It's channel 375. You got a smart speaker, ask it to play. The Infinity Sports Network. Thank you to Chris Miles for joining us to talk some NBA action. The season is about a week away, less than a week away.
And thank you to Luke Easterling. For joining us from Athlon Sports, we got a lot going on today, tonight. In the NFL Thursday night football the Steelers Currently up seven to nothing against the Bengals. We got the Mariners and the Blue Jays. Currently tied at no runs.
And then we just had Things go final. The National League Championship Series. The Dodgers just beat the Brewers. Three To one. Sasaki was on the mound to close things out.
Took him thirteen pitches, one strikeout. The Dodgers now have a three O Series lead here against the Brewers It looks like the Dodgers are on their way back. to another World. Yeah, yeah. Damn.
Okay, we're going to have Shohei Otani. It looks like he'll be on the mound next in game four to close things out. Ashoheo Tani opened things up today. First scorer of the game, first inning, Shohei Otani scores on a, well, he gets a triple. and then he scores on a Mookie Betts double.
That opened up the scoring. You had Edmund, Tommy Edmond with an RBI single. You had Freddie Freeman score on a pickoff error. And there you have it. The Dodgers end up winning 3-2-1.
one The brewers are cooked, folks they're done.
So of course we'll talk more uh baseball. As the night continues on, we got one game in the books. We'll talk some NFL. and I'll get to your calls as well. If you want to communicate, get at me.
888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-48. four I S N. Bodget. Bader, butter, botcher.
Ryan Botcher. Can we put a fork in these guys now? The brewers that cook, right? Like the sausages and all that other stuff they sell in Milwaukee, they're done. Yeah, they're done.
I would say. Just pack it up and stay healthy for next year. Back it up. Are we going to get any calls from those Brewer fans who were calling us in July and August? Are they going to call us?
No. I would probably not hear from them.
Well, you might get a call complaining about the Dodgers and the salary cap. Oh, okay. But. Them but their team now. From some oh, from somebody in Milwaukee?
Yes. Oh my God. JR, how dare you? Oh, JR, you think the Dodgers, you like the Dodgers? You think they're going to go back to the World Series again, J.R.?
Do you see that we've beat the Dodgers? I said, bruh, it's June, it's July, it's August. I said, come talk to me in November, come talk to me in October. Here we are. Where are you at now?
Like, I don't have no problems ever being wrong. I don't expect to be right all the time. It doesn't matter to me if I'm right or wrong. I just. I just try to evaluate what I see and just tell you.
But you got some people who really care about being I do not care. I'm just saying. Where them guys at? who called me And told Oh, we beat him six to nothing, JR. You're not giving the Brewers any respect.
Okay. All right.
Okay. 888-710-4ISN That's eight eight eight seven ten four I S N. Todd is calling from Maryland. You're on the JR Sport Ree Show. It's up, Todd.
PJ, all right. I want to call back the Dodgers payroll.
Okay. Do you know what their payroll is?
Well, I know after taxes it's uh it moves into five hundred million. Take us more than that.
Well, o okay.
Well, what is you think? What is you are you asking me, are you telling me? No, no, no, no. I I'm asking you. That's all.
It's about five hundred. I mean, if if it's five twenty five, screw me. But they all all things considered, They're paying about $500 million when it comes to tax. Bacha, what is it? Yeah, so they've made 752 And they spent five fifty, basically.
Okay. Okay. How about Wil Milwaukee? What's her payroll? Do you know?
Milwaukee has made $335 million.
Well, that was last year, and they're paying $137. this year.
So wow. Yeah, so they're they they're pocketing two hundred million to the Dodgers.
Well, forget about two hundred million. Forget about what they're pocketing. What is what is the books? What is the payroll just for players?
Okay, so the tax payroll for Dodgers is $399. And then they're paying $150 in luxury tax. Oh, so that's that's yeah, that's one of 500. Yeah, they're they're at five fifty.
Okay, yeah, okay. Oh, the brew the brewers are at one thirty seven.
Okay. Yeah.
