Great to have you guys with us. Mark Ryan here, in for JR on JR Sports Brief. I'll rolling on until 10 p.m. Eastern Time, 7 p.m. Pacific Time.
So something that has taken place that is in pop culture, because I just watched it this week, the Netflix special called Quarterback. Which features a behind-the-scenes look on the seasons and lives of Jared Goff, the Detroit Lions, Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals, Kirk Cousins, the Atlanta Falcons, and in that special. Jared Goff is found to be saying that he feels like the Los Angeles Rams lacked maturity. that they had no conversation with him before they traded him.
Now you've heard Ryan Botcher say I agree with Jared Goff. You've heard me, Mark Ryan. Say, I agree with Jared Goff, despite the fact that that's just not how society works. Your employer asks you for two weeks' notice. They give you no notice.
They fire you, and they can excuse that by saying, well, you get a severance.
Well, the severance does me little good if I'm panicked the entire time because it's about to go away.
So do you agree with Jared Goff? Like, did the Rams Los Angeles Rams show a lack of maturity by having any conversation with him whatsoever before they traded him to Detroit? What do you say? 8 at 8-710-4ISN. That number again is 8 at 8-710-4476.
We go to Larry in Naples, Florida. Who is up next on the show? Larry, I have an uncle. Who lives there, man? What's good?
How are you? You know, Mark, I've talked to you often for the past few years, and we always argue what's more popular, baseball or college football. And it's nice to hear you coming around for baseball. And this summer, I'm living my dream. I am broadcasting the Duluth Huskies baseball team Radio up in Duluth, Minnesota.
So I'm really enjoying that. We're on our week this week. Yes, I'm loving it. I've always wanted to do I've been a hockey announcer for 40 years, and I'm finally getting to do play-by-play radio in baseball. But we're on our own this week.
And we're on our all-star break this week, and that's why I'm home. I'm going back tomorrow. But you know, you brought up the radio business, how dirty that is. You know, when you get fired, we've all been fired. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, Larry, Larry, Larry, no, no, no, time out, time out, time out.
It's not the radio business. It's every business. It's every business. I know, I know that. You know, Louisiana.
Yeah, so it's not. Radio. Look at the big thing that's just happened in radio with Cody Decker and Michelle Beadle. Forgetting fires unceremoniously for Stephen A. Smith.
That was a big controversy. We also had a network this week canceling three of its five shows. Without warning. Canceling them. Yeah.
Canceling three of their five shows.
So the question to you, Larry, is this. Do employers, including Jared Goff in the NFL, Your employer, my employer. Do they owe us a heads up that the axe is coming? Yes or no? Mm-hmm.
I would say smart. I wish I wish. I always like when you're on, I always call you when you're on.
Well, I appreciate that. Why is it a yes? Why do they owe you that?
Well, I think it's just out of loyalty and respect. We're people, you know. You're an employer, I'm an employee. You know, I've been there, I've put in my time, we have good communication, we have Yeah. Camaraderies and some Way.
That you say, hey, we're going. in a different direction. Thanks.
So we're moving on. That's all I take. Shake my hand and show me the door. That's all I ask. Yeah, you know, it's funny, Larry.
That's all that I ask. You know, I understand. You know, that that that's it, but but you know, very few companies do that these days, man. You know, and it's it's um Yeah, it's getting worse for sure. Larry, congratulations on all the blessings coming your way, my friend.
You've earned them. I do remember you. And you, hey, you've earned it too getting that job in Detroit a couple years ago. That's outstanding. Thank you, Larry.
I appreciate it very much. Thanks for the call. The number for you guys is 888-710-4ISN. That number, again, is 888-710-4476, is where you can get to us on the show. You know, like it is a sports conversation, and I'm thinking about this, and I'm watching Jared Goff, and I'm saying, you know, if we can get this audio clip one more time, Ryan, you know, he's saying, well, the Los Angeles Rams.
did not show any maturity by having a conversation with him. When Jared Goff had done great things. for that organization. Great things for that organization. Um We couldn't even offer him the courtesy of having a conversation with him.
that, you know what, man, we are looking at the pot the potential. of replacing you. Couldn't even do that with him or for him. Here is Jared Guff. I think for me ultimately it was the fact that there wasn't a conversation had and that there wasn't like a Hey, we're thinking about moving on, type of thing.
