Abdul Carter's decision to wear Lawrence Taylor's number 56 for the New York Giants sparks debate about the significance of retired numbers in sports, the impact of social media on athlete expectations, and the importance of respecting sports legacy.

It is the JR Sport Brief show on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta Georgia. Thank you for tuning in wherever you might be.

My people on the East Coast, West Coast, down South, Midwest, every part of the country, every nook and cranny. Maybe you're on a lake, maybe you're looking at an ocean, maybe you're in a kitchen. I don't know what the hell you're doing. Thank you for being here. Looking at the roadway, maybe there's a dumb ass driver behind you or in front of you, to the side of you. Just be safe either way people, okay. I'll be with you for the next two hours.

This show gets started every weekday at 6 p.m Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. I look out my window and there are no people. I just, well, I see people. I see people. I see cars.

I see buildings because I'm in the sky. You could be in New York right now with our producer Nick Theodora. Yeah, we got so much to get into.

We've done a lot already. The show gets started every weekday, 6 p.m Eastern, 3 Pacific. How can you listen?

The free Odyssey app, A-U-D-A-C-Y. You can tune in on your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate. If you got Sirius XM and Channel 375.

If you got a smart speaker, ask the speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. We have gone through a ton. We talked about Draymond Green ticked off last night. He says he's not an angry black man. He may just be angry, but then he's also black.

But don't put the two together. Steph Curry is gone until game six. We have Omar Khan, the GM of the Steelers, explaining why they got rid of Pickens. Well, just saying that got rid of him officially.

We knew that. We talked about Pat Riley. We heard from Pat Riley. Says, man, I'm not apologizing for not giving Jimmy Butler a contract. You don't know why that.

Pay him. Bill Belichick, girlfriend is in the news. Is she allowed at the facility? Is she not? Who knows? Chidor Sanders worked out today at rookie camp.

Good for him. And then we got a basketball game that is currently underway. Just getting started. We have the Indiana Pacers taking on the Cleveland on the Cleveland Cavaliers right now at this second is about six and a half minutes to go in the first quarter. The Cleveland Cavaliers lead the Pacers 19 to eight.

The Pacers have a 2 0 series lead thanks to Tyrese Halliburton's big three game winning three and all of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Their starters are back. Evan Mobley is back.

Garland is back. He was out for a couple of weeks with that sprained toe. And then DeAndre Hunter, he hasn't entered into the game as of yet, but he's returning as well from his sprained thumb. Donovan Mitchell continues his hot streak. He had 48 points in that last game, unfortunately for him, and ended up as a loss.

He's already hot here with six points. And Max Struce, who showed up bombs away, hitting those threes early, and a loss. Max Struce also eight points here for the Cavaliers. Tyrese Halliburton, I guess, is going to take him time to warm up, not until the end.

He has zero points. Miles Turner has all of the Pacers points, and Cleveland now leads 20 to eight. We'll keep you up to date with this game as it continues to roll on. We got another game that's going to kick off in about two hours between Nikola Jokic's squad, the Nuggets, and then Shay Gilgas Alexander's squad, the Thunder. And so those are our two basketball games tonight.

A matter of fact, that game, that series, I should say, is actually taught. Because in game one, we saw Aaron Gordon knock down a three pointer to basically win the game for the Nuggets, who kind of shocked everybody by beating the Thunder. And then in the last game, this was nothing but a beat down from start to finish, 149 to 106. The Thunder beat the Nuggets.

Shay Gilgas Alexander, he had 34 points. I mean, at halftime, the Thunder had 87 points. It was 87 to 56 at halftime. Now you tell me if that's a basketball game worth watching.

The answer is hell no, it's not worth watching. 87 points is the most points scored ever in a playoff game in the first half. Yet not a good look. Head coach Mark Dagnault, he runs the Thunder. He's looking at Shay Gilgas, dropped 34 points and 33 points. He basically said, whether we win, whether we lose, we know how to move forward. We know how to be focused.