Okay. What a camp. Do you think at any point they are It will have a, I guess, a work stoppage or a salary tax. Yeah, we talked about, yeah, Bacher and I talked about this yesterday. Yeah, I think so.
Like, how can you have this continue going on? The numbers are astronomical. The astronomical Like, ha where where's the parody? I mean, they they It's one thing, I get it. The numbers are so much higher.
We can say inflation, everything. I don't also think it's sustainable. Like if I go back, if I go back twenty, twenty-five years. And I think about all the money that the Yankees were spending at at one point in time. The Yankees had like Jason Giambi, Derek Jeta, Mariana Rivera, Gary Sheffield.
They had all of these guys. On one team. Enjoy. Yeah, George Steinbrenner was paying out the ass, okay? But at that point in time, 25 years ago, 20 years ago, I still I I think baseball was in a better economic state.
Okay, we didn't have Social media, the way that it is. Baseball did not have to go ahead and change up its rules and. Speed the game up. I think people still had more of an attention span 20 and 25 years ago. And now the fact that the the the chasm is widening.
And not just between the teams who spend on payroll and the teams that don't. The salaries on the individual teams are really widening. Like you got a guy who's who's who's paying who's getting paid nothing. A couple male, and then you got a couple of guys on the end of the locker room. Getting seventy million dollars a year?
And I get it. I don't care how much of of Shorhe money is deferred. It's not sustainable. I also think about the business model From a broadcasting perspective, baseball is trying to figure that out in a streaming space. You know, they're trying to get butts into seats by speeding the games up.
I can tell you, I can go to any Braves game that I want, okay? I'm sitting here chatting with America. But if I get Braves tickets. You want to know who don't want the Braves tickets? Younger people, you want to know some of the stories that I've gotten?
They want to go, they get the tickets, they want to take photos and videos for TikTok, and then they want to leave. You know, so if baseball has developed Into a niche sport, okay? I hate to say it. It's America's pastime. It's still bringing in billions of dollars.
It has a lot of worth because, well, it's live sports, live anything, is something that still holds value from a viewership perspective and standpoint.
So it's not going anywhere. It's not going to fall off of a cliff. But I do not believe, and I've been saying this for years, whether it's Here on the Infinity Sports Network, whether it's Locally here in Atlanta, whether it's locally in New York on WFAN. The business model for baseball is not sustainable. Like, let's think about this.
And I know we live in a wild world. But every now and then, a bubble pops, okay? You mean to tell me? that if we keep up on what we're doing right now, Forget Shohei Otani, okay? And forget Juan Soto.
Are we going to get a baseball player? Who's gonna get a billion-dollar contract? Is that where we're going? We got it. We're going to get a baseball player.
Hey, man, I'm going to pay you $100 million for the next 10 years. Is somebody doing that? I mean What are we doing? I don't think so.
So you asking me about a work stoppage? Yeah.
I think things are going to go to hell before they get better. Like, I think you gotta rein in the horse. And I look i baseball can make as much money as they want. Broadcasting. Are they going to continue to make this money at the door?
I mean the stadiums are getting smaller, they're not as big as they used to be. Baseball stadium used to be, you know, let's jam 50,000 people. into a place. I mean, the the stadium that they're building in Vegas on the strip, I think they're gonna put 35,000, and of course, they want to make the money on sponsorships and premium experiences and fancy food. I just don't think the current model is sustainable.
Because eventually When they're when TV, quote unquote, normal TV kind of goes by the wayside. And the streaming companies are only competing really amongst themselves. You think the streaming companies are just gonna say Well, I got to outbid ESPN. They're going to be like, screw ESPN. This is not worth this much.
Why are we gonna pay all this? The Netflixes and the Apples and all these other places, the Primes. They're gonna go, Yeah, we had to overpay to get you here. But now that we got you and there's less competition, Some of these television deals, which is bolstering a lot of this money. I don't think they're going to have as much value.
Hmm. I know that was a long, long ass explanation. There's a lot of business stuff in there. But uh that was very interesting moment. It was.
