It's simple. Listen on the free Odyssey app. Thank you to everybody tuned in on your local affiliate.

Got hundreds of them all across the country. Thank you to people locked in on cbssportsradio.com, Sirius XM 158, people listening on a smart speaker. It's been a busy night. Less than 24 hours away from the start of the NFL regular season. We got the Detroit Lions hell of a way to end their season last year, especially for how they started. And then we got the Kansas City Chiefs. Not necessarily the best of starts so far. Travis Kelce dealing with a knee injury appears to be a bone bruise in his knee. And you got Chris Jones holding out for more money. And then you got Patrick Mahomes putting on his cape, just trying to light up the Lions tomorrow.

So we'll see what happens. And so as I do every single Wednesday night, I deliver to you a new top six list and I delivered a top six list of NFL teams for 2023. If you missed the list and it's full explanation and all the fancy audio, listen on the free Odyssey app, download it, hit rewind, and you can get the entire list.

Just for time purposes. At number six, I gave you the Ravens. At number five, I gave you the Bills.

And before I gave you San Francisco. At three, I gave you the Bengals. Number two, I gave you the Eagles.

And number one, I gave you the Chiefs. You have the team that's sitting on the top of the mountain trying to repeat as champions and somebody is trying to knock them off. What's in common here with all the teams that I listed? There's this continuity in being somewhat of a championship contender at different levels. You know, have you competed for a title? Have you gone to a championship game?

Do you have an MVP? And yeah, we can find the positives and the negatives for any team in the NFL. But I think there's a little bit more stability with the teams that I mentioned here. And then it's the quarterback play. For instance, we can take a look at the Eagles and Jalen Hurts.

We've seen his poise. We've seen how he's reacted even after a loss in the Super Bowl last year. And even Bill Belichick, who has to prepare and is preparing right now for the Eagles, he did nothing but praise Jalen Hurts, who he just affectionately called the quarterback. Hurts does a great job of running the show, executing the offense, but also making off schedule plays and, you know, can run, throw.

I got two great receivers, good tight end, some explosive backs. They have an excellent offensive line. They're big.

They're physical. They're well-balanced offense, and it's well orchestrated by the quarterback. And obviously they're well coached. They have a good plan of attack. It'll be a big challenge for us.

And I told you about numero uno. It's the Kansas City Chiefs. And yes, despite the issues that they're currently facing ahead of the game tomorrow, which I think will be a shootout against the Lions, Patrick Mahomes spoke to the media yesterday. And he said, yes, we're trying to repeat as champs, but it's a long season. We're trying to win at the beginning and trying to win at the end. And it's a long journey.

It's a long ride. Listen to this quarterback. Just not being satisfied with getting wins or you're having some early success.

You have to keep building. I think you learn that a lot in the NFL is you might have a great start to the season, but as the season goes on, you have to keep building or other teams are going to catch you. And you want to be the best team at the end of the season, just as much as you want to be the best team at the beginning.

855-212-4CBS. There's certainly additional teams that are going to be good. It could be another team that absolutely wins the Super Bowl. We know about all of the attention the New York Jets have garnered.

We know about the Dallas Cowboys and their history. We can think about other teams. I mean, it's going to be a team that emerges. One of the teams that I mentioned here in the top six, they may fall straight to hell. Is it going to be due to injury?

Is it going to be due to age? All the time, the NFL season is unpredictable. And it is a wild ride, especially now that we have 17 games. I'm going to get to more of your calls. Speaking of teams battling it out for the Super Bowl, in about 15 minutes from now, we're going to have a conversation. Let's take a small break and talk to someone who's going to be battling it out for a world championship in the boxing ring on September 30th, Showtime pay-per-view in Las Vegas. Jermell Charlo from Houston, Texas.

Shout out to everybody tuned in on the loop. He's going to be facing Canelo Alvarez. He's going to be jumping up two weight classes to try to take away his super middleweight titles. And so this is going to be a big fight. We'll talk to Jermell Charlo for all my boxing fans in about 15 minutes. But let's get to the phone lines before we do that.

And let's not waste any time. Let's talk to Dupree, hopefully still not in the restroom, calling from Houston. Go ahead, Dupree. Yes, sir.

Mr. Jermell, I owe you a apology. Really, the reason why I was in the restroom. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay.

I kind of know why people go to the restroom. I can think of a ride for reasons. You don't need to tell me. It's okay.

