The show gets started every weekday, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I just gave you a new top six list, as I do every Wednesday. We took a look at some of the best quarterbacks, the top six quarterbacks in the NFL. over the last twenty five years.
I'm going to get back to your calls momentarily. We talk some college football. Thank you so much to Dan Wolken for joining us from USA Today. Got all these conference media days going on, ACC this, and Big ten that. Big 12 last week, SEC.
Well, we got a lot of football. Let's just get to the games, okay? Got NFL training camps going on. Speaking of quarterbacks, we got some miserable ass quarterbacks and things just got started. Yeah, Joe Burrow not happy with the fact that uh And Shamar Stewart's not at work.
Trey Hendrickson's not at work. Tua Tanga Valoa is sick of Tyreek Hill. This is all just normal stuff. Russell Wilson, always happy. Has he ever been miserable?
Oh, he'll never publicly be miserable. Never, ever, ever. Of course, we got more to do as we roll on with the show. At the end, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. And there's even a crazy story that I saw today.
About a little leaguer. Who's been suspended was suspended, is suspended. For flippin' his bat His team might be going to the Little League World Series and he might be having to sit his ass on the sidelines. Wow. Anyway.
You missed a minute of the show? Hit rewind. on the Free Odyssey app. You can listen live on the Odyssey app too. Thank you for listening on your local affiliates.
A Sirius XM channel 375. And if you have a smart speaker, ask the speaker to play. The Infinity Sports network. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N is the number. That's 888.
seven ten. four. I S N You know, speak, I just gave you the top six list of quarterbacks in the last 25 years. You missed a full explanation on everybody. Hit rewind.
We played all the fancy audio and everything. And number six, I gave you Ben Roffel's burger. Basically, almost a toss-up between him and Eli. I know what Eli did. He was Superman in the playoffs.
Multiple time Super Bowl MVP, but I just found Throughout his career, generally speaking, Ben Roethlisberger was a better quarterback and more efficient. And number five I gave you Drew Brees. Number four, I gave you Aaron Rodgers. Number three, I gave you Peyton Manning. Number two, I gave you Patrick Mahomes.
At number one, I gave you Tom Brady. And before I get back to the phone lines, Let's listen to some miserable quarterbacks. These guys just got to work. They're making millions and millions of dollars. And maybe it's because they have to speak to the media.
They're sad.
Well Joe Burrow is. is sad. I want you to listen to Joe Burrow earlier today. express his disappointment. in the fact That's Shamar Stewart.
hasn't signed his rookie contract. That one of the best edge rushers in the game. Trey Hendrickson has not signed his contract. listen to a miserable Joe Burrow. Yeah obviously disappointed.
You know, you'd like to have Have all your guys out there Dang one to try to to build that cohesion that I was talking about earlier. But that's It's not how it usually works out. You know, it's a business and That is uh how it's gone. Damn. He sounds d you don't this guy is playing for the Cincinnati Bengals.
is one of the best quarterbacks in the game. MVP candidate for a team that didn't even make the playoffs last year. And it already feels and sounds like The Bengals are sucking the life out of this guy. Miserable. I think both Shamar and Trey Hendrickson will be at work and then maybe sooner than later Joe Burrows sounds.
Better. He's had a rough year, too, just personally, right? Broke into his house, team sucks. Yeah. Good luck to Joe Burrow.
I'm wishing him the best. Getting paid a lot of money. Uh anyway, somebody else miserable today. Kind of miserable with his pain in the ass wide receiver is Tua Tonga Valoa. We all heard the talk from Tyreek Hill at the end of last season.
He's like, oh, we didn't go to the playoffs. I need to leave. Go elsewhere. I need to do what's best for me. I ain't never been a part of a loser.
I need to go. And then of course he changed his tune. And two is like, yeah, we're rebuilding a relationship. This guy basically publicly said he was going to quit on us. This is my first time I haven't been in the playoffs, man, so.