I hope he is. We don't really respond to the last game. You know, when we win, we don't have more confidence. When we lose, we don't have more urgency. I think this team has a really good baseline that we just try to return to every day when the sun comes up and we have a game.

When the sun comes, how, how prophetic he is or how poetic I should say. Every day when the sun comes up and we have a game, we start from scratch. It doesn't matter what happened in the last game. First game, disappointing loss. They're put down with a game winning three.

Okay. The next game, they bounce back and this team absolutely lights up the Nuggets. They lit them up like a Christmas tree and it's, it's May. I'm going to think being up in Denver tonight, you know, there's, there's some expectations that the Nuggets will be the ones to run them out of the building. I think we have a close game tonight. And this time I think the Oklahoma City Thunder, I believe that they hold on unless Jamal Murray is going to give us one of these, I don't know, 44 plus games, point games. I don't see OKC winning this one. Or the Nuggets, excuse me, winning this one. I think ultimately Denver will win one more game. I think we'll get a six game series out of this. But I think the Thunder will run them out of the building. The new head coach of the Denver Nuggets, the son of Rick, David Adelman, he says, yeah, we're playing at home. I feel good that we're going to get things together. We'll react the right way like we did, you know, in game three in LA, bring a different intensity, look at what they did differently, and react accordingly. And I would expect a much better effort from our guys on Friday night in Denver.

Oh, man. He sounds like Nick Sirianni. He sounds like the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Some guy standing around talking about a process and we want our players to think and react and less thinking needs more reacting. David Adelman sounds like Nick Sirianni. I mean, if only he could win the championship like Nick Sirianni, if he should be so lucky. And quite different than what we would typically hear from Michael Malone. Could you imagine Michael Malone if the Denver Nuggets lost a basketball game, a 149, a 106?

It doesn't matter. It wouldn't matter if it was the postseason. It could be the regular season.

It could be the preseason. Michael Malone would have ripped his team to shreds. What a difference a coach makes, right? And I don't know if David Adelman, Michael Malone, this team, this Denver Nuggets squad, and I get it. Everybody shortens their rotations in the playoffs. Man, they just don't have enough depth of talent. They don't have enough options to go out there and win this series. OK, see, every time I turn my head, they got a new guy out there just ready to throw some shots up and keep it moving.

Wild stuff. And coaches really make a difference. We knew that already. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. We got Chris. Chris is calling from Nebraska.

Chris, you're on the JR Sportbreeze show. What's up? Hey, JR. How are you doing, man? I'm amazing. How are you feeling?

I'm fantastic. It's my birthday tomorrow. Oh, happy birthday, man. Oh, happy birthday, man. Good for you. Thanks for that. Hey, I have a take on Bill Belichick and the reason why I think he took the job in North Carolina in the first place.

OK, go ahead. I think he wants to edge out the athletic director so he can then become the athletic director slash GM and then give his son the job. I think this is a publicity stunt that he's causing to occur. So the judgment of the athletic director will be called into question and then he'll take over the job. You think Bill Belichick is that cerebral? He wants to do all this damn work, coaching the kids to just give his son a gig? Well, I mean, in a couple of years, I don't mean right away. I mean, yeah, but you think so that that might be a part of it.

Hey, I can leave and give my son the job. Right. But and that's actually built into his contract, if I remember right. Yeah, but do you? Yeah, but why the hell would he think about that?

That's like for something down the road. Who cares, right? But it's Bill Belichick, one of the smartest defensive minds in the NFL ever. Well, what is that? What does that have to do it right now? He's being taken for a ride with a 23 year old woman. Do we know that for sure? Could it be possibly another one of his things that he told that he just asked her taking the question? A grown man, a grown man that smart, who's been in the public eye, really in the public eye for the past 30 years, has really been a public figure in the United States of America for the better part of 40. But all of a sudden, as he gets a little bit more senior in life to just pop up with a 23 year old woman, I don't think that is some type of master plan.