Go ahead. Yes, sir. Well, I think it's one team that I want you to look at very good this year. That's the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Please do, because they're going to put a hurting on the 49ers Sunday. That's the first team. Yes, sir. Okay.

So, but would you say, wait, wait, wait. Would you say the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the best teams in the NFL? They are one of the best teams. They are a Cinderella team, Mr. JR. Ah, okay. So they're not one of the, they're not a top six team, but they're a Cinderella team. Yes, sir.

A team that you got to watch. Okay. Because...

Okay, go ahead. What else? Because of their quarterback, Kenny Pickett. Yeah.

That young man, that young man is something else. And then we got a good defense and a good running game and we got the best coach in the world. All they got to do is keep on playing. They won nine games last year with a rookie quarterback.

Yeah. Well, let's see, let's see how he continues to grow. And I don't know if I go ahead and call Mike Tomlin the best, but he is one of the best. I'd agree with you there. And I know there's a lot of people in Pittsburgh who don't, you know, agree with that sentiment. When I go up to Pittsburgh, I'm always a little shocked, a little surprised at people who want to give Mike Tomlin the boot, especially when things aren't going the right way. I'm like, damn, do you, do you guys know you, do you guys know that it could be worse? Have you seen some of the coaches in the NFL? He's one of the good ones.

You got to appreciate him. 855-212-4CBS. It's 855-212-4CBS. Zach is calling from Detroit. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show.

Hey, JR. It's the first time caller here. So with the Lions, you know, there's, as a fan, there's two sides of the coin where you could expect so much as a Lions fan, but really there's also the other side where you can just fall flat and the Lions have a high chance of doing both, of just falling flat and being the same old Lions. Yeah. Sounds like last season.

Right. Or for the first time and maybe forever, you're in the upper class of teams in the league. So, I mean, looking at your list, I agree with it mostly. I mean, my coworker is a Ravens fan. I don't see the Ravens being that much of a threat to win anything anymore with who they have, but if you're looking at in the mid-season, the Lions have a high chance of being in their top six. Right now, it seems like they're in their, you know, you, if you're talking college basketball, they're in the first four out, but really they, if you're going through the mid-season, they have a high chance of being in the top six in the NFL. Yeah.

They have a good chance of going into the postseason as they should. But as you mentioned, the Detroit Lions, at least at this point, and we can look back at last season, are they, are they, I hate to say this, Zach. Hey Zach, you old enough to drink? Yes. Four years over from it. Okay.

You're four years. So you, you've been out of bar before, right? Yes. Have you ever been out of bar when they turn the lights on? You know what? I've been to college parties like that, but no, not, not that late at the bar.

I'm usually home sleeping. Well, that's, that's a good thing. Also try not to, try not to be at the bar when they turn the lights on. Let me, let me put it to you this way. The Detroit Lions trying to deal with them is like hanging out with somebody at a bar late at night. You have no idea what the hell they're going to look like when they turn the lights on. I mean, you could be like, oh my God, this is great.

Or you could be like, oh my God, what the hell have I been doing for the past hour? And so yeah, we can get to the middle of the season and the Lions could be good or the Lions could be bad, or they just could be average. We'll see. I hope I have a good Thanksgiving game, but if we look at last season, it was the tale of two seasons. And I certainly hope that they can continue on the momentum that they had at the end of last year.

And I know all of Detroit is hoping for the same. Zach, thank you for calling from the D man. You take it easy. Thank you too. No doubt about it. Hey, good, good luck, man.

Good luck. I mean, they got all these running backs now. You're bringing in Jamir Gibbs. You're expecting big things out of him. Jared Goff.

I mean, how much is, is he going to continue to run? Is, is he being overlooked based on what he did out in Los Angeles and now getting second life in, in, in Detroit with the Lions, he was supposed to be a placeholder. I think there's a good chance that he still might be that dude, but yeah, the Lions, they should be a good team. And if we take a look up and down at that division, we know why they should have a good chance to win.

And it's because some guy decided he didn't want to play in the division anymore and wanted to move to New York. This is Mr. Aaron Rogers, 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS, 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. Steve is calling from Florida.

You're on the chair of sport brief shop. Hey, how y'all doing? Good, man. I think Jacksonville should definitely be on that list, man. I think Buffalo might be, I think they might be a little bit played out now.