Well, things are changing, media is changing, how people consume everything is changing. Like if I'm the NBA and Adam Silver let it slip. couple weeks ago and then he had to kind of apologize a little bit for it. Yeah, he was asked about the price. I believe of watching NBA content.
Because it'll be on NBC Peacock, it'll be on Amazon, it'll be on ESPN. These are all services to a certain degree that you have to pay for. And Adam Silver basically said Man, with the NBA all you do is get highlights all day. They're all over social media. You know, and if you're a kid or you're anybody, you don't got to pay for the highlights.
Like, that came out of his mouth. But it's factual. And so if you're measuring your reach, if you're selling and pitching to sponsors, if you're yelling and selling yourself to Amazon why you should get a crap ton of money, give us a few billion dollars over the next several years to broadcast our games, you have that data in front of you. I mean, how many people want to see a slam dunk? and just watch five slam dunks on Twitter.
as opposed to sitting down for two hours to watching a game. There probably are more people consuming the game on social media as opposed to sitting down and watching. you know, two, two and a half hours of basketball. And so there's value there. Can we say the same thing with the NFL?
Can I say the same thing about baseball? No? I don't think so.
I know so.
So It's tough going. I know I went all over the place and explaining a lot, but I think there is going to be a stoppage in baseball. Because ultimately the bubble has to burst. Yeah.
Yeah, I got you.
Well, thank you, Todd. I appreciate it. I appreciate you. Thank you, Todd, for calling from Maryland. Botcha, I just felt like I was uh I went back to school for a minute.
Yeah, that was like a full on college pr I wouldn't say college level lecture, but like Hey, it got the point across. Bacha, I speak in colleges, man. I've had my share. I've been to all of them, just about all of them, all over the country. Um I ain't saying nothing that's not a fact.
Do you disagree with anything I said? Do you object to anything? No, I agree. And that's the issue is the MOB. We all know The format is not good.
But the players have so much power in the MLB that there's going to be A pool. Where The players are not going to budge and they're going to sit out because they feel that when they first come up through the minor leagues. They're taking advantage.
So they don't come to the door right away. They are. Yes, they are.
So I think in their mind, they're okay with leaving. your first arbitration years. for the free agency with no cap.
so it evens out in the long run. If you can get there. If you can get there. Now you got to pay a guy for past performance knowing that he's going to suck. I mean, this is an extreme example because, okay, he didn't suck, but he wasn't the same player.
When Albert Pouholst came up, He was Babe Ruth, okay? All right, he was Beybroof. When he took that money from the angels, the next thing you know, he was just good. All right, he was very good. But he wasn't the same guy.
Ken Griffey, junior, a different circumstances. Ken Griffey Jr. was one of the greatest ever. With the Mariners, and we know he got paid. And then it was time for the last big contract.
He says, I'm going to Cincinnati. He wasn't the same dude. Like, there should be a system.
Well, you pay the guys earlier. And I get it, it's all about control. It's a great business model. For the team. But they should be able to even that out a little bit more from the players' association standpoint, as you just said.
And that's that's the issue. I think There's never going to be a time where the players and the owners are going to Sit down. and put their egos and everything aside. to agree on a new format because They have too much care. They don't want to change anything because the owners are making money.
The players eventually are going to get paid. It's just The the owners that aren't competitive and they just want to sit back. That's the issue.
So you can change the CBA and put a minimum, a maximum. Even still, I think owners are still going to try to take advantage of the new crap. Like, here's a better example. I gave you two older examples: Albert Putholst, Ken Griffey. Why did Aaron Judge have to get his big old contract two seasons ago?
Now the guy is what, entering into his thir his age thirty three season? He came up in, what, twenty seventeen, he got a taste of the big leagues. And now he's breaking records and all of this. He had to go out and show the Yankees that he was worth all this money? Like.
He's almo he's old. He's he's not old, but he's about to be thirty-three. Like what are we doing here? Like, and then you got the Braves. They gave Acunha like a discount contract.
They decided to lock him up early. It shouldn't be this way. And this is another reason. Why why baseball? Like they there's so much of it control in the financial system.
