You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio.

It is the JR Sport Brief show here on CBS Sports Radio. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Shout outs to everybody tuned in, locked in all over North America. Wherever you're at, whatever you're doing, I'm glad that you're here.

At work, you could be trying to enjoy your Friday, you could be getting money. I don't know what you're doing, but just welcome to the show. I'm gonna be here with you for the next two hours. It's a four hour show. I get started every single weeknight at 10 p.m Eastern, 7 Pacific. So if you missed the first two hours of the show, hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. Thank you to super producer and host Dave Sheppard.

He's joining us live from New York City. We've already had a busy night to get you set for the weekend. I told you how much I could care less about pre-season football.

I can look at the results and find the information online after the game. I don't need to see my future UPS and shout outs to the UPS drivers. I don't need to see a dude playing today and delivering a package for me tomorrow. I don't need to see him.

No, thank you. We talked about Jadeveon Clowney. God bless him if he can actually stay healthy. He is now a member of the Baltimore Ravens. I do want to talk about Sam Howell. He is the new QB one for the Washington commanders. Nice for him playing one game last year, really. James Harden, he thinks the relationship with the Sixers is beyond repair.

So what does that mean? He's going to whine and cry until he gets his way. We've talked about Messi and we've talked about Ronaldo. Congratulations to Shohei Ohtani. He hit a grand slam tonight, which is nuts. And if all my folks here in Atlanta, Georgia, the Braves beat the Giants 4-0. But for the country, if you are not familiar with Spencer Strider, what you waiting for?

You got that whole mustache going out there, just striking out people. Tonight, the Braves beat the Giants 4-0 and Spencer Strider has more victories than anyone in Major League Baseball right now with 14. And so it's been a busy day, a busy night. The phone lines are open. That's 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. And we were talking because we have so many just huge international stars. And if we want to think about sports here in North America, particularly basketball, the interest is picked up, right?

You can go anywhere people are playing ball. And then we brought up the point that Shohei is coming over from Japan and he doesn't speak English publicly, not really at all. And then you have Lionel Messi, who is also here in the United States of America playing for Inter Miami.

He just had his first press conference. He didn't speak English. And it's just like, well, do they need to speak English to grow the sports? And I'm like, yeah, if they did, it would help. Is it necessary?

Not so much. Messi is already a global figure, one of the most famous human beings on earth. He doesn't need to say nothing. He could go out there and kick a ball and that's the language. The language is the sport that he plays. And for Shohei Ohtani, baseball is in such a peculiar position anyway. Just here in the United States of America, the interest isn't where it used to be. It's no longer, hey, this is a pastime. I think for Shohei, what difference would he make if he spoke English?

I think the answer is nothing really. 855-212-4CBS. Chris, he's back. We were having a conversation from Appleton, Wisconsin. Go ahead, Chris. Yes, Jayar.

So you're a well-troubled man and I follow your show quite a lot. So I know you've been to places like India and many times I've heard you talk about the popularity of soccer in those places. Along that same line, I wanted to let Sheck know, when the green team went to the Olympic games in Barcelona in 1990, the actual most popular player at that time was Diego Armando Maradona. Now don't get me wrong. I love every American sport even though I'm English.

Ken Griffey introduced me into baseball, the 49ers and things like that. But basically where I'm coming from is you hit the nail right on the head when you said the language is actually the sport because there are so many people who unfortunately don't actually speak the language, but the love of the sport. It's almost like the Super Bowl. When you talk of the Super Bowl and they bring up the numbers afterwards and they say, oh, the largest audience was 11.5 million and blah, blah, blah. Hey, I can tell you this. The World Cup final alone has a viewing population of over two and a half billion, billion with a B. So at the end of the day, I think we should actually just appreciate the stars when we see them. And like I said, I'm not disagreeing with Shep.

It might help them commercially, but I don't think it's a necessity. And thank you very much for all you do and, you know, for making my day every time I'm dashing. Thank you.