I do. I think Jacksonville is kind of up and coming team with a great offense. And now one thing they were missing was that number one receiver, but the guy that was Ridley now, I mean, I think they're going to throw up a lot of points.

Yeah, absolutely. I think they, they got some good momentum being able to hang in close with the chiefs at the end of last season. We know about that ridiculous comeback against those charges who know how to choke a game away and very well. The Jacksonville Jaguars are certainly a team on the rise. I spoke to Pete Prisco a couple of weeks ago, and he considers Trevor Lawrence to be someone who can compete for an MVP this season.

And to be honest, I wouldn't be shocked if that were the case. And so I think the Jaguars will be good. I expect them to be back in the post season and they are a team on the rise.

And I think maybe at this point next year, depending on how they roll, I might put them on a, on a top six, but they're definitely, definitely a team on the upswing. Appreciate you, Steven. Thank you for calling. Rolando, call him from San Diego. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show.

How's it going? I'm still a Chargers fan here in San Diego, even though they went to LA. I would put the Chargers at five with that high flying offense and those tall receivers looking like a basketball team out there.

We got Justin Herbert, top five quarterback. Sky's the limit, man. It's just, they're just like the Padres though, man. They look good on paper, but they got to prove it. They got to win on the field.

Yeah, I know, man. That's why I, as good as they are, you would think, and I feel this way a lot looking at the roster, I go, this is an all-star team. I mean, they got Pro Bowl talent here and there. I mean, we can look at the other Bosa, the one that, that was the highest paid and now he's only poor now at 27. We can look at Joey Bosa, but we can go ahead and look at Derwin James, who somehow, some way has always hurt.

Ahsante Samuel's kid is amazing. You mentioned the offense, but then they end up going up like 27 to nothing in the playoff game and they choke. So how am I supposed to ever feel confident? It doesn't matter who the coach is. And there's, there's always, always, always some way that they let everybody down. And Rolando's been let down right there.

He had nothing to say. Look, the Chargers every year, man, it's like, oh my God, they're going to kill and destroy everybody. There's just, there's never any consistency. The Chargers are like, it's like throwing something in the oven and go, oh man.

Okay. I took it out too soon. And, and you could never get the consistency right. Like you got it right one time and then you're like, oh, let me try it again and try it again and try it again. And it's always close, but not close enough. You always screw it up. You're like, what's the added ingredient I can put in here to, to make it stick. They never get the job done.

Maybe one day they'll do it by accident. Let's see if a Staley goes out and just helps them choke things away again. Flute is calling from DC. You're on CBS Sports Radio.

Hey, J-Op, thanks for taking my call, man. Been missing to talk to you, but it's going to be a season you're going to hear from me because these commanders are going to do some things this year, man. I'm looking at the roster and I looked at the preseason. I think they filled in all the holes that were necessary and they're maturing. They got an offensive coordinator with the enemy. And I think, you know, by them going eight last year, two more wins here there that could have put them at 10 wins. You know, that put them in this upper echelon of the top teams, you know, and everyone in the division made the playoffs and we handed the Eagles, we handed their butt to them on Monday night football, you know, with their power running game. And I think, you know, we've only want to improve, you know, cause we have the roster from the beginning of the season. You know, we had to wait for our power running back to come back, Robinson, from the injuries suffered from the gunshot wounds and the defensive line, that's about the one of the best in all the football. So don't be surprised, them commanders, I don't know if they're going to make you a top six, but I think they're going to show some improvement this year. Don't be surprised to be in the NFC Championship game. Wow.

Okay, Flute, thank you for calling from DC. That's asking a lot from Sam Howell. I don't know about all of that. We know that even competing in the NFC East is always a tough fight in and of itself. And one thing I would be confident in is the defensive line, looking at Payne and Allen and Sweatt and Young. Young is saying he feels, he feels good.

The best that he's ever felt before. Let's see, let's see what that line can do. More specifically, let's see what the quarterback can do with Sam Howell. I'm going to get some more of your calls after we talk to Jermell Charlo, 855-2124 CBS.

That's 855-2124 CBS. We just talked about a bunch of teams that are competing to be the best this upcoming NFL season, competing to go out and win a Super Bowl Championship. We're going to have a conversation with someone from Houston, Texas. He's trying to knock off Canelo Alvarez and be the best in the sport of boxing. He's here to represent Houston. He's here to represent the South.