Kyler Murray had a choice. Do I want to go to the NFL? Or do I want to go ahead and play baseball?
Well, if I'm Column Murray, and I have an opportunity to be a star. I know I'm getting my money right away in the NFL. I got to go to Major League Baseball and I got to wait just to see if I'm going to get paid. Like what is It's some crap, man. God bless baseball.
God bless the Dodgers. They got the money to spend. Uh but It's all over the damn place. Baseball is all over. The Damn.
place. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. Regardless of how I feel or you feel, The Dodgers. They are now 3-0 here in the National League Championship Series.
The Dodgers are one victory away. From going back to the World Series to try to repeat something that we haven't seen since the Yankees 3PEDE. In the late 90s, all the way to the year 2000. The Dodgers beat the Brewers. Three, so one.
888-710-4ISN. I'm going to get to more of your calls on the other side of the break. I'm going to give you a score update on the Blue Jays and Mariners. I'll give you a score update on Thursday Night Football. I will get to more of your calls.

Well, damn, man. In Cincinnati, oh, thank you for the kind words. In Cincinnati, things are getting kind of wild here. The Pittsburgh Steelers still lead the Bengals 10-7 just a few minutes ago. A Jamar Chase, he was able to be on the receiving end of a touchdown.
From Joe Flaca.
Now Aaron Rodgers just threw a pass intended for DK Metcalf. Aaron Rodgers's pass was intercepted. And so instead of the Pittsburgh Steelers answering back, there's about four minutes. A left here in the first half. The Bengals now have the ball.
And they have an opportunity to tie the game or take the lead.
So things aren't as bad as you might have expected. It looks like we have a well, we do have a close one. us so far. Let's see if our Cincinnati can go ahead and uh take a lead or tie this game up. 888-710-4ISN is the number.
Also, I told you about the Dodgers. Dodgers go out. And they beat the Brewers 3-1. They now have a 3-0 series lead. of the Blue Jays, not quite the beating that they started with yesterday.
But the Blue Jays currently lead the Mariners two to one They happen to be in the third inning. Seattle leads this series 2-1. The Blue Jays are trying to go out here. And tie things up. Max Scherzer?
We know he's on the mound for the Blue Jays. He's already been out here for two innings. He has two walks, no strikeouts. and he's given up a run. And so we knew that things were going to be kind of treacherous for him out there.
to see what he was gonna do. Uh Naylor hit a home run off of Scherzer. We have Jimenez who went ahead and and and hit a two-run bomb. And now it is uh It's now three one Sorranso. as uh the bases are loaded.
And now Toronto's doing some damage.
So Toronto leads 3-1 now. Against Seattle. We'll keep you up to date as the evening continues on. I'll be hanging out with you. For about 30 more minutes, another half hour.
888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-48. 4ISN. Let's get some more of your calls. Let's go ahead and talk to Jeff.
He's from New Orleans. You're on the J.R. Sport Brief Show. What's up, Jeff? Hey, J.R., how are you doing there, buddy?
How's everything in the land of the dirty birds anyway? I'm fi I don't see no dirty birds. I'm good. How are you?
Okay, well, don't send them over to skies in New Orleans 'cause we're probably going to shoot them down at least one time this year.
Well, damn, you got pelicans. Don't worry about our falcons or our hawks. Ha ha. What's up? Oh, right.
Um I had two. I wanted to get your opinion on two quick things with Aaron Rodgers.
Okay. I'm. Kind of tuning in late, JR. If I'm asking you to repeat anything, let me know and I'll just hit the rewind button. But any anyhow Um I heard you talking to um another caller about Um Aaron Rodgers Yeah.
And I've only seen, I know they've played, what, six? This is their seventh games or so. I might have seen two or three games with him. And I happen to notice that he gets rid of the ball now very quickly. I mean, he'll let that ball go while he's on his drop back I don't see that man getting sacked very many times at that rate.
And maybe Maybe that's by design. I don't know. What do you think? Yeah, he's old. One of our guests, I can't remember who it was this week.