No problem. Chris, listen, man, I'm hungry. Can you door dash some food over here? Hey, I drive all the way from Appleton to Atlanta.

Oh, my God. When would you get here? Sunday night? Hey, you know, if you can hold on that long, I promise I will make the drive just to meet you. Oh, thank you, Chris.

Let me know when you come to Georgia, OK? All right, sir. Thank you, sir. Be well, be well. Hey, Shep, have you, did you have dinner tonight, Shep? Uh, yes, I did.

Did you? I haven't eaten. No, I'm, listen. You must be hungry. No, I may have to, I may have to, not door dash, I may have to, I do the Uber thing. I may have to have some food.

Uber to get to the studio, man. I don't want to put out a bat signal because I'm going to get so many messages. But, uh, hey, FYI, anybody in, uh, you know, Atlanta, JR is starving, OK?

That's a bat signal. Shep, people are going to hit me up telling me they're going to hit me on food now, Shep. It's not a bad life. What?

I said it's not a bad life. Nah, you know, but I'm hungry. I'm hungry. I didn't even eat nothing, man. Is this, is this a unique circumstance that you don't eat before a show? Nah, I eat all day.

So typically, I don't, it doesn't matter. I've been ripping and running and trying to do work and there's some cool things coming up and I've just been busy all day. You got more, you got more things coming up? Agents of Inclusion. You go on, uh, you do guest spots all the time.

You host your own nationally syndicated show. What more can you do? Well, there's a lot, man. Care to share? Yeah, sure.

Why not? There's a promotion. Oh, hey, listen, everybody in DC, uh, the Universe Soul Circus is in Washington, DC next weekend and, and it's been there for a while.

And, uh, next week we're going to have a promotion where we're, we're going to show love to Special Olympic athletes and Agents of Inclusion at the Universe Soul Circus. And so, yeah, that's, uh, I've been real busy, man. Yeah.

Very busy. That's awesome, man. Yeah.

So just trying to tie things together. But the last thing I ate, I had a curry chicken for, for, for lunch. I need food.

That, that sounds really good. Now I'm guessing like a lot of our listeners, like, and obviously we have different hours than most people. Um, you probably don't eat right before you go to bed. Man, I eat all day.

I don't have no, ain't no formula here. I eat all day. Well, I don't know how you stay so fit then. Cause that's the, that's the word, especially as men, the hardest place to lose weight is our, is our abdomen. It's obviously our stomach area.

And the worst thing for that is people who eat right before they go to bed and they're, they don't digest food properly that way. So it just, it just becomes stored fat. I find time to exercise. Okay.

Not, I'm not sure. Hey, Otani, I'm not, I'm not messy, but I find time to exercise. Gotcha. But you also, you're also selective in what you eat. I know you don't eat junk food. I'll eat whatever, but yes, I, yes, I'm very, yeah, for the most part, I'm not eating a whole pizza every day. Maybe, maybe once every three months I'll eat a whole pizza.

But yeah, uh, uh, I try, I try Shep, I try. Let's talk to Zach. He's from Cleveland. He don't have no food for me, but he's on CBS Sports Radio. What's up Zach? Yeah. No food tonight. My bad.

But Hey, first time, long time. How you doing? I'm okay. Did you eat dinner tonight? I did. Yeah. I was at the guardians game against the, uh, the tigers tonight. Uh, 10 dogs.

You wait dog night there, but you had hot dogs for dinner. Yeah. 10 of them. And congratulations.

The guardians. Yeah. They beat the tigers four to one. So you, you had a good night. Good night, but they split the double headers.

So not, not thrilled, but decent. We'll take it. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Let's go back. You said you had 10 hot dogs. Yeah. 10 of them.

They were a dollar a piece. So you may as well. Okay. I feel bad for the toilet in like another three hours, but go ahead. Yeah.