He's representing the United States of America. We're going to have a conversation with the junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo going up in weight to take on Canelo Alvarez. That conversation coming on the other side of the break.

I'll get some more of your calls as well. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. It's the JR Sport Brief show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. We got a big fight going down Las Vegas, September 30th, T-Mobile Arena. We got undisputed versus undisputed junior middleweight champion, All Abouts. Super middleweight champion All Abouts.

Right now, we're being joined by Houston's own Jermell Charlo going to take on Canelo Alvarez. Jermell, how you doing, man? I feel good. I feel good. I feel good. I feel good. I feel good. I feel good. I feel good. How you doing, man? I feel good. Chilling. Excited.

Ready to go. You got this fight coming up on September 30th. It seems like a very long time that folks have been waiting on this fight for you to get into a stage like this.

What's taken so long for you to be elevated to a stage? 35-1-1. You're smart. You got power. You got a combination. What's taken so long to get an opportunity like this?

Just everybody moved in differently in the weight class, so I don't know. I don't know what I don't know what could what it could be, you know, and timing is everything. I can't control it. I just got to keep fighting and enjoy what I do and one will make a name for myself. When people look at what this fight could mean specifically for you, trying to get into the ranks of Tommy Hitman Hearns, Sugar Ray jumping up from two weight classes to go ahead and snatch up those belts, that's exclusive, elusive company right there in and of itself. A lot of people talk about you jumping up weight classes, but you're actually the taller fighter.

You got more of a reach. Do you think people aren't paying attention to your size advantage in that regard? It could be overlooked a little bit from from the people, but I think Canelo is paying attention. He's seeing me, you know, my size advantage and, you know, to jump into being one of the all-time greats, it's the idea and wanting to, you know, be the best is one of the things I got to go through is Canelo, and so if that's the chance to have the risk, I got to do what I got to do. Jamel Charlo was joining us here, undisputed champion, a junior middleweight, the JR sport brief show on CBS Sports Radio. Canelo is a global superstar.

We're talking about in the names of of Messi and Bape when you talk about the revenue and such that he generates, you have a following in and of yourself already with your work with Balenciaga. Have you thought about what this victory can lead to you outside of the boxing ring and what would be the next step after this fight? I thought about it. I thought about it, but I don't know if, you know, my mind hasn't, you know, it's just so tied in on training and wanting to win this fight and do it for my kids and my family.

Canelo, yeah, he's a big generator, wanted to come out of the sport, Mexico, and he does an awesome job when you travel and his PR team and everybody's great on the side. And so once I get this victory under my belt, I'll be able to pick and choose how I want to move and master things. And like I said, I'll do it for the culture. I'm doing it for our culture.

I'm doing it for the United States itself. And I hope this brings a different open eye to boxing and sports, period. And that's why I'm so excited about put undisputed versus undisputed versus undisputed. There's a lot of people who have a misconception about you taking this fight versus your brother taking this fight, your twin. Clear that up for us. What was the deal with that? No, I mean, my brother wasn't prepared or wasn't ready mentally and he's been dealing with some issues.

And when I got the phone call, they told me, you know, to let's go and that's it. I'm ready, you know, turning opportunity like Canelo down. Jamel Charlo is joining us here, the JR Sport Brief Show, CBS Sports Radio, taking on Canelo Alvarez, September 30th, T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. You work with an accomplished trainer in Derrick James. How has this camp been different?

How have you approached this camp differently than any others in the past? You know, Derrick James accomplishments. I play a major part in that because of the fact that I'm his undisputed champion. I was his first world champion. Of course, he has Errol Spence who beat Ugas and Derrick won 2020 last year. But we got one Guzman in Texas as well, which is another second coach. And I have a very, very solid team.

Everybody got a different team. And so adding that up, you know, and working with Derrick and Derrick mastering is the idea of what he believed will win against Canelo, plus everyone else. And we all working together under, you know, the same banner.

It's helping us become, it's helping us throw way more confidence in the global effect of wanting to win this fight. There's going to be a lot of people who are going to see you for the first time in this mega fight. There's a lot of people that know you're ready. There's a lot of ready for people listening all over the country who aren't as familiar with you.

And shout out to everybody listening on the loop in Houston, Texas. What can people expect to see from you in the ring if they've never seen you before? Just to represent.

They don't know, you know, what lines only stands for and why I consider myself a line. I'm smarter in the ring. I'm smart. I'm patient. I'm fast. I'm strong.