There was nothing. You know, you wish that it wasn't such a blind side, and you wish that there was some sort of. Um Maturity, I guess, to have that conversation and to be able to. Let me know what's going on and how things went down and why this is happening. The words of one Jared Goff: hey, this portion of the show is brought to you by O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Think O'Reilly Auto Parts for all your car care needs, get guaranteed low prices, and excellent customer service from the professional parts people at O'Reilly Auto Parts. You know, it's weird because people can say, Well, you know, if your team doesn't draft a player, like the entirety of the NFL can say, Well, it's not just us that passed up on Lamar Jackson, 31 other teams did before the Baltimore Ravens took him. And that's a way of fans excusing their team. And I always say, I don't care what the other teams are doing. I care what our team is doing.
That's like that's the only one that matters to me and if my team screwed it up That's the only one I care about You can certainly say, well, Mark Ryan, every company throughout America, if you're a local business owner, maybe you're a local business owner that lets somebody go today. And maybe you did it without offering any sort of heads-up whatsoever. Shame on you If you did that. You know, because Jared Goff is right. You should get some sort of heads up that You know, hey, we're looking at the possibilities right now.
Uh I mean, and that's that's a problem. I would say that's a definitive problem. Let's go to Zach in Knoxville, who is up next on the show. Zach, your take on this Jared Goff situation, he says the Rams were immature by letting him go without any forenotice. What do you say?
I don't totally disagree.
So I'm a Vikings fan, so NFC North, Jared Goff at the Lions has caused me a lot of trouble. Um Matthew Stafford has caused me a lot of heartache. Uh not that much, but enough to uh nowadays is pertinent. Um And so I kinda I kinda disagree. You know, if my employer was firing me, I'm a teacher, so I, you know.
States State government has certain rights, but Um If my employer is firing me, I would want to know. At least some time in between, you know, give me a week to clear my desk and get on with it. Um I think Jared Goff doing that is is kind of a He's in a delicate place. I don't think he has the. The wherewithal to be saying that.
I don't know if he's that important up there because. They have to be thinking they're looking for a change, but At the same time, I do agree with him. I'll hang up, let me know what you think. No, Zach, I appreciate the call, man. Thank you for bringing us up.
And yeah, I mean, that is how I feel, that is what I believe. That, you know, just despite the fact that no one does it that way, realize and acknowledge the hypocrisy. that is behind the fact that employers The employer of my wife, told her that she needed to give a four-week notice. whereas if they were to terminate her, she would have no notice. What is that about?
You know, the old-time saying is: what's good for the goose is good for the gander, man. Do not ask something you're not willing to give yourself. What you get is what you give.
So yeah. I subscribe to what Jared Goff is saying and what he has said. I fully and wholeheartedly subscribe to that. And I wish things were different. And I think that the Los Angeles Rams You know, essentially they They started up a pretty heated affair between themselves and Matthew Stafford in the Bahamas when the Staffords were on vacation.
And they. Essentially cheated on Jared Goff under the Cloud of Darkness. and then gave him no notice whatsoever. Other than to say Jared, we're breaking up with you. We are now with somebody else.
And then Jared Goff finds out about it on social media five minutes later. Shame on the Los Angeles Rams, man. Shame on them. Your take on this is welcome at 888-710-4ISN. That number, again, is 888-710-4476 is where you can get to us on the show.
Also, invite you to get to us on X or Twitter at INF SportsNet. You can get to me on X or Twitter at Mark Ryan on Air. That is at M-A-R-C-Ryan on Air. Facebook.com slash INF SportsNet and listen live on InfinitySportsNet.com. You will see, if you message me during the show, we will get to your messages, your tweets, your Facebook posts, live and on the air.
The other thing. I wanted to get to here is simply this. Yeah. You know, um. College football.
was one of my first loves in sports. And um I am deeply pained. by what is going on in the sport. Yeah. used to be that you could build a program in college football.
Well, we live in a very different world today than the one we lived in a few years ago. You cannot build a program anymore because everyone is always going to the highest bidder.
Okay. And God forbid you're a fan of a school like Marshall. God forbid you're a fan of a school like Vanderbilt. Where if you have a star player It is a 100% certainty. That player is going to enter the transfer portal and try to go to the highest bidder.
That's become the smart business decision of what to do. But I want to show you and I want to highlight for you exactly where college football has been. Before I get to the question at hand. If I were to ask you guys. What is the second most popular sport in the United States of America today?
