna let it's all about beat kids being spoiled i don't want to spoil kids that's not going to be happy and it's not going to perform to the top of his ability so i'll find somebody else that will do the way i look at the nfl today it's all about coaching and coaching these kids to be great quarterbacks you got patrick mahone that's a huge boy and everybody else needs coaching uh in miami no he was on the flow he was you know he's no good it's useless and then he became the leading passer it's all about coaching i would i would disagree with that you either have the talent to be developed with the coach or you don't i mean there's only but so much that a coach is going to instill with you you have to quote you quote unquote have to have it can a coach help get it out of you can it get a little bit more out of you can it give you some guidance i think the answer is yes but in the nfl if you if you don't have a quarterback who has it already you've lost and i mean you mentioned tuatanga valoa as an example uh tuatanga valoa is in a great situation with a young head coach who is working with him who's instilled confidence in him who had the team has gotten him a great wide receivers that he can get the ball out to with his great accuracy and they can just run like small uh i'm gonna call him sewer rats but there's there's small wide receivers who aren't necessarily gonna go deep can get the ball on short passes and then just get yards after the catch he's in an ideal situation is that coaching what to is doing i mean i can go back to alabama and look at him and his accuracy and say hey the only thing slowing him down is his size and then also the fact that he's injury prone i don't think that that's changed too much here in the nfl and i'll say this go ahead eddie please go ahead no no it happened it happened with tuat but the thing is that a lot of the kid in chicago that got traded to pisper i just didn't feel a lot of names sometimes just a lot of names justin fields justin fields i think justin field is such an exceptional athlete that has it but he was coached by people that they know how to coach them and get the best out of him i think that's part well i hold on i think that part of that is is true he didn't have the best coaches but i also think when he had an opportunity he himself made some terrible decisions that's on him and so we can look we we can look up and down on coaches and i don't care what sport it is we can have coaches who can encourage habits put you in great systems but if when you're on the court you're making a dumb ass decisions that there's nothing that that the coach can do from that there's a few things that coaches can't do and thank you eddie for calling for miami a coach cannot change your physical makeup and your physical capabilities a coach can't do that a coach can't take a guy six five and say hey man i need you to play like you're 610 he can't stretch him out to six foot ten a coach when a quarterback is on the field he can coach him up and get him in a room and tell him as much as he wants to do he can't stop him from from overthrowing a receiver or not realizing that there's a a linebacker in the middle of the field who's getting ready to trick him into throwing a pass straight to him like that's what you do and so i can look at justin fields and we could look at the coaching and what have you and is he running the ball too much they have him throwing the ball look at the numbers and watch the games when he actually had a chance man i mean we can't blame the coaches no you got it or you don't can somebody help develop it yes but there comes a point in time where it's just like hey you got to be accountable to you like me personally i find it i find it real real cheap and lazy at times when people go oh yeah well if if he was on this team and that yeah yeah sure but if you're as good as you think you are you can make something out of nothing i mean the only case i really found let's just let's stick to the past i don't know 25 years david carr the man ends up with the expansion houston texans this man was treated like a piñata he almost had no chance and that wasn't on some team that just got drafted he just got drafted onto a bad squad he got drafted onto a team that did not exist okay they were garbage there's going to be exceptions to the rule but in most cases you have it to be developed or you got nothing and yeah the coach has to put you out onto the field unless the coach hates your guts do the work do the work the cream rises to the top go out there do the work blame the coach and i wouldn't call the guys spoiled as a part of the business everybody and their mother is moving everybody and their mother is moving around in college athletics right now everybody is transferring everybody wants to be recruited i mean we're at a space in time right now where the duke blue devils are losing talent to missouri like this is this is how sports is right now it wouldn't you want to be somewhere where you want to be if you had the choice and you had the options and you had the leverage wouldn't you utilize it why would it be any different for an athlete it ain't no different if i can get paid and be where i want to be and do what i want to do and i have the leverage to do so exercise that right i think anybody would do it i don't care who you are what you do for a living or where you live we all want to do what we want to do but i think life tells us that hey in the most most parts you can't you can't do everything that you want to do that's not how life goes the toddlers learn that early at least that's what you try to teach them anyway some people never learn it's the jr sport re-show here with you on the been saying wild and crazy things about ryan garcia and ryan garcia is saying wild and crazy things conspiracy theories things unrelated to boxing he's supposed to be in training camp today he weighed in three