You could be getting us on your local affiliate.

However, you choose to be consuming our program. It is always a pleasure to be with you. And it is a pleasure to be in for the great JR Sport Brief. And it is a pleasure to be alongside one of the great producers we have in the industry in Ryan Botcher. And I'm saying that in a very complimentary way, Ryan Botcher, because I'm kind of kissing your butt a little bit here because I have a proposition for you.

You ready? Is it a good one? But it's up to you what you want to do with it.

Okay? It's up to you.

Now, you do a lot. Screening calls, on air contributor. playing cuts, making sure we're in and out of the breaks. You wear a lot of hats in that room. I'm going to ask you to wear.

I'm going to ask you. I'm going to wear a hat right now.

Well, if we get, I mean, metaphorically, of course. I'm going to challenge you to do something. It is an option. You do not have to do it. But it is an option.

Okay. I saw Denzil Washington on ESPN for the first time today. The Denzel? Yeah, I've never seen him on ESPN before. I've seen him on TNT when he's gone on with the Inside the NBA guys.

I've never seen him on ESPN.

Now Credit to Stephen A. That is what happens when you have Stephen A on first take. He gets those kind of names. Yeah. I'm going to challenge you in the next two hours.

To get Denzel Washington. Or spikely On the program. for five minutes. For five minutes. For five minutes, that's all I'm asking for.

Tell them we are on 300 plus markets across North America. We have access to millions of people. Um It is an option, it is not an ask. I want to make that abundantly clear. I should have brought this to your attention.

Well, before the show, I will admit that wholeheartedly. I'm just seeing Denzel trending now. And so I'm like, why is Den, and you know, you always get, you always get a little nervous when you, you always get a little nervous when someone's trending, right? And so I go, okay, why is he trending? Because he did a great appearance on First Take.

And they're obviously promoting their new movie, Denzel and Spike, you know, called Highest to Lowest, which is in Theaters Friday. See, I even gave him a little bit of plug, and I didn't even have to there. Would you be up for the challenge? Or is this one of those things you just say, you know what, let's just shelf this for another time? If I had four hours, I don't know.

Maybe I could do something with that. But you know, it's Spike Lee, he's got to get him on speed dial. You cut a must be though? No, not at all. Why not?

You're a big-time executive producer.

Now you're a full-time executive producer. You don't have Spike Lee's number. If Spike Lee knew who I was, he, I don't even know if you'd remember my name. Man, you gotta give yourself more credit than that, brother. I gotta find.

Okay, I'm gonna actually start looking.

Okay, if I can find a contact, I don't know if I can actually get that. Here's, you know, this would be the challenge, you know, this would be the cool thing for your career. you can say, you know, I had a short-sighted host. that in the middle of the show asked me to book Spike Lee. In the middle of the show, we had two hours to go.

But you know what? I'm twenty four year old Phenom Ryan Botcher. I was able to do something that no other person could do in my shoes, which is book. an Academy Award nominated Director Spike Lee. and he was able to come on a sports show.

And talk about his movie for five minutes, I will never forget it. Would you be up for that challenge? Or is this something? that will table for another time. This i if I had this seems like something I need like a little bit To get to just a little bit, just because I'm doing the research now, and just even look at his.

His committee, I'd say. He's got a committee? Not a committee. It's just more of a. You know, his website, and then you look at his members, and then to reach out, it's going to take a little bit.

Okay. Especially because two hours. Brings it down to like it's eight o'clock. I know Eastern. I know these people are probably sleeping or at his movie reveal.

Yeah, because you know, everyone goes to bed at eight o'clock. Hey, they're busy people. They sleep at eight. And then you wake up at four. Oh, the Mark Wahlbrook schedule.

Yeah. Okay. That makes sense.

Well, listen, if I was Mark, you know, if I was Mark Wahlbrook, maybe he would come on. Number to get award: 888-710-4ISN, 888-710-4476. We will get into college football. Certainly, starters named if you are the University of Alabama. Still a debate as to who that starter will be for Ohio State.

We'll get into that this hour. We do have people that have been waiting patiently on hold that want to answer this particular question because. It is very fascinating to me that in baseball, we are having an historic season for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons is, as long as they remain healthy, Aaron Judge. Genio Suarez, Kyle Schwarber, you talk about Shohei Otani, and of course, the league-leading home run hitter, Kyle Raleigh, are all on pace for more than 50 home runs.