What would you say? Like how would you respond to that? What is the second most popular sport in America today? Ryan Botcher, what do you say? Like if you hadn't heard Ryan the primer for this topic.
What would you say is the second most popular sport in America? Probably the NBA. NBA The NBA Finals averages 10.2 million viewers. That would place the NBA. Fourth.
in popularity. Major League Baseball's World Series. averages 11.9 million viewers. That places the World Series third. in popularity.
If you add up the popularity of the NBA Finals, 10.2 million, and the World Series. What you get is twenty two point one million people watching both of those combined. That is the exact same number of people that watch the national championship game Between Uh Notre Dame. and Ohio State. This year.
The college football playoff has exactly The number of viewers as the NBA Finals and the World Series put together. And they have that right now. College football right now today for all to see and know. is officially The second most popular sport in America. And it's part of the extension of football.
I mean, you and I both know that football has completely taken over our conscience, our subconscience, and everything in between. But I am beginning to wonder. as somebody who In his adolescence, he fell in love with college football. I'm beginning to wonder if college football's place. In the country in our country, in terms of sports, is it threatened right now?
You know, like is is its place threatened? Because it is a clear number two. Look, the NFL is so far and away number one. that they might as well say the NFL is number one, number two, number three, number four, number five. But ranking things one through five, college football is very clearly number two.
And I'd like to ask you this question. At 888-710-4ISN. That number again is 888-710-4476. Will college football still be number two? By the year 2030.
We're in 2025 right now. If we fast forward five years, I mean, they've got one hell of a head start, right? I mean that they're They equal The NBA Finals and the World Series together. But they are losing fans left and right with all of the BS that is associated with their sport. Will they ho hold on to their place at number two?
Or will they fall by the wayside? We ask you guys that question next. 888-710-4ISN. That number again is 888-710-4476. My name is Mark Rye, and I am in.
for JR's Sports Brief right here on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Mark Ryan, in for JR. Here on the Infinity Sports Network. Rolling on until 10 p.m.
Eastern Time, 7 p.m. Pacific Time.
Awesome to have you guys with us. This portion of the show is brought to you by Wesley Financial. Stuck in a timeshare and want out. Contact Wesley Financial Group now and get a free timeshare information kit at WesleyFinancial Group.com. We have asked you guys openly and honestly if Jared Goff was wronged.
If you have seen the Netflix special quarterback, it is available internationally and within this country. Behind the scenes, look at the seasons of Jared Goff, Joe Burrow, Kirk Cousins. Jared Goff says he feels like there was a lack of maturity. on the Los Angeles Rams part to let him know that He was about to be Blaid off Traded, axed, sent to exile island. And it got me thinking: you know, do our employers Owe us some sort of explanation.
before we get the pink slip. You know, what do you think? I don't think that happens in 95% of cases. But I think it should happen. You know, like I think Jared Goff just wanted a little Jared.
Uh we appreciate what you've done. We need you to know that as is the case with every position on our team, We are, we remain in relentless pursuit of improving every position. We have had conversations about you. and about your future here, and we will keep you apprised at how everything develops. That's all that Jared Goff would have wanted.
He didn't get it. Instead, He had the Los Angeles Rams meeting with Matthew Stafford secretly in the Bahamas, coming to an agreement with him. calling him and then posting it to Twitter five minutes later. What's that about, man? Let's go to Daniel in the gorgeous state of Hawaii.
Who joins us next on the show? Daniel, bring us to, I always say, Daniel, whenever I do a live show on location, I always want to bring my audience there. Can you bring us to Hawaii right now, Daniel? What are you seeing? What does it look like?
What does it feel like in the beautiful American state of Hawaii? Go right ahead. I know what you I know, but I got sorry for the money. Am I going in here back in? Daniel's apparently going back in.
He's got something serious going on in his life. No, I didn't get the spray. Very, very serious.
Okay, Daniel, we missed you, buddy. We missed you. Dan Daniel's having uh an all different kind of conversation. You know, he has upset the lady. As far as I'm concerned.
Let's get to Charles, who is up next. We'll see if he's in charge from Arkansas here on the Infinity Sports Network. Hey, Charles, you're in on JR's Sports Brief. Mark Ryan sitting in. What's good, man?
Well, Mark, I just want to thank you for I enjoy you. I l enjoy listening to you, and I was surprised to see you in there for JR. And I I'm from Detroit originally, so I always called JR in the beginning of the Rise of Our Lions, and he would say, well, and he was very nice. He said I'd have to kind of see it basically. Before I can believe it.