I think not. There comes a point in time where you have built something up and you don't want to wake up and look like a jackass. And a few of those things have started to happen for Bill Belichick over the past several months.

Sure. You don't want to leave things open for interpretation. And one thing that he has never, ever done is leave things open for interpretation. It's real hard to believe that all of a sudden he would just wake up and go, you know what? Instead of leaving things open for interpretation, I'm going to hit people with the art of deception.

Unless this man fell down and hit his head, I find that hard to believe. All right. OK, well, thank you, Chris.

We're calling from Nebraska, man. Take it easy. OK, happy birthday. What you doing for your birthday? What are you doing? My son's taking me a movie and I might go golfing. A movie?

What movie are you going to go see? The Thunderbolts. Oh, is that the that's the Avengers movie? Is that what that is? Yeah.

Yeah. But I've already seen it. In fact, it's really good.

And it's one of the best ones I've seen in a while. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Why is your son taking you to go see a movie that you've already seen? Because he hasn't seen me yet and we're really big Marvel fans. Oh, so you're taking and he ain't taking you. You're taking him.

He's paying for the ticket, so technically you host him. OK, you take what you can get. You're going to eat after you just said golf, huh? Well, I want to go off in the morning because it'll be much cooler here right now at 85. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. All right.

That sounds like a good birthday, Chris. You enjoy it. OK, have a beer for me. All right. Take care. I will. Thank you, Chris.

Yeah. Have two beers or three or four. It's your birthday, Nick. How many beers is a man allowed to have on his birthday?

As many as he wants. And personally, I probably want to go with beers. I think I need some a little stronger. Oh, my God.

Well, you mix it up a beer and a shot, Nick. OK, yeah, I can do that. OK, there you go. And my birthday is coming up to May 24th. Oh, happy, happy almost birthday to you. Thank you. Thank you.

Thank you. What is that on a Saturday? Two weeks?

Saturday and Memorial Day weekend. Oh, well, OK, you know, how many beers are you going to have? Something strong?

Probably too many to count and probably something a little stronger. Any plans or you just going to relax? I might go to probably go to a lounge with a couple of my friends.

I know one of the owners over there. And then OK. And then probably the day I think this Sunday I'm going to this guy named Oscar G. He's a deejay. OK. Now, I'm not a big deejay person, but so my friends want to go. You don't like deejays? You got a problem with deejays?

No, no, no. I have a problem with deejays. It's just I'm not a big like, you know, techno like club kind of guy. No, techno. Yes.

It's like techno music, mostly. Yeah. I'm not a big guy. I don't know about you. Yeah, I don't. I don't know. No, I don't. I don't.

It's nothing. No, no, sir. So it's not technically my birthday that day, but my friends want to go. So I was like, sure, I'll go. OK, well, happy almost birthday to you.

OK, thank you. That's good. Hey, is it too early? Is can the New York Knicks give you a present? Oh, I hope so. But honestly, so far, they've really impressed me up to this point. Anything past this is just gravy. If they you know, I really hope they get past the series, but, you know, as a Nick fan, you learn to have very low expectations.

So, yeah, anything they do pass this will just be great. I hope by the time we get to your birthday for you, I hope by the time we get to Memorial Day weekend, I hope that the Knicks are playing on your on your birthday weekend. I hope you get the opportunity to sit down and watch the New York Knicks.

I got to be honest. I still think the Celtics will win the series. We'll see what happens tomorrow. Obviously, tomorrow we'll have a big and a lot of bearing on what will happen with these New York Knicks. And as you know, they don't play that well at home lately.

So, yeah, I think historically doesn't have a whole lot to do with what's going on right now. But the New York Knicks, as you said, they always leave a little bit of room to disappoint. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We come back. Well, we'll talk about the Knicks. As a matter of fact, we'll get we'll get Nick's thoughts on whether or not they realistically will advance. I need you to think O'Reilly Auto Parts for all of your car care needs.