I'd give it 10 hours, but yeah. Um, my, my call was about, uh, you brought up Shohei and me in the, the thought of, you know, speaking the same language as the city he's in being a Cleveland fan. You know, we're almost 10 years into the Jose Ramirez, you know, experience no English at all. You're right. That's my point. I don't think it matters. I think what matters is you embrace this city and you show them what you're about and they will come around no matter where you're at. And I think Cleveland is a space to be for, for Jose. And he realized that I think this off season creates, you know, that decision for Shohei to figure out is, is it Anaheim? Is it somewhere else? I don't think language matters.

Um, you know, I think it's up to him to figure out where he wants to play and, uh, it could be anywhere. Yeah. You, you know, what's, and it's not funny.

I don't even know if I want to call it ironic. I realized again that Ramirez did not, or does not speak English when he got into that fight with Tim Anderson, who by the way has now apologized for his behavior and everything leading up to that fight. But I'm, I'm looking at Ramirez and I'm like, dammit, he's not speaking no English.

And it was a reminder because like, I'm not checking for who speaks English and not until I see an interpreter there. And I'm like, okay, wow. Okay.

Damn. Exactly, man. And, uh, you know, I'm not sure if you saw Anderson's, you know, if you want to call it an apology, but man, what, what a, what a joke that was. Oh, so what does everybody in America hate Tim Anderson? No, not at all. Not at all. What issue do you have with his quote unquote apology?

So, uh, you know, I think this was posted yesterday. His apology, you know, started off as I apologize to the fans of Chicago for the way I acted and then said, but if it weren't for what the Cleveland team had said to me, I wouldn't have acted the way I did and defending Jose Ramirez, Jose had said, you know, Tim had created some dispute with the team and already, you know, had had, uh, you know, quote unquote, just directed the game, which led to the events. You know, I, I I've been a fan of Cleveland and they've played Tim Anderson over the past four or five years.

Um, and I've noticed little things that, that teams pick up on that, you know, they weren't too fond of the way that Tim was playing. Well, he has certainly been a lightning rod, uh, throughout his career, especially as he's gotten older and I have his, uh, his apology right in front of me. And thank you so much, Zach, for calling from Cleveland, Tim Anderson about that whole dust up with Jose Ramirez. He basically said, I want to apologize to the entire White Sox organization, my teammates manager and coaches, and to the fans for my partner altercation.

It's been incredibly disappointing for me personally and for our team. I will not get into the things that were said to me by Cleveland players, both Friday night and Saturday, but those comments do not excuse my language or conduct. And I take full responsibility for my emotions getting the better of me. And so he's a apologizing, but then also saying that, I guess he was provoked, but then saying that the fact that I was provoked is not an excuse. So, I mean, if you're going to apologize, just, just say, just suck up what you did. You don't got to throw anybody else under the bus.

Just, just acknowledge what you did and just stop there. It's ain't that complicated. 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. Mike is also here from Cleveland. You're on the JR Sportbreeze show. What's up, Mike? JR, I heard you hungry.

You're talking to Michael from Cleveland, better known as Michael, the meat cutter who worked in the food industry for 50 years straight. Now, what would you like to eat? I can get you anything from chicken, chitlins to alligator tails.

I don't want no damn chitlins. I worked all over. I've been, I worked in three countries cutting meat.

Now, what would you like? You're in Cleveland, Ohio and Atlanta. Pardon me? You're in Cleveland, right? I got, I got customer service in Atlanta.

I got a customer number that reaches Atlanta. I can get you Purdue. Wait, wait, wait, wait.

I can get you from Mayo. Wait a minute here. Wait a minute.

Go, go ahead, JR. You're saying that you in Cleveland. Yes. You can get me food here in Atlanta. Yes. Yes. You're talking to Michael, the meat cutter. Okay. I've been the meat cutter since I was 14 years old. I cut meat 50 years in a row.