I mean for me, like I said, man, I just gotta do what's best for me and my family, dog. If that's here or that's where, wherever the case may be, man, I'm finna open that door for myself, dog. As I'm opening the door, like. Like I'm out, bro. You know, so it was great playing here, but.
Yeah, that's Tyreek Hill being miserable. This is what Tua said today about rebuilding their relationship. I I would say we're still continuing to do that. But it's not just with me, it's with a lot of the guys. I'm not the only one that heard that.
You guys aren't the only people that heard that. You know, a lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek, that are fans of his, you know, everyone has seen that. Um when you say something like that, it's You don't just come back from that with, hey, my bad. You know, you got to work that relationship up, you got to build everything up. Um Again and Yeah, it's still a work in progress, not just for me, but for everybody.
Um Like I said, he's working on himself. He's working on the things that he says he wants to get better with and do better on. That's the first step to me and so I commend him for doing that. If I was in Miami, I'd be miserable too. Everybody down there about to get fired.
Everybody. Mike McDaniel's likely gonna get the boot. Tyree Kill is likely to quit. And Tuatonga Valoa, I hope he stays healthy, but that guy is not winning nothing big time. He can't even play when it's chilly outside.
Forget cold, he can't play when it's chilly. A brisk wind comes by and Tuatongavalo is shivering. Come on, man. Miami is a disaster. Hey, let's talk about a guy in a team not a disaster, multiple-time MVP.
Somebody asked about Lamar last hour. You know, the top six quarterbacks over the past 25 years. Lamar is not on the list, hasn't accomplished enough, even with the MVPs, hasn't won enough. Uh Lamar typically sounds upbeat. W was he miserable to day?
I guess not. He said that there's another level For him to take his game, really? In your mind, is is there another level for you still? I'm only 28. I'm really just getting started for real.
Oh, the optimism I like it.
Well what about the offense? You got DeAndre Hopkins now.
Well what's going on? I believe our offense has no limits because we got guys that can play any position. You know, like you just said, like Zay drawing a slide, got D-Hop outside, bait outside. Manus It's no roof. The ceiling is unlimited for our guys.
And I really don't want to get our offense away. You pretty much just put Zay on the spot, put me on the spot. We're going to keep it under the radar until teams got to see us. Oh, he's happy. He's happy for a guy who hasn't won a Super Bowl, hasn't been.
Congratulations to him. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. I I don't drive too deep. into the Buffalo Bills or the Ravens.
10 plus wins, 10 to 15 wins. What are y'all gonna do? Just Beat Patrick Mahomes for once, dammit. Go to the Super Bowl. Eventually, it has to happen.
There's no over-analyzing the situation over here, especially in the beginning or before the season starts. It's been the same old, same old. For the past few years, and somebody drops a pass or they can barely get by my home. He's the boogeyman for these guys. Come on.
I want to see it. I think eventually. Josh Allen Lamar will win a Super Bowl. I feel more confident in Josh Allen than Lamar. One of these guys eventually is going to win the Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes can't win it every year, he can't represent the AFC every year. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N It's eight eight eight seven ten four I S N. Larry is calling from Boise, Idaho. You on the chair our support re show. What's up, Larry?
What's up, JR? How are you? Good man. You went over a lot of stuff.
So I don't know of how I'm gonna To like comment on all that stuff. Don't do that. Give me whatever's on the top of your mind first and only. Go ahead.
Well, thanks, man. I'm out of the two hundred eight. I'm up here in Boise, Idaho. And I just got a little problem with where you position Payton and Mahomes. I hate Tom Brady.
I'm a die-hard Denver Broncos fan. I'll hate it forever. Um And I hate my homes too. But um I gotta give it to Tom. He is number one.
I'm not gonna dispute that. But Craigen Emma Holmes Come on, man. Look, if you look Yeah. How many yards was Peyton from four versus how many Mahomes? This guy could get injured next year.