Maybe it was yesterday, two days ago. And they talked about how he drops back and he passes. He's old. He can't move the same way. I mean, he's still smart enough to be able to deliver the ball while he's still moving laterally behind the line of scrimmage, but he's not testing anything.
He's not testing fate. He's 41. He blew out his Achilles. He can still play, he's smart, like why go out there and test it, you know? And the only other thing I wanted to get your opinion on is I heard you talking about as well.
It was on the kind of his attitude and the fact that he's a lot quieter this year. And I've noticed that as well. I mean, he he was all over with the Pat Mac You know, with the podcast with Pat McInally, I think his name is. Pat McAfee, former puncer, yes. Mac could be, yeah.
And now I just don't I don't hear any rhetoric coming out of him at all. anymore. And I'm wondering if that was Yep, it's I'm pretty sure uh, don't you think they probably had a sit down before uh he even got on the Yeah, that's what we discussed. No, I don't think they did a sit-down before. I mean, if you recall, it took quite a while for him to.
We thought it was going to be the case. But it took a while for him to to to formally come to an agreement. You know, with the Packers, not the Packers, excuse me, with the Steelers. It took place right before training camp. I was going to go ahead and start.
Uh Of course they spoke to him. Of course they did. I mean, when Aaron Rodgers went to the New York Jets, I don't think this was something that they put in his face before. Because there's no reason why you want to put parameters around the guy while you're kind of negotiating for him to come in. You do that after the fact.
But when he went to the New York Jets, the Jets wanted him. They beg for him to show up. And so he was the boss. He was the boss from day one when he stepped into the organization. I mean, in regards to to being the head coach in the GM, He had everybody by the you-know-whats, and he behaved like it.
until everybody was fired, including himself. And that was an easy path to see. There was only one or two paths: one was a Super Bowl, and the other one was everybody was going to tank into the toilet. And it was always going to be more likely that the jets were going to tank and be in the toilet. And so it happened.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are not in that same space. You know, Mike Tomlin was not going to be tanked by this guy. He actually respects Mike Tomlin. They respect each other. And so, did they have a sit-down before?
No. But do I think when he was signed, they said, listen, bro, we don't want you to do this? I think you said, I got it. And I think it was as simple as that. We'll see what continues on.
I know as it stands right now, they're trying to get some points on the board before halftime. Uh because these Bengals just scored again. We both now have Jamar Chase and also T. Higgins. He just scored a touchdown.
The Bengals lead. A 14 to 10. Hey, Jeff, thank you for calling from the NL.
Okay. Well, thank you so much for your For your time and your insight. I appreciate you breaking that down for me and making it understandable. I hope you have a good evening. Easy, easy, easy.
Thank you, Jeff. You call anytime, okay?
Okay. All right, shout outs to Jeff for calling from New Orleans. Shoutouts to all my folks. In New Orleans on on WWL, man. I need to go down to New E I need to go to Louisiana.
Hey, botch, I'm going to drive after the show, okay? Just FY. Just straight to Louisiana? Yeah.
Six and a half, seven hours. Perception of geography is horrible. I thought it would be like four hours. Uh, no, it'll take me let's see. It takes me 90 minutes to get to Birmingham.
From Birmingham, take me another five, five and a half hours. Yeah, maybe about seven, seven-ish. Right after he now Overnight? Easy. Yeah, I'll be there.
People will still be partying when I get there. And they're an hour behind me in the central time zone. Oh yeah, the partying's not the question, it's just the seven hour street. That's like water. Yeah, you gotta go to uh was it Bucky's?
Bucky's? You want me to get some? What do you want from Bucky's? I'll get you a gift. What do you need?
No, I don't need anything. I'm just saying, you probably need like a couple. I don't know if you drink coffee, iced coffee. Um, iced coffee. I don't know.
I'm not really a coffee guy. Uh, espresso? Yes, no? I I guess that's coffee. A couple of them?
It is. Biletti, what is it? It falls under coffee, doesn't it? Yeah, it's definitely coffee. What do they put in there?