And that's how it is With what we're experiencing right now, I thank the Rams and McVeigh what they did because they're. one man's trash, another man's treasure, because they treat it him wrong. They did. They could at least give him a heads up, like you said. I agree.
But you know what? Jarek Goff took that, it gave it a chip on the shoulder and became even better. And I'm telling you, this year I'm excited because there's no hype. We're we're supposed to t I heard somebody say that they were bashing you for a take you had on ninety seven one a ticket about how we might take a step back. I think that's the kind of sobering analysis we need instead of being all hyped up and and living in fantasy world and delusional.
You know what, Charles? I will tell you this, Charles. My belief is that the Detroit Lions are actually not a Super Bowl contender this year.
Now, I would love nothing more than to be wrong. I am not going to be screaming from the mountaintops if I'm right. But it's not about the schedule, it's just about all the changes that they've had, man. They don't have Ben Johnson anymore, they lost their defensive coordinator. They have a brand new offensive coordinator who's never been a coordinator.
They lost two starters on the offensive line. Their best defensive player has two broken bones in his legs that he's trying to recover from. That combined with the most difficult road schedule in the history of the NFL, I think that's too much for one team to overcome in the next season.
Now, 2026, watch out. 2025, I think, is a little bit of a transition year for the Detroit Lions. But that said, Jared Goff. is one of the things you have an answer to. You have a top ten quarterback.
You have a quarterback who is good enough to win you the Super Bowl. And I think the sooner people acknowledge that, the better. Congratulations to the Rams. You traded for Matthew Stafford, you won the Super Bowl. That's what you set out to do.
But Jared Goff is a much better player than anyone thought the Detroit Lions were getting in that deal. Yes, I agree. And here's the thing I will say.
Now we're going to finally see What Jared Goff is really made of because they kept giving a lot more credit to Ben Johnson than he deserved. And he deserved a lot. He's a genius. But he wasn't the only one that orchestrated that offense. And he wasn't they forget that it was Consulting daily with Jared Goff, the man who's gonna call the plays and execute the plays on the field.
You know, X's and O's only can go so far. What is it what is it saying? Give me the Jimmies and Joes, they'll beat the X's and O's. You got that right. David, good to talk to you, man.
And thank you so much for listening to me both locally and nationally, man. That means so much. I hear we have Dan in Hawaii, who is back now on the line.
Now, Dan, I hope you have settled whatever dispute you were having with that woman in the background. And I said to you, Dan, can you bring all of us to Hawaii? What does it look like? What does it sound like? What does it feel like in Hawaii right now?
Dan, you're on JR Sports Brief. Mark Ryan sitting in. Go right ahead. Hello. Could you hear me?
Go right ahead. It's not like Hawaii is not like what you just heard.
Okay. Okay. Thank you.
Well, I'll give you one thing. I got avocados right here. I can see in my backyard, I got like three bundles or three bunches of. Banana is getting ready to go. uh come out come out down.
Got oxygen over here, got aircraft uh grapefruit over there. all over the place.
So I'm uh not not uh Doing too bad on uh vegetables and fruit.
So it's great over here, obviously. It's never gotten below sixty where I live, and it's never got over eighty five where I live. David, I liked you when you called. I officially am s way too jealous to ever have. Fuzzies for you ever again.
Okay? I am in the land of three months of warmth and nine months of death. All right, here in Michigan. No, wait. No, I used to live in North Dakota.
For about a year. God bless you for a winter.
Well, you have earned that. You have earned that. May we all retire in Hawaii. I had a choice to say stay in North Dakota, 50 below zero, or come to Hawaii. That was a lot to contemplate.
But whatever. Let me just. I can't really figure out how you ever got to Hawaii on that one, man. That's a really tough call, man. That's like deciding between Michael Jordan or Sam Bowie.
How did you ever come up with that decision? Go right ahead, bud. What do you want to get to on Jared Guy? No, it wasn't really about it was kind of more about your Okay. Yeah.
You know, they should give you a week's notice if you know, if you have to give a week's notice.
Well, uh, you you've heard of at will state, I think it's called work state or at work state or something like that. Sure. And they've I've done it they've done it to me. I work security. I'll never work security again, but that's beside the point.
They could walk up to you, give you a phone call. They got my boss was in Maryland. Give me a call. Turn into batch, turn into keys. Do this, do that, do this, do that.