I have been with every industry you can name in United States. Okay. So is this, is this supposed to be like a challenge or something like that? No, you said you're hungry. I am. I'm starving. I'm on the air.

I'm on Peachtree Street and 14th. I'm starving. You remember, I called you a few months ago. I'm the one to give an all you eat at Euclid Creek for the children that you, that you, uh, mastered. I've been doing that 40 years here in the Cleveland area.

I give an all you can eat at Euclid Creek every last Friday. So what, what am I supposed to do? I'm supposed to ask you for, I don't know. No, I'm gonna get it to you. You just, you let me know what you want.

What would you like to eat? Hold on a second. Okay.

Don't go nowhere, Mike. Hold on. Hold on. Okay. Okay. Hold on. Hey, chef, am I, am I being flim-flammed on my own show?

I think he's, I think Mike's the real deal. What do I want to eat? I don't, I haven't thought that far. What do I want to eat?

I don't know. A chicken sandwich and fries and a salad will do, you know? See, you know, just to kind of peel back the curtain a little bit, you're, you're the ultimate pro because you know, you very well know, I can always do a segment or we do like a taped interview and you could, you could take 15, 20 minutes, 25 minutes to take care of yourself and get some food. But that's the commitment you have to the show each and every night, man.

That's impressive. Seriously. Oh no, I don't know how to get a hold of food, but this man, Mike is saying he can get me whatever I want to eat. He's in, he's, he's hundreds of miles away from me in Cleveland and he's telling me he can get me, hold on, let's bring them back. But I, I think Mike's the real deal.

Like he said, he's, he's been in three different countries doing his given profession. Like he's the, well, let's like, he heard what I want to eat. Hold on. Right.

Hey, hey Mike. Yes. You heard what I want to eat, right?

No. Did you want lamb, veal, pork, beef, curry, well, you hear curry chicken today. Listen, I'm at UCCW. I'm United Food Commercial worker.

I get a nice pension for the work I did. I can get you what you want to eat if you're hungry. I, I would like to have a chicken sandwich, some fries, and maybe a salad. That's it.

Okay. That's prepared food. I'll say it's prepared food, but I wanted to get you a meal. That's prepared food.

I'm talking about some fries. How's this going to work? I'm sitting here in the studio for another hour and 40 minutes. Where are you getting food from? How's it going to get to me?

I got, I got a 1-800 number to Atlanta that will get the food to you. Damn. Okay. I'm in the food industry. That's what I do for a living.

That's what I did for 50 years straight. I'm Michael the meat cutter known as Meat Man Mike. Okay. So what do you want me to do?

We're live on the radio. What am I supposed to do? I told you what I want. You saying no.

What you want to do? I'm going to send you some prime. I'm going to order you prime because that's about the closest thing down there to Atlanta. Prime? Prime. P-R. You see them big trucks on the highway.

P-R-I-M-E. Prime. Okay. Okay. That's the food industry. So what do I do? Do I, how long is this food supposed to be getting here? Are they going to get here at 7 a.m.?

Like what am I doing? Well, I'll tell you what. It'll be there on your next shift Monday. It'll be there. Monday? Oh, I'm hungry now. What are we doing? What you want me to do? Live to you and say it's going to be there tonight? Yeah, I'm hungry now. I can wait. I can wait, Mike. I can wait. Yeah, but I'm going to make sure I take care of you, JR, because you're talking to Michael the meat cutter, United Food commercial worker.

I'm going to make sure you never have to make a phone call like this again in your life. Okay. Everybody, everybody loves meat. I like it. Hey, Mike, listen. We're going to get your information off the side and then we'll talk about it, but I got to eat today, okay? Okay. All right. Thank you, Mike.

Appreciate you. Like I'm starving now. What am I going to do with meat on Monday?

It's the thought that counts. It is, but I'm starving. I'm hungry. I'm starving, man. Well, if you move back to New York, I promise you that anytime you are hungry, I will make sure that I have someone substituting for me. I will go out and make sure I get you whatever. Oh, I don't need that crap.