Raleigh is on pace for more than 60. It will be the first time in MLB history that we have had not one, not two, not three, not four, five guys go for 50 home runs in a single season. And what's crazy to me is this was such an aberration. It was so infrequent. In the 70s and 80s, that just once a player from 1966 to 1989 had a 50-home run season.

Benny in Baltimore. Who do you think that player was?

Well, actually, I think his season was nineteen ninety six, so I guess I'm wrong. But my player is Brady Anderson because he hit fifty home runs, and it was a total anomaly. He had never hit anything like that before or after. Yeah, that's a good you know, it reminds me of like Andrew Jones when he had that 50 home run season or Adrian Beltray. Remember that?

Yes, sure, for sure.

Now, Brady, to your point, Brady Anderson's season. was so Insane. The 50 home runs he had in 1996, because to your point, he never had another season. where he even hit twenty five home runs. No.

That's a great point. But, Benny, the answer is not, obviously, Brady Anderson. Do you know who that guy is? From now on, no, I do not.

Okay. I like the question and I like your show. Thank you, Benny. I appreciate the kind words.

Well, you have a good rest of your evening and you stay tuned because I have a feeling someone's going to get the correct answer, okay? All righty. Thanks a whole bunch. Thanks, Benny. Appreciate it, man.

Number to get aboard: 888-710-4ISN, 888-710-4476.

So I'm seeing a few people tweeting me right now. who that answer is. As to who is the one guy from 1966 to 1989, To have a 50-plus home run season.

Now, Botcher, you had asked if this person had sideburns, and I told you, no, they do not, because the last time I remember watching a clip of him, it was on Reds.com and it was on a couple of years ago, and he did not have sideburns.

So I was correct in my answer. Did he have sideburns in his playing days? The answer is yes.

Okay, I see what you're saying where you're like, okay, I saw him a couple of years ago. He did not have crazy sideburns. When he joined, he was on high heat with Chris Russo a few years back. He didn't have sideburns then either.

Well, that's a few years ago, but when we're talking back the 70s, he had some crazy sideburns. Did you know who this player was before you Googled it?

Well, I didn't Google it.

Someone called. Oh, okay. We got someone that knows the answer? Yes.

Okay, let me see if they know the correct answer, so we'll get to them. But have- do you know who this player is? I knew who they were, yes. See, that's really impressive to me. Cause I'm going to be totally honest with you.

I vaguely know him. Like, it's one of those names that, like, I know he played. And I know he was a part of the championship team, but I didn't realize that was the guy that hit 52 home runs. I never knew he had a 50-home run season. That's hard to know, but he was also a Met.

Okay. So that's another hint.

Okay. Gotcha.

So he he's in our history.

So if you look back and see like the The lineage of Mets legends that were not good with the Mets. Right. You could bring his name. Because when I think of the big red team, And that, you know, what they did in 75 and 76, I don't think of this guy. I just don't.

The guys I think of are Perez and Bench and Griffey and Morgan and Rose. Those are the five guys that I think. And obviously, Sparky Anderson is the manager, but. I don't associate him Um with with that particular team because I his best year came after the fact. You know, so that's what That's why I just don't associate him with those big Reds teams.

And to his you know, to the credit him, a National League MVP, three times an RBI leader, and he was part of the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame. And as I'm looking at his numbers right now in front of me, he actually had better numbers than I realized. He was actually a really good baseball player. Yeah, yeah. And you'll also know him because of MLB the show.

Like, they always do the uh, yeah, like throwback cards. That's fair.

So they'll throw in this guy every now and then. That's fair.

Well, do we have someone that knows the answer to this?

So, John in Knoxville. We have five guys potentially who are going to hit 50-plus home runs this season, which makes it even more easy. On the mound, and they need to uh make baseball fields. larger like they used to be when I was a kid, we had a triple-A field four hundred and twenty eight feet. Dead center field, there were eight guys that ever hit it over that wall.

Okay. Carlos Delgado was the last guy to do it. Oh, that's a throwback name.

Now that's a guy that had more than 400 home runs and was very close to 500. I remember Carlos back in his Bluetooth days. And then I know Ryan Bots remembers him from the Mets. He was a catcher when he came up at Syracuse. Wow.

And I remember waiting for his autograph. I was about 15. And uh, he was in there pumping iron like y you know, and then he came out, he was cool, and he signed number eight over the wall at Big Mac. It was called MacArthur Stadium at the time. But anyway, it's George Foster.