Get guaranteed low prices and excellent customer service from the professional parts people at O'Reilly Auto Parts. We'll take that break. We'll talk more Knicks. And then speaking of New York, this stupid jersey selection. I've never heard of an NFL player who's yet to take a snap in the NFL have so much of a debate over what number he's going to wear.

But it appears that Abdul Carter from Penn State has figured it out. I'll tell you what superstar jersey's number he will not wear on the other side break. We'll give you an update on what's going on between the Pacers and the Cavs.

We got a lot to do. It's the J.R. sport reshow on the Infinity Sports Network. It is the J.R. sport reshow on the Infinity Sports Network. And we got a game in Indianapolis. They pulled up to Cleveland.

They just got underway in the second quarter. Cleveland leads thirty four to thirty two. Evan Mobley coming back from that sprained ankle. Eight points. Donovan Mitchell, eight points. Max Drews, eight points. Meanwhile, for the Pacers, Miles Turner getting a job done.

He has twelve points to lead the way for Indiana. If the Pacers win, they go up 3-0 in this series. Before we went to break, we talked about this big old matchup that we have tomorrow between the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics. The Knicks also surprisingly with an opportunity to go up 3-0 in their series. And I think the NBA would love a New York Knicks Indiana Pacers matchup in the East because Halliburton has just turned into a villain in the NBA. His own NBA players, despite being a smaller sample size, voted him as the most overrated player in the league. He ain't playing like it when he's knocking down game winning threes. We've seen Jalen Brunson, how clutch he is, eliminating the Detroit Pistons.

People would love to see it. Something new, something different, an opportunity for teams that we did not see go ahead and advance to an NBA finals. We'll see. I still feel confident that the the Boston Celtics will handle things, will handle the New York Knicks. We'll see tomorrow if the Knicks go up 3-0 series over as close to over as it could potentially be.

Nick, I know you're going to be watching. You'll be enjoying the New York Knicks, hoping that they win. Do you think they won the series still? I'm still highly skeptical, even though they're up 2-0. But like you said, if they, just because like they had two great comeback wins that are, you know, almost unprecedented. But, you know, I still think that the Boston's obviously the better team. And, you know, like I said, the Knicks haven't been playing that well at home, so we'll see what happens. Yeah, the New York Knicks, as you said, they had to overcome two 20-point deficits to come out on top. The fact that you're down 20 points in the first time is not a good thing.

But then when you actually have the heart to come back and overcome that, it shows you one thing. They're playing hard. Even when they're losing, they're not quitting. And so Boston, obviously, they have enough talent to go up 20. But the New York Knicks are certainly showcasing more heart than the Boston Celtics. Let's see if things can come together for the Celtics, who, by the way, let me tell you again, they have taken 100 three-pointers in the first two games. They've only made 25 of them. They are 25 out of 100 when it comes down to shooting threes.

That shooting percentage is crap. And if Jason Tatum wants to change some of his perception and how he's viewed, he's going to have to light it up in the garden tomorrow and maybe just maybe being on the road will be good for Jason Tatum. I don't want to say not having the pressure of everybody in Boston breathing down your neck, but there's there's no expectations for him in the garden. People be cursing at him and yelling at him and just normal born. I mean, he's not Halliburton.

He's not Reggie Millies, not Trae Young. People won't care. And you can get a little bit of a different adrenaline boost when you're on the road and you're just shutting the crowd the hell on up. When you have the crowd in a palm of your hand and you could just quiet them down. It's a it's a different rush than just being cheered.

I mean, he was just being silent. The crowd was being silenced up in Boston. Let's see what they do in New York tomorrow. I think Boston will will come out on top.

I don't know. I think about I still think Boston will win. And so I'll give them the victory tomorrow in New York City, Manhattan, Madison Square Garden, the world's most famous arena. Hey, not not too far from Madison Square Garden lies MetLife Stadium, which happens to be the home of the New York Jets and the New York Giants. The New York Giants actually play and have their headquarters right on the other side of the parking lot from the facility. And even though the NFL draft just took place.