And I'm giving it, I'm telling you, he's really good, and he should be positioned up there for sure. If you remember the y uh the season of uh uh Super Bowl forty eight When Payton literally shattered every freaking record known to man. Um And coming back from the negery and all of it, I don't think Mahomes. has has got the has earned the stripes to call himself better than Peyton yet.
Well then I'll give it back to you, bro.
Well, thank you so much, Alive, for calling from Boise. Yeah, I had mentioned some of those points. And I'm not kinda rolling out. individual statistics and stats and numbers and Going ahead and comparing this and that all the way. That's not the only indicator.
It's without a shadow of a doubt. Given Peyton Manning's career from ninety eight Sans the year that he had to go away with the neck surgery and finishing up in in twenty fifteen that he has had a more decorated career Than Patrick Mahomes. That goes without saying. But all things considered, When I take a look at the accomplishments, all of them, of Patrick Mahomes given the shorter amount of time that he has played, And he's done this, youngest this, youngest that, youngest that. Of course, Patrick Mahomes, they could break his leg tomorrow.
And we never see him again. he would still be looked upon as one of the best quarterbacks to ever throw a football. and that's why I had him on the list. And I gotta make things a little controversial as well now. That's part of it.
Eight eight eight seven ten four I S N. That's 888-710-4ISN. Dave is here from Tennessee. You're on the chair on Support Brief Show. What's up, Dave?
What's up, guys? Hey, how are you? How are you? I'm great, man, but uh So a lot of my questions are about I see I hear people questioning quarterbacks about Hey, you didn't win the Super Bowl. Hey, you didn't Burn it up in the playoffs.
But you know what? It's not just about the quarterback and the offense. You know? It And a lot of it resolves back down to You know what the whole team does.
So If I looked at the top three quarterbacks, I have no disagreement with what you came up with, okay? Perfect. You're right. But there's a lot of other great quarterbacks getting out of out of my truck. Oh, I look great on the cornerback.
Yeah. Golf? Mahomes. Wait a minute. Wait, Dave.
Wait, hold on, Dave. Hold on. Dave, Dave, Dave, hold on. Hold on, Dave. It's a top six list.
Of course there are more than six great quarterbacks. But if you're gonna make an argument, About the other quarterbacks, and one of the first names that you mentioned. Is Jared Goff? D Dave. Did you get out the truck and fall and hurt yourself?
Are you okay? I did. I had to go around the side. I had to go around the side of the house real quick. I'm sorry.
No, no, no, no.
Okay, but hold on, Dave. I'm going to do this real fast, and I want you and everybody else to listen.
Okay? Listen to some of the names that I'm going to say. All right? Again. Brady.
My homes. Manning. Fran's not at work. I thought we were talking about. Oh my God.
Dave. Yeah, the goal. Yeah, Dave. I've been here for the past been here for the past hour. And I just gave.
I am going to go ahead. I just gave A top six list. of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. over the last twenty five years. Ow.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. My bad. It's okay. My bad. All right, Dave, thank you for calling from Tennessee.
Thank you. Bye. Oh, thank you. Thank you. Oh, my God.
Bacha, did he he really he really did he fall and hurt himself on the way out the truck? Uh no, maybe just got distracted. Man, I I I feel like I've been saying that for the past 90 minutes, right? 25, past 25 years. The past.
Twenty Five. Yes. I'd be surprised that there's an active quarterback playing past twenty-five years. Ah, the way things are going now. He said Jared Goff.
I had to go, what? I it I heard a golf. I'm like, What is this guy smoking? At least he had an excuse. Oh.
Okay, anyway, like Tom Brady's not active. Who are you telling? I know. Thank God he's not active anymore. I'm glad he's gone.
eight eight eight seven ten four I S N Eight at eight, seven, seven, four, ISA.
Now you could Hang out with Geno. Tell Gino how to throw the ball when he's not broadcasting. Andrew is here from Buffalo. You're on the chair of our sport reshow. What's up, Andrew?
