You please give me Godwin and Evans. I think I'd be okay too. 74 touchdowns, the most in the NFL. eight thousand nine hundred and twenty six yards, second in the NFL. And he's had a record of 21 and 15.
You think back to his time with the Browns, man, they didn't want this man throwing the ball. They said, hey, Baker, here, we're just going to run it. Get a ball of chubby, okay? I remember Odell Beckham Jr. He's just like, man, I got to get out of here.
I got to get away from Baker Mayfield. His dad was trying to force a trade because Baker sucked so much. And then the Browns shot themselves in the foot. They're like, oh, yeah, okay.
Well, we want Deshaun Watson, and the next thing you know, boom. Beggar Mayfield is out the door. Baker Mayfield has to make his bones with the Panthers, has to do it with the Rams. Ends up in Tampa Bay And it's been full steam ahead. They've been one of the fun teams to watch.
You know when the bucks are playin'. They're gonna throw the ball. I don't care if you got Bucky Irving back there, they're still going to throw the ball. Damn it, they're going to throw the ball. It's a bucky.

Now, please, I'm not telling you that these Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just going to the Super Bowl and that they're just going to go out there. and when at all. But I think Baker Mayfield deserves some credit. For a guy who was jettisoned from the Browns of all teams, they drafted him number one overall. Here we are all these years later.
The Browns are trying to figure out their quarterback situation. And Baker Mayfield is out here still showing life. Come on now. Baker Mayfield talked about winning these games In close fashion. Yeah, they blew some chances, almost blew the game, but Baker helped them win.
Similar to what I told you guys last week in these two-minute close games, we were not on the right side of things for the past couple of years, and uh it's good to see that. We haven't even played close to our best ball in all three phases, and we're still finding ways to win on the road, and that's really important. No, that is good. You want to talk about late game stuff? Most people would look at Todd Bowles.
Hey, Todd, why are you standing there looking like you had prune juice? Why do you look so miserable? Todd Bowles is just like, yeah, Baker's good at the end of games. I don't know about me, but Baker's good. That was a heck of a job of situational football.
Really Baker on a fourth and ten using his legs to get the first down that kind of catapulted everything from there. Everything we practiced, everything we've talked about, and everything we've done about finishing a ball game, they did a heck of a job finishing. No, that's nice. Hey, Botcha, that's the most complete sentence that Todd Bowles has put together in a long time. What?
I'd say a lot of his sentences are complete. They're just very short. Ah yeah. He just doesn't want to reveal too much. But a lot a lot of times he sounds like he's grumbling.

Well, there's not a lot to be happy about. If you're constantly talking about, hey, when's your injured player going to be back? Why did you lose this game? I'd be mad too. Unless for the bumass the bumass teams do that.

The Jets cannot keep up offensively with this team. They cannot. The Buccaneers are going to whoop. That ass, okay. And I know it took It took a goal-lined run yesterday for the Buccaneers to win.
They're not going to have to worry about that against the Jets. I don't care if Justin Fields is there or not. This is probably going to be another annihilation. I don't know if they're going to do what the Buffalo Bills just did to the Jets. But this is gonna get ugly.
This is what Baker had to say about running the ball at the goal line to win. No, I love the play call. I love the mentality, getting down there on the two-yard line, bringing big personnel in, seeing if we can punch the run in. If not, call a timeout. I'll probably do it again.
Yeah, look at that. Good for him. Yeah, the Buccaneers are going to have an opportunity to go a 3-0. to start the season. And let me tell you this.
These buccaneers here in this AFC South Man, we got the Saints in this division. Or NFC South, excuse me. We got the Saints. We got the Panthers here. And then we got the Falcons.
Yeah, God bless them. They figured they found a kicker who can actually kick the other day, a Romo. But the Buccaneers are going to win this and go right to the postseason. This season might be too easy. For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
They're 2-0. They're getting ready to take on the New York Jets. and Baker Mayfield. By the end of this season, Baker Mayfield might be an MVP Conversation. I'm just saying.