What a miserable situation it was. This is weeks, weeks. For Abdul Carter from Penn State, who's supposed to be the next quarterback record for the big blue wrecking crew. He's supposed to be the next big thing, the next big star for the New York Giants.

The first damn day he was drafted, this man is standing around. Just vocally make just using his words, using his mouth and telling everybody I want to wear Lawrence Taylor's number. I want to wear number 56. I want to wear this number. And I want to follow in the footsteps of one of the greatest defensive players, maybe arguably the greatest defensive player of all time. Why?

Why not start your own legacy like this is this is the pros. Leave Lawrence Taylor's number alone and go find one of yours. It's as simple as that. But no, he didn't do that. He sat down with a fellow Penn State guy and Michael Parsons and Abdul Carter. He was just like, yeah, give me, give me LT's number. Remember this?

First of all, I had to make this clear. You ain't, you're going to get that 11, right? I don't know, but I got a different number in mind. Oh, I'm heartbroken already.

I told you he's going to get that. I said we better have the best swap in the history of football. What number are you thinking, bro?

All those 56 sound real good. Lawrence Taylor said no. Lawrence Taylor said, hey, man, go find your own number.

Leave mine alone. He didn't say it like that, but he said no. And then he went to number 11. Yeah, the quarterback record number from Penn State, wear number 11. You know, number 11 is retired in New York for Phil Simms. Phil Simms, the quarterback, said that he was getting ready to give him the number. And then his family told Phil Simms, no, what are you doing, dad?

No. Like, you don't want to share that. That's you. That's your legacy with the New York Giants. Why do you want to share that with a guy who, whether he lives up to it or not, why do you want to bother? Phil Simms says he was vetoed in his own house.

And so, poor, poor. Abdul Carter. He has to think about his own number. What number is he going to wear? Well, apparently he's made a decision. Abdul Carter says his new number is this. How does 51 feel? Oh, I feel good.

I feel like it's going to have to grow on me a little bit, but it's feeling good right now. How'd you settle on 51? Um, pretty much what we had available.

So it was a good number. Is it set or could you change it for the regular season? Oh, it's pretty much set. I'm just happy to be out here playing football.

That's what your mom wear. That's all I'm worried about. Thank God. Thank you.

Oh, that's all they had available. 51. Good. And he says, is it superstition?

Why they care so much? I get you won't look good in your number. Think about past rushers. Guys are wearing 90 numbers, 90 fifties, you know, linebacker, defensive lineman numbers, 50, 90. Okay, fine. Now they use a single digit.

The NFL has switched up some of the rules. Now, when it comes down to who can wear what number, if I'm playing in the NFL, you want to know what number I care about. The number, the numbers, plural in my bank account.

That's it. I don't care. I will take number zero, double zero.

I will be a zero as long as there's zeros in my bank account. Abdul Carter is going to wear number 51. That took a year and a day for him to go ahead and figure it out.

He'll be okay. I just watch these here. I sound like an old man. I'm not an old man, but these athletes, man, they're just a pain in the ass.

Yeah. Draymond Green running around saying, I don't want to be known as angry black guy. You got just Abdul Carter's wants to wear all these numbers. I just like, just go play. I guess this is what we get when we have the social media era. Everybody's so used to being a center of attention. People just get what they want.

They want to whine online and whine on the internet and see if they can just get exactly things the way that they want them. Like why, like in what world would it be like, Hey, the number is retired. Let me just go ask him if I could wear it. It's retired for a reason. So nobody ever wears it again to have the temerity and the gall to just be like, well, I want to wear Lawrence Taylor's number. Like, come on.

Could you imagine if Derrick Rose gets to the Chicago Bulls and he's just like, you know what? Forget, forget one. I don't want to wear one with three. I'm going to call up Michael Jordan and see if I can wear number 23. What are we doing? How far away are we from somebody showing up? And I know for a different reason, how far away are we from somebody showing up in major league baseball going, Hey, you know what number I want to wear? I want to wear 42.