Crack to make it more. A little more potent, a little more potent, a little straighter, a little less of it.
Okay. Listen, I'm going to have the finest espresso from Bucky's, okay? That's good stuff. I'm a big espresso guy. It's good stuff.
You you are? Oh, yeah. Big coffee guy. I run on caffeine. Are you on it right now?
Oh, hell yeah. I wouldn't be able to function without it.
Well, how many shots are you taking? I don't get a chance to drink as much espresso as I like. That's a little bit more time-consuming and complicated to make. Not really complicated, but time-consuming.
So I'm just kind of more of just the straight black coffee. Nothing in it. Nah.
Well, you're like me. When I have coffee, I don't put nothing in it. Yeah, nah, nah, nah.
Now, maybe I may put a little cream, just a little bit, but I want the coffee black. Let's put it this way: if I'm putting sugar in that thing, I'm basically giving myself diabetes. That's how much coffee I'm taking in the day, so there's no reason to put anything else in. Dan, one of my friends, he w we went out and we were somewhere and we were making coffee or whatever. He said, Hey, can you make his hands a full?
And I said, Yeah, sure. And I said, he said, I said, how much sugar do you want to put in? And he just. He kept telling me five packets, right? And he looked at me.
I'm ripping each one open individually and I'm putting it in there. He goes, bro, we're going to be here forever if you're making me this coffee. And I go, what do you want me to do? You asked me for like five, six packets. He says, this is not how you do it.
Is I knew this guy is in a coffee addict. He picked up five or six packets. And he ripped them open simultaneously at one time. And I'm like, what type of crackhead trick is this? He just ripped it open and poured it in there.
Yeah, 20 years ago when I wasn't drinking black coffee and I had the sugar in there. Yeah, we could pull that off because caffeine's been a big staple for Belletti for a long time. Oh my God. You could open four or five sugar packets. Easy.
You see, Biletti, but this is not the flat ones, okay? You can stack together five packets, five flat packets. And just rip off the tops, right? Yeah, first you gotta shake them, make sure all the sugars at the bottom. Yep.
This is not what this, these were tubes. You can't stack up tubes. You can't do that. Tubes? You know, the tube, like the sugar that comes in a tube form, not the flat packet.
Like the pixie dust? Yes. Yes. I don't know if I've ever seen those for coffee. Maybe I haven't had sugar.
The sugar. Yeah, I know, but maybe I haven't had sugar in my coffee for so long. I don't remember the pixie ones. I know what you're saying, but I can't picture it to put it in coffee. It's like the candy.
You know, a little bit of candy, yeah. Yeah.
How can you rip open five and six of those houses? I don't know. That would have been because you don't have enough to leverage. There's no leverage there. He ripped them off, he ripped five of these off and I said, whoa.
Okay. All right, that's impressive. I also got fat fingers. I don't think I can pull that off.
Well, I was like, damn, bro, you really do be going through this coffee all day.
Well, when you got a caffeine problem. Mm. Yeah, you know how to make it happen. I guess. Yeah, there's a lot of things that you'll wind up doing that you don't want to do.
Oh, wow. Yeah, there's a lot of problems. You can be addicted to a lot of things. Biletty, I've heard every now and then there will people who will do something strange for a little bit of change.
Okay. It's not a good way to go. It's not what you want to do. It's rough. It's rough.
It's rough. Hey, speaking of rough. that things might be rough again the second consecutive night. for Seattle. We got all this baseball going on.
We got all this football going on. It's a great Thursday. A great sports Thursday in October in the United States of America. I'm proud to be an American, okay? It's the JR Sport Reef Show on the Infinity Sports Network.
We come back, get to your calls, talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. But right now, what's going on? Here he is with a news flash. Powered by caffeine, Marco Belletti. In 2013, two brutal murders left the city of Davis, California paralyzed in fear.

Okay, Toronto still leads Seattle. 3-1 is the fourth inning. Toronto Blue Jays trying to even this series up. Dodgers trying to go for the sweep. We just heard that from Marco Belletti.