I got the nineteen seventy two George Foster card. Really? Really, that was his, that was his, that was his second year with the Reds. He wasn't George Foster. Yeah, now he wasn't George Foster then.

And by the way, I want to credit a few individuals who got this right on Twitter: Psych Mamter, Antoine Burwell, Jim Irwin.

Well done, fellas. Good job on that. Yeah, John, that's impressive that you knew that, man. Did you have to watch that? I actually watched that series.

I I can't remember 'cause I was pretty small, but it was seventy five or seventy six. But I had I my mom used to make me go to bed at seven o'clock, and I I would sneak down the hallway. And uh she was a big baseball fan, so is she had And I would hide in the hallway, and I watched that whole series from the hallway. How does it hit? And I had all I could do not to.

Scream when the Reds won. John, I love that. John, here's what's crazy to me. How does like Hank Aaron played. In the mid, you know, late 70s, right?

Mike Schmidt was in his prime then. Dave Kingman, you know, Dale Murphy. You got some amazing home run hitters: Howard Johnson, Kevin Mitchell, the Straw Men, Andre Dawson. How do none of them Hit 50 home runs. From 1966.

to 1989. They had to deal with Bob Gibson and I know it's a little different back then, but Bob was still going one every four days, and it wasn't like they had to face him every single time every nine innings.

So I don't understand for the life of me. And remember, Bob Gibson pitched the National League, so that doesn't justify they couldn't pitch around Foster either, really, with Perez. And Bench and all those guys in that lineup.

So he had and there was always guys on base. And he was a RBI machine. Him and Perez were the RBI guys for that team. Yeah, no, that's well said, John.

Well, listen, man. Table setters of Pete Rose and Morgan. And then Concepcion was just a defensive gem. He couldn't, you know. That's right.

And by the way, a guy that also played in his prime from 1966 to 1989, let's not forget about Pops. I know you remember watching this guy in the 1979 World Series. Yeah. And another guy, hey, hey, what about McCovey's Cove, right? Oh, yeah.

I mean, it was a hell of a feat back then, but for anybody to do it. Plus, they had to stay healthy the whole season.

Well, that usually helps. That usually helps when you hit 50 home runs. They ran into walls and And they busted it out, man. And then you can forget about a cub back in those days, in my opinion. I know Kingman paid played for the Cubs.

But if anybody ever played day baseball, That sucks the energy right out of you. That's why they played late night baseball. That's fair, John.

Well, listen, man. Appreciate the knowledge. Appreciate the phone call. Great job on getting George Foster. You have a good rest of your evening, okay?

Thanks, buddy. I love the show, and thanks for sitting in and taking your time. Thanks, John. It's my pleasure, man. Thank you for the call, and I appreciate the kind words.

Let's get to Marty and Louisville. Marty, you got the answer as well. You knew it was George Foster. You didn't have to look that up. Oh, no, no, Shep, thanks for taking the call.

Of course. Yeah, as soon as you said big as soon as you said big red machine, I knew it was who it was. Wow, I mean even even though Johnny see now the only reason I know Johnny Bench has never had a 50 home run season is because of what Kyle Raleigh is doing right now and he just tied the career high of Johnny Bench which happened in 1970 when he won the MVP at 23 years old and he hit 45 home runs but if I didn't know that I would have sworn the guy that hit 50 home runs for the Reds would have been Johnny Bench. Yeah, you would have think so. Right.

It it was yeah. You know how Foster got it to uh position how you got j the This left hill position? No. Um That year, P. Rose was playing left field.

Right. And they didn't have anybody good at third base. But one day during vetting practice, Barkey saw Pete taking grounders at third. Right. And said, All right, he's my third baseman.

And then he put Foster out and left, and that's when the big red machine really got together. No kidding. No. No, you learn something every day. And I'm you know, I didn't realize.

I I I did I I knew he was a home run hitter, but I didn't realize he was so Consistent. Like the guy had 350 career home runs. I never would have known that. Oh, yeah. He was a he he was a bomber.

Um you know. Everybody thought about Perez and Morgan. Yep, Perez, Morgan, Griffey, Rose, Bench. I mean, that was a very special Reds team. And and I I think you know, I think they should have won more than two World Series.

If I'm being honest in terms of the talent they had. Yeah. You know, and I know and when you think of the seventies, the team that always gets lost in the sauce is the A's with Reggie Jackson. We always think of the seventies and Reggie and game six and three home runs off three different pitchers. But to me, the real team of the seventies was the Oakland Athletics.