Hey, JR, thanks again for taking my call. I appreciate it. Sure.
So you mentioned um You're talking a little bit about not overanalyzing uh you know, Buffalo and and Baltimore 'cause they can't I can't get over that hump against Patrick Mahomes, and I totally get it. What I want to say though is I feel like the Chiefs are kind of bad for football at this point. And I know I don't usually like that argument, but There is nobody as long as the coaches Stay the same, and Andy Reid is stocking Kansas City. who is going to represent the The AFC in the Super Bowl. I don't know of a team that can do it.
I don't think Lamar's got it. How is that?
Well, help me out. How is that bad for football? He just lost. He just went to the Super Bowl and got his ass whooped again. Mm-hmm.
But that's The Super Bowl fatigue, someone. I don't. Who do you, in your opinion, could overcome him? I'm still trying to understand.
Well, we just saw the Eagles do it. Was Tom Brady and the Patriots were they bad for football? They didn't even win every year. Nobody cared. People got sick of it, but they didn't win every year.
Was Michael Jordan in the 90s? And he took a two-year break. Were the Bulls bad for basketball? No, people loved it. The Yankees, the Yankees bad for baseball?
What are we doing? Right. I guess it's bad because, um You know, coming out of as someone who wants to see Josh Allen, who who is the best quarterback right now, physically gifted, he's the best. There's no one there's To me it's it's it's close, but it is Josh. And I hope I have some agreers with me It's um I don't like the coaching situation.
They take the Chiefs different version of those teams. They just figure it out. year in and year out. They had Rashi Rice as their number one, Hill as their number one, they used Kelsey and Gray, and they just never slip up. Wow.
And I don't see them slipping up. I think, and you talk about Rashid Rice. We know he blew out his knee last year. He's likely going to be suspended a good part of this year. Travis Kelsey looked old and busted up last year.
They still ended up in the Super Bowl. He had to run for his life, Mahomes did, and they still lost, but. Yeah, it's it's it's not easy.
Well, thank you, Andrew. Appreciate you. Yeah. Of course. No doubt about it.
Shout out to Andrew for calling from Buffalo. He's like, Hey, the Chiefs are bad for f they just lost. I think there are a lot of people that were happy that they lost the Super Bowl earlier this year. Like me, I don't have no problem with it. I think it's good when you have a bad guy when a team can develop into being the villain.
I remember when the Golden State Warriors, they they started their dynasty. It's like, oh, they're great except for that that guy Draymond, that dirty Draymond Green out here punching and stepping on guys' groins and heads and forearms and elbows. And then they got Kevin Durant. And it's like, this is an evil team. Like we hope they lose.
like everybody needs a villain. Everybody needs an antagonist. Everybody needs somebody to go against. It's just. That's the nature of any good storyteller.
That's the the nature of any good sport. Gotta have a good guy. Gotta have a bad guy. Even if you got two good guys going at it, somebody has to be the bad guy. 888-710-4ISN is the number.
That's 888-710-4ISN. Speaking of a bad guy, there's an umpire in New Jersey. Bad guy. He threw a kid out for flippin' a bat. The kid is almost on his way to a state championship, maybe a Little League World Series.
And they put this kid On ice. Fair or unfair. We'll talk about that on the other side. I'll get some of your calls. We'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history.
It's the JR Sport Reshow on the Infinity Sports Network. You are listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you. Coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Hey, we've been talking about some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
Over the past 25 years, I repeat, 25 years, somebody called up and said, Jared Goff. I'm like, excuse me? What are you talking about? Oh, I thought you were. Talking about active, no, man.
I don't even know if I'd put Garf on an active list right now with top six, man. Not basically after what we just saw in the postseason. Eight eight eight seven ten four I S N It's eight eight eight seven ten. Four I S N I did mention this, uh This story. It's kinda crazy.
There's a young man. In New Jersey, a little league player. Who's been suspended from a state finals game? Because he hit a home run. He's twelve years old.
and he decided, It's a flip. his bat.