I'm just saying, you think about some of these games that they got to play, especially in their division, oh, Bacon Mayfield's going to have a chance to put up some big stats. in some big numbers. Congratulations to them. Tampa Bay going right back to the postseason.

Now, I don't know about this team. This team is owing to We just talked about some of these 0-2 teams. It's not good. happens to be the Houston Texans. They look They don't got the horses right now.
You got all these guys that are are hurt, Joe Mixon is out all of a sudden right before the year with a busted up leg and Laramie Tunsil, they sent him to Washington. You got Christian Kirkin and Berrios. They're dealing with hamstring injuries. I I can't even get started on Tank Dell. This guy's knee got blown to smithereens last year.
Don't expect to see him this season. And I know we just talked about a bunch of these 0-2 teams.
Well, they're in they're in a lot of pain, okay? Because only Eight point six percent. of 0-2 teams. have started that way and made the playoffs. Bury it.
Less than nine percent.
Okay, I don't know if we can put the Texans in that category. I certainly wouldn't. They cannot score to save their lives. Right now, it was all good. during CJ Stroud's rookie season.
Right now they don't got enough. I mean, Nick Chubb is their starting running back. I'm I'm happy for him. You got Nico Collins out there, good, but he's used to playing opposite tank Dell. Had an amazing catch last night.
Nico did for a touchdown. They just don't have enough. I'm not going to even just say this is a down year for the Texans. This is a lost year. due to all of their injuries.
It's what CJ Stroud had to say about starting O two. Can make a bunch of excuses, but we're just not getting it done.
So at the end of the day, that's all that matters. And, you know. We're moving the ball pretty well, just gotta put seven on the on the board and Uh that's that's you know the big difference right now. I ain't I had enough of all of that. Why is the offense sucked?
Can you explain that? Can you say you don't have the weapons? Go ahead. Can make a bunch of excuses, but we're just not getting it done.
So at the end of the day, that's all that matters. Yeah.

At the end of the day, we got to stay together and just mesh well and be honest, have hard conversations. But I think right now we need more confidence. as a as a offense at least, um just Confident playing better together. I think that that's a big thing. We're all we haven't played together, a lot of us.
So the more confidence that we build, I think the better that we'll be off. People are gonna say you suck because you uh You do. That's just the reality. Ain't nobody telling no lies. Shoutouts to all my people in Houston I love Houston.

So it starts with me. I got to coach better. We got to play better, we got to execute better. You got to go win games. You're not just going to be given games, right?

For the Houston Saxons. Do you think the Indianapolis Colts are like one of the best teams in the NFL at 2-0? Do you think the Jacksonville Jaguars, they're currently one and one?
Okay, they They couldn't save their asses. even this past Sunday, losing to the Bengals, losing to Browning, he threw three interceptions and they still lost. And I know sure as how, There's nobody looking at the Tennessee Titans expecting them to do anything. That could or not could be. The AFC South.
is the saving grace. for the Houston Saxons. That's the only reason why they still got a shot in life. Their division sucks. And yeah, CJ Stroud, so does the offense right now.
I hate to fill you in on it.

You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It's the JR Sport Brief show on the Infinity Sports Network. Oh yeah, cold as ice Baker Mayfield he had ice in his veins last night. Got a lead, missed some opportunities, came back, lost a lead, ultimately still won the game. You don't think the Browns would love to have Bacon Mayfield back?
I know who does love having him. The fans in Tampa Bay since he's arrived. First in touchdowns. The team is on fire right now, starting the season at 2-0. To talk about these Buccaneers and what we've seen, what we can expect the rest of the way.
Joining us right now is someone who covers these Buccaneers for Fox Sports. His name is Greg Allman. Greg, how are you, man? Hey doing well, thanks for having me on tonight. Appreciate you joining us.
We've seen the Baker Mayfield career arc and story. And we see what has preceded him and what took place with the Browns and what Tampa Bay has now. Is this not a perfect marriage even in these two years in change? That seems like it. I mean, it's not an easy thing to take a franchise over from Tom Brady.