Dodgers get a victory tonight.
Meanwhile we got Well, they're getting ready for halftime in Cincinnati. The Beng the Steelers 14-10. This is good. We got a good game. Aaron Rodgers has already thrown two interceptions here.
We just had a catch by DK Metcalf that was ruled not a catch. And so uh Bengals get the ball back. They're trying to put things to bed before they get to halftime.
Okay, at least calm things down, take the ball. out of Aaron Rodgers' hands. 888-710-4ISN. Let's hit the phones before we go to a few things that took place this day in sports history. We're being joined by E.J.
from Pittsburgh. EJ, you're on the JR Sport Brief Show. Go ahead. Hey. How are you going?
Thank you guys for taking my call. Sure, what's that? Um A few callers ago, you guys were talking about contracts, and you were talking about like you brought up Ken Grifty, and I remember. Um I think just last year. You found for that for the last nine, ten year mil for what, one hundred twenty mil?
And then A lot of that payment was deferred. And I thought it was interesting that he was still one of the highest paying spreads up until last year as last payment. Yeah, well, that's the thing. In baseball, see, in basketball, and I don't have the specifics right in front of me. But I do know there is I think when it comes to baseball, there are no limits when it comes down to what you can defer.
Like if I take a look at at basketball, In the NBA, there's a limit. Like, you cannot do that. That is almost. You know, salary cap circumvention when you start going, oh my God, we're going to defer this. Why is Shot Hay Otani?
You know, it ten, fifteen years from now, He's making $2 million a year now, and he's getting 68 over the life. Like, what are we doing? Right.
Sounds like what Alex Rodriguez was doing years ago for the Yankees, like you said, when the economic. The economics of baseball was Weren't that bad. It seemed pretty. And the Yankees had grossed. You message Ziombi, they had a ridiculous amount of guys.
Um Well 'Cause it makes it makes me think of Kawhi Leonard. He brought up the NBA with the money laundering or whatever. I I should probably I should probably not say that on national radio, but what are you gonna do? Yeah, well it I it it's it certainly looks like money under the table. And now that we're about a week out from the start of the season, I'm a little surprised.
And maybe the NBA will wait until right before the season starts. Uh to kind of dilute the news a little bit.
So let me rephrase that. We still have time to figure out what the suspension might be. or what the punishment might be. The NBA will probably hold out until we move into a new cycle. Obviously, they don't want to muddy up.
you know, the the start of the season. But they may want to try and bury it the best way possible. Who knows? Maybe we find out. the conclusion of their investigation tomorrow.
Hey, look, we know sports is big business. There's billions of dollars of flowing. And there's cash to be made for everybody. That's why these athletes are making. You know, 60, 70 million dollars, the money is there.
It has to go to somebody. It's just a matter of how it all gets. get split up. E.J., thank you for calling from Pittsburgh, man. Thank you guys, man.
God bless you guys. Have a good night. You as well. Shoutouts to EJ, calling from Steel City, one of my favorite places. Anyways, the end of the show.
It's time for us to talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. Back, back, back, back. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history.
See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything, and it was primitive and lousy, and we liked it. The JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. Oh, how about this Toronto now leads? 4-1 in Seattle.
Oh man, they're trying to even this series. Anyway, it's October 16th and October 16th, 1977. The Denver Broncos intercepted seven passes off of Ken Stabler, and they went out there and beat him 30 to 7. That's an ass whooping. Listen to this: To be a champion, you first must beat one.
And the Orange Crush had a game plan for the Oakland Raiders. Step one. Stop Oakland from running to the left. Step two. Put a little heat on the snake.
Even a quarterback of Ken Stabler's ability can't win a football game on the seat of his pants. Take away his ground game. Force him out of the pocket. And Stabler is just another quarterback. Denver picked off seven Ken Stabler passes, three alone by number 59 Joe Rizza.
More interceptions than Stabler usually throws in a month. I mean, God bless him. Maybe that's why they made him wait forever to get in our Hall of Fame. Poor guy wasn't even allowed to see it. October 16th, 1977, the same day, the Minnesota Vikings beat the Bears 16-10 in overtime, and they did it with a successful fake field goal in overtime.