Okay. Let's get Jackie's family on the line, right? Let's, let's call Jackie's, somebody in Jackie's family. Let's see if we can wear number 42.

I want to wear it in honor of Jackie. Come on, man. I get it. Lawrence Taylor.

Ooh. I mean, from an ethical standpoint, certainly not in the space of Jackie Robinson, but let's get over it with the numbers, huh? The numbers are tied. Go find another one. Go look at your bank account.

Okay. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. David is calling from Los Angeles. You're on the JR Sportbreeze. Show us up, David. Hey, JR. Good afternoon.

Thank you so much for taking my call. I just want to piggyback of what you're saying about, uh, you know, Abdul Carter and these numbers here, you know, I'm always fascinated by how differently teams treat their numbers, especially in the NFL, because you have some teams who retire numbers and then you have other teams that don't have any retired numbers. For example, the cowboys don't retire their numbers. In fact, they have number 88 given out to their next big receiver, whether it's Drew Pearson to Michael Irvin to Dez Bryant to now CeeDee Lamb, they're wearing 88. You know, you have the Ravens and the Raiders who also don't retire numbers. I think the Raiders have a policy of, you know, we're not going to retire a number. If you want to wear a superstar number, go ahead.

Let's see if you actually live up to the hype of that superstar, the legacy of that superstar, you know? And then of course, most teams do retire numbers. Uh, some of them probably retired too many. I mean, the bears, how many do they have, like 13 retired numbers?

I can't even count, you know? Um, so it's always fascinating to me, like how these different teams treat their numbers. Um, one thing about Abdul Carter asking for someone else's number, he's certainly not the first one to do it, probably the first rookie to do it. But I do remember Jerry Rice when he was traded Seattle for that little brief stint, he did ask Steve Larson, where 80. Yeah. Of course that's Jerry Rice.

Jerry Rice, back then, you know, he's Jerry freaking Rice, number one football player of all time. So yeah, completely Michael Parsons hasn't played. Like just shut up, show up, put on a number and go.

I mean, there's a difference. If you think about a different sport, you think about Major League Baseball. I know for instance, most teams in the New York Yankees specifically, we know the Yankees, my God, you want to talk about retired numbers. They probably have too many numbers retired.

No more single digits. Yeah. When you got guys called up to the bigs, you got guys running around number 87 and, and such, you know, Aaron Judge is wearing 99 and he just stuck with it. So to each his own, every organization, depending on this prestige and who they are, you know, they do things a little bit differently. I'm in favor of just, just having a ring of honor, you know, just call it a day. You are in our hall of fame.

We didn't retire your number, you're in a hall of fame. Just go ahead and leave it alone. But different strokes for different folks. We know, as we really do know, a lot of these owners, some of them are very different and very out there. And the precedent has been set. I don't think a team is changing it. Yeah.

Yeah. I've actually, you know, cause I'm an Eagles fan. I've actually talked about this with like other Eagles fans about how maybe it's time for the Eagles and this is an unpopular opinion to possibly unretire some numbers because you know, we're living through right now, the greatest era in Eagles history in the Superbowl era. And you know, it just seems like, yeah, it just seems like, it just seems like, you know, if we're going to retire Jason Chelsea's number 62, which is very likely to be retired, what about the other three in our core for Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Lane Johnson, when he hangs it up, what about their numbers?

Would it be not fair to just retire Jason Chelsea and not the other four? You know, if we're going to do that now, now we're getting into too many numbers. It's a, it's a, it's a good problem to have.

And thank you so much for calling from LA. It's a good problem to have. It means you're winning championships. That's I mean, typically when you have numbers that get retired, I mean, do you want to be Joe Thomas from the Browns? You want to be that lone bright spot for forever and not having won a damn thing.