And see, have a nice life. And don't even say anything to you. Don't tell you why. Don't you can't dispute it. You you can't.
Wait, wait, wait. These same people ask you for two weeks' notice, four weeks' notice. What's that about? Oh, they don't even ask you for. What you think.
Or what happened? Right. I had a lady. Long story. I was working Walmart security.
This is why I won't work it. Myself and my partner, Female. the lady went to the store and said, They call me this, they call me a B word, they call me this, they did this, they did that. Uh no we didn't. And the next hour or two or three hours, whatever it was.
See the door. And so you you think about going to court and you s you know, you're supposed to be guilty until you're you know, you're proven innocent until you're guilty.
Well that doesn't work in an at-will state. Whatever. or at work state, whatever they call it. They literally could say, bye adios, and take care. And don't worry about it.
Listen, I'm part of the employee. Empowerment movement. You do not get to ask us for a two weeks' notice if you can access us with no notice whatsoever. And the fact that you're giving us a severance doesn't do anything for that. Jared Goff is right, Dan.
He's right. He deserves for taking that team to the Super Bowl. He deserved better than.
Somebody essentially cheating on him. Right. That's my what I'm saying. We di most people don't even get a seven's pay. Especially in the at-will or whatever you call state.
They just say, Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I hear what you're saying. Dan, thank you very much for the phone call, man. Enjoy the beauty that is Hawaii and your avocados and your bananas and your apples. Dan, please get me served up a banana split right about now.
I could use it. Let's get to David in Dallas, who is up next. Hey, David, good to talk to you. You're on the Infinity Sports Network. What's good, David?
Hey, Mark. First of all, I live in Hawaii. totally overrated. If you live in Florida, it's about the same difference. My dad was military My wife was in the Air Force.
Sorry, I've been all over the country. Hawaii is overrated if you live there. Um second of all. Why? I do.
Why is it overrated? Wait, wait, wait, why? First of all, you don't really have the seasons. That's one thing. I'm a guy.
I like my seasons. I like Yeah, I got to tell you. I got to tell you. I'm in Michigan. I got to tell you, David, I'm a Florida boy in Michigan.
I can do without the season of winter. I just got to keep it a buck. I don't really need it. And it lasts when it begins. You know how long it lasts, David?
The rest of my life. It lasts the rest of my life when that thing starts.
So, I got to tell you, I kind of feel like the seasons are a little overrated. Fall isn't overrated. Spring isn't overrated. Summer certainly isn't overrated. Winter, kind of.
kind of overrated. They should just change the name of winner to death. or six feet under. That's how I best describe my experience here in Detroit during the winter. It is a miracle I am still here talking to you.
Please continue.
Okay, and I understand. My my grandmother used to live in South Bend, Indiana.
So I totally understand we come out with the winters. as compared to a winter in Dallas.
However, with the with the Rams and and McVay and all that, I'm going to tell you, first of all, I actually think that the Lions won. because of the relevancy and the respect that, that move brought them, you know, it's almost in some ways like a way more successful version of the Herschel Walker trade. You know, imagine if the Pirates were trading Paul Stevens to the Dodgers for six All Stars. And this is. Yeah, David, David, David, time out, time out.
Let's you and me talk back and forth here. Um, That Lions cannot have won it. And I've shared this with people here in Detroit, and they throw sharp, pointy objects at me when I do. They cannot have won the trade because the Rams won the Super Bowl. If they want to be even with the trade, they've got to win a Super Bowl.
The Rams did exactly what they wanted to do by making that trade. The the Lions have not won a Super Bowl yet. You can't say the Lions won the trade. But they have relevancy like they've never had before. They've had success like they've never had before.
And it was engineered by that trait. That trade, Brad Holmes, Dan Campbell, engineered by all of the above. Yeah, I mean, that's true. That's true.
So, but we can agree that we can agree, right, that Jared Goff. Deserved?
some sort of heads up that he was about to be axed? No? Yeah. Oh, absolutely. And like the guy was just saying before me, The half-wheel work state stuff.
It's garbage. What really sucks though is if you have a professional license of some sort, you're still under that half-wheel work stuff. And they can just come up and say, tomorrow, Mark, I don't like your haircut, you're fired. Or you're fired. I I don't have to give you a reason why.
You want to leave though, you leave without that notice. If you have some kind of professional license, you're in healthcare or any kind of professional career. Thank you.
Take your license to end your career for leaving without. Giving them the The two are in my case, in my field, A thirty-day notice.