Now, in a lot of cases, this is at the umpires. Discretion whether or not to throw the kid out or suspend him or what have you. Uh uh the empire decided to do so. The young man His name is Marco Rocco. He's 12 years old.
From Haddon Field Little League. His team If they win again, they could make it all the way into the Little League World Series. But he's he's suspended. And so It it it's kinda crazy. That you just kind of take this away from a 12-year-old, but these are the rules.
I would think it'd be overturned. I mean, why take away a life experience from the kid? I think, even going through all of this at this point in time. would be something that would Maybe teach him a lesson. And so his dad has even File the lawsuit.
to try to get his kid. Back into the game. or at least unsuspend him.
So he can participate. in the next game and then potentially In the Little League World Series. He's a 12-year-old. Why are you trying to punish him that bad? You got him.
Leave him alone. Hey, Bacha, you played baseball. Is this this a little too much? Yes. God forbid a a kid of fun, you know?
All I did was flip a bat. The only time I was warned as a kid to not throw your bat is when you swing and you release on contact. If you throw it to the backstop or throw it to the side, you might hit someone.
So that that is good enough for a warning. Flipping it after hitting a home run, I have no issue with this, especially when they see it everywhere on T V nowadays. And that's the argument made by his dad. His father has said, and this is a great argument. Like, if you take a look at the Little League World Series and Little Leagues in general.
He says it is promoted all over the place despite what the rules say. Of kids just flipping their bats. You go through the social media, a kid is flipping his bat here, a kid is flipping his bat there. If it is against the rules, Why are we promoting it? Which I think is an excellent point.
I mean, if I got to look at the NBA, we know the fines are massive and the suspensions are huge. for guys fighting. If two guys are getting into it, we may see it on some of the broadcast partners. But the NBA is not going to be like, yeah, let's watch these guys push and shove each other and get it on. It's not something.
That they want to highlight. And so, yeah. People who handle social media accounts are certainly different from the Probably old fuddy nutties sitting around writing the rule books that probably haven't been touched in in centuries. I'm exaggerating. But there's a difference there.
Let the kid play. He's 12 years old. I think somebody with common sense, a judge, or whoever will look at this and go, man, let the stupid kid play.
Okay, he's 12 years old. He flipped the bat. There's a whole bunch of nonsense. Keep it moving. And we get it.
There are a lot of crazy parents out here. This is not a parent going wild on a baseball diamond on the field on the court. It's just a kid who flipped the bat. And the umpire has discretion. This is not Draymond Green in the NBA Finals, okay?
The kid didn't ring up text, and now he's been banned for a game.
So just. lay off a little bit. 888-710-4ISN It's 888-710-4ISN. Lupe. It's calling from Colorado Springs.
You're on the JR Sportry Show. What's up, hey? How you doing, JR? I like your take with Aaron Rodgers and Drew Breed. But I'm curious why not Matthew Stafford?
Came from Detroit. In that well of a team, but look at him now.
Okay, he well. Let me ask you this. Out of everybody that I name, Who would you you would select Matthew Stafford over who? True priest. And Drew Bridge, because you know, the year they won the Super Bowl, I mean.
You got to give it to New Orleans. I mean, they they needed one. You know, after that, Katrina hurt. Yeah. And I'm not saying that's why they won.
But, you know You could say that the team that the city needed it. That's why I bring that up. All right. I can't even, Lupe, it would sound ridiculous.
So argue with you. Over Matthew Stafford being a better quarterback than Drew Brees. Um I'm I'm not gonna do it, Lupe. I'm going to let you research it. I can't do that.
Thank you. Okay, thank you. Thank you, Lupe. Appreciate you. Thank you.
Like, certain things are just not even worth arguing. You ever walked into a room and just, maybe for Thanksgiving, And you just heard what people were arguing about, and you just turned around and walked. I'm not doing this right now. Like, why am I gonna get I'm not roping myself into an argument? About Drew Brees and Matthew Stafford.