In most cases, those numbers that get retired, those statues that go up in the case of statues, it's, it's guys and teams that have been together and have won championships or have won multiple championships. I mean, that's just what it is. I'd rather have that problem than not have anybody come through my organization, just a bunch of bums running around out there and nobody cares about ring of honor. Call it a day.

Keep it moving. If it's somebody is really, really worth a damn, give them a statue. Come on. All things considered whenever things are done in Kansas city. And I don't know, maybe they'll still be playing that arrowhead. Maybe they'll rip it down and move to the other side of Kansas.

Maybe they'll move to Kansas proper. I don't know. You don't, you don't think Patrick Mahomes is going to have some type of, what does that thing called the statue outside? Some ugly looking statue.

I don't know if everybody's getting ripped now, but all these statues and sports are pretty ugly. And Dwayne Wade got an ugly statue. Somebody got a statue recently that was actually good, I believe. I'm trying to think of it. Hey Nick, somebody got a statue recently, right? Didn't have somebody actually get a good one. Can't think of it off the top of my head, but I kind of remember somebody getting a decent one. Somebody got a statue.

Dwayne Wade's got his statue and everybody worried about what the hell it looked like. I'm going to think about that and come back on the other side of the break. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. Simple question. Should we keep on retiring numbers in sports or should we just have a hall of fame? This whole numbers argument is just ridiculous. You know who doesn't care about this? Loser ass teams.

They don't care. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. We'll take a break.

The phone lines are open. I'll go ahead and take a look at those. And then speaking of baseball, man, Major League Baseball is back to the Sunday morning baseball stuff. And Rafael Devers, he's back to not moving spots.

We'll get into both of those things on the other side of the break. And right before we went to break, we heard from Abdul Carter. He's just like, ah, we're number 51 for the New York Giants. Lawrence Taylor didn't let him use his number. Ultimately, Phil Simms considered it, was ready to give his number up. His family said, no, what are you doing? And so now he's going to wear number 51.

And just I don't want to say the audacity. Is it such a big deal? He asked for a number, a little bit of yes, a little bit of no. Like it's on one hand, it's just a number.

But then on the other hand, it's like, do you understand and respect the person that put it on before you? Like, go ahead and forge your own path. You just go and jump into that number. I don't know. It's 2025. Social media, this social media that everybody thinks about themselves.

Nobody thinks about to actually honor the people and why the number was retired. It just gets kind of nuts after a while. 888-710-4ISN. James is here from Oklahoma City. You're on the JR Sportbreeze show. What's up, James? Hey, James, you're live on the radio. OK, I think James got abducted by aliens. Hey, James, figure it out. I don't know what the hell James is. Maybe he's, well, no, that basketball game doesn't get started for another. Let's see. Yeah, damn it.

That game is not here for another hour. Maybe he's getting ready to see Jokic go out there and get busy against OKC. 888-710-4ISN.

That's 888-710-4ISN. Before we went to break, you know, I was trying to actually think about since we got these jerseys retired, we have these statues going up and somebody called and said, was it was it Dirk Nowitzki? No, I don't know. Didn't Dirk Nowitzki statue? His statue came before Dwyane Wade's. I just know Dwyane Wade has the worst statue of all time.

I know Cristiano Ronaldo. They made that goofy ass looking statue of him. People made jokes about Allen Iverson statue, even though it's just a small statue at their practice facility. It's not like out there for the public. I know he's not real. Well, the character is not real.

The Rockies statue in Philly is is amazing. How come that one is good? 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. I guess the aliens let James loose again. James from Oklahoma City, are you here with us on earth? Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Sorry about that. I got cut off. OK, what's up?

Nothing. I just I agreed completely with you. I believe these jerseys are, you know, a form of legacy. As a Cowboys fan, you know, I see 88 and numbers getting passed down.

Demarcus Ware and the defensive ends that came before him, guys who passed something on to the next generation. I think that maybe that's getting lost. And, you know, as a Mavs fan, heartbroken, I see that getting taken away from someone like Luca, another jersey that could have been retired in Dallas.