That's right. They run three in a row. That's right. Beat the Reds once. That's r that's right.

And and uh Vita Blue, Catfish Hunter.

South Lando, Joe Rudy, yes, yes, no, absolutely, absolutely. Yeah. Damn, man. You really yeah, and tho tho those were the days when the A's were actually respectable. Yeah.

So now they're playing in Sacramento.

So, what do you know? Pretty disappointing. Marty, good call on your part, man. Appreciate the back and forth. Have a great rest of your evening, okay?

All right. Thanks a lot. You too, Jeff. Thanks, Marty. Appreciate you, man.

All right, Botcher. This is a serious request.

Next time we work together. Let's get George Foster on.

Sound good?

Okay, I'll reach out. But I did okay, and to update the Spike Lee thing? You really let's hear it. I don't have him. But if you were going to get, no, we're not paying anything.

Hey, CAA speakers. CAA.com. You can inquire to book Spike Lee. to speak. And this would be longer than five minutes.

So you have to That's a good question. Do we even want to know this amount?

So I I don't know. There's like a there's a very uh Broad paperwork you could fill out.

Okay. I think I'll send an email to them. Got it. But you can give a budget.

So if I send zero dollars as the budget, I think I'm going to be laughed at. You know, if uh I don't know if you saw this. On CBS this morning. Um John Bon Jovi, he's got a restaurant. Did you hear about this?

I didn't hear about it, but I'm assuming it's just Bon Jovi. One of those? New Jersey. I like where you're going with that, but kind of a different train of thought here.

So, John Von Jovi, the way you eat at this restaurant is you pay for it with your time. It's a really cool concept.

So, the longer you stay, the more you pay? Yeah, like the more you get. Like, you know, you got to go back, you got to, you know, clean some dishes, you got to be on a weight staff. Like, there's factors here to eating at that restaurant, but I think it's so cool. Because you pay with your time.

I think that's fascinating. Eat as much Italian food as fast as possible? I is that the goal? That seems like a bad business plan if you want to keep a clean restaurant. That's a fair point.

But I'm thinking to myself. Instead of spikely looking at this, And saying, hey, he should get some kind of compensation and fee if he wants to come on. Why doesn't he look at this as a business opportunity? where we have a big enough platform. Where he shouldn't even be thinking about getting something monetary from joining us.

He should be thinking about the amount of people he's going to be able to reach. By joining us on the Infinity Sports Network. And if nothing else, I'm paying by my time. I'm giving him my time. I'm taking time out of the show.

To promote what it is that he pursued the last few months. What has to do with his professional livelihood? What has to do with the money he's going to put in his pocketbook and towards his kids and towards his family? Maybe. We should be very abstract with this.

and put that. In the request for his speaking fee. What do you think of that, Brian Bacher? I think I agree with that. I also think I just found his agent's number.

Okay. So. All right. I don't know. All right.

Well, you know what? Listen, let's see you work that magic. Let's hey, I I just want to be abundantly clear. I do not expect for one second to us for to be able to book Spike Lee. On short notice.

I was really saying that tongue in cheek. I'm just kind of kidding. I'm curious to see if it's even possible. Because sometimes there's like actors and athletes that don't have any contacts. In the outside world.

Now, here's my thing. He's on a press junket right now.

So he. He's on. He's on. So there's, like you said, he was sleeping at 8 o'clock. He's not sleeping at 8 o'clock.

He's out there right now, whether it's some kind of like film festival or he's in the circuit. He's in the machine right now promoting this particular movie. Because that's what he does. He knows that when he talks about highest to lowest, he wants to join as many different platforms as possible because that's part of the machine in what gets people to theaters to ultimately put money in his pockets, and it has to do with his career. We're helping his career.

by reaching out to him. And putting him on our platform. That's what I truly believe.

Now, listen, who's had more success in their respective career? Spike Lee versus David Shepard and Ryan Botcher?

Okay, I'll give the nod to Spike Lee right now. I understand that. But it would behoove him, and be to his benefit, To come on the show. But then again, I'm still trying to get LeBron James.

So it may take some time. These things do. Number to get aboard, 888-710-4ISN. That is 888-710-4476. We will take your calls on the other side.

We will certainly get into some big-time college football decisions made in terms of starting quarterbacks. This is the Good Shepherd in for the JR Sport Brief. You can always follow me at Shep on Air. If you can't get through our busy phone lines, it's 888-710-4ISN. Spike Lee, if you want to call us at 888-710-4476, we will gladly take your call next segment as well.