You know, you need somebody with a. Ridiculous amount of confidence, and Baker's never lacked for confidence.
So, yeah, I mean, he's a different player than Brady, a different kind of leader. But he's definitely made this team his own and, you know, kind of become the face of this team and somebody they rally around, as you saw last night. When you think about the weapons, it seems like he's emerged into a, like I said, a perfect situation. Mike Evans is one of the most consistent, reliable wide receivers that we've ever seen. Even with Chris Godwin currently down, we've seen Meka Abuka have a tremendous start.
That's his NFL career. How has this offensive system, and even someone like Todd Bowles, who is just easily criticized widely around the league? How has his system been a boon to Baker Mayfield and his skill set? In Cleveland, they didn't even want him to photo ball, they wanted him to hand it off. Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, I think they tried to play to his strengths. You know, this is something where, I mean, he's on his, he's done this his whole career, but he's on his third OC in three seasons here.
So, I mean, I think with each one, I think there's been. A growing need to have somebody who understands Baker, who can play to his strengths and build an offense around it. And then, again, obviously, you think about 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns last year. I mean, it's basically the best non-Brady quarterback season in Bucks' history. And off to a good start with five touchdowns, no turnovers in the first two games so far.
So I think they've tried to find systems that. know, suit his strengths and and limit his his Big spot. Greg Armin is joining us, covers all things NFL for Fox Sports down in Tampa, Florida. When you think about some of the injuries on this team, I mentioned Chris Godwin. We know Werves has been busted up.
Is there any update on when we might be able to see those guys at full strength on the field? Yeah, I think you know to talk to works. I mean they both returned to practice last week, which is a big step. Um, but again, I mean, they're coming off some, you know, major surgeries.
So, uh, you know, Wurfs had talked about, you know, the main talk with Wurfs has been week five. Um Which is in Seattle. I think if things went well, you could see him a week earlier. They get the Eagles in week four. Obviously, that's a huge game.
Um You know, they've had success against Philip in the past. You want to be as close to full strength as you can.
So I feel like that would kind of be the best scenario for worse, probably week four. Godwin's probably a little farther back. All they've really said is the goal is October.
So that could be week five. That could be week eight. You know, he's back in practice. He's certainly starting to push himself, but he's, you know, practicing for the first time in 11 months.
So the physical ramp up to where he feels comfortable being out there and able to be Chris Godwin on the field could still be a couple of weeks away for him. Greg, we know the next game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is going to be against the New York Jets. That could be. a bloodbath. You mentioned the the Philadelphia Eagles.
And we got Detroit. When you think about the schedule and the fact that they they are playing in the NFC South. Is the rest of this season not a? I don't want to say a cakewalk, but is it not a foregone conclusion barring major injuries that they're going to win this division? Yeah, I mean, they're up two.
They're up two games now, basically, because they have a tiebreaker with Atlanta two weeks into the season. I don't think Carolina or New Orleans have shown much to put fear in them. Um, you know, Atlanta came out and played really well in week two.
So, I mean, they're In theory, all Atlanta has to do is, you know. beat the Bucks in Tampa when they face them and they're halfway to getting back on top. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion, but I think they're the team to beat. I wish the I was the case going into the season. For them to pull out a close win to Atlanta in week one solidifies that.
So yeah, this is a team that, you know, that their success is going to be. Really determined in January, you know, in terms of what they can do beyond a division title. Can they win multiple playoff games? Can they make a deep playoff push? That's something they really haven't been able to do since the Super Bowl, since 2020.
So that's where their goals start.
So when you think about getting us between September here and January, what is the biggest challenge for these Buccaneers? You know, I mean, I think seeding in the NFC is going to be big. You know, a year ago, they beat Detroit, they beat Philadelphia, they beat the best teams in the NFC. They're going to get both of them again. Here in the next, I don't know what it is, next couple of weeks, it's going to happen quick.