Come on, man. I don't need that. Listen, bro, there's food downstairs from me here from the studio. There's food downstairs.

So what are you complaining about then? I can't go downstairs and come back. I can't do that.

Yes, you can. Not enough time. JR, how much time do you need? I got to text somebody, get the food.

JR, you don't think I can fill five minutes? If you're hungry, take care of yourself, man. Nah, I want to eat. I want to enjoy the food. Who wants to eat food and not enjoy it?

Yeah, but like... So take five, 10 minutes, get your food, and then during breaks, or if you go to me, I'll make sure I extend my answers. You can have like 30 seconds. Okay.

Too much to think about. Got it. I'm here. I got a little... Not a little while, not a little while, but I'm not here forever.

I don't got to wait until Monday, but I can live. All right. Listen, different roles. I get it. You know how often I eat during a show? Where did Mike go?

Mike disappeared. Yeah. Anyway.

I think he thought the call was done. All show you eat? Pretty much. Yeah, man. I mean... Oh, good for you. Well, the thing...

I can't. I got to talk. I know. You talk a lot more than me. Your name is on the show. It's your show. I get it. But I'm saying though, JR, if you just give me a heads up and be like, Shep, just go 30, 45 seconds and just make sure you slow down your words a little bit. We can pull this off. Yeah.

No, not really. All right. Got it. I'm going to find food when I get off. Somebody going to hit me up. 855-212-4CVS.

That's 855-212-4CVS. I'm going to get some more of your calls. I'm going to think about the food that I'm not currently eating. We're going to get into some NFL. We're going to talk about NBA.

We got a lot to do. It's the JR Sport Brief Show. CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. I got to tell you, JR, the only highlight of my night is being able to talk to you. One of the best and most underrated in the business. I got to tell you, you're amazing. Call in now at 855-212-4CBS.

It's the JR Sport Brief Show on CBS Sports Radio. You know, before we move forward, I got to congratulate a guy. Earlier this week, we learned that Anthony Richardson will be the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. And today we learned that Sam Howell, what a huge shock.

That's sarcasm. He's going to be the starting quarterback for the Washington commanders. And when you have Jacoby Brissette as the alternative, I mean, why would you turn to Jacoby? And so Sam gets the job.

I got no idea. And I, if you're running around making a bold proclamation as to how Sam Howell will perform based off of what he played one game last season, like one game. All right. So I'm not going to get up in arms about him, but this is a good move. I think he's going to be stable. I don't think he's going to be turning a rock around all that much. And so we know about Washington and their defense and their front four.

We know about the new weapons that they have. It's nice to see Brian Robertson playing, especially being an additional year removed from being shot. Yes, a running back shot and came back in one year. He's like a football version of 50 Cent. And I'm just happy for Sam Howell.

The more new blood that we have in the game, I think the better. And so Ron Rivera, who put his foot in his mouth about a week ago when it came down to Eric Bienemy, Ron Rivera had some positive, positive, positive, positive words to say about Sam. Listen to Ron. I talked with Eric Bienemy and Tabita yesterday. And after our first preseason game, after both those joint practices, I'm going to name Sam our starter this year going forward. He's basically met the challenge that we talked about, and that was seeing the growth and improvement from OTAs and mini camp, and then talked about going into training camp and continue to grow and show us what he's capable of. And we've been very pleased with it to the point where I decided yesterday that we were going to name him the starter going into the regular season. Well, that's nice.

Good for him representing from North Carolina. Well, Sam, how do you feel about this? Shout out to Coach Rivera for just believing in me and always trusting me really since I got here. You know, so just shout out to him and just all my coaches, you know, EB, Tabita, Zampeasy, just Luke, all the guys, Jacoby. There's been so many guys here that have helped me in my development and my career that have ultimately led to the position I'm in today. So really just a shout out to all those guys. Was there a point during this process where you just felt like I've got this, I can be this starter here?