And we are all coming right back. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Here's David Shepard. Welcome back, everybody. This indeed is David Shepard on the Infinity Sports Network.

Number to get aboard 888-710-4ISN, 888-710-4476. Congratulations to the polar bear, aka Pete Alonzo, becoming now the all-time. Mets leader in home runs with 253 deals. Dingers, something that no other Met has accomplished in franchise history. He eclipses Daryl Strawberry.

He is able to accomplish this in about 150 less games. And when you factor in that Pete Alonso has been a Met since 2019, that's when he was a rookie, for him to already be. the home run leader in franchise history for a career is mighty impressive and Brewers fans cover your ears It was again an opposite field home run. Congratulations to the Polar Bear Bacher. This is special, man.

I wish we could play the highlight. We can't because of contractual rights, because obviously we need to wait until the game is over. But you talk about a guy that had a rookie record with 53 home runs in 2019, hasn't quite had that kind of a season, but he's been pretty damn special. Oh, yeah, but if you can take into consideration the juice ball era of 2019, where he's sitting where it's, I think it's close to 40 home runs a year. Right.

That's great for a first baseman. And Now, with the way he's playing this year, it's better than last year and the year before that.

So he's playing himself into a new big contract better than this year's. You can say that again. And Brewers fans, have no fear. You are about to win 11 games in a row. You took off two runs in just three innings off of Paul Skeens.

And then you look at what Freddy Peralta has done through three, given up just one hit. Yeah, Brewers can't lose. Mutts can't either as long as Pete Alonso continues to do Pete Alonso type things. And as long as they're not playing the Brewers. Number two can afford 888-710-4ISN.

That is 888-710-4476. Let's get to Alex in Miami. Alex, always appreciate the patience, brother. How you doing? What you got for us, sir?

Hey, what's up, Chef? I'm gonna make it even tougher for Bosther. Maybe he can get you Ben Stitter, maybe he can get you LeBron James. or maybe you can get your Will Smith Not the baseball player, but the flapper. You know, I'm still waiting on that from Ray Jarvis because that was my assignment for Ray.

My assignment for Chris Percy Inan is Ben Stiller, and those guys are great. And they're still aiming for that. Um I think I asked Steph uh Steph Sanchez for um I asked her for Taylor Swift, so we'll see if that comes to fruition. And I'm personally trying to go after LeBron James.

So one of the four has got to land at some point. And again, The next time Ryan Bacher and I work together. We are going to make sure between the two of us that we will get George Foster on the program. But I believe in Ryan Botcher, I believe in manifestation. And I know he is a producer extraordinaire, and if he puts his mind to it.

He's going to be able to get Spike Lee on for five minutes in the next hour and a half. I truly believe that. If he wants it that bad. I believe in Ryan Bacher. I'm setting the expectations high.

Mike Bravel talked about the importance of expectations. I'm putting it out there for Ryan Botcher on the Infinity Sports Network.

So we'll see what happens. Either way, I appreciate Botcher no matter what he does, and he already does a special job for us.

So I am not expecting Spike Lee. I'm hoping. And all of the betting man, Ryan Bachel would probably win because the other people are very highly touted, and at this point, George Foster is not as highly touted, so you have a better chance of getting him on the show. Yeah, no, listen, in all seriousness, whether it's me reaching out, bacha reaching out, like we'll put our heads together, the next time we work together. We will have George Foster on the program.

Definitely, definitely. That allows them to talk about baseball, football. I have questions. But this is my question to you for today, and then I'll get into football. My question to you is this.

In 1961, Maris and Mantle both hit over 50 home runs. Yeah, Maris had 61, and then Mantel got hurt late in the year, but he finished with, what, 52? Fifty two or fifty three, I don't recall exactly.

However, this year I think Eugenio Suarez and Cal Raleigh are going to be able to accomplish that. These effects that Elgin Suarez did not play the whole season with the Americans, is that going to carry the same weight? Yeah, i i it it it would because Yes, to me it would. And it depends on how hot he gets, right? Like right now, Genio Suarez is on pace.

for 51 home runs. If he's able to do that in a Mariner's uniform, I think it makes it even more special if I'm being honest, because who are we kidding, Alex? Like Cal Raleigh. You know, he's never had a 40-home run season. Right, you look at Genio Suarez and what he's been able to do in his career, and he's been in the bigs now for over a decade.