So for them, it's a matter of, okay, what can you do to help yourself in playoff seating? Can you be the top seed in the NFC? Can you be the number two seed where you get a second playoff game at home? That's a big advantage. They lost their playoff opener at home against Washington last year.
So. That's the kind of thing you should focus on is taking care of business in the division. helping yourself in terms of trying to get a better seed. They won the Super Bowl as a five seed.
So obviously they've shown you can do it when you don't have that advantage. But I think everything you can do to make the path easier in the postseason is a smart thing to focus on right now. Greg Allman is joining us on the JR Sport Brief Show Coast to Coast, covers the NFL for Fox Sports down in Tampa, Florida. What do you think is the most likely outcome with this team? Because people look at the Bucs and they go, oh, they're good.
Their offense is electric, their defense is. is okay, but they people don't look at them in that upper echelon. Obviously they're not with the Eagles. What do you think is the most likeliest outcome for this team this season? Yeah, I mean I think the biggest question is just whether we'll see them fully healthy, you know, whether Get Wurfs back.
Their right tackle, Luke Gedeck, is out for a bit now. They just lost Kalija Cancia, starting D lineman for the season.
So if they get Godwin back and Jalen McMillan back and Wurfs back, their ceiling's pretty high. I mean, if they're winning these games without those people.
So It's just going to be a matter of when they run into Green Bay in the playoffs, when they run into Detroit or Philadelphia in the playoffs. Can they pull it out? Can they win a close game? like they have the last two weeks. I don't think they're going to be routing anybody in the playoffs, but I think there'll be a team that should be confident going into those kind of games.
Um, you know, I think Philadelphia will be the prohibitive favorite of the NFC until somebody beats them. But I think the Bucks have put themselves in the conversation with Green Bay. uh in that next tier um of of the best challengers to the to the Eagles on the NFC side of things. Oh, Greg, we never hear about Todd Bowles from a national perspective, certainly. It's just, he just exists.
You know, when things are not good, people then point at him. When things are good, he doesn't exist. Why is that the case? I feel like it's unique to Todd and his standing amongst NFL head coaches. Why do you think that is?
No, I mean, I think he, you know, I don't think he has as outward a personality as Bruce Airy and Tad. I think he's kind of low-key on the sidelines. And I think sometimes that People want to see more emotion from their head coach. I think Todd has emotion in the locker room or when he needs to behind closed doors. He's just not a guy that's going to get up in players' faces during a game.
But in terms of production, in terms of results, They've won the division every time he's been head coach. They've won more games each year that he's been head coach.
So I think there's been progress. I think he's shown a great ability to find. unproven offensive coaches and not only have success with them, but set them up to be head coaches. Dave Cannals in Carolina. You see Liam Cohen in Jacksonville now.
Um And it looks like Josh Bazard, I mean, the guy that they picked to promote and be the guy in this year's USC seems like a good pick as well.
So I think he's helped himself. I think, you know, I think there was a. I thought early on that the success they had was taking over Bruce Arian's teams, having Tom Brady as your quarterback. But they've been saddled with a lot of financial cap hardships. in the last three years that they're just getting out of.
And I think they've been able to weather that. while sustaining a great amount of success that a lot of people didn't expect from them.
Well, you talk about the success coming off of Tom Brady, who kind of parachuted in, won a championship. How much what is the fan sentiment? Is there a little bit more patience with this group and given what has taken place since? I mean, y you're coming off of Tom Brady, even though he wasn't there for a long time. Are the fans kind of like okay with what's going on and happy about it?
Yeah, I mean, if anything, they've set the bar. They've cut and got it spoiled. I mean, this is a team that had gone whatever, 12 years in a row without a postseason birth before 2020. And now they've been in the playoffs five years in a row. They've won the division four years in a row.
This is a franchise that has never won back-to-back division titles in 45 years before that. I I do think he's kind of reset the bar in terms of what fan expectations are. Um, you know, you think about last year when they're at eight or nine wins with a couple weeks left, there's people that are wanting Todd Bowles' job. You know, and again, there's a lot of years where they would have really done a lot of things to get to nine wins as a Bucs team.