pounds overweight had to pay like a million and a half dollars to continue on with the fight and they just had weigh-ins like the night before the fight they're going to be fighting tomorrow night in brooklyn new york at the barclays center ryan garcia chug the beer at the weigh-in oscar de la jolla is standing behind him basically ignoring him just looking at the scale to make sure that this doesn't get screwed up anymore and ryan garcia is drinking a beer now we've heard some stories in the past about athletes who like to indulge in a little bit of alcohol i mean i remember famously ron r test meta world peace he said yeah i used to used to drink at halftime i mean we've heard this did it stop him i mean you sweat it out i guess you're okay i've never seen a boxer drink a beat not drink a beer chug a beer he took a bottle on the stage not even a can he took a glass bottle onto the stage and chugged it while he was on the scale hickey now that's some wild wild you know what man i've never seen that before yeah same it's usually too a lot of boxers ufc fighters right very disciplined got a cut weight and be in tip-top shape i have never seen that never seen that that does not seem productive whatsoever now does he does he win tomorrow because he's crazy you know i think you do need a little crazy in you to be successful uh maybe he'll be a little bit slow that right hook may slow down from the uh from the booze uh i'll say sure i've heard of ryan garci have not heard the other guy so we'll go with the guy now now having said that i'm not a professional athlete i'm not going to sit here and tell you i've never had like a beer on a friday night and maybe two or three beers and got up on you know monday morning and got on the treadmill and felt fine but i'm not i'm not a boxer right i'm not a pro i don't know in 24 hours someone who is a finely tuned and finely conditioned athlete like is that beer going to matter tomorrow tomorrow night at at 10 11 p.m or is it going to be sweated out by then you know i mean realistically no it's like i mean assuming by the way that's the only beer he's having i'm assuming he's not back at the hotel slugging them as we speak assuming that's a one and done it'll be out of a system by tomorrow it'll be okay but the principle what a wild dude listen if he wanted to impress me he'd go up there with just like some whiskey neat okay like don't show me the beer have some whiskey have a big old glass take no take the bottle up there and then show me that and then the athletic commissioner probably go all right you're drunk you can't you can't fight tomorrow so maybe that would be a uh a bad idea it's all about the choices that we make people and the decisions and the things that we do anyway before we went to break we talked about not not a drunk but we took a look at jaden daniels and the stories and rumors that he doesn't want to go play for the commanders in dc he wants to play in vegas with his old coach you know antonio pierce and i told you about a month ago dion sanders was pretty much quoted and it was reported that he's going to try to steer his son chador and travis hunter and the draft next year and dion sanders spoke to the media he spoke to cbs sports colorado they were able to pick up this coverage that i'm about to share dion says all of that's a lie he says i got friends all over the league like i'm not alienating anybody listen to dion everybody's saying right you're only letting chador and travis go to six teams isn't this true can we get some insight who who said that and did you see me say that well that's why i wanted to ask you because you know i don't know who's saying one thing about a lie a lie is so fast it can outrun the truth any day uh that's a bold-faced lie um that's a stupid lie i have more than six owners that are friends i have more than six gms that are friends you got to understand i play 14 and i worked another 17 i believe in the nfl network and soap cbs i know a lot of people come on so i would i would never do that before i would disclose if i was that stupid i would disclose the teams i would want them to play for i would disclose to several that i wouldn't yeah that's stupid that's stupidity i would never do that okay i would still think he like everybody else by the time we get to next year he has openly talked about a preference of of wanting his son to play in warmer weather he said that already that he is on record of saying and and why wouldn't he want to try to steer his want to try to steer his his players to particular destinations where they could find success that's what that's what great agents do and granted dion sanders is not an agent he's a football coach but he is one of the most influential people in the game of football and he has been since he played into his time into the media into his time in coaching like like dion sanders got what you call stroke he can pretty much write the script or try to write the script i don't know who's going to represent shadore his son i don't know who's going to represent travis hunter but whoever represents them is going to be working with dion sanders who is certainly going to have influence as to where they get drafted is it ultimately going to work the answer is no but this ain't no different than lebron james trying to tell everybody hey i i got brawny here and if you want a better chance at adding me to your roster then well damn it maybe you need to draft brawny maybe that's a message to the lakers maybe it's a message to the calves i have no idea but when you got that much power and that much influence it would be malpractice not to go out there and utilize it and so dion can try to make it sound nice dion is going to have some say so or try to have some say so like everybody else with power as to what takes place next year in the draft doesn't matter what the hell he said he's already talked about oh i don't want to play