I am not. doing it. Eight eight eight seven ten four I S N eight eight eight seven ten four I S N Man, that's uh That's crazy. Hey, Marco Belletti, did you hear you heard about the kid with the bat flip? I did.
You think they should let him play? Look, let's start with the fact that he's 12. I mean, can we start with that? No, let's punish him for the rest of his life. No more baseball.
I mean, and then on top of it, you've got Major League Baseball that have commercials now. with let them play. Where they're showing this. I mean, we got past some of this stuff, right? I mean, this was the old baseball culture, and you're not allowed to do any of that.
And then we've been, what, fighting this battle for the last 20 years? No longer to get thrown at. And now they're actually saying, go ahead, go have some fun. Bat flips are okay. And we highlight it and we put it on packages.
You don't think kids watch? You don't think they see? You think they know anything about Bob Gibson and getting thrown at? They don't care. They see what happened.
Last week, last month. What are we doing? The kid's 12. The Little League itself promotes bat flips, but their rules say that you can get suspended for at the umpire's discretion.
So the umpire is just uh. He's a curmudgeon. He wants to punish a 12-year-old. That's basically what it comes down to. Look, and I get it.
I'm not saying umpiring is easy because it's not, and I've done it at times, and it's been a long time since I did it. And I get it. And you get a lot of flack from parents that it's like, what are you talking about? The kid's 10. Stop.
So I get, and I understand maybe there was frustration involved, but like. Step back for a second and realize. This ain't about you. This is about the kids. Have you ever thrown out a twelve-year-old?
Yeah. Oh damn. I was part of a crew that tossed a parent. Oh, that's normal. I was hoping that you tossed a kid out the game.
That'd be a fun story. No, never tossed a kid. I only did it for a few years. Never tossed a kid. Did have a parent toss, and I didn't actually do the tossing.
It was the guy that I was with, and we needed an escort. To get out of there because he was waiting for us on the other side of the fence. I'm not even kidding you. Yeah, you never know. It's a wild world that we got.
And he had more than just him. He brought a bunch of his buddies. They came to the field. They were waiting for us because they threw him out in like the second or third inning. And we could see the formation of the gang on the other side of the fence.
In between innings, we were looking at each other. It's for kids, man. Act like an adult at a kids' game at minimum. 10 and under. Oh my gosh, 10 and under.
And this is what this guy was doing. What a world. That's what I'm saying.
So, like, again, it's not about you, it's about the 12-year-old.
So, like, whether or not you like this, or this is not the way the game was played, and I didn't grow up like that. Like, this isn't about you. And I'm talking about the umpire. No one cares what your feelings are, what your thoughts are. You're not doing anything.
You're not teaching a lesson. You're punishing a 12-year-old child who is not going to take away, you know what? Maybe I shouldn't bat flip and be over-exuberant on the field. He's going to come away with, I can't believe this old bleepity bleep is not letting me play. That's the lesson you take.
They're going to. If they continue to move on, they're ultimately going to let him play. I'd I'd be surprised if, you know, they just kind of put him in mothballs.
So. I think it'll work out, and I think the umpire as well at this point will have learned a lesson. Like, relax, bro. It's not that. Serious.
Let's see what happens. I think they'll get him. Out there on the field, and hopefully, the team makes it to the Little League World Series, and then we'll hear about this story for the next. Weak. He's allowed to bad flip when he gets to Pennsylvania?
Is that allowed there? No? He should. The spite 'em. He should.
And then, no, there'll be a whole nother. No, there'll be a whole nother controversy about how he didn't learn his lesson.
So, no, I think he's done with the bad flipping. It's a crazy stuff. It's the JR Sport Re Show here with you, coast to coast, on the Infinity Sports Network. We come back, I'll get some more of your calls. We'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history.
But right now, it's a news flash with Marco Belletti. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Oh, thanks, yeah. YouTube since two thousand nine. I can't wear a hat anymore.