Well, I mean, on the bright side, nobody will ever wear, what do you wear? 77, right? Yeah. Seventy seven. It's not a common number. It's not a common number. But, you know, he's going to inspire a generation of kids in Europe and all over America to be wearing that number for years to come.

You think so? You've seen kids running around wearing 77? You've seen that?

Oh, yes, sir. You see 77 all over the place. I see people buying Slovenia jerseys. You know, you have people buying all kinds of stuff. Well, it's one thing to wear a jersey from Slovenia. I mean, I got I have I don't know if it's a Grant Hill, Isaiah Thomas.

I don't know. I went to I went to like a flea market and the guys sold jerseys and I saw a Pistons jersey and I said, oh, I can fit that. And I just bought it.

And I wear it in the summertime when it's hot outside. And I don't care about Grant. Let me be careful.

You get in trouble with the guy. He does a lot of stuff in Atlanta, but I don't care about Grant Hill. I don't I don't particularly care about Isaiah Thomas.

I just bought it. So, yeah, to have people in a Slovenia jersey is not a shock. But I mean, if we have a wave of people wearing 77, God bless them. It's not like 23. Think about that. Just the idea of Michael Jordan wearing 23 and then Kobe going, I'm going to wear 24.

And then LeBron James wearing 23 to kind of follow Michael Jordan. I'm not so sure. We'll see. Yeah, I agree. I agree.

You're not going to have guys maybe copying to that extent. But, you know, I do like the way that Dallas has done that. You have 41 with Dirk.

That's not a number that will be used a lot either. But it's going to be Dirk forever. And, you know, here's a better question. I assume you're in Oklahoma City. Are you originally from Dallas or were you just a mass fan before OKC got there? No, I've been from Dallas my whole life.

Just moved to Oklahoma City recently. OK. And I think I know the answer to this. I know you ticked off that they moved Luca. Are you are you going to are you going to go back?

Are you waiting or are you just on you know, you're you're on strike? Like what's the deal with your personal relationship with the Mavs? I mean, at this point, I guess you kind of have to see how it's everything shakes out with the relationship, because who knows what's going on, whether this came from ownership, if it was only Nico Harrison, because to me, it looked like he made a move, like he's getting ready to move on to the Lakers with another job.

You know, it looks like he's setting himself up with a with Alex Rodriguez, what he did with the Mariners to make a move to the Yankees kind of thing. So it kind of depends, depending on how the owners handle the situation and what happens in the future, what they did to Luca, I think was just wrong. So, you know, does any of that matter for you, though? I mean, does that change how you view the organization or how you spend money or don't spend money with them? Oh, definitely.

Yeah. I mean, I'm I'm someone who would have gone to games. I have gone to games in the past plenty. And I will be on a hiatus of how much money I spend with that organization as far as what they do to kind of because obviously the fans have spoken their mind.

They've been out there rioting, you know, protesting and stuff. So depending on what they do to try to reconcile with the fan base will depend on whether I come back to where I was in the past. Understood.

And just and we're up against the brakes so quickly here. Did they not raise tickets after the fact? After they traded him, they raised the tickets still, right? Exactly. It was almost like they're they're trying to stick it to the fans almost.

It felt like, you know, a knife to the heart after you got your heart broken. That's that's crazy. Hey, James, thank you so much for calling. Appreciate you, man. All right. Thank you, sir. There you go. James from Oklahoma City for a minute. We thought he got abducted by aliens, but here he is.

Thank you, James. That's crazy. I mean, I mean, the guy just bought the team from his perspective. He doesn't know a damn thing about basketball. He's like, listen, I bought the team.

I do not care who is on the team. I need to make some money. I'm a raise these ticket. We're gonna have less people coming. I'm going to raise the ticket prices. Whatever schmucks still decide to show up.

They're going to pay, OK? Dallas Maverick says now that's an idiot organization. I know Mark Cuban shaking his head just every day, just continuously shaking his head.