So I do think they've set the bar higher. I think that's probably the best thing Brady's done here in Tampa is set the standard where people expect a playoff team, expect success in January for a franchise that really hadn't had a huge amount of success. Obviously, they won a Super Bowl before he was here, but not the kind of sustained success they've enjoyed the last five years now. Yeah, I think they're going to be on their way to more as we go through the course of the season. Let's see what they can do.

Let's see if the Buccaneers. got a little bit more of that. And now the Raiders are hoping that all this positive Tom Brady ism juice kind of rubs off on their organization. You know, all these years That Al Davis's kid, Mark. has run around and made these these poor decisions.
Bringing in Tom Brady as a minority owner. is one of the smartest things he could ever done. Because it allows you, mister Bull Haircut, to move the hell up on out the way. and actually allow Tom Brady to utilize his expertise So go out there and uh You don't impart his wisdom on the organization. Not the worst thing.
in the world. And we know there was a lot of uh A lot of scrutiny about this. Tom Brady had already accepted $375 million from Fox. to be a broadcaster. And so now we got the most accomplished quarterback of all time.
Who's broadcasting on Fox? I see most people still think he sucks. I haven't listened. And that he's also a a minority owner in the Raiders? There were so many parameters as to what he could do and who he could talk with and where he could.
Last year Tom Brady couldn't be a part of production meetings.
Well, how the hell is a guy going to do his job just because he's all knowing, Tom Brady?
Now this year he can talk to opposing teams, but he has to do it from His hotel room or wherever the hell he's at, he has to do it remotely. Because, yeah, why, if you're getting ready to take on the Raiders, At some point in the season, why the hell do you want to talk to Tom Brady? Why he's broadcasting your game.
So he could steal state secrets. And so last night As Geno Smith was in the process of throwing three interceptions. against the Chargers. We got a report. About Tom Brady.
who was sitting up with the coaches, sitting right behind Chip Kelly. We got an interesting report from ESPN, and I can't say it's shocking, but listen to this. We've got a special member of the Raiders' ownership group here today, and that's Tom Brady, who is in the house and is with the coaches' box tonight. I was wondering how much Brady really had an involvement with this team. We hear so much about Brady as the owner.
Chip Kelly told us that he talks to Brady. Two to three times a week, they go through film, they go through the game plan, and Brady is a luxury for the coaches. Who else has an owner who's actually been there and done that? 5% stake. That's an amazing sight right there.
Now, Chipkess uses them as a resource every single week. Why wouldn't you? There's Brady top row. Not many games he's able to attend because of his Sunday duties on Fox. Think about the advantage.
Chip Kelly's saying two to three times a week, I could call Tom Brady, hey. What do I do in double A get pressure versus this defensive corner? Patrick Graham, the defensive coordinator. Of the Raiders talked about in the first preseason game, they struggled to tackle Brady Cinematex. figure it out fast so It seems he's very involved.
Uh yeah. Like why why is this why is this such a a massive shock to everybody? Why? Because it was an ESPN report last night where the guy decided to give examples. And he gave examples.
He doesn't know exactly, but he had no bleep. And Tom Brady has influence in the organization. Like, like, no bleep. We all know this already. Tom Brady is giving advice.
What a shock, what a surprise. Why are people so up in arms? Like if people didn't want this Then they shouldn't allow Tom Brady to do both. You're either an owner or a broadcaster, but you know what? It benefits everybody for him to be a part of this.
Because Tom Brady being involved in the NFL, not just as a broadcaster, but an owner. Helps out everybody. I mean, damn it, before the game even got started yesterday. We got that silly announcement from Tom Brady. He's like, hey, I'm coming out of retirement to play flag football for Saudi Arabian Finance League.
Do you remember this? I've always admired the power of flag football, the fastest growing sport in the world. and how it connects fans of all ages. and I want to help continue the global movement and momentum that our game is having.