I got good lateral movement. It's not all about going for the kill every shot. So it's about setting up this victory. And like I said, I do it for the people in Houston. I do it for the city. I do it for the culture.

I do it for Louisiana and the whole surrounding south, you know what I mean? And they will get that genre from me while I'm fighting. Jermell Charlo joining us here at CBS Sports Radio, the JR Sport Brief Show. You talked about elevating boxing here in the United States of America.

You talked about being a face. We know what the big sports are here. It's the NFL getting ready to get underway.

It's the NBA getting ready to get popping next month. What has been that factor in regards to boxing here in the States? We know Mayweather was loved.

He was hated, but he was box office. And it's kind of been that low waiting for that next dude to step up. What's going to make of you? I can't put a time to that. I mean, I really can't. I don't know how to really answer that because I know that boxing is a sport that doesn't have a season.

We're year round with this. So it's in competition with other combat sports like MMA. And so boxing will never die because Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest fighters of our time. And he put a lot in boxing.

And that's a lot of people that put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the sport. So there's going to be, it's going to be real impossible for people to say, okay, one person is the face of the sport. You'll hear that a lot, but that can't be one big face of the sport of boxing, unless you can go up every class and everybody, Roy Jones Jr, everybody have the era. And so that's what makes boxing interesting because you get to go and find out what fighter you like, what fighter is best benefit for you. And that's what's real cool about boxing. One fighter, you might not like him, but you might like this other fighter because one fighter don't throw enough punches are, but one fighter might be like Mike Tyson who go in for the kill, the knockout strong. You might got another fighter that got a good head movement.

You might like a fighter that just because of his lifestyle or wouldn't spend through in the past to overcome. So that's different from NFL. Those are union sports. And when you work underneath a big umbrella, they have different marketing, different promotion, and they have a lot of a bigger audience, more viewerships. So to just get out of there out of nowhere and just boom and make it and say, Hey, look, you know, a fight like Canelo is going to be that fight.

Not necessarily. I mean, Dennis Crawford just won and beat Earl Spence, who was a golden child in boxing. So I'm just kind of trying to figure it all out just as well as the rest of the world. How do you become the face of sports, but the face of boxing, you know, so it's exciting. Jermell Charlo is here with us as we start to wrap things up. You mentioned Seren Sproulford and the last time we saw him in a ring, we saw you outside of a ring. We saw him yapping at you. What's happened since then? Has that kind of chatted down or is that something we got to look forward to in the future?

It can slow down and pick back up. But, you know, everything happens for a reason. Me and Terrence Crawford, we both happy and want to feed our family and we can get in there and it wouldn't make a difference if Terrence Crawford want to, um, you know, give me some more marketing as you get out that ring and climbing on the ropes and excited. I'm cool with that, you know, like, hey, you know why you're looking at me? Because I'm one of the best.

And that's how I view that. You getting ready to take on another one of the best, a big one of the best in Canelo Alvarez. Tell everybody one more time why they need to check out this fight on Saturday, September 30th in Vegas on Showtime pay-per-view.

It's an always don't blink situation and it's always entertaining. And I bring, uh, I bring very dope, um, skills for the ring. And I feel like I'm, I'm worth watching. Where can people follow you along the way, brother? Follow me at Twin Charlo, um, uh, Twin Charlo on Instagram, uh, Charlo Boxing website, um, check in with us at Charlo Boxing Academy in Houston.

Um, that's where we're getting it in at. Thanks so much to my main man, Jermell Charlo. It's the JR sport re-show on CBS sports radio. You're listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio. Hey, JR, how are you, buddy? I really appreciate your show.

Uh, you know, night in and night out. I agree with the last caller once again from Seattle, you do a, you know, a good common sense approach to the show. Thank you for having me on.

Call in now at eight five five two one two four CBS. Oh, somebody thinks I have common sense. That's cool. I appreciate that. That's a, that's a nice compliment.

I guess I have common sense anyway. Hey, a big thank you to Jermell Charlo, uh, for joining us, taking on Canelo Alvarez, September 30th, T-Mobile arena, Las Vegas Showtime pay-per-view. Just trying to get all the belts. We've seen Canelo Alvarez try to go up and wait and take an L to be vault.