Well, David in Dallas, I don't like my haircut right now, so I might as well fire myself. All right? But I appreciate you so much. Thank you very much for the call. Coming your way next, it's the unbelievable.
Money mistake. NFL teams continue to make What are they doing? That's next. My name is Mark Ryan. Great to have you guys with us.
Now it's time for a sports update with Rich Ackerman. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Great to have you guys with us. Mark Ryan here in. For JR Sports Brief here on the Infinity Sports Network, rolling on until.
10 p.m. Eastern Time, 7 p.m. Pacific. It is awesome to be here with you guys today and appreciate you guys making us part of your evening. Along the way, we've got Jason Lockhan Fora, our Odyssey NFL Insider, joining us next.
How should we measure success for Aaron Rodgers this coming season? And How did we get here with NFL player salaries? The salaries right now are patently absurd. That, my friends, is coming your way at the top of the hour. In the meantime, we've been having a conversation about.
Jared Goff and the Netflix Series quarterback, and Jared Goff is bent that the Rams, when they traded him, didn't give him any sort of heads up after he took them to the Super Bowl. I think he has a beef. Do you?
Some people said no, with the money they make, that's now how it works in the real world. They're right. It doesn't work that way in the real world, but it should. Why is it that your employer can ask two weeks' notice of you and they give you no such courtesy? What's up with that?
888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4-476. Along the way, Jared Goff. essentially says that Sean McVay is immature. We have the clip that we will play for you here momentarily.
Elvis in Alabama is coming your way next. Elvis, love the name, love the state. You're on the Infinity Sports Network JR Sports Brief. What's good, man?
What's going on, Mark? Hey, listen, dude. I don't know. For my for me, yo, if I had a vote, You are a huge upgrade in this time slot, so I really enjoy listening to you.
Alright, let's go with your golf. The deal is this. See, I didn't hear anybody say this earlier. I kinda jumped on it a little bit late, but Yeah. The financial circumstances.
Of Jared Goff and anyone in his position changes the entire equation. If he was a single parent with two kids and a broke down car and working two jobs and Yeah, I mean, you you'd need to show him some consideration and uh Before it ever got to, hey, you're fired, you need to have a conversation. Hey man, you know, you really need to improve.
Well, we're gonna have to start. Thinking about changing your situation. But And Jared Goff was making eight figures, dude, and they didn't kick him to the curb. You didn't have to go start working at Jick Foulay. I mean Into another organization.
Well, wait a minute, Elvis, Elvis, wait a minute, wait a minute. Wait a minute here, man. There are some things money can't buy. Um being in behaving in an honorable way. Treating another person with s with respect.
Those are things that money can't buy, Elvis. Why doesn't Jeremy Goff, despite the money, why doesn't despite the money made, why doesn't he receive the same courtesy?
Well, you didn't quite let me finish and maybe this will get to that. I was going to say that If they want to do it, that's fine. That's great, they're gonna want to know. But they are not required to do that. It's not required.
If they want to do it, fine. If they don't, well, you got butt hurt.
Okay, I'm sorry, man. Stop crying about it. You still make thirty or forty or whatever it is you make. And you know Stop crying about it. That's that's that's my take, man.
Enjoy here, okay? I'm out. No, no, Elvis, I appreciate hearing you too. And, you know, we've gotten into this weird place in society where it's like when you disagree with somebody, it's like it feels like somebody's about to say something about somebody's mama. Elvis, I, you know, I appreciate your words about enjoying what you hear on the show.
I think JR Sports Brief does a fantastic job as well. And you disagree with me on this. You know, certainly, if you are disrespected and you're making eight figures, that has a way of blunting. your feeling of anger. Um but the same holds true that we all want to be treated with respect regardless as to how many zeros are on our paycheck.
Let's get to Lee in Cincinnati, who is up next on the show. Lee, good to talk to you, my friend. You're on the Infinity Sports Network. Mark Ryan sitting in for JR Sports Brief. And Mark, I have to tell you, I have to totally 100% agree with the previous caller.
About the fact that I really appreciate you in this time slot, also, because I know that. You are a Florida Gator fan?
So let me just throw that out there as well.
So that shows you you have impectable taste. I mean as of right now we do Well, well, I'll I won't say being a Forty Gator fan, I'd love J.R., but he obiscerates and ridicules and demeans me for being a Gator fan.