Of course he's sitting there with Chip Kelly. Do I think that Tom Brady is feeding him data while he's sitting around on Fox on the airwaves?
No. Do I think he's stealing state secrets? No. But you don't think that he has an insight that he can share? Of course he does.
Like everybody's complicit. They ain't no big deal. With Tom Brady. having a minority stake in the Raiders, And then also being a Fox broadcaster. We have known this for the better part now.
of two years And so now all of a sudden everybody wants to get up in arms? Get out of here. In and after the game. Pete Carroll was asked about this report. And what the hell does Pete Carroll know?
He's actually on the sidelines coaching the game. This was brought up to him.
Now, how much influence does Brady have? Is Brady the real offensive coordinator? Is he cracking a whip on Chip Kelly's back? There's so many questions here. This is what Pete Carroll had to say.
That's not accurate. We have conversations. I talk to Tom, Chip talks to Tom regularly. I mean, we have a tremendous asset. And so, you know, and we all get along well, and we respect each other.
And so we're just. talk about life and football and whatever it comes. And he has great insight.
So we're lucky to have him as an owner. Yeah, wh what the hell is so much different than what the report said? Like he's saying, No, well, that's inaccurate. What, what, that's Tom Brady's calling plays? That Tom Brady is the mastermind.
He might as well be. Come on. If I'm a Raiders fan, I'm like, who cares? Like Lemiel, if Tom Brady is in here, let him do some things. Hopefully Tom Brady could find us our next quarterback who's going to be the long-term option because we know Geno Smith.
is not that guy. They basically brought him in to babysit. We also know that Pete Cowell, long-term, is not that guy. Hopefully, Pete Cowell and Ginos.
Well, at least Pete Cowell is babysitting the situation. trying to establish a culture. Until they can find some long-term options. But We had some people who were not happy about this. I mean, I saw this clip online earlier today.
Mike Greenberg, Dominique Foxworth, they want ESPN and They were talking about Tom Brady in the broadcast booth.
Well, not the broadcast booth, the coach's box. Listen. This coming week, Tom Brady is scheduled to do the game between the Cowboys and the Bears. Right. The following week, the Bears play the Raiders.
That's why people, I think, are making a big deal of it. The thing is, you do not want the perception, the opportunity for any impropriety. And if you are going to take this risk, I would think that you would take this risk because the benefit was so great. In that case, it doesn't seem to like line up necessarily that he's either such a great owner that he can't walk away from that, or such a great broadcaster that he has to also be an owner, or they just let him show up and talk and do the games. It just, I would be upset or uncomfortable if I were a player.
The NFL responded. It said nobody's making Tom Brady talk to anybody. Like we put forth parameters. If Tom Brady is in a production meeting, You determine what you want to say to this guy. You don't got to say nothing.
Tom Brady is watching these games just like me and you. In a higher level, of course, because he's Tom Brady. I don't think Tom Brady is sending in recording devices. It's not Connor stallions. And not deflate gate.
He's not deflating footballs. He's not spygating people. He's not throwing in cameras. And so until I find out some information. That Tom Brady is paying, I don't know, production assistance to scour information from him.
I'm I'm I'm not worried about it. Everybody can be upset, and everybody could be mad. the time to have been pissed off. was before He got approved an ownership stay. Because Tom Brady is money.
He's getting his $375 million. to sit down on Fox and be boring. Good for him. Tom Brady Got his 5% stake that doesn't do anything but appreciate. with the Las Vegas Raiders still allowing him to be close to the strategic elements and part of a football team.
Good for him. And now Tom Brady, I guess I don't know if this is good for him. And Tom Brady is just like, yeah, yeah, hell, why not? I'll. I'll help facilitate a A football league in Saudi Arabia with NFL players, and damn it, I'll even come out of retirement.
And so if you want to be mad at anybody, When it comes down to Tom Brady and How many? pots and pans and cookie jaws he has his hands in. Be mad at the owners who approved it. Be mad at the NFL. Don't be mad now.