I got too much hair on my head. Impossible. Anyway, I need you to thank O'Reilly Auto Parts for all of your car care needs, your guaranteed low prices, and excellent customer service from the professional parts people at. O'Reilly Auto Parts. Hey, we've had some callers who've been waiting patiently.
I want to get them on the line. I want to make sure that you guys go ahead and hit your point quick so we can get into a few things that took place this day in sports history. 888-710-4ISN. Chris is here from Wisconsin. You're on the JR Sport Reshow.
Go ahead, Chris. Oh man, it made me laugh hearing people talking about golf, but it did get me wondering: do you think there's anybody? currently as a QB active, who could even crack that top six. I think Josh Allen and Lamar. But if you think about the past 25 years, the past 25 years is the past.
I mean, if we got to think about. you know, the last ten years, then they'd most certainly be on the list, but I I think they could enter into the space of of uh do they gotta get a ring to get in there? Uh well, I don't I don't know what you're asking because if I'm looking at the past 25 years. If we want to think about these guys getting into the company of these names, I think they might be on their way. And I think between the two of the guys that you just mentioned, I think one of them is at least bound to pick up.
at least one championship.
So yeah, well we got Lamar and Josh Allen. Those are undoubtedly the the the two best QBs that are playing right now. That haven't won a championship. And I still think they're young enough, as you just heard Lamar Jackson say. They got a chance to do so.
Hey, Chris, thank you for calling from Wisconsin. Could sneak in there? Yes, he can if his team could actually stop a nosebleed. Thank you, Chris. Yeah, of course.
Thanks, man. Appreciate you. No doubt. 888-710-4ISN. Daniel is calling from Tennessee.
You're on the JR Sport Breech show. What's up, Daniel? What's going on, J.R.? I love your show, man. Good job.
Thanks, sure. I'm sorry about that last guy from Tennessee with the golf. We're all not that dumb down here in Tennessee. What's up? But I was going to say, he might be on the cusp, but we'll figure out what do you think of Kurt Warner or Brett Favre might be in that top six?
Yeah, so we talked about Kurt Warner last hour. I think Kurt Warner, he kind of hit right at the beginning of 99 into 2000, greatest show on turf. We know about the MVP. He came back and then he lost that Super Bowl to Tom Brady, where Tom Brady won his first. Then he got hurt, and then he had a little bit of a resurgence with the Arizona Cardinals going back to the Super Bowl and then losing to Big Ben.
So, a Kurt Warner, no doubt, a Hall of Famer, but I think past 25 years, it's just. A little up and down on that. And then Brett Favre had his glory years, even though he played forever. His glory years, his MVPs, his Super Bowl championship, that was in the 90s.
So I wouldn't. Put Brett Farvin on this list of 25 years. But thank you, Daniel. Appreciate you, man. Oh, you're welcome, man.
Yeah, about the kid with the bat, whatever happened to the warning first, you know. But thanks for taking my call. No problem, Danny. Yeah, kick a 12-year-old out the game. Why not?
Sean from North Carolina, you get the last word quick. Hey, JR, thanks for taking my call. I'm a little bit. Huge. Dolphins fan, so I appreciate The shout outs to Dan Marino.
And that's the difference between Marino not having won a ring. And Then people wanting to bring up uh you know, the Baltimore quarterback and Josh Allen. But guess what? They're never going to break every NFL record ever.
Well, I'll say this, Sean, and thank you for calling from North Carolina. They got time to still go out there. And won a championship, and I'd be shocked. if at some point over the next ten years One of these two guys don't want to ring, if not multiple. Hey, it's the end of the show.
Time for a few things that took place this day in sports history. Do Back, back, back, back! Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history.
See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything, and it was primitive and lousy, and we liked it. On the JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. July twenty third, nineteen sixty two. Jackie Robinson.