And so he's, he's not invincible. We saw a young Canelo take on Floyd Mayweather Jr. And, uh, he's, he's looked okay in this last bunch of fights, but Charlo is hungry. It's going to be a fun, fun one to watch, uh, to see if he can go out there and garner and win, get that upset.

That'd be a cool thing. He said, he's doing it for the South. He's doing it for Houston.

He's doing it for the United States of America. Uh, I'm going to be rooting for a Jermell Charlo. Let's see what he can do on September 30th Showtime pay-per-view.

If you missed the interview, you can go ahead and hit rewind on my boxing heads, hit rewind on the free Odyssey app and check that out. Uh, we talked about the NFL season less than 24 hours away. The Lions are going to take on the Kansas city chiefs. I shared with you my top six list of teams that I think are best situated to have success.

Most likely to have success this upcoming year. I got the chief's number one on the list, probably to the surprise of absolutely no one. And so I'm going to get in more of your calls before we have to roll out. That's eight five five two one two four CVS.

That's eight five five two one two four CVS. Let's go to San Diego and talk to Luke. Luke, you're on CBS sports radio. What's up, man? Hey Jared, thanks for taking my call. Um, just calling in. I like how you, uh, put the Lions on that list. And, uh, I was just wondering, I thought you said you did. No, I didn't.

Let me give a recap for anyone who missed it. At the rate at number six, I gave you the Ravens and number five, I gave you the bills. Number four, I gave you San Francisco. Number three, the bangles. Number two, the Eagles. Number one, the chiefs. I said the lions for anyone who missed it. I said they could be like the lady or the man, depending on who you are or what you're like at the bar.

At the end of the night, you turn the lights on, you could be pleasantly surprised or you could be horrified. So you think they can go either way, maybe sneak in the top six, but probably, you know, I don't even, I don't even know. I don't even know if I, if I'd say top six, like they have talent. They got a lot of young, great talent.

We saw the tale of two seasons last year. And so if they can continue and be the team at the end of the season, as opposed to what they were at the beginning, then all hell yeah, the lions are going to be damn good, but look, are they going to go out there and win six in a row? Are they going to shock anybody? I don't think there's going to be any shock in anybody this year, but they can certainly be good. They can certainly go to the post season. Let's see if they live up to it.

I can see that happening. What about the chiefs? Do you think they might take a slide this year with Chris Jones, the contract situation and Kelsey being hurt?

Yeah. I mean, in the, in the standings, most certainly, if you look at the AFC West and we talked about a lot of the disasters in the AFC West earlier on in the show, you have the Denver Broncos and they, they're dealing with a bunch of injuries and Sean Payton running his Yap and Russell Wilson trying to bounce back. You can look at the Raiders always seemingly a disaster. I told you about the Chargers always finding a way to choke. If there was going to be a team that would surprise anybody to win, I'd give it, or at least a division. If the chiefs were going to slide, I'd go ahead and give it to the Chargers. But man, we talked about this last year or just in a general sense, no Tyree kill.

What does this squad do? Now they have Caderius Tony, who always has injury concerns. You, you can look at Kelsey dealing with a knee bruise, but he's also getting older. And so yeah, the, the Kansas city chiefs, they have their concerns, but I think they will be okay as long as they have Patrick Mahomes. So let's see what happens with him.

If he's healthy, I don't have too many concerns out of them. All right. And then I just have one other question. Okay. Sure.

I'll start charging you, Luke. Go ahead. Last one.

Okay. Who do you have winning the division for the NFCs between the, like for the wildcard, the Cowboys or the Giants? Who do I have winning? And then who do I have getting in as a wildcard? Like I figured one of those two will get in on the wildcard, but what do you think will be the better? I feel more confident in the Cowboys winning the division.

The Giants are certainly going to be competitive, but, uh, it's going to be tough for the wildcard because I think we're going to have a lot of teams that are kind of be kind of mucking stuff up, kind of muddled up. Okay. We don't have like the clear top of the NFC anymore. Just even over the past few years, Tom Brady is gone. Okay. We can look at the bucks.

Okay. The Packers, Aaron Rogers is gone. He ain't there. So I don't think there's that, that clear cut, just here's the top of the division anymore. So we're going to have a lot of teams battling it out. Once you take away, probably, uh, the Niners, things are going to be a dog fight. I would say in the, in the north with Rogers gone, we can look at the east. It's always a dog fight.