Yeah. I mean, obviously I'm always, I'm always confident in my abilities and I'm always confident in my ability just to come out here and perform and do well for this football team. But I think just throughout camp, you know, I think every single day I've gotten better and more comfortable and I feel like I'm in a really good place right now with the offense and I feel really good going out there every single day and I feel good about my chances to go out there and execute. Oh, good for them. Nobody knows how the hell this guy's ultimately going to perform, but he's going to get the chance and the opportunity.

And I like that. Let's think about some of the rookie QBs who are going to be participating almost right out of the gate this upcoming NFL season. You have Bryce Young, you have Stroud, we know Anthony Richardson, you can now, and okay, yeah, sure, Howell isn't in the same draft class, but he's going to get his chance. And if we got to think about dudes that we've seen a little bit, come on, you want to tell me that Fields isn't on that list?

That Love, Jordan Love isn't on that list from the Green Bay Packers perspective? This upcoming NFL season is almost like a reawakening. It's almost an introduction to a new era when it comes down to quarterbacks.

We talked about this last week. All the old dudes are gone. Peyton Manning, been gone. Phillip Rivers, gone.

Making babies. Tom Brady, gone. Drew Brees, gone. Elon Manning, gone. Ben Roethlisberger, gone.

Has a podcast. We can go on about some of those QBs who've just felt like furniture. Matty Ice, Flacco.

Oh, yeah. Well, Joe Flacco. And yeah, well, Matt Ryan hasn't officially retired yet. He's done.

Yeah, he is, but he's not going to call retirement because he wants to collect that check. Correct. It's a new era, man. New time, new day.

All these young QBs. I love it. 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. Congratulations to Sam Howe. I think he's in a better position than Anthony Richardson, but that's, we talked about that. Dustin is here from Texas. What's up, Dustin? What's going on, brother? How are you doing tonight? Good, good. What's up?

Man, that Atami thing, man. Talking to them, not speaking their language. You know, to me, I'm on both sides of the fence. I mean, one side, I don't think it makes them look bad and another, it does. I mean, you bring another foreign athlete to the United States, of course, you know, they're going to learn how to speak the language, but, you know, it's up to them if they want to learn or not.

You know what I mean? Yeah, but I don't, I don't think it's a matter of them looking bad. Like, who, who cares? Does anybody care that Shohei doesn't speak English? Does anybody really care? No. Oh, that's, exactly.

So, what's the big deal? He doesn't speak English. Who cares? Yeah. His English, he hits home runs.

He had 43 of them. Who cares, right? Right.

I mean, he's got a big fat check coming. I mean, yeah. I mean, yes. I mean, and, and, and, you know, what's crazy is, and like, and like I was going to say, you know, you've got guys like baseball, football, soccer, football, basketball, man, you got guys that, that rodeo that come from Brazil and all these other countries, they learn the English because they stay in either Texas or Oklahoma or somewhere in the Southern or Northern region. They learn.

I mean, the, you know, the PBR or the PRCA ain't going to, you know, make them, have them look bad because they want to learn the language. You know what I mean? Right. Yeah. But, and thank you so much, Dustin, for calling from Texas. I appreciate you.

Let's also keep this in mind. Even if we took a look at the, the English speaking athletes in North America, the NFL, the NBA, major league baseball, how much substance are you actually getting from the athletes? What are the athletes saying that's, that's making you go, Oh man, this is on a, on a day to day, like, like what is being said besides our, or outside of a, you know, maybe an antagonistic relationship between the media and the players what's being said, what is the most, I don't know, introspective, deep groundbreaking thing you've heard from an athlete post game? Nothing. They ain't saying nothing. They don't want to talk. They want to go home. They want to get on the bus and get on the team plane and fly to wherever they need to play next, or they want to go home.