He became the first black man to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Listen to this, listen to a portion of his speech, courtesy MLB. I never thought at all that I would have this wonderful honor coming to me so early in my lifetime. And to have the writers to elect me on the first time is a thrill that I shall never forget. We have been up in cloud nine since the election.
I don't ever think I'll come down. But I want to thank all of the people throughout this country who were just so wonderful during those trying days. I appreciate it no end. It's the greatest honor any person could have. And I only hope that I'll be able to live up to this tremendously fine honor.
It's something that I think those of us who are fortunate again must use in order to help others because it's such a tremendous honor that we should be able to go out and do things help. I'm just grateful and I'm sorry it's taken so long, but I just wanted you to know I appreciate it so much. Thank you. Exemplary human being, Jackie Robinson. July 23rd, the year 2000.
I can't say the same about this guy. Tiger Woods, 24 years old. The youngest guy. To win and get the career grand slam, he won the British Open. Listen to Tiger tell you about it.
to have an opportunity to complete the slam here at St. Andrew's and to have everything Ironically enough, come down to this tournament, the Open Championship. at St. Andrews, the Homa Golf. It's been a very special week and to come back here and And To finally win here.
It's truly special. And I'm looking forward to.
next year and defending my title. Thank you very much. Oh, how regal that was. Hey, July 23rd, the year 2009, Mark Burley. This is the day that he pitched that perfect game.
He beat Tampa Bay 5-0. He struck out six guys. But I remember this catch from Dwayne Wise. Remember this? That ball hit deep in the left center field.
Wise back, back. Makes the catch! What a playboys makes a catch. What a playbye. My wives, mercy.
A great catch. By Dwayne Wise. It's unbelievable as Wise goes back into the wall, knowing he has no room to spare. He goes up over the wall. and then juggles it before corralling it.
What a play by Wye. Under the circumstances, one of the greatest catches I have ever seen. Yeah, that's courtesy of Comcast Sportsnet. That was the 18th perfect game Mark, well, not Mark Burley threw. That was the 18th perfect game in Major League History.
July 23rd. Oh, this didn't age well. It's funny. 2019. Michael Jordan's Jordan brand with Nike.
They signed Zion. to the richest sponsorship deal in rookie history. Seven years, $75 million. What did he do with that money? He's eating, eating, getting tattoos, playing video games, being out of shape, doing everything except for playing basketball for the Pelicans.
Listen to Michael Jordan talk about Zion's passion for basketball, which I don't think exists anymore. They have a talented young man who shows a certain passion about the game. And that's something that you can't give. You're either born with it. and you basically want to share it with the rest of the world.
We looked at Zion being an impact player that would bring energy to the game of basketball. And we can do it with a lot of different factors and different ways of endorsement and marketing.
So it was a great opportunity for us. Man, I guess there's still time for Zion to prove Michael Jordan right. But Michael Jordan always hasn't been the greatest evaluator of talent, okay? Hi, Kwame Brown. Hey, how about this in 2021, the Guardians?
They had a new name, No Longer the Indians. Listen to News 5 Cleveland tell you about it. Guardians, baby. Yeah. It's the end of an era, an era that has spanned more than 100 years.
And that's a long time to have that name.
So it's gonna be hard for the fans in the city. You know, they'll always be called the Indians, you know, in everybody's heart. In the heart behind the franchise is the diehard fans. But some of those fans tell me they're heartbroken. It's something that people believe in.
People love the Indians. They came for the Cleveland Indians. They love it. It's tribe town. I just think it's just wrong that they changed it.
But while the Cleveland Indians have a long history in the land, the Guardians of Traffic have been keeping watch over the Hope Memorial Bridge right next to Progressive Field for almost as long. Yeah, well, we heard from the president. He's like, hey, change the name back. We also heard from the Guardians, they're just like, We're still going forward, we'll still be the guardians. And that's something.
for the future. And there you have it, folks. There's a few things. that took place this day in sports History. Speaking of history, this show is now history.