You know, he's never had A 50 home run season. The most he's had, I believe, is 49 with the Reds.

So for both guys to do it, for an organization that is the only remaining baseball team without a World Series appearance, I think it would be just as special, if not more so.

Okay, okay. I agree. I think that it does carry even more weight because of the improbables. Correct. It was a lot more likely for them to accomplish it than obviously the Yankee players.

Um When it comes to football, Um I have some questions. When it comes to the new coaches, it's basically new phases and new places. Um The AFC East has the Buffalo Builds, which is a standard in the AFC East. Correct. But then again, is Erring the Land going to be able to cure Gangrene, that's a big fee.

Yes, I believe he will because. Look, you can say whatever you want about Rex Ryan, but Rex Ryan had. a no-nonsense approach. He believed he was going to win every game. He was absolutely the first one, and I can't recall another Jets coach doing this, who had no problem talking smack.

about the Patriots. Right? And what did they do? They ended up beating the Patriots in the postseason. In Foxborough, Bachelet Stadium.

So That's the kind of swag you're already getting. From Aaron Glenn. And you see that being permeated right to Justin Fields and everyone else. What about Mike Grable? Is he going to be able to Have Drake May team that next can help him out.

Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. If you're able to get to an AFC title game with Ryan Tannehill, you're able to have success with Drake May.

Okay, however, the Miami Dolphins are an interesting story. Are they? Are they? Alex, I know that's your team. You don't have to say your age.

Come on now. How long has it been since you guys have won a playoff game? You know the answer. It's a quarter century. That's what I was getting to.

It's been a while. It's an interesting story because I do think. That they're going to regress, and I do think that they're going to wind up being the worst team in the ASC East. And I'm cutting it like it is. They're my dolphins, but you have to be realistic.

Yes, I would agree with you. And Mr. Boy Wonder, who I thought was really good. as an offensive mind. And I'm not the first person to say this.

I just don't think he commands a locker room. And really, you know, preaches and holds people accountable. I get the sense that there's a lot of looseness when it comes to the Miami Dolphins culture. And I think Mike McDaniel is a brilliant offensive mind. But I do not see him being a long-term head coach.

And I know he's got a unique style, and he's a great quote. I do not see him being the answer for Miami because you know this, Alex. He's had a lot of talent in Miami. Yep. In sports, you have to be realistic.

And I am a Dolphins fan, but I call it like it is. I keep it at 100. You do. You always say it. When it comes to.

When it comes to impactful coaches, There's negative impacts and there's positive impacts. new paces in new places. Ben Johnson, I think, is going to be a a big difference. with the Chicago Bears.

However, the Chicago Bears do play in a very tough division. I think they're going to take strides, but it's going to take a little while. Chicago Bears fans have to be patient. Yes, I agree with you, but that's not something that Chicago knows a whole lot about. The only place worse when it comes to patients is New York.

Yep. When it comes to negative impacts, You have Brian Schottenheimer. Brian Schottenheim got hired by Jerry Jones.

So they give you the puppet, and so that Jerry Jones can be the puppet. I know. It's the worst. It's the worst. An NFL coach.

By the way. By the way, and I now remember the name. Let me tell you something about Puppet Masters. Jerry Jones is so old, and I don't mean just in age, I mean the way he carries himself in terms of his level of thinking at times. He is so old.

that he makes Geppetto look young. Yeah. Yep, that's definitely true, and let me tell you something. You got to give Dallas Cowboys some credit to a certain extent because, on the business aspect of the operation, they're the best. They make a lot of money.

Wait, they're the most profitable. There is nothing best about the Dallas Cowboys over the last 30 years, and you know that. Yes.

Yes.

From the player personnel side, they're the worst.

Okay? They hired Brian Stein hybrid, they hired Matt Aberfuse. When they hired Matt Everfruis, Not only did they hire him to be the offensive coordinator, for all you know, the way that Jerry Jones thinks, he probably hired him to be the clock manager as well. I hear that, brother. Hey, listen, Alex, we gotta we gotta get to a Spores Flash, man, but always a pleasure going back and forth with you.

I appreciate your objectivity. Appreciate you as always. We'll talk over the weekend. Have a great rest of your Tuesday, okay, my friend? Thank you, Chef.

Have a good one. Thanks, Alex. You do the same, man. Number to get aboard: 888-710-4ISN, 888-710-4476.