And so to think that if, if, if I don't know, Otani or Messi spoke English or decided to speak English publicly, we going to get something groundbreaking? No. Sure. Marshawn Lynch is an extreme example. I'm just here so I don't get fined.

I'm just here so I don't get, and we can go through different iterations of it. Athletes aren't saying anything to the public anymore. They're going on social media. They're sitting around on podcasts.

There's a certain aspect of the traditional media space. It's, it's tough to digest and swallow. It's, it's difficult. It really is. 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. I'm going to tell you what's not difficult. Tyreek Hill and his study habits. He revealed something unusual when it comes down to studying opposing defensive backs and safeties.

We'll hear from Tyreek Hill and his thoughts on the other side of the break. It's the JR sport reshow on CBS sports radio. You're listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio. I'm going to get off the radio. I just want to let you know, I commend you for what you're doing, JR. That's, that's great what you're up there doing, speaking, engaging, and talking to these college students. We need more of that.

Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. Who's going to get his opportunity to start for the Washington commanders this upcoming season for the life of me, even though I'm happy that he's getting this shot, this opportunity. I don't know why that there's there.

The fans were just, just over the moon about the guy. I'm like, what, what have you seen? You seen two games, three games, four games, five games, half a season. The answer is no, you haven't. I mean, are you sitting there and practiced and then, then that'd be great, but if you're not, then, then tough.

And so I hope he works out. This has been a franchise and a team and an area and a region that seemingly has been punished. Well, just since Daniel Snyder, what can I say? 1999. It is 2023.

It's a long time to be punished. And, oh yeah, by the way, oh my God, I got to get this in here. Robert Quinn. You might know Robert Quinn.

He's a quarterback getter. Well, Robert Quinn arrested and charged with, well, don't take my word for it. Listen to the news.

This is live at five. The police have made an arrest in a hit and run incident in a neighborhood that left several cars damaged and neighbors in shock on Tuesday. And the person they say is responsible is a familiar face to some sports fans, veteran NFL player and Fort Dorchester high school alum, Robert Quinn turned himself in this morning.

He played last year in the super bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles. Quinn is charged with third degree assault in battery hit and run with property damage and four counts of leaving the scene after a traffic incident. Now, Somerville police say that incident happened Tuesday night in the Carrington Chase community off Miles Jamison Road. Live five talked with neighbors who shared the video and pictures with us. They reported someone in a pickup truck driving recklessly, hitting four hitting four cars, a gate and a light post. Damn.

Listen, there's a lot of people listening all over the country, quite a few people, a lot of people on the road. Don't be Robert Quinn. Please. So he was arrested, hit and run, assault South Carolina. Don't be Robert Quinn, his surefire way to end his career or what was left of it.

Now, 32, 33 years old with this hanging over his head, he just might completely be done. 855-2124 CBS. That's 855-2124 CBS. Tom is calling from Pittsburgh. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. What's up, Tom? Hi, JR. Thanks to you and your eloquent and erudite producer fellow there whose name escapes me for taking my call.

I just wanted to mention that. Oh, no, no, his name is important. It's Dave Shepherd. Dave Shepherd, man. That guy is quite a good public speaker.

I'll just put it at that. I like him. He's good. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that I even mentioned Kenny Pickett and I think that the Steelers, well, I think Kenny Pickett is going to drag Matt Canada and Coach Tomlin and Art Rooney to the AFC Championship Game. This year? Pardon me? This year?

This year with that array of wide receivers and that defense, as long as TJ Watt doesn't get hurt and then let him call some audibles before the fourth quarter, which is a real problem. They're just, man, they're just going to kick butt and they're going to win the division. I mean, they're not, I'm sorry, I told you not to put me on the air because I'm not, I get all flustered. I think there are much better people. Wait, hold on. What are you flustered about? Oh, I don't do well in public speaking.

That's why I admire your public speaking. Who cares? Well, listen, Tom. There are people listening to us right now, but what's the big deal? Like, they're all humans, right? Who cares who they are?