So but that's okay. But I'm moving back to Florida from Cincinnati. as we speak.
So but anyhow, Um But that's the way I feel Gary Goff. Was he done wrong? Yes, he was. But there again, like the previous caller just said. But the amount of money that he's making.
And the mom. It's one of those things where in professional sport You can be let go immediately. They don't have to give you a severance package, severance pay, or a severance reason because. But the money that you have. And I don't think it's right by any stretch of the imagination, but they probably look at it like, okay, you've made this money.
You're set for life, you're good to go, you can deal with it. And that's just how it is. And it's not right, but like I said, it's not the way you treat human beings. But unfortunately, it is the way that it is. Especially in professional sport.
That's what you say. Yeah, Lee, I agree that it is the way that it is, but we should look at changing the way we do things. There are a number of things, a number of traditions that we had dating back in our nation's history hundreds of years that we looked back on and said, I can't believe we as a nation ever did this. There's a thing called common courtesy. And, you know, the fact that.
Employers now get rid of you. As they did with Jared Goff, without even having a conversation with you, furthers an awful part of our society where people talk behind everyone's back. And, like, I don't know about you, Lee. I don't know about you, Lee. I don't associate with those kinds of people.
If I know, this is the okay, Lee, I got to bring you into this, man. Um There are people. You know, at many places that I've worked. Where, like, when they're talking to you, They're talking badly about other people you work with together. And whenever they talk to me, Lee, I'm like, are these people too dumb to realize?
that if they're talking bad about other people to me, that I'm aware of the fact that when I'm not around they're talking about about me to them. How are we not aware of that?
So the fact that you you we are not forthcoming, we are not honest, Jared Goff is not brought into the fact that he they're talking they're wanting to trade him, this is all part of the same awful character trait that has got us into being backstabbing people. I hate that, Lee. No, you are absolutely correct, and the sad part is what you just said. How are they not aware of it? They are aware of it.
They do know that you realize. That they're talking about you behind your back when you're not around, they don't care, and that's the difference. That is what our society, unfortunately, has become an all-for-me. And to heck with everybody else. attitude and that's not how it always was.
I think we are starting to work somewhat to get back to the way that we used to be. But it's going to take a long time simply because Everybody's focused on in this society's problem. you know, it focuses more on themselves than the overall picture. And like I said, doing for others as you would have them do unto you, no, that's gone out the window. Do for myself, let everybody else pay the price.
Unfortunately, that is what we've come to. And that this is just proof positive of it. It is not rough. What'd you want to get to on the Gators? Lee.
Oh, I want to ask you all right, well, thank you so much. I want to ask you about the Gators. DJ Lagway, do you think he's going to make a difference for them? Enough of a difference for the kind of possibility about the playoffs. As a matter of fact, among all the teams in the SEC, and the Florida Gators were mocked to finish sixth in the SEC this year, I got to tell you, I think they're underrated.
I think the Gators have every chance to be a contender this year in the Southeastern Conference. I mean, Lee, they have your team, they have my team right now, the Florida Gators, behind the South Carolina Gamecocks. There should never be a year Where we are forecasted to be beneath the Gamecocks. Give me a break. At last check, we are still the Florida Gators.
They are still the Gamecocks, and they're going to have to digest that. I would pick Florida six days a week and twice on Sunday against the Gamecocks on a neutral field. Our talent versus their talent. I think DJ Lagaway is the real deal. They have struck gold in the sense that you have a five-star quarterback who reps the brand and reps the school, reps the university, wants to be there.
I think that's a beautiful marriage. I will say that Billy Napier is under some fire here now. Like, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could not be the Gators coach heading into 2026. He's got to produce. But I love what he's building.
I do think the Gators will perform this year. I see eight and four at worst. 10 and 2 at best. with a possible playoff berth on the line league. What do you say?
I think that everything you just you actually answered questions that I was going to ask you while you were talking about, wow, he's reading my mind. He knows exactly what I'm thinking and what I want to find out. But that very last thing that you said, possibility of 10 and 2, I've said that, and I have, once again, there are other hosts who have told me that I was as crazy as I could ever be to even think the possibility might happen.
Now, I'm not gonna call out Jay Hart or anything, but now I understand. I love JR. He's a fantastic host. He does not. let anything slide.
But he um he is not as How should I say? He does not believe like we do about the Florida Gated, which is his. Lee, I appreciate the call, man. Thank you so much for giving us a call today. And thank you for chiming in.