Listen to this, they ran it in. Perfect distance for him, we'll see what happens. It's a fake. Kraus looking for someone to throw it to, fires, touch. No.
Two points, the game is over. What do you know about that? Paul Kraus And let's hit the fast forward button, October 16th, 1988, or Hirschizer. He became the first player to pitch a shutout. In playoff in World Series, well, not the playoffs, but in World Series history, okay?
The Dodgers won the game. Six to nothing. He struck out eight guys. They won the series in five games. Nor Hershiser, he was named.
MVP. Take a listen to this. Shut out. One ball, two strikes. Got him.
I don't know what it is on the Chinese calendar. but it's the year the Herschel. The year of the bulldog. It certainly is. Yeah, that's that series where they beat the A's.
We had Kirk Gibson in a home run. That was a. That was a good one. October 16, 2004. Lionel Messi.
Yeah, now he's hanging out in Miami and shopping at Publix. He was 17 years old. He made his league debut for Barcelona It's a 1-0 win against Español. Welcome to La Liga. Even I didn't realize the power, the influence, the awareness that Leo has around the world.
I see pink Messi jerseys wherever I go. We in America have so many great sports stars. You know, they're basketball stars and hockey stars and baseball stars, but there's one Messi. If you were going to ask everybody, maybe not Cristiano Ronaldo, but you ask every coach, every player in the world who the best player ever to play the game is, it's Messi. And we're living with him.
Yeah, and I think he signed a contract extension. He ain't going anywhere. I think you get what, like one more year, two more years of Messi? Possibly. To be honest, after he played that kind of first year, I was like, all right, whatever.
We see Messi here. He's on vacation before he retires. He decided to stop here in Miami instead of Saudi Arabia. What are you gonna do? October 16th.
In 2017, Rick Patino, he got... The boots. We know about that FBI investigation. It was bribery and fraud and. It was all types of money flowing all over the place.
He was apparently Louisville was doing the NIL before the NIL was legal. And we got a lot of people getting in trouble, paying recruits and Well, listen to this. This is a Lex 18. Talking about Rick Pacino getting a boot. Rick Petino has officially been fired from his position as Wouville's head basketball coach.
The Uoval board met and voted unanimously to remove the head coach from unpaid leave and terminate his employment. Michael Burke has been following this story all day, and he's here with the LAX18 Big Story at 6. Kevin, it seemed like a mere formality at this point, but Fettino and his lawyer Steve Pence took one shot at reinstatement in front of the U of L board this morning. Pence presented evidence that his client claims to not have known of the activity going on between Apparel Giant and Didas and their plan to funnel money to recruit Brian Bowen. And because of that, Pence argued that any termination at this time would come without cause.
an action which would put the university in material breach of contract. Board members, however, felt enough evidence existed to move forward with a termination for cause action. Look, Ray Petino said, I ain't no.
Well, you're the boss. See, you're the boss. He's supposed to know what's going on.
So you're fired. Can't have your underlings. You had them here. Come on now. No, we don't.
Anyway, Rick Petino, he went to Greece, and then he coached Iona, and now he's back at St. John's. And he's just torturing his recruits, yelling at them, and then apologizing. Good for them. Anyway.
That's a few things that took place this day in sports history. If we have to think about present time, right now the Blue Jays added another run. It's the fourth inning. The Blue Jays lead the Mariners 5-1 in Seattle. They're looking to tie up their series.
Meanwhile, it is halftime in Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Bengals lead the Pittsburgh Steelers 17-10.
Okay, both Jamar Chase and T. Higgins, they got themselves.
Some touchdowns. Also, we know about this. This took place already. What else is new? The Dodgers win again.
They beat the Brewers 3-1. They're looking for a sweep. Shohei Otani apparently is going to be on the mound. The next game to try to close things out and send the Dodgers to another World Series. Thank you so much to Luke Easterling for joining us, talking some NFL from Athwan Sports.