Right? Oh, no, I don't want to bore you. I just want to point out that the Steelers are asleep this year. Okay. Listen, you ain't boring anybody. You're talking to me. Like, there's nothing boring about talking to me, is it?

No, no, no, no, no. I'll try to relax. I think that- Yeah, relax. Well, forget football. What else do you like to do, Tom? Oh, goodness. Well, I'm a former photographer and I currently play the French horn in the church group. I'm 68 and I really don't have all that much going on, brother. Oh, well, listen, Tom, I might be a loser. You played a what? The French horn?

Yeah, yeah. I play in a church group and so that keeps me out of the bars several nights a week. You're better than me. I don't have no musical talents. I don't do anything. No, but you do good in the world.

You've got all kinds of things going on. I'm talking about being a musician. I suck.

Oh, well, I'm an amateur. So I just would like people to give Kenny Pickett a good look. He's a lot more prepared for this season than he was for last season.

Remember, they didn't give him any first team reps in pre-season and then- He has clay pool now if he's healthy. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Well, listen, call me when the season starts, okay, Tom? All right. Well, you heard it here first.

We're winning the division. Damn. Okay. Thank you, Tom. You be safe. All right. No doubt.

No problem. He was a little nervous to be on here. What are you going to be nervous about? I'm not the boogeyman. I'm not going to take your lunch. I'm a nice guy.

There's nothing to be nervous about. There's a bunch of folks talking. That's it. 855-212-4CBS. That's 855-212-4CBS. George is here from Miami. What's up, George?

You're on the JR Sport Reef Show. What's up, JR? How you doing? I'm good. I'm even better now that the windows, you rolled them up or something.

Something happened. I hear you, brother. I'm just having my cigar with my windows down.

Oh, no, no, no, no. We don't do that. You're on the radio. Roll your window up. All right. I'll do that, bro. I just did. Too late. Don't go nowhere. I'll get you back.

Chris from California. You're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up? JR, how you doing, man? Very well.

Great. Hey, I want to just drop a note on Aaron Rogers, man. I think he's bringing that in factor with him to the jet. You know, defensively, to be honest, I don't know as much as you guys do, but I think that offense is going to point, especially with the back there just picked up. I don't know. You have any thoughts on that?

What's the last comment that you made? I'm not sure about the defense. I haven't really been in the position.

Oh, no. The Jets defense was one of the best defenses in the NFL last season. The Jets defense kept them alive into games where they could win seven games, period. So I think with an improved offense with Aaron Rogers, the New York Jets defense, at least at minimum, they'll be able to get a little bit more of a breather.

That's good to hear. I remember the defense, you know, pretty well last year. I was thought maybe they lost some people or something. The defense is intact now, huh? Yeah, I can't think anybody of massive importance that the New York Jets lost. If anything, they secured.

They're probably the most important player on the defense. That's Quinnen Williams, a 96 million dollar deal. Sauce Gardner is moving into his second year of his contract. Awesome. Anyway, thanks, man. Rogers is taking him places and I love you guys, man. Talk to you soon.

Okay. Thank you so much, Chris, for California. Yeah, Aaron Rogers. There's a reason why the Jets are relevant. It's because Aaron Rogers. Now, that is a professional athlete that speaks English and sometimes more recently over the past couple of years. I wish he did not speak.

You've been saying some wild things but so far so good. Aaron Rogers has been fitting in. 855-2124 CBS.

That's 855-2124 CBS. Speaking of fitting in, you've heard about this guy. He wants out. James Harden. He doesn't want anything to do with the Sixers.

He provided an interview back here in America on his standing with the team and what he thinks is gonna happen with the 76ers and let's just say it's not positive. You'll hear it from James Harden's mouth on the other side of the break. I'm gonna get to your calls. 855-2124 CBS. Me, I'm JR. It's the JR Sport Reef Show. CBS Sports Radio.