Marco, sorry, this is your last sports flash with us. Always great going back and forth with you. I got a quick question, and I'm realizing this, and I've heard this point made before. We talk about difficulty of divisions. I look at the AFC West.

You got a three time Super Bowl head coach in Andy Reid. You got a Super Bowl winning coach in Pete Carroll. You got a Super Bowl winning coach in Sean Payton. You got a guy that's a national champion and a Super Bowl appearing head coach in Jim Harbaugh. off the top of your head.

Is this the greatest single division we've ever seen when it comes to head coaches? Oh, geez, off the top of my head. This is unbelievable. This is Murderer's Row. Yeah, I mean, again, you go back far enough.

You can go Bill Parcels, Joe Gibbs, and Tom Landry all at the same time with the Cowboys, the Washington, and the Giants. That's a good one. And but the E, but the Dick Vermeal?

Well, Dick Vermeal, yeah, with the Eagles at the time. Yeah, that was early. At that point, though, the Giants hadn't, so Parcells wasn't. Parcells yet. It was Perkins, right?

It wasn't Perkins. But Ray Perkins was before Parcells. Parcells took over in 83. Right. And Dick Vermill made the Super Bowl with the Eagles in 80.

Sure.

So, yeah, like at the same time, though, I mean, if you go into 19. 88. Right. Bill Parcels had a Super Bowl. Landry had already been there with three.

You had Gibbs already with a couple.

So, like at the time when they were all together, that's the only one off the top of my head that can rival that. There might be another, but I can't think of. I I mean You know, there's some good coaches that ran through. When Bill Walton wa was was there, but I mean, you know, John Robinson didn't have a Super Bowl title. I can't think of one off the top of my head.

No. Because I'm just thinking, as much crap as the AFC South gets in terms of the lack of competition. that the Jaguars are, you know, potentially gonna face. You talk about an AFC West. I mean, this is as competitive as it gets.

I mean, you have an up-and-coming Bo Nicks. The Raiders are going to be significantly better just with their quarterback. Being an upgrade from Aiden O'Connell with Geno Smith and then Pete Carroll. You talk about the Chiefs, they're going to be the Chiefs. They're always going to be the Chiefs as long as Andy Travis and Patrick are there.

And then you talk about, you know, the Chargers. I know Rashawn Slater goes out down for the count, unfortunately, in practice before he ever even sees the field for the preseason. But you would anticipate that in year two, they're going to improve, and they were pretty good last year minus the postseason. They were. And you know, he's going to want to run the football to Jim Harbaugh, and that's something that they're going to hang their hat on.

Obviously, they want Najee Harris back, but the Chargers are going to be good. That whole division is going to be good. I don't know if the Raiders are ready to make that leap into. Those teams, but they'll be better simply because not only do they have competent quarterback play, and I'm not a huge Geno Smith guy by any stretch, but he's competent. And that's something that they did not have last year.

And again, I like Antonio Pierce. He lost whatever mojo magic you wanted to give him from a couple years ago in the interim. He lost the room from the start because he couldn't figure out who his quarterback was. And you can't play this like Pop Warner, where you go, you know, one week from this guy, and then one week from that guy, and he looked good in practice.

So let's go with this guy. It doesn't work. By the way, Um Gruden. gave him that job. Hear me out.

They should have went with Rich Persatya. Yeah. He was the guy. And then they said, you know what? No, sorry, sorry, sorry, excuse me.

McDaniels. McDaniels gave him that job because McDaniels was so bad. And they thought he was going to be they thought he was going to be a winner because he's a proven commodity as an offensive coordinator. And they made a big mistake by not going with the guy that got you to the playoffs with all the hardship they had to deal with with the John Gruden fallout. And they realized looking back, they should have given Rich Persace an opportunity.

And so because of that, I think that's why they went with Antonio Pierce. No doubt. That was definitely a part of it. And again, sometimes you learn from your mistakes and sometimes you don't. They're different people.

They're different personalities. And again, I understand the concept of why they tried to roll the dice with Pierce and it's one year.

So it wasn't that big a deal. It didn't set their franchise back 20 years like other things have done. Sure.

It is what it is. But the whole point is the idea that Carroll and Geno Smith alone bring stability where it gives you the opportunity to compete. And you add in the Tom Brady element of whatever, however much he's involved or not involved or whatever that is. To me, it's the element of Pete Carroll walks in the room. You know, he's got command of the room.