We talked about the commanders and Sam Howell right before the break. And then if we take a look at the south, it's, it's, it's going to be a fight as well. Uh, people can look at the Falcons. I think the Falcons are going to be a team at or above a 500 this year. Buccaneers are probably going to be even the saints are expected to be about even. So you think about the NFC east and a wildcard, I would feel confident in the Cowboys to win it. The giants can too, but let's, let's remember this. The Eagles are at the top. So who walks away with the wildcard is it's going to be tough, man. Daniel Jones is going to have to earn his money. It's it's, it's going to be difficult.

We're going to have a good team in the NFC that doesn't get into the post season. Yeah, that's a good point. Well, thanks for taking my call, Jeff. Thank you, Luke, for calling from San Diego.

He got me confused. I'm like, well, damn it. The Eagles are probably the best there. The Cowboys and the giants are going to have to fight it out for the wildcard, man. Are we going to have three teams? All four of the teams ain't getting in from the NFC east. That that ain't happening.

I'm glad you got the Vikings on your top six. Oh yeah. Right. Do they have a defense? They learn how to do that yet? No, 13 to four was an aberration.

Maybe Justin Jefferson can play corner in and he could be like, uh, Oh, nevermind. Eight five five two one two four CBS. Mac is here from Buffalo. What's up, Mac?

Okay. Mac is not here from Buffalo. Hey chef, that's the first time I picked up a call from Mac and the call didn't go on for just three minutes.

Well, four minutes. Mac literally just called in two and a half minutes ago. So Mac, Mac should have been there. Mac knows better.

She's, she's a pro at this point. Well, we did speak to that guy. I'm glad I remember that guy. I'm glad I didn't take his bathroom explanation. Yes.

Yes. That was rather, Oh, J I'm so sorry. I was in the bathroom. Well, what I was doing in the restroom, I'm like, Whoa, like, come on. That was a Dupree.

Damn. You remember his name? Well, listen, not, not many people call you from the bathroom, let alone admit it. Well, I think there's probably more people who call from the restroom than they would, they would care to admit, but that's fair. I'm glad I chopped him down before he started the yapping, man.

I don't, I don't, I don't need to know. There's a simple solution to that, JR. Like, unfortunately, and this is just part of the business we're in, there are commercials and that's what pays for a lot of what we do. And so I would advise every single caller, don't waste an opportunity to speak to someone like JR or Jim Rome, you know, like just go to the bathroom during breaks. There's enough of them.

Hey, I guess they, they figure their own hole. Just get it in while you can. But the thing is you take calls quickly, man, like you move on fast.

So you might get to four or five calls in the segment. You gotta be ready. Yeah, I'm, I'm trying, I'm trying chef. Well, anyway, how are you feeling about the season, man?

Any, any team that you are intrigued with really looking forward to? Listen, JR, not to beat a dead horse here, but I'm, I'm fascinated by Patrick Mahomes. You know, there's so many star guys in this league that don't take OTA seriously. He takes OTAs as seriously as he does an AFC title game or a Super Bowl.

It's a winning mentality that we just do not truly see from individuals his age. It skipped a generation, JR. And so because of that, he's fanatical. Like, did you, did you, you, you've kind of touched on this. Did you see him in his clips on, on Netflix? Uh, I think I watched one episode.

I think, I don't think I went through all of it. He is maniacal. And I mean that in the most complimentary way. This guy is Michael Jordan in the sense that he has to win. He has to win. Now, obviously he's a better teammate than Michael Jordan and certainly he's more faithful.

I'll let the audience decide what they want to do with that. But, but, but in all seriousness, JR, they're going to be the first team in 20 years to repeat. Cincinnati had that window and they couldn't capitalize. And this is going to be the chief's conference and league for 10, 15 years to come, despite the unhealthiness of Travis Kelce. We saw Mahomes do this on one leg.

We saw him do without three wide receivers. It's only going to get easier for him, JR. Yeah. They've, they've won the division, I believe eight consecutive times, six times with him at the helm. It's a wild thing. You know, we opened up the show with Nick Bosa getting paid, getting all that money, top highest paid defender in NFL history. Now $34 million a year, more than Aaron Donald's 31, 122 in guarantees for my folks out in the boot in Baton Rouge. Hey, Kim Mulkey coming off of our own national championship. She just agreed to a new contract, $32 million over the next 10 years, highest paid female coach in women's college basketball history, college sports, college basketball for women is growing. It's a wild world.