You know, he's got command of the roster. You know, he knows what he wants to do. Whether or not his players can accomplish, that is a different story, but he has a game plan and he has an understanding. And that's part of being a head coach. And he's going to be able to navigate all the disasters that are going to come with that.

So they're going to be competent. Good is a different story, but they'll be competent. And that's a start for the Raiders. Absolutely. And we are late to a sports flash, but it's always good going back and forth with my guy, Marco Belletti.

When we get back, we're going to take your calls. We're going to certainly talk about the biggest headlines in college football, including some key starters being named. You are indeed listening to the JR Sport Friend. Number to get aboard, 888-710-4ISN, 888-710-4476. When we get to the top of the hour, we will certainly talk about the biggest college football headlines. Alabama deciding on a starter. Ohio State, still a little undecided.

We will certainly give you the latest on the other side. In baseball, Pete Alonzo becoming the Mets' all-time franchise leader in home runs hit, passing Daryl Strawberry with 253 home runs for the Metropolitans, aka the good guys in New York. I'm kidding. They are both good guys. They are both great organizations.

The Yankees have so much success that it is easy to root for them to fail. I'm not saying I do that, but I know most of the country feels that way. Hence, it's why some of you call them the evil empire. Let's get back to the busy phone lines in the meantime. And Marshall in Milwaukee, your Brewers, last time I checked, looked like they were in great command.

Over the Pittsburgh Pirates. And as we update the score, Marshall, as my browser continues to load, the Brewers now find themselves up 4-0. And Freddy Peralta, as you know, is about to have an MLB best 14 wins. How you doing, buddy?

Well, great. One of the voices of the market, they're still the Warriors, by the way, as he always would say, live in the dream right now. Steve the Holmberg crew here in Milwaukee as well as that. Marshall, Marshall, what what what what happens first? An an American male winning a a grand slam in tennis or the Brewers losing?

You know right now I would still have to save probably burrs and things that are so many data. But but But boy, what would be a better thing to have happen this fall would be the brewers Winning the World Series. Hey, hey, you know your guy Ryan Botcher? You know he doesn't believe in you guys. Did you know that?

Well, there's some locally that don't totally pay a a certain guy whom I respect and like, but uh we got to put our pessimism aside here. It's the ride, and we got a great chance this year. I mean, when you have the kind of pitching staff that we have, and it's on display tonight, You're going to be there. I'm telling you. Yeah, what's he giving up?

Just one hit through five innings? Yeah, it's just unreal. And You know, we beat Skeens earlier in the year four to two.

So he he's a terrific pitcher, but uh but we've proven he's not invincible. And uh we have some pretty good pitchers too.

So it's It's just exciting times right now and uh you know, just enjoy the ride right now. That's what I said to you last night and to other people, just enjoy the ride. And I just want to quickly comment too on You know, we haven't had space to talk about Justin Fields, the Jets, and the Packers here, but. It's just a preseason game.

However, I agree with you. And the more I've thought it through about Justin Fields, Boy, those that were making the case for him, even over Caleb Williams. There may they may have a case there. I was one of them. Marshall, he got a raw deal in Chicago.

He even got more of a raw deal in Pittsburgh. And I'm hoping Caleb can turn things around. It's an absolute blessing for him that he gets Ben Johnson as opposed to Matt Everfluis. That's going to be a huge difference maker. But I am with you.

I believe that Justin Fields is going to have a career year. Yeah. I think the Jets are going to be better. I have relatives. in Westchester County out there.

In fact, I talked to one of them the other day and they're they're more a little more excited about the Jets this year than they've been in a while. And even with the the way Jackson Dart performed, they're more Giant fans than Jet fans, but they they follow both. And You know, it was just, it's good to see some excitement in New York there with football because it's been a dark time for a long time. Yes, yes, you can say that again. Outside of that playoff victory against Minnesota, there has been nothing to write home about in terms of playoff football when it comes to the Giants and Jets.

Marshall, continued success with your Brewers this week. I look forward to rejoicing about the Brewers after their 15-game win streak over the weekend, man. Good to hear from you. We'll talk soon, okay, my friend? Marshall, yeah, I think you're talking, but the reality, Marshall, I'll talk to you during the break, man.

I think you don't realize that the timer's playing and we got to get out.

So we will get out. We'll get back to your phone calls. We will also discuss the biggest headlines in college football. Alabama's got a starter. Ohio State doesn't.

We'll give you the latest next shepherd for J.R. We're coming right back.
